Abstract:An efficient and solvent-free procedure was developed to improve the solubility and bioavailability of the poorly water-soluble drug puerarin by mechanochemical technology. The stable inclusion complex of puerarin and 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPCD) was prepared by a ball mill under the following conditions: equimolar ratio of puerarin to HPCD; rotational speed of 250 rpm; milling time of 90 min; steel balls of 22 mm diameter. The solid complex was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), powder X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and fourier transformation-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Mechanochemical action could result in enhanced molecular encapsulation, homogeneous distribution and amorphization of the drug. In comparison to puerarin, a 1.64-fold increase in absolute bioavailability was obtained. The solubility of the inclusion complex was 25.33-fold higher and the drug release amount reached 79.44% at 15 min, 2.76-fold higher.
Quantitative study of placental villi in trisomy by analytical morphometry.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To assess the relationship between morphologic features of placental villi and the occurrence of trisomy. STUDY DESIGN We selected 9 placentas with genetically diagnosed trisomy 21 and 6 normal placentas of matched gestational age. The 150 selected villi underwent a morphometric study using the Shape Analytical Morphometry system, availing itself of an ordinary section to study dimensions and of a specific section to study the shape. The analytic morphometric procedure for shape analysis consisted of 3 steps: upper degree polynomial equations, Fourier analysis and parabolic fitting. RESULTS Trisomic villi showed bigger size and a more asymmetric and irregular shape than did normal villi. CONCLUSION We believe that this method can provide valuable information and that further studies are needed to analyze more cohorts of pathologic villi, thus providing a complete pattern of morphologic aberrations related to each placental disease.
Multilevel step-up DC/DC converter for MVDC applications

Abstract:This paper presents a multilevel step-up DC/DC converter for medium-voltage DC applications. The main features of the proposed multilevel converter are as follows: 1) the voltage stress of the power devices can be lowered, making it suitable for high-voltage applications; 2) the boost inductor can be significantly reduced which leads to the outstanding dynamic performance; and 3) it can reach a high-voltage gain, which is well suited for high-gain applications. The theoretical analysis is carried out for a four-level step-up converter. Therefore, the converter can be extended to any arbitrary number of levels. The proposed four-level converter is verified by a simulation and evaluated to the conventional multilevel DC/DC converter in terms of component stress and power device count. The developed topology has been implemented on a 2-kW prototype converter to confirm its feasibility.
Hydroxyethyl Cellulose-Based Hydrogels as Controlled Release Carriers for Amorphous Solid Dispersion of Bioactive Components of Radix Paeonia Alba

Abstract:Radix Paeoniae Alba (RPA) has been used extensively in Chinese traditional medicine to treat gastrointestinal disorders, immune-modulating diseases, cancers, and numerous other conditions. A few of its active components include paeoniflorin, albiflorin, lactiflorin, and catechin. However, their therapeutic effectiveness is compromised by poor pharmacokinetic profiles, low oral bioavailability, short half-lives, and poor aqueous solubility. In this study, hydroxyethyl cellulose-grafted-2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (HEC-g-AMPS) hydrogels were successfully prepared for the controlled release of Radix Paeonia Alba-solid dispersion (RPA-SD). A total of 43 compounds were identified in RPA-SD using UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS analysis. The hydrogel network formation was confirmed by FTIR, TGA, DSC, XRD, and SEM. Hydrogels' swelling and drug release were slightly higher at pH 1.2 (43.31% swelling, 81.70% drug release) than at pH 7.4 (27.73% swelling, 72.46% drug release) after 48 h. The gel fraction, drug release time and mechanical strength of the hydrogels increased with increased polymer and monomer concentration. Furthermore, the hydrogels were porous (84.15% porosity) and biodegradable (8.9% weight loss per week). Moreover, the synthesized hydrogels exhibited excellent antimicrobial and antioxidative properties.

