Abstract:BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the current mean daily intake of 10 food groups, analyze the sociodemographic factors associated with food consumption, and determine the associations between food consumption/dietary intake and the prevalence rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and hypertension (HTN) in Jakarta, Indonesia.SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 600 participants aged 20-85 yrs were included in this cross-sectional study. Food consumption and dietary habits were assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. To determine the association between food consumption/dietary habits and the abovementioned diseases, logistic regression analysis was performed.RESULTS: The average vegetable and fruit intake was lower, while sugar and salt consumption were higher than that recommended by Indonesia's national dietary guidelines. A high intake of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) was associated with young age, men, "single" status, a high education level, and employment with a high monthly income. Obesity and T2D were positively correlated with high intakes of cereals and tubers, UPFs, sugars, fats, and oils. Conversely, an inverse association was found between legume, vegetable, and fruit consumption and obesity risk. An inverse correlation was also observed between vegetable consumption and T2D risk. Moreover, a high salt intake was inversely correlated with fruit consumption in terms of HTN risk. Non-indulgence in habitual late-night snacking and refrainment from consuming more than one dish at each meal were also negatively related to the prevalence of obesity, T2D, and HTN. Inverse correlations were also observed between the prevalence rates of T2D and HTN and abstaining from adding sugar to beverages.CONCLUSION: Foods high in fat, sugar, and sodium were strongly associated with the risks of obesity, T2D, and HTN. Additionally, poor eating habits were also associated with disease development.

Abstract:Time of eating is associated with diabetes and obesity but little is known about less healthy foods and specific time of their intake over the 24 h of the day. In this study, we aimed to identify potential relationships between foods and their eating time and to see whether these associations may vary by diabetes status. The National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) including 6,802 adults (age >= 19 years old) collected 749,026 food recordings by a 4-day-diary. The contingency table cross-classifying 60 food groups with 7 pre-defined eating time slots (6-9 a.m., 9 a.m.-12 p.m., 12-2 p.m., 2-5 p.m., 8-10 p.m., 10 p.m.-6 a.m.) was analyzed by Correspondence Analysis (CA). CA biplots were generated for all adults and separately by diabetes status (self-reported, pre-diabetes, undiagnosed-diabetes, and non-diabetics) to visually explore the associations between food groups and time of eating across diabetes strata. For selected food groups, odds ratios (OR, 99% CI) were derived of consuming unhealthy foods at evening/night (8 p.m.-6 a.m.) vs. earlier time in the day, by logistic regression models with generalized estimating equations. The biplots suggested positive associations between evening/night and consumption of puddings, regular soft drinks, sugar confectioneries, chocolates, beers, ice cream, biscuits, and crisps for all adults in the UK. The OR (99% CIs) of consuming these foods at evening/night were, respectively, 1.43 (1.06, 1.94), 1.72 (1.44, 2.05), 1.84 (1.31, 2.59), 3.08 (2.62, 3.62), 7.26 (5.91, 8.92), 2.45 (1.84, 3.25), 1.90 (1.68, 2.16), and 1.49 (1.22, 1.82) vs. earlier time in the day adjusted for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and social-economic levels. Stratified biplots found that sweetened beverages, sugar-confectioneries appeared more strongly associated with evening/night among undiagnosed diabetics. Foods consumed in the evening/night time tend to be highly processed, easily accessible, and rich in added sugar or saturated fat. Individuals with undiagnosed diabetes are more likely to consume unhealthy foods at night. Further longitudinal studies are required to ascertain the causal direction of the association between late-eating and diabetes status.</p>

Abstract:Background: The prevalence of childhood obesity is in creasingly worldwide. Abnormal glucose metabolism (ASM) including impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is a common endocrine complication among overweight and obese children and adolescents. Few studies of AGM are available in Thailand.Objectives: The study aimed to establish the prevalence of AGM and identify associated complications among overweight and obese children and adolescents.Methods: Data of overweight and obese children and adolescents, aged 6 to 18 years, undergoing oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at phramongkutklao Hospital were reviewed retrospectively. Fasting blood sugar, Hemoglobin Ale (HbA1c). fasting insulin, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, aspartate transaminase and alanine aminotransferase were derived from fasting measurement. Homeostatic model assessment was calculated to represent the insulin resistance.Result: A total of 204 children and adolescents (122 males) were included. Mean age was 12.1 ± 2.6 years and percent weight for height was 168.8 ± 25.4% The overall prevalence of AGM was 20.6%, 1 % had T2DM, 0.5% had IFG, 36% had IGT and 1.5% had combined IFG/IGT. Among the AGM, IGT was the most frequent subtype representing 92.8% (39/42 cases) but only 2 cases of T2DM were diagnosed in our study. The AGM group had significantly higher FPG (p=0.034), HbA1c (p=0.006) and cholesterol levels (p=0.043) than those of the nonabnormal glucose metabolism (NGM) groupConclusion: Prevalences of AGM among overweight and obese children and adolescents were high. IGT was the most frequent group.

