Abstract:Background: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a highly prevalent pain condition in which pelvic floor myofascial pain syndrome (MPPS) is also frequently found. Optimal treatments for CPP and MPPS are unknown. The aims of this pilot study were to investigate the effect of pelvic floor magnetic stimulation (MS) in women with MPPS. Treatment effects were compared between patients receiving MS alone, myofascial release therapy (MRT) alone, and MS + MRT. Methods: Patients were divided into three groups: MS, MRT, and MS + MRT. Questionnaires including Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ), Pelvic Pain and Urgency/Frequency questionnaire (PUF), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), and clinical global impression scale (CGI) were used to assess changes in subjective symptoms before and after treatment. Pelvic floor muscle function was assessed by the Modified Oxford Scale and Surface electromyography (sEMG). Pain mapping was used to locate trigger points (TPs) and to score the intensity of pain. A Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was used to measure the intensity of pain on a scale of 0 to 10. Changes in the above evaluation indexes within each group and between groups were evaluated after 5 treatment sessions and 10 treatment sessions. Results: Nineteen patients completed the treatment between November 2020 and August 2021. The SF-MPQ and PUF scores decreased significantly (p < 0.01) after treatment. The VAS score for pelvic floor tenderness also decreased significantly after 5 and 10 treatment sessions (p < 0.01). At the end of 10 sessions, the HAMA score was significantly lower than prior to treatment (p < 0.01). Conclusions: This preliminary study shows that MS is effective for the treatment of MPPS. Abstract:Objective To assess the use of cannabis as a symptom management strategy for patients with fibromyalgia. Patients and Methods An electronic, cross-sectional survey was conducted among patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia and treated in Integrative Medicine & Health at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. The survey was constructed with the Symptom Management Theory tool and was sent anonymously via web-based software to patients with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Results Of 5234 patients with fibromyalgia sent the online survey, 1336 (25.5%) responded and met the inclusion criteria. Survey respondents had a median age of 48 (Q1-Q3: 37.5-58.0) years, and most identified as female. Nearly half of respondents (49.5%, n=661) reported cannabis use since their fibromyalgia diagnosis. The most common symptoms for which respondents reported using cannabis were pain (98.9%, n=654); fatigue (96.2%; n=636); stress, anxiety, or depression (93.9%; n=621); and insomnia (93.6%; n=619). Improvement in pain symptoms with cannabis use was reported by 82.0% (n=536). Most cannabis-using respondents reported that cannabis also improved symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression and of insomnia. Conclusion Considering that cannabis is a popular choice among patients for managing fibromyalgia symptoms, clinicians should have adequate knowledge of cannabis when discussing therapeutic options for fibromyalgia with their patients.

Abstract:Introduction Up to 41% of women experience female orgasm disorder/difficulty (FOD), a statistic unchanged for 50 years. Despite this, there is a paucity of validated treatments. Research has suggested cannabis as a treatment for female sexual disorders for more than 50 years. Yet a literature review revealed no studies evaluating cannabis as a treatment specifically for FOD and no studies comparing women with and without FOD. This study is the first to evaluate cannabis as a treatment for FOD specifically in women with and without FOD. Objective Evaluate the effect of cannabis use before partnered sex on women with and without FOD. Methods This IRB-approved observational study conducted between March 24, 2022, and November 18, 2022, evaluated baseline demographics, sexual behavior, mental health, cannabis use, and the orgasm subscale questions of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), evaluating orgasm frequency, orgasm satisfaction, and orgasm ease, with and without cannabis before partnered sex. Results Of 1,037 survey responses, the researchers received 410 valid, completed surveys; failure to meet the study's criteria required excluding 23 (5.6%) surveys. Among the 387 valid survey participants, the majority of women, 52% (n = 202) reported orgasm difficulty, were between the ages of 25–34 (45%, n = 91), reported