Abstract:Background In tropical and subtropical region, Cassia (Fabaceae) is widely distributed, and many species of this genus are used for medicinal purposes such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes in China and India. However, there are limited reviews describing the biological activity on metabolic syndrome associated with Cassia species. Methods Online databases including SciFinder, Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, ACS Journals, Springer, Tailor & Francis, Wiley, The Plant List Database, Google Scholar, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), were consulted by using “Cassia”, “决明属(Cassia)”, “Senna”, “ethnobotany”, “traditional use”, “ethnomedicine”, “phytochemistry”, “Lipid Metabolism”, “metabolic syndrome”, “anti-obesity”, “anti-diabetes” and “anti- hyperlipidemia” as keywords. Results Extracts, a total of 23 non-volatile natural products and one peptide from 18 Cassia species have demonstrated efficacy in treating metabolic syndrome and related complications. Sixty-five commercial Chinese polyherbal preparation with ingredients of Cassia seeds or Senna leaves showed effects on MetS. Conclusions This review presents an in-depth analysis of the chemical constituents and medicinal properties of the ethnomedicinally important Cassia species on metabolic syndrome and related complications such as hyperlipidemia, obesity and diabetes etc. Overall, most publications focused on species of C. angustifolia, C. auriculate, C. fistula, C. glauca, and C. obtusifolia. It is not fully understood how chemical compounds interact with the corresponding target proteins. In spite of this, preliminary data from other Cassia species indicate the potential of this genus for research on metabolic syndrome, both phytochemically, pharmacologically and clinical uses of C. species.
Isolation, characterization and pharmacological potentials of methanol extract of Cassia fistula leaves: Evidenced from mice model along with molecular docking analysis

Abstract:The purpose of the current investigation was to conduct a detailed analysis of the chemical components and medicinal properties of the methanolic crude extract derived from the leaves of Cassia fistula. This analysis was carried out using both experimental (in vivo) and computational (in silico) methods. Eleven chemicals were chromatographically isolated using GC-MS/MS, which utilizes a library of NIST and Wiley 2020 versions. FTIR analysis of the extract was performed to identify the functional group of the compounds. The glucose-lowering capacity, analgesic, and anti-diarrheal activities of methanolic crude extract were analyzed utilizing a well-known oral glucose tolerance test, tail immersion method, writhing assay, and castor oil-induced diarrheal mice methods, respectively. After 60 min, 120 min, and 180 min of loading the drugs, a significant reduction of blood glucose levels was examined (p < 0.05) in all the extracts of this plant (200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg and 600 mg/kg) utilized in this research at a time-dependent manner. Similarly, all the crude extracts showed significant (p < 0.05) effects against pain centrally and peripherally compared to the standard drug morphine (2 mg/kg bw) and diclofenac sodium (50 mg/kg bw). Moreover, the methanol extract (400 mg/kg bw) manifested anti-diarrheal efficacy by inhibiting 72.0 % of the diarrheal episode in mice compared to the standard drug loperamide (inhibition = 80.0%). The results of the computational investigations corroborated existing in-vivo findings. Greater or close to equivalent binding affinity to the active binding sites of kappa opioid receptor, glucose transporter 3 (GLUT 3), and cyclooxygenase 2 was indicative of the potential anti-diarrheal, hypoglycemic, and analgesic characteristics of the isolated compounds (COX-2). Moreover, anticancer and antimicrobial potentiality was also found impressive through evaluation of binding affinity with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) receptors. Results from this study indicated that C. fistula might be a beneficial natural resource for treating diarrhea, hyperglycemia, and pain. However, additional research is required to conduct a comprehensive phytochemical screening and establish precise action mechanisms of the crude extract or the plant-derived compounds.
Isolation and Analysis of Methanol Extract of Leaf of Senna siamea

