Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study is to cross-culturally adapt the Post Hospitalization Behavior Questionnaire for Ambulatory Surgery (PHBQ-AS) to Turkish and test its validity and reliability. Design This is a methodological study. Methods This study was conducted with 121 children aged 1 to 12 years who underwent ambulatory surgery. The data of the study were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, PHBQ-AS, and the Parents' Postoperative Pain Measure. Data analysis and evaluation were performed using factor analysis, Cronbach's α analysis, item-total score correlation analysis, content validity, construct validity, and concurrent validity. Findings PHBQ-AS showed a high level of internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.801). The item-total correlation values of PHBQ-AS were found to be 0.458 to 0.753. PHBQ-AS was determined to be a single-factor scale explaining 66% of the variance in the examined variable. PHBQ-AS and Parents' Postoperative Pain Measure scores were moderately correlated. Conclusions The Turkish version of PHBQ-AS was highly valid and reliable for the Turkish population. A recommendation for health care professionals in Turkey is to use the PHBQ-AS scale to evaluate posthospitalization behavioral changes in children who are admitted for ambulatory surgery.

Psychometric Properties of the Chinese Version of the Preoperative Assessment of Readiness Tool among Surgical Patients

Abstract:BackgroundThe evaluation of the surgical readiness of patients plays an important role in clinical care. Preoperative readiness assessment is needed to identify the inadequacy among surgical patients, which provides guide for interventions to improve patients’ preoperative readiness. However, there is a paucity of high-level, quality tool that evaluate surgical readiness of patients in China. The purpose of this study is to translate the Preoperative Assessment of Readiness Tool (PART) into Chinese and determine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version in the population of surgical patients.MethodsUsing a standard translation-backward method, the original English version of PART was translated into Chinese. A convenient sampling of 210 surgical patients was recruited from 6 hospitals in Zhejiang Province to test the psychometric properties of this scale including internal consistency, split-half reliability, content validity, structure validity, and floor/ceiling effect.ResultsA total of 194 patients (92%) completed questionnaires. The Chinese version of PART achieved Cronbach’s alphas 0.948 and McDonald’s omega coefficient 0.947, respectively, for the full scale. The estimated odd-even split-half reliability was 0.959. The scale-level content validity index was 0.867, and the items content validity index ranged from 0.83 to 1.0.The output of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed a two-factor model (χ2 = 510.96; df = 86; p < 0.001; root mean square error approximation = 0.08) with no floor/ceiling effect.ConclusionThe Chinese version of PART demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity among surgical patients. It can be used to evaluate patients’ preoperative preparation and help health professionals provide proper preoperative support.
Psychometric Property Examination of a Self-Assessment Fear Scale in Turkish Children Aged 4–12 Years: A Methodological Study

Abstract:Background: Given the lack of validated tools to assess fear in Turkish children, this research aims to address this gap by conducting a methodological study to examine the validity and reliability of the Fear Scale, thereby providing health care professionals and researchers with a reliable instrument to evaluate fear levels in this population. Methods: The research was conducted on 150 children aged 4–12 years and their parents who applied to the pediatric blood collection unit of Koç Unıversıty Faculty of Medicine Hospital. In the study, the “Sociodemographic Characteristics Form,” “Fear Scale,” and “Child Fear Scale” were used for data collection. Results: A very high statistically significant positive relationship was obtained between the Fear Scale and the Child Fear Scale ( r = .973; p < .001). The high correlation value between the two forms indicates that the child form is valid. The content validity index and item content validity index values of the scale were found to be 0.98. A very good level of statistically significant agreement was achieved between the Fear Scale and the Child Fear Scale (κ = .878; p < .001). Conclusion: It was found that the Turkish psychometric properties of the Fear Scale are valid and reliable for children aged 4–12. It is suggested that pediatric nurses use the scale in clinics to evaluate their fear about procedural operations.

