Abstract:β-Lactam antibiotics residue trace detection has proved to be an important safety problem,due to its relationship of animal derived food safety and international trade.Biosensor which would rapidly and automatically detectingβ-Lactam antibiotics in convenient,has attracted more and more researchers.Based on the different biological reaction,it can be devided into three classes:enzymic,penicillin binding proteins(PBPs) and immune.Firstly,enzymic biosensor has been took into practice,but their capacities were not enough to residue detection.PBPs were a kind ofβ-Lactam antibiotics sensitive bacteria functional protein,which needs to be determined, characterized,and produced through advanced biotechnology.Comparative advantage of immunosensors was its low detection limit and systematic development.Recently,more research concerned with the immunosensors and studied on the new transducer,nano-technology and multi-residue automatically detection.New achievements and methodologies of computer, molecular biology and bioinformatics had been used to design and screen bio-recognition elements for biosensors development,as well as to investigate the biosensing process.It hopes that biosensor practicability would be improved though new biological research methods and findings.

Abstract:Adrenergic receptor agonists are a class of adrenergic transmitters analogues that can bind and stimulate adrenergic receptors, which always have been illegally used in the animal husbandry since they can promote growth, reduce fat deposition, and improve lean meat rate. Thus, detecting these agonist residues is of great significance to ensure food safety and human health. Here, we proposed a comprehensive and critical review, firstly introducing the typical adrenergic receptor agonists that occurred in animal-derived foods. Then we summarized and discussed the recent residues detection methods including immunoassays, receptor-based assays, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, and electrochemical methods. We highlighted the immunoassays due to their merits of simple operation, low cost, and high sensitivity for screening purpose. Lastly, we prospected the future development of adrenergic receptor agonist residues detection method.

Abstract:Aminoglycosides are a class of antibiotics commonly used in animal husbandry. If the antibiotics cannot be used legitimately, they would remain in animal foods and environment, even causing damage to human health. The effective detection to these residues is an important part of the protection of human health. In this review, the methodology studies about the detection of aminoglycoside residues are summarized for the related researchers to conveniently understand the progress of this field. These methodology studies involve multi-residue and single residue detection methods. The former includes high-performance liquid chromatography, liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, and capillary electrophoresis, which are about 40 % of the literature we can access to. Developing the new fluorescent probe is a possible direction for these studies. The latter is about 50 % of the amount of literature, in which most are various immunoassays. The development of highly selective antibodies or aptamers is a possible direction for these assays. Since aminoglycosides have no useful absorption, their derivatization becomes an important part of the sample pretreatment. The presentations related to derivatization are about 30 % of the listed literature, and most of the rest are the purification of the samples. The development of solid-phase extraction adsorbent material which is high selectivity to this class of antibiotics and can be used repeatedly is a possible development direction.

Abstract:<span>Aminoglycosides, as effective, broad-spectrum antibiotics, have been widely used in animal husbandry. These antibiotics can cause potential hazards to human health, as they can accumulate through the food chain. To obtain a better control of food quality and safety, developing effective and sensitive methods for the pretreatment and determination of aminoglycosides is essential. This review aims at elucidating on the health risk-toxicology of aminoglycosides in food and to provide a comprehensive overview of aminoglycosides pretreatment and detection methods since 2010. Moreover, novel pretreatment methods such as microextraction, QuEChERS and online technology as well as novel analytic methods such as orbitrap MS, are summarized. Furthermore, we elaborate and compare the merits and demerits of diverse pretreatment and analytical methods and suggest their future prospects.</span>

Abstract:Aminoglycosides (AGs) are broad-spectrum antibiotics used in both human infection and animal medicine. The overuse of AGs causes undesirable residues in food, leading to serious health problems due to food chain accumulation. In recent years, various methods have been developed to determine AGs in food. Among these methods, fluorescent (FL), colorimetric and chemiluminescent (CL) optical methods possess advantages such as their simple instrumentation, low cost, simple operation, feasibility of realizing visualization, and smartphone imaging. This mini-review summarizes optical assays for the detection of AGs in food developed in recent years. The detection principles for different categories are discussed. Then, the amplification techniques for the ultrasensitive detection of AGs are introduced. We also discuss multiplex methods for the simultaneous detection of AGs. Finally, the challenges and future prospects are discussed in the Conclusions and Perspectives section.

