Abstract:Phonon-assisted tunneling (PhAT) model is applied for explication of temperature-dependent conductivity and I-V characteristics measured by various investigators for graphene nanoribbons and oxides ones. Proposed model describes well not only current dependence on temperature but also the temperature-dependent I-V data using the same set of parameters characterizing material under investigation. The values of active phonons energy and field strength for tunneling are estimated from the fit of current dependence on temperature and I-V/T data with the phonon-assisted tunneling theory.

Abstract:Esports is a strong phenomenon, especially in the world of children, youth, and youth. This study aims to contribute new ideas, ideas, and perspectives in the debate on Esports discourse in the world of sports, as well as in order to raise the awareness of sports academics to study more deeply about esports from various points of view of sports science. The research method used is library research. Data collection techniques by conducting a review study of books, literature, notes, journals and reports. Judging from the three main elements in sports, physical, competition and institutional, Esports cannot be identified as a sport mainly because of the physical activity missing in Esports. Although the movements that look amazing cannot be ascribed to Esports players, they require some motor skills in playing the game including hand-eye coordination and speed of action with strategic and tactical understanding but that is still considered lacking and still far from being a sport. Besides that, there is an element of addiction and symptoms of lack of movement, if you play video games too often, it is also a consideration in determining Esports as a sport. It is necessary for the role of various stakeholders and appropriate government institutions to handle esports so that they can develop and contribute as expected

Abstract:Abstract Whether esports can be considered a sport is highly debated. The German Olympic Sport Federation (DOSB) and the German Society for Sport Sciences (DVS) recently stated that esports should not be integrated into the canon of sport. Our aim is not to further fuel this debate but rather to argue that to be or not to be sport is not the most important question from a scientific perspective. After summarizing the current discussion on whether esports constitute a sport, this paper discusses why and how sport and exercise psychology (SEP), in particular, could research esports. To exploit research opportunities in esports, such as adapting validated methods and testing existing models, scholars in SEP could examine the aspects arising from its positional stance. We argue that the potential of SEP approaches, models, and methods, positions it well to play an important role in research on esports. The present perspective provides a starting point for a constructive discourse on the development of SEP and the potential for its role in esports research.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is to add to the conceptual discussion on eSport, analyze the role of eSport within sport management, and suggest avenues for future eSport research. The authors suggest that debates surround the degree to which eSport represents formal sport, and disagreements likely stem from conceptualizations of sport and context. Irrespective of one’s notion of eSport as formal sport, the authors suggest the topic has a place in sport management scholarship and discourse. Such a position is consistent with the broad view of sport adopted by Sport Management Review, the perspective that eSport represents a form of sportification, and the association among eSport and various outcomes, including physical and psychological health, social well-being, sport consumption outcomes, and diversity and inclusion. Finally, the authors conclude that eSport scholarship can advance through the study of its governance, marketing, and management as well as by theorizing about eSport.

Abstract:The field of eSports is undergoing a process of developing and evolving with irresistible forces. The process witnesses the ever-refreshing and hybrid meanings and definitions of Sports and eSports in the digital era of technology empowerment and advancing artificial intelligence. This paper calls us to re-construct the meanings and sporting values of eSports, re-evaluate the eSports landscape, going beyond the debate 'Are eSports Sports?' and move to re-examine the contextual nature and values of Sports and eSports, as well as their interweaving relationships in contemporary society. It is of significance to explore the way in which the intelligent embodiment of eSports and the virtualisation of traditional sports integrate with each other, offering the potential for fitness and physical exercises and practices in real and virtual spaces. Meanwhile, crucial digital ethics issues are emerging in the field of eSports, potentially challenging and alerting the eSports industry to take timely measurements to maintain the Sport's integrity.

Abstract:This research presents a comprehensive analysis of the psychological and social impacts of participation in eSports, a global phenomenon that has enriched sports culture. Through a literature review approach, this research explores player motivation, online identity, and the mental health impact of playing intensity. In addition, the research integrates cross-cultural dimensions, discussing the interaction of eSports with cultural values in various societies. The results provide deep insights into the complexity of individuals' experiences of eSports and the central role of online communities in shaping social identities. While this research makes important contributions, the limitations of limited primary data, publication age, and cultural representation must be acknowledged. In conclusion, this research underscores that eSports is not only a growing e-sports phenomenon, but also a significant cultural force, shaping norms and values in contemporary sports culture. This research provides a basis for further understanding and points the way for future research that can broaden the scope and deepen the analysis of the impact of eSports on global sports culture.

