Abstract:A novel nonlinear encryption–decryption system based on a joint transform correlator (JTC) and the Gyrator transform (GT) for the simultaneous encryption and decryption of multiple images in grayscale is proposed. This security system features a high level of security for the single real-valued encrypted image and a high image quality for the multiple decrypted images. The multispectral or color images are considered as a special case, taking each color component as a grayscale image. All multiple grayscale images (original images) to encrypt are encoded in phase and placed in the input plane of the JTC at the same time without overlapping. We introduce two random-phase masks (RPMs) keys for each image to encrypt at the input plane of the JTC-based encryption system. The total number of the RPM keys is given by the double of the total number of the grayscale images to be encrypted. The use of several RPMs as keys improves the security of the encrypted image. The joint Gyrator power distribution (JGPD) is the intensity of the GT of the input plane of the JTC. We obtain only a single real-valued encrypted image with a high level of security for all the multiple grayscale images to encrypt by introducing two new suitable nonlinear modifications on the JGPD. The security keys are given by the RPMs and the rotation angle of the GT. The decryption system is implemented by two successive GTs applied to the encrypted image and the security keys given by the RPMs and considering the rotation angle of the GT. We can simultaneously retrieve the various information of the original images at the output plane of the decryption system when all the security keys are correct. Another result due to the appropriate definition of the two nonlinear operations applied on the JGPD is the retrieval of the multiple decrypted images with a high image quality. The numerical simulations are computed with the purpose of demonstrating the validity and performance of the novel encryption–decryption system.

Abstract:Joint transform correlator (JTC) can be used in motion detection for gray images. Motion measurement for color images based on JTC is proposed. Color images are decomposed into red, green and blue channels independently. New monochromic images are formed by specially arranging the three channels. The displacement of color images is calculated out utilizing JTC by measuring the new monochromic target and reference image. Experimental results are given out. The technique gives fast and precise displacement detection for color images.

Abstract:An image rotation and translation measurement technology based on a double phase-encoded joint transform correlator (DPEJTC) is proposed. The reference and the target images are Fourier transformed. Then the magnitude of the Fourier-transformed reference (MFR) and target (MFT) images are multiplied with a high-pass emphasis filter and transformed from Cartesian space into polar space. Rotation between the reference and the target image is obtained by measuring the emphasized MFR and MFT in polar coordinates by the DPEJTC. The target image is rotated by the rotation angle in the inverse orientation to get the rotation-correction target image. Finally, translation between the reference and the target image is obtained through measuring the reference and the rotation-correction target image by the DPEJTC. Abstract:Based on the joint Fresnel transform correlator, a new system for double images hiding is presented. By this security system, the dual secret images are encrypted and recorded as intensity patterns employing phase-shifting interference technology. To improve the system security, a dual images hiding method is used. By digital means, the deduced encryption complex distribution is divided into two subparts. For each image, only one subpart is reserved and modulated by a phase factor. Then these modified results are combined together and embedded into the host image. With all correct keys, by inverse Fresnel transform, the secret images can be extracted. By the phase modulation, the cross talk caused by images superposition can be reduced for their spatial parallel separation. Theoretical analyses have shown the system's feasibility. Computer simulations are performed to show the encryption capacity of the proposed system. Numerical results are presented to verify the validity and the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an improved image encryption algorithm based on double random phase encoding (DRPE). Our contribution is the design of a new algorithm which uses Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to replace Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) so as to avoid operations on complex numbers. We use a logistic map to generate random matrices instead of random phase masks in the traditional DRPE so as to decrease the number of secret keys. We tested the algorithm using five types of attacks. The results indicate that the improved algorithm overcomes weaknesses of traditional scrambling methods and it has shown strong resilience against statistical attacks. An advantage of this algorithm is that it is convenient to verify whether the encrypted images have been tampered with.

Abstract:The classical double random phase encoding technique (DRPE) is vulnerable to chosen ciphertext attacks, known-plaintext attacks and chosen-plaintext attacks for its linearity. In order to avoid the disadvantages originated from the linearity and symmetric, an improved method for multiple-image encryption based on nonlinear operations in Fourier domain is proposed. The random phase masks (RPMs) for encryption and additive keys which are determined by the original images and generated by the nonlinear operations in encryption process, are necessary for image decoding. As a result of the nonlinear operations, the increase in the number of keys, removal of linearity and high robustness could be achieved in this cryptosystem. Computer simulations are presented to demonstrate its good performance, and the security is analyzed as well.

