Abstract:Facial pores are visible openings of pilosebaceous follicles, and they are one of the major factors influencing facial skin appearance. This article aims to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of 1565-nm non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) and long-pulsed 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser (LPNY) in treating enlarged facial pores. All subjects were treated with NAFL on their left faces and LPNY on their right. Five treatments were administered at 2-week intervals, with one follow-up session 2 months after the final treatment. Treatment efficacy was evaluated by subjective (pore improvement and subject satisfaction ratings) assessments and objective (pore number) assessments. At each appointment, any side effects or complications were recorded to evaluate the safety of the two lasers. A total of 18 individuals participated in this study. At the 2-month follow-up, NAFL and LPNY sides had significant reduction in pores ( p < 0.0001 and p < 0.0001, respectively). However, there was no statistically significant difference in the mean number of pore reductions on either side ( p > 0.05). There was no significant difference in pore improvement ratings and satisfaction ratings between the two sides ( p > 0.05 and p > 0.05, respectively). Both lasers showed minimal side effects. Both lasers effectively treated enlarged facial pores and were well tolerated. The side effects of the 1064-nm LPNY were less severe than those of the 1565-nm NAFL. Abstract:Background Fractional picosecond lasers (FPL) are reported to be effective and safe for atrophic acne scars and post‐acne erythema. However, there is no evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of FPL treatment for non‐acne atrophic scars and scar erythema among Chinese patients. Methods In this retrospective study, 12 Chinese patients with non‐acne atrophic scars, including nine with scar erythema, were treated with one to three sessions of 1064 nm FPL treatment. Clinical improvement was objectively assessed through blinded evaluations by external physicians. A modified Manchester Scar Scale (mMSS) and the Clinician Erythema Assessment Scale (CEAS) were individually used to evaluate atrophic scars and scar erythema based on photographs. Physician‐assessed and subject‐assessed Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) were used to assess changes before and after FPL treatment. Patient satisfaction and adverse events were also documented. Results Total mMSS scores, as well as three parameters (color, distortion, and texture), were significantly decreased after FPL treatment, with a mean reduction of 3.18 ± 1.60 in total scores (p 3 weeks) adverse events were observed. Conclusion Our study suggests that 1064 nm FPL treatment may be a promising option for non‐acne atrophic scars, especially with scar erythema. Further studies are needed to confirm our results.

The Efficacy and Safety of Fractional 1064 nm Nd:YAG Picosecond Laser Combined With Intense Pulsed Light in the Treatment of Atrophic Acne Scar: A Split-Face Study

Abstract:Background and objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of fractional 1064 nm Nd:YAG picosecond laser combined with intense pulsed light (IPL) in the treatment of atrophic acne scar with post-inflammatory erythema (PIE). © 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC. Study design/materials and methods: Seventeen patients received five sessions of treatment at weeks 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and were followed up at week 28. One half of the face was randomly treated by fractional 1064 nm Nd:YAG picosecond laser combined with IPL (FxPico + IPL), and the other by IPL alone as a control. Results: For the 15 patients who completed the study, the FxPico + IPL side demonstrated significant median Échelle D'évaluation clinique des cicatrices D'acné (ECCA) score improvement (P < 0.01), while IPL alone side did not (P = 0.1250). The pore counts for both sides decreased but more pore count reduction was seen on the FxPico + IPL side (P < 0.05). Better scar improvement was observed on the FxPico + IPL-treated side (P < 0.05) while no difference in erythema improvement was seen between the two sides. There was no difference between the two treatments in terms of overall satisfaction. Pain, erythema, edema, petechiae, crusting, reactive acneiform eruptions, and pruritus were common adverse effects and were mild to moderate. Conclusion: FxPico + IPL is an effective, efficient, and safe treatment regimen for atrophic acne scars complicated by PIE.

