Abstract:The safety of monopolar radiofrequency electrical energy has been proven by 50 years of use during laparotomy. But how much do we know about diathermy and does its use differ in laparoscopic surgery? Alternating current, the type used for surgical diathermy, is characterized by power output (the rate of power delivered at a given time.) and frequency modulation. The latter refers to the number of changes in the direction of the current within 1 s and how this number changes over time. Empirically, it has been found that certain frequencies are more appropriate when cutting or coagulation is desired. ‘Polarity’ (monopolar versus bipolar) refers to the number of electrical poles at the site of application; the main difference is the distance between the poles. For monopolar, the second pole is the dispersive electrode plate, usually attached to the patient’s thigh. In bipolar mode, the distance between the poles is a few millimetres and the current affects only the tissue located between these poles. Relatively low power is needed in bipolar mode; up to ten times more is required in monopolar mode because the body is a poor electrical conductor. The relatively low power of bipolar diathermy is insufficient to obtain the power density required to cut tissue. This power density is the key element that determines the thermodynamic effect. In general, a highly concentrated electrical field leads to vaporization (cutting) of tissue and a more dispersed field results in coagulation. It is possible to manipulate this bioeffect of electrical current only in the monopolar mode, although recent advances in bipolar technology may have overcome this problem’. Changing between, or combining, cutting and coagulation is usually achieved via a switch on the diathermy machine, but the surgeon may change the contact area at the point of dissection to convert a high-power ‘cutting’ output to ‘coagulation’ by holding, for example, a forceps between diathermy instrument and tissue, thereby reducing the power density. Monopolar electrical energy is the most frequently used method of dissection in laparoscopic surgery today. Lasers have been readily adapted to laparoscopic surgery but have no proven safety benefit over the less expensive and more freely available electrocautery systems2. Laser dissection methods rely on the ability of light energy to excite molecules sufficient to cause heating of the recipient tissue and disruption of structural proteins3. Carbon dioxide laser dissection, in particular, has an inherent ‘backstop effect’ that is difficult to control and may lead to inadvertent damage of structures adjacent to the area of intended coagulation4. Newer technology using the neodymium yttrium-aluminium-garnet laser with contact tips has eliminated the danger of a free beam loose in a body cavity, but energy penetrates deeply (3-4 mm) and may injure adjacent tissue inadvertently. The potential problems associated with the laparoscopic use of monopolar electrocoagulation are not fully appreciated5. They relate to unrecognized energy transfer (‘stray current’) outside the view of the laparoscope. During laparoscopic surgery electrical energy is passed through the abdominal wall via cannulas (which themselves may or may not be conductors) by instruments (which may or may not be adequately insulated) to tissues being dissected. ‘The only part of this circuit that is visible is the tissue being dissected. Potential areas for concern include insulation breaks, induced currents between a correctly insulated instrument and its surrounding cannula (capacitative coupling), unintended contact with other metal instruments within the abdomen (direct coupling), energy transfer through tissue from the point of dissection, and arcing (sparking) to local structures from a dissecting electrode that has been activated but is not in contact with the body. Therefore, electrical injury remote from the site of surgery may occur as a result of tissue conduction, discharge of induced capacitative coupled current, and high-voltage sparking. Hunter’, and Voyles and Tucker5 recently addressed the problems of stray current outside the view of the laparoscope. Insulation defects, although frequently not visually perceptible, may lead to near 100 per cent delivery of electrical energy at a site beylond the view of the laparoscope. The hazard of insulation failure depends on the location of the point of failure along the instrument. If in the handle, it may cause a shock to the surgeon. If outside the view of the camera, thermal injury may occur to any viscus in contact with the defective instrument. If it occurs within the metal cannula, the only evidence may be interference with the electrosurgical generator, jerking of the abdominal wall, or interference with the video monitor. This may be harmless as the current is dissipated
Development and evaluation of an online training program for palliative care in India

