Abstract:PURPOSE: The physical fitness on adolescents’ health–related quality of life (HRQOL) is an important health issue in China. The purpose of this study was to examine associations between body mass index (BMI), cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), musculoskeletal fitness (MSF) and HRQOL among Chinese adolescents. METHODS: Participants were 10,007 students (boys: 14.14 years±1.79; girls: 14.22 years±1.81) selected from 30 secondary schools in Shandong, China. Weight, height, 1000 m/800 m runs and the standing-long jump were measured to present BMI, CRF and MSF, respectively. HRQOL was measured by the Quality of Life Scale for Children and Adolescents (QLSCA). ANCOVA and multiple regression were employed to analyze the relationships among BMI, CRF and MSF and HRQOL RESULTS: BMI and physical fitness variables were partially associated with HRQOL in Chinese adolescents. Only several dimensions in ANCOVA showed a significant difference by BMI in this test. For boys, significant differences were found in physical sense, living convenience, self-satisfaction. For girls, the significant differences were observed only in social activity opportunity. For both boys and girls, the results also showed the higher MSF scores, the higher student partnership scores; the higher CRF scores, the lower scores in teacher and student relationship, and parent and children relationship. The multiple regression analysis demonstrated that BMI was significantly associated with social activity opportunities. For boys, CRF was associated with teacher and student relationship, self-satisfaction . whereas MSF was only associated with physical sense. For girls, CRF was significantly linked with parent and children relationship, learning capacity and attitudes and self-perception, while MSF was associated with self-perception and other factors. CONCLUSION: physical activity and physical fitness will be a crucial pathway in enhancing adolescents’ HRQOL in China.
Associations Among Physical Education, Activity-Related Healthy Lifestyle Practices, and Cardiorespiratory Fitness of Chinese Youth

Abstract:Purpose: Physical education (PE) in school provides opportunities for physical activity (PA) engagement and reportedly results in improved health-related fitness. This study explored the underlying correlations between PE and activity-related healthy lifestyle practices with current level of cardiorespiratory fitness. Methods: A total of 13,138 students age 14 (boys = 7,094, 54.0%) in Grade 8 from the China National Assessment of Educational Quality - Physical Education & Health 2015 were included in this study. Two independent structural equation modeling (SEM) analyses were conducted to obtained sex-specific results. Data included the results of the 15-m progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance run (PACER) and questionnaire data regarding PE curriculum implementation, learning and practice, perceived support from PE teachers, PE facilities, PE equipment, activity-related healthy lifestyle practices, habitual physical fitness, appropriate method of physical fitness, and breakfast eating habits. Structural equation modeling was applied to examine the associations between variables, controlling for socioeconomic status, the location of schools, and Body Mass Index. Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and activity-related healthy lifestyle practices, which was somewhat positively impacted by skill learning and practice and perceived support from PE teachers. Together, the boy's model explained 21.8% of the variance in cardiorespiratory fitness, whereas the girl's model explained 15.9%. Conclusions: A well-organized PE program is related to students' activity-related healthy lifestyle practices, and consequently provides an improvement to cardiorespiratory fitness.
Physical Fitness and Dietary Intake Improve Mental Health in Chinese Adolescence Aged 12–13