Abstract:This study aimed at isolation and characterization of biochemical constituents of the leaf extract of Senna siamea. The fresh leaves of Senna siamea were air-dried, pulverized and extracted using methanol by maceration method. The extract was screened for phytochemicals using standard methods. Fifty grammas (50 g) of the crude extract was defatted using n-hexane; 20 g was subjected to column chromatographic (CC) analysis using ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions with similar retardation factor (Rf) were pooled and coded. Subsequently purification of fraction SSM5 was carried out using CC with solvent [Toluene and n-butanol (4:1) as mobile phase]. The collection was based on colour bands) and TLC was carried out where a sub-fraction SSM54 amongst other fractions gave a single spot on TLC and the Rf value was 0.71. It was then subjected to UV, IR and GC-MS analysis. The extract by maceration yielded 12.60% w/w and the defatted extract yielded 10.0% w/w. The result of the UV-visible gave a wavelength of 289 nm and an absorbance of 4.268. The result of infrared spectroscopy revealed functional groups thus O-H, N-H, C-H stretching group at 3385.8 cm-1, -CHO at 2955.8 cm-1, -CHO stretching at 2926.0 cm-1,-NH3+ at 1640.0 cm-1, carboxylate ion–CO2- for amino acid at 1449.9cm-1, -N=N- at 1401.5 cm-1, -N+O-=N- at 1315.8 cm-, C-O-C at 1189 cm-1, Si-O at 1084 cm-1 and S=O at 1013.8. The GC-MS analysis of SSM54 revealed the presence of Diisoctyl phthalate, Purine-2,6-dione, 8-(3-Ethoxypropylamino)-1,3-dimethyl-3, 9-dihydro-, a-Pinene, 10-(dimethylaminomethyl), 1H-indene-2-ethanamine, N, N- dimethyl-3-[1-(2-pyrindinyl) ethyl] -, Benzene, 1, 2- bis(2,5 dimethylphenylaminomethyl)-3,6- dimethyl- and Cinnamic acid, p-(trimethylsiloxy)-, methyl ester were among the probable bioactive compounds.
Cassia angustifolia Vahl. Leaves: Determination of Total Phenolic and Sennoside Contents of Different Fractions in Comparison with Their α- Glucosidase and Tyrosinase Inhibitory Effects

Abstract:Background: Cassia angustifolia Vahl. (Senna) is a medicinal plant containing anthraquinone compounds such as sennoside. Senna is primarily valued for its laxative properties. In Persian medicine, this plant has been also used to treat various disorders such as diabetes and skin hyperpigmentation. Previous studies have shown that different species of senna, such as C. articulata, C. alata, C. Siamea, C. Surattensis inhibit alpha-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. To the best of our knowledge, no previous evidence is available on tyrosinase and α-glucosidase inhibitory effects of the extract and different fractions of C. angustifolia leaves. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of the methanol-water extract and different fractions (hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and remaining crude extract) of senna against tyrosinase and α-glucosidase and to investigate their total phenolic and sennoside B contents. Results: Our findings depicted that the methanol-water extract and fractions had no significant anti-tyrosinase activity; however, some fractions were active toward α-glucosidase. The hexane fraction and the remaining crude extract demonstrated the highest inhibition on α-glucosidase compared to acarbose (positive control). In addition, the ethyl acetate fraction contains high phenolic and hydroxy anthraquinone derivatives based on the amount of sennoside B contents equivalent to 382.25 μg/mL of gallic acid and 1.525% of sennoside B, respectively. Moreover, no correlation was observed between the phenolic and sennoside contents of different fractions and their α-glucosidase inhibitory effect. Conclusions: Considering the α-glucosidase inhibition results, the hexane fraction of C. angustifolia can be a valuable fraction for in vitro and in vivo antidiabetic studies as well as further phytochemical studies. Further studies to identify the active substances and the exact mechanism of the bioactive ingredients on the inhibitory effects of α-glucosidase can provide promising results in the future.

Abstract:Cassia buds, the immature fruits of Cinnamomum cassia (Lauraceae), are widely consumed as a food spice, dietary supplements, flavoring agents, and preservatives. In this study, cassia buds were phytochemically investigated for the first time, leading to the isolation of 2 new sesquiterpenoids (1 and 2) and 10 known sesquiterpenoids (3-12). Their structures were determined by spectrometric and spectroscopic analyses, including nuclear magnetic resonance, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and circular dichroism. Cinnamosim A (1) represents the ninth example of the rare cyperane-type sesquiterpenoids. All of the compounds (1-12) isolated from cassia buds were evaluated for antimicrobial activities, with compounds 1-3, 5-8, 11, and 12 exhibiting strong antimicrobial activities against Candida albicans and compounds 6, 7, and 11 showing moderate antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The present investigation indicated that sesquiterpenoids from cassia buds might be used as potential antimicrobial agents to preserve food.