Abstract:Antibiotic abuse is becoming increasingly serious and the potential for harm to human health and the environment has aroused widespread social concern. Aminoglycoside antibiotics (AGs) are broad-spectrum antibiotics that have been widely used in clinical and animal medicine. Consequently, their residues are commonly found in animal-derived food items and the environment. A simple, rapid, and sensitive detection method for on-site screening and detection of AGs is urgently required. In recent years, with the development of molecular detection technology, nucleic acid aptamers have been successfully used as recognition molecules for the identification and detection of AGs in food and the environment. These aptamers have high affinities, selectivities, and specificities, are inexpensive, and can be produced with small batch-to-batch differences. This paper reviews the applications of aptamers for AG detection in colorimetric, fluorescent, chemiluminescent, surface plasmon resonance, and electrochemical sensors for the analysis in food and environmental samples. This study provides useful references for future research.

Abstract:Aminoglycosides are a widely used group of antibiotics in veterinary medicine. However, misuse and abuse of these drugs can lead to residues in the edible tissues of animals. Due to the toxicity of aminoglycosides and the exposure of consumers to the emergence of drug resistance, new methods are being sought to determine aminoglycosides in food. The method presented in this manuscript describes the determination of twelve aminoglycosides (streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, spectinomycin, neomycin, gentamicin, hygromycin, paromomycin, kanamycin, tobramycin, amikacin, apramycin, and sisomycin) in thirteen matrices (muscle, kidney, liver, fat, sausages, shrimps, fish honey, milk, eggs, whey powder, sour cream, and curd). Aminoglycosides were isolated from samples with extraction buffer (10 mM NH4OOCH3, 0.4 mM Na2EDTA, 1% NaCl, 2% TCA). For the clean-up purpose, HLB cartridges were used. Analysis was performed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) with a Poroshell analytical column and a mobile phase of acetonitrile and heptafluorobutyric acid. The method was validated according to Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/808 requirements. Good performance characteristics were obtained for recovery, linearity, precision, specificity, and decision limits (CCα). This simple and high-sensitivity method can determine multi-aminoglycosides in various food samples for confirmatory analysis.

Among all the food safety problems, antibiotic residues in animal derived foods are one of the most serious food contaminations that threaten human health seriously. However, the conventional techniques for monitoring and detection of antibiotics have shortcomings such as complicated sample pretreatment procedures, complex and time-consuming operations, dependence on expensive and bulky instruments, need for skilled professional personnel as well as poor selectivity and sensitivity, thus limiting their applications.Scope and approachThe emergence of aptamers provides a new novel probe for the establishment of aptasensors to circumvent those drawbacks because of their outstanding superiorities. Thus, the application of aptamers for monitoring and detection of antibiotic residues has attracted increasing attention and has become one of the research hotspots in the past years, showing a great potential for practical transformation and commercialization.Key findings and conclusionsIn this review, the recent progresses of aptamer selection against various antibiotics were first presented. Then, the design and fabrication of various nanomaterials based aptasensors for monitoring and detection of antibiotic residues in animal derived foods were systematically summarized, with anticipation to avoid repeated work on aptamer selection and provide new insight and point out the future direction into the development of aptasensors for antibiotic detection.

Abstract:<p>The use of aminoglycoside antibiotics is prevalent in medicine and agriculture. Their overuse increases their mobility in the environment, resulting in a need for reliable methods for their determination in a variety of matrices. However, the properties of aminoglycosides, in particular their high polarity, make the development of such methods a non-trivial task, inciting researchers to tackle this complex issue from different angles. The necessity to determine aminoglycosides in complex matrices and at low concentration levels requires the development of relatively elaborate sample preparation methods and the use of selective and sensitive detection techniques. Various modes of liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry are usually the analytical methods of choice. However, the recent developments in techniques such as bioassays, quantum dot-based colourimetric applications and various aptasensors point towards the development of more easily accessible and user-friendly point-of-need tests for screening applications in food control and environmental monitoring. This review summarizes the state-of-the-art in sample preparation protocols and the determination of aminoglycosides using various techniques and outlines the future trends with an emphasis placed on the novel and emerging solutions in this area.</p>

Abstract:<p>Foodborne diseases caused by pathogens are great threats to human health. Rapid detection of foodborne pathogens at an early stage is imperative for preventing the outbreak of diseases. The identification and detection of foodborne pathogens by biosensors have attracted great attention due to their high sensitivity, nearly real-time quantification without enrichment and the possibility of on-site detection with easy-to-use format. As a promising alternative recognition element of biosensors, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) with high stability and low cost have been widely studied in the detection of bacteria. In this review, we retrospect the advances on AMPs-based detection methods for foodborne pathogens including electrochemical, optical and piezoelectric methods as well as their integrations with nanomaterials. Considering the important roles of AMPs affinity in detection, the factors influencing AMPs affinity are introduced before the review of various AMPs-based methods. In addition, as a new promising technology, the microfluidics has been integrated with AMPs-based methods to detect foodborne pathogens. Finally, future perspectives and challenges in developing reliable and sensitive AMPs-based platforms are discussed.</p>