Abstract:In the method-of-moments (MoM), applied to the electric field integral equation (EFIE), the solution (the unknown current) is approximated by a linear combination of a finite number of basis functions. The basic question addressed in this work is whether the use of the exact Green's function is the optimal choice once the (finite-dimensional) space of the approximate solution has been chosen. We approach to the above question introducing a new representation of the spatial Green's function obtained by an appropriate spectral filtering with a mesh-dependent spectral content. The first direct impact of this filtering is in the disappearance of the Green's function singularity; as a consequence, the spatial integration is easier, avoiding the extraction of the singular term in the integration process. In this paper, we consider both scattering and antenna problems in free space, proposing a "band limited" Green's function expressed in closed form in the spatial domain and obtained through an appropriate windowing in the spectral domain.
The consumption of Indonesian local food and its relationship with body mass index among female university students

Abstract:The study aimed to determine trend of Indonesian local food consumption and its association with body mass index (BMI) among female university students. It was cross-sectional study that involved 217 Indonesian female university students (18-25 years old) in April-May 2021 using conventional sampling by a self-administered online questionnaire in Malang City, East Java, Indonesia. Sociodemographic and dietary habits were collected along with body BMI data. Descriptive and Ordinal Logistic Regression were applied to analyze the data. The results showed the average BMI of 217 participants was 21.28+3.30 kg/m2. From 167 local Indonesian food that were identified, local cuisine with high carbohydrates and sugar such as fried noodles, meatballs, mixed vegetable soup, biscuits/pastry, fritters with topping, and iced milk tea with topping had a positive impact on overnutrition. Interestingly, chicken porridge had an inverse association with overnutrition. The ordinal regression results depicted the length of stay in study area had a significant association with BMI. However, meal frequency and snack time consumption also affected BMI. The preferred high-carbohydrate food is significantly associated with overnutrition (p<0.05). It is crucial to adjust nutritional education and people's food menu in reducing high-carbohydrate and sugar food to provide healthy food for university students.

Abstract:Indonesia is a developing country facing the national problem of the growing obesity and diabetes in its population due to recent drastic dietary and lifestyle changes. To understand the link between the gut microbiome, diet, and health of Indonesian people, fecal microbiomes and metabolomes of 75 Indonesian adults in Yogyakarta City, including obese people (n = 21), type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients (n = 25), and the controls (n = 29) were characterized together with their dietary and medical records. Variations of microbiomes showed a triangular distribution in the principal component analysis, driven by three dominant bacterial genera, namely Bacteroides, Prevotella, and Romboutsia. The Romboutsia-driven microbiome, characterized by low bacterial diversity and high primary bile acids, was associated with fat-driven obesity. The Bacteroides-driven microbiome, which counteracted Prevotella but was associated with Ruminococcaceae concomitantly increased with high-carbohydrate diets, showed positive correlation with T2D indices but negative correlation with body mass index. Notably, Bacteroides fragilis was increased in T2D patients with a decrease in fecal conjugated bile acids, particularly tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) antagonist with anti-diabetic activity, while these features disappeared in patients administered metformin. These results indicate that the gut microbiome status of Indonesian adults is differently associated with obesity and T2D under their varied dietary habits.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Lifestyle changes, particularly dietary intake, had resulted in increasing trends of type-2 diabetes mellitus worldwide. However, dietary intake is diverse across country contexts. This study aimed to compare the dietary intake, food patterns, and blood glucose among middle-aged adults living in urban and suburban areas in Mandalay city, Myanmar, and explore their relationships.METHODS: A cross-sectional community-based study was conducted during June-November 2014. Adults aged 35-64 were randomly selected and requested to record all food they ate in a 4-day diary. Fasting and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose values were measured over two consecutive days. Dietary intakes were calculated in terms of energy, macronutrients, glycemic index, and glycemic load, and food patterns were identified by factor analysis. The relationships between food pattern, dietary intake, and blood glucose were assessed.RESULTS: Of 440 participants, dietary intake between urban and suburban residents was significantly different. Six food patterns were identified. There was no difference in fasting and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose between urban and suburban residents, but a strong correlation between fasting blood glucose and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose was found (correlation coefficient=0.8). Identification of abnormal blood glucose status using original fasting and converted 2-hour postprandial values showed substantial agreement (prevalence-adjusted bias-adjusted Kappa=0.8). Relationships between food patterns and blood glucose or abnormal blood glucose status were not found.CONCLUSION: Food patterns were associated with dietary intake, not with abnormal blood glucose status. Two-hour postprandial blood glucose was highly correlated with fasting blood glucose and may be used for identifying abnormal blood glucose status.

