Abstract:People's pro-environmental behavior (PEB) is commonly recognized as a result of individual rationality or moral considerations. However, the compative roles of rationality and morality in fostering such behavior in the tourism/leisure context remains to be investigated. This paper uses the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the norm-activation model (NAM) as representatives of rational and moral notions, and examines the relative strengths of the models in explaining visitors' pro-environmental intentions in nature-based destinations. An empirical study was conducted in three natural parks in Hangzhou, China. Local visitors (N = 323) and tourists (N = 231) participated in the survey. Structural equation modeling was adopted. It is found that although both the rational and the moral models could explain the participants' pro-environmental intentions, yet the NAM model was superior, especially in interpreting nonlocal tourist pro-environmental intentions. Recommendations are provided for a more holistic understanding and effective promotion of PEB in nature-based destinations.
[Comparison of genotype and intellectual phenotype in untreated phenylketonuric children].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE The main feature of phenylketonuria(PKU) is mental retardation. Although classical PKU is defined as that the hepatic phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) activity ranges 0-1% of normal enzyme, the untreated PKU patients show a wide range of intellectual phenotype. This study sought to find the molecular basis of such variation of intellectual phenotype among PKU. METHODS 45 classical PKU patients included in the research were screened for detecting six mutant alleles which were rather common among Chinese PKU patients, i.e. R243Q, R413P, Y204C, Y356X, W326X and R111X. PCR-ASO and PCR-SSCP techniques were used. The expression of those mutant PAH genes was analysed by methods of site-directed mutagencies. 27 PKU patients whose two mutant alleles were both defined were involved in this study. The IQ of these patients were tested by DDST system. RESULTS Among 27 patients, 4/27 (15%) were mild retardation, 10/27(37%) were moderate, the severe mental retardation accounted for 12/27(44%). The relationship between genotype and intellectual phenotype in this group was examined. It was found that the intellectual phenotype of 8 patients were compatible with genotype but not well matched in 19 cases. The enzyme activity of Y204C expressed in vitro was 100%, but all 3 patients with Y204C/Y204C were severely mental retarded. Enzyme activities of R413P and Y356X were <3% and 0 respectively in expression analysis, but the patients in this group had mild or moderate mental retardation. CONCLUSION Intellectual phenotype was not well matched with the genotype in classical PKU patients, so that genotype can not be used to predicte the intellectual phenotype in PKU patients.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to explore the impact of tourists’ perceptions of two rural destination attractiveness dimensions on tourists’ environmentally responsible behavioral intentions (ERBI). Further, the mediating effects of tourists’ green self-identity on the relationship between the perception of rural destination attractiveness and ERBI are investigated. Design/methodology/approach This study collected survey data from 188 tourists who had visiting experiences in rural attractions located in the Guangdong Province of China. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings The results found that rural destination specialty fresh food attractiveness perceived by tourists was positively associated with their ERBI. Moreover, tourists’ green self-identity positively mediated the perception of rural destination attractiveness and ERBI. Originality/value This study explains how the tourists’ perceptions of two rural destination attractiveness dimensions influence their ERBI. By exploring the mediating role of tourists’ green self-identity, this study also emphasizes the transforming mechanism from tourists’ perceived experience to their ERBI. The study provides insights into nature-based tourism destination management and sustainability practices.

Abstract:Rural tourism has been a hot spot in tourism studies in recent years. This research uses Attitude Theory to investigate the influence mechanism of tourists' perceived value and place identity on their behavioral intention in rural tourism in Zhejiang Province, China. The study adopts the PLS-SEM method to process the data. The results indicate that tourists' behavioral intention is positively influenced by their perceived value and place identity. Additionally, perceived value has a positive impact on tourists' place identity, and place identity plays a positive intermediary role between perceived value and behavioral intention. Meanwhile, cultural value is perceived as having the greatest influence on place identity and behavioral intention. Therefore, rural tourist destinations should focus on cultural value and the tourists' sense of place to promote sustainable rural tourism development.

