Abstract:Photothermal therapy (PTT) offers significant potential in cancer treatment due to its short, simple, and less harmful nature. However, obtaining a photothermal agent (PTA) with good photothermal performance and biocompatibility remains a challenge. MXenes, which are PTAs, have shown promising results in cancer treatment. This study presents the preparation of Ti3C2 MXene quantum dots (MXene QDs) using a simple hydrothermal and ultrasonic method and their use as a PTA for cancer treatment. Compared to conventional MXene QDs synthesized using only the hydrothermal method, the ultrasonic process increased the degree of oxidation on the surface of the MXene QDs. This resulted in the presence of more hydrophilic groups such as hydroxyl groups on the MXene QD surfaces, leading to excellent dispersion in the aqueous system and biocompatibility of the prepared MXene QDs without the need for surface modification. The MXene QDs showed great photothermal performance with a photothermal conversion efficiency of 62.5%, resulting in the highest photothermal conversion efficiency among similar materials reported thus far. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments have proved the potent tumor inhibitory effect of the MXene QD-mediated PTT, with minimal harm to mice. Therefore, these MXene QDs hold a significant promise for clinical applications.
Near‐Infrared Light‐Triggered MXene Nanocomposite for Tumor‐Specific Mild Photothermal‐Enhanced Chemodynamic Therapy

Abstract:In this manuscript, the authors construct a NIR light‐triggered novel MXene nanocomposite for synergistic mild PTT and combined CDT to treat tumors. In vitro experiments demonstrated that this MXene‐based nanosystem exhibits potent cytotoxicity against cancer cells. Following intratumoral administration, the combination of a mild photothermal effect and exceptional Fenton‐like catalytic efficiency led to remarkably effective tumor ablation. Mild photothermal therapy (PTT) is an emerging and elegant approach with minimal adverse effects, demonstrating itself as an effective treatment for cancer. However, potential challenges may arise from the overexpression of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) and the reliance on monotherapy. Here, a near‐infrared (NIR) light‐triggered MXene nanocomposite (FA@MXene/CuO2/GA) is developed to synergistically combine mild PTT and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) for remarkably effective tumor eradication without any notable tissue damage. Under the irradiation of NIR light, the nanocomposite effectively enhances the mild PTT by suppressing HSP90 expression through the release of gambogic acid (GA) due to the excellent photothermal performance of Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets as well as the tumor‐targeting ability and biocompatibility of the surface‐modified FA‐PEG‐SH. The copper‐based catalyst CuO2 in this system releases Cu2+ in an acid‐triggered manner within the tumor microenvironment, activating the Fenton‐like reaction to generate hydroxyl radicals, and the simultaneous production of H2O2 serves to alleviate the deficiency of endogenous H2O2 within the tumor. Overall, the current work showcases a remarkable synergistic anticancer effect of PTT and CDT, and also proposes new avenues for research in utilizing MXene nanomaterials for tumor treatment.

Abstract:Engineering nanotherapeutics with simple ingredients but multiple functions at large-scale via easy methods is still a formidable challenge for cancer treatment. Herein, a novel multifunctional nanotherapeutic agent (named as FeEP-NP) was fabricated by a one-pot self-assembly method based on the coordination between FeII and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) with poly(vinylpyrrolidone) serving as a stabilizer. The designed FeEP-NPs could produce the toxic hydroxyl radical (•OH) effectively via Fenton reaction for chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Intriguingly, the unique binding between EGCG and FeII ions endows nanoparticles with strong absorption and photothermal conversion capabilities in the near-infrared (NIR) region, which could achieve mild hyperthermia-enhanced CDT under NIR laser irradiation. More impressively, the partially released EGCG could accelerate the FeIII/FeII conversion to augment the generation of •OH to further promote CDT, and simultaneously down regulate the intracellular expression of heat shock protein 90 (HSP 90) to enhance mild photothermal therapy (PTT). Both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrate that the low-temperature PTT-potentiated CDT based on FeEP-NPs could suppress tumors more efficiently. Overall, this work presents a novel multifunctional nanoplatform with succinct design, highlighting significant prospects for future clinical application.

