Abstract:Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) represents a world public health relevant problem especially in children. Enteric viruses are the pathogens mainly involved in the episodes of AGE, causing about 70.00% of the cases. Apart from well‐known rotavirus (RVA), adenovirus (AdV) and norovirus (NoV), there are various emerging viral pathogens potentially associated with AGE episodes. In this study, the presence of ten different enteric viruses was investigated in 152 fecal samples collected from children hospitalized for gastroenteritis. Real time PCR results showed that 49.3% of them were positive for viral detection with the following prevalence: norovirus GII 19.7%, AdV 15.8%, RVA 10.5%, human parechovirus (HPeV) 5.3%, enterovirus (EV) 3.3%, sapovirus (SaV) 2.6%. Salivirus (SalV), norovirus GI and astrovirus (AstV) 1.3% each, aichivirus (AiV) found in only one patient. In 38.2% of feces only one virus was detected, while co‐infections were identified in 11.8% of the cases. Among young patients, 105 were ≤5 years old and 56.0% tested positive for viral detection, while 47 were >5 years old with 40.0% of them infected. Results obtained confirm a complex plethora of viruses potentially implicated in gastroenteritis in children, with some of them previously known for other etiologies but detectable in fecal samples. Subsequent studies should investigate the role of these viruses in causing gastroenteritis and explore the possibility that other symptoms may be ascribed to multiple infections.

Abstract:Surveillance of norovirus infections in sporadic cases of pediatric gastroenteritis admitted to a main hospital in Northern Italy during a full-year period (2002) showed that noroviruses (10.4%) were the second most common causative viral agent, following rotaviruses (21.1%), and noroviruses (81%) were mostly implicated in mixed infections. The epidemic period of norovirus was September-December, with September and November as months of major prevalence (33.3 and 38.5%, respectively). Six distinct norovirus genotypes were detected (GI.7, GII.1, GII.2, GII.4, GII.7, GII, not assigned named GIIb), and the predominant genotype was GII.4. A "new GII.4 2002 variant" accounted for 82.9% of total strains. Since the severity of norovirus symptoms does not usually require admission to hospital, the burden of norovirus disease in the general children population may be much higher than that suggested by the present hospital-based investigation.

Abstract:Mass spectrometry techniques for high-throughput analysis of complex samples are of profound importance in many areas such as food safety, omics studies, and environmental health science. Here we report the use of fluorographene (FG) as a new mass spectrometry probe for high-throughput identification and screening of emerging chemical contaminants in complex samples. FG was facilely synthesized by one-step exfoliation of fluorographite. With FG as a matrix or probe in matrix-assisted or surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI- or SELDI-TOF MS), higher sensitivity (detection limits at ppt or subppt levels), and better reproducibility were achieved than with other graphene-based materials due to the unique chemical structure and self-assembly properties of FG. The method was validated with different types of real complex samples. By using FG as a SELDI probe, we could easily detect trace amount of bisphenol S in paper products and high-fat canned food samples. Furthermore, we have successfully identified and screened as many as 28 quaternary ammonium halides in sewage sludge samples collected from municipal wastewater treatment plants. These results demonstrate that FG probe is a powerful tool for high-throughput analysis of complex samples by MS.
Zero-internal fields in nonpolar InGaN/GaN multi-quantum wells grown by the multi-buffer layer technique

Abstract:The potential of nonpolar a-plane InGaN/GaN multi-quantum wells (MQWs), which are free from a strong piezoelectric field, was demonstrated. An a-GaN template grown on an r-plane sapphire substrate by the multi-buffer layer technique showed high structural quality with an omega full width at half maximum value along the c-axis of 418 arcsec obtained from high-resolution x-ray diffraction analysis. From barrier analysis by deep level transient spectroscopy, it appeared that a-plane InGaN/GaN MQWs can solve the efficiency droop problem as they have a lower electron capture barrier than the c-plane sample. The peak shift of the temperature-dependent photoluminescence signal for the nonpolar InGaN/GaN MQWs was well fitted by Varshni’s empirical equation with zero-internal fields. A high photoluminescence efficiency of 0.27 from this sample also showed that nonpolar MQWs can be the key factor to solve the efficiency limitation in conventional c-plane GaN based light emitting diodes.