Abstract:Abstract Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by fungus. Many mycotoxin species are highly toxic and are frequently found in cereals and feedstuffs. So, powerful detection methods are vital and effective ways to prevent feed contamination. Traditional detection methods can no longer meet the needs of massive, real-time, simple, and fast mycotoxin monitoring. Rapid detection methods based on advanced material and sensor technology are the future trend. In this review, we highlight recent progress of mycotoxin rapid detection strategies in feedstuffs and foods, especially for simultaneous multiplex mycotoxin determination. Immunoassays, biosensors, and the prominent roles of nanomaterials are introduced. The principles of different types of recognition and signal transduction are explained, and the merits and pitfalls of these methods are compared. Furthermore, limitations and challenges of existing rapid sensing strategies and perspectives of future research are discussed.

Abstract:Residues of antibiotics (ABs) in the aquatic environment and in food of animal origin represent a major concern, as prolonged exposure to ABs is a serious health hazard, related to both the side effects of prolonged use and the risk of developing bacterial resistance to various ABs. Given the low levels of the AB residues in complex matrices, the development of sensitive analytical methods represents a major challenge. This is certainly true for the aminoglycoside ABs (AGs) which lack a chromophore and show poor chromatographic properties in reversed-phase liquid chromatography. This paper reviews the current state of the art in the determination of AGs. Attention is paid to extraction, sample clean-up, chromatographic separation, and detection of AGs in both environmental and food samples and in plasma and serum. A general workflow for the analysis of AGs is presented which takes into account the matrix and required level of information.

Abstract:Antibiotics (ANBs) are essential for animal health and are used for treatment, prevention, and growth promotion. However, ANB use in animals can lead to antibiotic residue in food products, which can cause various side effects. These include the transfer of ANB-resistant bacteria to humans, immunopathological effects, allergies, and even carcinogenicity. The most significant adverse effect is the transfer of ANB-resistant bacteria to humans due to the mobile properties of resistance. Therefore, timely detection is the best approach to prevent the spread of downsides of these compounds. Various methods exist for measuring ANB concentrations, such as LC-MS, high-performance liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, thin-layer chromatography, and enzyme-linked immunoassay. However, complicated sample preparation processes and expensive equipment are often considered obstacles to their prevalent usage. Emerging technologies like Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) offer a simpler, quicker, and more cost-effective solution for detecting veterinary drugs in animal-derived food samples. This investigation first reviews some conventional methods for ANB recognition, including microbiological, immunological, and laboratory-based procedures. Then, Sensor-based analytical methods and their advantages and disadvantages were discussed. Finally, the recent progress in ANB detection approaches using MOF-based sensors in food products was investigated. MOFs have become a topic of great interest due to their remarkable properties. These include high surface areas that can be easily modified, defined porosity, lightweight, adjustable pore sizes, ordered structures, and impressive mechanical strength. The performance of MOFs is superior to traditional chemosensory materials due to their ability to adjust properties. Various sensing systems based on MOFs have been reported, including photoelectrochemical, electrochemiluminescence, electrochemical, and quartz crystal microbalance. As discussed in this review, sensors based on MOFs have emerged as reliable alternatives for fast and routine detection in clinical and environmental analysis and food safety control. Various MOF-based materials have been used for detecting antibiotics, and their advantages and limitations have been critically evaluated for future applications in diagnosing antibiotics in food products.

Abstract:The aminoglycosides are a large and diverse class of antibiotics that characteristically contain two or more aminosugars linked by glycosidic bonds to an aminocyclitol component. Structures are presented for over 30 of the most important members of this family of compounds. The use of aminoglycosides in clinical and veterinary medicine and in agriculture is described. Qualitative methods for aminoglycoside analysis include X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS). The major part of this article comprises a comprehensive review of quantitative methods for the determination of aminoglycosides. These are microbiological assay, radiochemical assay, radioimmunoassay, enzyme immunoassay, fluoroimmunoassay and other immunoassays, spectrophotometric and other non-separative methods, gas chromatography (GC), thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and capillary electrophoresis (CE). Simple spectrophotometric methods may be adequate for the assay of bulk pharmaceuticals and their formulations. Microbiological assays make useful semi-quantitative screening tests for the analysis of veterinary drug residues in food, but rapid enzyme immunoassays are more suitable for accurate measurements of aminoglycosides in complex matrices. Automated immunoassays are the most appropriate methods for serum aminoglycoside determinations during therapeutic drug monitoring. HPLC techniques provide the specificity and sensitivity required for pharmacokinetic and other research studies, while HPLC-MS is employed for the confirmation of veterinary drug residues. The potential for further development of chromatographic and CE methods for the analysis of biological samples is outlined.

