Abstract:Introduction Increased stressors and decreased job satisfaction are major challenges in nursing. Important factors of better professional quality of life include compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress. It is critical to assess these factors to help improve nurses’ clinical practices. Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between the three factors and associated factors. Methods A cross-sectional, multisite study was conducted on a convenience sample of 464 nurses working at three public hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The Professional Quality of Life Version 5 was used to collect data. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were run using SPSS. Results Scores were slightly moderate on the compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress levels. Compassion satisfaction was statistically significantly and negatively associated with burnout. A statistically significant relationship was reported between compassion satisfaction and secondary traumatic stress. Further, there was a statistically significant association between burnout and secondary traumatic stress. In regression, only the secondary traumatic stress model was statistically significant. Conclusions Nurse managers should use highly standard guidelines to reduce secondary traumatic stress levels. Further actions addressing potential issues for improving compassion satisfaction and reducing burnout levels among nurses are also recommended.

Abstract:Compassion satisfaction, the pleasure gained from assisting others in their recovery from trauma, can help reduce the effects of burnout and secondary traumatic stress. As such, nurses' job satisfaction can be increased by increasing compassion satisfaction and decreasing compassion fatigue. This study examined the incidence of compassion fatigue and other influencing variables, such as compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress, among Saudi nurses. This was a cross-sectional study using convenience sampling. Participants comprised 177 registered nurses from various nursing departments. Data collection included the Professional Quality of Life Scale based on lifestyle, demographic details, and occupation-related questions. The averages of scores for the variables, compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress, were recorded (37.1 ± 7.4, 25.7 ± 7.5, and 26.7 ± 6.4). Participants aged 36 or older comprised a negative factor for compassion satisfaction, while years of nursing experience and higher job satisfaction were favorable predictors. Together, these three variables accounted for 30.3% of the overall variation. Low job satisfaction and poor sleep negatively affected burnout, accounting for 39.8% of the total variance. The results offer insights into identifying the risks of compassion fatigue in nurses and help design strategies to address burnout and secondary traumatic stress while enhancing their compassion satisfaction levels.

A structural equation model analysis of the association between work-related stress, burnout and job-related affective well-being among nurses in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract:Aim: To test a model that examines the direct and indirect effects of work-related stress on job-related affective well-being through compassion fatigue. Background: Despite the danger of infection, nurses' dedication to their work appears to be an innate desire to provide care for patients with COVID-19. Nonetheless, the universal effort to control the outbreak has led to extended work hours and workload, which has been defined as the primary contributor to work-related stress among nurses and might impact their job-related affective well-being. Method: We used a cross-sectional exploratory design. Data were collected using an online survey from 161 nurses working in the Saudi health care system. The survey included obtaining information on demographics and work-related stress using Professional Quality of Life Scale version 5 to measure compassion fatigue as well as a job-related affective well-being scale. Results: Work-related stress had significant negative direct effects on job-related affective well-being and positive effects on compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue had significantly negative direct effects on job-related affective well-being. Work-related stress exerted negative indirect effects on job-related affective well-being through compassion fatigue, which partially mediated the relationship. Conclusion: The findings supported the model and added to our understanding regarding the impact of work-related stress on nurses. Implications for nursing management: Stress reduction is an important element in improving staff outcomes as well as job-related affective well-being.

Abstract:Purpose. This study aimed to (1) assess the levels and associations of workplace spirituality (WPS), compassion satisfaction (CS), burnout (BO), and secondary traumatic stress (STS) among Iranian nurses; and (2) identify the impact of WPS components on CS, BO, and STS while controlling for demographic variables. Design and Methods. In this descriptive, cross‐sectional, and correlational study, 295 nurses were selected via proportionate stratified sampling from five hospitals affiliated with the Arak University of Medical Sciences in Iran from June 2022 to December 2022. The scale of workplace spirituality and Professional Quality of Life version 5 (ProQOL-5) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using SPSS24 and descriptive and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression). Findings. The mean scores of WPS, CS, BO, and STS were 63.27, 36.55, 27.31, and 29.58, respectively. The highest percentages of nurses reported moderate CS, BO, and STS levels, reaching rates of 76.3%, 80%, and 86.1%, respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient showed that CS had a negative relationship with BO and STS. There was a direct correlation between BO and STS. Participants who reported higher levels of WPS had higher CS and lower BO scores. Results of multiple regression analyses indicate that the model of WPS components and control variables explains 42.7, 34, and 8.6 percent of the variance of CS, BO, and STS, respectively. Higher “meaningful work” is associated with higher CS and lower BO and STS among nurses. Participants higher in “sense of community” had higher CS scores. Higher “alignment with organizational values” is associated with higher STS. Practice Implications. According to the study results, it is possible to provide a suitable platform for improving nurses’ professional quality of life by strengthening workplace spirituality.