An injectable supramolecular nanofiber-reinforced chitosan hydrogel with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties as potential carriers for drug delivery

Abstract:The inherent weak mechanical strength of chitosan physical cross-linking hydrogels (CS hydrogels) limits their applications in biomaterials. Hence, puerarin (PUE) as a self-assembly active small molecule in herbal was introduced in CS hydrogels to fabricate CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels with interpenetrating network structure. The result of rheological measurement showed that storage modulus and loss modulus of CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels were improved by three orders of magnitude, indicating that the introduction of PUE significantly reinforced CS hydrogels. The results of SEM and BET measurement demonstrated that macromolecular chains of CS intertwined with nanofibers of PUE, which caused the network structure of CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels to become denser. XRD patterns and FT-IR spectra verified that the amino groups in CS formed hydrogen bonding with the hydroxyl groups in PUE. Degradation and swelling experiments showed that CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels have pH sensitivity. Moreover, CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels exhibited multi-functionality including injectability, thixotropy, cytocompatibility, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The release behavior of berberine chloride hydrate (BCH) and PUE from the resultant CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels have pH dependence. These results revealed that injectable CS/PUE18 composite hydrogels with dual antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties could be potential delivery vehicles for sustained and controlled release.
Thermosensitive hydrogel based on poly(ether-ester anhydride) nanoparticle as drug delivery system: preparation, characterization and biocompatibility.

Abstract:A novel temperature-response hydrogel was developed for drug-delivery applications. The hydrogel matrix (PES) was synthesized by melt polycondensation of poly(ether–ester) diacid based on PEG with low molecular weight and sebacic acid. The sol–gel–sol phase transitions of PES nanoparticle (NP) hydrogel were investigated. In vitro erosion of hydrogel was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, environmental scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. In vitro release behaviors of hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs and in vivo histopathological evaluation were studied in detail. The study results revealed that an aqueous dispersion of PES nanoparticle freeze-dried powder exhibited reversible sol–gel transition behavior with increasing temperature. The hydrogel could maintain steadily at least a month during in vitro erosion process. There were sustained release behaviors of hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs from PES NP hydrogel and histopathological studies confirmed that the PES NP hydrogel only provoked an acceptable modest inflammatory response. Thus, PES NP hydrogel is biodegradable, biocompatible and promising in controlling the incorporated drugs for sustained release.

Abstract:Development of a delivery system which can effectively carry hydrophobic drugs and have pH response is becoming necessary. Here we demonstrate that through preparation of β-cyclodextrin polymer (β-CDP), a hydrophobic drug molecule of ibuprofen (IBU) was incorporated into our prepared β-CDP inner cavities, aiming to improve the poor water solubility of IBU. A core-shell capsule structure has been designed for achieving the drug pH targeted and sustained release. This delivery system was built with polysaccharide polymer of Sodium alginate (SA), sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) by physical cross-linking. The drug pH-response control release is this hydrogel system's chief merit, which has potential value for synthesizing enteric capsule. Besides, due to our simple preparing strategy, optimal conditions can be readily determined and the synthesis process can be accurately controlled, leading to consistent and reproducible hydrogel capsules. In addition, phase-solubility method was used to investigate the solubilization effect of IBU by β-CDP. SEM was used to prove the forming of core and shell structure. FT-IR and 1H-NMR were also used to perform structural characteristics. By the technique of UV determination, the pH targeted and sustained release study were also performed. The results have proved that our prepared polysaccharide hydrogel capsule delivery system has potential applications as oral drugs delivery in the field of biomedical materials.

Abstract:The chitosan hydrogel has been widely appraised for drug delivery systems. However, its long gel formation time, poor drug release effect, and low drug loading capacity for hydrophobic drugs limited its wide application. Herein, the β-cyclodextrin-grafted chitosan (CD-g-CS) with different degrees of substitution (DS) was successfully synthesized from O-p-toluenesulfonyl-β-cyclodextrin (Ts-CD) and chitosan (CS). The novel thermosensitive β-cyclodextrin-grafted chitosan/glycerophosphate (CD-g-CS/GP) hydrogels were prepared in the presence of αβ-glycerophosphate (GP). The CD-g-CS/GP hydrogels had a gel time of less than 6 min and performed great injection performance. In vitro release studies revealed that the hydrogels not only had a sustained release but also enhanced the solubility and bioavailability of curcumin (CUR). And the CD-g-CS/GP hydrogel had suitable swelling behavior, porosity, and degradation rate. In addition, the hydrogels exhibited good hemocompatibility. The evaluation of the antibacterial activity indicated that CUR@CD-g-CS/GP hydrogels were effective antibacterial materials for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli . In summary, the results suggested that the CD-g-CS/GP hydrogel might be used as a potential biodegradable smart drug-sustained release system for the controlled release of hydrophobic drugs, which has broad application prospects in the field of biomedicine.