their race as white (75%, n = 152), and were married or in a relationship (82%, n = 165). Among respondents reporting orgasm difficulty (n = 202), cannabis use before partnered sex increased orgasm frequency (72.8%, n = 147/202, p < .001), improved orgasm satisfaction (67%, n = 136/202, p < .001) or made orgasm easier (71%, n = 143/202, p < .001). Frequency of cannabis use before partnered sex correlated with increased orgasm frequency for women with FOD (n = 202, p< .001). Orgasm response to cannabis depended on the reasons for use (n = 202, p = .022). Women with FOD reported 24% more mental health issues, 52.6% more PTSD, 29% more depressive disorders, 13% more anxiety disorders, and 22% more prescription drug use than women without FOD. Women with FOD were more likely to report sexual abuse history than women without FOD (38.6%, n=74/202). Conclusions Fifty years of sexuality research support use of cannabis for sexual difficulties. This is the first study to look at FOD specifically, demonstrating significant benefit. Randomized controlled studies are needed to evaluate cannabis' efficacy on FOD sub-types, mental health and physical health conditions and other clinical implications; evaluating dosage, strain, timing, and method of intake. Abstract:Malignant sweat gland neoplasms are rare tumors. Historically, the principal mode of treatment has been local surgical excision. Eight published studies show that >50% of patients develop either local tumor recurrence after surgery or regional lymph node metastases. Most patients have evidence of locoregional failure before distant metastases are detected. Three patients were recently referred to the University of Arizona Cancer Center for consideration of irradiation after resection of such tumors. In two patients, the tumor was located on the scalp and, in one patient, on the alar surface of the nose. Their ages ranged from 19 to 60 years. All underwent surgical resection followed by high‐dose irradiation of the surgical bed (∼70 Gy) and regional lymphatic chains (∼50 Gy). Two patients remain disease‐free at 27 and 35 months, respectively, after completion of treatment; the third died of rapidly progressive systemic metastases. A review of the literature is provided focusing on treatment success and predominant patterns of recurrence. Finally, a rational approach for evaluation of patients that might benefit from local irradiation is presented.
Beliefs and Narratives Associated with the Treatment of Chronic Pelvic Pain in Women

Abstract:Study objective: Female patients with chronic pelvic pain (CPP) face complicated healthcare journeys, but narrative perspectives on CPP treatment are lacking. Design: We collected data in English and Spanish from discussion groups and individual interviews with stakeholders around female CPP. Setting: A tertiary care center for gynecologic care. Patients: Patients with CPP who self-identified as women/female, community healthcare workers, and providers who care for women with CPP. Interventions: We conducted discussion groups with all 3 types of stakeholders and individual interviews with female patients who have CPP. Measurements and main results: Patient participants completed condition specific validated questionnaires. De-identified transcripts were coded with NVivo software. We contrasted patient characteristics and codes between patients with CPP who did and did not report opioid use in the last 90 days. The mean pain score of patient participants was 6/10 ± 2/10, and 14 of 47 (28%) reported recent opioid use, without significant differences between patients with and without recent opioid use. Thematic saturation was achieved. Five main themes emerged: the debilitating nature of CPP, emotional impacts of CPP, challenges in CPP healthcare interactions, treatment for CPP, and the value of not feeling alone. Common threads voiced by stakeholders included difficulty discussing chronic pain with others, a sense of inertia in treatment, interest in alternative and less invasive treatments before more involved treatments, and the need for individualized, stepwise, integrated treatment plans. Participants agreed that opioids should be used when other treatments fail, but women recently using opioids voiced fewer concerns about addiction and positive experiences with opioid efficacy. Conclusions: These findings among female patients with CPP and also among community healthcare workers and providers advocate for a move toward patient-centered care, particularly the acknowledgment that every woman experiences pain in a singular way. Furthermore, stakeholders voice a deep need for development of individualized treatment plans.

