Abstract:Component modulation strategies are widely used to modulate the PL properties of fluorescent materials. Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have many advantages for optical applications, one of which is the excellent structural tunability. In this work, a series of Cs2InCl5·H2O:xCr3+ phosphors were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, obtaining a broadband near-infrared (NIR) emission in the 800-1200 nm range with a peak at 910 nm under 360 nm excitation. Unlike the widely used B-site cation modulation, co doping Rb+/K+ at A site improves the structural rigidity and thus enhances the emission intensity and luminescence thermal stability of the Cs2InCl5·H2O:Cr3+ phosphor. In particular, the emission intensity of (Cs0.7K0.3)2InCl5·H2O:0.25Cr3+ at 125 °C can maintain 52% of that at room temperature. Due to its excellent performance, (Cs0.7K0.3)2InCl5·H2O:0.25Cr3+ phosphor in combination with 380 nm blue light chips shows potential applications in non-destructive testing and night vision. This strategy provides new ideas for the modulation of MHPs-based fluorescent materials in the future.

Abstract:Although the UK's health and social care system has always been geared towards dealing with crises, evidence suggests that this is becoming increasingly the case. Changes in health care and the prioritisation of scarce resources have resulted in a situation where those with low level needs are often left unsupported until they experience a major life crisis. To rectify this situation, the government has introduced a range of policies designed to emphasise the need for preventive work. Against this background, this paper focuses on the issue of emergency hospital admissions, critiquing the research methodologies that have been used to investigate the scope for preventive work in this area. Despite the use of more sophisticated and objective research tools, there is a need to develop new ways of researching emergency admissions which build on the strengths of existing approaches while at the same time incorporating more of a user perspective.

Abstract:Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP) is a rare benign surface osteocartilaginous lesion, mainly affecting the small bones of the hands and feet. Here, we present a case of a young male with a mass in the lib that originally was thought to be a chondrosarcoma. After pathology consultation in our hospital, the final pathology diagnosis was BPOP, also called Nora’s lesion. The location of the lesion of the patient was atypical. To our knowledge, this was the first report of BPOP in the rib.

Abstract:Broadband near-infrared (NIR) phosphors are crucial components of NIR phosphor-converted light-emitting diode (pc-LED) sources for various smart spectroscopy applications. However, developing an efficient, tunable, and inexpensive broadband NIR phosphor with sufficient spectral coverage remains a great challenge. In this work, a cubic phosphate K2AlTi(PO4)3 with highly structural rigidity was chosen as host material for Cr3+ substitution to create an efficient NIR emission. Synthesizing this compound, the obtained material exhibits a broadband NIR emission covering 700-1200 nm with a peak wavelength ranging from 820 to 860 nm depending on the Cr3+ substituting concentration. The Cr3+ concentration optimized sample possesses a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 76.4% with an emission peak centered at 857 nm and a full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of 184 nm under 464 nm exaction, demonstrating an efficient and relatively long-wavelength NIR emission with wide spectral coverage. This broadband NIR emission is mainly derived from a single kind of emission center deduced from spectral analysis, luminescence dynamics, and first-principle calculations. Using this material, the fabricated NIR pc-LED device presents an excellent NIR output power and NIR photoelectric conversion efficiency, making this material attractive in practical applications of night-vision and bioimaging. Therefore, this work not only provides a broadband NIR material with superiorities of low cost, high efficiency, wide-range tunability, wide spectral coverage, and relatively long-wavelength NIR emission for spectroscopy applications but also highlights some clues to discover this kind of materials.