Abstract:Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become a global health problem because the prevalence of diabetes mellitus continues to increase. Data from the West Sumatra Provincial Health Office (2018), DM cases totalled 44,280 cases, with a DM prevalence of 1.6% in 2018. Self-efficacy plays an important role in controlling blood sugar levels. Lack of self-efficacy causes the patient's blood sugar levels to become abnormal, resulting in a risk of complications. This research aims to study the relationship between self-efficacy and diet compliance with blood sugar levels in DM patients at the Andalas Public Health Center, Padang City. The research method is descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional approach, with a total sample of 75 people. The results showed that 78.7% of the respondents have hyperglycemia, 72.0% with non-compliant to their diet limitation, and 68.0% with low self-efficacy. A relationship exists between diet compliance and blood sugar levels in type 2 DM patients. There is a relationship between self-efficacy and blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Padang Andalas Public Health Center in 2022.

Abstract:Background: Adolescent overweight and obesity (AOO) is a global public health problem and risk for noncommunicable diseases. Understanding context-specific risks is crucial for interventions. Objective: Determine the prevalence of AOO in the Indonesian National Health Survey (INHS) 2013, assess the 5-year trend from 2013 to 2018, and identify risks. Methods: We selected adolescents aged 10 to 19 years (n = 174 290) from the INHS 2013 and used hierarchical logistic regression to identify gender-specific risks for those aged 15 to 19 years (n = 77 534). Change in AOO was assessed by comparison to INHS 2018 reports. Results: The national AOO prevalence increased over 5 years by 48% in young adolescents (13-15 years) and 85% in older ones (16-18 years). High prevalence areas included the urban location of Jakarta (20.9%) and the remote rural region of Papua (19.4%). Overall, AOO risks were being sedentary, male, lower education, married, younger adolescent, and school enrollment, with urban residence and higher wealth being persistent risks for all analyses. Data for depressive symptoms were available for older adolescents whose additional risks were being sedentary, depressive symptoms, and high-fat diet. Male risks were being sedentary and lower education, and female risks were being married, depressive symptoms, high-fat intake, and lower education. Higher intake of fruits and vegetables and fewer sweets did not protect against AOO if a high-fat diet was consumed. Conclusions: Adolescent overweight and obesity in Indonesia is rapidly increasing, especially in older adolescents and males, and with gender-specific risks. Customized multisectoral interventions to identify strategies for lifestyle change are urgently needed.

Abstract:Obesity is one of the nutritional problems in Indonesia. Meanwhile, based on data from Basic Health Research in 2018, the prevalence of overweight was 13.6% and obesity was 21,8%. This study aimed to analyze sleep quality, stress, physical activity, and food consumption with nutritional status. A cross-sectional study design was applied with 60 subjects aged 20-30 years old selected by cluster random sampling method. Characteristics of subjects, sleep quality, stress levels, physical activity, and food consumption data were collected through interviews by structured questionnaires and direct measurements. The results showed no significant between age, gender, allowance, food expenditure, physical activity, and food diversity with nutritional status (p>0,05). In contrast, sleep quality and stress levels were significant to nutritional status (p<0,05), and stress level was the risk factor for the obesity incidence, OR= 6,2 [95% CI 1,9-20,3]. Thus, stress levels are a risk factor that affects individual nutritional status.
Associations between Variability in Between- and Within-Day Dietary Intake with Adiposity and Glucose Homeostasis in Adults: A Systematic Review