Abstract:Objective: To provide health care providers with the best evidence on cannabis use with respect to women's health. Areas of focus include general patterns of cannabis use as well as safety of use; care for women who use cannabis; stigma; screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment; impact on hormonal regulation; reproductive health, including contraception and fertility; sexual function; effects on perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms; and use in chronic pelvic pain syndromes. Target population: The target population includes all women currently using or contemplating using cannabis. Outcomes: Open, evidence-informed dialogue about cannabis use, which will lead to improvement in patient care. Benefits, harms, and costs: Exploring cannabis use through a trauma-informed approach provides the health care provider and patient with an opportunity to build a strong, collaborative, therapeutic alliance. This alliance empowers women to make informed choices about their own care. It also allows for the diagnosis and possible treatment of cannabis use disorders. Use should not be stigmatized, as stigma leads to poor "partnered care" (i.e., the partnership between the patient and care provider). Multiple side effects of cannabis use may be mistaken for other disorders. Currently, use of cannabis to treat women's health issues is not covered by public funding; as a result, individual users must pay the direct cost. The indirect costs of cannabis use are unknown. Thus, health care providers and patients must understand the role of cannabis in women's health issues, so that women can make knowledgeable decisions. Evidence: PubMed, EMBASE, and grey literature were searched to identify studies of "cannabis use and effect on infertility, contraception, perimenopause and menopausal symptoms, and pelvic pain" published between January 1, 2018 and February 18, 2021. All clinical trials, observational studies, reviews (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses), guidelines, and conference consensus statements were included. Publications were screened for relevance. The search terms were developed using the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and keywords (and variants), including cannabis, cannabinoids, marijuana, dexanabinol, dronabinol, tetrahydrocannabinol; the specific terms to capture women's health were estrogen, estradiol, medroxyprogesterone acetate, vaginal contraception, oral contraceptives, fertilization, amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, and menopause. Validation methods: The authors rated the quality of evidence and strength of recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. See online Appendix A (Tables A1 for definitions and A2 for interpretations of strong and weak recommendations). Intended audience: All heath care providers who care for women. Abstract:Integrative Cancer Therapies, Volume 23, Issue , January-December 2024. Objective:To characterize the patterns of cannabis use among gynecologic cancer patients, in terms of potential factors influencing their decision-making on cannabis use, the reasons for use or non-use, and sources of information on cannabis use.Methods:From March to July 2022, gynecologic cancer patients at a clinic were interviewed and classified into 3 groups: current users, ex-users, and never-users. The received data included: demographic data, cannabis use details, reasons for using and not using, adverse events, satisfaction, and intent to use. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to identify risk factors influencing decision-making.Result:Among 240 participants, 11.67% were classified as current users, 28.33% as ex-users, and 60% as never-users. The significant factors influencing cannabis use decisions were advanced stage and receiving information on cannabis, regardless of the information source. The satisfaction derived from cannabis was due to the enhancement of mood and physical activity, improvement in sleep quality, stimulation of appetite, and mitigation of adverse events associated with cancer treatment. Approximately 60% of users aimed for a cancer cure. The main reasons for quitting were inability to obtain cannabis and absence of persistent cancer symptoms.Conclusion:Among Thai patients with gynecologic cancer, 40% had a history of cannabis use. Advanced cancer stage was an independent factor for decision-making on cannabis use. Sources of information on cannabis are non-healthcare providers. Many patients intended to use cannabis for cancer cure. Also, many were satisfied with use because of a relief of unwanted symptoms, indirectly suggesting improvement in quality of life. The main reason for quitting was unavailability. The main reason for never trying was a concern of interference with treatment. Our results may guide the direction of strategy of cannabis use among patients with gynecologic cancers.

Abstract:Exposure to N‐nitroso compounds is thought to play a key role in the development of gastric cancer in humans. The alkylating agent N‐methyl‐N′‐nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) is carcinogenic in a number of animal models and its preferential target tissue is the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The genetic synteny among rats and humans makes the rat a useful model for induced tumorigenesis. However, because of the limited availability of genetic information, cytogenetic and molecular studies are rarely performed in the rat. We report an investigation of eight MNNG‐induced rat gastric tumors by comparative genomic hybridization (CGH). The tumors were from forestomach (induced by a single dose of MNNG) and from pylorus (induced by chronic exposure). CGH identified a genetic fingerprint of chromosomal imbalances common to the two types of the tumors. Frequent gains were observed at 9q11–q12, 15q22–25, and Xq11–q12. Forestomach carcinomas were also characterized by gains in 7q11–q12, 20q13, and Yq12. Homology studies between the rat and human genomes indicate the presence of genes within these regions with potential relevance to tumorigenesis in the GI tract. Our findings provide new insights into the location of genes involved in MNNG‐induced gastric cancer initiation and/or progression in the rat. Environ. Mol. Abstract:Background: The legal climate for cannabis use has dramatically changed with an increasing number of states passing legislation legalizing access for medical and recreational use. Among cancer patients, cannabis is often used to ameliorate adverse effects of cancer treatment. Data are limited on the extent and type of use among cancer patients during treatment and the perceived benefits and harms. This multicenter survey was conducted to assess the use of cannabis among cancer patients residing in states with varied legal access to cannabis. Methods: A total of 12 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers, across states with varied cannabis-access legal status, conducted surveys with a core questionnaire to assess cannabis use among recently diagnosed cancer patients. Data were collected between September 2021 and August 2023 and pooled across 12 cancer centers. Frequencies and 95% confidence intervals for core survey measures were calculated, and weighted estimates are presented for the 10 sites that drew probability samples. Results: Overall reported cannabis use since cancer diagnosis among survey respondents was 32.9% (weighted), which varied slightly by state legalization status. The most common perceived benefits of use were for pain, sleep, stress and anxiety, and treatment side effects. Reported perceived risks were less common and included inability to drive, difficulty concentrating, lung damage, addiction, and impact on employment. A majority reported feeling comfortable speaking to health-care providers though, overall, only 21.5% reported having done so. Among those who used cannabis since diagnosis, the most common modes were eating in food, smoking, and pills or tinctures, and the most common reasons were for sleep disturbance, followed by pain and stress and anxiety with 60%-68% reporting improved symptoms with use. Conclusion: This geographically diverse survey demonstrates that patients use cannabis regardless of its legal status. Addressing knowledge gaps concerning benefits and harms of cannabis use during cancer treatment is critical to enhance patient-provider communication.