Abstract:Aim This study was performed to examine the Turkish validity and reliability of the Alder Hey Triage Pain Scale (AHTPS) for children aged 3–15 years who attended the pediatric emergency service with a complaint of pain. Material and method The sample for the methodological research was composed of 300 children between the ages of 3 and 15 who attended the University Training and Research Hospital Pediatric Emergency Clinic with a complaint of pain. Data were collected by using the Child and Parent Descriptive Information Form, Emergency Service Patient Triage, Treatment and Observation Form, AHTPS, and Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scale (WBFPS). Results Of the children participating in the study, 54.3% were female and 30.7% were between the ages of 12–15. The total content validity index score of the AHTPS was determined as 0.99 and the content validity rate score was 0.98. The interobserver concordance of AHTPS was examined and the concordance of two observers was significant and very good ( p < 0.001). For the concordance of scale with similar scales, the WBFPS was used and during the 1st and 2nd measurements, intra-observer reliability of AHTPS was statistically significant and very good ( p < 0.001). Cronbach alpha values of the scale were in the range of 0.619 and 0.679 and the scale was reliable. Conclusions As a result, the adaptation of the AHTPS to Turkish is a valid and reliable measurement tool. Practice implications Pain assessment for children attending the emergency service should be performed more systematically with scales like the AHTPS.

Abstract:The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory-Cognitive Functioning Scale (PedsQL TM -CFS) was developed as a brief, general, symptom-specific tool to measure cognitive function. The 6-item PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale and PedsQL 3.0 Cancer Module answered 369 parents and 330 children with 5–18 years. Parents also completed Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF). The PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale evidenced excellent reliability (parent proxy-report α = 0.980/Fleiss Kappa: 0.794; children self-report α = 0.963/Fleiss Kappa: 0.790). Both child self-report and parent proxy-report PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale scores exhibited significant correlations with all parent-report BRIEF summary and subscale scores ( p < .05). Both child self-report and parent proxy-report PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale scores exhibited significant correlations with PedsQL 3.0 Cancer Module total score and subscale scores ( p < .05). The PedsQL TM -CFS can be used in high-risk populations with substantial to perfect reliability, both in regards to total/subcategory scores as well as in children with cancer.

The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the parents' perception of satisfaction with care from pediatric nurse practitioners instrument

Abstract:Aim: This study was carried out to adapt a measurement tool that can be used to measure the perceived satisfaction level of parents of pediatric patients hospitalized in a pediatric clinic with care from pediatric nurses and to examine its psychometric properties. Design and method: The study was conducted methodologically with 301 parents of children who were hospitalized in the pediatric clinic of a university hospital between September and December 2023. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed on the data to establish the validity of the scale, Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient, split-half, item-total score methods were utilized to test its reliability. Results: The scale consisted of 26 items and a single dimension. It was determined that the total explained variance ratio was 79.246%. According to the confirmatory factor analysis results, goodness of fit values were determined as RMSEA = 0.077, CFI = 0.96, IFI = 0.97, RFI = 0.92, NFI = 0.93, and TLI = 0.96. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated as α = 0.989 for the total scale. Conclusion: The Parents' Perception of Satisfaction with Care from Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Instrument is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to measure the perceived satisfaction level of parents of pediatric patients hospitalized in a pediatric clinic with nursing care. Implications for practice: The scale can contribute to determining the perceived satisfaction levels of parents of pediatric patients hospitalized in the pediatric clinic with nursing care and, if there is a problem, to providing regular in-service training for pediatric nurses who are responsible for pediatric patient safety and quality of care.
Anxiety level and risk factors among pediatric patients in endoscopic procedures outside the operating room: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:Aim: Endoscopy under anesthesia creates stress and anxiety in children and their parents. In this study, we aimed to determine the preoperative anxiety levels of parents and patients who were routinely informed before endoscopy and examine the relationship between children and parents' state and trait anxiety levels. Methods: A cross-sectional study was planned in which pediatric patients and parents were included. The study comprised 104 ASA I-II patients, aged 6-14 years, who were scheduled for endoscopy under deep sedation, and their parents. Immediately after the child patient was taken to the treatment room, parents were asked to fill out the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. The demographic characteristics of the patients were recorded. The children’s anxiety level immediately after separation from parents was evaluated with Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (m-YPAS). The patients were divided into two groups according to anxiety levels. Those with m-YPAS >30 were considered the anxiety (+) group, m-YPAS ≤30 were defined as the anxiety (-) group. Results: The mean age of the patients was 11.8 (2.6) years (6-14). Twenty-nine patients had m-YPAS> 30, and 75 patients had m-YPAS ≤30. Parent anxiety levels were not significantly different between the two groups. There was a strong negative correlation (r=-0.589, P<0.001) between child’s anxiety and child age, a negative moderate correlation between child’s anxiety and parent age (r=-0.259, P=0.008), and weak positive correlation between child’s anxiety and complications (r=0.218, P=0.026). Young age was determined as an independent risk factor for increased child anxiety (OR: 0.501, P<0.001, 95% CI: 0.390-0.643). Conclusion: There is no relationship between preoperative anxiety in school-age children and parental anxiety. Young age is an independent risk factor for the development of anxiety in the child.
Development and psychometric testing of the Pediatric Atraumatic Care Attitude Scale (PACAS) in pediatric nurses