Abstract:Mild-temperature photothermal therapy (mild PTT) is a safe and efficient antitumor therapy. However, mild PTT alone usually fails to activate the immune response and prevent tumor metastasis. Herein, a photothermal agent, copper sulfide@ovalbumin (CuS@OVA), with an effective PTT effect in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window, is developed. CuS@OVA can optimize the tumor microenvironment (TME) and evoke an adaptive immune response. Copper ions are released in the acidic TME to promote the M1 polarization of tumor-associated macrophages. The model antigen OVA not only acts as a scaffold for nanoparticle growth but also promotes the maturation of dendritic cells, which primes naive T cells to stimulate adaptive immunity. CuS@OVA augments the antitumor efficiency of the immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) in vivo , which suppresses tumor growth and metastasis in a mouse melanoma model. Abstract:Anionic modulation may open a distinct avenue to explore efficient photothermal agents. d‐Ti3CN exhibits broad and enhanced near‐infrared adsorption, resulting in efficient photonic hyperthermia against tumors in vitro and in vivo. This proof‐of‐principle demonstration offers a deep understanding between atomic composition and physicochemical properties and further solidifies MXenes with all the potential for biomedical applications. Photothermal therapy (PTT) as a noninvasive hyperthermia exhibits high potential for anti‐cancer treatments. The explosion of efficient photothermal agents (PTAs) keeps developing rapidly. MXene stands out due to its intriguing structures, fantastic photodynamic properties, and good biocompatibility. However, the potential of MXenes has not been sufficiently explored in PTT. Its versatile chemical compositions of MXenes provide vast opportunities to discover new candidates. Considering that the metallic feature is mainly attributed to the metal element, anionic modulation may open a distinct avenue to propel efficient PTAs with metallic nature, which is expected for high light‐harvesting over near‐infrared (NIR)‐I and NIR‐II. As a paradigm, metal carbonitride is chosen to visualize the influences of anionic modulation. Taking advantage of electron injection from nitrogen, the distinct carbonitride Ti3C1.15N0.85F0.88O0.56(OH)0.56 exhibits a strong NIR absorption (36.6 L g−1 cm−1 at 808 nm, 43.5 L g−1 cm−1 at 1064 nm), resulting in efficient photonic hyperthermia against tumors in vitro and in vivo. Looking through a large family of MXenes, this proof‐of‐principle demonstration offers a deep understanding between atomic composition and physicochemical properties, which further solidifies MXenes with all the potential for biomedical applications.

Abstract:Ti3C2-MXene-based composites provide multifunctional interfaces in diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Herein, we proposed a multifunctional nanoplatform based on Ti3C2-MXene-Au nanocomposites, which combines photothermal properties and peroxidase-like activity, accomplishing synergistic photothermal therapy (PTT) and enzyme dynamic therapy (EDT) accompanied by photoacoustic (PA) and thermal dual-mode imaging in vivo. Furthermore, PTT induces immunogenic cell death, and EDT promotes cell apoptosis, facilitating dendritic cell (DC) maturation and T cell infiltration into the tumor. On this basis, the antibody OX40 (αOX40) was utilized to further contribute immune therapy for reversing the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by activating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. In summary, a triune of PTT/EDT/antitumor immune therapy is achieved by combining Ti3C2-MXene-Au nanocomposites and αOX40, which possesses several strong features of good biocompatibility, NIR-controlled targeting, significant cancer cell killing, and satisfactory biosafety in vitro and in vivo. Our work might highlight the promising application of MXene-based nanoplatforms for cancer therapy.

Abstract:2D MXene, Ti3C2 (TC), has displayed enormous potential in applications in photothermal therapy (PTT), attributing to its biocompatibility and outstanding photothermal conversion capability. However, some tumor ablations are difficult to be realized completely by monotherapy due to the essential defects of monotherapy and intricate tumor microenvironment (TME). In this work, the appropriate doped Fe2+ ions are anchored into the layers of 2D ultrathin TC nanosheets (TC NSs) to synthesize a novel multifunctional nanoshell of Fe(II)-Ti3C2 (FTC) through interlayer electrostatic adsorption. FTC possesses superior photothermal conversion efficiency (PTCE) than TC NSs, attributing to the enhanced conductivity promoted by interlaminar ferrous ion-channels. Moreover, Fenton reaction based on ferrous ions endows FTC the abilities of reactive oxide species (ROS) releasing and glutathione (GSH) suppression triggered by near-infrared (NIR) laser, featuring splendid biocompatibility and curative effect in hypoxic TME. Meanwhile, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) responding in FTC reveals the potential as an integrated diagnosis and treatment nanoplatform. FTC could provide new insights into the development of multimoded synergistic nanoplatform for biological applications, especially breaking the shackles of MXenes merely used as a photo-thermal agent (PTA), adopting it to bioimaging sensor and drug loading.
Vanadium Carbide MXenzyme Harnessing Photothermal Effects for Targeted Lung Tumor Suppression and Inflammation Eradication