Abstract:<span>Based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework, this research sought to examine tourists' environmental concern and destination identification as mediating variables between residents' environmentally responsible behaviour and tourists' green consumption in Chinese rural tourism. A total of 275 participants were recruited, and structural equation modelling was conducted to test hypotheses. Findings indicate residents' environmentally responsible behaviour has a positive relationship with tourists' green consumption; environmental concern and destination identification mediated this relationship. Moreover, tourists' destination identification was found to impact their environmental concerns significantly. The present study contributes to promoting the sustainable development of rural tourism.</span>

[Stimulation of pituitary-adrenocortical system by cepharanthine].

Abstract:We observed that cepharanthine might exert its anti-allergic action by stimulating the secretion of corticosterone. The present experiments were carried out to investigate stimulation of the pituitary-adrenocortical system by cepharanthine. Administration of cepharanthine to rats produced increases in plasma and adrenal corticosterone levels. Administration of cepharanthine to propranolol pretreated rats also produced increases in plasma and adrenal corticosterone levels and plasma ACTH level. The elevation of corticosterone level induced by cepharanthine was considered to be the specific effect of cepharanthine. Cepharanthine did not increase plasma corticosterone level in rats in the state of dexamethasone suppression of the pituitary-adrenocortical system, in which the level was lowered. Administration of cepharanthine to Bordetella pertussis vaccine induced beta-adrenergic blocked rats also produced increases in plasma and adrenal corticosterone levels. The production and release of corticosterone from an adrenal cell suspension were not influenced by cepharanthine in vitro. These results suggest that cepharanthine stimulates the pituitary-adrenotropic function.

Abstract:Ecotourism, which promotes environmental conservation and brings social and economic benefits through conscious and harmonious interactions between humans and nature, has become a principal tool for achieving these objectives. Sustainable tourism can only be supported with tourists realizing the elements of attraction toward ecotourism. This study analyzes the roots of ecotourism behavior using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), specifically determining the roles of ecotourism tendency, attitude, human–land coordination stress, and sense of self-control in influencing tourists' intention and behavior toward ecotourism. This study used a cross-sectional design, requiring 847 participants to complete a standardized questionnaire assessing their behavior toward ecotourism, attitudes, and perceptions. Reliability testing, descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and factor analysis were used to analyze the datasets to discover major factors relating to ecotourism intention behavior. A consequent outcome is that ecotourism attitude and self-determination are the significant drivers of ecotourism desire, while behavioral norms only impact ecotourism attitude and selflessness. The study concluded that the subjective perception of tourists and their behavior control ability are the ones that affect their ecotourism behavior more than other factors. The findings suggest that enhancing tourists' ecotourism attitude, sense of self-control, and awareness of human–place coordination can significantly promote ecotourism behaviors. These results highlight the importance of comprehensive regional ecotourism analysis, robust environmental education, and promoting normative behaviors to foster sustainable tourism practices. To validate these findings, further research should focus on longitudinal studies and clinical trials to standardize integrated ecotourism strategies and explore the underlying mechanisms influencing ecotourism behavior.

Abstract:Although the significance of destination image is acknowledged, its effect on tourist reactions, especially energy-saving behavior, remains unknown. This research aimed to explore tourist energy-saving behavior (TESB) and loyalty (TL) in a rural land context by using the cognition-affect-behavior (CAB) model. The findings indicated: (1) destination image positively and directly influenced TESB and TL; (2) relationship quality variables, i.e., tourist satisfaction and destination trust, positively and separately mediated the associations of destination image with TESB and TL; and (3) a cross-validation approach of rural and urban cases documented support for the research findings. This study extends the destination image literature by introducing the CAB model and the cross-validation approach to examine energy-saving behavior and loyalty. It offers guidance and a reference for tourism destination practitioners to promote energy-saving behavior and loyalty through the enhancement of destination image and relationship quality.

Abstract:The importance of environmentally sustainable behavioral intentions (ESBI) in tourism is widely acknowledged, yet its role in geotourism is uncertain. Based on norm activation theory, behavioral reasoning theory, and complexity theory, this study used structural equation modeling and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze data from 455 tourists at global geoparks in China. Results indicated that responsibility ascription, attitude, values, and place attachment influence ESBI. fsQCA identified four configuration combinations, confirming complexity theory principles. This paper addressed gaps in the literature and provided practical implications for geoparks.