Abstract:Objective: The study aimed to develop and validate the Pediatric Atraumatic Care Attitude Scale (PACAS) for pediatric nurses, measuring attitudes toward atraumatic care practices. Methods: This methodological and correlational study included 336 pediatric nurses from various clinics in Turkey, between January and August 2024. Construct validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Internal consistency was assessed through item-total score correlation, test-retest reliability, and Cronbach's α coefficients. Results: The content validity index (CVI) for PACAS items ranged from 0.84 to 1.00. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) coefficient was 0.978, and Bartlett's test of sphericity was significant (χ2 = 14,110.425, P < .001), supporting factor analysis. EFA revealed a two-factor structure with 31 items, explaining 76.7 % of the variance. The factors, "Knowledge and Awareness" and "Practice and Family Involvement," had loadings between 0.716 and 0.901 and 0.751-0.962, respectively. CFA confirmed the model fit (χ2/df = 2.77, RMSEA = 0.073, NFI = 0.92, NNFI = 0.97, CFI = 0.94, GFI = 0.91). Cronbach's α was 0.985, with subscale coefficients of 0.978 and 0.983. Test-retest reliability showed strong correlations (r = 0.980, r = 0.985, r = 0.957), with no significant differences between test and retest scores (P > .05). Conclusions: PACAS is a reliable and valid tool for assessing pediatric nurses' attitudes toward atraumatic care, with the potential to enhance pediatric nursing practices by improving adherence to atraumatic care principles. Implications to practice: PACAS helps integrate atraumatic care into nursing, enhancing pediatric care quality and outcomes.

Abstract:Perceptual and Motor Skills, Ahead of Print. We investigated the psychometric properties of a Turkish version of the Young Children's Participation and Environment Measure (YC-PEM-T). Our participants were 367 children (212 children with disabilities and 155 children without disabilities; M age = 40.76 months, SD = 20.33; range 0–71 months) and their parents, who were selected by a convenience sampling method. We translated and cross-culturally adapted the original YC-PEM from English to Turkish (YC-PEM-T). We found the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the YC-PEM-T to be good with a Croanbach's alpha ranging from .68 to .94, and intraclass correlation coefficients ranging from .69 to .89 after the YC-PEM-T was administered twice to 100 parents within a three week period. In a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) we compared YC-PEM-T scores between children with and without the presence of a disability and found significant differences (p < .05). While we found significant differences between three different age groups, they did not follow consistently. To evaluate discriminant validity, we followed up these ANOVAs with post-hoc analyses when results were statistically significant. Regarding concurrent validity, there were strong to very strong relationships between scores on the participation part of the YC-PEM-T and both the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI; .701 < r < .854, p < .001), and the European Child Environment Questionnaire (ECEQ; - .632 < r < - .690, p < .001). We concluded that the YC-PEM-T is a valid, reliable, and culturally adapted tool for evaluating daily life participation and adaptation to environmental factors in young Turkish children. We can recommend the YC-PEM-T for use in clinical settings and for epidemiological research to assess young children's participation in activities in the home, preschool and community. We also recommend that future investigators examine other psychometric properties of this scale, including its interpretation and capacity to differentiate varied diagnostic and disability groups.