Abstract:Objective: Palliative care training at the undergraduate level is poor in India. With the need for palliative care rising in India and globally, it is possible to train physicians in resource-limited settings in palliative care via online training programs owing to ease of access and convenience. However, there is limited evidence available from India on the development and implementation of such a training program. This study aims to describe the development of an online training program offered by the Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences (TIPS), Kerala, and the impact of the program on the confidence of physicians in managing various palliative care needs of their patients. Material and Methods: The course was developed by an interdisciplinary expert team from TIPS. The course content was made keeping in mind the local sociocultural factors in India and was peer-reviewed by two external experts. The program was started in 2018 and updated and revised over the years. Currently, the program has 20 sessions, each lasting for 90 minutes. The course content was disseminated using project-ECHOs tele mentoring model. To assess the impact of the training program, self-reported change in confidence from twenty-two batches of physicians, trained from January 2020 to August 2023. Feedback from participants was also assessed to identify areas of improvement in the training program. Results: A total of 1159 physicians were trained during the study period. At the end of the course, 51.2% of the participants completed the evaluation survey and had a statistically significant (p<0.05) improvement in confidence in pain, gastrointestinal symptoms and breathlessness management, morphine prescription, and psychosocial communication. The duration of each session and the entire course was reported to be ideal by 88.6% and 87.9% of participants, respectively. Conclusion: Our results show that online training can be effectively used to build confidence in physicians in managing various palliative care needs.

Abstract:The models of stuttering and delayed auditory feedback (DAF) discussed in this paper are derived from a model of the fluent production of speech in which a rhythmic structure prespecifies the intervals between vowels of stressed syllables. The same rhythmic structure enables a prediction to be made concerning when vowels of stressed syllables will be auditorily perceived. In both stuttering and speech produced under DAF conditions, it is suggested that an incorrect prediction is made concerning when the vowel will be perceived relative to its production. The proposed model of stuttering can account for a variety of other phenomena. Finally, a preliminary model of the onset of stuttering in children is proposed.

Abstract:Abstract Background Inadequate attention has been given to ensuring ongoing training to improve knowledge, skills and capacity of primary health care providers in low- and middle-income countries. The Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam is providing training sessions for physicians working in commune health stations (CHSs) in three mountainous, remote northern provinces in 2019. This article aims to assess these physicians’ knowledge of correct medical responses to emergencies in order to assess their training needs. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study amongst doctors posted to CHSs located in 3 mountainous remote provinces of northern Vietnam. We used a self-administered questionnaire that comprised questions on common medical emergencies, maternal and child care, and non-communicable disease management. We performed Chi-square tests to assess the statistical significance of differences in the mean proportions of correct answers for each health care question category, and for differences in mean proportions of correct answers by doctor characteristics. Results In total 302 doctors were recruited to the study. More than half of the sample answered 30–50% of the questions correctly, followed by around a third who answered 50–70% correctly. Less than 2% of doctors answered more than 70% correct responses to the entire question set. There were statistically significant differences between question categories, with cardiovascular care questions answered correctly significantly less often than any of the categories ( p < 0.00001). Conclusion The findings reported here show that the doctors who participated in the study have relatively low knowledge on common emergencies, particularly to answer cardiovascular care questions. The results also support the need for continuing medical education to improve doctors’ knowledge, who are mostly practicing in resource limited remote settings.

Abstract:Introduction In low/middle-income countries (LMICs), training is often used to improve healthcare provider (HCP) performance. However, important questions remain about how well training works and the best ways to design training strategies. The objective of this study is to characterise the effectiveness of training strategies to improve HCP practices in LMICs and identify attributes associated with training effectiveness. Methods We performed a secondary analysis of data from a systematic review on improving HCP performance. The review included controlled trials and interrupted time series, and outcomes measuring HCP practices (eg, percentage of patients correctly treated). Distributions of effect sizes (defined as percentage-point (%-point) changes) were described for each training strategy. To identify effective training attributes, we examined studies that directly compared training approaches and performed random-effects linear regression modelling. Results We analysed data from 199 studies from 51 countries. For outcomes expressed as percentages, educational outreach visits (median effect size when compared with controls: 9.9 %-points; IQR: 4.3–20.6) tended to be somewhat more effective than in-service training (median: 7.3 %-points; IQR: 3.6–17.4), which seemed more effective than peer-to-peer training (4.0 %-points) and self-study (by 2.0–9.3 %-points). Mean effectiveness was greater (by 6.0–10.4 %-points) for training that incorporated clinical practice and training at HCPs’ work site. Attributes with little or no effect were: training with computers, interactive methods or over multiple sessions; training duration; number of educational methods; distance training; trainers with pedagogical training and topic complexity. For lay HCPs, in-service training had no measurable effect. Evidence quality for all findings was low. Conclusions Although additional research is needed, by characterising the effectiveness of training strategies and identifying attributes of effective training, decision-makers in LMICs can improve how these strategies are selected and implemented.