Abstract:A visitor's experience quality is determined by the psychological outcome of their involvement in tourist activities. There are traits that are supplied by a site that are then introduced to the visitor's characteristics. Tourists' emotive responses and judgments of their desired social–psychological goals can be used to measure experience quality. Experience quality is often evaluated holistically or gestalt. People's motivation, contentment, and goals have long been studied in western tourism/recreation research as a method of forecasting their post-visit behaviors and behaviors. The Chinese Urban Forest setting has seen a relatively small number of research projects. Supported by the Structural Equation Model (SEM), this paper is aimed to probe into the post-visit behavioral mechanism of urban forest recreationists. The method involves constructing a conceptual model from the review of related literatures. Ten research hypotheses proposed based on literature review are estimated from the data collected in Nanjing, China. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is employed to verify the effect of recreational benefits on post-visit behavioral intentions and to examine the interrelationships among the factors (e.g., image, benefits, value, satisfaction and intentions). According to statistics, the four primary aspects in constructing a terminal image are availability, appearance, branding, and amenities, while the three components of recreational benefits are interpersonal, psychological rewards, practical and recreational benefits primarily depend on the tourists' experience. Meanwhile,the analysis shows that the image factor indirectly affects post-visit behavioral decision of urban forest recreationists, while recreational benefits, as a variable to measure perceived quality, and exerts together direct as well as indirect effects on behavioral intentions. For urban forest owners that cater to the rising number of Chinese outdoor recreationists, all of the above stated studies provide valuable information.

Abstract:As businesses and governments increasingly explore innovative strategies to promote pro-environmental behavior, autonomous vehicles (AVs) have emerged as a key initiative for fostering sustainable communities. However, the specific norms—personal, descriptive, and subjective—that influence behavioral intentions regarding AV adoption remain underexplored. This research addresses this gap by integrating the extended theory of planned behavior (TPB) with pro-environmental variables to examine both direct and indirect influences on behavioral intentions. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the proposed model was validated with data from 516 domestic Chinese tourists. The findings highlight that subjective norms and trust significantly shape positive intentions toward adopting autonomous vehicles. Furthermore, environmental knowledge and concerns exert a significant indirect impact on these intentions, underscoring the complex interplay of factors that drive pro-environmental behavior. These results provide valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to enhance the acceptance of AVs in China and offer a foundation for future research on the role of norms in technology adoption.

Abstract:Tourists' pro-environmental behavior is one of the key factors for the sustainable development of natural scenic spots. Although this behavior depends on the surroundings and context, the existing literature lacks the perspective of specific scenarios, especially that of embodied emotions. This research integrated the theory of planned behavior and embodied theory to construct an integrative model of pro-environmental behavior that combined tourists' "rational planning" and "embodied emotion" and conducted an empirical study. The results show that in natural scenic spots, "rational planning" and "embodied emotion" affect tourists' pro-environmental behavior simultaneously on dual paths, and factors such as behavioral attitude, perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, engagement with nature, and connectedness to nature have different effects on high- and low-effort pro-environmental behavioral intentions. The findings of the study provide a new explanatory perspective for individual pro-environmental behaviors and a basis for effectively predicting and guiding tourists' pro-environmental behaviors in natural scenic spots.

Abstract:The current explosive growth of global consumption has caused many environmental problems, so guiding and regulating the public's green consumption intention and behavior is an important issue. By constructing the tourist green consumption model of urban and rural tourism destinations (TAM-TPB), this paper uses the PLS-SEM method to expound the realization path and mechanism of tourists' green consumption intention in urban and rural destinations. The TAM-TPB model provides better explanatory and predictive power for urban destinations than for rural destinations. In addition, the perceived usefulness plays a significant mediating effect, especially in urban destinations, and the green consumption attitude will not mediate or directly affect consumption intention. Finally, there is a certain gap in tourists' green consumption intention between urban and rural destinations, but it is limited to the paths from perceived ease of use to consumption attitude and from subjective norm to consumption intention.The paper studies the realization path and mechanism of tourists' green consumption intention in urban and rural tourism destinations.The paper first applies TAM to tourism green consumption field, constructing the model of TAM-TPB by PLS-SEM.The TAM-TPB model provides better explanatory and predictive power for urban destinations than for rural destinations.The green consumption attitude does not mediate or directly impact consumption intention.The findings will contribute to enrich the theoretical system of tourism green consumption research and provide practical references for the guidance of public green consumption behavior and the transformation of green consumption.