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the "Caring Ability of Family Caregivers of Patients with Cancer Scale" in parents of children with cancer". Methods: The current study has a methodological design. The study group consisted of 493 parents of children with oncological problems who were followed in the pediatric hematology-oncology departments of three university hospitals. Data were collected between January and December 2021 through convenience sampling. The face, content construct validity, internal consistency, and scale stability were evaluated. SPSS 26.0 and LISREL 8.80 package programs were used to analyze the data. Results: In the confirmatory factor analysis; root mean- mean square error of approximation, comparative fit index, normed fit index, and non-normed fit index were determined to be 0.08, 0.93, 0.91, and 0.92, respectively. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient obtained from the entire scale was calculated to be 0.88, the stability correlation coefficient was 0.84 (p < .005) and the item-total correlation coefficient was calculated between 0.249 and 0.716. Conclusions: The scale adapted to Turkish culture can be considered a valid and reliable tool for the assessment of the caring ability of family caregivers of patients with cancer. Implications for nursing practice: The scale can be used to assess parents' caregiving abilities, to determine their strengths and weaknesses. In this respect, it can contribute to the creation of an education plan, the development of parents' caregiving abilities and the increase in the quality of care.
Psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale-Parent Form (Ped-RHDS)

Abstract:Background An objective evaluation of parents' perceived readiness for the discharge of their child from hospital may aid in the prevention of readmission and rehospitalization. This study examined the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale-Parent Form (Ped-RHDS) for children in Turkey. Methods The parents of 160 children planned for discharge from the pediatric surgery and pediatric departments were included. Cronbach's α, exploratory factor, confirmatory factor, item-total correlation, and criterion validity analyses of the Turkish Ped-RHDS were performed. Results The Turkish Ped-RHDS has 26 items in 5 factors explaining 52.212% of the total scale variance. The scale had a Cronbach's alpha of 0.842. In exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, item factor loadings were higher than 0.30 and comparative fit and goodness of fit indices were 0.96 and 0.93, respectively. In criterion-based validity, total Ped-RHDS score weakly correlated with scores on the Post-Discharge Coping Difficulty Scale ( r = −0.164; p = 0.039). Item-item total score correlations for the Turkish Ped-RHDS were between 0.329 and 0.532. Conclusion The Turkish Ped-RHDS is valid and reliable as a parent-reported instrument for the assessment of hospital discharge readiness in children and parents. Practice implications Healthcare professionals can use this assessment tool to measure parental and child discharge readiness before children are discharged from hospital. The Turkish Ped-RHDS should be integrated into discharge readiness assessment as standard practice in the discharge of pediatric patients.

Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Validation of the Greek Cypriot Montreal Children’s Hospital Feeding Scale

Abstract:Introduction: Assessing pediatric feeding difficulties (PFD) is essential for a child’s development to prevent severe consequences. The assessment procedures for PFD may include parents’ questionnaires such as the Montreal Children’s Hospital Feeding Scale (MCH-FS). The aim of this study was the cross-cultural adaptation of the MCH-FS to the Greek language. Methods: 100 parents of Greek Cypriot children with PFD (clinical group) and 100 parents of healthy Greek Cypriot children (control group) aged six months to 16 years old participated in the study and completed the MCH-FS. World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines were implemented for translation and cultural adaptation. Results: The internal consistency was excellent α= 0.85 (ICC: 0.817-0.891). Content validity was significant (S-CVI=1) with an agreement equal to 14. A strong and significant correlation of MCH-FS was computed according to Principal Component Αnalysis (PCA) [14 items ranging between -0.6 and 0.7]. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) Factor analysis was equal to 0.91 with substantial correlations (Bartlett’s test= 0.001654804). The MCH-FS cut-off point between the two groups was 38.00 [AUC 0.901, (95% CI: 0.859-0.942), p<0.001; sensitivity= 0.800 and 1-specificity= 0.630]. A statistically significant difference between the two groups was observed for the MCH-FS total score, with the clinical group scoring higher [U= 992.00, p< 0.001]. Likewise, the same differences were observed among children with different PFD, H (3) = 96.715, p< 0.001. Conclusion: The MCH-FS had good psychometric properties in its current form in Greek. It is suggested that the MCH-FS can be used as a valid tool for children with PFD in the Greek Cypriot population.

Cross-cultural Adaptation of the Avoidance of Daily Activities Photo Scale for Turkish patients with shoulder pain: Reliability and validity assessment according to the COSMIN guideline

Abstract:Context: People with chronic or long-term pain may develop various psychosocial symptoms such as fear and avoidance of behavior due to pain. Reliable and valid quality of life tools must be available in Turkish to specifically assess avoidance of behavior in people with shoulder pain. Objectives: This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Avoidance of Daily Activities Photo Scale for Patients with Shoulder Pain and to evaluate the psychometric properties of its Turkish version (ADAP-Tr) in patients with shoulder pain. Methods: Translation, adaptation, and validation were performed according to the COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments) guidelines. The internal consistency, reliability, construct validity, and discriminant validity of the ADAP-Tr were tested. The Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), and Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) were applied for validation purposes. Results: The study included a total of 162 participants with shoulder pain. The internal consistency of the ADAP-Tr showed excellent reliability with a Cronbach's α of 0.94 and a test-retest assessment of 0.88 ICC (95% CI, 0.83-0.91). The standard error of measurement was 1.85 points, and the minimal detectable change was determined 5.12 points. There was a low to high correlation among the ADAP-Tr and PCS (r = 0.481, p < .001), TSK (r = 0.448, p < .001), and SPADI (r = 0.826, p < .001) scores. Conclusions: The ADAP-Tr was shown to be a valid and strong reliability tool to use in clinical and research settings as a shoulder-specific measurement tool.
Evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the child forensic attitude scale

Abstract:Purpose: This study was carried out to adapt the child forensic attitude scale into Turkish and evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods: This methodological, descriptive, and correlational study was conducted with a total of 363 professionals, including 40 physicians, 87 nurses, 79 lawyers, 81 law enforcement officers, 20 psychologists, and 56 social service experts, between January 2023 and February 2023. The study data were collected online using a "Personal Information Form" and the "Child Forensic Attitude Scale". Explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, item-total score analysis were used for the evaluation of the data. Results: It was determined that the scale consisted of 28 items and three sub-dimensions, namely fear of not identifying abuse, fear of overcalling abuse, skepticism, which explained 44.11 % of the total variance. In confirmatory factor analysis, all fit indices were greater than 0.85. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was determined as 0.80 for the total scale. Conclusions: According to the results of the analyses and evaluations in this study, the child forensic attitude scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for the Turkish sample. Practice implications: Child sexual abuse is a serious problem globally and the fields of justice, security, health, social services need to collaborate to protect and guarantee victims' rights. Professionals working in this field have difficulties in evaluating children who have been abused. For this reason, it is very important to evaluate the attitudes of professionals, especially pediatric nurses, in this process and will guide the shaping of the initiatives to be taken.