Abstract:Background: Mental health has become a major public health issue worldwide. Biological and epidemiological studies have suggested that diet and physical fitness play a role in the prevention or cure of mental disorders. However, further research is required to elucidate the relationship between diet, physical fitness, and mental health. The study aims to provide a theoretical basis for promoting an adolescent healthy lifestyle and preventing mental problems by exploring the relationship between physical fitness, calcium intake, calorie intake, and adolescent mental health. Methods: A cross-sectional study of a sample of adolescents ( N = 253, 12–13 years) was conducted. The study involved adolescents from three middle schools in Central Jiangsu Province, including 136 boys and 117 girls. Weight, height, and body mass index were measured. Physical fitness was scored using the Chinese National Student Physical Fitness Standard. Diet data were collected using a weighed 7-day food diary to estimate energy intake and dietary calcium intake. The mental health status of the participants was assessed using the Chinese Middle School Student Mental Health Scale. A T -test and analysis of variance were used to analyze the differences of variables between different genders and body mass index, and Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression were used to explore the relationship between physical fitness, dietary intake, and mental health. Results: The height (165.13 ± 8.07), weight (55.24 ± 13.00), and strength quality (64.93 ± 21.66) of boys are higher than those of girls (161.67 ± 6.44,48.99 ± 8.97, 58.40 ± 23.75, P < 0.05), and the flexibility quality (74.59 ± 14.75) of girls is higher than that of boys (68.30 ± 20.84) ( P < 0.05). There were significant differences in the total scores of speed and physical fitness (F values were 4.02187.73, 3.07, 5.95, 10.33, and 9.52, respectively, P < 0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between calcium intake, cardiopulmonary fitness, and mental health ( r = 0.276, P < 0.01; r = 0.159, P < 0.05). Calcium intake and cardiopulmonary fitness could explain 8.4% of the changes in the mental health of adolescents aged 12–13(ΔR 2 = 0.084, P < 0.05). Conclusion: Adequate calcium intake and the improvement of cardiopulmonary fitness in adolescents aged 12–13 are essential for the good development of their mental health. Future research in this field should examine the prospective associations between multiple measures of physical fitness composition and other nutrients ingested and mental health outcomes, as well as intervention studies that seek to provide evidence of causality.

Individual-, Family-, and School-Level Ecological Correlates With Physical Fitness Among Chinese School-Aged Children and Adolescents: A National Cross-Sectional Survey in 2014