Abstract:Establishing a relationship model between environmental protection and resource utilization attitude and consumption intention is the key to promoting the sustainable development of forest tourism. From the standpoint of the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) framework, the purpose of this study is to explore the complex causal relationships between perceived benefits, attitudes toward environmental protection, resource utilization attitudes, and consumption intentions in the context of forest tourism. The research data have been collected using a questionnaire survey of 436 tourists at Siming Mountain in the suburbs of Ningbo city, China. Furthermore, it is analyzed by structural equation modeling. The results indicate a positive correlation between the perceived benefits and tourists' consumption intention that is mediated by the tourists' attitude toward resource utilization. Although the independent mediating effect of environmental protection attitude is not supported in this study, both attitudes have played a chain-mediating role between perceived benefit and consumption intention. This study contributes to the existing knowledge by measuring the impact of perceived benefits and environmental attitudes of forest tourists on consumption intentions.

Abstract:Based on relevant theories and empirical studies both at home and abroad,the paper,taking Jiuzhaigou as a case,constructs structural equation model(SEM) to explore potential relationship of tourists' environmental attitudes and behavior in natural heritage site.Through exploratory factor analysis,we find that tourists' environmental attitudes can be further categorized into four dimensions,namely,environmental sentiment,environmental responsibility,environmental knowledge and environmental morality.Furthermore,as indicated by the verified factor analysis and SEM,the study analyzes the relationship between tourists' environmental attitudes and environmental behavior intention.The result of model estimation shows that environmental sentiment and environmental knowledge have significant and positive impact on environmental behavior intention,environmental moral exerts little influence on environmental behavior intention,whereas environmental responsibility is not significant.Finally,some theoretical conclusions about model analysis are summarized.

Abstract:This study examines the influence of environmental values on consumer intentions to participate in agritourism through the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and value-belief-norm (VBN) theory. It proposes an integrative model by adding two variables, i.e., environmental benefits and the human-nature coordination concept, to the TPB. The study employs a questionnaire survey method and a sample of 640, which was statistically analysed through structural equation modeling (SEM). The results reveal that the "environmental values-attitudes-behavioural intentions" framework has scientific applicability in agritourism. Environmental values, measured through the variables environmental benefits and the human-nature coordination concept, are positively correlated directly or indirectly with agritourism consumption intentions, while attitudes and subjective norms serve as mediators. However, the mediating effect of perceived behavioural control is not statistically significant, indicating making efforts to influence attitudes and subjective norms is more useful for and effective in stimulating the public's intentions towards agritourism. As this study tests the hypotheses with empirical data, it provides practical implications for policy-makers and programme managers.

[Culture and identification of dendritic cells from the peripheral blood of patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma in vitro].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To culture dendritic cells (DC) from peripheral blood of patients with laryngeal carcinoma for therapeutic aid. METHODS Adherent peripheral blood mononuclear cells from peripheral blood were cultured with 15 ng/ml rhGM-CSF and 7 ng/ml rhIL-4 for one or two weeks. The purity of DC was detected by immunocytochemistry method. The mixed leukocyte reactions stimulated by DC loaded with laryngeal carcinoma antigen were tested by measuring 3H-TdR uptake. RESULTS A considerable number of suspended cells with spicular or dendritic appearance were observed after 1 week of culture, and their mitochondria were rich in cytoplasm. The positivity of DC was about 30%-60%. DC loaded with laryngeal antigen could induce proliferation of syngeneic T lymphocytes. CONCLUSION A large number of DC with high purity can be cultured from peripheral blood of patients with laryngeal carcinoma in vitro. It may be used in further experimental studies for clinical applications.