Community-based approaches are promising for supporting healthcare facilities. In Vietnam, community health volunteers are trained in providing health promotion and screening in a culturally adapted training. Opioid Therapy for Cancer Pain in Vietnam: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perceived Barriers Among Health Care Professionals, Policymakers, and Regulators

Abstract:Purpose: We aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes, and perceived barriers among health care professionals (HCPs), policymakers, and regulators in Vietnam related to opioid therapy for cancer pain. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in Vietnam from June to August 2022. Participants completed a questionnaire on their demographic characteristics, knowledge and attitudes toward opioid therapy, and barriers to accessing opioids for cancer pain. Results: Two hundred seven HCPs and 15 policymakers/regulators completed the questionnaire. Poor knowledge about opioids in cancer pain was found in 63.3% of HCPs and 80.0% of policymakers/regulators. Poor knowledge was associated with a lack of training in cancer pain management or palliative care (PC; prevalence ratio [PR], 1.14 [95% CI, 1.04 to 1.24]). Negative attitudes toward opioid therapy in cancer pain were held by 64.7% of HCPs and 80.0% of policymakers/regulators. Negative attitudes were associated with the unavailability of oral morphine in the workplace (PR, 1.10 [95% CI, 1.01 to 1.20]). The most common major barriers reported were the absence of national policy on pain management and PC (34.7%), inadequate training in opioid use for cancer pain (33.8%), lockdown of health facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic (32.4%), limited opioid availability in local health facilities (32.4%), and excessively restrictive regulation of opioid dispensing in pharmacies (32.4%). Conclusion: This study found a knowledge deficit and negative attitudes toward opioid therapy for cancer pain among HCPs and policymakers/regulators. Improving education and training in opioid therapy is essential. Recognizing major barriers can guide strategies to enhance safe opioid accessibility for cancer pain management in Vietnam.

Abstract:Objectives To assess the pre-training knowledge of Commune Health Stations (CHSs) physicians in Vietnam on pregnancy and child care. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted and a pre-training questionnaire was administered with physicians working at CHSs in three mountainous provinces of northern Vietnam. Calculated mean knowledge score and estimated adjusted odds ratios (AOR) to compare the relative odds of occurrence of the outcome “answering more than half of questions correct,” given exposure to the physicians’ characteristics. Results A total of 302 CHS physicians participated. The mean number of correct answers across all participants was 5.4 out of 11. Female physicians are 2.20 (95% CI: 1.35–3.59, p = 0.002) times more likely to answer correctly than their male counterparts. Physicians aged 35 years or more were significantly less likely to answer correctly (AOR 0.35, 95% CI: 0.15–0.81, p = 0.014). Conclusion The study found that participating physicians possessed relatively low knowledge of pregnancy and child care. The study also found significant disparities in this knowledge according to the physicians’ characteristics. Thus, it is recommended the requirement for continuing targeted medical education to improve doctors’ proficiency in these areas.

Effect of a spiritual care training program for staff on patient outcomes

Abstract:ABSTRACT Objective: Physicians and nurses do not assess spirituality routinely, even though spiritual care is a vital part of palliative care for patients with an advanced serious illness. The aim of our study was to determine whether a training program for healthcare professionals on spirituality and the taking of a spiritual history would result in improved patient quality of life (QoL) and spiritual well-being. Method: This was a cluster-controlled trial of a spiritual care training program for palliative care doctors and nurses. Three of seven clinical teams (clusters) received the intervention, while the other four served as controls. Included patients were newly referred to the palliative care service, had an estimated survival of more than one month, and were aware of their diagnosis and prognosis. The primary outcome measure was the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy–Spiritual Well-Being (FACIT–Sp) patient-reported questionnaire, which patients completed at two timepoints. Total FACIT–Sp score includes the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–General (FACT–G) questionnaire, which measures overall quality of life, as well as a spiritual well-being score. Results: Some 144 patients completed the FACIT–Sp at both timepoints—74 in the control group and 70 in the intervention group. The change in overall quality of life, measured by change in FACT–G scores, was 3.89 points (95% confidence interval [ CI 95% ] = –0.42 to 8.19, p = 0.076) higher in the intervention group than in the control group. The difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of change in spiritual well-being was 0.32 ( CI 95% = –2.23 to 2.88, p = 0.804). Significance of results: A brief spiritual care training program can possibly help bring about enhanced improvement of global patient QoL, but the effect on patients' spiritual well-being was not as evident in our participants. Further study with larger sample sizes is needed to allow for more definite conclusions to be drawn.