Abstract:Photothermal therapy (PTT) is increasingly favored as a treatment option for lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related death. However, the effectiveness of PTT is hampered by both tumor-associated and treatment-related inflammatory reactions. Consequently, there is a pressing need for innovative PTT-based platforms capable of mitigating inflammation postcancer treatment. Herein, 2D vanadium carbide (V2C) MXenzyme nanosheets via a straightforward exfoliation and intercalation process are successfully synthesized. The V2C MXenzyme demonstrates a robust photothermal effect, which varied with concentration, density, and irradiation duration when exposed to 808 nm near-infrared light. Notably, V2C MXenzyme exhibits the ability to eliminate A549 lung cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo through PTT. Additionally, the synthesized V2C MXenzyme nanosheets exhibited various enzyme-like activities, resembling reactive oxygen species-mimetic enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, peroxidase, glutathione peroxidase, and thiol peroxidase. V2C MXenzyme significantly curtailed inflammation in both in vitro and in vivo settings. Furthermore, gene sequencing analysis of inflammation-related genes responding to V2C MXenzyme nanosheets is performed and identified HSPA1A as a significantly differentially expressed gene. HSPA1A expression correlated with the infiltration of various immune cells in lung adenocarcinoma. Thus, V2C MXenzyme may serve as a revalorization platform to suppress lung tumors and reduce inflammation. Synthesized 2D vanadium carbide MXenzyme nanosheets exhibit potent photothermal properties, effectively eradicating cancer cells and reducing inflammation in both lab and animal studies. Additionally, these nanosheets reveal a link between HSPA1A gene expression and immune cell infiltration in lung adenocarcinoma, indicating their potential for redefining treatment strategies, particularly in mitigating lung tumors and managing inflammation.image

Abstract:Foreseen as foundational in forthcoming oncology interventions are multimodal therapeutic systems. Nevertheless, the tumor microenvironment (TME), marked by heightened glucose levels, hypoxia, and scant concentrations of endogenous hydrogen peroxide could potentially impair their effectiveness. In this research, two-dimensional (2D) Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets are engineered with CeO2 nanozymes and glucose oxidase (GOD), optimizing them for TME, specifically targeting cancer therapy. Following our therapeutic design, CeO2 nanozymes, embodying both peroxidase-like and catalase-like characteristics, enable transformation of H2O2 into hydroxyl radicals for catalytic therapy while also producing oxygen to mitigate hypoxia. Concurrently, GOD metabolizes glucose, thereby augmenting H2O2 levels and disrupting the intracellular energy supply. When subjected to a near-infrared laser, 2D Ti3C2 MXene accomplishes photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), additionally amplifying cascade catalytic treatment via thermal enhancement. Empirical evidence demonstrates robust tumor suppression both in vitro and in vivo by the CeO2/Ti3C2-PEG-GOD nanocomposite. Consequently, this integrated approach, which combines PTT/PDT and enzymatic catalysis, could offer a valuable blueprint for the development of advanced oncology therapies.
Synthesis of ultra-small MXene nanorods for enhanced photothermal therapy of breast cancer in vitro

Abstract:Photo-responsive nanomaterials show promising photothermal therapy (PTT) applications for superficial and internal tumors. However, most photo-synthesizers possess a small extinction coefficient and low photothermal conversion efficacy, limiting their use for advanced PTT. Herein, a facile and inexpensive method was employed to synthesize ultra-thin titanium carbide (Ti 2 C) MXene nanorods for the PTT of breast cancer. The average width and length of the prepared Ti 2 C nanorods were about 20 nm and 80 nm, respectively, demonstrating excellent biocompatibility and significantly encapsulated into the 4T1 cancer cells. The nanorods revealed promising photothermal properties and increased temperature from 20 to 58 °C enough for tumor ablation after 808 nm laser light irradiation, indicating remarkable cancer PTT in vitro. Moreover, Ti 2 C nanorods show favorable photostability and significant photothermal conversion efficiency of 63.3 % because of good near-infrared (NIR) absorption. This work proves ultra-thin Ti 2 C MXene nanorods as a new photothermal agent for phototherapy applications.