Abstract:Objectives: There have been few studies regarding the use of a picosecond-domain laser for acne scars in Asians. This prospective study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a high-energy 1,064 nm Nd:YAG picosecond-domain laser for ablation and resurfacing of facial acne scars in Asians. Methods: Subjects were treated with a 1,064 nm picosecond laser (8 mm spot, 0.7-1.0 J/cm2 , 5 Hz) every 4 weeks for three sessions. Two blinded dermatologists evaluated the pre- and 3-month post-treatment images with a 10-point improvement scale. Subject pain, global improvement, and satisfaction were also assessed. The Facial Acne Scar Quality of Life (FASQoL) questionnaire was used to evaluate the subjects' quality of life. Results: Twenty subjects aged 18-50 years with Fitzpatrick skin type III-V were enrolled. The median dermatologist-rated improvement score was 3 out of 10. Subjects were satisfied to very satisfied with global improvement. Subjects' quality of life significantly improved with a median FASQoL score of 10 after treatment compared with 21 before treatment (P < 0.001). Adverse effects were limited to erythema, pain, and edema without postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. Conclusions: The 1,064 nm picosecond-domain laser with ablative resurfacing parameters is safe and effective for the treatment of acne scars in Asians. Lasers Surg. Quasi long-pulsed 1064nm Nd:YAG (micro pulsed) technology for the treatment of active acne: A case series

Abstract:Background: Acne vulgaris is common dermatologic condition with an estimated prevalence of 80%. Acne has been shown to have a significant impact on patient quality of life and mental health, especially as inflammatory lesions typically occur on cosmetically sensitive areas with the potential for permanent scarring. There have been numerous advances in the treatment of inflammatory acne with light-based and laser devices. This technology permits effective treatment of active acne and scarring, with a short recovery and a decreased side effect profile as compared to medicinal standard-of-care and photodynamic therapies. Objective: The case series study was aimed at evaluating the safety and efficacy of a 1064 nm Nd: YAG Quasi-longed pulse laser treatment for acne vulgaris. Methods: This was a prospective study of 19 subjects with moderate to severe. All subjects received 1064 nm Nd: YAG Quasi-longed pulse laser treatments, at 8 J/cm2 fluence and accumulated 1000-4000 kJ according to treatment area at two weeks intervals. Primary end point was reaching a minimal AGSS score of between 1 and 2. Acne severity was assessed by two independent dermatologists according to AGSS scale before each treatment session and at the follow-up visit (8 weeks following last treatment). Subjects' self-assessment of Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC) and overall satisfaction were also recorded. Safety was assessed by recording pain, adverse events, and downtime throughout the trial. Results: Investigator's US FDA AGSS scoring of acne appearance improvement shows an average of 6.6 treatments were required to reach the minimal AGSS score endpoint. Significant reduction in AGSS scores was recorded after 2 treatments (4.21 ± 0.65 vs 3.05 ± 0.83 p = 1.63E-05 ), and maintained a statistically significant reduction rate throughout the trial. Minimal AGSS scores were still detected after 8 weeks following final treatment. Subjects scored high satisfaction rates and PGIC scores (2.9 and 5.3, respectively). Some patients reported transient erythema as only adverse events recorded in the study. Conclusion: The 1064 nm Nd: YAG Quasi-longed pulse laser was found to be safe and highly effective for the treatment of facial acne. The treatments were well tolerated, and the subjects experienced no pain and no downtime. Light-based treatments do and will probably continue to play an important and enlarging role in acne management.
How the Generalized Anomeric Effect Influences the Conformational A

Abstract:The generalized anomeric effect refers to the conformational preference of a gauche structure over an anti structure for molecules with a R-X-C-Y moiety. Whereas there are conflicting reports regarding the origin of this ubiquitous effect, a general con- sensus is that both the steric (more spe- cifically electrostatic) and hyperconju- gative interactions contribute. Here we employed the block-localized wave- function (BLW) method, which is the simplest variant of ab initio valence bond (VB) theory and can define refer- ence electron-localized states self-con- sistently, to evaluate the magnitude of the hyperconjugation effect in a number of acyclic molecules exhibiting the generalized anomeric effect. The BLW-based energy decomposition analysis revealed that both the steric and hyperconjugation effects contrib- ute to the conformational preferences of methoxymethyl fluoride and me- thoxymethyl chlorides. But for the other systems under investigation, in- cluding methanediol, methanediamine, aminomethanol and dimethoxymeth- A the hyperconjugative interactions play a negative role in the conforma- tional preferences and the steric effect is solely responsible for the generalized anomeric effect.
Comparison of 1064-nm Nd:YAG picosecond laser using fractional micro-lens array vs. ablative fractional 2940-nm Er:YAG laser for the treatment of atrophic acne scar in Asians: a 20-week prospective, randomized, split-face, controlled pilot study