Synthesis of Gallic Acid-Loaded Chitosan-Grafted-2-Acrylamido-2-Methylpropane Sulfonic Acid Hydrogels for Oral Controlled Drug Delivery: In Vitro Biodegradation, Antioxidant, and Antibacterial Effects

Abstract:In this study, chitosan (CS) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS)-based hydrogels were formulated by the free radical polymerization technique for the controlled release of gallic acid. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the successful preparation and loading of gallic acid within the hydrogel network. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed the increased thermal stability of the hydrogels following the crosslinking and polymerization of chitosan and AMPS. In X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), the crystallinity of the raw materials decreased, indicating strong crosslinking of the reagents and the formation of a new polymeric network of hydrogels. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the hydrogel had a rough, dense, and porous surface, which is consistent with the highly polymerized composition of the hydrogel. After 48 h, the hydrogels exhibited higher swelling at pH 1.2 (swelling ratio of 19.93%) than at pH 7.4 (swelling ratio of 15.65%). The drug release was analyzed using ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer and demonstrated that after 48 h, gallic acid release was maximum at pH 1.2 (85.27%) compared to pH 7.4 (75.19%). The percent porosity (78.36%) and drug loading increased with the increasing concentration of chitosan and AMPS, while a decrease was observed with the increasing concentration of ethylene glycol dimethyl methacrylate (EGDMA). Crosslinking of the hydrogels increased with concentrations of chitosan and EGDMA but decreased with AMPS. In vitro studies demonstrated that the developed hydrogels were biodegradable (8.6% degradation/week) and had antimicrobial (zone of inhibition of 21 and 16 mm against Gram-positive bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus as well as 13 mm against Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively) and antioxidant (73% DPPH and 70% ABTS) properties. Therefore, the prepared hydrogels could be used as an effective controlled drug delivery system.

Abstract:In this study, a novel carboxymethylcellulose / ZnO / chitosan (CMC / ZnO / Cs) hydrogel microbeads loaded with crosslinked porous starch / curcumin (CPS / Cur) were designed and prepared to improve the encapsulation efficiency of curcumin for drug delivery to specific sites. It was found that the total pore volume of crosslinked porous starch (CPS) was increased by 1150 % when compared to the native starch (NS), and the adsorption ratio of curcumin by CPS was enhanced by 27 % when compared to NS. Secondly, the swelling ratio of composite hydrogel microbeads was within 25 % in an acidic environment at pH 1.2, and the swelling ratio of hydrogel microbeads sharply increased to 320 % ~ 370 % at pH 6.8 and 7.4. In addition, the results of in vitro simulated release experiments showed that the released amount of hydrogel microbeads loaded with NS/Cur and CPS/Cur in SGF were within 7 % in simulated gastric fluid (SGF). The highest released amount of curcumin was 65.26 % for hydrogel beads loaded with CPS/Cur, which was 26 % lower than that of hydrogel microbeads loaded with Cur in simulated intestinal fluid (SIF). In simulated colonic fluid (SCF), the released amount of hydrogel microbeads loaded with CPS/Cur and Cur were 73.96 % and 91.69 %, respectively. In conclusion, pH-sensitive drug delivery system with good drug stability and bioavailability were successfully prepared with carboxymethylcellulose / ZnO / chitosan bead, suitable targeting drug delivery to the small intestine.