Abstract:Cancer incidence and mortality in a cohort of 6,000 Seventh-day Adventist nonsmokers who were residents of California were monitored for a 6-y period, and relationships with long-term ambient concentrations of total suspended particulates (TSPs) and ozone (O3) were studied. Ambient concentrations were expressed as mean concentrations and exceedance frequencies, which are the number of hours during which concentrations exceeded specified cutoffs (e.g., federal and California air quality standards). Risk of malignant neoplasms in females increased concurrently with exceedance frequencies for all TSP cutoffs, except the lowest, and these increased risks were highly statistically significant. An increased risk of respiratory cancers was associated with only one cutoff of O3, and this result was of borderline significance. These results are presented in the context of setting standards for these two air pollutants.

Abstract:OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying, Ahead of Print. To translate and culturally adapt the Perinatal Bereavement Care Competence Scale (PBCCS) scale into Turkish (T- PBCCS) and determine its psychometric properties. This reliability and validity study was conducted with 150 midwives between April and September 2024. The 150 active midwives completed the information form and the T-PBCCS forms. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a six-factor structure consistent with the theoretical framework, explaining 70.07% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis showed a good fit for the six-factor model. The Cronbach's a value of the scale was .92 and the test-retest reliability coefficient was .99. Some statements in the original structure of the scale were excluded from the scale because they could not be adequately validated in Turkish culture. The results of the statistical analyses of the Perinatal Bereavement Care Competence Scale adapted to Turkish culture showed that it gave valid and reliable results in Turkish culture.

Optimizing Early Detection: Validating Obstructive Sleep Apnea-18 (OSA-18) in Turkish-Speaking Pediatric Patients

Abstract:Objective: Quality of life (QoL) assessments are increasingly important for evaluating the well-being of children with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). This study's objective is to culturally adapt and validate the Turkish version of the OSA-18 questionnaire, a commonly used tool for assessing QoL in children with OSAS. Methods: The OSA-18 questionnaire was translated and culturally adapted for use in the Turkish-speaking population. The study was conducted with 180 participants, 100 boys and 80 girls, with a mean age of 6.16±2.14 years. The participants were divided into two groups. The patient group comprised individuals with symptoms of OSAS based on clinical evaluation, including anamnesis, physical examination, and video recording of apnea and snoring. The patient group underwent adenotonsillectomy and their caregivers completed the Turkish version of the OSA-18 scale postoperatively. The control group comprised 90 children who were similar to the patient group in terms of gender and age. These children had no major complaints such as snoring, apnea, fatigue during the day, irritability, or distraction. In the physical examination of this group, no major tonsillar or adenoid hypertrophy, which causes significant stenosis in the upper airway, was observed. Internal consistency, reliability, validity, responsiveness, and factor analysis were assessed. Results: The Turkish version of the OSA-18 questionnaire demonstrated excellent reliability, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.929. The test-retest results were not statistically different. Validity was confirmed through a positive correlation between the OSA-18 score and external parameters, such as the Mallampati score, and tonsil and adenoid size. We found a statistically significant reduction in OSA-18 scores postoperatively, signifying a robust responsiveness to the intervention. Conclusion: Our study confirms the suitability of the Turkish OSA-18 questionnaire for assessing the QoL in children with OSAS. This quick and easy-to-use tool will be valuable for future research on Turkish-speaking children with OSAS, aiding in the evaluation of pediatric OSAS and QoL.
Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Psychometric Validation of the Turkish Version of Pain Resilience Scale