Abstract:Background This study examines the professional quality of life (ProQOL), including compassion satisfaction (CS) and compassion fatigue (CF), burnout (BO) and secondary traumatic stress (STS) among registered nurses in the context of pediatric care in Riyadh city in Saudi Arabia. Methods This study utilised a random multistage sampling method and a survey to collect data from 250 participants on personal characteristics, work-related aspects, lifestyle, and professional quality of life. Results The study participants were all female. Only 2.0% were under 25, with 27.2% aged between 25 and 30 years, 24.0% aged between 31 and 35, and 26.4% over 40 years old. The majority, 74%, were non-Saudis. The participants reported low compassion satisfaction (CS) and compassion fatigue (CF) levels. The CS, burnout (BO), and secondary traumatic stress (STS) scores were 3.23 ± 0.764, 2.75 ± 0.68, and 2.69 ± 0.54, respectively. The study found a significant difference in ProQOL level based on factors such as age, nationality, previous experience, department, shift length, overtime work, state of overtime (mandatory versus optional), and salary. Conclusions Working with vulnerable groups poses unique challenges for pediatric nurses. The nationality, salary, and state of overtime were found to be significantly different when compared to CS scores. Additionally, age, department, previous experience, shift length, and overtime work were very different compared to CF scores. However, lifestyle factors did not affect CS and CF scores significantly. Implications To improve their well-being and interest in activities, pediatric nurses should practice self-compassion and utilise available educational resources such as workshops. They should also strive to achieve a work-life balance and adopt healthy habits to reduce CF.

Abstract:We investigate the properties of a recently proposed gradient echo memory (GEM) scheme for information mapping between optical and atomic systems. We show that GEM can be described by the dynamic formation of polaritons in k space. This picture highlights the flexibility and robustness with regards to the external control of the storage process. Our results also show that, as GEM is a frequency-encoding memory, it can accurately preserve the shape of signals that have large time-bandwidth products, even at moderate optical depths. At higher optical depths, we show that GEM is a high fidelity multimode quantum memory.
Experiences, Perceptions, and Coping Patterns of Emergency Department Nurses with Occupational Stressors in Saudi Arabian Hospitals: Mixed-Method Study

Abstract:Extended working hours, a complicated workplace environment, and engagement in numerous physical and psychological stressors have been associated with the stressful nature of the nursing profession. Only a few studies have provided some insight into workplace stress and coping strategies adopted by nurses in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries. Therefore, this study utilized a mixed-method design to explore the numerous factors that lead to stress among emergency nurses, their experience and perception of stress, and the coping mechanisms they find useful. A survey containing four domains and 86 items was adapted, pilot tested, and validated. The quantitative phase recruited 296 nurses who returned completed questionnaires, and then 21 nurses were interviewed for the qualitative phase. In total, 89.5% (n = 265) of the participants were female, 51% (n = 151) were aged 20–29 years, 83% (n = 246) were non-Saudi nationals, 49% (n = 145) were married, and 82% (n = 245) had a bachelor's degree. The most common causes of occupational stress were work overload, personnel shortages, and inadequate pay. The qualitative phase data revealed five primary themes, including increased workload, rising living costs despite equal compensation, and staff shortages as main stressors. In addition, the study found that praying and spending quality time with friends are the primary coping techniques among nurses. The study results contribute to a better understanding of nurses' working conditions in the emergency department. Additionally, they may contribute to the development of policies and practice reforms to improve Saudi nurses' well-being, health, and overall work experience.

