Abstract:This paper studies the fixed-time synchronization of a class of quaternion-valued neural networks (QVNNs) with time delays and impulses. In contrast to some existing decomposition methods for studying this problem, this paper presents several strategies to simplify the implicit Lyapunov function method from both controller and implicit function equation perspectives. The benefits of these strategies are, in the first strategy, the controller does not contain the Lyapunov function so that the controller will be more general, and in the second strategy, the implicit function equation is simpler so that the restriction on the bounded Lyapunov function can be dispensed with, which also makes the technique of handling time delays simpler. Furthermore, three sufficient conditions for fixed-time synchronization of the above QVNN are presented, despite the impulsive influence. Finally, we verify the feasibility of our methods with three examples.

Abstract:This paper investigates the fixed-time tracking control for a class of state-constrained nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems without involving the feasibility conditions. Based on nonlinear mapping, a nonlinear state transformation function is constructed to convert the constrained system into an equivalent system without state constraints, which achieves the asymmetric time-varying state constraints and eliminates the feasibility conditions on the virtual controllers. A nonlinear fixed-time filter with dynamic surface control is utilized to handle the problem of explosion of complexity in the backstepping framework. Furthermore, we develop a fixed-time observer-based tracking control strategy for the nonstrict-feedback system subject to unmeasured states. To remove the restrictive assumptions of known control gain functions, the nonlinear system is reconstructed and the neural networks are employed to approximate the unknown terms. In addition, a hyperbolic tangent function is utilized to address the input saturation problem. Through the Lyapunov theorem, the closed-loop system is proven to be practical fixed-time stable within the constraint requirements. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This article concentrates on fixed-time synchronization for discontinuous fuzzy competitive neural networks including time-varying delays. Firstly, to cut down the signal transmission cost, two kinds of nontrivial control strategies, namely quantized control protocols without the linear part, are developed to investigate fixed-time synchronization of discontinuous fuzzy competitive neural networks based on two different types of Lyapunov functions. Then, with the aid of inequality skills and differential inclusion theory, several uncomplicated synchronization criteria are attained and the synchronized time possessing less conservativeness is effectively evaluated. A numerical example is presented at last to testify the validity of theoretical analysis.

Abstract:Inertial neural networks are proposed via introducing an inertia term into the Hopfield models, which make their dynamic behavior more complex compared to the traditional first-order models. Besides, the aperiodically intermittent quantized control over conventional feedback control has its potential advantages on reducing communication blocking and saving control cost. Based on these facts, we are mainly devoted to exploring of exponential synchronization of quaternion-valued inertial neural networks under aperiodically intermittent quantized control. Firstly, a compact quaternion-valued aperiodically intermittent quantized control protocol is developed, which can mitigate significantly the complexity of theoretical derivation. Subsequently, several concise criteria involving matrix inequalities are formulated through constructing a type of Lyapunov functional and employing a direct analysis approach. The correctness of the obtained results eventually is verified by a typical example.

Abstract:In this paper, the fixed-time and preassigned-time synchronization issues of fully quaternion-valued fuzzy memristive neural networks are studied based on the dynamic event-triggered control mechanism. Initially, the fuzzy rules are defined within the quaternion domain and the relevant properties are established through rigorous analysis. Subsequently, to conserve resources and enhance the efficiency of the controller, a kind of dynamic event-triggered control mechanism is introduced for the fuzzy memristive neural networks. Based on the non-separation analysis, fixed-time and preassigned-time synchronization criteria are presented and the Zeno phenomenon under the event-triggered mechanism is excluded successfully. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical results is verified through numerical simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the finite time anti-synchronization (A-SYN) of master-slave coupled quaternion-valued neural networks, where the time-varying delays can be asynchronous and unbounded. Without adopting the general decomposition method, the quaternion-valued state is considered as a whole, which greatly reduces the hassle of further analysis and calculations. The designed controller is delay-free, and the terms with time delay do not need to be bounded globally. Several sufficient conditions for ensuring the finite time A-SYN are obtained under 1-norm and 2-norm respectively. The A-SYN error will be proved to evolve from the initial value to 1 in finite time, and evolve from 1 to 0 also in finite time, hence the finite time A-SYN is proved, which is called two-phases-method. Moreover, adaptive rules for control strengths are also designed to realize the finite time A-SYN. Lastly, a numerical example is presented to demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of our obtained results.