Abstract:Introduction: Few studies have examined the association between the individual-, family-, and school-level ecological correlates and physical fitness among Chinese children and adolescents, which is the purpose of the present study.Methods: A total of 157,168 children and adolescents, 10-18 years of age, with physical fitness data in 2014, participated in the study. Physical fitness was assessed, using six tests: forced vital capacity, standing long jump, sit and reach, body muscle strength, 50-m dash, and endurance running. Scores were aggregated to form a summary physical fitness indicator (PFI), which was then classified into five levels: low, low-middle, middle, middle-high, and high. Each option of individual-, family-, and school-level measures were constructed into a positive or negative correlate of physical fitness and then accumulated as a composite ecological score.Results: Among the 20 individual-, family-, and school-level correlates, 18 were found to be significantly associated with PFI, with high PFI levels being correlated with the positive group of correlates and low PFI levels correlated with the negative group of correlates (p < 0.05). High scores of ecological correlates were associated with a high level of PFI [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 1.06, 95% CI: 1.06, 1.07)] whereas low scores were associated with a low level of PFI (OR = 0.95, 95% CI:0.95, 0.95). The ecological correlates at the individual, school- and family-levels were shown to be significantly related to high PFI among Chinese children and adolescents aged 10-18 years with different ORs of 5.97 (95% CI: 5.51, 6.47), 3.94 (3.66, 4.24), and 1.25 (1.19, 1.31). The PAR% of 20 cumulative factors effects due to the negative and positive responses for low PFI levels were 35.9 and 16.1%, and, for high PFI levels, were 15.3 and 24.1%, among Chinese children and adolescents, respectively. Compared with the correlates at family and school levels, the correlates at individual levels had the largest PAR%.Conclusion: Individual-, family-, and school-multilevel factors had a significant cumulative association with either improving or worsening aspects of physical fitness. Individual level factors remain at the core of physical fitness improvement. Comprehensive policies and measures are urgently needed to enhance the physical fitness of Chinese children and adolescents through involving further individual and environmental factors.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Purpose: This study examined the prevalence of different weight status and the relationships between weight status and physical fitness among Chinese children and youth. Methods: Participants were 107,206 Grade 4 children and 70,213 Grade 8 youth from the China National Assessment of Educational Quality – Physical Education & Health in 2015 (CNAEQ-PEH 2015). Using World Health Organization (WHO) and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) criteria, weight status was divided into four groups (underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese) according to Body Mass Index (BMI). The differences of physical fitness performances (15-m progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance run [PACER], standing long jump, and 50-m sprint) among four weight status groups were compared. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, MANCOVA, and Cohen’s d. Results: The prevalence of weight status varied by criteria (e.g., for Grade 4 boys, the prevalence of underweight by WHO and CDC were 5.9% and 10.5%; overweight were 14.5% and 11.4%, respectively). Compared with the normal weight group, the selected physical fitness performances in the overweight and obese groups were worse (p < .001) with small to large effect sizes. Conclusion: The prevalence of underweight and overweight/obese was relatively high among Chinese children and youth. The prevalence of underweight, overweight, and obesity varied slightly depending on the criteria used for evaluating BMI. The overweight/obese participants tended to perform poorer in selected physical fitness tests. The performance disparities between the normal weight group and overweight/obese groups were larger in Grade 4 than in Grade 8 and among boys than among girls.
Current situation and factors influencing physical fitness among adolescents aged 12 ∼ 15 in Shandong Province, China: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:Adolescent physical fitness serves not merely as a current barometer of well-being but as a significant prognosticator of future health trajectories. Amidst the tumult of socioeconomic metamorphoses and pronounced lifestyle transitions enveloping China-mirroring global trends-the imperative to elucidate the present landscape of adolescent physical fitness intensifies. Moreover, discerning the myriad determinants underpinning it becomes paramount. In this context, our research endeavored to meticulously delineate the physical fitness milieu of adolescents residing in Shandong Province, systematically unpacking the multifarious influencers thereof. The insights garnered herein furnish an empirical foundation, primed to guide the sculpting of calibrated interventions, targeting the enhancement of health in this pivotal population cohort. In an extensive evaluative survey conducted in 2023 concerning the physical fitness of Shandong's student populace, a cohort of 33,211 adolescents aged 12 to 15 years was delineated utilizing a stratified random cluster sampling technique. This exercise meticulously quantified the physical fitness indices across diverse gender, age, and household registration classifications, subsequently computing the concomitant qualified rates. Employing multivariable logistic regression analysis, this investigation delved into the determinants modulating the adolescents' physical fitness qualified rate. For 2023, the aggregate fitness qualified rate stood at 91.94 % for the adolescents aged 12 ∼ 15 in Shandong Province. Gender-wise, female adolescents registered a qualified rate of 92.25 %, marginally eclipsing their male peers at 91.63 % (P < 0.05). An age-related trend in qualified rates was discernible, with marked variations across different age bands (P < 0.05): 91.37 % for 12-year-olds, 91.79 % for 13-year-olds, 91.81 % for 14-year-olds, and a zenith of 92.87 % for 15-year-olds. A geographical dichotomy emerged wherein rural adolescents distinctly outperformed their urban counterparts, notching up a 92.28 % qualified rate versus 91.64 % in urban settings (P < 0.05). The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for gender, age, and household registration characteristics, adolescents had a lower odds of failing the physical fitness tests whose parents both liked physical exercises, whose parents supported children's participation in physical exercise, who participated in physical exercise sessions 3 ∼ 5 times per week or more than 5 times per week, who exercised for 0.5 ∼ 1 h each time or more than 1 h each time, who engaged in moderate intensity physical exercise, who slept 6 ∼ 8 h per day or more than 8 h per day, who consumed breakfast 3 ∼ 6 times per week or daily. On the other hand, adolescents had a higher odds of failing the physical fitness tests who always exposed to passive smoking, who spent 1 ∼ 3 h on screen per day or more than 3 h on screen per day, who spent more than 3 h doing homework per day, who consumed fast food 2 ∼ 3 times per week or more than 3 times per week. The physical fitness trajectory of adolescents residing within Shandong Province is tethered to a mosaic of determinants. This underscores the imperative for a synergistic strategy, harmonizing parental, scholastic, and societal vectors, to cultivate the salubrious maturation of this pivotal cohort.
Understanding Adolescents' Need Support, Need Satisfaction, and Health-Related Outcomes: A Self-Determination Health Behavior Perspective

Abstract:School physical education (PE) as an important social context can promote adolescents' physical health and contributes to their mental health. Guided by the self-determination health behavior model, the study aimed to examine a structural mediation model to investigate the relationships among perceived need support from PE teachers, psychological need satisfaction, and adolescents' health-related outcomes. Participants were 300 adolescents (Mage = 14.48; 50.3% girls) recruited from five middle schools in Shanghai, China. They completed previously validated questionnaires assessing their perceived need support from PE teachers, psychological need satisfaction, leisure time physical activity (LTPA), and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The hypothesized model demonstrated a good fit (χ2/df = 3.4, p < 0.01; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0.09; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) = 0.06; Bentler-Bonett Nonnormed Fit Index (NFI)= 0.92; Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.94; 90% Confidence Interval (CI) [0.07, 0.11]). The findings indicated that three basic psychological needs can be satisfied by perceived need support from PE teachers, and psychological need satisfaction was positively associated with health-related outcomes such as LTPA and HRQOL. In addition, psychological need satisfaction mediated the relationship between perceived need support from PE teachers and health-related outcomes such as LTPA and HRQOL in the present study. The findings supported the theoretical tenets of the self-determination health behavior model and its generalizability among Chinese adolescent students.