Abstract:Background Multiplex-PCR is a valuable tool for diagnosing viral acute gastroenteritis (AGE), enabling the detection of multiple pathogens. However, distinguishing between active disease and shedding poses challenges. This study aimed to evaluate viral AGE epidemiology and compare clinical characteristics among the five most common viruses. Methods Rotavirus vaccine was introduced in 2010, with 70% coverage achieved in southern Israel in two years. All rectal swabs for multiplex-PCR targeting rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus, astrovirus and sapovirus from hospitalized diarrheic children <5 years were included, from December 2017 through March 2022. Detection of the same virus within two months was considered a single episode. Clinical analysis included episodes with single-virus detection and negative bacterial PCR. Results Among 5,879 rectal swabs, 2,662 (45.3%) tested positive for at least one virus, with 245 (9.2%) showing multiple virus detection. Rotavirus was the most prevalent. While rotavirus exhibited typical winter-spring seasonality in 2018-19, an unusual off-season surge was observed during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among negative bacterial PCR episodes, 34.6% had mucus stool, 5.9% had bloody stool, and 29.3% received antibiotics. Astrovirus or sapovirus infections were associated with higher rates of hospital-acquired AGE and immunodeficiency ( P <0.05), whereas rotavirus infections had higher rates of dehydration severity and acute kidney injury ( P <0.05). Discussion Enteric viruses were detected in 45.3% of rectal swabs from hospitalized children with diarrhea. Despite vaccination efforts, rotavirus remained prevalent and caused more severe disease. Continuous surveillance using multiplex-PCR is crucial for accurate management and future prevention strategies for viral AGE.

Prevalence and genetic diversity of gastroenteritis viruses in hospitalized children < 5 years of age in Maharashtra state, Western India, 2017-2019

Abstract:Four gastroenteritis viruses were responsible for 54% of the acute gastroenteritis (AGE) cases in children hospitalized between May 2017 and December 2019 in Pune city of Maharashtra state, Western India. The majority (79%) of the children were <2 years of age. The prevalence of Rotavirus A (RVA) was 30.5% followed by 14.3% for norovirus, 8.4% for adenovirus, and 5.5% for astrovirus. The severity of the disease was highest in patients with coinfections compared with the patients with a single infection or negative for all (p = 0.024). Genotyping analysis showed that the majority of the RVA-positive samples (66%) could be typed as G3P[8], 63.6% of the norovirus as GII.4 Sydney [P16], 44% of the adenovirus as type 41%, and 56.2% of the astrovirus as astrovirus type 1. The almost equivalent prevalence of rotavirus and nonrotaviruses and acute gastroenteritis (AGE) cases without known etiology in around 46% of the cases was noted in the present study. Our data highlight that after the recent inclusion of rotavirus vaccines as a part of the National Immunization schedule in India, conducting extensive AGE surveillance in children should include nonrotaviruses such as norovirus.
Frequency and seasonal distribution of adenovirus and rotavirus in children diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis: A single centre experience

Abstract:Aim: We aimed to investigate the relationship between age, gender, and season with respect to the frequency of rotavirus and adenovirus antigens in stool specimens obtained from children one month to 18 years of age who were diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. Materials and Methods: The records of stool specimen analyses for 1960 patients with diagnosis of acute gastroenteritis at our hospital from January 2017 to August 2022 were retrospectively examined. The patient's admission year, season, gender, age, and stool viral antigen test results were retrospectively analyzed from the file records. Results: Viral antigen was detected in stool specimen in 364 (13.8%) of the patients included in the study, while 92 (4.7%) of them were rotavirus and 180 (9.1%) were adenoviruses. We found that both rotavirus and adenovirus were most common in the children one month-2 years of age. In our study, rotavirus was most commonly detected in December and winter, while adenovirus was detected in March and spring. Twenty-six (28.2%) patients with rotavirus gastroenteritis and 68 (37.7%) patients with adenovirus gastroenteritis were hospitalized and treated. Conclusion: Our study showed now that rotavirus and adenovirus, which are the agents of viral gastroenteritis, are seen at a substantial rate. Especially in children under the two years of age, the frequency of detection of viral agents is higher. Enteric adenovirus and rotavirus were detected more frequently in winter and spring. We suggest that viral gastroenteritis agents should be considered and examined in children with suspected gastroenteritis.
Molecular characterization of human enteric viruses in food, water samples, and surface swabs in Sicily