Abstract:Background: The 1064-nm Nd:YAG picosecond lasers using fractional micro-lens array (P-MLA) was a promising therapy for skin resurfacing. However, no studies have compared P-MLA with ablative fractional 2940-nm Er:YAG lasers (AF-Er) in the treatment of atrophic acne scars. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of P-MLA and AF-Er for the treatment of atrophic acne scars. Methods: We performed a prospective, randomized, split-face, controlled pilot study. Thirty-one Asian patients with mild to moderate atrophic acne scars underwent four consecutive sessions of randomized split-face treatment with P-MLA and AF-Fr at 4-week intervals. The efficacy of the two devices were evaluated by Echelle d'Evaluation Clinique des Cicatrices d'acne (ECCA) grading scale, Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA) score and patient's satisfaction. VISIA analysis was also performed to evaluate the pore and skin texture. Adverse events were recorded at each follow-up. Results: The P-MLA afforded comparable clinical responses in scar appearance as AF-Er based on the investigator's assessments (ECCA percent reduction: 39.11% vs. 43.73%; IGA score: 2.97 ± 0.65 vs. 3.16 ± 0.68; P > 0.05 for both). However, the result of patient satisfaction indicated the AF-Er-treated side achieved a slightly greater improvement in scar appearance (3.97 ± 0.78 vs. 3.55 ± 0.71; P < 0.05). Overall, the two devices did not differ largely in terms of efficacy. VISIA analysis revealed similar changing patterns of the pore and skin texture between two devices. For safety profiles, no serious side effects were reported on both sides. The P-MLA showed lower pain level, shortened duration of crust shed and edema, and less occurrence of PIH (P < 0.05 for all). Conclusion: Compared with AF-Er, P-MLA afforded comparable effect and more safety profiles in treating atrophic acne scars in Asian patients. Abstract:Melasma is an acquired disorder of symmetrical hyperpigmentation commonly seen in patients with Fitzpatrick skin types III and IV. Various novel therapeutic modalities have emerged to treat melasma. The large-spot low-fluence QS Nd:YAG laser has been widely used in Asia; however, the modality needs to be optimized because of the high recurrence rate. The objective of this study is to explore the clinical efficacy and safety of fractional-mode (Pixel) Q-switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) 1064-nm laser for treatment of melasma in Chinese patients. Twenty-seven patients were enrolled and completed all the treatment sessions and the 12-week follow-up. All were treated using the fractional-mode Pixel QS Nd:YAG (1064 nm) laser for eight sessions at a 2–3-week interval. Clinical photographs were taken using the Visia skin analysis imaging system. Two blinded assessors evaluated melasma area and severity index (MASI) scores before and 4 weeks after the final session. Melanin index (MI) and erythema index (EI) was measured before each treatment visit and after the final treatment. The degree of pigmentation and erythema was assessed using a tristimulus color analyzer. Physicians’ global assessment (PGA) and patients’ self-assessment were taken as the subjective assessments. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was performed to evaluate clinical response. Recurrence rate were also evaluated. Mean MASI scores decreased from 12.84 ± 6.89 to 7.29 ± 4.15 after treatment (p = 0.000). Seventy percent of patients got moderate to good improvements after all the treatment. Mean MI decreased significantly from 56.52 ± 23.35 to 32.75 ± 12.91 (p = 0.000). L value increased from 59.21 ± 2.22 before treatment to 61.60 ± 2.40 (p = 0.000) after therapy. The mean score of PGA was 3.76 ± 0.71, indicating a “moderate” clearance of the lesion. In patients’ self-evaluations, 70 % of the patients rated the result as “good” to “remarkable.” Partial recurrence was seen in 40 % patients at the 3-month follow-up. No severe adverse events were observed during the study, and the treatment was well tolerated. The fractional mode (Pixel) QS Nd:YAG 1064-nm laser is an effective and safe treatment for melasma. The recurrence rate was relatively lower than that reported in studies treating with large-spot low-fluence QS Nd:YAG laser.