Abstract:This systematic review aims to comprehensively evaluate the literature regarding the impact of variations in dietary intake, both between- and within-day, on adiposity and glucose metabolism. We included observational and experimental articles obtained from PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and gray literature until 9 October, 2023, evaluating the impact of between- or within-day variations in meal, energy, or macronutrient intake on these outcomes. Our focus was on adults aged ≥18 y, spanning both healthy individuals and those with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Given the diverse range of exposures, treatments, and outcomes among the selected articles, we chose a qualitative synthesis approach to effectively analyze the data. Eighty articles from 43 observational and 37 experimental studies were included, involving 89,178 participants. Patterns of dietary intake variation were identified and systematically organized into distinct categories based on similarities. Between-day variations in dietary intake consisted of between-day variations in both the quantity consumed and meal timing. Meanwhile, within-day variations encompassed factors such as eating window, meal omission, within-day meal timing, within-day variation in dietary intake quantity, and temporal distribution. Despite mixed results, time-restricted eating was generally associated with lower adiposity. However, limited control for total daily energy intake (TDEI) suggests that the contribution of lower energy intake cannot be conclusively excluded. Conversely, the adverse effect of meal omission on glucose parameters was consistently supported by randomized trials. Interestingly, the results showed that consuming a substantial portion of TDEI in the morning may increase the likelihood of observing improvements in adiposity. Furthermore, inconsistencies in outcomes across articles examining the effects in healthy compared with T2DM populations, or in energy-sufficient compared with deficient individuals, indicate potential condition-specific effects. These findings support the need for further investigation into the effects of between- and within-day variations in dietary intake to better understand their impact on adiposity and glucose homeostasis. Abstract:Purpose: The increasing desire of the community towards fulfilling the practical needs of life is currently accommodated by the rapid development of communication technology in the last five years in Indonesia. One example is the emergence of various food delivery applications. This will affect the pattern of daily food consumption in the community. Therefore, this study determined the personal and socio-environmental factors that influence the frequency of online food ordering (OFO) behavior and also high-risk food consumption through online food delivery services (OFDS) among young adults in Depok City. Theoritical Framework: This study adopts the social cognitive theory, developed by Bandura, as its framework. This theory is one of the most widely applied theories to discusses the determinants of health behavior. It is built on an understanding of the interactions that occur between individuals and environment. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study conducted with 686 participants of young adults aged 20–39 years that lived in Depok City, West Java Province, Indonesia, for minimal the last six months. They were administered a questionnaire through Alchemer, formerly SurveyGizmo. Descriptive statistics were employed for all variables measured. A T-test and a Chi-square test were conducted to determine the factors influencing the OFO frequency and high-risk food consumption through OFDS. Predictor variables were generated using multi-logistic regression models. Results: The personal and socio-environmental factors related to the frequency of OFO behavior were attitudes toward risk, benefit, barriers, features of OFDS, satisfaction with OFDS, socio-environmental influence, perception about OFDS, and online food preference. Furthermore, the factors associated with high-risk food consumption through OFDS were attitudes toward benefit, features, satisfaction with OFDS, socio-environmental influence, perception about OFDS, online food preference, and knowledge of OFDS. The predictor for the frequency of OFO behavior was satisfaction toward OFDS (ß = 3.3; CI: 2.4–4.7; p-value <0.001), while those for high-risk food consumption were personal and socio-environmental factors (ß = 1.8; CI: 1.3–2.5; p-value = 0.001 and ß = 1.7; CI: 1.2–2.4; p-value = 0.001, respectively). Conclusions: Satisfaction, social environment, and food preference play essential roles in OFDS. The findings demonstrated the urgency of conducting further studies to elaborate on the association of OFDS with non-communicable diseases.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the level of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), the prevalence of impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and the associated factors among children and adolescents in urban China. Based on a cross-sectional study conducted in three Chinese metropolises during 2013–2014, this analysis included 7,143 participants aged 7–18 years. Information on demographics, family environment, diet, and physical activity was collected by questionnaires. Anthropometric parameters and blood biochemical indicators were measured. Logistic regression models were applied to assess risk factors of glucose level. Results revealed that the average FPG level was 4.81 ± 0.53 mmol/L, and the prevalence of IFG was 3.3%. Trends of these two variables varied significantly with age increasing (all p < 0.001 ), reaching double peaks at 10–12 and 15–17 years. IFG was positively associated with the male sex, age increasing, obesity, higher triglyceride (TG) levels, and living in northern China. When stratified by sex, family history of diabetes, elevated total cholesterol levels, and higher intake of sugar-sweetened beverages were positively associated with IFG only in females, suggesting these parameters were female-specific risk factors of IFG. We concluded that the prevalence of IFG among children and adolescents aged 7–18 years in urban China was higher than that reported in previous regional studies and was associated with obesity and higher levels of TG. Therefore, sex-specific lifestyle interventions should be provided to promote healthy weight and lipids and stem the upward trend of IFG.