Abstract:Contemporary sport is becoming more and more commercialized, hence the players strive to win at all costs, and to achieve this goal, they consider all means to be allowed. In order to be constantly on top, competitors change their training methods, use various aids, and finally direct their interests towards doping. Doping is considered to be the use of substances and all means intended to artificially increase physical fitness during sports competitions, which may be harmful to the ethics of sport or cause mental and physical harm to athletes. The aim of the research is to assess the knowledge of the problem and attitudes of young people practicing sports games towards the dangers of doping. Assessment of knowledge on the effects of the use of illicit means, and analysis of opinion on the use of doping and strengthening mechanisms for the adoption of pharmacological agents. Research on the knowledge about the use of support measures and doping in sport was carried out among talented youth practicing team sports games in randomly selected clubs of Małopolska, Silesia, Podkarpacie and Opole. Continuation studies were conducted in 2018-2020, they covered 60 girls and 60 boys, aged 16 years. The research was carried out using a questionnaire, the questions of which concerned the following problems: knowledge of the essence of sports doping, the relationship between doping and the principle of fair play in sport, support used in physical recreation, reasons for the use of doping, moral and criminal liability in the use of doping. When analyzing the results of the research, it should be noted that the use of doping in sport is negatively perceived by the examined youth. However, it can be assumed that the knowledge about the support and the problem of doping in sport is insufficient. Setting the main goal - sports success and the related financial rewards, as well as the willingness to be the best in the opinion of the respondents may narrow the boundaries, which may facilitate the decision to use support and doping. These observations seem to be very disturbing, as the analysis of research data concerns young people practicing sports at the stage of education and the utilitarian nature of physical activity.

However, despite growth and acceptance by consumers and practitioners, academics debate eSport’s position within the domain of sport management, their debates largely concentrated around the question of whether eSport can be classified as sport. In this article, the authors argue for the inclusion of organized eSport events and competitions within sport management vis-à-vis eSport’s meeting certain defining criteria of sport in general. eSport’s connection to traditional sport and defining characteristics are addressed to support eSport’s role as a sport entertainment product recognized by industry as representing a substantial growth opportunity for sport and related organizations. As eSport continues to evolve, practitioners face managerial challenges that are similar to those in traditional sport, particularly in areas of governance and diversity. Sport management academics should embrace the potential of eSport in order to examine this evolution and provide guidance to industry through education and research.

Abstract:Cybersport is developing rapidly in all developed regions of the world. Currently, eSports has acquired the characteristics of an important economic and socio-cultural factor that needs to be taken seriously. Accordingly, there is an urgent need to regulate social relations within its boundaries. This article is devoted to the analysis of the current state of economic and legal relations in the field of e-sports activities and the search for optimal ways of their improvement. The subject of the study is social relations arising in the field of e-sports. The research methodology includes the basic methods of scientific knowledge, which are the methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as the comparative legal method, which was used to compare the researched aspects in Switzerland and Ukraine. As a result of the research, a number of conclusions were made, which are important for law enforcement activities, can be used in rulemaking activities, and are also valuable from the point of view of the development of economic and legal doctrine. Abstract:International Review for the Sociology of Sport, Ahead of Print. The role of the body is a common topic for discussions concerning competitive gaming, also known as electronic sport (esport). In esport, the focus on the body shifts from its physical presence towards digitality and therefore differs significantly compared to traditional sports. It is therefore questionable whether disciplinary mechanisms typical for sport that originate from the physical body being surveyed can be observed in competitive gaming as well. This conceptual paper uses Michel Foucault's concept of panopticism to theorize what consequences of deviant or normative behaviour can be derived from a (partially) absent physical corporeality in esport. Our approach reveals that esport and competitive gaming are lacking disciplinary mechanisms typical for traditional sports. We introduce the term dysopticon as a concept where players are not exposed to surveillance like in traditional sports, because of a perceived absence of the players' physical bodies while competing. This can result in arbitrariness and deviant behaviour but also be an opportunity for inclusion or self-expression regardless of hegemonic corporeal norms and standards. Stakeholders, including players, clubs, associations, and corporations, can build upon these insights to develop and promote esport beneficially for sport and society.