Abstract:This article aims to investigate the fixed time synchronization of a class of chaotic neural systems by way of adaptive control method. Using Lyapunov stability theory, a new fixed time stability theorem which plays an important role on the synchronization scheme is presented at first. Then, combining the fixed time stability theorem and adaptive control technique, an adaptive control scheme has been developed to achieve the fixed time synchronization of chaotic neural systems. The proposed controllers assure the global convergence of the error dynamics in fixed-time based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Furthermore, the proposed control strategy cannot only provide a fast convergence rate, but also afford a bounded convergence time which is unrelated to the initial values and easy to work out by using the simple time calculation formula. Finally, numerical simulations are presented by taking a typical two-order chaotic neural system as an example to verify and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of finite-time synchronization control for uncertain Markov jump neural networks in the presence of constraints on the control input amplitude. The parameter uncertainties under consideration are assumed to belong to a fixed convex polytope. By using a parameter-dependent Lyapunov functional and a simple matrix decoupling method, a sufficient condition is proposed to ensure that the considered networks are stochastically synchronized over a finite-time interval. The desired mode-independent controller parameters can be computed via solving a convex optimization problem. Finally, two chaos neural networks are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach.

Abstract:In this article, without decomposing the quaternion-valued neural networks (QVNNs) into two complex-valued subsystems or four real-valued subsystems, quasi-projective synchronization of discrete-time fractional-order QVNNs is investigated. To this end, the sign function for quaternion number is introduced and some related properties are given. Then, two inequalities are built according to the nabla fractional difference and quaternion theory. Subsequently, a simple linear quaternion-valued controller is designed, and some synchronization conditions are given by means of our created inequalities. Finally, numerical simulations are given to prove the feasibility and correctness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this article, the issue on projective synchronization of delayed inertial quaternion-valued neural networks (IQVNNs) is investigated. Different from most existing literature, we adopt the non-reduced order approach to deal with IQVNNs described by second order differential equations. By introducing a novel Lyapunov functional, several sufficient criteria are presented in component form to ensure the projective synchronization between master–slave systems. A numerical experiment demonstrates the feasibility of control strategy as well as the correctness of theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, the exponential synchronization of quaternion-valued memristor-based Cohen–Grossberg neural networks with time-varying delays is discussed. By using the differential inclusion theory and the set-valued map theory, the discontinuous quaternion-valued memristor-based Cohen–Grossberg neural networks are transformed into an uncertain system with interval parameters. A novel controller is designed to achieve the control goal. With some inequality techniques, several criteria of exponential synchronization for quaternion-valued memristor-based Cohen–Grossberg neural networks are given. Different from the existing results using decomposition techniques, a direct analytical approach is used to study the synchronization problem by introducing an improved one-norm method. Moreover, the activation function is less restricted and the Lyapunov analysis process is simpler. Finally, a numerical simulation is given to prove the validity of the main results.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach for fixed‐time synchronization (FIXTS) of neural networks (NNs) by designing quantized intermittent controller. Under the intermittent controller, the synchronization between neural network systems with time delay can be realized. Based on intermittent strategy, FIXTs theory is proposed, and a sufficient condition is established to realize the FIXTS of the master–slave NNs. At the same time, the establishment time of FIXTS is estimated. Finally, the simulation of Gilli attractor to prove the validity of the proposed method.

Abstract:The asymptotic synchronization of quaternion-valued delayed neural networks with impulses and inertia is studied in this article. Firstly, a convergence result on piecewise differentiable functions is developed, which is a generalization of the Barbalat lemma and provides a powerful tool for the convergence analysis of discontinuous systems. To achieve synchronization, a constant gain-based control scheme and an adaptive gain-based control strategy are directly proposed for response quaternion-valued models. In the convergence analysis, a direct analysis method is developed to discuss the synchronization without using the separation technique or reduced-order transformation. In particular, some Lyapunov functionals, composed of the state variables and their derivatives, are directly constructed and some synchronization criteria represented by matrix inequalities are obtained based on quaternion theory. Some numerical results are shown to further confirm the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:<p>The issue of global exponential synchronization is addressed for delayed impulsive and time-varying delayed inertial memristor-based quaternion-valued neural networks (IMQVNNs). First, the concept of the Filippov solution for IMQVNNs is introduced by applying differential inclusion theory. Then, a nonlinear feedback controller is designed in the skew field of quaternions to ensure the realization of global exponential synchronization for IMQVNNs. According to this controller, the global exponential synchronization criteria are established based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Moreover, a corollary for the real-valued system is given to compare with the existing conclusions. Finally, two examples are presented to show the validity of the results.</p>

