Abstract:As digital technology becomes increasingly embedded in daily life, its impact on social interactions has become a critical area of study, particularly concerning cyberbullying. This meta-analysis investigates the dual role of technology in cyberbullying both as a catalyst that can exacerbate the issue and as a potential solution. Cyberbullying, characterized by the use of digital platforms to harass, threaten, or humiliate individuals, poses significant challenges to mental and social wellbeing. This research synthesizes empirical findings from diverse studies to evaluate how innovative technological interventions, such as content monitoring algorithms, anonymous reporting systems, and educational initiatives integrated within digital platforms, contribute to reducing the prevalence of cyberbullying. The study focuses on the effectiveness of these interventions in various settings, highlighting the need for adaptive strategies that respond to the dynamic digital landscape. By offering a comprehensive overview of the current state of cyberbullying and the efficacy of technology based solutions, this analysis provides valuable insights for stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and technology developers, aiming to enhance digital wellbeing and create safer online environments. Digital Dilemma of Cyberbullying Victimization among High School Students: Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Associations with Stress and Mental Well-Being

Abstract:Cyberbullying has emerged as a pervasive problem among high school students, with potentially severe consequences for their mental well-being. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and associations of cyberbullying with stress and mental well-being among high school students in Zagazig, Egypt. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 562 high school students using a random sampling technique. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire that included the Cyberbullying Scale, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, multiple regression, mediation, and logistic regression analyses were employed for data analysis. The prevalence of cyberbullying victimization was 38.3%, with 20.6% exposed to two or three cyberbullying behaviors and 4.1% exposed to four or more. Female students, those under 18 years old, those with lower educational achievement, and those with higher daily internet use were more likely to experience cyberbullying. Cyberbullied students reported significantly higher levels of perceived stress and poorer mental well-being compared to non-cyberbullied students. Perceived stress likely mediated the relationship between cyberbullying victimization and general psychological health. Cyberbullying is a significant problem among high school students in Zagazig, Egypt, with detrimental effects on their stress levels and mental well-being. Targeted interventions and prevention strategies are needed to address cyberbullying and promote the well-being of adolescents in the digital age.

Abstract:The dramatic increase in social media use has challenged traditional social structures and shifted a great deal of interpersonal communication from the physical world to cyberspace. Much of this social media communication has been positive: Anyone around the world who has access to the Internet has the potential to communicate with and attract a massive global audience. Unfortunately, such ubiquitous communication can be also used for negative purposes such as cyberbullying, which is the focus of this paper. Previous research on cyberbullying, consisting of 135 articles, has improved the understanding of why individuals-mostly adolescents-engage in cyberbullying. However, our study addresses two key gaps in this literature: (1) how the information technology (IT) artifact fosters/inhibits cyberbullying and (2) why people are socialized to engage in cyberbullying. To address these gaps, we propose the social media cyberbullying model (SMCBM), which modifies Akers' [Akers RL (2011) Social Learning and Social Structure: A General Theory of Crime and Deviance, 2nd ed. (Transaction Publishers, New Brunswick, NJ)] social structure and social learning model. Because Akers developed his model for crimes in the physical world, we add a rich conceptualization of anonymity composed of five subconstructs as a key social media structural variable in the SMCBM to account for the IT artifact. We tested the SMCBM with 1,003 adults who have engaged in cyberbullying. The empirical findings support the SMCBM. Heavy social media use combined with anonymity facilitates the social learning process of cyberbullying in social media in a way that fosters cyberbullying. Our results indicate new directions for cyberbullying research and implications for anticyberbullying practices.
Digital Disconnection: A Qualitative Study of Youth and Young Adult Perspectives on Cyberbullying and the Adoption of Auto-Detection or Software Tools