Abstract:Objectives: This study aims to measure and explore the barriers to translating theoretical knowledge of palliative care into clinical practice. Methods: A mixed-method study, combining a cross-sectional survey and key interviews was conducted. The quantitative data were obtained from 173 nurses and the key interviews were conducted with 42 health professionals drawn from multiple settings. For quantitative data analysis, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software were conducted, and a thematic analysis supported with NVivo software were used for analyzing qualitative data. Results: Of the 220 nurses invited, 173 completed the survey (79%). Most (78%) had a bachelor's degree in nursing. Fewer than half, 69 (40%) scored 75% or more for the knowledge test; 173 (100%) scored 50% or greater for attitude; and only 32 (18.5%) scored 75% or greater for self-reported practice. While there was a small, positive correlation between palliative care attitudes and self-reported practice (r = 0.22, p = 0.003), the qualitative findings indicated that nurses had significant challenges in translating their theoretical knowledge into clinical practice. Limited clinical practice was linked to inadequate knowledge resulting from insufficient integration of palliative care content in undergraduate curricula and a lack of follow-up training. This was further exacerbated by shortages of medicine, staff, and financial resources and was linked to limited attention accorded to palliative care by the government. Significance of results: While the results showed the majority held positive views toward palliative care, improving palliative care practices requires, and enhancing nurses' knowledge of palliative care. This requires changing teaching methods and engaging policymakers.

Abstract:Background: Ensuring ongoing first-aid training for primary healthcare providers (PHPs) is one of the critical strategies for providing quality health services and contributing to achieving universal health coverage. However, PHPs have received insufficient attention in terms of training and capacity building, especially in the remote areas of low-to-middle-income countries. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a first-aid training program for PHPs on a Vietnamese island and explored their perspectives and experiences regarding first-aid implementation. Methods: A mixed-methods study was conducted among 39 PHPs working in community healthcare centers. The quantitative method utilized a quasi-experimental design to evaluate participants' first-aid knowledge at three time points: pre-training, immediately post-training, and three months post-training. Sixteen of the PHPs participated in subsequent semi-structured focus group interviews using the qualitative method. Quantitative data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), while qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis. Results: The quantitative results showed a significant improvement in both the overall mean first-aid knowledge scores and the subdimensions of the first-aid knowledge scores among healthcare providers post-training. There was a statistically significant difference between the baseline and immediate posttest and follow-up knowledge scores (p < 0.001). However, the difference in knowledge scores between the immediate posttest and three-month follow-up was not significant (p > 0.05). Three main themes emerged from the focus group discussions: perception of first-aid in remote areas, facilitators and barriers. Participants identified barriers, including infrastructure limitations, shortage of the primary healthcare workforce, inadequate competencies, and insufficient resources. Conversely, receiving considerable support from colleagues and the benefits of communication technologies in implementing first aid were mentioned as facilitators. The training bolstered the participants' confidence in their first-aid responses, and there was a desire for continued education. Conclusions: Implementing periodic first-aid refresher training for PHPs in a nationwide resource-limited setting can contribute significantly to achieving universal health coverage goals. This approach potentially enhances the preparedness of healthcare providers in these areas to deliver timely and effective first aid during emergencies, which may lead to more consistent primary healthcare services despite various challenges.
Confidence in providing methadone maintenance treatment of primary care providers in Vietnam