Abstract:Background: Fractional technology overcomes several problems of ablative lasers such as a high incidence rate of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). A new technology fractional radiofrequency, which induces deep dermal heating and leaves the epidermal less affected results in less adverse effect in Chinese. Objective : To evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerance of fractional bipolar radiofrequency (RF) in the treatment of acne scars in Asian people with the strategy of high energy. Methods: Twenty-six healthy Asian patients with acne scars received four monthly high energy (85-95mj/pin) treatments with a fractional bipolar RF device. Improvement and tolerance were evaluated at each treatment and a 4-week and 12-week follow-up visit. Results: Twenty-three patients completed the study. Acne score showed a significantly decrease at 4-week and 12-week follow-up visits. Patients' evaluation of global improvement and satisfaction increased at the 12-week visit compared with baseline. Side effects were limited to transient pain, erythema, dryness and low risk of PIH. Conclusion: Treatment with high energy of fractional bipolar RF is safe and effective for acne scars in Asian people. Common side effects such as PIH, eschars are less than fractional lasers.
Efficacy and safety of 1550-nm fractional laser in the treatment of acne scars in Chinese patients: A split-face comparative study

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of 1550-nm fractional Er:Glass laser in treating atrophic acne scar. Materials and methods: Thirty Chinese patients aged 18-65 with atrophic acne scars on both cheeks received a split-face treatment, one side with four sessions of treatment with fractional 1550-nm Er:Glass laser at 20-day interval and the other with topical asiaticoside cream application three times daily as control. Clinical response and side effects were evaluated by a dermatologist three weeks after each treatment and again 12 weeks after the last laser treatment. In addition, self-evaluation of satisfaction by the patients was done at the end of treatment. Results: The study found that mean scores decrease after treatment was 5.65 ± 4.34 for the treated side and 1.23 ± 3.41 for the control side. The improvement in acne scars after the fractional Er:Glass laser 1550-nm treatment was more significant than the control side (p = 0.0001). The side effects were mainly local skin irritation and erythema, which disappeared within one week. Conclusion: The research results show that the fractional 1550-nm Er:Glass laser is an effective and safe treatment device for atrophic acne scars.

Abstract:In the paper a case study of prototype wireless sensor nodes (WSN) constituting an autonomous wireless link based on ZigBee transceivers and supplied with thermoelectric generators (TEG) harvesting waste industrial heat is presented. Depending on the available power, different working scenarios of the coupled TEG and WSN are considered. Simulation data concerning estimated available electrical power as well as measurements carried out by means of a laboratory stand imitating a central heating system are presented. Design process of autonomous WSN leading to optimization of energy consumption from hardware and software sides is described.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background and Objective</h3><p>Fractional 1064‐nm picosecond‐domain laser has recently been utilized for the treatment of atrophic acne scars and showed promising results. However, data on the safety and efficacy of this procedure in dark‐skinned patients are limited. This prospective, self‐controlled study was conducted to objectively evaluate the safety and efficacy of a 1064‐nm picosecond laser coupled with a microlens array (MLA) for the treatment of atrophic acne scars on Asian skin.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Study Design/Materials and Methods</h3><p>Twenty‐six subjects of Fitzpatrick skin types (FSTs) III and IV with atrophic acne scars were enrolled. All subjects were treated with a 1064‐nm picosecond laser (spot size of 8 mm, fluence of 1.0 J/cm<sup>2</sup>, a repetition rate of 10 Hz) in combination with the MLA handpiece for an average of three passes, for 6 monthly sessions. Objective (measurement of scar volume using three‐dimensional (3D) photography and skin roughness analysis using ultraviolet A‐light video camera) and subjective (clinical evaluation by two blinded dermatologists) assessments were obtained at baseline and at 1, 3, and 6 months after the final treatment. </p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>Statistically significant reduction of the scar volume from baseline at 1, 3, and 6 months after the final treatment were observed by 3D photography and ultraviolet A‐light video camera. At the 6‐month follow‐up, 50% (13 of 26) of the subjects were rated as having at least 50% improvement of the scars. The rate of improvement significantly increased from the 1‐month follow‐up to the 6‐month follow‐up (<i>P</i> = 0.013). Similarly, at the 6‐month follow‐up, the scar volume (<i>P</i> = 0.024) and skin roughness (<i>P</i> = 0.001) also significantly improved, in comparison with the baseline. Mild postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) was observed to develop in approximately 18% of all the treatment sessions. All cases of PIH were temporary and resolved within 4 weeks on average. </p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>The 1064‐nm picosecond laser with MLA is a safe therapeutic alternative for the treatment of atrophic acne scars in dark‐skinned individuals. Efficacy and Safety of Solid-state Dual-wavelength Lasers for the Treatment of Moderate-to-severe Inflammatory Acne in Asian Populations