Abstract:Background: Quality of working life (QWL) is a multidimensional concept that describes an employee’s satisfaction with several work life elements. Quality of nurse working life is considered as a stepping stone for health services improvement, as it affects job satisfaction which, in turn, affects the performance of nurses. Understanding and investigating the nurses’ quality of work life in Saudi Arabia is needed for improvement actions. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the quality of nursing work life (QNWL) among nurses working in Saudi Arabia and to determine the association between demographic variables and quality of work life among nurses. Methods: It was a cross-sectional design using Brooks’ quality of nursing work life survey. It was distributed among nurses over the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Results: There were 860 nurses participating in the study. The mean total score for the participants was 174.5+/− 30.3, indicating moderate to high QNWL. The highest score achieved by the nurses was for the work world context (4.29) while the lowest score was for work design dimension (3.92). The study revealed that nationality, income, and shift duration, having a dependent person, and having family accompany the nurse as significant factors affecting the quality of work life among the nurses. Conclusion: A novel contribution of the current study was that the demographic characteristics of the participants, including nationality, income, having family accompany the nurse, having an independent child, or spouse or parents, and shift duration, tended to have a statistically significant correlation with QNWL. The comprehensive results of this study have practical implications whereby authority bodies can create regulatory plans for enhancing satisfaction and performance over the sole utilization of job satisfaction measurements and can thereby improve nurses’ retention and turnover rates.
The mediating role of learning motivation in the relationship among perceived stress and emotional regulation among Saudi nursing students in clinical practice

Abstract:Background: Nursing students often face high levels of stress due to demanding responsibilities during clinical placement. Emotional regulation, the ability to manage and regulate one's emotions effectively, is crucial for nursing students in dealing with stress and maintaining their overall well-being. Additionally, learning motivation plays a vital role in students' engagement and academic success. The current investigation aimed at studying the link that exists among stress, learning motivation, and emotional regulation among Saudi undergraduate nursing students. The study also aimed at investigating the sequential mediating effects that motivation might perform in this association. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional methodology was used in the present research, which recruited 367 Saudi undergraduate nursing students. Results: The results of the ANOVA showed that the level of perceived stress was linearly and negatively correlated with emotional regulation and motivation. Upon conducting structural equation modeling, significant direct and indirect effect pathways were identified between perceived stress, emotional regulation, and motivation, while only indirect pathways were identified between perceived stress and emotional regulation. Conclusions: This study provides evidence of the mediating role of learning motivation in the relationship between perceived stress and emotional regulation among Saudi nursing students. The results highlight the negative impact of stress on emotional regulation and learning motivation and emphasize the importance of addressing motivational factors in interventions aimed at enhancing emotional regulation among nursing students.
Compassion fatigue prevalence and risk factors among Saudi psychiatric nurses: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:In recent times, compassion fatigue is increasingly being recognized as a damaging outcome associated with the stress experienced by psychiatric nurses. In addition to affecting their job performance work-related stress undermines nurses' physical and emotional well-being. However, there is a lack of research on compassion fatigue that specifically focuses on psychiatric nurses working in Saudi Arabia. This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with compassion fatigue among Saudi psychiatric nurses. The study participants were asked to complete a demographic questionnaire and the Arabic form of the Professional Quality of Life Scale. Statistical analyses, including one-way ANOVA, t-tests, the Levene test, and multiple linear regression, were employed to assess variables related to compassion fatigue. The survey spanned 158 psychiatric nurses from the Mental Health Complex located in Riyadh City. The mean scores for compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress were 39.72 ± 6.881, 24.29 ± 5.386, and 26.94 ± 6.973, respectively. The analysis revealed that variables such as age range (36-55 years) and an associated degree or lower explained 5.2% of the variance in compassion satisfaction. Age range (18-25 years), exercise frequency, and years of nursing experience collectively accounted for 8.4% of the variables contributing to burnout. The age range (25 to 35 years) and working night shifts also explained 5% of the variance in secondary traumatic stress. The findings indicated that compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress among the population of psychiatric nurses working in Saudi Arabia were at a moderate level. A higher frequency of healthy lifestyle practices, such as regular exercise, and being in an older age range, were positively associated with compassion satisfaction and negatively associated with burnout and secondary traumatic stress.