Abstract:Abstract The genus Cassia and Senna have been classified under subfamily Caesalpinioideae of family Fabaceae (Leguminosae) of order Fabales. There is a scarce taxonomical studies of the genus Cassia and Senna inhabiting Egyptian environments, thus, the main objective of the current was to revise and authenticate the phylogenetic relationship between studied taxa of the species of the genera Cassia and Senna in Egypt using the recent tools of ITS barcoding, RAPD analysis and metabolic profiling, in comparing to the traditional taxonomical features. From the cluster analysis of the traditional 27 morphological characters, the studied taxa were categorized into two major clades with an average taxonomic distance of 4.3. The clade I include Cassia fistula, C. renigera , C. javanica L subsp. nodosa and C. roughiia that belongs to series Obolospermae, and C. grandis that belongs to series Grandes. The clade (II) includes Senna surattensis and S. alata at taxonomic level 3.6. The taxonomical description of the studied taxa was confirmed from the molecular analysis of ITS sequences and RAPD analysis. The ITS sequences of the tested plants species C. fistula L, C. grandis MD4, C. javanica subsp. nodosa MD7, C. roxburghii MD5, C. renigera MD5 were deposited at genbank with accession numbers MW367973, MZ960447, MW386305, MW326753 and MW32685, respectively. While, the ITS sequences of the S. surrattensis and S. alata were deposited into genbank accession # MD14 MW367670 and MD20 MW412635, respectively. Thus, from the molecular analysis, two clades were clearly separated into Clade I of Cassia and Clade II of Senna . The cluster I represented by C. fistula , C. renigera , C. roxburghii , and C. javanica sub nodosa, and the cluster II represented by S. alata and S. surattensis. From the PCA of RAPD, a clearly discrimination between the two Taxa was observed revealing the characteristic grouping of Cassia and Senna . The species Senna alata and Senna surattensis were grouped together, but the species of C. renigera , C. javanica, C. roxburghii and C. grandis was grouped on a distinct group. The separation of Cassia and Senna species into two clusters verify the segregation of the genus Cassia L. senso lato into two distinct genera namely Senna P. and Cassia L. The morphological, molecular traits of the studied plants were authenticated from the metabolic profiling by GC-MS analysis. Among the 23 identified metabolites, four compounds namely hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester, 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z)-ethyl ester and Vitamin E were detected with fluctuated concentrations, among C. fistula, C. grandis , C. javanica subsp. nodosa and C. roxburghii. Conclusively, the traditional morphological features, molecular barcoding using ITS sequences, RAPD analysis and metabolic traits by GC-MS analysis, authenticates the taxonomical diversity of the genus Cassia and Senna .

Abstract:Objective:To study the chemical constituents in Cassia Bark.Methods:Silica gel,ODS,Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC were used to isolate and purify the compounds of Cassia Bark.The structures of the compounds were identified on the basis of their physicochemical properties,spectroscopic data,and with the literature.Results:Seven compounds were isolated from the Cassia Bark including (-)-secoisolariciresinol (1),(-)-isolariciresinol (2),Erythro-1-C-syringylglycerol (3),(-)-gynuraone (4),zhebeiresinol (5),coniferyl aldehyde (6),cinnamic acid (7).Conclusion:Com-pounds 1 ~3 were isolated from Cassia Bark for the first time.Compounds 4 ~5 were obtained from this genus plants for the first time.
Exploring Cassia mimosoïdes as a promising natural source of steroids with potent anti-cancer, urease inhibition, and antimicrobial properties

