Abstract:In recent years, the overexploitation of groundwater accompanied by a significant climatic shift has placed a burden on the world's groundwater supply. This has generated a rising need for potential groundwater zones. In recent year the ever-increasing demand for potable water across the world for various groundwater exploration investigation. The present study explores the utility of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) to identify potential water zones in the dry deciduous forest area of Dediapada Taluka, Narmada District, Gujarat, India. Twelve thematic layers of different environmental variables including geology, geomorphology, land use/land cover (LULC), drainage density, lineament density, rainfall, soil, slope, roughness, topographic wetness index (TWI), topographic position index (TPI), and curvature were integrated. GIS mode was subjected to weight analysis using Saaty's 9-point scale. The result was normalized using analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and five distinct groundwater potential zones (GWPZs) were identified namely very high, high, moderate, low, and very low. The area occupied by each category was 6.52%, 3.1%, 60.1%, 14.32%, and 15.99%. The output aids in validation assessment with the existing well data. The groundwater potential zones maps generated using AHP technique can prove beneficial for designing strategies for water management for the present taluka and can be extended to the different talukas also.

Abstract:Groundwater, the most vital natural resource, plays an important role in meeting the sustainable part of domestic, agriculture, and industrial needs of any country. The management of groundwater resources is a major challenging issue being faced by scientists, planners, and managers of the world. In this connection, a systematic study of groundwater potential zones and proper strategy for its management is urgently required. The present research is focused to demarcate the different zones of groundwater potential and sites suitable for water conservation structures by using remote sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) in the part of Central India. To achieve the goal of the research, the geospatial technique is applied to prepare a different thematic map of each influencing factor such as geology, geomorphology, soil, lineament density, drainage density, land use/land cover, and slope. The weightage and rank are assigned for various thematic layers as per their influences to recharge the aquifer. From overall results, the groundwater potential zone map has prepared and classified into high (8%) moderate (67%) and low potential zone (25%). A validation of the result is carried out by randomly selecting different dug wells present in the research area. The yield of dug wells supports the findings of the study. To manage the groundwater resources, various artificial recharge structures are suggested. The findings and suggestions of the study would be very helpful for improving the groundwater resources (quality as well as quantity) and development of the area.

Abstract:Over-exploitation of groundwater and marked changes in climate over the years have imposed immense pressure on the global groundwater resources. As demand of potable water increases across the globe for human consumption, agriculture and industrial uses, the need to evaluate the groundwater potential and productivity of aquifers also increases. In the recent years, geographic information system based studies have gained much prominence in groundwater exploration because it is rapid and will provide first - hand information on the resource for further developments. Therefore, the present study has been undertaken with an objective to delineate the groundwater potential of a small tropical river basin located in the western side of the Western Ghats in India as an example. A combination of geographical information system and analytical hierarchical process techniques (AHP) was used in the present study. A total of 12 thematic layers such as Geology, Geomorphology, Land Use/Land Cover, Lineament density, Drainage density, Rainfall, Soil, Slope, Roughness, Topographic Wetness Index, Topographic Position Index and Curvature were prepared and studied for groundwater potential zone demarcation. Weights assigned to each class in all the thematic maps are based on their characteristics and water potential capacity through AHP method. The accuracy of the output was cross-validated with information on groundwater prospects of the area and the overall accuracy of the method comes to around 85%. The groundwater potential zone map thus obtained was categorized into five classes-very high, high, moderate, low and very low. The study reveals that about 59% of the river basin is covered under moderate groundwater potential zone. The low and high groundwater potential zones are observed in 29% and 11% respectively. Area under very high and very low potential zones are recorded only in very limited areas in the basin.