Morality in sport: The coach's perspective

Abstract:Literature in the field of sport has noted that coaches can be major contributors to the moral tone held in the sport environment and athletes are receptive to the moral frame provided by the coach. At the same time, coaches' perspectives of morality have been associated with the way coaches face moral issues that arise in the field. Therefore, the present study aimed at extending previous research seeking to illuminate the coach's perspectives of morality by (a) exploring coaches' perspectives of morality; (b) analysing coaches' responses in light of previous evidence; and (c) discussing the theoretical and practical implications of evidence. The present pilot study was designed as a qualitative multiple case study. Participants were six coaches ( Mage = 46.5; SD = 7.6), who had extended sport involvement, underwent required coaching education and were coaching at the time of the interview. Case 1 was represented by three females coaching an artistic individual sport and case 2 was represented by three males coaching an interactive team sport. Thematic data analysis was conducted. Results indicated that coaches found it difficult to articulate a definition of morality; though they did describe it as an ongoing learning process, context-related, that entailed reciprocity, and therefore, required permanent interchange, co-creation, negotiation and adjustment. The coaches also identified two main perspectives of morality: the moral perspective (i.e. being able to differentiate what is right from what is wrong, doing what is right and considering self-related wellbeing) and the social perspective (i.e. sport involvement and team dynamics). Extrapolating the evidence from this study may suggest that coaches could benefit from moral education interventions, which may then translate to a reduction in or prevention of undesired consequences associated with encompassing moral behaviour.

Abstract:The purpose of this manuscript includes the materialization of a theoretical, critical and dialectical construct that addresses gaming and the rise of e-sports in the socio-cultural reality of the modern era. With a sophisticated approach; realizes the different dimensions that make up the category addressed; auscultating the necessary elements, which eventually raised the practice with video games to the challenges of e-sports; where it's not just about recreation; competition, profit and sports dynamics are also found. The article is of the documentary type, with bibliographic design, in which the bibliographic method and the documentary research technique were applied, in the analysis and interpretation of the files selected for this purpose. After an in-depth discussion, results of interest to the sciences were achieved: social, sports and even information; because the physical, neurological and strategic effort exerted by the gamers is reasonably described as team members formally recognized by the communities allied to that industry. Finally, it could be concluded that given its characteristics and potentialities; it can be qualified as a sport discipline to practice with online video games (e-sports); where multiple video players compete for success in virtual reality, which would give rise to the projection of their professional athletic profile, financial enrichment and worldwide fame.

Abstract:This study investigates the role of cultural and economic factors in the development and perception of eSports, particularly examining how these elements influence its recognition as a legitimate sport and the redefinition of athleticism. A quantitative methodology was employed, involving a survey of 20 members from a gaming club in an educational institution. The survey revealed gender-based differences in the perception of eSports, notably in the economic impact, with female participants attributing greater significance to this aspect than their male counterparts. However, there was consensus across genders regarding eSports cultural significance and legitimacy as a sport. The findings indicate a predominant influence of cultural factors in shaping the perception of eSports, overshadowing economic aspects, a contrast to traditional sports where economic considerations often play a pivotal role. The study contributes to understanding the intricate dynamics within the eSports domain, providing insights for stakeholders in shaping policies and marketing strategies.

Abstract:Abstract The present paper provides an overview of the possible risks, harms, and challenges that might arise with the development of the esports field and pose a threat to professional esports players, spectators, bettors and videogame players, including underage players. These include physical and mental health issues, gambling and gambling-like elements associated with videogames and esports, the challenges arising from pursuing a career in esports, the unique difficulties women face, and a need for supporting professional esports players. It briefly discusses possible responses and suggestions regarding how to address and mitigate these negative consequences. It emphasizes the need for cooperation and collaboration between various stakeholders: researchers, policymakers, regulators, the gaming industry, esports organizations, healthcare and treatment providers, educational institutes and the need for further evidence-based information.

Its main objective is to look into the senses and meanings of sports cyberculture for the social actors that make up the e-sports universe. Thus, in a qualitative approach, the semi-structured interview technique was used with 2 cyberathletes and 1 streamer, all professionals. The results show that sports cyberculture is appropriated by these social actors with expectations for career building, taking into account the growth of both the modality and its audience amidst perceptions and experiences of prejudice. It is concluded that sports cyberculture produces and reflects practices, attitudes and values that are similar to the traditional way of experiencing sports, reproducing stereotypes and prejudices, dreams of social ascension, and professionalization prospects.

Abstract:This study aims to compare physical activity levels, esports-specific reaction times, self-evaluated health, and injuries between non-professional esports players (EPs) and non-players (NPs). Participants were healthy, with an average age of 22.7 ± 2.49 years and BMI of 25.5 ± 4.95 kg/m2. Physical activity was quantified using the Baecke Questionnaire, while reaction times were measured with computer games. The analysis reveals that EPs exhibit significantly lower levels of physical activity compared to NPs (p < 0.05), underscoring the sedentary nature of esports. Despite this, EPs demonstrate superior reaction times (p < 0.001), suggesting cognitive enhancements associated with esports participation. EPs report increased incidences of gameplay-related discomfort (p = 0.025), highlighting health drawbacks of prolonged gaming. However, no significant differences were observed in overall self-evaluated health statuses and specific pain complaints between the groups, indicating a complex relationship between esports involvement and perceived health outcomes. These findings suggest that esports can offer cognitive benefits through improved reaction times but are also associated with reduced physical activity and increased reporting of discomfort. This dichotomy underscores the need for strategies that capitalize on the cognitive advantages of esports while mitigating its physical health risks, encouraging a more balanced engagement with the activity.