[Primary study on protective effect of mulberry extracts on Abeta25-35-induced PC12 cells injury].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the neuroprotective effect of mulberry extracts (ME) against Abeta25-35-induced injury in cultured PC12 cells and explore the possible mechanisms involved. METHODS PC12 cells at logarithmic growth phase were divided into the normal control group, Abeta25-35 group (20 micromol/L for 24h) and ME pretreating groups at the concentrations of 25, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 microg/ml. Cell viability was determined by MTT assay. On that basis, PC12 cells were divided into the normal control group, ME group (200 microg/ml ME incubation alone for 24h), Abeta25-35 group (20 micromol/L for 24h) and ME plus Abeta25-35 group (after pretreatment with 200 microg/ml ME for 24h, cells were exposed to 201 micromol/L Abeta25-35 for another 24h). Intracellular reactive oxidative species (ROS) was measured by using the fluorescent DCFH-DA and the apoptotic cells were observed by Hoechst33342 staining method. RESULTS (1) The results showed that exposure of PC12 cells to Abeta22-35 (20 micromol/L) for 24h induced notably neuronal injury (P < 0.05) as compared with the control group, while pretreatment with 100 or 200 microg/ml ME almost completely reversed Abeta25-35 induced neuronal injury (P < 0.05). (2) There were no remarkable changes in ROS levels and apoptosis rate of ME group as compared with the control group (P > 0.05). Compared with the control group, exposure to 20 micromol/L Abeta25-35 for 24h resulted in a significant decrease in cell viability (P < 0.05) while increase in ROS levels and cell apoptosis rate (P < 0.05). But pretreatment of PC12 cells with 200 microg/ml ME could counteract ROS formation and inhibit apoptosis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION These results suggest that mulberry extracts rich in phenolics and anthocyanins could alleviate Abeta25-35-induced injury in PC12 cells, which might be associated with the antioxidative and antiapoptosis effects.
Encapsulation and sustained release of curcumin by hawthorn pectin and Tenebrio Molitor protein composite hydrogel

Abstract:In this study, the effects of pH value, mixing ratio and the Ca2+ concentration on the complex gelation of hawthorn pectin (HP) and Tenebrio Molitor protein (TMP) were investigated. The turbidity results showed that the composite gel had the maximum polymer concentration when the mixing ratio was 2:1 and the pH value was 3.35. The rheological measurement results showed that TMP/HP (15 mmol/L) hydrogel (THIH) had the highest storage modulus and loss modulus, indicating that the properties of the hydrogel at this Ca2+ concentration had been significantly improved. The results of scanning electron microscope and pore size also proved that the network structure prepared under this condition was compact and uniform, the pore size was small, which was beneficial to the entrapment of active components. Subsequently, in order to explore the storage stability and antioxidant activity of THIH-loaded curcumin in simulated gastrointestinal environment, in vitro simulated digestion experiment was carried out and satisfactory results were obtained. To sum up, THIH was a promising delivery system with broad application prospects, which was expected to provide a novel idea for the entrapment and delivery of active components.
A Supramolecular Hydrogel of Puerarin

Abstract:Supramolecular hydrogels have drawn increased attention because of their advantages in facile synthesis, biocompatibility, easy degradation and fast responses to external stimuli. Until now, the example of hydrogelators of pure natural resources has rarely been reported. Here, we report on a novel hydrogelator of a natural resource, puerarin, which could self-assemble to hydrogels with excellent antioxidant properties and tremendous acid resistance. Our PG-4 could overcome exogenous ROS injury and promote the survival rate of H₂O₂ treated MSCs by down-regulating SOD activity and MDA level by 21.6% and 28.7% respectively. In addition, utilizing the good acid resistance of PG-4, we investigated its application as an oral formulation. The dissolution rate of puerarin in intestinal-fluid analogue (87.8% at 12 hr) was much faster than that in gastric-fluid analogue (35.6% at 12 hr), which demonstrated that the majority of puerarin was diffused from PG-4 in simulated intestinal fluid. The corresponding pharmacokinetics parameters indicated that PG-4 remarkably improved the absorption of puerarin by oral administration.
Polyelectrolyte complexes of chitosan and hyaluronic acid or carboxymethylpullulan and their aminoguaiacol derivatives with biological activities as potential drug delivery systems