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study was to understand the needs of youth and young adults, current gaps around safeguarding social media, and factors affecting adoption of data-driven auto-detection or software tools. Methods This qualitative study is the first step of a larger initiative that aims to use participatory action research and co-design principles to develop a digital tool that targets cyberbullying. Youth and young adults aged 16–21 years were recruited to participate in semistructured focus groups between March 2020 and November 2021. Thematic analysis was used to develop themes, with a member-checking process to validate the findings. Results Six focus groups were completed with 39 participants and five themes were generated from the analysis. Participants described the mental health impacts of cyberbullying on young people, the stigma associated with it, and the need for more mental health resources. They felt that additional efforts are needed to improve the school environment, school-based interventions, and training protocols to ensure that youth feel safe reporting cyberbullying. Most participants were open to using a digital solution but raised concerns around the trustworthiness of artificial intelligence and wanted it to be co-designed with young people, integrated across platforms, informed by data-driven decisions, and transparent with users. Discussion Youth and young adults are accepting of a low-risk digital cyberbullying solution as current interventions are not meeting their needs.

Abstract:<span>With the increased utilization of the internet and social media platforms, it is not surprising that youth are using these tools to inflict harm upon each other. Previous studies have outlined the negative impacts of cyberbullying, yet few research studies have been conducted in Arab communities examining its different forms and characteristics. Reporting incidents of cyberbullying is also a big problem, considering the social and cultural constraints of these societies. The purpose of this paper is to explore the pervasiveness of cyberbullying among university students in an Arab community, its nature and venues, and their attitudes towards reporting cyberbullying in contrast to remaining silent. Data were collected from 200 students in the UAE. 91% of the study sample confirmed the existence of acts of cyberbullying on social media with Instagram (55.5%) and Facebook (38%) in the lead. Calls for smartphone applications, stricter legal actions and proactive measures are discussed.</span>

Effects of Information Overload, Communication Overload, and Inequality on Digital Distrust: A Cyber-Violence Behavior Mechanism

Abstract:In recent years, there has been an escalation in cases of cyber violence, which has had a chilling effect on users' behavior toward social media sites. This article explores the causes behind cyber violence and provides empirical data for developing means for effective prevention. Using elements of the stimulus–organism–response theory, we constructed a model of cyber-violence behavior. A closed-ended questionnaire was administered to collect data through an online survey, which results in 531 valid responses. A proposed model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling using SmartPLS 3.0, v (3.2.8). Research findings show that information inequality is a strong external stimulus with a significant positive impact on digital distrust and negative emotion. However, the effects of information overload on digital distrust and the adverse effects of communication overload on negative emotions should not be ignored. Both digital distrust and negative emotions have significant positive impacts on cyber violence and cumulatively represent 11.5% changes in cyber violence. Furthermore, information overload, communication overload, information inequality, and digital distrust show a 27.1% change in negative emotions. This study also presents evidence for competitive mediation of digital distrust by information overload, information inequality, and cyber violence. The results of this study have implications for individual practitioners and scholars, for organizations, and at the governmental level regarding cyber-violence behavior. To test our hypotheses, we have constructed an empirical, multidimensional model, including the role of specific mediators in creating relationships.

Abstract:The current global pandemic occasioned by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been attributed, partially, to the growing range of cyber vises within the cyber ecosystem. One area of such impact is the increasing tendencies of cyber-bullying among students. Cyberbullying -- the act of subjugating others using a cyber platform -- is a growing concern among educators, especially in High-S chools. Whilst studies have been carried out towards understanding this menace, the approach towards id entifying indicators of cyberbullying is largely missing in the literature. To address this research gap, this study proposed a cyberbullying framework based on the identification of some observable behavioral indicators. Using a self-administered measurement instrument from 30-respondents, the study observed the probability of a cyberbully construct, as a potential measure of the presence of cyberbullying; a probability that has been largely ignored in extant literature. This observation presents a veritable tool for the development of an active and integrated learning platform void of abuse among students. Furthermore, within the cyber education ecosystem, a cyberbullying construct would provide a mechanism for the development of an appropriate online learning platform, which would be useful to the information system and cyber education research communities.