Abstract:Groundwater resources are essential for drinking water, irrigation, and the economy mainly in semiarid environments where rainfall is limited. Currently, unpredictable rainfall due to climate change and pollution on the Earth's surface directly affects groundwater resources. In this area, most people depend on groundwater resources for irrigation and drinking purposes, and every summer, most of the area depends on groundwater in a semiarid environment. Hence, we selected two popular methods, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and multiple influence factor (MIF) methods, which can be applied to map groundwater potential zones. Nine thematic layers, such as land use and land cover (LULC), geomorphology, soil, drainage density, slope, lineament density, elevation, groundwater level, and geology maps, were selected for this study using remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) techniques. These layers are integrated in ArcGIS 10.5 software with the help of the AHP and MIF methods. The map of the groundwater potential zones in the study area revealed four classes, i.e., poor, moderate, good, and very good, based on the AHP and MF methods. The groundwater potential zone area is 241.50 (ha) Poor, 285.64 (ha) moderate, 408.31 (ha) good, and 92.75 (ha) very good using the AHP method. Similarly, the MIF method revealed that the groundwater potential classes were divided into four classes: 351.29 (ha) poor, 511.18 (ha), moderate, 123.95 (ha) good, and 41.78 (ha) very good. The results were compared to determine which methods are best for planning water and land resource development in specific areas that have basaltic rock and drought conditions. Both groundwater potential zone maps were validated with water yield data. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) model results are found to be 0.80 (good) and 0.93 (excellent) using the MIF and AHP methods, respectively; hence, the AHP method is best for delineation of groundwater potential zone maps and groundwater resource planning. The present study's framework and the results will be valuable for improving the efficiency of irrigation, conserving rainwater and maintaining the ecosystem in India.

Abstract:The present research work accentuates the hydrogeological evaluation for Devdari watershed of Maharashtra, Central India, using remote sensing, GIS, and multi influencing factor (MIF). The thematic layers of land use/land cover, groundwater depth, slope, drainage, flow direction, flow accumulation and geomorphology were prepared using IRS-LISS-III satellite data coupled with Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data on 23.50 and 30 m spatial resolution, respectively. The raster layers of these themes were estimated by employing ArcGIS software 10.3 and multi-influencing factor method and subsequently assigned with the relative weights as per their groundwater potential characteristics. For acknowledgement of the groundwater potential map, all the thematic layers and their respective weightage values were subjected to weighted overlay analysis (WOA) method. The evolved map demonstrates six groundwater potential zones in the study area, i.e., poor to nil (0.27 km2), very poor (0.95 km2), poor (17.67 km2), moderate (0.33 km2), good (9.51 km2), very good (14.665 km2) and excellent (1.84 km2). A field check survey was carried out to ascertain the validity of groundwater potential maps. The results of study area disclose that the area of watershed with poor, moderate and good-to-excellent groundwater potential zones is evaluated to allow precipitated water to infiltrate into subsurface and finally contribute to groundwater recharge in the watershed area.

Abstract:Abstract Total natural and groundwater resources play the most crucial role in developing ecological, biological and socioeconomic doings. Various parameters like land use, geology, elevation, slope, lineament, lineament density, drainage density and geomorphology affect the groundwater development of recharge and its accessibility. In this research, geographical information system (GIS), remote sensing, weighted overlay analysis and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) methods have been used for groundwater prospects mapping, and identifying suitable solutions site for soil and water conservation structures. To calculate the weights were assigned to every layers component in the determination of affecting factors. The weighted overlay analysis (WOA) tool is applied to give the sub-parameter ratings based on the scientific literature. The final map of potential groundwater zone map has prepared using Arc GIS 10.1 software and AHP methods. About 49.71% of the areas fall under the 'good potential zone, 41.05% falls under the 'moderate potential zone', and 9.22% falls under the 'poor zone by using AHP technique. Groundwater potential zone map is depend on the weighted overlay analysis and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) methods. The highest GWP is located in the lower part of the basin due to the best surface runoff gathering, infiltration situations and subsurface storage volume. The present study procedure, methods and outcomes can be valuable to estimate the suitable groundwater zones parallel to improve the dry land area in the semi-arid and arid regions of India.