Abstract:Background: Psychosocial hazards in the workplace were identified as a considerable risk to employee mental health as well as their general well-being. Few studies were found to examine its relationship with work engagement and mental health. Thus, this study examines the relationships between psychosocial factors, work engagement, and mental health within the faculty in Saudi Arabia using structural equation modeling. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample size of 375 faculty. Data collection was done using a self-administered online survey that included instruments such as the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ), Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). SmartPLS 3 software facilitated data analysis and included the assessment of factors. Structural equation modelling was used to examine the interplay between psychosocial factors, work engagement, and mental health. Results: The robust measurement model was characterized by high loadings (0.719 to 0.970), Cronbach's alpha (0.595 to 0.933), and composite reliability (0.807 to 0.968). Convergent and discriminant validity were confirmed using AVE and various criteria. The fit of the saturated model was superior. Burnout explained significant variance (0.585) with predictive relevance for all constructs. Notably, the impact of burnout on family conflict and the influence of stress on burnout were found to have significant effect sizes. Conclusion: The study uses structural equation modeling to examine the relationships between psychosocial factors, work engagement, and mental health among faculty in Saudi Arabia. The robust measurement model demonstrated high reliability and validity, while the saturated model demonstrated excellent fit. These findings contribute to our understanding of psychosocial dynamics, work engagement, and overall health among faculty in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract:Background: Job stress is regarded as a harmful factor for both employees and organizations, which negatively affects the effectiveness of employees and efficiency of organizational performance. Many of occupations are exposed to different types of stress in the work place environment. One of these occupations is nursing, which occupies essential role and vital parts of the effectiveness of health care system. Objective: To investigate the relationship between the effect of job stress on job satisfaction for nurses. Method: A descriptive study was conducted among nursing staff in mental health hospitals in Sulaimani. The process of the necessary data collection began from 25th May - 10th July 2016 and was obtained through self-report convenient sample of (75) nurses. They distributed in three hospitals Soz Mental Hospital, Shahid Salahi Muhandis Hospital and Mental Health Center / Teaching Hospital by using questionnaire were divided into three parts: First, socio-demographic characteristics consisted of eight items. Second, Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS). This consisted of (57) items ranged in nine sub scales. Third, Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS), which included 36 items in nine subscales. Descriptive data and inferential data were used for analysis. validity of the questionnaire was determined through panel of (11) experts in the different fields and work settings. Results: The analysis of the data figured out that total average job stress among nursing staff at the mental hospitals was "Occasionally stressful- frequently stressful". The subscale death and dying from job stress took the highest level. Nursing staff had job satisfaction, subscale payment (salary) from job satisfaction took the lowest level. There were significant statistical relationships between level of job stress subscales and demographic characteristics except training course dimension. There was no statistical significant correlation between total ENSS and total JSS. Conclusions: The death of the patients played an important role in perceiving job stress. The lack and delay in salary were a major factor of decreasing job satisfaction, although the level of job stress among nurses does not highly recorded. Stressors and Coping Strategies of the Saudi Nursing Students in the Clinical Training: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Nursing students often encounter high levels of stress through clinical practice that may cause psychological or emotional problems during their professional life eventually affecting the quality of patient care they provide. The aims of the current study were to identify the level and types of stress perceived by nursing students in their clinical practice and to identify the coping strategies that students used to relieve their stress. A descriptive, cross-sectional design was used in this study. A total of 200 students who were enrolled in the nursing program were taken as study respondents. Research data were collected using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Coping Behavior Inventory (CBI). Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA test, Pearson’s test, and independent sample t -test on SPSS version 22. Findings indicated that nursing students experienced a high level of stress. The most common coping strategy utilized by the students was problem solving, while avoidance was the least frequently used one. Saudi nursing students experienced stress levels above the mean in clinical training. The most common stressors were related to assignments and workload. The study recommends that clinical curriculum requirements and the workload of nursing students should be reviewed.
Mechanical determinants of the minimum energy cost of gradient running in humans.