Abstract:Aims: To examine the associations of BMI and waist circumference with glucose metabolism and (pre) diabetes among adults with BMI < 25 kg/m(2).Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in a nationally representative sample (10,098 men and 17,454 women) of Chinese adults aged >= 20 years with BMI < 25 kg/m(2). Glucose levels after at least 10 hours of overnight fasting, at 30 minutes and at 120 minutes after a standard 75-g oral glucose load were measured. Associations of BMI and waist circumference with outcomes were examined by general linear models for continuous outcomes and by logistic regression models for dichotomous outcomes.Results: Among those with BMI < 25 kg/m(2), 18.8% of men and 17.1% of women had abnormal glucose metabolism, including 4.9% of men and 3.8% of women with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. For each SD increase in BMI (2.1 kg/m(2)) and waist circumference (8.3 cm), fasting glucose levels increased by 0.128 and 0.170 mmol/L in men, and by 0.112 and 0.167 mmol/L in women, respectively; the corresponding increases for 2-hour post-load glucose levels were 0.121 and 0.217 mmol/L in men, and 0.241 and 0.362 mmol/L in women. When simultaneously included in the same model, these associations with waist circumference were stronger than with BMI.Conclusion: Obesity measures are associated with abnormal glucose metabolism and diabetes, with central obesity playing a more prominent role than general obesity in Chinese population with BMI < 25 kg/m(2). Chinese diabetes prevention and treatment programs should incorporate targeting of normal weight adults with central obesity.

Abstract:Abnormal glucose tolerance (AGT), which includes type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, is highly prevalent in women post gestational diabetes mellitus (post-GDM). Dietary patterns have been associated with the risk of developing AGT in women post-GDM, but evidence in Asian populations is sparse. This study aimed to determine the association between a posteriori dietary patterns and AGT in women post-GDM. This cross-sectional study recruited 157 women post-GDM (mean age 34.8 years) from Seri Kembangan Health Clinic and Universiti Putra Malaysia. AGT was diagnosed according to the Malaysian Clinical Practice Guidelines using a 75 g 2 h oral glucose tolerance test or HbA1c. Food intake was assessed using the 2014 Malaysian Adult Nutrition Survey food frequency questionnaire. Five dietary patterns were derived using principal component analysis: 'Unhealthy', 'Fish-eggs-fruits-vegetables', 'Cereals-confectionaries', 'Legumes-dairy', and 'Meat-sugar-sweetened-beverages'. After adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics and total energy intake, the 'Cereals-confectionaries' dietary pattern was significantly associated with AGT (adjusted odds ratio 1.536, p = 0.049). Targeted lifestyle modification, including dietary intervention, for women post-GDM is warranted to reduce their risk of AGT and its complications.

Abstract:Obesity among young adults, especially those living in developing countries is increasing. A high body mass index (BMI) is one of the major causes of several diseases worldwide, constituting an important risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Investigations describing the relationship between BMI, clinical and gut microbiota characteristics and lifestyle factors of overweight young adults, especially from Southeast Asian countries are limited. Metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers, fecal microbiota profiles and lifestyle factors were compared between overweight Thai young adults (n = 30, mean age 33 ± 9.48) and those with normal weight (n = 30, mean age 27 ±7.50). This study was registered with the Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR20220204007). Health status including body composition, fasting glucose and insulin, lipid profiles, liver and kidney function, inflammatory biomarkers, blood pressure and fecal microbiota using 16S rRNA gene sequencing data was determined. Dietary intake was assessed using a 3-day dietary record and a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), with physical activity levels compared using the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ). The overweight group had significantly higher BMI, waist-hip ratio, body fat mass, % body fat, skeletal mass, triglyceride level, C-reactive protein, insulin and blood pressure, with lower levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and blood urea nitrogen compared to the normal weight group. Significant differences in fecal microbiota composition at the family and genus levels were observed between the two groups. In our clinical setting, we also observed that unhealthy diets with high consumption of food rich in fat and sugar, processed meat and alcohol, and physical inactivity were associated with an increased prevalence of overweight in Thai young adults. Results provided the big picture of health and lifestyle characteristics of overweight young Thai people. Young adults should be encouraged to engage in health-promoting activities that maintain healthy bodyweight.