Abstract:Background: Delivering methadone treatment in community health facilities by primary care providers is a task-shifting strategy to expand access to drug use treatment, especially in rural mountainous areas. This study aims to investigate factors related to confidence in providing methadone treatment among primary care providers in Vietnam to inform good practice development. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey with 276 primary care providers who were physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists or dispensing staff from 67 communes in a mountainous province in Northern Vietnam. Using self-report scales, we measured providers' confidence in providing methadone treatment, beliefs in harm reduction, perceived work-related support, perceived stigma and risk in working with drug-using patients, and empathy towards this population. We used multiple linear regression analyses to explore factors associated with providers' confidence in providing methadone treatment in the whole sample and to compare two groups of providers who did and did not have experience providing methadone. Potential associated factors were measured at facility and provider levels. Result: 114 (41.3%) participants had previously experience in providing methadone treatment. Providers with methadone treatment experiences had higher confidence in and more accurate knowledge of methadone treatment, perceived less stigma of working with drug-using patients, and reported more work-related support than those without experiences. Higher medical education is associated with lower confidence in providing methadone treatment among providers without methadone experiences, but higher confidence among providers with methadone experiences. Better methadone knowledge was associated with greater confidence in providing methadone treatment among inexperienced providers but not among those with experiences. Receiving work-related support was associated with greater confidence in providing treatment in both groups, regardless of their past methadone experiences. Conclusion: In rural provinces where methadone treatment has been expanded to primary care clinics, interventions to improve primary care providers' confidence should benefit professionals with diverse experiences in providing methadone treatment. Continued training and support at work for providers is essential to ensuring quality in decentralized methadone treatment.

METHODSWe conducted a prospective descriptive study of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's activities with the Vietnamese team between August 2023 and March 2024 and its impact on education, patient care and disseminating of MDC approach in Vietnam. RESULTSOnsite and online training were provided for the Vietnamese team during this time. The onsite training included exchange visits for both teams and St. Jude support for Vietnamese colleagues to attend regional and international neuro-oncology conferences. Online case discussions have been held every month from January 2024 and there are 40-60 participants each meeting from 5 main oncology centers in Vietnam. There are 3- 4 complex case discussions each meeting. A zalo group (a social media platform) for Vietnamese doctors (92 doctors) with multidisciplinary team members was established. After discussion, references and summaries of each case were distributed to the zalo group. For emergency cases, email consults are requested directly for timely input. In addition, key educational textbooks covering different disciplines of neuro-oncology (pathology, radiology and medical) were provided to different Vietnamese teams. All participants (92 doctors) found the online discussion (100.0%) benefical to further their knowledge in different fields (chemotherapy, radiation, pathology and surgery) and the outcome of consultations which guided teams to manage difficult cases. For some cases, pathology samples with local reports are sent to St. Jude to review the diagnosis and classification. CONCLUSIONSTraining plays an important role in bringing knowledge and building team-based experience for Vietnamese clinicians in the treatment for children with brain tumor.

Abstract:This study sought to evaluate how a training program on spiritual care affected physicians’ confidence, self-reported practice, and attitudes in caring for terminally ill cancer patients who express meaninglessness in living. Questionnaires were distributed to participating physicians before and after the training program. A total of 30 physicians completed the program. Confidence and self-reported practice regarding communication with terminally ill cancer patients who express meaninglessness significantly improved after the training: effect size, 1.3 (P=0.0001) and 1.2 (P=0.0001), respectively. Moreover, physician-reported helplessness significantly decreased (effect size, 0.8; P=0.0001) and positive appraisal and willingness to participate in caring for terminally ill cancer patients experiencing meaninglessness significantly improved (effect size, 0.8, P=0.0001; effect size, 0.4, P=0.0001, respectively). Overall, 96–100% of the participating physicians reported the program was useful for understanding the concept of spiritual care and for learning a practical approach for caring for such patients.