Abstract:Polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) were elaborated from chitosan as cationic polymer and carboxy-methylpullulan (CMP), hyaluronic acid (HA) and their derivatives grafted with aminoguaiacol (G) with different degrees of substitution (DSGA) with the aim of obtaining nanogels for drug delivery. For each couple of polysaccharides, the charge ratios giving the smaller size with the lower PDI were selected to produce PECs. CMP_CHIT and CMP-G_CHIT PECs had smaller sizes (220-280 nm) than HA_CHIT and HA-G_CHIT PECs (280-390 nm). PECs were stable at 4 °C during 28 days at pH 5. In phosphate buffer saline (PBS) at pH 7.4, at 4 °C, a better stability of PECs based on CMP-G derivatives was observed. The hydrophobic associations between aminoguaiacol groups (highlighted by measurements of pyrene fluorescence) led to a better PECs' stabilization in PBS. The PECs' antioxidant and antibacterial activities were demonstrated and related to the DSGA. Diclofenac and curcumin were used as drug models: their loading reached 260 and 53 μg/mg PEC, respectively. The release of diclofenac in PBS at 37 °C followed a quasi-Fickian diffusion mechanism with release constant between 0.88 and 1.04 h-1. The curcumin release followed a slow linear increase in PBS/EtOH (60/40 V/V) with an effect of DSGA.

Abstract:Curcumin, a bioactive compound derived from the rhizome of Curcuma longa , has gained widespread attention for its potential therapeutic properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticancer effects. However, its poor aqueous solubility, instability and limited bioavailability have hindered its clinical applications. New beads formulations based on sodium alginate biopolymer (SA) and poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) were successfully prepared and evaluated as a potential drug vehicle for extended release of curcumin (Cur). Pristine and curcumin loaded calcium alginate/poly vinyl alcohol beads (CA/PVA and CA/PVA/Cur) at different compositions of SA and PVA were prepared by an ionotropic gelation method of SA followed by two freeze-thawing (FT) cycles for further crosslinking of PVA. Characterization techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV–Visible spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to confirm the successful microencapsulation of curcumin within the CA/PVA microcapsules. Furthermore, the swelling of pristine beads, pH-sensitive properties and in vitro release studies of curcumin loaded beads were investigated at 37 °C in simulated gastric fluid (SGF), simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) and simulated colonic fluid (SCF). The effect of the polymer blend ratio, the encapsulation efficiency (EE %) of curcumin, the loading capacity (LC μg/mg), the sphericity factor (SF), the antioxidant activity of the elaborated beads and their antimicrobial properties against bacteria and fungi were just as much evaluated. The obtained results indicate that the swelling and the behavior of the developed beads were influenced by the pH of the test medium and the PVA content. The introduction of PVA into the SA matrix greatly enhanced the physicochemical properties, the encapsulation efficiency and the loading capacity of the elaborated microparticles. Results also suggested that the antioxidant activity of the loaded beads (CA/PVA/Cur) showed a higher DPPH radical scavenging activity while the bacterial and fungal strains proved sensitive to the different formulations used in the assay. Abstract:Paul Mellars has long used cave and rockshelter ungulate faunal assemblages from southwestern France to argue that the early Upper Palaeolithic people of this region focused their hunting on reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), and that such specialized hunting distinguishes the Upper from the Middle Palaeolithic in at least this region. We examine this argument quantitatively, using a sample of 133 Mousterian, Châtelperronian, and Aurignacian ungulate assemblages. We show that only five Aurignacian assemblages, from three sites, stand out in terms of the degree to which their ungulate faunas are dominated by a single taxon. We also show that some Mousterian cave and rock shelter ungulate assemblages are more heavily dominated by large bovids than Aurignacian assemblages are dominated by reindeer, and that Mellars' argument is highly dependent on the exclusion of open sites from the analysis and on the numerical threshold he has selected to indicate hunting specialization.
Preparation of crystalline nanocellulose/hydroxypropyl β cyclodextrin/carboxymethyl cellulose polyelectrolyte complexes and their controlled release of neohesperidin-copper (II) in vitro