Abstract:Groundwater is unevenly distributed and limited in hard rock terrains. The study has been carried out using remote sensing and GIS to delineate the potential recharge zones of groundwater in upper Betwa watershed, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, India. The different thematic layers viz; geology, lineament density, soil, slope, land use/land cover (LU/LC) and drainage density were prepared for assessment of groundwater recharge potential in the area. District Resource Map (DRM) of Geological Survey of India (GSI) 2002 has been used for geological study. SRTM Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was used to obtain the slope. LANDSAT-8 OLI data has been processed for lineament density and LU/LC analysis. Survey of India toposheets were used for drainage density analyses and National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning Nagpur (NBSS&LUP) map used for soil study. Weightage has been given to parameters in thematic maps as per the relative influence of each parameter in the groundwater recharge. Rating to each class of parameters was given as per there relative significance in groundwater recharge. Finally, groundwater recharge potential map has been prepared by overlaying all thematic maps in terms of the weighted index overlay (WIO) method. The output map has been further classified into three zones (i) low ground-water potential zone (121.80 km2) (ii) moderate groundwater potential zone (387.78 km2) and (iii) high groundwater potential zone (173.35 km2). The output results were validated by plotting the specific yield data and groundwater level of selected wells in delineated groundwater recharge potential zones using GPS locations. It has been seen that most of the groundwater productive wells functioning in the area is falling in high and moderate groundwater recharge potential zone.

Abstract:Abstract Groundwater management requires a systematic approach since it is crucial to the long-term viability of livelihoods and regional economies all over the world. There is insufficient groundwater management and difficulties in storage plans as a result of increased population, fast urbanisation, and climate change, as well as unpredictability in rainfall frequency and intensity. Groundwater exploration using remote sensing (RS) data and geographic information system (GIS) has become a breakthrough in groundwater research, assisting in the assessment, monitoring, and conservation of groundwater resources. The study region is the Mand catchment of the Mahanadi basin, covering 5332.07 km 2 and is located between 21°42′15.525′′N and 23°4′19.746′′N latitude and 82°50′54.503′′E and 83°36′1.295′′E longitude in Chhattisgarh, India. The research comprises the generation of thematic maps, delineation of groundwater potential zones and the recommendation of structures for efficiently and successfully recharging groundwater utilising RS and GIS. Groundwater Potential Zones (GPZs) were identified with nine thematic layers using RS, GIS, and the Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) method. Satty's Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to rank the nine parameters that were chosen. The generated GPZs map indicated regions with very low, low to medium, medium to high, and very high groundwater potential encompassing 962.44 km 2 , 2019.92 km 2 , 969.19 km 2 , and 1380.42 km 2 of the study region, respectively. The GPZs map was found to be very accurate when compared with the groundwater fluctuation map, and it is used to manage groundwater resources in the Mand catchment. The runoff of the study area can be accommodated by the computing subsurface storage capacity, which will raise groundwater levels in the low and low to medium GPZs. According to the study results, various groundwater recharge structures such as farm ponds, check dams and percolation tanks were suggested in appropriate locations of the Mand catchment to boost groundwater conditions and meet the shortage of water resources in agriculture and domestic use. This study demonstrates that the integration of GIS can provide an efficient and effective platform for convergent analysis of various data sets for groundwater management and planning.

Abstract:In the recent past, the growing climate change and transformation of the green cover into urban areas have posed a threat to natural water supply, which will have a direct impact on water demand for emerging cities such as Nava Raipur. As a result, the increasing demand coupled with the reduced availability of surface water prompts scientific investigation into groundwater availability and its sustainable management as an alternative. The study attempted to determine groundwater potential zones using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and multi-influencing factor (MIF) techniques. Twelve contextually significant regulating environmental factors were selected, and their significance and influences on decision-making approaches models have been attempted to determine through the sensitivity analysis. The final GWPZ map obtained, from a combination of thematic layers, was verified using the receiver operating curve (ROC) and the area under curve (AUC) with discharge (yield) records taken from 21 bore wells. According to the ROC curve's AUC estimation, MIF can explain 82.9% of the actual groundwater situation in the region, and for AHP, an AUC value of 0.751 is relatively low. This indicates that the MIF model is the most appropriate to accurately define potential groundwater zones for emerging cities like Nava Raipur.