Abstract:By partially substituting Ga3+ for Al3+ in K‐β‐Al2O3:Cr, the photoluminescence intensity of solid solution phosphors is enhanced due to the Al/Ga–6O octahedron volume and distortion variation induced crystal field strength variation and the forbidden d–d transition being broken. The internal/external quantum efficiency (IQE/EQE) of optimal KA0.4G0.6O:Cr reaches 88.9%/50.8% with high thermal stability (77.4%@150 °C). Near‐infrared (NIR) phosphors are enablers for NIR phosphor‐converted light‐emitting diodes (pc‐LEDs). However, fewer NIR‐emitting phosphors with both high internal/external quantum efficiency (IQE/EQE) and thermal stability are discovered, which obstructs the promotion of NIR pc‐LEDs. Herein, by partially replacing Al3+ in K‐β‐Al2O3:2Cr3+ with Ga3+, the photoluminescence (PL) intensity of the solid solution K1+δ(Al0.4Ga0.6)11O17:2Cr3+, (KA0.4G0.6O:Cr) phosphor is increased 2.75 and 1.25 times that of end‐members K1+δAl11O17:2Cr3+ (KAO:Cr) and K1+δGa11O17:2Cr3+ (KGO:Cr). The IQE/EQE of optimal KA0.4G0.6O:Cr reaches 88.9%/50.8% with high thermal stability (77.4%@150 °C). The PL intensity enhancement is due to the Al/Ga‐6O octahedral volume and distortion variation caused by the substitution of Ga3+ for Al3+ in K1+δ(Al1‐y,Gay)11O17:2Cr3+ (KA1‐yGyO:Cr), which leads to the forbidden d–d transition being broken and crystal field strength varied. Finally, a NIR pc‐LED device fabricated based on KA0.4G0.6O:Cr NIR‐emitting phosphor and blue chip reaches an electro‐optical efficiency of 16.3% under a drive current of 100 mA. Meanwhile, non‐destructive detection and plant germination applications of the NIR pc‐LED are demonstrated. These results prove that KA0.4G0.6O:Cr is a promising NIR phosphor for diverse applications.

Abstract:Near-infrared phosphor-converted light emitting diodes (NIR pc-LEDs) are considered as desirable NIR light sources to satisfy current needs owing to their numerous remarkable features. Nevertheless, as an essential component, previously reported NIR phosphors with broadband emission often suffer from inferior efficiency or thermal stability, therefore restricting their use and promotion. Herein, a novel Cr3+-doped garnet phosphor Y2CaScAl3GeO12:Cr3+ (YCSAG:Cr3+) is developed via regulating the near-neighbor coordination polyhedron. Under the excitation of blue light, it exhibits a broadband NIR emission peaking near 800 nm with a full width at half-maximum (fwhm) exceeding 150 nm, owing to the increased structural distortion of the octahedron. Particularly, due to the enhanced local structural rigidity induced by lattice shrinkage, the optimal sample achieves a balance of high internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of approximately 83% and thermal stability of approximately 90% at 393 K, facilitating its practical application as an NIR light source. Eventually, using the typical YCSAG:0.04Cr3+ phosphor and 450 nm blue LED chip, a high-performance NIR pc-LED device has been manufactured, demonstrating potential applications in anticounterfeiting and night vision.

Abstract:With the increasing demand for highly efficient and easily valuable near-infrared (NIR) illumination in many fields, such as night vision, agriculture and medical sectors, it is of great importance to develop new NIR light sources. Here, we have successfully synthesized a novel broadband NIR phosphor by incorporating Cr3+ ions into the CaY2ScZrAl3O12 (CYSZA) matrix. Under excitation at 455 nm, CYSZA:0.11Cr3+ exhibits a broad emission ranging from 650 to 1150 nm and has excellent thermal stability (98%@375 K). Time-resolved spectroscopy (77 K) and peak fitting analysis reveal that the broad NIR emission is attributed to the Cr3+ ions occupying the [ScO6] and [ZrO6] sites and forming two luminescent centers. The incorporation of Ce3+ ions into the CYSZA:0.11Cr3+ phopshor further improves the luminescence efficiency, resulting in a significant increase in internal quantum efficiency (IQE) from 66% to 88%. The outstanding properties of CYSZA:Cr3+, Ce3+ phosphors make them promising candidates when combined with blue chips for applications in night vision and non-destructive testing technology.