Abstract:Introduction: Physical inactivity and mental health disorders are emerging threats to public health in China. Previous research on links between exercise and mental wellbeing have focused on clinical populations, with little evidence from the general population, particularly younger adults. We aimed to investigate associations between physical fitness and mental health in Chinese college students. Methods: In this series, of cross-sectional observational studies, we enrolled 7,468 Chinese college students aged 16-24 years in 199 classes at Changzhou Vocational Institute of Engineering between Sept 1, 2017, and Jun 30, 2018. Exposures of interest were the students' physical fitness level, measured by the Chinese University Students Physique Test. The primary outcomes were mental health situations, measured by the University Personality Inventory (UPI). The multivariable linear regression models were used to assess the relationship between the levels of physical fitness and mental disorders symptoms. Results: Completed mental health and physical fitness data were available for 6,724 participants aged 16-24 years. Compared with the failed group, the corresponding levels of difference in overall UPI scores were - 1.45 scores (95% CI: -2.45, -0.46; p < 0.01) for the passed group and - 2.95 scores (95% CI: -4.13, -1.77; p < 0.01) for the good group. Similar results were observed in the four different aspects of psychotic disorder symptoms. Discussion: There was a significantly negative correlation between the level of physical fitness and phycological situations among Chinese college students. Our findings highlight the psychological situations of students with low physical fitness levels should be concerned.

Abstract:This study aimed to estimate temporal trends in physical fitness (PF) by regions, age groups and nutritional status among Chinese children and adolescents and to longitudinally examine PF determinants based on social-ecological model. Participants (n = 68,265) aged 7-18 were from five successive national surveys (2000 to 2019). Six tested items of PF were calculated as PF indicator (PFI), which was used to divide participants into two categories: low vs. moderate/high. One-way analysis of variance was used to compare difference and change trend of PFI. Linear regression evaluated relationship between PFI and body mass index (BMI), and logistic regression assessed association between PFI and factors of behaviours and lifestyles on individual-, family- and school-level based on the social-ecological model. PFI declined sharply from 2000 to 2010, increased slightly from 2010 to 2014 and then edged down in 2019. Students with moderate BMI and students in urban areas tended to have higher PFI, and larger increase of PFI was found in students aged 7-9 and 13-15 after 2010. Several determinants on individual-, family- and school-level related to PFI. Efforts to develop PF mainly include increasing PA and reducing sedentary behaviours by facilitating home-school collaboration and emphasizing age-, region- and BMI-specific actions.
Realization of stress detection using psychophysiological signals for improvement of human-computer interactions

Abstract:It has been suggested that effectively detecting the stress level of a computer user could possibly develop the computers' ability to respond intelligently and help the user relax from negative emotional states during human-computer interaction. Our research focuses on the use of three physiological signals: blood volume pulse (BVP), galvanic skin response (GSR) and pupil diameter (PD), to automatically monitor the stress state of computer users. This paper reports on the hardware and software instrumentation development and signal processing approach used to detect changes in the stress level of a subject interacting with a computer, within the framework of a specific experimental task. For this experiment a computer game was implemented on the basis of a clinical mental stress test, called the 'Stroop Test', adapted to make the subject experience two different levels of stress, while his/her BVP, GSR and PD signals were continuously recorded Several data processing techniques were applied to extract effective attributes of the 'stress' state of the subjects. Current results indicate that there exists a strong correlation among changes in those three signals and the shift in the emotional states when stress stimuli are applied to the interaction environment.
Association between Weight Status and Physical Fitness in Chinese Mainland Children and Adolescents: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background: The increasing prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents is a major public health challenge worldwide. This study examined the relationship between physical fitness and BMI spanning the range from underweight to obese among Chinese mainland children and adolescents. Methods: Participants were 22,681 children and adolescents (11,300 boys and 11,381 girls) aged 10–18 years from the Chinese mainland. Weight status was classified as underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese using WHO 2007 standards. Physical fitness parameters such as cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2max), lower body explosive strength (standing broad jump), upper body explosive strength (handgrip strength), abdominal muscular endurance (sit-ups in 30 s), flexibility (sit-and-reach), and agility (repeat bestride (20 s)) were assessed. Results: There was a significant association between weight status categories and physical fitness in all age groups and sex (plinear < 0.001, pquadratic < 0.001). Underweight adolescents performed better in lower limb strength, flexibility, agility, and cardiorespiratory fitness than their obese peers, but worse in upper limb strength. Underweight boys aged 10–11 and 12–13 years and girls aged 10–11 years showed significantly (p < 0.05) high odds of meeting a low physical fitness index. Obese adolescents have high odds of meeting a low physical fitness index with age. Conclusion: The present study showed a nonlinear relationship between weight status and physical fitness. Children and adolescents who were classified as underweight or obese had poorer physical fitness than their normal-weight peers.