Abstract:The genus Cassia is a rich source of physiologically active secondary metabolites, including a novel compound named 21-methylene-24-ethylidene lophenol, alongside 15 known compounds. These compounds were characterized using different spectroscopic techniques. They exhibited promising antimicrobial activity, particularly against bacteria causing gastrointestinal infections. Compound 1 showed strong anti-bacterial activity against H. pylori and S. aur with MIC values of 0.28 and 0.12 μg mL −1 respectively. The study investigated their impact on H. pylori , a contributor to ulcer development, by inhibiting the urease enzyme. Inhibiting urease can reduce H. pylori 's pathogenic potential, evident from the fact that the compounds evaluated toward urease enzyme showed higher inhibitory activity (1.024 ± 0.43 <ic 50 > 6.678±0.11 μM) compared to standard thiourea (IC 50 = 18.61 ± 0.11 μM). Molecular docking studies confirmed their inhibitory action, with compound 7 notably outperforming thiourea in inhibiting urease (−6.95 kcal mol −1 vs. −3.13 kcal mol −1 ). Additionally, these compounds showed positive effects on liver functioning, which H. pylori can impair. Compound 9 shows the best response against human HepG2 liver cancer cell lines i.e. , % viability is 14.47% ± 0.69 and IC 50 is 7.8 μM ± 0.21. These compounds hold potential as lead compounds for addressing gastrointestinal and liver disorders caused by H. pylori .</ic

Abstract:Sennoside A (SA) is a natural dianthrone glycoside mainly from medicinal plants of Senna and Rhubarb, and used as a folk traditional irritant laxative and slimming health food. Accumulating evidences suggest that SA possesses numerous pharmacological properties, such as laxative, anti-obesity, hypoglycemic, hepatoprotective, anti-fibrotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-neurodegenerative activities. These pharmacological effects lay the foundation for its potential application in treating a variety of diseases. However, numerous published studies suggest that a long-term use of SA in large doses may have some adverse effects, including the occurrence of melanosis coli and carcinogenesis of colon cancer, thereby limiting its clinical use. It remains to be established whether SA or its metabolites are responsible for the pharmacological and toxicity effects. In this review, the latest advances in the pharmacology, toxicology, and metabolism of SA were summarizedbased on its biological characteristics and mechanism.

Abstract:Two new cassane diterpenoids, sucupiranin MN ( 1 ) and sucupiranin ML ( 2 ), together with two known compounds sucutinirane C ( 3 ) and deacetylsucutinirane C ( 4 ) were isolated from the seed kernels of Caesalpinia sinensis . Their structures were elucidated by means of analysis of comprehensive spectroscopic data, especially HRESIMS and 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy. Compounds 1–4 are typical furan-type cassane derivatives with an aromatized C ring. Biological evaluation revealed that compounds 1–4 at the concentration of 10 μM could inhibit the overproduction of NO in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages.

Abstract:A new phenolic glycoside (1), named methyl 2-phenylpropanoate-2-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D–glucopyranoside, was isolated from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia, along with three known phenolic glycosides and four known lignan glycosides. The structure of 1 was elucidated by extensive interpretation of spectroscopic data and chemical method. Selected compounds were evaluated for their immunosuppressive activities against murine lymphocytes. Compounds 1, 2, 6 and 8 exhibited differential inhibition against ConA-induced T cells proliferation.

Abstract:Two new C23-steroids derivatives, cyclocitrinoic acid A (1) and cyclocitrinoic acid B (2), and a new isocoumarin metabolite, (3R,4S)-6,8-dihydroxy-3,4,5-trimethyl-7-carboxamidelisocoumarin (10), together with 12 known compounds (3–9, 11–15) were isolated from the mangrove-sediment fungus Penicillium sp. SCSIO 41429. The structures of the new compounds were comprehensively characterized by 1D and 2D NMR, HRESIMS and ECD calculation. All isolates were evaluated for pancreatic lipase (PL) inhibitory and antioxidant activities. The biological evaluation results revealed that compounds 2, 14 and 15 displayed weak or moderate inhibition against PL, with IC50 values of 32.77, 5.15 and 2.42 μM, respectively. In addition, compounds 7, 12 and 13 showed radical scavenging activities against DPPH, with IC50 values of 64.70, 48.13, and 75.54 μM, respectively. In addition, molecular docking results indicated that these compounds had potential for PL inhibitory and antioxidant activities, which provided screening candidates for antioxidants and a reduction in obesity.