Abstract:The worldwide prevalence and incidence of diabetes and obesity are increasing in pandemic proportions. This is particularly relevant for China, where an extremely large population is growing, aging, and urbanizing. We thus conducted a prospective study to examine the prevalence and incidence of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and diabetes, the rate at which fasting blood glucose rises, and the major modifiable risk factors associated with these outcomes in a large Chinese population from the Kailuan prospective study.A prospective cohort included 100,279 Chinese participants, aged 18 years or more, who had available information on fasting blood glucose concentrations at the start of the study (2006). Examination surveys were conducted every 2 years in 2008 and 2010. For the analyses of incident diabetes, we included 76,869 participants who were free of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer at the baseline and participants in the 2008 and/or 2010 follow-up. Diabetes was defined by a fasting blood glucose concentration >= 7mmol/L, self-reported history, or active treatment with insulin or any oral hypoglycemic agent. IFG was defined by a fasting blood glucose concentration between 5.6 and 6.9mmol/L.During the 4-year study, the prevalence of diabetes and IFG rose from 6.6% to 7.7%, and 17.3% to 22.6%, respectively. There were 17,811 incident cases of IFG and 4867 incident cases of diabetes. The age-standardized incident rate of IFG and diabetes were 62.6/1000 person-years (51.2/1000 person-years in women and 73.8/1000 person-years in men) and 10.0/1000 person-years (7.8/ 1000 person-years in women and 12.1/1000 person-years in men), respectively. We observed steady increases in fasting blood glucose with body anthropometrics and in every defined category of body mass index, including in those traditionally considered to be well within the "normal" range.In this large longitudinal study of Chinese adults, we observed a high prevalence and incidence of IFG and diabetes over 4 years of follow-up. Our findings are alarming for Chinese public health since steady rises in fasting blood glucose were seen across all permutations of body habitus, even apparently very lean individuals.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the association of the dietary pattern with the presence of newly diagnosed glucose tolerance abnormalities among Chinese adults. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 20,210 adults aged 45–69 years from the 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey were included. Information on dietary intake was collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Factor analysis and cluster analysis were used to identify the food factors and dietary pattern clusters. RESULTS Four dietary pattern clusters were identified (“Green Water,” “Yellow Earth,” “Western Adopter,” and “New Affluence”). The prevalence of glucose tolerance abnormalities ranged from 3.9% in the Green Water to 8.0% in the New Affluence. After adjustment for area, age, sex, current smoking, and physical activity, subjects in the Yellow Earth cluster (prevalence ratio 1.22 [95% CI 1.04–1.43]) and New Affluence cluster (2.05 [1.76–2.37]) had significantly higher prevalence rates compared with those for the Green Water cluster. After further adjustment for BMI and waist-to-height ratio, the elevated risk in the New Affluence remained statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS Dietary patterns and food factors are associated with the presence of glucose tolerance abnormalities in China, even independent of obesity. A New Affluence diet is an important modifiable risk factor, which needs attention from the prevention point of view.

Abstract:Technology development causes easy access to various sectors, including ordering food online. Fast food is one of the foods that many people reviewed in online applications that are high in fat with a density of 40% of total calories. Meanwhile, the consumption of vegetables and fruits of Indonesia’s people is still inadequate; only 63.3% consume as recommended. These things will undoubtedly increase the body mass index (BMI) and increase the risk of overweight and obesity. This study aims to analyze the impact of online order development on fast food, vegetables, and fruits consumption behavior on students in Surabaya. This descriptive cross-sectional study enrolled 317 students in Surabaya City, East Java, Indonesia. The online survey collected data through online platforms, SurveyMonkey. Data were analyzed in statistical software SPSS 25.0 using multivariate binomial linear regression test. The significance level was set at p<0.05. Regression analysis shows that the habit of ordering boba drinks with a weekly frequency has a significant relationship with the incidence of overweight/obesity in respondents (p = 0.015; OR = 3.037; 95% CI (1.236-7.462)) when compared to respondents who have the habit of ordering and consuming boba drinks every month. Consumption habits of boba drink are associated with higher body mass index (BMI), increasing the risk of overweight and obesity. A policy from the government and related parties is needed to regulate boba consumption limits for the community.