Abstract:Objectives: Enteric viruses are responsible for foodborne and waterborne infections affecting a large number of people. Data on food and water viral contamination in the south of Italy (Sicily) are scarce and fragmentary. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of viral contamination in food, water samples, and surface swabs collected in Sicily METHODS: The survey was conducted on 108 shellfish, 23 water samples (seawater, pipe water, and torrent water), 52 vegetables, one peach and 17 berries, 11 gastronomic preparations containing fish products and/or raw vegetables, and 28 surface swabs. Hepatitis A virus (HAV), genogroup GI, GII, and GIV norovirus (NoV), enterovirus (EV), rotavirus (RoV), hepatitis E virus (HEV), adenovirus (AdV), and bocavirus (BoV) were detected by nested (RT) PCR, real-time PCR, and sequence analysis. Results: The most frequently detected viruses in shellfish were HAV (13%), NoV (18.5%), and EV (7.4%). Bocavirus was found in 3.7%, HEV in 0.9%, and AdV in 1.9% of the molluscs. Of the 23 water samples, 21.7% were positive for GII NoV and 4.3% for RoV and HEV genotype 3. Of the 70 vegetable samples, 2.9% were positive for NoV GI (GI.5 and GI.6), 2.9% for EV, and 1.4% for HEV. In the gastronomic preparations, only one EV (9%) was detected. No enteric viruses were detected in the berries, fruit, or swabs analyzed. Conclusions: Molecular surveillance of water and food samples clearly demonstrated that human pathogenic viruses are widely found in aquatic environments and on vegetables, and confirmed the role of vegetables and bivalve molluscs as the main reservoirs.

Abstract:Paediatric acute gastroenteritis is a global public health problem. Comprehensive laboratory investigation for viral, bacterial and parasitic agents is helpful for improving management of acute gastroenteritis in health care settings and for monitoring and controlling the spread of these infections. Our study aimed to investigate the role of various pathogens in infantile diarrhoea in Bulgaria outside the classical winter epidemics of rotavirus and norovirus. Stool samples from 115 hospitalized children aged 0-3 years collected during summer months were tested for presence of 14 infectious agents - group A rotavirus, astrovirus, Giardia, Cryptosporidium and Entamoeba using ELISAs; norovirus by real-time RT-PCR; picobirnavirus and sapovirus by RT-PCR; adenovirus using PCR, and Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli, Yersinia and Campylobacter using standard bacterial cultures. Infectious origin was established in a total of 92 cases and 23 samples remained negative. A single pathogen was found in 67 stools, of which rotaviruses were the most prevalent (56.7 %), followed by noroviruses (19.4 %), enteric adenoviruses (7.5 %), astroviruses (6.0 %), bacteria and parasites (4.5 % each) and sapoviruses (1.4 %). Rotavirus predominant genotypes were G4P[8] (46.3 %) and G2P[4] (21.4 %); for astroviruses, type 1a was the most common, while the GII.4/2006b variant was the most prevalent among noroviruses. Bacteria were observed in five cases, with Salmonella sp. as the most prevalent, while parasites were found in ten stool samples, with Giardia intestinalis in five cases. The results demonstrated high morbidity associated with viral infections and that rotavirus and norovirus remain the most common pathogens associated with severe gastroenteritis during summer months in Bulgaria, a country with a temperate climate, and significant molecular diversity among circulating virus strains.
Clinical Profiles of Childhood Astrovirus-, Sapovirus-, and Norovirus-Associated Acute Gastroenteritis in Pediatric Emergency Departments in Alberta, 2014-2018

Abstract:Background: Infections by previously underdiagnosed viruses astrovirus and sapovirus are poorly characterized compared with norovirus, the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis. Methods: Children <18 years old with acute gastroenteritis were recruited from pediatric emergency departments in Alberta, Canada between 2014 and 2018. We described and compared the clinical course of acute gastroenteritis in children with astrovirus, sapovirus, and norovirus. Results: Astrovirus was detected in 56 of 2688 (2.1%) children, sapovirus was detected in 146 of 2688 (5.4%) children, and norovirus was detected in 486 of 2688 (18.1%) children. At illness onset, ~60% of astrovirus cases experienced both diarrhea and vomiting. Among sapovirus and norovirus cases, 35% experienced diarrhea at onset and 80% of 91% (sapovirus/norovirus) vomited; however, diarrhea became more prevalent than vomiting at approximately day 4 of illness. Over the full course of illness, diarrhea was 18% (95% confidence interval [CI], 8%- 29%) more prevalent among children with astrovirus than norovirus infections and had longer duration with greater maximal events; there were a median of 4.0 fewer maximal vomiting events (95% CI, 2.0-5.0). Vomiting continued for a median of 24.8 hours longer (95% CI, 9.6-31.7) among children with sapovirus versus norovirus. Differences between these viruses were otherwise minimal. Conclusions: Sapovirus infections attended in the emergency department are more similar to norovirus than previously reported, whereas astrovirus infections have several distinguishable characteristics.
A Comparison of Pathogen Detection and Risk Factors among Symptomatic Children with Gastroenteritis Compared with Asymptomatic Children in the Post-rotavirus Vaccine Era