Abstract:Although the Internet has transformed the way our world operates, it has also served as a venue for cyberbullying, a serious form of misbehavior among youth. With many of today's youth experiencing acts of cyberbullying, a growing body of literature has begun to document the prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of this behavior, but the literature is highly fragmented and lacks theoretical focus. Therefore, our purpose in the present article is to provide a critical review of the existing cyberbullying research. The general aggression model is proposed as a useful theoretical framework from which to understand this phenomenon. Additionally, results from a meta-analytic review are presented to highlight the size of the relationships between cyberbullying and traditional bullying, as well as relationships between cyberbullying and other meaningful behavioral and psychological variables. Mixed effects meta-analysis results indicate that among the strongest associations with cyberbullying perpetration were normative beliefs about aggression and moral disengagement, and the strongest associations with cyberbullying victimization were stress and suicidal ideation. Several methodological and sample characteristics served as moderators of these relationships. Limitations of the meta-analysis include issues dealing with causality or directionality of these associations as well as generalizability for those meta-analytic estimates that are based on smaller sets of studies (k < 5). Finally, the present results uncover important areas for future research. We provide a relevant agenda, including the need for understanding the incremental impact of cyberbullying (over and above traditional bullying) on key behavioral and psychological outcomes.

Digital Technology Use and Cyberbullying Among Primary School Children: Digital Literacy and Parental Mediation as Moderators

Abstract:Cyberbullying has become a critical issue in many parts of the world. Children affected by bullying in cyberspace may also experience various other problems in their daily lives, such as emotional and behavioral issues. Despite the well-documented positive correlation between digital technology use and cyberbullying experiences in adolescents, a paucity of research has explored the association between digital technology use and cyberbullying, and the extent to which digital literacy (DL) and parental mediation moderate these relationships among primary school-aged children. This study addressed these research gaps. A total of 736 children (third grade, female = 52 percent) in Hong Kong, selected through stratified random sampling, reported on their digital technology use, parental mediation of technology use (i.e., active mediation and restriction), and cyberbullying experiences. A performance-based assessment measured children's DL. Results showed a positive association between children's digital technology use (both for leisure activities and for schoolwork) and cyberbullying experiences (both as perpetrator and victim). These positive associations were more pronounced among children with low levels of DL (only victims) as well as among children with highly restrictive parents (both perpetrators and victims). Implications for digital citizenship education and parental intervention are discussed.

Abstract:Cyberbullying victimization and perpetration continues to be a serious public health, criminal justice, victimology, and educational problem in middle schools in the United States. Adolescents are at a higher risk of experiencing cyberbullying as a victim and/or as a bully given the frequency of their use of the Internet via social networking sites such as Facebook and mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets. To address this important problem, the purpose of this investigation was to examine cyberbullying victimization through communication technology as a predictor of cyberbullying perpetration, body image, healthy eating and dieting behaviors, and life satisfaction of sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade-level middle school students. The World Health Organization recruited participants by using a Health Behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC) survey. In this in-class questionnaire, 6,944 middle school students were asked about their cyberbullying experiences as a victim and as a bully via Internet, email, and mobile communication technologies to obtain their evaluations of their body image, eating and dieting habits, and perceptions of life satisfaction. After controlling for demographic factors such as sex, age, and class level, this study found that cyberbullying victimization was a predictor of cyberbullying perpetration, body image dissatisfaction, dieting behaviors, and life satisfaction. However, this study did not find a correlation between cyberbullying victimization and students’ healthy eating behaviors. This study also discussed each of the findings in the context of previous research findings. In addition, the study provides the strengths, limitations, and future directions for the future examination of cyberbullying victimization in middle schools.

Abstract:Background Social media tends to cause poorer physical and mental health. Students are more addicted to using media in their daily lives and are more likely to stress. Objective: This study's primary objective is to explore the current level of knowledge of cyber bullying and provide awareness programs to bolt their reflective minds with possible coping strategies to prevent consecutive reduction behaviours among students of Aysha Al- Riyamia school in Bahla. Methods: One hundred eighty participants were recruited from Aysha Al- Riyamia school in Bahla in grades 10 through 12 using a convenient sampling technique. The questionnaire was constructed with knowledge and coping skills about cyber bullying and adopted to collect data from the participants before and after an educational awareness program. Results: The results showed that awareness programs had significantly enhanced students' knowledge and coping strategies in cyber bullying. Furthermore, the evidence of the study confirmed that cyber bullying awareness programs had a positive influence on knowledge among school students; the mean difference between pre-test and post-test was 2.81 at p<0.05. Conclusion: Given the widespread use of social media in everyday life, these findings highlight the need for more incredible research into the education program to minimize the risks involved in cyber bullying.