Abstract:Evaluation &the Health Professions, Ahead of Print. The Pain Resilience Scale (PRS) is a useful tool that evaluates behavioral engagement and adaptively regulates cognitions and emotions despite the pain. This study aimed to translate the PRS to Turkish and investigate its psychometric properties. The Turkish version of PRS was completed online by 332 healthy adults, and a subset of 105 respondents was re-assessed after 7–14 days. The reliability of the adapted measure was evaluated in terms of internal consistency, relative, and absolute test-retest reliability. Validity was evaluated in terms of structural, construct, and known-group validity using positive and negative psychological scales. The Turkish version of PRS has a three-factor structure and its cumulative variance is 78.06%. The total PRS score and its subscales correlated positively with pain self-efficacy, general resilience, and quality of life, and negatively with pain catastrophizing, kinesiophobia, anxiety, depression, and disability. The PRS scores were significantly higher in those with high general resilience (p < 0.001). The PRS had high internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) and Minimum Detectable Difference (MDD) were calculated as 2.9 and 8.0, respectively. The Turkish version of PRS is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring pain resilience in terms of behavioral perseverance and cognitive positivity.

Abstract:Background: The Abeer Children Dental Anxiety Scale (ACDAS) source language was developed and validated in an English-speaking country in the UK to measure dental anxiety among children. The ACDAS also included the child's cognitive assessment, as well as feedback from the parent or the legal guardian and a dental health professional (DHP). This is the first study to validate the application of the ACDAS in Malay or Bahasa Melayu for children aged 6-16 years. Aim: To assess the Malay-translated version of the ACDAS, postadaptation into the local context and validation by the content and construct experts. Design: The English ACDAS was translated into Malay first through forward translation and then through backward translation. The prefinal translated version of the instrument was designed, with the participation of 61 children and 61 parents or legal guardians. Subsequently, a final cross-cultural adaptation of the instrument was then made for another group of participants and evaluated for validity and test-retest reliability among 144 children and 144 parents or legal guardians participating in the self-report feedback process at the Paediatric Dental Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The cross-cultural adaptation of the instrument considered translating to Malaysian national language and adapting to its culture. Results: The Malay-translated ACDAS consisted of 19 items. The translated version of Malaysian-ACDAS (MY-ACDAS) achieved an acceptable agreement between six expert committee members with an internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha value, αconsistency) of 0.839. The test-retest reliability results of all participants support semantic and conceptual equivalence as an accepted construct validity between the children, parents and DHPs across the multicultural Malaysian population. Conclusion: The MY-ACDAS is a valid and reliable scale for measuring dental anxiety among Malaysian children.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Anesthesia and surgery are common sources of anxiety and stressful experiences in children. This unpleasant sensation depends on several factors. This study aimed to determine the magnitude of preoperative anxiety and associated factors in pediatrics patients at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital North West Ethiopia 2020.METHODS: An institutional-based cross-sectional observational study was conducted from March to September 2020 at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. After obtaining ethical approval from the institutional review board. All consecutive ASA physical status I & II boys and girls with the age of 2-12 years scheduled for a variety of elective (general, urologic, ENT, ophthalmic and other surgical) operations were included. The level of anxiety was measured using the Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale short form (m-YPAS-SF) observational tool. Parental anxiety was assessed using Spielberger's short version of state-trait anxiety. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the association between preoperative children's anxiety and independent variables. The strength of the association was present by adjusted odds ratios.RESULTS: The magnitude of preoperative anxiety in children in the operation room was 75.44% (95% confidence interval (CI): 68.36, 81.34). Age (AOR: 3.83; 95% CI: 1.58, 9.30), previous surgery and anesthesia (AOR: 6.73, 95% CI: 1.25, 36.19), outpatient surgery (AOR: 5.16, 95% CI: 1.32, 20.23) and parental anxiety (AOR: 3.26, 95% CI: 1.30, 20.23) were significantly associated with preoperative children anxiety.CONCLUSION: The magnitude of preoperative anxiety in pediatric patients was considerably high in our setup. Younger age, previous surgery and anesthesia, outpatient surgical setting, and parental anxiety were the independent risk factors for preoperative anxiety. Therefore, the operating staff should assess the child's anxiety and should consider appropriate anxiety reduction methods during the preoperative visit of pediatric patients and their families.