Study on the relationship and related factors between physical fitness and health behavior of preschool children in southwest China

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the physical fitness level and health behavior status of preschool children in China, explore the relationship between physical fitness and health behavior, and further reveal the main factors affecting health behavior, to provide a reference for improving the physical fitness level of preschool children and maintaining healthy behavior. Methods: A total of 755 preschool children (394 boys and 361 girls, aged 4.52 ± 1.11 years) were selected from Chongqing and Liupanshui in China by cluster random sampling method for questionnaire survey and physical monitoring, and SPSS21.0 software was used to process and analyze the data. Results: (1) Heart rate (p = 0.015), protein content (p < 0.001), and time spent on the balance beam (p < 0.001) were significantly lower in boys than in girls, while BMI (p = 0.012), muscle mass (p < 0.001), and distance of standing long jump (p < 0.001) were significantly higher in boys than in girls. Meanwhile, systolic blood pressure (p = 0.004) and diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.001) of rural children were significantly higher than those of urban children, while BMI (p < 0.001) and sitting forward flexion (p = 0.019) were significantly lower than those of urban children. (2) The light-intensity physical activity (LPA) and moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) of boys were significantly higher than that of girls (p < 0.001), and the MVPA of urban children was significantly higher than that of rural children (p = 0.001), and the former participated in sports classes more frequently (p < 0.001). (3) There was a significant correlation between physical activity (PA) and physical fitness indicators of preschoolers. Participating in sports interest classes was only significantly correlated with systolic blood pressure (r = 0.08) and sitting forward flexion (r = 0.09). (4) The PA level of preschool children was related to gender, household registration, kindergarten nature, age, residence environment, parental support, and participation degree. Participation in sports interest classes was related to gender, the nature of the kindergarten, household registration, age, and parent participation. Daily screen time was related to household registration, the nature of the kindergarten, the environment of residence, and the value perception of parents. Conclusions: There were different degrees of correlation between preschool children's physical fitness and health behaviors, and children's health behaviors were closely related to gender, environment, parents, and other factors. Therefore, how to increase the protective factors of children's health behaviors and controlling the risk factors may be crucial to promoting the development of good health behaviors and improving the physical fitness of preschool children.