Abstract:New Media &Society, Ahead of Print. While cyberbullying has been recognized as a critically important social problem, a void remains regarding the role of digital media. To address this gap, we propose the social-ecological model of cyberbullying, an expanded model that builds on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory (EST) and expands Swearer and Espelage's social-ecological model of bullying. A strength of the proposed model is the addition of the digital context as a new ecology in the everyday lives of youth, which is closely interconnected with all the other systems. Furthermore, the model incorporates digital-specific factors within each ecological system of the original EST model. This provides scholars with a holistic model that they can test, finetune, and expand. A practical implication of the model is that it can guide the creation and implementation of effective and age-appropriate cyberbullying prevention and intervention approaches because it considers in the chronosystem life phases, life transitions, historical events, and crises.

Abstract:Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between Social Media on Students Interpersonal Communication and Cyberbullying on Students Interpersonal Communication in Senior High School Method: The method used in this study is quantitative to test the hypothesis taken from the research variables in numbers and then the data is analyzed using statistical procedures. Identification of Research Variables In order to test the research hypothesis, it is necessary to first state the identification of the research variables. The variables in this study are as follows: 1. Dependent variable: Interpersonal Communication 2. Independent variable: Influence of social media, cyberbullying. This study explains the causal relationship between variables through hypothesis testing. The population in this study were 560 parents of Senior High School Student. Data collection techniques in research were carried out by distributing questionnaires containing statements related to the variables studied. The measurement scale used for this research is a 7-point Likert scale. Data analysis uses the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. Result: Based on the results of the analysis, the P value <0.050 was obtained, so it was concluded that social media has a positive and significant relationship to Students interpersonal communication. Social media has an impact on interpersonal communication. Based on the results of the analysis, the P value <0.050 was obtained, so it was concluded that cyberbullying had a positive and significant relationship to Students interpersonal communication. Conclusion: Social media has a positive and significant relationship to Students Interpersonal Communication and cyberbullying has a positive and significant relationship to Students Interpersonal Communication. Based on the results of research and data analysis conducted by researchers regarding the process of interpersonal communication between victims and their friends in building a tendency to change cyberbullying towards negative emotions positive, it can be concluded that friends have influence in building tendencies to have positive emotional concepts. Research Implication: Social media presence requires further attention. Not to stop its development, but to maximize its use. It is important to increase the self-awareness of each user, considering that what is uploaded can affect self-image, and what is uploaded can affect the relationships that exist with other parties. Cyberbullying can occur in groups who know each other and groups of people who do not know each other. Cyberbullying can cause perpetrators to use false identities which cause perpetrators to feel free from existing social and normative rules. Cyberbullying can occur on social media such as Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter Originality/Value: The novelty of this research is the creation of a new model of the relationship Social Mediaon Senior High Schools Student Interpersonal Communication and CyberBullying on Senior High Schools Student Interpersonal Communication which has not been found in previous research.

Abstract:This study investigates the psychosocial impact of cyberbullying on social media among students in Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Cameroon. The study adopted a quantitative research methodology in collecting data from 99 students across the selected African countries using a well-designed electronic questionnaire (e-questionnaire). The study found that cyberbullying on social media has psychosocial implications for the student. Furthermore, the study revealed ways and strategies to mitigate the spread and act of cyberbullying of students on social media platforms. Conclusively, the study unpacked the psychosocial impacts of cyberbullying on students. Therefore, the research, without a doubt, contributed to an in-depth understanding of various aspects of the psychosocial impact of cyberbullying on social media on students and as well as a possible profound solution to mitigating cyberbullying.
Implications and Preventions of Cyberbullying and Social Exclusion in Social Media: Systematic Review