Abstract:The novel multifunctional 2D vanadium carbide (V4C3) MXene nanosheets in question can be degraded in situ in the tumor microenvironment, which show superior photothermal tumor ablation ability in the NIR‐II biological window. Its ability to trigger ICD reaction can significantly enhance tumor immunotherapy. The application of 2D MXene materials in the biomedical field has been widely explored. Apart from excellent photothermal properties, their role in modulating various immune cells and overcoming immune‐suppressive tumor microenvironments is waiting to be discovered. In this work, a novel multifunctional 2D vanadium carbide is constructed that degrades in situ in the tumor microenvironment. Various characterizations and first‐principles calculations indicated that V4C3 nanosheets exhibit excellent light absorption and photothermal conversion capabilities in the NIR‐II biological window. The photothermal and X‐ray absorption properties of V4C3 nanosheets enabled dual‐modal photoacoustic imaging/computerized tomography (PA/CT) imaging functionality. The V4C3 nanosheets in the tumor microenvironment decomposed under the effect of H2O2 and GSH, triggering a Fenton‐like reaction. The photothermal ablation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation capabilities enabled V4C3 nanosheets to convert cold tumors into hot ones (macrophage: M2→M1) and induce reactions like immunogenic cell death (ICD). Dendritic cell (DC) cells matured under the ICD stimulation, which promoted T cell activation, reduced Treg cells and thus effectively enhanced tumor immunotherapy. The multiple properties including imaging, photothermal, enzyme‐driven, and immune functions enable V4C3 nanosheets to ablate tumors effectively. This study provides an example for the research of the multifunctional exploration and application of MXene in biomedicine filed.

Abstract:A service discovery framework provides a collection of protocols for developing dynamic client/server applications, allowing clients to find and use services without any previous knowledge of the locations or characteristics of the services. There are currently many service discovery, technologies available or in development, including Jini, UPnP, SLP, Salutation, Bluetooth SDP, and Ninja. These have similar high-level goals, but quite different architectures. Each software or hardware product utilizing service discovery will typically use only one of these protocols, meaning that clients and services using different technologies will not be able to cooperate. Since it is likely that several protocols will be widely used, there is a need for interoperability frameworks that allow clients and services written using different service discovery technologies to cooperate. This paper presents a Jini/UPnP interoperability framework that allows Jini clients to use UPnP services and UPnP clients to use Jini services, without modification to service or client implementations. As service specifications are typically developed independently for each protocol, a fully automatic interoperability solution is not currently practical, so we introduce service-specific proxies to bridge Jini and UPnP. Our goal is to reduce the amount of effort required to support new service types and our framework includes a substantial amount of support for rapid proxy development. A modest development effort is required to support each new service type, and our initial (and highly unscientific) measurements reveal that the level of effort is typically on the order of one day by a member of our team.
Ultrathin Cu-TCPP MOF nanosheets: a new theragnostic nanoplatform with magnetic resonance/near-infrared thermal imaging for synergistic phototherapy of cancers

Abstract:Nanostructures based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have promising potential as theragnostic nanoplatforms for phototherapy of cancer cells. However, the MOFs alone are seldom reported to be used as photothermal agents mainly due to their poor near-infrared (NIR) light absorption. Methods: Ultrathin copper-tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (Cu-TCPP) MOF nanosheets were prepared by a facile solvothermal route. The photothermal therapy (PTT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), and T1 -weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging capabilities and the high biocompatibility of these composite nanosheets were evaluated in vitro as well as in vivo in a mouse tumor model. Results: The ultrathin Cu-TCPP MOF nanosheets exhibited 1) strong NIR absorption because of the d-d energy band transition of Cu2+ and the ultrathin characteristic translating into excellent photothermal performance, 2) ability to produce singlet oxygen because of the inherent characteristic of TCPP, and 3) capability for MR imaging because of the unpaired 3d electrons of copper. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that the Cu-TCPP MOF nanosheets are a promising phototherapy nanoplatform with the synergistic ability for PTT and PDT of cancer, guided by MR and infrared thermal imaging.