Abstract:Trivalent chromium ion activated broadband near-infrared (NIR) luminescence materials have shown great application prospect as next-generation NIR light source, but it remains a challenge to improve the luminescence efficiency. Herein, novel K2LiScF6:Cr3+ and K2LiScF6:Cr3+/Mn4+ broadband fluoride NIR phosphors are designed and prepared by a combination of hydrothermal and cation exchange method for the first time. The crystal structure and photoluminescence (PL) properties of K2LiScF6:Cr3+ are studied in detail, which shows strong absorption in blue light region (λex = 432 nm) and broadband NIR emission (λem = 770 nm) with a PL quantum efficiency of 77.6%. More importantly, the NIR emission of Cr3+ can be enhanced by co-doping of Mn4+, which may provide an alternative way for improving the PL intensity of Cr3+-activated broadband NIR phosphor. At last, a NIR phosphor-converted LED (pc-LED) device is fabricated using the as-prepared NIR phosphor and its application in bio-imaging and night vision has been evaluated.

Abstract:Near-infrared light can be widely used in non-destructive testing, sensing, and night vision. Recently, phosphor-converted LED (pc-LED) based on near-infrared (NIR) phosphor have attracted considerable interest. In this work, tetragonal structured K 3 AlF 6 :Cr 3+ phosphors were synthesized using the co-precipitation method. Cr 3+ ions occupy the octahedral position, and its Dq/B value (the parameter describing the crystal field strength) is calculated to be 2.08, suggesting a weak crystal field. Upon blue light excitation (430 nm), a broadband NIR emission is observed in the range of 650–900 nm, corresponding to the spin-allow 4 T 2 → 4 A 2 transition. Increasing Cr 3+ concentration, red-shift is observed in its NIR emission with the maximum emission intensity at 5 mol% Cr 3+ . Its activation energy ΔE is calculated to be 0.14 eV. Combining with blue InGaN chips, the fabricated NIR pc-LEDs based on K 3 AlF 6 :Cr 3+ phosphor exhibit excellent optoelectronic performance, showing potential applications in biological detection.

Abstract:Recently, trivalent chromium ion doped phosphors have exhibited significant application potential in broadband near-infrared (NIR) phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs). However, developing an NIR phosphor with both broad emission bandwidth and excellent luminescence thermal stability is still a great challenge. Here, we demonstrate an NIR phosphor, ScF3:Cr3+, which can fulfill both conditions simultaneously. The prepared phosphors show broadband emission in the range of 700 to 1100 nm, with a full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 140 nm peaking at 853 nm. These phosphors also demonstrate an excellent luminescence thermal stability (the emission intensity of ScF3:Cr3+ keeps 85.5% at 150 °C compared with the value at room temperature). An NIR pc-LED based on blue LED chips was fabricated and tested. The results show that the NIR pc-LED can yield strong broadband NIR emission. This work not only provides a promising phosphor for the application of NIR pc-LEDs but also has important guiding significance for effect of synthesis conditions on the luminescence properties of Cr3+-doped fluorides.

Abstract:Near-infrared (NIR) phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) are considered promising light sources for night vision, food analysis, biomedicine, and plant growth. Yet, the application potential of this technology is vulnerable to the function degradation of the phosphors used, such as thermal quenching, which needs to be addressed urgently. Herein, the NIR phosphors K2LiMF6:Cr3+ (M = Al, Ga, In) with a cubic double-perovskite structure synthesized by a green hydrofluoric acid-free hydrothermal method exhibit outstanding thermal stability. Under 450 nm excitation, the as-synthesized K2LiMF6:Cr3+ phosphors all exhibited broadband NIR emission covering 650-1000 nm peaking at 755-780 nm. The prepared K2LiAlF6:Cr3+ phosphor shows a unique zero-thermal quenching performance (I-423 K/I-298 K = 102%). The comprehensive effects of a wide band gap, large thermal energy barrier, weak electron-phonon coupling effect, and high structural rigidity are responsible for the suppression of thermal quenching in this material. The output power of the NIR pc-LED device reached 285 mW at 100 mA. This series of phosphors has promise in night vision and bioimaging applications.
A General Ammonium Salt Assisted Synthesis Strategy for Cr 3+ ‐Doped Hexafluorides with Highly Efficient Near Infrared Emissions