Abstract:The metabolic cost and the mechanical work of running at different speeds and gradients were measured on five human subjects. The mechanical work was partitioned into the internal work (Wint) due to the speed changes of body segments with respect to the body centre of mass and the external work (Wext) due to the position and speed changes of the body centre of mass in the environment. Wext was further divided into a positive part (W+ext) and a negative part (W-ext), associated with the energy increases and decreases, respectively, over the stride period. For all constant speeds, the most economical gradient was -10.6 +/-0.5% (S.D., N = 5) with a metabolic cost of 146.8 +/- 3.8 ml O2 kg-1 km-1. At each gradient, there was a unique W+ext/W-ext ratio (which was 1 in level running), irrespective of speed, with a tendency for W-ext and W+ext to disappear above a gradient of +30% and below a gradient of -30%, respectively. Wint was constant within each speed from a gradient of -15% to level running. This was the result of a nearly constant stride frequency at all negative gradients. The constancy of Wint within this gradient range implies that Wint has no role in determining the optimum gradient. The metabolic cost C was predicted from the mechanical experimental data according to the following equation: [formula: see text] where eff- (0.80), eff+ (0.18) and effi (0.30) are the efficiencies of W-ext, W+ext and Wint, respectively, and el- and el+ represent the amounts of stored and released elastic energy, which are assumed to be 55J step-1. The predicted C versus gradient curve coincides with the curve obtained from metabolic measurements. We conclude that W+ext/W-ext partitioning and the eff+/eff- ratio, i.e. the different efficiency of the muscles during acceleration and braking, explain the metabolic optimum gradient for running of about -10%.

The level of organizational commitment of healthcare workers, including nurses, is closely connected to the productivity and quality of care provided by healthcare institutions. The aims of the present study were to explore nurses' levels of organizational commitment and the impact of key sociodemographic variables on this issue. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive quantitative study was conducted at a major public hospital in Saudi Arabia during April and May 2019. A revised validated version of the three-component model (TCM) questionnaire was self-administered to a systematic random sample of 384 nurses. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Mean scores were compared by independent variables using an independent sample t -test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Multiple linear regression analysis was performed. Results: Out of 384 participants, 337 responded, yielding a response rate of 88%. Overall, 47.88% of the nurses agreed with all items related to the organizational commitment scale, while only 22.3% disagreed. There was a significant difference in the levels of commitment among nurses in the various age groups ( p = 0.024). The continuous commitment subscale received the largest number of positive responses. Conclusion: Most nurses showed a moderate level of job commitment. Greater organizational commitment was positively related to sociodemographic variables, such as age and nationality, and the only positive predictor of overall organizational commitment was age. Nursing policy makers should enhance the organizational commitment of nurses by developing strategies to recruit, attract, and retain committed nurses. Clinical environmental stressors and coping behaviors among undergraduate nursing students in Saudi Arabia: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to explore the level of stress, stressors sources, and coping strategies used among female Saudi undergraduate nursing students during their clinical practice. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used. Using a convenience sampling technique, female nursing students in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Alahsa who enrolled in clinical courses were recruited from a governmental university from January to May 2022. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Coping Behavior Inventory (CBI). Results: The degree of stress perceived by the 332 participants ranged from 3 to 99 (54.77 ± 0.95). Stress from assignments and workload was the most common type of stressor perceived by nursing students, with a score of 2.61 ± 0.94, followed by stress from the environment, with a score of 1.18 ± 0.47. Meanwhile, the students used staying optimistic as the most adopted strategy, with a score of 2.38 ± 0.95, followed by the transference strategy, a score of 2.36 ± 0.71, and the problem-solving strategy scored 2.35 ± 1.01. The coping strategy of avoidance is positively correlated with all of the stressor types (P < 0.01), while the problem-solving strategy is negatively correlated with stress from peers and daily life (r = -0.126, P < 0.05). Transference is positively correlated with stress from assignments and workload (r = 0.121, P < 0.05), and stress from teachers and nursing staff (r = 0.156, P < 0.01). Lastly, staying optimistic is negatively correlated with stress from taking care of patients (r = -0.149, P < 0.01), and with stress from lack of professional knowledge and skills (r = -0.245, P < 0.01). Conclusions: These research findings are significant for nursing educators to identify nursing students' main stressors and coping strategies used. Effective countermeasures should be taken to promote a healthy learning environment, decrease the level of stressors and improve students' coping strategies during clinical practice.
An assessment of nurse-patient therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction with nursing care in multiple healthcare settings: A Study in Saudi Arabia