Abstract:In the present paper, various groundwater potential zones for the assessment of groundwater availability in Keleghai river basin have been delineated using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) techniques. Survey of India (SOI) toposheets, field observations and satellite imageries are used to prepare various thematic layers viz. (a) drainage density, (b) geomorphology, (c) lineament density, (d) land use/land cover, (e) soil type, (f) water bodies density, (g) normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), (h) slope and (i) mean annual rainfall were transformed to raster data using feature to raster converter tool in ArcGIS platform. The thematic maps have been ranked in a scale of 1–9 depending upon their suitability to hold groundwater. The rank of each map has been converted to a probability weight using Bayesian Decision Theory. Similarly, different categories of derived thematic maps were assigned scores in a numeric scale 1–9, depending upon their capability to store and transmit water. These scores were again converted capability values. Abstract:Worldwide, the ever-increasing population and urbanization have put tremendous pressure on groundwater (GW). It has provoked the over-exploitation of groundwater and hindered the percolation of rainwater beneath the earth's surface in another way. The uncertainty of rainfall occurrence and over-exploitation of groundwater created the problem of water scarcity and decreased groundwater height significantly in the hard rock-dominated semi-arid regions. This study is designed to delineate groundwater potential zone (GWPZ) in the hard-rock terrain controlled Bankura district of West Bengal with the help of a knowledge-driven statistical technique, analytical hierarchy process (AHP), in remote sensing and GIS environment. The GWPZ map has been prepared by compiling nine groundwater controlling parameters: geology, geomorphology, slope, land use–land cover (LULC), rainfall, drainage density, soil texture, topographical wetness index (TWI) and lineament density. Among all the parameters, rainfall, geology, slope and LULC have played a dominant role in groundwater availability in the Bankura district, and the weightage of these parameters is 0.28, 0.20, 0.14 and 0.11, respectively. These four layers have facilitated to accumulation of groundwater potentiality in the Bankura district and surroundings. Our study of the GWPZ map revealed that 13.36, 33.80, 21.05, 19.02 and 12.77% of the area of the Bankura district is under very good, good, moderate, poor and very poor condition, respectively, for targeting GW in the future. Very high to high groundwater yielding spots are observed in valley fills, flood plains, vegetation-covered areas, agricultural land and low-lying areas of the study area. The result is evaluated by employing the receiver operation characteristics (ROC) and area under curve (AUC) technique using the well's yield groundwater data, and this value (0.757) also displayed the reliability of this work. However, the GWPZ map of the hard rock-dominated Bankura district has been delineated successfully; the findings of this study can be useful to the planners, engineers and policymakers for proper utilization, evaluation and management of groundwater in this water-scarce semi-arid region to ensure its sustainable development.

Abstract:The study aims at delineating groundwater potential zones using geospatial technology and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) techniques in mining impacted hard rock terrain of Ramgarh and part of Hazaribagh districts, Jharkhand, India. Relevant thematic layers were prepared and assigned weight based on Saaty’s 9-point scale and normalized by eigenvector technique of AHP to identify groundwater prospect in the study area. The weighted linear combination method was applied to prepare the groundwater potential index in geographic information system. Final groundwater prospects were classified as excellent, very good, good, moderate, poor and very poor groundwater potential zones. Study thus revealed that the excellent, very good and good groundwater potential zones, respectively, cover 148.3, 373.66 and 438.86 km2 of the study area, whereas the poor groundwater potential zone covers 180.05 km2. Validation was done through a receiver operating characteristic curve, which indicated that AHP had good prediction accuracy (AUC = 75.45%).

Abstract:The sustainable management of water relies heavily on groundwater resources, and an important aspect of their effective utilization is artificial recharge. In the specific case of the Murredu watershed in India, a comprehensive approach is proposed in this research, integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques. The aim is to delineate groundwater potential zones (GWPZs) and identify suitable locations for artificial recharge. Several thematic layers, such as slope, drainage density, geomorphology, land use land cover (LULC), curvature, soil, topographic wetness index (TWI), rainfall, distance from the river, and elevation, were considered in this study. To ascertain the relative importance of these thematic maps in influencing groundwater availability and recharge, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy-AHP techniques were employed to assign weights. Utilizing a weighted overlay technique within a GIS environment, the GWPZs map was generated. Within the study area, the GWPZs were categorised as poor, moderate, and high based on the AHP and Fuzzy-AHP models. According to the AHP model, 14.93% of the GWPZs in the region were classified as poor, 73.53% as moderate, and 11.54% as high. On the other hand, the Fuzzy-AHP model classified 14.02% as poor, 76.55% as moderate, and 9.44% as high. The accuracy of these classifications was verified using the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and area under the curve (AUC), resulting in accuracy rates of 71.4% for AHP and 77.6% for Fuzzy-AHP. Additionally, the study employed RS and GIS techniques to develop a map by overlaying the drainage density and lineament density maps. This approach helped identify 126 potential sites for artificial recharge based on the best-performing Fuzzy-AHP model. The insights gained from this study facilitate the sustainable management and planning of groundwater resources, ensuring their availability and sustainability for future generations.