Abstract:The discovery of highly efficient broadband near infrared (NIR) emission material is urgent and crucial for constructing NIR lighting sources and emerging applications. Herein, a series of NIR emission hexafluorides A2BMF6:Cr3+ (A = Na, K, Rb, Cs; B = Li, Na, K, Cs; M = Al, Ga, Sc, In) peaking at ≈733–801 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of ≈98–115 nm are synthesized by a general ammonium salt assisted synthesis strategy. Benefiting from the pre-ammoniation of the trivalent metal sources, the Cr3+ can be more efficiently doped into the A2BMF6 and simultaneously prevent the generation of the competitive phase. Particularly, Na3ScF6:Cr3+ (λem = 774 nm, FWHM ≈ 108 nm) with optimal Cr3+-doping concentration of 35.96% shows a high internal quantum efficiency of 91.5% and an external quantum efficiency of ≈40.82%. A lighting emitting diode (LED) device with a NIR output power of ≈291.05 mW at 100 mA driven current and high photoelectric conversion efficiency of 20.94% is fabricated. The general synthesis strategy opens up new avenues for the exploration of Cr3+-doped high efficiency phosphors, and the as-obtained record NIR output power demonstrates for NIR LED lighting sources applications.

Abstract:The exploration of Cr3+-doped near-infrared (NIR) phosphors for light-emitting diodes has attracted widespread attention. In this work, we present a fluoride double perovskite K2LiScF6:Cr3+ NIR-emitting phosphor through a co-precipitation method. It was found that the Cr3+ activators undergo a weak crystal field and present a NIR emission band peaking at 768 nm under blue light excitation (430 nm). Meanwhile, the K2LiScF6:Cr3+ exhibits a high activation energy (0.537 eV), a weak electron-phonon coupling (EPC) effect and a remarkable photoluminescence thermal stability at 423 K, with an intensity of 95.1% of that at room temperature. Profiting from the luminescent properties, clear night vision images and human palm vein photographs were realized by coating the K2LiScF6:Cr3+ phosphor on a blue InGaN chip and using it as a lighting source, suggesting its applicability in light-emitting diodes for NIR spectroscopy applications.

Abstract:Herein, NIR A2KAlF6:Cr3+ (A = Rb, Cs) phosphors prepared by a co-precipitation method exhibit broad excitation in the blue region and broad NIR emission with high quantum efficiencies (64% for Rb2KAlF6:0.025Cr3+, and 60% for Cs2KAlF6:0.02Cr3+). Furthermore, Rb2KAlF6:Cr3+ and Cs2KAlF6:Cr3+ phosphors maintain 95.3% and 90.2% of their room-temperature initial intensity at 150 °C, respectively. The full-spectrum white light-emitting diode (WLED) based on Rb2KAlF6:Cr3+ exhibits a high color-rendering index (94.8), a high luminous efficiency (99.5 lm/W), and a low correlation color temperature (3666 K). The results reveal that these phosphors can not only apply in full-spectrum illumination but also provide new in-depth insights into the design of NIR phosphors with high efficiency and thermal stability.

Abstract:Ultra‐broadband near‐infrared (NIR) emission in the range of 800–1200 nm is achieved by incorporating Cr3+ into a Cs2NaScCl6 single‐crystal matrix. The Cs2NaScCl6:Cr phosphor with a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 64.2% and excellent environmental stability shows unique advantages as the NIR light source in applications such as biomedical imaging, non‐destructive testing, and night‐vision devices. Ultra‐broadband near‐infrared (NIR) phosphor‐converted light‐emitting diodes (pc‐LEDs) have great application prospects in research and industrial fields. However, simultaneously achieving highly efficient and ultra‐broad NIR emission in phosphor material remains a challenge. Herein, an ultra‐broadband NIR emission in the range of 800–1200 nm with ultra‐high emission efficiency of up to 64.2% is first achieved by substituting the Sc3+ site in Cs2NaScCl6 perovskite single‐crystal with a Cr3+ ion. By combining the experimental results with first‐principles calculations, an efficient charge transfer sensitization process from host to Cr3+ is found to be the fundamental reason for the ultra‐high NIR emission efficiency. Benefiting from the excellent efficiency and superior chemical resistance to heat and UV radiation, an ultra‐broadband NIR pc‐LED made of this phosphor demonstrates great potential in biomedical imaging, nondestructive testing, and night‐vision devices.