Self-reported pain severity and use of cannabis and opioids in persons with HIV in an urban primary care setting in Northern California: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:Persons with HIV (PWH) experience high levels of pain. We examined the relationship of pain severity with use of cannabis and prescription opioids among PWH. This cross-sectional study evaluated associations between self-reported pain (moderate/severe vs mild/none) and cannabis and prescription opioid use in a primary care sample of PWH enrolled in an alcohol use treatment study at Kaiser Permanente, San Francisco. Prevalence ratios (PR) for moderate/severe pain associated with cannabis, opioid use, or both in the prior 30 days were obtained from Poisson regression models. Adjusted models included race/ethnicity, education, employment, HIV ribonucleic acid levels, depression, and anxiety. Overall, 614 PWH completed baseline questionnaires from May 2013 to May 2015, among whom 182/614 (29.6%) reported moderate/severe pain. The prevalence of moderate/severe pain varied by substances: 19.1% moderate/severe pain among study participants who reported neither cannabis or opioids, 30.2% for cannabis alone, 41.2% for opioids alone, and 60.9% for those reporting both substances. In adjusted models, compared with PWH who reported neither substance (reference), prevalence of moderate/severe pain was higher for those using cannabis alone (PR 1.54; 95% CI 1.13–2.09), opioids alone (PR 1.96; 95% CI 1.31–2.94), and those reporting both (PR 2.66; 95% CI 1.91–3.70). PWH who reported opioid and/or cannabis use were more likely to report moderate/severe pain compared with PWH who did not report use of these substances. To improve patient care, it is vital to assess patients' approaches to pain management including substance use and target appropriate interventions to reduce pain in PWH.

Abstract:Abstract Objective To determine the benefits and harms of medical cannabis and cannabinoids for chronic pain. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. Data sources MEDLINE, EMBASE, AMED, PsycInfo, CENTRAL, CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, Cannabis-Med, Epistemonikos, and trial registries up to January 2021. Study selection Randomised clinical trials of medical cannabis or cannabinoids versus any non-cannabis control for chronic pain at ≥1 month follow-up. Data extraction and synthesis Paired reviewers independently assessed risk of bias and extracted data. We performed random-effects models meta-analyses and used GRADE to assess the certainty of evidence. Results A total of 32 trials with 5174 adult patients were included, 29 of which compared medical cannabis or cannabinoids with placebo. Medical cannabis was administered orally (n=30) or topically (n=2). Clinical populations included chronic non-cancer pain (n=28) and cancer related pain (n=4). Length of follow-up ranged from 1 to 5.5 months. Compared with placebo, non-inhaled medical cannabis probably results in a small increase in the proportion of patients experiencing at least the minimally important difference (MID) of 1 cm (on a 10 cm visual analogue scale (VAS)) in pain relief (modelled risk difference (RD) of 10% (95% confidence interval 5% to 15%), based on a weighted mean difference (WMD) of −0.50 cm (95% CI −0.75 to −0.25 cm, moderate certainty)). Medical cannabis taken orally results in a very small improvement in physical functioning (4% modelled RD (0.1% to 8%) for achieving at least the MID of 10 points on the 100-point SF-36 physical functioning scale, WMD of 1.67 points (0.03 to 3.31, high certainty)), and a small improvement in sleep quality (6% modelled RD (2% to 9%) for achieving at least the MID of 1 cm on a 10 cm VAS, WMD of −0.35 cm (−0.55 to −0.14 cm, high certainty)). Medical cannabis taken orally does not improve emotional, role, or social functioning (high certainty). Moderate certainty evidence shows that medical cannabis taken orally probably results in a small increased risk of transient cognitive impairment (RD 2% (0.1% to 6%)), vomiting (RD 3% (0.4% to 6%)), drowsiness (RD 5% (2% to 8%)), impaired attention (RD 3% (1% to 8%)), and nausea (RD 5% (2% to 8%)), but not diarrhoea; while high certainty evidence shows greater increased risk of dizziness (RD 9% (5% to 14%)) for trials with <3 months follow-up versus RD 28% (18% to 43%) for trials with ≥3 months follow-up; interaction test P=0.003; moderate credibility of subgroup effect). Conclusions Moderate to high certainty evidence shows that non-inhaled medical cannabis or cannabinoids results in a small to very small improvement in pain relief, physical functioning, and sleep