Abstract:In recent years, the abuse of antibiotics has led to the pollution of soil and water environment, not only poultry husbandry and food manufacturing will be influenced to different degree, but also the human body will produce antibody. The detection of antibiotic content in production and life is imperative. In this review, we provide comprehensive information about chemical sensors and biosensors for antibiotic detection. We classify the currently reported antibiotic detection technologies into chromatography, mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis, optical detection, and electrochemistry, introduce some representative examples for each technology, and conclude the advantages and limitations. In particular, the optical and electrochemical methods based on nanomaterials are discussed and evaluated in detail. In addition, the latest research in the detection of antibiotics by photosensitive materials is discussed. Finally, we summarize the pros and cons of various antibiotic detection methods and present a discussion and outlook on the expansion of cross-scientific areas. The synthesis and application of optoelectronic nanomaterials and aptamer screening are discussed and prospected, and the future trends and potential impact of biosensors in antibiotic detection are outlined.

Abstract:Antibiotics are extensively employed as bacteriostatic agents for fighting against microbial infection in animals. However, inappropriate doses of antibiotic drugs may result in antibiotic residues in food of animal origin and may cause various side effects on human health. Moreover, the transferor of antibiotic-resistant bacteria to humans through the food chain may induce serious health hazards. Hence, it is vital to develop sensitive and selective methods for rapid screening and regular monitoring of antibiotic residues in animal-derived foods. The conventional different chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques are time-consuming, expensive and require skilled personnel. To overcome such limitations, biosensors have emerged as an innovative approach recently and integrated with nanotechnologies for sensitive, rapid and on-site monitoring of different antibiotic residues in animal origin foods. This mini-review aims to give an overview of the currently available biosensing techniques to detect antibiotic residue in foods.

Abstract:Antibiotics are widely utilized in agriculture for the prevention and treatment of animal diseases. How-ever, the abuse and overuse of antibiotics progressively increase the risks of antibiotic residues and antibiotic resis-tance. The bioaccumulation and biomagnification of antibiotics through food chains will negatively affect ecological safety, and finally threaten human health. There are many shortages of traditional antibiotic detection techniques, such as complex procedures, complicated operation and time consuming, and thus are difficult to meet the demand of instant, efficient and accurate on-site detection. Therefore, it is crucial to develop rapid detection techniques of antibiotics to manage the application of antibiotics in agriculture. We reviewed the utilization, and management of antibiotics in animal husbandry, residual characteristics, and potential hazards of antibiotics in agricultural products, summarized the advancements in rapid detection techniques of antibiotics in agricultural products over the past five years, compared the advantages and disadvantages of different rapid detection techniques, and prospected the future development in this area. This review would provide a valuable reference to the control and point-of-care test of antibiotics in agricultural products.

Abstract:<h2>Abstract</h2><p>Aflatoxin B1(AFB1) is one of the most toxic mycotoxins produced by fungi and results in inevitable contamination of food and feed at very low concentrations. Therefore, there is an urgent need to implement selective, sensitive and highly convenient methods for the determination of aflatoxin B1. Among these methods, the progress of nanomaterials, owing to their high performances and versatile properties, offers great prospects for realizing highly sensitive, selective and simple detection of AFB1, overcoming the restrictions of traditional methods such as process-complicated, time-consuming, labor-intensive and instruments-expensive. Many nanomaterials have been used for the immobilization of biomolecules as signal generators or fluorescent quenchers or for signal amplification in AFB1 detection. This review highlights recent progress that has been made in the development of nanoparticle-based assays and focuses on the analytical potential of nanomaterials, such as Au/Ag nanoparticles (Au/Ag NPs), carbon-based nanoparticles (CBNs), magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), Quantum dots (QDs) and novel nanomaterials, including up-conversion nanoparticles (UCNPs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and nanomaterial-functional DNA intelligent hydrogels, as well as hybrid nanostructures. The determination of AFB1 is divided into three aspects: sample pretreatment prior to AFB1 detection, immunoassays and biosensors. The details of the detection methods and their application principles are described, and the challenges and opportunities in the field of food analysis are described.</p>