Abstract:Human behavior has varying effects on the environment because of its way and intensity. The majority of the current studies on tourists’ environmental behavior primarily considers the environmentally conservative behavior and the environmentally disturbing behavior, while the environmentally radical behavior (very strong sense of responsibility) has not been well-documented in the literature. This study aims to examine the dimensions of tourists’ environmental behavior and the mechanism of different types of tourists’ environmental behavior. Study results identify three dimensions of tourists’ environmental behavior, including: 1) environmentally radical behavior, 2) environmentally conservative behavior, and 3) environmentally disturbing behavior. This paper uses the theory of planned behavior to develop three different interpretation models of tourists’ environmental behavior, and test hypothesized relationships in the interpretation models by structural equation models. The results show that the hypothesized relationships between attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, environmental behavioral intention and environmental behavior in the tourists’ environmentally conservative behavior and environmentally disturbing behavior interpretation model were all supported. However, the hypothesis that subjective norms positively affect the environmental behavioral intention was not supported in the model of tourists’ environmentally radical behavior. Study results provide suggestions and guidance for tourism management agencies to implement scientific and effective tourism environmental protection measures and policies.

Immunohistologic staining of human intervertebral discs collected at the time of surgery (100 intervertebral discs from 80 patients) and 10 discs collected from 7 cadavers within 12 hours of death was performed using antimatrix metalloproteinase‐3 monoclonal antibody and antitissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‐1 monoclonal antibody. Objectives. To examine the relationship between matrix destruction and staining for matrix metalloproteinase‐3 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‐1 in intervertebral disc degeneration. Summary of Background Data. Matrix metalloproteinase‐3, which decomposes aggregating proteoglycans, has attracted research attention as a substance contributing to matrix destruction in the articular cartilage and intervertebral disc. However, except for a few in vitro studies, the relationship between matrix destruction of the intervertebral disc and matrix metalloproteinase‐3 has been little studied. Methods. Immunohistologic staining was performed to examine the relationship between matrix metalloproteinase‐3 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‐1 in the intervertebral disc, and the relationship of these two agents to magnetic resonance imaging, radiographic, and surgical findings. Results. Those cases testing positive for matrix metalloproteinase‐3 and negative for tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‐1 accounted for most of the surgical specimens. The matrix metalloproteinase‐3‐positive cell ratio was significantly correlated with the magnetic resonance imaging grade of intervertebral disc degeneration, and the matrix metalloproteinase‐3‐positive cell ratio observed in prolapsed lumbar intervertebral discs was significantly higher than that in nonprolapsed discs. In cervical intervertebral discs, the matrix metalloproteinase‐3‐positive cell ratio and staining of cartilaginous endplate were correlated with the size of osteophyte formation. Conclusions. These findings suggested that intervertebral disc degeneration is caused by disturbance in the equilibrium of matrix metalloproteinase‐3 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‐1, and that matrix metalloproteinase‐3 contributes to degeneration of the cartilaginous endplate.

Abstract:This study endeavors to delve into the intricacies of tourist contentment and proclivities in the realm of ecological health tourism activities within Bama, Guangxi. An exploration of the intricate structural relationships is undertaken, unraveling the quintet of variables encompassing tourists' engagement in Bama's ecological health tourism - namely, the effects of activities, the experiential facet of activities, the pecuniary dimension of activities, coupled with tourist satisfaction and behavioral intent. Employing the methodological framework of constructing a structural equation model, this study leverages IBM SPSS 23.0 software to execute correlation analyses across various variables, including demographic information statistics, reliability and validity metrics. Survey research orbits around the quintet of variables. The findings illuminate that the experiential tapestry woven by tourists partaking in ecological health tourism activities exerts a conspicuously affirmative influence on both their satisfaction and behavioral intentions. Conversely, the financial investment made by tourists in ecologi cal health tourism activities manifests a counteractive impact on their satisfaction and behavioral intentions. Evidently, heightened tourist activity experiences and diminished costs conduce to the facilitation of tourists' aspirations for individualistic tourism activities, thereby enhancing travel satisfaction and behavioral intent. Nevertheless, the potency of tourists' activity effe cts on tourist satisfaction remains suboptimal. Consequently, it is proffered that the propagation of health care paradigms be fortified, coupled with the augmentation of activity experience design. Further, the optimization of cost structures and the enhancement of resource utilization efficiency are recommended, alongside ameliorating activity effects and steering behavioral intent. This comprehensive approach is anticipated to immerse tourists more profoundly into the local ethos of longevity culture, thereby fostering the robust and sustainable evolution of longevity tourism in Bama.