Abstract:Objective: To describe demographics, pathogen distribution/seasonality, and risk factors in children seeking care for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) at a midwestern US emergency department during 5 postrotavirus vaccine years (2011-2016), and further, to compare the same data with matched healthy controls (HC). Study design: AGE and HC participants <11 years old enrolled in the New Vaccine Surveillance Network study between December 2011 to June 2016 were included. AGE was defined as ≥3 diarrhea episodes or ≥1 vomiting episode. Each HC's age was similar to an AGE participant's age. Pathogens were analyzed for seasonality effects. Participant risk factors for AGE illness and pathogen detections were compared between HC and a matched subset of AGE cases. Results: One or more organisms was detected in 1159 of 2503 children (46.3%) with AGE compared with 99 of 537 HC (17.3%). Norovirus was detected most frequently among AGE (n = 568 [22.7%]) and second-most frequently in HC (n = 39 [6.8%]). Rotavirus was the second most frequently detected pathogen among AGE (n = 196 [7.8%]). Children with AGE were significantly more likely to have reported a sick contact compared with HC, both outside the home (15.6% vs 1.4%; P < .001) and inside the home (18.6% vs 2.1%; P < .001). Daycare attendance was higher among children with AGE (41.4%) compared with HC (29.5%; P < .001). The Clostridium difficile detection rate was slightly higher among HC (7.0%) than AGE (5.3%). Conclusions: Norovirus was the most prevalent pathogen among children with AGE. Norovirus was detected in some HC, suggesting potential asymptomatic shedding among HC. The proportion of AGE participants with a sick contact was approximately 10 times greater than that of HC.
Identification of a novel intra-genotype reassortant G1P[8] rotavirus in Italy, 2021

Abstract:Objectives Rotaviruses G1P[8] are epidemiologically relevant and are targeted by vaccines. The introduction of vaccines has altered rotavirus epidemiology. Hospital-based surveillance conducted in Sicily, Italy, showed a progressive decline in rotavirus prevalence since 2014, along with an increasing vaccine coverage (63.8% in 2020), and a marked decrease in circulation of G1P[8] strains. Surprisingly in 2021, G1P[8] viruses accounted for 90.5% (19/21) of rotavirus infections. This study aimed to understand if the increased activity of G1P[8]s was related to virus-related peculiarities. Design In 2021, 266 patients <15 years of age were hospitalized with acute gastro-enteritis (AGE) and included in rotavirus surveillance. VP7/VP4 genotyping and sequence data were generated from all rotavirus-positive samples. The genetic make- up of G1P[8] rotaviruses was investigated by full-genome sequencing. Results Peculiar G1P[8] rotaviruses, with VP7 and VP4 belonging to novel sub-lineages, circulated in 2021, accounting for 76.2% (16/21) of all rotavirus infections. On full-genome analysis, the novel G1P[8] variant displayed an intra-genotype (Wa-like) reassortant constellation, involving G12 and G1 strains, into a unique arrangement never observed before. The novel G1P[8] variant showed peculiar aa substitutions in 8-1 and 8-3 epitopes of the VP4 with respect to the Rotarix strain. Conclusion Prompt identification of virus variants circulating in human population is pivotal to understanding epidemiological trends and assessing vaccine efficacy.