Abstract:Background: Standard treatments for moderate-to-severe acne often require oral medications but are not long-lasting or free from side effects. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a solid-state dual-wavelength laser for moderate-to-severe inflammatory acne in an Asian population. Methods: Forty individuals with moderate-to-severe acne received nightly topical retinoids and two to three weekly treatments with a 1319-nm laser followed by a 589-nm laser (five sessions in total). Patients were evaluated at pretreatment baseline, at monthly intervals, and at 1 month after the last laser for pain, seborrhea, global aesthetic improvements, and satisfaction, using standardized digital photography and global assessment scales. Fifteen patients had an additional evaluation 3 months after the fifth session. Results: At 1 month, all patients (n = 40) had improved inflammatory acne counts, with 72.5% having greater than 75% reduction in acne count, 7.5% having 51%-75% reduction, 17.5% having 26%-50% reduction and 2.5% having less than 25% reduction. Moreover, GAS evaluations showed that 62.5% of patients improved to almost clear and 37.5% to mild acne (P = 0.0478), while improvements were sustained in patients with 3-month follow-ups. Erythema (n = 29) improved with 65.5% of affected patients having greater than 75% reduction. Patients (n = 17) with pigmentation experienced lightening, with 52.9% of affected patients having a greater than 75% reduction. With low pain scores (mean 3.68 of 10, median 4 of 10), the treatment was well-tolerated. All patients (n = 40) reported acne improvements with 95% having much improved or very much improved, and 95% either satisfied or very satisfied. Conclusions: Dual-wavelength lasers effectively and safely treat moderate-to-severe inflammatory acne with high patient satisfaction. It is ideal for patients who refuse or are contraindicated to oral medications, and patients with acne-associated pigmentation, erythema and seborrhea.
Treatment of Inflammatory Facial Acne Vulgaris in Chinese Patients with the 1450-Nm Diode Laser: A Pilot Study

Abstract:The 1450-nm diode laser has been found to be effective for the treatment of inflammatory acne in USA, Europe and Japan. However, there is no report on its efficacy in Chinese acne vulgaris patients. We conduct this pilot study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the 1450-nm diode laser in the treatment of inflammatory facial acne vulgaris in Chinese patients. Nineteen patients with inflammatory facial acne were treated with the 1450-nm diode laser at 4- to 6-week intervals. Clinical photographs and lesion counts were obtained at baseline and after each treatment. Subjective evaluation of response to treatment and pain was assessed using a questionnaire. In our study, clinical improvement was seen in all patients and was generally dramatic. Lesion counts decreased 34% after one treatment (p < 0.01), 56% after two treatments (p < 0.01), and 81% after three treatments (p < 0.01). However, the treatment-related pain was comparatively hard to be tolerated in Chinese patitents, and the other main adverse effect was the hyper-pigmentation after treatments (36.84%, 7/19).

Abstract:Epithelial wound repair assures the recovery of the epithelial barrier after wounding. During wound healing epithelial cells migrate to cover the wound surface. The presented experiments were carried out to compare the migration of human keratinocytes from primary and secondary culture on polystyrene, collagen, and fibrin glue used in clinical techniques. The images of migrating keratinocytes were recorded and analyzed using computer-aided methods. The results show that the character of the substrate strongly affects the speed and turning behavior of keratinocytes locomoting over it. The highest motile activity of human skin keratinocytes was found on fibrin glue substratum. It was found that locomotion of freely moving isolated cells was much faster than that of cell sheets. The autologous keratinocytes cultured in vitro were applied with fibrin glue to cover trophic wounds. The transplantation of human autologous keratinocyte suspension in fibrin glue upon long-lasting trophic wounds appeared to induce rapid and permanent wound healing.
An Exploratory Split‐face Study of a Dual‐wavelength Laser System on Erythromelanosis Follicularis Faciei in Chinese Population

Abstract:Background Erythromelanosis follicularis faciei (EFF) is clinically characterized by well-demarcated erythema, hyperpigmentation and follicular papules. No satisfactory therapy has been widely accepted.Objective This study was aimed to evaluate the efficiency and complications of a dual-wavelength laser system in the treatment of EFF in Chinese population.Methods Twelve Chinese patients with EFF were enrolled in this study. One side of the face was randomized to receive five successions of treatments at intervals of 6-8 weeks, with the other side spared as control. The parameters were set as follows: energy densities of 6.5-7.5 J/cm(2) with pulsed dye laser (PDL) and 35-50 J/cm(2) with Nd:YAG; pulse duration of 0.5 ms with PDL and 15 ms with Nd: YAG; a delay time of 100 ms between delivery of the two wavelengths. The efficacy was evaluated using subjective assessment and non-invasive measurement.Results After five sessions of treatment, over 40% patients achieved more than 50% (moderate or significant) improvement. The efficacy maintained at 3-month follow-up. The values of erythema index and melanin index on treated side were significantly less than those on untreated side after sessions of treatments. Adverse effects of treated side were limited.Conclusion Using this split-face module, dual-wavelength laser system treatment is proved to be suitable for Chinese EFF. Adverse effects were minimal.