quality among patients with chronic pain, along with several transient adverse side effects, compared with placebo. Abstract:Studying rare human genetic diseases often leads to a better understanding of normal cellular functions. Fanconi anemia (FA), for example, has elucidated a novel DNA repair mechanism required for maintaining genomic stability and preventing cancer. The FA pathway, an essential tumor-suppressive pathway, is required for protecting the human genome from a specific type of DNA damage; namely, DNA interstrand cross-links (ICLs). In this review, we discuss the recent progress in the study of the FA pathway, such as the identification of new FANCM-binding partners and the identification of RAD51C and FAN1 (Fanconi-associated nuclease 1) as new FA pathway-related proteins. We also focus on the role of the FA pathway as a potential regulator of DNA repair choices in response to double-strand breaks, and its novel functions during the mitotic phase of the cell cycle.
Women's perceptions and experiences with cannabis use in menopause: a qualitative study

Abstract:Objectives: Since the legalization of recreational cannabis in 2018, the use of cannabis for medical reasons has increased in Canada. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences and perceptions of midlife women using cannabis for medical purposes coinciding with menopause symptom management. Methods: Semistructured, one-on-one interviews were conducted using a qualitative description method. This was the second phase of a mixed methods study, where interviewees were purposefully selected from a sample of women (ages 35 and over, located in Alberta) surveyed during the first phase of the study. Interviews were by phone or virtual meeting, audio-recorded, and transcribed verbatim. Qualitative content analysis was applied to analyze the data collected. Results: Twelve interviews were conducted between December 2020 and April 2021. Menopause was perceived as a complex experience for women. Cannabis was described as a therapeutic agent, providing symptom relief through the menopause transition. Women reported similarities in their menopause and cannabis use experiences in the lack of information available, limited role of healthcare providers, feelings of stigmatization, and emphasis on self-education. Women self-managed their cannabis use, learning from their own experiences or the anecdotal sharing of others', accessed cannabis from a variety of medical and nonmedical sources, and relied on experimentation, and a range of supports were described. Conclusion: Midlife women pursued the use of cannabis medically to manage symptoms that overlap with menopause. Understanding how and why midlife women use cannabis medically can provide insight for future research and the development of educational resources to support women in menopause.

Abstract:Objectives: Cannabis is used by one-third of people living with chronic pain to alleviate their symptoms despite warnings from several organizations regarding its efficacy and safety. We currently know little about self-medication practices (use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes without guidance), mainly since the legalization of recreational cannabis in countries such as Canada has expanded the scope of this phenomenon. This study aimed to describe legal cannabis self-medication for pain relief in people living with chronic pain and to explore perceptions of the effectiveness and safety of cannabis. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed among 73 individuals living with chronic pain and using cannabis (Quebec, Canada). Data collection using telephone interviews occurred in early 2023. Results: Results indicated that 61.6% of participants reported using cannabis without the guidance of a healthcare professional (self-medication). Surprisingly, among those, 40.0% held a medical authorization. Overall, 20.6% of study participants were using both medical and legal non-medical cannabis. Different pathways to self-medication were revealed. Proportion of women vs. men participants self-medicating were 58.2% vs. 70.6% (P=0.284). In terms of perceptions, 90.4% of the sample perceived cannabis to be effective for pain management; 72.6% estimated that it posed no or minimal health risk. Discussion: Cannabis research is often organized around medical vs. non-medical cannabis but in the real-world, those two vessels are connected. Interested parties, including researchers, healthcare professionals and funding agencies, need to consider this. Patients using cannabis feel confident in the safety of cannabis, and many of them self-medicate, which calls for action.