Abstract:Three new compounds, including two new diterpenoids, named epianhydrocinnzeylanol (1) and cinnacasiol H (2), and one hydroxylasiodiplodin, (3R,4S,6R)-4,6-dihydroxy-de-O-methyllasiodiplodin (3), together with five known diterpenoids (4–8) and two known phenolic glycosides (9–10) were isolated from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and comparison of the chemical shift values with those of related known compounds. The anti-inflammatory activities of the isolates were evaluated on nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 microglial cells and the compounds showed weak inhibition activities.

Abstract:Comprehensive Summary Eighteen diterpenoids were isolated from the seeds of Caesalpinia mimosoides , including four extremely infrequent cassane diterpenes, together with nine new and five known structures. Compounds 7 and 8 represent the first examples of cassane diterpenoids fused with a ketone carbonyl and a ternary oxygen ring at C‐4, respectively. Compounds 9 and 10 possess a rare five‐member ring in cassane diterpenes. Intriguingly, these isolated components are a clue to the fact that there are lower and higher levels in the plant secondary metabolites, demonstrating the evolution of secondary metabolism of C. mimosoides . All the isolated compounds were tested for their anti‐renal fibrosis activity against TGF‐ β 1 induced NRK‐52E cell model. The mRNA levels of fibrosis marker α ‐SMA, E‐cadherin, Collagen I were tested by qRT‐PCR. The data showed compounds 6 and 9 exhibited the best anti‐renal fibrosis activity and provided preliminary structure−activity relationships.

Abstract:Cassia angustifolia Vahl, a chief source of anthraquinone glycosides (sennosides), extensively employed as a laxative is also reported to possess significant anticancerous activity against various cancer cell lines. HPLC analysis of different in vivo plant parts viz., leaves, nodes, roots and seeds revealed that the maximum content of both sennoside A (3816.10 µg/g fresh wt.) and sennoside B (646.74 µg/g fresh wt.) occur in leaf. Elicitation in sennoside content in leaf callus therefore, was achieved employing organic elicitors (glycine, myo-inositol, glutamine, proline, yeast extract, casein hydrolysate and sucrose) as well as precursors (α-keto glutaric acid and pyruvic acid) of anthraquinone pathway. Though there was enhancement at all levels of stress, the optimum elicitation in sennoside A and B was seen at 0.1 % pyruvic acid, their respective percentages being 16 and 32 %. Overall improvement in sennoside A and B content was seen in the order: pyruvic acid > α-keto-glutaric acid > sucrose > yeast extract > glycine > myo-inositol > proline > casein hydrolysate > glutamine. Most importantly, isochorismate synthase (ics), the key enzyme gene involved in the anthraquinone biosynthetic pathway has also been cloned from leaf and sequenced which comprised of 1377 bp. Neighbor joining tree generated through MEGA6 analysis of the nucleotide sequences revealed varied degree of homology with the ics gene sequences of Morus notabilis, Medicago truncatula, Solanum lycopersicum, Cicer arietinum, Glycine max, etc. This is the first report of elicitation of sennoside A and B from leaf callus cultures and cloning of ics gene in C. angustifolia.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Various column chromatography, such as silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS, and semi-preparative HPLC was used to isolate and purify the chemical constituents from Cinnamomum cassia. The structures were determined on the basis of NMR and MS spectral data analysis, together with the comparison with literature data. Fifteen compounds were isolated from the 85% aqueous ethanol extract of C. cassia, and their structures were identified as (2R, 3R)-5,7,3',4'-tetramethoxyflavan-3-ol( 1), (2R, 3R)-5,7-dimethoxy-3',4'-methylenedioxyflavan-3-ol (2), coumarin (3), cinnamic acid (4), (E)-2-hydroxy-phenylpropionic acid cinnamoyl ester (5), 3, 3', 4, 4'-tetrahydroxy biphenyl (6), methylstictic acid (7), epi-boscialin (8), (1R,2S,3S,4S)-2,3-epoxy-1, 4-dihydroxy-5-methyl-5-cyelohexene (9), 4,5-dihydroxy-3-methyl cyclohex-2-enone (10), cis-4-hydroxymellein (11), and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxyl-cinnamaldehyde (12). Compounds 5-11 were obtained from this genus plants for the first time.