Abstract:An approach has been made in this study to delineate the groundwater potential zones of the Varuna river basin, Uttar Pradesh, India, using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and multi-influence factor (MIF) techniques. The present groundwater estimation exhibits an increase in the draft (10%) due to expansion in population, agricultural extent, and industrialization, which ultimately causes water table depletion. This backdrop justifies the need for this particular analysis in the multilayer aquifers of the central alluvial zone. The shallow aquifers are silty and unconfined, whereas the deeper aquifers are coarse, sandy-gravelly, and semi-confined. Basement faults and highs often control the thickness of aquifers in the subsurface. The study considered an integrated approach of AHP and MIF methods with remote sensing and GIS approaches. Various themes (land use/land cover (LULC), soil type, geology, elevation, slope, rainfall, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), drainage density, recharge rate, groundwater depth) determined by considering different conditioning factors and eventually employed for computation of groundwater potential index (GWPI) and classified for identifying the groundwater potential zones (GWPZ). Two methods applied to capture the results in a more tangible form as the AHP model works on building a pair-wise comparison matrix to relate conditioning factors to each other. Still, the MIF model considered interrelations among the conditioning factors. The GWPZ of the study area generates with overlay weighted sum method by integrating all thematic layers. The resulting groundwater potential index map is categorized into three groundwater potential zones, namely good, moderate, and poor. Ultimately, by constructing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for both the groundwater potential models, determine the efficiency of performances and the GWPZ map validated using yield data collected from wells scattered over the study area. The findings of the present paper have important implications for ensuring exploration and sustainability groundwater plans in that particular area.

Abstract:Groundwater is crucial for agriculture, domestic use, and industry. This study represents groundwater potential zones in the Amravati district, Maharashtra, India, using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and multi-influencing factor (MIF) techniques. These techniques are employed for a detailed spatial analysis, which is essential for sustainable groundwater management. The study integrates data layers including lithology, geomorphology, land use/land cover, drainage density, lineament density, rainfall, soil, elevation, and slope to evaluate the groundwater potential. The resulting groundwater potential map classifies the area into five categories: poor, fair, moderate, good, and excellent based on groundwater availability. The study reveals that 9% of the area has poor groundwater potential, 37% fair, 28% moderate, 13% good, and 13% excellent. This map is instrumental for stakeholders and policymakers, as it aids in resource allocation and the formulation of sustainable groundwater management strategies. Through the application of AHP and MIF techniques, this study effectively maps the groundwater potential, providing an essential tool for evidence-based decision-making for water resource management in the Amravati district.

Abstract:The growing population, pollution, and misuse of freshwater worldwide necessitate developing innovative methods and efficient strategies to protect vital groundwater resources. This need becomes more critical for arid/semi-arid regions of the world. The present study focuses on a GIS-based assessment and characterization of groundwater quality in a semi-arid hard-rock terrain of Rajasthan, western India using long-term and multi-site post-monsoon groundwater quality data. Spatio-temporal variations of water quality parameters in the study area were analyzed by GIS techniques. Groundwater quality was evaluated based on a GIS-based Groundwater Quality Index (GWQI). A Potential GWQI map was also generated for the study area following the Optimum Index Factor concept. The most-influential water quality parameters were identified by performing a map removal sensitivity analysis among the groundwater quality parameters. Mean annual concentration maps revealed that hardness is the only parameter that exceeds its maximum permissible limit for drinking water. GIS analysis revealed that sulfate and nitrate ions exhibit the highest (CV > 30%) temporal variation, but groundwater pH is stable. Hardness, EC, TDS, and magnesium govern the spatial pattern of the GWQI map. The groundwater quality of the study area is generally suitable for drinking and irrigation (median GWQI > 74). The GWQI map indicated that relatively high-quality groundwater exists in northwest and southeast portions of the study area. The groundwater quality parameter group of Ca, Cl, and pH were found to have the maximum value (6.44) of Optimum Index factor. It is concluded that Ca, Cl, and pH are three prominent parameters for cost-effective and long-term water quality monitoring in the study area. Hardness, Na, and SO(4), being the most-sensitive water quality parameters, need to be monitored regularly and more precisely.