Abstract:This paper investigates the synchronization problem of neural networks with time-varying delay under sampled-data control in the presence of a constant input delay. Based on the extended Wirtinger inequality, a discontinuous Lyapunov functional is introduced, which makes full use of the sawtooth structure characteristic of sampling input delay. A simple and less conservative synchronization criterion is given to ensure the master systems synchronize with the slave systems by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The design method of the desired sampled-data controller is also proposed. Finally, two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:Quaternions provide expressive power beyond real numbers, allowing neural networks to capture and process correlations and patterns in data with greater complexity. Besides, event-triggering mechanism has significant advantages in reducing redundant data transmission and control costs, since the sampling instant is determined by preset trigger conditions. Based on these fact, this article investigates the fixed-time and preassigned-time synchronization of quaternion-valued Bidirectional Associative Memory (BAM) neural networks via event-triggered control. Firstly, based on a dual-layer network structure with different number of nodes, a type of BAM neural network with generalized time-varying delays is established in the quaternion domain. Secondly, four kinds of Zeno-free dynamic event-triggered control mechanisms are designed, and the trigger condition can be dynamically adjusted according to the changing requirements. In the framework of non-separation analysis, the synchronization the controlled network can be guaranteed within a fixed time, and the upper bound of the setting time is provided explicitly. Furthermore, to better meet practical needs, the above event-triggered mechanism and the criteria are extended to the PAT synchronization. Two illustrate examples are presented at last to validate the developed event-triggered mechanism and synchronization results.

Abstract:In this paper, the projective synchronization of quaternion-valued memristor-based neural networks with time-varing delays was studied. First, by utilizing set-valued map and differential inclusion theories, we reformulated the networks as an uncertain system with interval parameters. Then, through designing a novel controller and utilizing Lyapunov function and Young's inequality, several new synchronization conditions for projection synchronization of quaternion-valued memristor-based neural networks were obtained. Finally, the effectiveness of this method was demonstrated through a numerical example, underscoring its practical applicability.

Abstract:This paper concerns a class of coupled competitive neural networks, subject to disturbance and discontinuous activation functions. To realize the fixed-time quasi-bipartite synchronization, an aperiodic intermittent controller is initially designed. Subsequently, by combining the fixed-time stability theory and nonsmooth analysis, several criteria are established to ensure the bipartite synchronization in fixed time. Moreover, synchronization error bounds and settling time estimates are provided. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to verify the main results.

Abstract:In this paper, the studies on fixed-time and preassigned-time synchronization for a kind of nonlinear coupled Cohen-Grossberg neural networks (CGNNs) are researched by event-triggered non-chattering control. Firstly, differing from some existed fixed-time synchronization control strategies, a power-law feedback controller without sign function is adopted to achieve non-chattering control effect. To save communication and computational resources, an event-triggered mechanism (ETM) is introduced, which can naturally avoid Zeno behavior. By designing preassigned time parameters as controller parameters, the preassigned-time synchronization of dynamic networks is studied. Then, based on the designed control mechanism, sufficient conditions for fixed-time and preassigned-time synchronization of the nonlinear coupled CGNNs are given. Finally, the validity and generality of the obtained results are verified by numerical simulation.

Abstract:This paper discusses a type of mixed-delay quaternion-valued neural networks (QVNNs) under impulsive and stochastic disturbances. The considered QVNNs model are treated as a whole, rather than as complex-valued neural networks (NNs) or four real-valued NNs. Using the vector Lyapunov function method, some criteria are provided for securing the mean-square exponential stability of the mixed-delay QVNNs under impulsive and stochastic disturbances. Furthermore, a type of chaotic QVNNs under stochastic and impulsive disturbances is considered using a previously established stability analysis method. After the completion of designing the linear feedback control law, some sufficient conditions are obtained using the vector Lyapunov function method for determining the mean-square exponential synchronization of drive–response systems. Finally, two examples are provided to demonstrate the correctness and feasibility of the main findings and one example is provided to validate the use of QVNNs for image associative memory.