Managing the health of the eSport athlete: an integrated health management model

Abstract:Objectives eSport is a form of electronic gaming, also known as professional or competitive video gaming, and is growing at a rapid pace worldwide. Over 50 US colleges have established varsity gaming teams over the past three years; some colleges offer eSport scholarships as they do for traditional sports. There is little objective research on the health habits of these players who are often placed under the direction of the athletics department on college campuses, and there is currently no health management model on how to treat these new athletes. Methods Anonymous electronic surveys were sent to 65 collegiate eSport players from nine universities across the USA and Canada inquiring about gaming and lifestyle habits, and musculoskeletal complaints due to eSport competition. Results Players practiced between 3 and 10 hours per day. The most frequently reported complaint was eye fatigue (56%), followed by neck and back pain (42%). eSport athletes reported wrist pain (36%) and hand pain (32%). Forty per cent of participants do not participate in any form of physical exercise. Among the players surveyed, only 2% had sought medical attention. Conclusion eSport players, just like athletes in traditional sports, are susceptible to overuse injuries. The most common complaint was eye fatigue, followed by neck and back pain. This study shows eSport athletes are also prone to wrist and hand pain. This paper proposes a health management model that offers a comprehensive medical team approach to prevent and treat eSport athletes.

Abstract:Introduction Mental health is a crucial component of overall well-being for everyone, and it becomes particularly important in the context of young student-athletes who must simultaneously meet educational and athletic challenges. Athletes, like their peers, struggle with various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, sleep deficits, burnout, and overtraining. The additional activity of engaging in competitive sports, compared to those who do not, can exacerbate these symptoms. The aim of study Identify and analyze specific sources of stress and mental health issues among young student-athletes and young individuals. Compare different research groups. Conclusion Student-athletes face the unique challenge of balancing intense training and sports competitions with educational demands. The constant pursuit of peak performance and coping with high expectations can lead to significant psychological stress. Factors such as injuries, overtraining, social identity issues, and sleep problems further impact their mental health, often leading to the development or worsening of existing mental health issues. It is important to note that professional psychological care is essential in managing the training schedule of a young athlete. For their development to be balanced across various dimensions such as proper physical growth, well-being, and mental wellness, this support is crucial.

Abstract:This paper examines in-real-life (irl) sport and eSports in an attempt to clarify the definition of eSport. The notion of physicality and embodiment are central to the need for clarity in understanding of what eSports are and whether they are sport or some other activity. By examining existing definitions of eSport and irlSport we can identify the similarities and differences between these activities. Methodologically the paper uses the philosophical process of critical thinking and analysis to examine the various approaches taken to defining both eSport and irlSports. Our aim is to highlight the inherent problem of the definition of eSports and irlSports (and the privileging of the term sport as it currently applies only to irlSports). We find that eSports are sports and that the definition of sport should be expanded to include sub-categories of irlSports and eSports.

Abstract:Cyber athletes are affected by a number of threatening factors. Against the background of the growing popularity of e-sports among students of higher educational institutions, the question of the impact of e-sports on their health is becoming more and more relevant. The purpose of the study is to investigate the negative factors and check the impact of e-sports on the health of higher education students. The survey was conducted online using Google Forms. It lasted from January 20 to June 6, 2023 and involved 111 higher education students. The fact that e sports is much more popular among male students compared to female students was confirmed by previous analysis. Therefore, the questionnaires of 46 students were selected for further research, 27 of which were engaged in e-sports and 19 did not show a particular interest in such activity or did not play computer games at all. The results. To assess the impact of e-sports activities on players’ health, we compared student survey results based on their e-sports activities. It was established that, despite the absence of statistically significant differences (p>0.05), under the influence of e-sports, students have a tendency to disorders of the musculoskeletal system, increased muscle pain, and impaired vision. Under the influence of e-sports, the risk of psycho-emotional problems increases statistically (p<0.05). It has been proven that the most dangerous factors of negative impact on the health of e-sportsmen are constant interaction with the monitor, prolonged stay in a static position while sitting at the computer, violation of the ergonomically optimal posture of the PC user, as well as violation of the balance between e-sports and other types of activities, which causes psycho-emotional disorders. It was established that there are statistically significant (p<0.05) differences between the frequency of cases when e-sports players lead a passive lifestyle or devote less time to healthrecreational physical activity compared to students who do not engage in e-sports. Conclusions. The reduced level of physical activity of higher education students engaged in e-sports can increase the effect of negative factors.