Abstract:Mali was affected by the drought across the Sahel in 1983-1985. The present study describes the demographic and nutritional status in the Timbuktu region in May 1985, and contributes to the little data available for Mali during this period; malnutrition rates are compared to two other drought affected areas in the Sahel. Sixty cluster samples were selected by proportional sampling methodology; thirty children less than 110 cm were selected in each cluster, to approximate children 'under 5 years'. Among the 1798 children 'under 5 years' studied, 28 per cent had weight-for-height less than -2 SD of the NCHS median. A total of 8291 persons were included in the demographic study. Nineteen per cent of the region's population emigrated during the year prior to the study; 40 per cent of all adult males were involved in this emigration. The annual Crude Mortality Rate was 39 per 1000 population. Measles vaccination coverage was 47 per cent based on vaccination card and 60 per cent based on history and card among children 12 months to 5 years of age.
MTT assay of human anti-breast cancer cells (MCF-7) in vitro potentials and phytochemicals screening of the root bark extracts from Cassia sieberiana

Abstract:Medicinal plant Cassia sieberiana root bark was investigated for phytochemicals and Anti-Breast Cancer cells (MCF-7) properties, using Chemical Separations and MTT assay in vitro . The C. sieberiana root bark was extracted with soxhlet extractor using different solvents based on polarity guided method and the respective extracts were concentrated under reduced pressure. These extracts were screened for their phytochemicals qualitatively using standard methods. Percentage Yields and Physico-Chemical Evaluation of the Extracts from the various fractions were recorded. The results of phytochemicals screening revealed the presence of some secondary metabolites of pharmacological significance in the Methyl acetate, MeOH and 70 % MeOH root bark extracts including Saponins, Quinones, Phenolic, Steroids, Tannins, Flavounoids, Terpenoids, Anthraquinones, Cardiac-glycosides, Alkaloids, Carbohydrates, Glycosides and Coumarins . Results obtained from MTT assay revealed that Extracts of MeOH and 70 % MeOH samples shown a certain degree of inhibition towards MCF-7 cell line. IC 50 were calculated using Graph Pad Prism 6 and results shown that IC 50 of 245.3 μg/ml and 239.6 μg/ml dose dependent inhibitions in MCF-7 cells respectively, compared to Oxaliplatin IC 50 of 38.04 μg/ml. Therefore, 70 % MeOH sample with IC 50 of 239.6 μg/ml have shown more potential of inhibiting breast cancer cell, MCF-7 cells line. The inhibition of the root bark is attributed to some of the phytochemicals present in the plant.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the methanol extracts from the leaves and bark of Senna siamea resulted in the isolation of one new flavone C -glycoside: apigenin-8- C -[6''- (E)- feruloyl]- β - D -glucopyranoside] ( 1 ), together with sixteen known compounds including quercetin-3- O - α - L -rhamnoside ( 2 ), vitexin ( 3 ), isovitexin ( 4 ), quercetin-3- O - β - D -glucopyranoside ( 5 ), quercetin-3- O - β - D -arabinopyranoside ( 6 ), quercetin ( 7 ), kaempferol ( 8 ), methyl inositol ( 9 ), sucrose ( 10 ), betulinic acid ( 11 ), vanillic acid ( 12 ), stigmastane-3 β ,6 α -diol ( 13 ), aurantiamide acetate ( 14 ), robinetinidol ( 15 ), catechin ( 16 ) and epicatechin ( 17 ). The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of their spectroscopic (1 D and 2 D NMR) and mass spectrometric (ESI-TOF-MS) data. The methanol extracts, fractions and some of the isolated compounds were screened for their antimicrobial properties against five microbial strains. The methanol extract and the ethyl acetate fraction from the bark showed very weak antifungal activity against C. glabrata with the same MIC value of 128 μg/mL.