Abstract:Inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) and inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate (IP4) are calcium-regulating second messenger molecules generated following the binding of a wide range of hormones and growth factors to their receptors. The actions of these messengers, which play important roles in the regulation of cell proliferation as well as in other signaling pathways, are terminated by the action of a 5-phosphomonoesterase (5-PME) enzyme. We have assayed this enzyme in normal and malignant hemopoietic cells. Extracts from normal bone marrow cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNC) degraded [3H]IP3 at rates of 74.5 (+/- 3.4) and 84.5 (+/- 7.9) pmol/min/micrograms protein, respectively. PME activity in 10/13 (77%) acute lymphoblastic leukemia samples were significantly below the normal range and the enzyme was completely undetectable in three (23%) of these. Enzyme activity in 8/9 (89%) chronic lymphocytic leukemia samples were below the normal range, being undetectable in three of these (33%). Nine of 24 (38%) acute myeloid leukemia samples contained low 5-PME levels, which was undetectable in one sample. Reduced 5-PME activity was detected in 2/7 (28%) of chronic granulocytic leukemia samples. The data here are consistent with the hypothesis that a reduced rate of degradation of IP3 and IP4 in some leukemia cells may result in the aberrant operation of signaling pathways, possibly including those involved in the control of cell proliferation.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Patients commonly complain about the appearance of acne scars. While various lasers and energy-based devices can offer clinical improvement, many of them are limited in treating patients with skin of color. Concerns exist regarding efficacy and safety, including risks of scarring, prolonged dyspigmentation, necrosis, and burns. OBJECTIVE To examine the utility of a 755-nm picosecond laser with fractionated lens array in improving the clinical appearance of acne scars in patients with Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI. MATERIALS AND METHODS A prospective clinical study investigated this laser using up to 5 monthly treatments. RESULTS Twenty-four subjects were enrolled, while 17 subjects completed a 3-month follow-up. The mean age was 33.9 years, and 95.8% of the subjects were women. Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI were represented. Assessments compared baseline to 3-month follow-up. Two of the 3 blinded reviewers agreed on identifying pretreatment and post-treatment photographs for 82.4% of the cases. For physician Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale, 100% of the subjects had clinical improvement. Overall, 94.1% of subjects were satisfied with their treatment. No serious or unanticipated adverse events occurred. CONCLUSION A 755-nm picosecond laser with fractionated lens array can safely and effectively improve acne scars in patients with Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI.

Abstract:It was to compare the differences in efficacy and safety for the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders by Q-switched alexandrite (Q-SA) laser and Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Nd:YAG) laser. The clinical data of 86 patients with hyperpigmentation disorders were collected and grouped: in the Q-SA laser and Nd:YAG laser groups according to the treatment methods, with 43 cases in each group. The clinical efficacy, skin barrier function (transdermal water loss (TEWL), stratum corneum water content, pH value, proteoglycan content), degree of pigmentation, serum inflammatory factors (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6)), and adverse reaction rate were compared after treatment. Compared with the Q-SA laser group, Nd:YAG laser group had decreased scab formation, healing, and scab shedding time, TEWL, pH value, and proteoglycan content, the increased water content of stratum corneum, decreased pigmentation score and area, and decreased serum levels of hs-CRP, TNF-α, and IL-6 (P<0.05). The total effective rates were 76.74% and 95.35%, and the adverse reaction rates were 30.23% and 6.98%, respectively in the Q-SA laser and Nd:YAG laser groups. Compared with the Q-SA laser group, Nd:YAG laser group had a higher total effective rate and lower incidence rate of adverse reactions (P<0.05). Nd:YAG laser plus rhEGF gel in the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders can effectively protect the skin barrier function, reduce skin pigmentation, reduce the inflammatory response, and improve the therapeutic effect, with high safety.