Cannabis Use Differences Among Sexual Minority Versus Heterosexual Females and Males in Oklahoma: The Roles of Mental Health, Cannabis Perceptions, and Cannabis Marketing Exposure

Abstract:Introduction: Despite the high cannabis use rates among sexual minority (SM) individuals, less research has examined factors related to cannabis use among SM (vs. heterosexual) individuals, especially in places with legal medical cannabis retail markets and high structural stigma, like Oklahoma. Methods: Data were from a survey of Oklahoma adults, including 3020 females (18.6% SM) and 2279 males (10.1% SM). Bivariate analyses examined associations of sexual identity with cannabis-related factors (i.e., perceived harm, positive attitudes, marketing exposure, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms) and cannabis use and use severity (i.e., past 30-day use, daily/near-daily use, cannabis use disorder [CUD] symptoms). Logistic regression examined associations of sexual identity and cannabis-related factors with cannabis use and use severity among females and males, separately. Results: SM (vs. heterosexual) females reported greater odds of past 30-day cannabis use and daily/near-daily use, lower harm perceptions, greater marketing exposure, and higher rates of depressive/anxiety symptoms. Lower harm perceptions and greater marketing exposure were associated with greater odds of past 30-day use, whereas marketing exposure was associated with greater odds of daily/near-daily use. SM (vs. heterosexual) males reported greater odds of daily/near-daily use and higher rates of depressive/anxiety symptoms. Conclusions: SM (vs. heterosexual) females reported higher rates of cannabis use, whereas SM (vs. heterosexual) females and males reported higher rates of daily/near-daily cannabis use. Potential targets for cannabis-related health campaigns aimed at reducing use differences include correcting misinterpretations of harm that may emanate from cannabis marketing efforts among females and addressing depressive symptoms among males.

Abstract:Background: Cannabis has increasingly become an alternative treatment for chronic pain, however, there is evidence of concomitant negative health effects with its long-term usage. Patients contemplating cannabis use for pain relief commonly see information online but may not be able to identify trustworthy and accurate sources, therefore, it is imperative that healthcare practitioners play a role in assisting them in discerning the quality of information. The present study assesses the quality of web-based consumer health information available at the intersection of cannabis and pain. Methods: A cross-sectional quality assessment of website information was conducted. Three countries were searched on Google: Canada, the Netherlands, and the USA. The first 3 pages of generated websites were used in each of the 9 searches. Eligible websites contained cannabis consumer health information for pain treatment. Only English-language websites were included. Encyclopedias (i.e. Wikipedia), forums, academic journals, general news websites, major e-commerce websites, websites not publicly available, books, and video platforms were excluded. Information presented on eligible websites were assessed using the DISCERN instrument. The DISCERN instrument consists of three sections, the first focusing on the reliability of the publication, the second investigating individual aspects of the publication, and the third providing an overall averaged score. Results: Of 270 websites identified across searches, 216 were duplicates, and 18 were excluded based on eligibility criteria, resulting in 36 eligible websites. The average summed DISCERN score was 48.85 out of 75.00 (SD = 8.13), and the average overall score (question 16) was 3.10 out of 5.00 (SD = 0.62). These overall scores were calculated from combining the scores for questions 1 through 15 in the DISCERN instrument for each website. Websites selling cannabis products/services scored the lowest, while health portals scored the highest. Conclusion: These findings indicate that online cannabis consumer health information for the treatment/management of pain presents biases to readers. These biases included websites: (1) selectively citing studies that supported the benefits associated with cannabis use, while neglecting to mention those discussing its risks, and (2) promoting cannabis as "natural" with the implication that this equated to "safe". Healthcare providers should be involved in the guidance of patients' seeking and use of online information on this topic.