Abstract:A double-image encryption technique that based on an asymmetric algorithm is proposed. In this method, the encryption process is different from the decryption and the encrypting keys are also different from the decrypting keys. In the nonlinear encryption process, the images are encoded into an amplitude cyphertext, and two phase-only masks (POMs) generated based on phase truncation are kept as keys for decryption. By using the classical double random phase encoding (DRPE) system, the primary images can be collected by an intensity detector that located at the output plane. Three random POMs that applied in the asymmetric encryption can be safely applied as public keys. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the validity and security of the proposed protocol. Abstract:Image encryption is an efficient technique for image protection. This paper presents a double color image encryption (DCIE) scheme based on three-dimensional (3D) Brownian motion. The architecture of diffusion, confusion and diffusion is adopted. The proposed algorithm firstly decomposes two color plain images into R, G, B components and bit planes, then conducts XOR operation between every bit plane and a key bit plane generated from carrier images; next, arranges all the bit planes into a 3D bit matrix, performs block-in 3D Brownian motion confusion and block confusion on it, which can permute the elements across bit planes and across plain images; finally, a subsequent diffusion process is utilized to improve the encryption effect. Simulation results and performance analyses illustrate that the proposed encryption scheme can simultaneously encrypt two color images into noise-like ones that have strong ability of resisting various known attacks.

Abstract:This paper proposes a double encryption system based on near-field Fourier ptychography (FP). Firstly, the encryption and decryption processes of a complex-amplitude image are realized by the principle of near-field FP while improving the imaging system. Our method uses a spatial light modulator to apply a phase shift to the object in the frequency domain to control the displacement of the object in the spatial domain, avoiding systematic errors caused by mechanically moving object. The second encryption process is designed by further utilizing the characteristics of the imaging system and can recover the object and the illumination pattern at the same time, which can decrypt another image from the object and illumination pattern recovered above. Since the second encryption is harder to be detected by the attacker, it has higher concealment and security. Finally, numerical simulations verify the feasibility, security and robustness of the proposed encryption system.

Abstract:This paper proposes a method that incorporates secret image sharing with progressive transmission based on the integer discrete cosine transform IntDCT). The idea is to apply IntDCT coefficients after a combination process as input of the (r, n)-threshold model instead of directly sharing the secret pixels. A coarse version of the secret image can be decrypted by Lagrange interpolation with a small quantity of coefficients received. Moreover, the secret image is refined with more shared data received. It can be losslessly reconstructed as long as all coefficients received. Our method can be used for progressive share images transmission. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Abstract:The optical image encryption based on multichannel fractional Fourier transform (FRT) and double random phase encoding technique is proposed. Optical principles of encoding and decoding are analyzed in detail. With this method, one can encrypt different parts of input image, respectively. The system security can be improved to some extent, not only because fractional orders and random phase masks in every channel can be set with freedom, but also because the system parameters among all channels are independent. Numerical simulation results of optical image encryption based on four channel FRT and double random phase encoding are given to verify the feasibility of the method.

Abstract:A technique for simultaneous encryption of a color and a gray-scale image is proposed, using single-channel double random-phase encoding in the fractional Fourier domain. Prior to the encryption, the segregated red, green, and blue components of the color image and the gray-scale image are encoded into a single image after changing their bit formats. The format of the encoded image is such that it cannot be perceived by the human eye. The fractional orders of the fractional Fourier transform and two random-phase masks act as key parameters for the encryption. Performance of the scheme is verified against chosen plain-text and known plain-text attacks, respectively. The effect of noise on the performance of the proposed technique is analyzed.

Abstract:Secure image transmission is critical to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, especially in an era of increasing digital threats. Chaotic systems with their inherent complexity and unpredictability, provide a promising solution for enhancing encryption security. To contribute to this field, we investigate a new 11-dimensional hyperchaotic system by taking advantage of its complex dynamical properties to strengthen security. The high dimensional of the system intensifies chaotic behaviors such as stability, attractors and sensitive to initial conditions, making it particularly suitable for encrypted transmission. Time delay is an important factor to be considered affecting the control and synchronization in nonlinear system. Additionally, time delays include the effects of past states, further increasing the unpredictability of the system. To explore these dynamics, we analyze the Lyapunov exponents, stability of equilibrium points, symmetry and dissipation. A matrix projective combination-combination synchronization scheme is proposed to synchronize four identical 11-dimensional hyperchaotic systems with time delay. Nonlinear active controllers designed based on Lyapunov stability theory are used to achieve this synchronization. This work advances an important idea for encryption and decryption algorithms, which is the secure transmission of images using affine encryption. In the affine encryption algorithm, the key is based on the solution of synchronized chaotic delayed systems and the private message of the sender and receiver. This proposed encryption and decryption algorithms have been applied on plain images. Numerical simulations and security analysis including key space, histogram, information entropy and correlation analysis are conducted to validate the theoretical results and encryption algorithm. Experimental analysis and comparisons with existing literature confirm the effectiveness and security of the proposed approach for cryptographic purposes.