Abstract:Abstract Exploration of groundwater is an integral part of viable resource growth for society, economy, and irrigation. However, uncontrolled utilization is mainly reported in urban and industries due to the increasing demand for water in semi-arid and arid regions of the world. In the background, groundwater demarcation for potential areas is vital in meeting necessary demand. The current study applied an integrated method comprising the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), multiple influence factors (MIF), combined with a linear regression curve and observatory well data for groundwater prospects mapping. Thematic maps such as flow direction, flow accumulation, elevation map, land use land cover, slope, soil texture, hill shade, geomorphology, normalized vegetation index, and groundwater depth map were generated utilizing remote sensing techniques. The relative weight of each parameter was estimated and then assigned to major and minor parameters. Potential zones for groundwater were classified into five classes, namely very good, good, moderate, poor, and very poor, based on AHP and MIF methods. A spatially explicit sensitivity and uncertainty analysis method to a GIS-based multi-criteria groundwater potential zone model is presented in this research. The study addressed a flaw in the way groundwater potential mapping results are typically presented in GIS-based multi-criteria decision analysis studies, where discrete class outputs are used without any assessment of their certainty with respect to variations in criteria weighting, which is one of the main contributors to output uncertainty. The study region is categorized based on inferred results as very poor, poor, marginal, and very good in potential ground quality 3.04 km 2 is considered extremely poor, 3.33 km 2 is considered poor, 64.42 km 2 is considered very good, and 85.84 km 2 is considered marginal zones, which shows reliable and potential implementation. The outcomes of AHP and MIF were validated by linear regression curve and actual water table in a study area. The study results help to formulate the potential demarcation of groundwater zones for future sustainable planning and development of groundwater sources. This study may be helpful to provide a cost-effective solution to water resources crises. The current study finding may be helpful for decision-makers and administrative professionals for sustainable management of groundwater resources for present and future demands.

Abstract:With the increasing water crisis and changing climate conditions, effective management of groundwater resources is crucial for ensuring food and water security as well as economic growth. However, mapping groundwater poses a significant challenge due to its elusive nature. This study focuses on the Ken River Basin in India, known for its highly variable geological conditions, where the potential of groundwater resources remains largely unexplored. The objective of this study was to utilize advanced remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques to identify and delineate areas with varying groundwater potential in the Ken Basin. The nine thematic factors, namely geology, geomorphology, slope, lineament density, land use/land cover, soil texture, rainfall, drainage density, and water level fluctuation, and three analytical methods, Multi-Influencing Factor (MIF), Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Frequency Ratio (FR), were utilized to map groundwater potential zones. The accuracy of the results was validated using the ROC curve method, with the AHP method proving to be the most accurate. Using the Model Builder in ArcGIS, geoinformatics and multi-criteria decision-making were used to identify sites for artificial groundwater recharge structures with a 66–74% accuracy rate. The combination of remote sensing, GIS, and decision-making techniques proved effective in identifying critical areas for groundwater recharge. The outcomes of this research can contribute to informed groundwater management and planning efforts in the Ken River Basin, providing valuable insights into the region's water resources.

Abstract:In the present study, the groundwater spring potential zone (GSPZ) was identified using an integrated approach of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS), analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and fuzzy-AHP based on multicriteria decision-making (MCDM). Thus, ten associated factors with groundwater springs have been considered: slope, drainage density, lineament density, geomorphology, lithology, soil texture, land use and land cover, rainfall, groundwater level, and spring discharge. The analysis output was categorized into low, moderate, and high. The result of the AHP model shows the area under the high potential zone (16.61%), the moderate potential zone (60.42%), and the low potential zone (22.61%). The result of the fuzzy-AHP model shows that the area falls under the high potential zone (30.40%), moderate potential zone (41.29%), and low potential zone (22.61%). The validation results showed fuzzy-AHP with the area under the curve 0.806, which is slightly better than 0.779 of AHP. So, the resulting GSPZ map confirms that the thematic layers used in the study have a significant role in groundwater spring occurrence and distribution. It was recommended that any groundwater spring rejuvenation or protection activities must be implemented in medium to very high potential zones.