Abstract:A natural hydrogel film was prepared using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), and hydroxypropyl β cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) as reactants and citric acid as the cross-linking agent and used for the controlled release of neohesperidin-copper(II)(NH-Cu (II)). The hydrogel film was characterized by ATR-FTIR, XRD, TGA and DSC. The film showed controlled swelling behavior; the release behavior of NH-Cu(II) from the hydrogel film was also investigated in different solutions including distilled water, various salt solutions including 0.9% NaCl, and solutions having different pH values. Thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide assay and relative growth rates were adopted to evaluate the biocompatibility and cytotoxicity of the prepared hydrogel films. The results indicated that the expansion kinetics followed Fickian diffusion and Schott's second-order kinetics model. The hydrogel film exhibited enhanced mechanical properties and improved thermal stability at high temperatures due to the addition of CNC, with the amount of added CNC affecting the swelling ratio, salt sensitivity, and pH sensitivity of the hydrogel film in different solutions. Additionally, the CNC largely improved the loading and encapsulation efficiency of the hydrogel films, with the optimal CNC addition amount being 4% which yielded a loading amount of 753.75 mg/g and an accumulated release rate of 85.08%. The hydrogel film with proven cell compatibility and non-cytotoxicity can potentially be used as a drug delivery and controlled release material.

Abstract:The development of controlled-release preparations for herbal medicines remains challenging due to their complex compositions and distinct physicochemical properties. Tripterygium Wilfordii (TWHF) is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases. The main active ingredients include diterpenes, triterpenes and alkaloids. These agents have poor pharmacokinetic and physicochemical characteristics, making it difficult to achieve therapeutic benefits. In the present study, a solid dispersion of TWHF (TWHF-SD) was prepared and loaded into Gelatin-grafted-2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid hydrogels (Gelatin-g-AMPS) for controlled drug release. A total of 48 compounds were identified in TWHF-SD using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS) analysis. The hydrogel's structure and physicochemical properties were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Studies regarding hydrogel structure–function relationships were conducted, such as average weight between two or mor crosslinks (Mc), polymer volume fraction (V2,s), and diffusion coefficient (D). Hydrogel swelling and drug release from loaded hydrogels were slightly higher at pH 1.2 (swelling ratio of 60.84%, drug release of 85.08) than at pH 7.4 (swelling ratio of 46.46%, drug release of 75.03%) after 48 h. The gel fraction of hydrogel increased with increasing polymer/crosslinker ratios. Additionally, in vitro studies confirmed that the developed hydrogels were effective against bacterial growth and had good antioxidant properties.

Abstract:This study focused on synthesis of innovative hydrogels with electric field response from modified pineapple peel cellulose and hericium erinaceus chitosan and gelatin based on Schiff base reaction. A series of hydrogels were prepared by oxidized hydroxyethyl cellulose, gelatin and chitosan at different deacetylation degree via mild Schiff base reaction. Subsequently experiments towards the characterization of oxidized hydroxyethyl cellulose/gelatin/chitosan (OHGCS) hydrogel polymers were carried out by FTIR/XRD/XPS, swelling performances and electric response properties. The prepared hydrogels exhibited stable and reversible bending behaviors under repeated on-off switching of electric fields, affected by ionic strength, electric voltage and pH changes. The swelling ratio of OHGCS hydrogels was found reduced as deacetylation degree increasing and reached the maximum ratio ∼ 2250 % for OHGCS-1. In vitro drug releasing study showed the both curcumin loading capacity and release amount of Cur-OHGCS hydrogels arrived about 90 % during 6 h. Antioxidation assessments showed that the curcumin-loaded hydrogels had good antioxidation activities, in which, 10 mg Cur-OHGCS-1 hydrogel could reach to the maximum of about 90 % DPPH scavenging ratio. These results indicate the OHGCS hydrogels have potentials in sensor and drug delivery system.