In this work, we designed self-healing photothermal nanotherapeutics to achieve effective PTT with triple-amplified ferroptosis and cascade inflammation inhibition after photothermal treatment. After the ferroptosis-inducing ability of mangiferin (MF) was first elucidated, the nanocomplex PFeM, coordinated by Fe3+ and MF with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) modification, was prepared by a one-pot self-assembly method. PFeM with laser irradiation could induce intensified ferroptosis by integrating the functions of MF to deactivate glutathione peroxidase 4, Fe3+/Fe2+ to generate lethal reactive oxygen species via the Fenton reaction, and the photothermal effect to amplify ferroptosis. More importantly, the released MF could achieve cascade inflammation inhibition, thereby reversing the proinflammatory microenvironment caused by PTT. The in vivo antitumor and anti-inflammatory effects of PFeM were further confirmed in a 4T1 tumor-bearing mouse model. This study expounding the ferroptosis-inducing effects of MF and utilizing the strategy of chelating MF with iron ions can provide a new idea for developing photothermal nanoagents with clinically convertible safety ingredients and a green preparation process that improve efficacy and reduce adverse reactions during PTT.
Multifunctional MoS2 Nanosheets with Au NPs Grown in Situ for Synergistic Chemo-Photothermal Therapy.

Abstract:The treatment of cancer has always been a worldwide problem. The combination of chemotherapy and other therapies would be a promising therapy strategy. Photothermal therapy (PTT) does not cause serious side effects and has dual control of time and space, which was considered to be a good method for combination with chemotherapy. Here, we modified multifunctional nanosheets based on in-situ gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) grown molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) to combine their excellent photothermal conversion and drug loading capabilities. More importantly, the target peptide cRGD modified nanosheets have good selectivity to tumor cells rich in integrin receptors, and drug loading and drug release tests showed that it could carry enough chemotherapeutic drugs and had excellent photo controlled release performance. In vitro cell experiments showed that the drug-loaded multifunctional nanosheets had good anti-tumor effect under 808 nm laser irradiation. Therefore, the multifunctional nanosheets designed in this paper have great potential in the study of targeted drug release and chemo-photothermal therapy combined therapy, and are of great significance for in vivo and clinical research.
Localization of transforming growth factor-alpha in human appendageal tumors.

Abstract:Transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF alpha) is a potent mitogen for epithelial cells that has been localized to normal human appendageal epithelia. To further understand the role of TGF alpha in human appendages, we examined TGF alpha expression immunohistochemically in 17 types of human appendageal tumors differentiating toward hair follicles, eccrine, apocrine, and sebaceous glands. In order of decreasing degrees of differentiation, tumors could be divided into hyperplasias, adenomas, benign epitheliomas, and primordial epitheliomas. Using an antibody that recognizes primarily the 6-kd and 13-kd forms of TGF alpha, TGF alpha immunostaining in 16 of 17 tumor types analyzed was found to follow a similar pattern, with expression in hyperplasias greater than adenomas greater than benign epitheliomas greater than primordial epitheliomas. Within a given tumor, TGF alpha expression also correlated well with the known differentiation state of the tumor cell types. The results suggest that TGF alpha expression is directly correlated with the differentiation state of hair follicle, eccrine, apocrine, and sebaceous tumors in human skin, and raises the possibility that TGF alpha may play a role in the differentiation of appendageal epithelia.