Abstract:Background: Effective therapeutic communication between nurses and patients is a fundamental element of high-quality healthcare. This study examines factors influencing therapeutic communication, including professional, contextual/situational, and patient-related aspects, while also assessing patient satisfaction with nursing care and the communication process.Methods: Employing a correlational cross-sectional design, a sample of 80 nurses and 99 patients under their care was selected using purposive sampling methods. This study encompassed diverse healthcare settings in Hail, Saudi Arabia. Data were collected through two survey questionnaires: the Nurse-Patient Therapeutic Communication Questionnaire for nurses and the Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire for patients. The data analysis was conducted using SPSS v29.0, with findings presented using descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The professional dimension had a mean score of 5.56 ± 1.38, the contextual and situational dimension had a mean score of 5.69 ± 1.42, and the patient-related dimension had a mean score of 5.60 ± 1.46. Age, education level, and workplace significantly influenced all dimensions (all p < .001). Patient satisfaction scores ranged from 1.87 to 5.00, with an average score of 4.07 ± 0.72. Interestingly, patient satisfaction tended to increase with longer stays, r(97) = .23, p = .024, with the length of stay explaining 5.11% of the variability in patient satisfaction.Conclusions: This study identifies three key dimensions—professional, contextual/situational, and patient-related—as significant factors in nurse-patient communication. Demographic variables, including age, education, and workplace, also played pivotal roles. Notably, patient satisfaction levels were consistently high and positively correlated with longer stays. To foster patient-centred care, it is recommended to prioritize customized communication training and sustain nurturing interactions throughout the patient's care journey.
The Mediation Roles of Coping Modalities on the Relationship Between Stress and Quality of Life Among Jordanian Nurses

Abstract:Nurses are at the frontline, dealing with people's most immense healthcare needs in stressful and demanding work environments. Consequently, it is essential to thoroughly examine how various coping mechanisms might affect the relationship between stress and quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to examine the mediation effect of both problem-focused coping (PFC) and emotion-focused coping (EFC) mechanisms on mitigating the effect of stress on the QOL among Jordanian nurses. A multisite cross-sectional descriptive correlational design was used in this study. An online survey was completed by 203 nurses using a convenience sampling technique between October 2023 and January 2024. The study included nurses working in different Jordanian healthcare sectors including governmental, private, and university-affiliated hospitals. Several measures were used to collect data, including questionnaires on sociodemographics, QOL, coping, and stress. Two models were hypothesized for this study. The two models were analyzed using Andrew Hayes Process Macro Model 4 for testing the mediation effects. Additionally, descriptive and correlational analyses were run prior to the main analysis. The results showed that coping significantly mediated the relationship between stress and QOL with variations between PFC and EFC. In conclusion, psychological distress symptoms were common among Jordanian nurses; psychological distress, coping, and QOL are correlating variables. Nurses' stress levels and coping modalities can predict QOL with a superior effect of PFC compared with EFC. Strategies should be put in place to improve effective coping to improve nurses' QOL. The results of this study have important implications for nursing education, practice, future research, and policy.

Abstract:Purpose: Nursing profession is considered as a stressful and demanding job. The purpose of this research was to determine stressors types and degrees over two data collection periods in 2015-2016. Methods: This is a quantitative descriptive research study. A purposive sample of 55 female nursing students (complete 4 th year cohort) from Princess Nourah University took part in this study. Results: The results highlight that the most influential cause of stress were factors related to taking care of patients, teachers and nursing staff. Moreover, nursing students reported increased level of stress comparing them in two different time periods. Conclusions: To overcome these clinical stressors, it requires students to be equipped with competent knowledge, skills and experience in dealing with the changing needs of patients’ condition. Future research should explore nursing students’ beliefs and causes of stress and how it can be avoided by conducting a qualitative research study.