Abstract:Background: Gastroenteritis is a major cause of childhood morbidity and mortality worldwide. Rotavirus, human caliciviruses (HucV), adenovirus, and astrovirus are recognized as common etiologies of acute gastroenteritis.Objectives: To use antigen detection and molecular methods to determine the viral etiology of childhood diarrhea in Lanzhou, China, 2005-2007.Study design: 544 stool specimens were collected from children hospitalized with diarrhea. ELISA, RT-PCR, or PCR were used to detect viruses commonly causing diarrhea.Results: Group A rotavirus, norovirus, sapovirus, astrovirus, and adenovirus, were detected in 54.0%, 9.2%, 1.1%, 3.3%, and 4.4%, respectively. No group B or group C rotaviruses were detected. The relative contribution of these viruses changed greatly over 2 years. The percentage of rotavirus and adenovirus dropped from 61.2% and 5.4% to 47.6% and 1.4%, whereas HucV increased from 5.0% to 15.0%. G1 and P[8] were the predominant rotavirus strains, and P[6] was detected for the first time in this area. The predominant norovirus strain changed from GII3 to GII4, and the subtypes of GII4 changed from the Hunter strain to the variant 2006b strain.Conclusions: The distribution of viruses and genotypes of individual viruses causing gastroenteritis in Lanzhou, China changed greatly during 2005-2007. Abstract:Abstract Background Despite vaccine-induced decreases in US rotavirus (RV) disease, acute gastroenteritis (AGE) remains relatively common. We evaluated AGE pathogen distribution in hospitalized US children in the post–RV vaccine era. Methods From December 2011 to June 2016, the New Vaccine Surveillance Network (NVSN) conducted prospective, active, population-based surveillance in hospitalized children with AGE. We tested stools from 2 NVSN sites (Kansas City, Houston) with Luminex x-TAG Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panels (Luminex GPP) and analyzed selected signs and symptoms. Results For 660 pediatric AGE inpatients and 624 age-matched healthy controls (HCs), overall organism detection was 51.2% and 20.6%, respectively (P < .001). Among AGE subjects, GPP polymerase chain reaction detected >1 virus in 39% and >1 bacterium in 14% of specimens. Detection frequencies for AGE subjects vs HCs were norovirus (NoV) 18.5% vs 6.6%, RV 16.1% vs 9.8%, adenovirus 7.7% vs 1.4%, Shigella 4.8% vs 1.0%, Salmonella 3.1% vs 0.1%, and Clostridioides difficile in ≥2-year-olds 4.4% vs 2.4%. More co-detections occurred among AGE patients (37/660, 5.6%) than HCs (14/624, 2.2%; P = .0024). Per logistic regression analysis, ill contacts increased risk for NoV, RV, and Shigella (P < .001). More vomiting episodes occurred with NoV and RV, and more diarrheal episodes with Shigella and Salmonella. Modified Vesikari scores were highest for Shigella and lowest for C. difficile. Conclusions NoV detection was most frequent; however, RV remained important in hospitalized AGE in the post–RV vaccine era. Continued active surveillance is important to document ongoing vaccine effects, pathogen emergence, and baseline disease burden for new vaccines.

Abstract:Homeodomain-containing proteins play a crucial role as transcriptional regulators in the process of cell differentiation. The homeodomain performs a dual function in this regard, acting as a DNA binding domain and participating in protein-protein interactions that enhance DNA binding specificity or regulatory activity. Here we describe a homeodomain class-specific interaction with the β subunit of the general transcription factor TFIIE. We show that the Antennapedia and Abdominal-B homeodomains bind to TFIIEβ, but the even-skipped homeodomain does not. Using a two-hybrid assay performed in cultured cells, we demonstrate that the homeodomain-TFIIEβ interaction occurs in vivo. The Abdominal-B homeodomain is shown to activate transcription in vitro, and this activation can be blocked with anti-TFIIEβ antibody without affecting basal transcription levels. Together with published data demonstrating an interaction between proteins containing even-skipped class homeodomains and the TATA-binding protein (Um, M., Li, C., and Manley, J. L. (1995) Mol. Cell. Biol. 15, 5007-5016; Zhang, H., Catron, K. M., and Abate-Shen, C. (1996) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A. 93, 1764-1769), these results suggest various homeodomain containing proteins interact with different general transcription factors, an observation that may have important implications for transcriptional regulation.
Determination and analysis of enteric viruses from children with acute diarrhea in Zhejiang province