Abstract:Abstract Broadband near-infrared (NIR)-emitting phosphors are key for next-generation smart NIR light sources based on blue LEDs. To achieve excellent NIR phosphors, we propose a strategy of enhancing the crystallinity, modifying the micromorphology, and maintaining the valence state of Cr 3+ in Ca 3 Sc 2 Si 3 O 12 garnet (CSSG). By adding fluxes and sintering in a reducing atmosphere, the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) is greatly enhanced to 92.3%. The optimized CSSG:6%Cr 3+ exhibits excellent thermal stability. At 150 °C, 97.4% of the NIR emission at room temperature can be maintained. The fabricated NIR-LED device emits a high optical power of 109.9 mW at 520 mA. The performances of both the achieved phosphor and the NIR-LED are almost the best results until now. The mechanism for the optimization is investigated. An application of the NIR-LED light source is demonstrated.

Abstract:Abstract The burgeoning phosphor‐converted near‐infrared light‐emitting diodes (pc‐NIR LEDs) have important applications in special illumination and spectroscopy analysis. However, the development of efficient NIR‐emitting phosphors with high performance is still a challenge. In this work, a chemical unit co‐substitution strategy is proposed to realize the excitation transition regulation and successfully achieve high‐performance NIR luminescence in Ca 3‐ y Na y Mg 1‐ y Sb 2‐ x Al 2+ y O 12 : x Cr 3+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.05, 0 ≤ y ≤ 1) garnet‐type solid solution phosphors. Through the excitation transition modulation from the 4 A 2 ground state to the 4 T 1 ( 4 P) and 4 T 1 ( 4 F) excitation state, the excitation intensity at the blue light region is largely enhanced by 25.6 times. Moreover, the NIR‐emitting efficiency and thermal stability are improved, with the optimal luminescence internal quantum efficiency of 90.6% and thermal stability of 97%@423 K, without any flux‐assisted sintering or reduction atmosphere protection. The structure regulation induced small Stokes shift, weak electron‐phonon coupling effect, and decreased non‐radiative transition are responsible for the excellent NIR‐emitting performance. Finally, the NIR pc‐LED is fabricated with photoelectric efficiencies of 18.7%@100 mA and NIR output powers of 63 mW@100 mA, presenting potential applications in nondestructive internal defect detection, veins imaging, and night vision surveillance.

Abstract:Broadband near-infrared (NIR) phosphors are crucial for fabrication of next-generation smart light source; however, the development of broadband NIR II emission phosphor with full width at half maximum (FWHM) above 200 nm remains challenging. Herein, a Cr3+ doped fluoride phosphor LiInF4:Cr3+ with tunable emission from NIR I to NIR II spectral region is achieved through a site-occupancy control strategy. By changing the volume ratio of HF to H2O in the synthesized solution, nearly pure NIR I emission at ~818 nm to NIR II emission centered at ~1000 nm with a FWHM of 220 nm is realized. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental analysis reveal that the NIR I and NIR II emissions are originated from the Cr3+ ions at In3+ and Li+ sites in this fluoride, which are coordinated with six and seven F- ions, respectively. The relatively low local symmetry environment is the main factor for the Cr3+ NIR II emission. A phosphor converted light-emitting diode with broadband NIR II emission is fabricated by combining the phosphor LiInF4:Cr3+ and commercial 460 nm blue InGaN chip, showing good potential for non-destructive detection and vein imaging, etc. This work also provides insights into the luminescence tuning of Cr3+ ions.

Abstract:The study consisted of (a) assessing the validity and reliability of the Social Infl uence Scale (SIS) for adults with brain injuries and (b) examining the types and sources of social infl uence and demographic variables that affect participants ̓ physical activity behaviors. Three confi rmatory factor analyses, intraclass correlations, and a repeated measures MANOVA were completed on responses from 402 adults with brain injuries. Results provide evidence of the validity and reliability of the SIS, and post hoc analyses revealed that participants reported receiving different types of social infl uence from family, friends, and caregivers. Findings have implications for specialists and suggestions are provided on ways to enhance the physical activity participation of adults with brain injuries.