Abstract:Background The growth of social networking has created a paradigm in which many forms of personal communication are being replaced by internet communication technologies, such as social media. This has led to social issues, such as cyberbullying. In response, researchers are investigating cyberbullying to determine its implications in various life sectors. Objective This manuscript reviews the methods, results, and limitations of the current cyberbullying research and discusses the physical and mental repercussions of cyberbullying and social exclusion as well as methods of predicting and counteracting these events. On the basis of the findings, we discuss future research directions. Methods Using ScienceDirect, ACM Digital Library, and PubMed, 34 research articles were used in this review. A review was conducted using the selected articles with the goal of understanding the current landscape of cyberbullying research. Results Studies have analyzed correlations between depressive and suicidal ideations in subjects as well as relationships in the social, educational, and financial status of the perpetrators. Studies have explored detection methods for monitoring cyberbullying. Automated detection has yet to become effective and accurate; however, several factors, such as personal background and physical appearance, have been identified to correlate with the likelihood that a person becomes a survivor or perpetrator of web-based cybervictimization. Social support is currently common in recovery efforts but may require diversification for specific applications in web-based incidents. Conclusions Relations between social status, age, gender, and behaviors have been discovered that offer new insights into the origins and likeliness of cyberbullying events. Rehabilitation from such events is possible; however, automatic detection is not yet a viable solution for prevention of cyberbullying incidents. Effects such as social exclusion and suicidal ideations are closely tied to incidents of cyberbullying and require further study across various social and demographical populations. New studies should be conducted to explore the experiences of survivors and perpetrators and identify causal links. The breadth of research includes demographics from China, Canada, Taiwan, Iran, the United States, and Namibia. Wider ranges of national populations should be considered in future studies for accurate assessments, given global internet communication technology activity. The studies emphasize the need for formal classification terminology. With formal classification, researchers will have a more definite scope, allowing specific research on a single definable topic rather than on general bullying events and symptoms. Of all the studies, 2 used a longitudinal design for their research methodology. The low number of longitudinal studies leaves gaps between causation and correlation, and further research is required to understand the effects of cyberbullying. Research addressing ongoing victimization is required for the various forms of cyberbullying; social support offers the most effective current standard for prevention.

Abstract:The main aim of this study is a quantitative analysis to determine the level of content and nature of social networks and relationships with individuals, as well as social networks and relationships with cyber violence. For this purpose, the use of social learning theory to analyze cyber violence by individuals. Based on quantitative method, questionnaire was used for data collection. The research community was Soran University and the sample size was (380) students who were different in terms of gender and departments. The data analysis tool was analyzed through SPSS. The results show that the content and nature of social networks is related to cyber violence and there is statistical evidence, although the content and nature of social networks is not related to cyber violence according to gender and departments variables.

Abstract:Cyberbullying is a problem in educational settings, and much of the research has focused on the development of effective prevention and response initiatives. Because of the vulnerability of children, cyberbullying research and intervention programs have largely targeted elementary students. A growing body of research has shown that cyberbullying is not limited to elementary settings, but the problem is also prevalent in postsecondary institutions, with potentially severe negative consequences. Yet, there is a gap in research about interventions tailored to this life stage. To address this gap, we conducted virtual semistructured interviews through Zoom with 21 university students on the availability and the effectiveness of prevention and response initiatives on campus, existing barriers, and potential solutions. We found that university students were concerned about a lack of available initiatives, and they identified several barriers, including a lack of cyberbullying conversations occurring on campus, limited knowledge about the impacts of cyberbullying on university students, and stigmatization associated with cybervictimization, which made it difficult for students to openly talk about their experiences. To remedy these barriers, university students offered several solutions: increasing education for postsecondary students, faculty, staff, and support teams; conducting studies examining cyberbullying from the unique life stage perspective of young adulthood and employing an ecological point of view; and finally, creating age-appropriate cyberbullying resources, such as flyers, webpages, and anonymous reporting systems. A central theme across these solutions was the need for conversations around cyberbullying experiences at the postsecondary level, as students perceived that it was treated as a taboo topic.