Abstract:Objective To explore the common viral composition of acute diarrhea from Zhejiang province.Methods 811 stool specimens were collected from outpatient children(≤5 years) with acute diarrhea.They were tested by ELISA for group A rotavirus and by multiplex PCR for Group B/C rotavirus,Norovirus,Sapovirus,Adenovirus,and Astrovirus.For group A rotavirus-positive specimens,a RT-PCR was conducted to determine the G and P genotypes.Results In 811 cases,the overall proportions for rotavirus,norovirus,sapovirus,adenovirus,and astrovirus were 25.52% 、18.37% 、4.44% 、2.71% and 1.23%,respectively.Mixed infections were detected in 65(8.0%) of the 811 cases and rotavirus/norovirus dual infections took the largest percentage(56.92%).G3(37.93%),G1(32.75%) and P [8] were the most prevalent genotypes and G3/P[8](27.59%) was the predominant combination in 116 RV-positive samples.Conclusion The results indicated the prevalence of the common agents of viral diarrhea(including mono-infection and mixed infection) in Zhejiang province,which would provide valuable reference for clinical treatment and disease surveillance.

Abstract:We report a 5 year prospective study of episodes of rotavirus, subgenus F adenovirus, and astrovirus gastroenteritis diagnosed by electron or immune electron microscopy in a single regional virology laboratory. Of 1426 total infections, the numbers in each category were 1117 (78.3%), 254 (17.8%), and 20 (7.9%), respectively. Using restriction endonuclease analysis or immune electron microscopy, all but 20 of the subgenus F adenovirus strains were classified as type 40 (n = 50) or type 41 (n = 184). Rotavirus and astrovirus infections were more prevalent in winter than summer, whereas subgenus F (either type 40 and 41) adenoviruses showed no seasonal variation in prevalence. The ratio of type 40 to all typable subgenus F adenoviruses declined between 1984 and 1986 and then increased again. Adenoviruses were relatively more important as causes of viral gastroenteritis in infants aged less than 6 months than in toddlers aged 12 months or more, but even in young infants more rotavirus than adenovirus infections were diagnosed. Our data confirmed the epidemiological differences between rotavirus, subgenus F adenovirus and rotavirus gastroenteritis and documented the shared epidemiological characteristics of type 40 or 41 adenovirus infections.

Abstract:Objective: To understand the epidemiological characteristics and clinical features of rotavirus-, norovirus-, adenovirus-and astrovirus-associ ated acute gastroenteritis in children under 5 years old in Beijing from Octorber, 2015 to March, 2017. Methods: In the intestinal clinic of 6 hospitals in 6 districts of Beijing, information and stool samples of the first 30 patients with acute gastroenteritis who are under the age of 5 years are collected monthly.Rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus and astrovirus are identified by PCR.Descriptive epidemiological method was used to describe the epidemiological characteristics of diarrhea caused by rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus and astrovirus in Beijing. One-way analysis of variance was used to analyze the Vesikari clinical severity score of of acute gastroenteritis caused by each virus. Unconditional logistic regression analysis was used to analysis the associated factors of clinical features. Results: Of the 2 052 samples, 709 (34.6%) were non-mixed infections: the positive rate of rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus and astrovirus were 20.0%, 7.5%, 4.2% and 2.9%, respectively. A total of 135 cases (6.6%) were mixed infection. The mean and standard deviation of Vesikari clinical severity score was 8.0±3.1 for rotavirus associated acute gastroenteritis, which was significantly higher than norovirus (6.4±2.4, P<0.001), adenovirus (6.2±2.1, P<0.001) and astrovirus (6.1±2.0, P<0.001). The comparison of clinical features showed that compared with astrovirus, the children under 5 years old infected with rotavirus were more likely to have a diarrhea ≥5 days (OR=3.334), have vomiting ≥3 times within one day (OR=8.788), have vomiting≥1 day (OR=3.963), have a Vesikari clinical severity score ≥11 severe cases (OR=13.194). Norovirus infected cases were prone to have vomiting≥3 times in 1 day (OR=5.710).Adenovirus infected cases were prone to have a diarrhea≥5 days (OR=2.616). When using rotavirus as a reference, children under 5 years of age were less likely to develop fever≥38.4 ℃ after infection with norovirus (OR=0.397) or adenovirus (OR=0.280). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the characteristics of acute gastroenteritis caused by different viruses are different. The clinical symptoms caused by rotavirus are more serious. Children under 24 months of age are at high risk of rotavirus infection. Effective preventive measures such as vaccination should be taken as soon as possible.