Abstract:Objectives: To evaluate a co-designed intervention using digital resources "Vietnam Cancer Caring Coping" (V-CCC) on the health literacy, depression, and quality of life of caregivers supporting a cancer patient in oncology hospitals in Vietnam. Methods: A pre-post quantitative evaluation with adult cancer caregivers across regional Oncology hospitals in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Hue). Participants completed baseline and follow-up measures of health literacy (HLS-SF12) depression (PHQ-9) and Health-related Quality of Life (5Q-5D-5L). Participants accessed and reviewed V-CCC for a 2-week period. Results: Two hundred and thirty-four caregivers completed pre and post-tests. Most participants were female (n = 143, 61%), married (n = 165, 70%), aged 18-44 (n = 155, 66%), lived rurally (n = 157, 67%). All health literacy scores of participants in post-intervention were significantly higher than that in pre-intervention across all domain's healthcare, disease prevention, and health promotion as well as the total score (p < 0.001). A significant reduction in the proportion of caregivers reporting PHQ-9 moderately severe/severe depression post-intervention was demonstrated (10.2 vs. 6.1%, respectively (p ≤ 0.001). No significant differences were observed pre and post-intervention across four 5Q-5D-5L health dimensions: mobility, self-care, usual activities, and pain/discomfort. Regarding anxiety/depression as measured by 5Q-5D-5L the proportion of participants who reported having moderate, severe, and extreme problems in pre- and post-intervention was statistically significant (32 vs. 24%), respectively (p = 0.0028). Conclusion: Co-designed digital resources can reduce health literacy inequities and improve psychological outcomes for cancer caregivers.

Abstract:Objectives: SARS-CoV-2 is a novel and highly infectious virus. An effective response requires rapid training of healthcare workers (HCWs). We measured the change in knowledge related to COVID-19 and associated factors before and after training of HCWs in Vietnam. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to evaluate HCW knowledge related to prevention and control of SARS-CoV-2 before and after attending a 2-day training-of-trainers course. Between June and September 2020, 963 HCWs from 194 hospitals in 21 provinces received the training. HCW knowledge was assessed using a 20-item questionnaire consisting of multiple-choice questions at the beginning and closing of the training course. A participant received 1 point for each correct answer. He or she was considered to have improved knowledge the posttest score was higher than the pretest score with a score ≥15 on the posttest. We applied the McNemar test and logistic regression model to test the level of association between demographic factors and change in knowledge of COVID-19. Results: Overall, 100% of HCWs completed both the pretest and posttest. At baseline, only 14.7% scored ≥15. Following the training, 78.4% scored ≥15 and 64.3% had improved knowledge according to the predetermined definition. Questions related to the order of PPE donning and doffing and respiratory specimen collection procedures were identified as having the greatest improvement (44.6% and 60.7%, respectively). Being female (OR, 1.5; 95% CI, 1.1–2.0), having a postgraduate degree (OR, 2.5; 95% CI, 1.4–4.4), working in a nonmanager position (OR, 1.5; 95% CI, 1.1–2.1), previous contact with a COVID-19 patient (OR, 1.5; 95% CI, 1.1–2.0), and working in northern Vietnam (OR, 2.0; 95% CI, 1.4–2.6), were associated with greater knowledge improvement. Conclusions: Most HCWs demonstrated improved knowledge of COVID-19 prevention and control after attending the training. Particular groups may benefit from additional training: those who are male, leaders and managers, those who hold an undergraduate degree, and those who work in the southern provinces.

Abstract:Journal of Palliative Care, Ahead of Print. Objective(s): The majority of deaths in Singapore (62.1%) occur in the hospital, but most nurses do not have palliative care (PC) education. An online e-learning course, "Essential Palliative Care Approach for Nurses" (EPAN), was developed to close the learning gap. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of EPAN on general nurses' knowledge, confidence, and attitude in delivering end-of-life care. Methods: Convergent parallel mixed methods design. Results: 1708 nurses (67%), mostly from inpatient and ambulatory settings, completed EPAN. Statistically significant increases in mean scores across knowledge, confidence, and attitude (p < 0.05) remained consistent immediately post-course and 3 months post-course. Respondents shared their intentions to change practice in the immediate post-course survey (n = 1155) and how they have practiced end-of-life care in the 3-month post-course survey (n = 777). Major categories from the content analysis included: (i) actualise confidence to deliver effective communication, (ii) making time and showing empathy in end-of-life care, (iii) advocating for end-of-life care, (iv) proactive collaboration with other healthcare professionals, (v) navigated and accepted end-of-life boundaries, and (vi) able to self-manage emotions. Conclusions: EPAN, developed within an Asian context, has demonstrated a significant impact on nurses' knowledge, confidence, and attitude in delivering end-of-life care. This has broader implications for general palliative care education in countries of similar cultural concerns.
