Abstract:Z-scheme heterojunction research has become a hotspot in the field of photocatalysis owing to the strong oxidative and reductive capacity for driving photocatalytic reactions. In this work, for the first time, a Z-scheme ternary bismuth phosphate/reduced graphene oxide/protonated g-C3N4 (BiPO4/rGO/pg-C3N4) photocatalyst was fabricated for photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC). The optimal mass ratios of rGO and pg-C3N4 were confirmed as 1.2 wt% and 40 wt%, respectively. This Z-scheme heterojunction exhibited an enhanced TC degrading ability with an 80.0% of TC decomposition after 50 min simulated solar light irradiation, which was 3.3 and 6.3 times that of pg-C3N4 and BiPO4, respectively. Importantly, the internal electric field forced Z-scheme charge transfer of BiPO4/rGO/pg-C3N4 composites, possessing higher charge separation efficiency. The formation of the Z-scheme heterojunction was substantiated by radical scavenging experiments and Mott–Schottky measurements, and it was beneficial for the photocatalytic reaction by accelerating the charge separation and improving the redox ability. Moreover, rGO as cocatalyst could not only provide TC adsorption and catalytic sites but also further promote the charge transfer.
Direct Z-scheme ZnIn2S4@MoO3 heterojunction for efficient photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light irradiation

Abstract:It is of great significance to degrade antibiotics contamination by visible-light photocatalysis, however, exploiting photocatalysts with a strong visible light response, high efficiency, and stability remains a major challenge. Herein, a direct Z-scheme photocatalyst based on ZnIn2S4@MoO3 has been obtained, in which ZnIn2S4 nanosheets in-situ grow on MoO3 nanowire. The optimized composite exhibits good catalytic activity for the visible-light-driven degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl), of which the reaction rate is 25.8 and 7.8 times that of the pristine MoO3 and ZnIn2S4, respectively. The experiment results and density function theory (DFT) calculation revealed that the improved performance could be attributed to the Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism inside of the heterojunction, which can simultaneously mediate the direction of photoinduced charge migration, boost the charge transfer, and maintain the high redox capacity of photogenerated electrons or holes. Moreover, possible TC-HCl degradation routes are also proposed. This work could further motivate the rational design and synthesis of Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for removing antibiotics from the natural environment via visible light irradiation.

Abstract:Heterojunction catalysts offer promising potential for efficient and sustainable remediation of polluted environments. In this study, Z-scheme Bi 2 MoO 6 /NiFe layered double hydroxide (BMO/NiFe) heterojunction catalysts were synthesized using solvothermal process. The surface morphology, crystalline structure, and photochemical characteristics of the synthesized photocatalyst were analyzed by several spectroscopic and electron microscopy methods. BMO , NiFe and BMO/NiFe were efficiently utilized for tetracycline (TC) antibiotics degradation under visible light irradiation. The experimental findings suggest that the BMO/NiFe 15 heterojunction catalyst greatly enhances the TC degradation rate to 95 % under 300 W visible light irradiation for 120 min. The rate constant of 0.0219 min −1 indicates a rapid degradation process following pseudo first-order kinetics. Furthermore, the effect of active free radicals, the recyclability of the catalyst and the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of TC were proposed. This novel method opens up possibilities for creating advanced photocatalysts, which can effectively degrade TC in water bodies, addressing the urgent need for its removal from aquatic environments. The present work serves as a primary pathway to design and develop efficient Bi 2 MoO 6 -based direct Z-scheme photocatalysts with promising applications in simultaneous wastewater degradation with hydrogen evolution.

Abstract:The abuse of tetracycline and other drugs makes the water system accumulate with antibiotics and its metabolites, which generate threat to human life. Photocatalytic degradation was regarded as a crucial technology for the removal of antibiotic drug pollutants from water efficiently under visible light. In this study, a novel Z-scheme heterojunction was developed for tetracycline degradation and the mechanism was studied through preparing efficient photocatalyst Bi12O17Br2/(001)-TiO2. Unlike the traditional Z-scheme heterojunction, (001)-TiO2 acts as an electron syringe in this nanocomposite, promoting the special charge transfer and making the separation and transfer of electron hole pairs more efficient. At the same time, the stacking of layered structure increases the specific surface area than other bismush-based materials, which benefits the adsorption of pollutants and increases reactive active site. Results show that the degradation efficiency of BT5 catalyst for tetracycline solution could attain 99.76 % of TC in 50 min. Meanwhile, the BT5 catalyst still maintained a high degradation rate of 93.50 % after four cycles. This study suggested new design ideas for novel Z-scheme in antibiotic pollutant removal.