Abstract:Cyberbullying among teenagers is increasingly common and is disturbing the world of education. Cyberbullying has a severe negative impact on the psychological, emotional and social fields, which leads to fear, anxiety and suicide. This research aims to produce a product in the form of a digital cognitive behaviour modification module to reduce cyberbullying behaviour, which has been tested as valid and can be used by guidance and counselling teachers and counsellors. This research uses a type of research and development using the ADDIE procedural model. The module material was obtained from an analysis of students' cyberbullying behaviour needs; then, a module feasibility test was carried out by 2 material experts and 2 media experts. Usability test by 3 guidance and counselling teachers. The methods used to collect data are observation, interviews and questionnaires. The instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire. The techniques used to analyze the data are descriptive analysis and non-parametric analysis. The results of this research are that the digital cognitive behaviour modification module to reduce cyberbullying behaviour is in the very appropriate category from experts and has received results. The practicality test results of the digital module are in a very good class. It was concluded that the digital module prepared was suitable for implementation or use by guidance and counselling teachers and counsellors. The implication of this research is that the digital module developed helps counselors and guidance and counseling teachers in providing services to their clients.

Abstract:This is an anthropological research which studies cyber harassment on social media among the young people of University of Dhaka. Cyber harassment is an umbrella term and consists several harassing behaviors. There is no concrete definition of it. In general, it is defined as intentional and repeated behavior that is directed to someone through the digital platforms in order to disturb, harm or scare them. Social media is a digital communication platform which is used most by almost all age group around the world. In our country, young people are the main user of social media platforms. So, this study is very relevant in the context of our country to understand cyber harassment. Anthropological methods and its core theoretical tenets which encourage in-depth study of any issue have provided a good framework to this research. This study uses both qualitative and quantitative methods including ten in-depth interviews and a questionnaire based online survey with fifty informants. The present study observes young user’s perception regarding cyber harassment, the nature of cyber harassment from user’s personal experience in social media. Several factors like technical skills, knowledge regarding social media, gender, capital, social network etc. play a great role in shaping their perception. This study also illuminates young people’s understanding of cyber harassment, reasons behind their mild or severe dichotomy of harassment and activities that are considered as cyber harassment by them. This study also explores the nature and extent of cyber harassment from young people’s personal experience on social media. It also observes user’s awareness on personal security through the safety measures they follow to stay safe and the strategies they take after facing cyber harassment on social media. The whole study has been analyzed using Arjun Appadurai’s Technoscapes theory, Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of capital and symbolic violence. This study concludes with a summary of the whole research, some additional opinion of the participants about this research and the role of anthropologists to work in this issue.

Abstract:Cyberbullying is bullying using digital technology. This can happen on social media, chat platforms, gaming platforms, and mobile phones. Meanwhile, according to Think Before Text, cyberbullying is aggressive and purposeful behavior carried out by a group or individual, using electronic media, repeatedly from time to time, against someone who is deemed not to easily resist this action. So, there is a difference in power between the perpetrator and the victim. The difference in strength in this case refers to a perception of physical and mental capacity. The nature of the research used is normative legal research and the data collection method used in this research is secondary data obtained through library research, namely by conducting research on various literature such as books, laws, with the aim of to look for concepts, or understandings related to the problem of Cyber Bullying Behavior Due to Social Media Which Affects Teenagers. The physical impact of cyberbullying is that teenagers experience headaches, stomach aches, sleep disorders, fatigue, back pain, loss of appetite and digestive problems. Psychologically and emotionally, teenagers feel fear, feelings of terror, anxiety, suffering, sadness, stress and symptoms of depression. School is related to teenagers being less motivated to go to school and a decrease in concentration levels or academic grades. Psychosocially, adolescents have feelings of isolation and loneliness, exclusion and even social rejection. That a personality who is dominant and enjoys violence tends to be temperamental, impulsive, and easily frustrated and often behaves aggressively in adults. Personality characteristics have a fairly high role in a person's tendency to become a perpetrator of cyberbullying. A person with high self-esteem will show himself to have power over others. This is what makes cyberbullying perpetrators show that they are someone who is powerful by bullying weak people.