Abstract:The AgFeCu NPs effectively catalyze the conversion of endogenous hydrogen peroxide into hydroxyl radicals in the tumor microenvironment, leading to the degradation of heat shock proteins and the self‐catalytically enhanced mild photothermal therapy. Additionally, AgFeCu NPs induce oxidative stress by depleting intracellular glutathione and promoting lipid peroxidation, ultimately triggering tumor ferroptosis and resulting in significant tumor elimination in a U87MG murine tumor model. Mild photothermal therapy (mPTT) has emerged as a highly promising approach for tumor ablation. However, the heat‐induced overexpression of heat shock proteins (HSPs) limits its efficacy by increasing cellular temperature tolerance. Herein, a self‐catalytically enhanced mild PTT strategy that directly disrupts the structure of HSPs to restore tumor cell sensitivity is proposed. In the proof‐of‐concept study, AgFeCu nanoparticles (AgFeCu NPs) with dual‐active catalytic centers (Fe‐Cu) and near‐infrared photothermal properties are developed. The AgFeCu NPs can efficiently catalyze the conversion of endogenous hydrogen peroxide into hydroxyl radicals in situ, leading to the degradation of HSPs and enhancing the therapeutic effects of mild PTT mediated by their Ag‐based substrates. Furthermore, AgFeCu NPs can also induce oxidative stress by depleting intracellular glutathione and promoting lipid peroxidation, thereby triggering tumor ferroptosis and resulting in significant tumor elimination in a U87MG murine tumor model. This self‐catalytically enhanced strategy maximizes the efficacy of mild PTT while minimizing damage to healthy tissues, which is expected to provide valuable insights for the development of next‐generation photothermal nanoagents for improved tumor therapeutics.

Abstract:Photothermal therapy is a powerful candidate for tumor treatment. However, photothermal therapy still faces some challenges, such as lacking photothermal agents with high photothermal conversion efficiency and undesirable inflammatory responses, which may result in tumor recurrence and therapeutic resistance. Here, the Pt/Te nanoheterostructures (PT) were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal reaction. The photothermal conversion efficiency was up to 51.84%. The outstanding photothermal conversion capacity of PT was attributed to the unique localized surface plasmon resonance frequency of metals and semiconductors and the increased circuit paths of electron transitions from nanoheterostructures. After coating with the murine mammary carcinoma (4T1) cell membrane, the camouflaged PT (mPT) exhibits excellent biocompatibility and effective homologous targeting capacity. Benefiting from antioxidative activity, mPT can efficiently scavenge inflammation-related reactive oxygen species and cytokines (such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6) caused by hyperthermia to alleviate inflammation in vitro and in vivo. The in vitro and in vivo therapeutic results showed that mPT could effectively inhibit 4T1 breast tumors. In addition, the in vivo therapy could be guided by photoacoustic imaging. These results demonstrated that these multifunctional mPT provide a paradigm for biomimetic metal and semiconductor nanoheterostructures for enhanced photothermal therapy and anti-inflammatory action on tumors.

Abstract:Cancer incidence and mortality are rapidly growing around the world. As a noninvasive strategy for cancer treatment, photothermal therapy (PTT) utilizes near-infrared (NIR) light absorbents to produce local hyperpyrexia from light energy, resulting in the thermal elimination of tumors. Different nanostructures that possess strong absorbance of NIR light have been exploited as photothermal agents (PTAs) that need to be biodegradable and have strong optical absorbance in the NIR optical window. However. it remains highly challenging to identify the small molecule-based photothermal agents with a high photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE). Therefore, various types of PTAs have been developed in the last decades. These PTAs usually absorb NIR light where the living cells exhibit no absorption and autofluorescence and are able to transit absorption light to heat energy. Based on previous reports, the synthesized PTAs can be classified into two types: Inorganic nanomaterials and organic small molecular nanomaterials. Recently, for the first time, we demonstrated the synthesis of two dimensional (2D) monoelemental germanene quantum dots (GeQDs) through a facile liquid exfoliation method for photonic cancer nanomedicine. Our research can solve the major problem that 2D materials are difficultly synthetized and traditional materials have low photothermal conversion efficiency. Currently, photothermal therapy is a new type of highly effective, non-invasive and highly targeted therapy for cancer, however, the high temperature induced by PTT may also cause serious damage to healthy tissues. Therefore, mild photothermal therapy (MPTT) with relatively low temperature has attracted more and more attention. Due to the limited antitumor effect of MPTT, it is usually combined with other strategies to synergistically eliminate cancer cells. MPTT nanoplatform with enhanced curative efficacy and lower side effect is promising to apply in the field of drug controlled release, imaging-guided cancer treatment. and integrated therapy with other anticancer approaches. In this review, we briefly introduce the types and characteristics of PTAs, their anticancer function and the combined strategies for cancer therapy. Finally, we discuss the role of MPTT as a promising new therapeutic strategy for cancer therapy.