Abstract:—Levels of 3‐methoxy‐4‐hydroxyphenylethylene glycol (MHPG), a major metabolite of norepinephrine, were measured in human CSF by gas‐liquid chromatography. MHPG concentrations were similar in both ventricular and lumbar CSF samples; about 30 per cent of the MHPG from either source occurred as the sulphate conjugate. There was relatively little entry of intravenously infused [14C]MHPG into lumbar spinal fluid. Both α‐methylparatyrosine, an inhibitor of tyrosine hydroxylase, and fusaric acid, an inhibitor of dopamine‐β‐hydroxylase, significantly diminished MHPG values. On the other hand, doses of l‐DOPA or probenecid, sufficient to substantially elevate CSF levels of the dopamine metabolite, homovanillic acid, failed to alter the spinal fluid content of MHPG. CSF concentrations of MHPG in patients with Parkinson's disease or the other central nervous system disorders studied did not differ significantly from control levels. The results suggest that MHPG values in CSF may provide an index to norepinephrine metabolism in the central nervous system of man.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the prevalence of physical fitness among Chinese Han students aged 13-18 years in 2014, and explore related influencing factors. Methods: This study recruited 106 881 Han students aged 13-18 years who had taken physical fitness test from Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health in 2014. After the exclusion of 1 047 students without complete records of physical fitness test, 105 834 students were included in the final analysis. According to the National Student Physical Health Standard modified in 2014, seven indicators including body mass index, vital capacity, 50-m run, sit-and-reach, standing broad jump, pull-ups/curl-ups and endurance run were tested to calculate the total score of students' physical fitness. Students with score ≥60 were regarded as qualified students. Multivariate non-conditional logistic regression model was used to analyze influencing factors of physical fitness. Results: Among Chinese Han students aged 13-18 years, the total score was 70.1±10.7 and the qualified rate was 83.9% (n=88 813). Boys (83.5% (44 197/52 910)) had a lower qualified rate of physical fitness than girls (84.3% (44 616/52 924)) (P<0.001), and 13-15 age group (86.5% (46 255/53 465)) was higher than the 16-18 age group (81.3% (42 558/52 369)) (P<0.001). Except for 16-18-year-old boys from central region, normal body mass index, eastern region, good socioeconomic status, enough PE class, exercise time ≥1 h/d, homework time ≥2 h/d, TV time <1 h/d were all related to high qualified rates of physical fitness (P<0.05). Conclusion: Chinese Han students aged 13-18 years were in good physical condition. The qualified rates of physical fitness were significantly different by gender and age groups. Nutritional status, region, socioeconomic status, PE class, exercise time per day, homework time per day, and TV time per day were related factors of physical fitness.

Abstract:Objective. To investigate the association of weight status with physical fitness among Chinese children. Methods. A total of 6929 children aged 6–12 years were selected from 15 primary schools of 5 provincial capital cities in eastern China. The height and fasting body weight were measured. The age-, sex-specific BMI WHO criteria was used to define underweight, overweight and obesity. Physical fitness parameters including standing broad jump, 50 m sprint, and 50 m∗8 shuttle run were tested. Results. The prevalence of underweight, overweight, and obesity was 3.1%, 14.9%, and 7.8%, respectively. Boys performed better than girls, and the older children performed better than their younger counterparts for all physical fitness tests. No significant difference in all three physical fitness tests were found between children with underweight and with normal weight, and they both performed better than their counterparts with overweight and obese in all three physical fitness tests. The likelihood of achieving good performance was much lower among overweight and obese children in comparison with their counterparts with normal weight (OR=0.13–0.54). Conclusions. An inverse association of obesity with cardiorespiratory fitness, muscle explosive strength, and speed was identified among Chinese children.

Abstract:Background: Existing studies reporting on the levels of physical fitness among high school students use relatively few fitness tests for indicators of physical fitness, thus, incomprehensively evaluating the levels of physical fitness. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and physical fitness index (PFI) by investigating five physical fitness indicators and calculating PHI. Method: Anthropometric measurements and indicators from five measures of physical fitness (50-m sprint, sit and reach, standing long jump, 800/1,000-m run, pull-up/bent-leg sit-up) were assessed. BMI was calculated to classify individuals into underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese categories. Z -scores based on sex-specific mean and standard deviation were calculated, and the sum of Z -scores from the six fitness tests indicated the PFI. The findings were fitted to a linear regression model to elucidate the potential relationship between BMI and PFI. Results: In total, 176,655 high school students (male: 88,243, female: 88,412, age: 17.1 ± 1.05 years, height: 168.87 ± 11.1 cm, weight: 62.54 ± 15.15 kg) in Jinan, China, completed the physical fitness tests between 2020 and 2021. The one-way ANOVA models showed that PFI in the normal category was significantly higher as compared to all the other BMI categories within both male and female groups ( p < 0.001), and PFI in the obese category was significantly lower as compared to all the other BMI categories for both male and female groups ( p < 0.001). The association between PFI and BMI showed an inverted U-shape relationship. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that BMI affects the PFI in both males and females. As compared to the obese and overweight categories based on BMI, significantly higher scores of PFI were observed for males and females.

Abstract:In order to ensure the widespread application of information technology to departments of medical imaging, there is a real need to develop a digitally compatible, film-replacement, radiographic imaging system. The feasibility of employing digital ionography in this capacity has been demonstrated Moores et al, 1984, 1985) using a laboratory prototype system. We wish to present preliminary results produced by the clinical prototype digital ionography system in order to demonstrate its imaging capability as well as indicate the overall potential of this technology.