Abstract:We propose a method to encrypt two covert images into an overt image based on phase-truncated Fourier transforms and phase retrieval. In this method, the two original images are self-encoded in the manner that one of the two images is directly separated into two phase masks (PMs) and used as keys for encryption, and then multiplied by a PM which is generated by using phase retrieval algorithm. At last, the whole encryption process is completed by a Fourier transform operation. In the decryption process, the image without a separation and the two PMs used as keys for encryption are all treated as encoded data. The cryptosystem is asymmetric which means the keys for encryption are different from those for decryption. Numerical simulations are presented to show the viability and good performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:We propose a novel method for multiple-image encryption using a phase retrieve algorithm and intermodulation in the Fourier domain. All plaintexts to be encoded are first encoded separately into a phase-only function in the Fourier domain with the help of the phase retrieve algorithm. Then these phase-only functions serve mutually as the second encryption keys to be intermodulated into a single image. As a result, all plaintexts can be extracted from the ciphertext without any cross-talk and the encrypted capacity is nearly unlimited. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are demonstrated by numerical results.

Abstract:A new multi-image encryption scheme with an optical implementation based on the nonlinear fractional Mellin transform is proposed, which could avoid the vulnerability of the linear encryption systems and encrypt multiple images simultaneously. In the proposed scheme, the original images are transformed into spectra by the discrete cosine transform, then the spectra are incised and spliced into a composite spectrum, and finally the composite spectrum is performed by the nonlinear fractional Mellin transform to obtain the final encrypted image. After the processing of the fractional Mellin transform, amplitude encoding and phase encoding are adopted. The orders of the fractional Mellin transform are the main keys of this multi-image encryption scheme. Simulation results demonstrate the validity and the security of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:We propose a method for image encryption by multiple-step random phase encoding with an undercover multiplexing operation. The true image is stored in a multiple record we call encodegram; and then we can reconstruct it by the use of the appropriate random phase masks and a retrieval protocol. To increase the security of the true hidden image and confuse unauthorized receivers, we add to the encodegram an encoded fake image with different content. This fake image has only a small effect on the retrieval of the true hidden image, owing to the specific property of this protocol. In the decryption step, we can reveal the true image by applying the inverse protocol to two cyphertexts, one the encodegram containing the true image along with the fake image; and the other helping to get the random phase key to achieve the true image. Computer simulations verify the validity of this method for image encryption. Digital implementation of the method makes it particularly suitable for the remote transmission of information.

Abstract:We present a study about information disclosure in phase-truncation-based cryptosystems. The main information of the original image to be encoded can be obtained by using a decryption key in the worst case. The problem cannot be thoroughly solved by imaginary part truncating, keeping the encryption keys as private keys, or applying different phase keys for different plaintexts during each encryption process as well as the phase modulation in the frequency domain. In order to eliminate the risk of unintended information disclosure, we further propose a nonlinear spatial and spectral encoding technique using a random amplitude mask (RAM). The encryption process involving two security layers can be fully controlled by a RAM. The spatial encoding of the plaintext images and the simultaneous encryption of the plaintext images and the encryption key greatly enhance the security of system, avoiding several attacks that have cracked the phase-truncation-based cryptosystems. Besides, the hybrid encryption system retains the advantage of a trap door one-way function of phase truncation. Abstract:A nonlinear color and grayscale images cryptosystem based on phase-truncated fractional Fourier transform and optical superposition principle is proposed. In order to realize simultaneous encryption of color and grayscale images, each grayscale image is first converted into two phase masks by using an optical coherent superposition, one of which is treated as a part of input information that will be fractional Fourier transformed while the other in the form of a chaotic random phase mask (CRPM) is used as a decryption key. For the purpose of optical performance, all the processes are performed through three channels, i.e., red, green, and blue. Different from most asymmetric encryption methods, the decryption process is designed to be linear for the sake of effective decryption. The encryption level of a double random phase encryption based on phase-truncated Fourier transform is enhanced by extending it into fractional Fourier domain and the load of the keys management and transmission is lightened by using CRPMs. The security of the proposed cryptosystem is discussed and computer simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed method.