Abstract:Purpose: To better promote college students’ physical activity (PA) and quality of life (QoL), it is imperative to understand this population’s PA correlates, such as self-determined motivation and perceived competence. However, few studies existed in this area of inquiry among Chinese college students. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among Chinese college students’ self-determined motivation, PA, and QoL. Method: A total of 220 college students (115 females; Mage = 20.29 years, SD = 2.37; MBMI = 20.67) were recruited from one university in south-central China. Participants were instructed to wear the ActiGraph GT9X Link (ActiGraph, Pensacola, FL, USA) accelerometers for 7 days. A minute-by-minute stepping rate methodology was used to determine participants sedentary behaviors, light physical activity (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Participants’ self-determined motivation (autonomous, controlled, and amotivation), perceived competence, and QoL (physical function, stress, depression, fatigue, sleep, and social issues) were assessed by a battery of validated surveys in June 2017. Results: Participants reported moderate–high levels of PA correlates and QoL as the means ranged from 5.5 to 6 (out of 7) for PA correlates and 2.75 to 4 (out of 4) for QoL. The minute-by-minute stepping rate revealed participants had average 580.51 min/day in sedentary, 134.77 min/day in LPA, and 1.57 min/day in MVPA. Regression analyses for physical function, stress, depression, and social issues suggested that the models explained 4%–8% of the variances. Specifically, perceived competence was the negative predictor of the problems with physical function (β = −0.17, p < 0.05) and depression (β = −0.18, p < 0.01), amotivation was positively associated with depression and stress (p < 0.05). Additionally, controlled motivation predicted the ability to participate in social roles and activities (β = 0.22, p < 0.05). No significant predictors emerged for fatigue or for sleep. Conclusions: Findings suggest Chinese college students’ perceived competence and social support are critical for improving PA and QoL. In addition, strategies are needed to motivate Chinese college students to engage in PA participation and improve overall well-being.

Abstract:Objective To understand the current situation of physical fitness levels of Chinese primary and middle school students and to explore factors influencing on physical fitness.Methods A total of 215 319 students aged 7-18 were selected from "National Physical Fitness and Health Surveillance on Chines School Students in 2010",stratified cluster sampling was taken to select subjects from 30 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities(except Tibet).Physical development indicators were measured,and questionnaires about physical activities and lifestyle were used."The National Standards of Physical Fitness in School Students"(published by Ministry of Education of People' s Republic of China) was taken to evaluate students' physical fitness.Univariable analysis and Logistic regression were used to analyze the association between physical fitness and individual factors,school factors and social factors.Results The overall pass rate was 71.3% and the rates of boys and girls were 74.2% and 68.4%,respectively.The results revealed the pass rate decreasing with the growth of age,and the rate among students from urban areas was lower than that among students from rural areas.Univariable analysis illustrated that,as for social economic levels,subjects from "developed" and "moderate" areas had higher pass rates than subjects from "low" areas;students who took sufficient PE classes had a higher pass rate than subjects who took insufficient PE classes;compared with healthy-weight subjects,overweight and obese students had a lower pass rate;students who spent more than 2 hours on homework had a lower pass rate than who spent less than 2 hours on homework;in most age groups,subjects who spent more than 2 hours on TV,computer or electronic games had a lower pass rate;students who did exercises more than 1 hours per day had a higher compliance rate.Logistic regression demonstrated that,students from areas with low social economic development had a higher risk not to reach the national standards(OR=1.098,95%CI: 1.069-1.128);students who took sufficient PE classes had a higher risk not to reach the national standards in comparison with subjects who took insufficient PE classes(OR=1.283,95%CI:1.252-1.315);overweight and obese students had a higher failure rate than healthy-weight students(OR=3.483,95%CI:3.375-3.595);students who did exercises less than 1 hours per day had a higher failure rate(OR=1.256,95%CI:1.224-1.296);students who spent more than 2 hours on TV,computer or electronic games had a higher failure rate(OR=1.226,95%CI:1.180-1.274).Conclusion The pass rate of physical fitness among Chinese school students is comparatively low,students from less developed areas,taking insufficient PE classes or exercise less than 1 hours per day,having more sedentary activities have higher failure rates;overweight and obese students have a higher failure rate as well.