Abstract:The fabrication of step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction with superior redox capability has been emerging as a prospective strategy for environmental remediation. Herein, novel Bi2Sn2O7/Bi2MoO6 S-scheme heterojunctions have been fabricated via in-situ anchoring Bi2Sn2O7 nanoparticles on Bi2MoO6 microspheres. The optimized Bi2Sn2O7/Bi2MoO6 (BSO/BMO-6%) attains the highest reaction rate constant (k) in the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC, k = 0.0397 min−1), which is 3.62 folds higher than that of pristine Bi2MoO6. Such an improvement is originated from more exposed active sites, higher photo-excited charge separation efficiency, superior redox ability, and efficient production of reactive h+, •OH and •O2–. Besides, Bi2Sn2O7/Bi2MoO6 could efficiently degrade the TC antibiotic in actual water matrix. Significantly, the toxicity evaluation verifies the nontoxicity of Bi2Sn2O7/Bi2MoO6. Moreover, the degradation pathways of TC are determined and the toxicity of degradation intermediates is appraised by using HPLC-MS spectra and QSAR prediction. A possible photocatalytic mechanism over S-scheme Bi2Sn2O7/Bi2MoO6 has been elucidated based on experimental studies combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. This work offers new insights for the design of high-performance S-scheme heterojunctions for environmental remediation.

Abstract:Photocatalysis has been regarded as a promising technology for degrading organic pollutants in wastewater and producing hydrogen. In this paper, TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized to improve the visible light absorption of TiO2, which were further combined with Bi2O3 nanosheets to synthesize a series of 0D/2D TiO2 NPs/Bi2O3 nanosheet heterojunctions. The visible light induced photocatalytic activities of the as-synthesized TiO2/Bi2O3 heterojunctions were studied. The optimized catalyst TB-3 with 15 wt% of Bi2O3/TiO2 exhibited the best photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). The degradation rate constant k of TC over TB-3 was approximately eight times and 39 times greater than that of P25 and Bi2O3, respectively. Additionally, TB-3 showed the highest amount of hydrogen evolution, while that of Bi2O3 was almost zero. The enhancement of photocatalytic performances was ascribed to the improved visible light absorption and the Z-scheme charge transfer path of the TiO2/Bi2O3 heterojunctions, which enhanced the separation efficiency and reduced recombination of photogenerated charge carries, as evidenced by UV–Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), and electrochemistry measurements. The active species trapping experiments and the electron spin resonance (ESR) results revealed that ·O2− was the main active substance in the photocatalytic degradation. The possible degradation pathway and intermediate products of TC have been proposed. This work provides experimental evidence supporting the construction of Z-scheme heterojunctions to achieve excellent visible light induced photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:Practical application of photocatalysis is often challenged by some intrinsic issues such as recombination of photogenerated charge carriers, stability and separation, etc. Herein, bismuth decorated 0D/2D ZnFe2O4/Bi5FeTi3O15 (Bi/ZF/BFT) step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction was fabricated by an in-situ method. Due to the advantages of structure and composition, the Bi/ZF/BFT with the desired proportion (Bi/ZF/BFT-35) exhibits favorable photocatalytic performance towards tetracycline (TC) degradation. Compared with the pure ZF, the nanohybrid shows superior stability after 5 times cycle tests. Moreover, Bi/ZF/BFT-35 is convenient to be separated from the reaction system due to its magnetic nature. As identified by ESR measurement, •O2 − and •OH radicals were involved in the photodegradation of TC, which supports that the S-scheme is successfully prepared. Also, the Bi/ZF/BFT-35 shows great ability of chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal in the practical wastewater as well. Importantly, antibacterial activity against E. coli test indicates that photodegraded TC has lower biotoxicity. The present work demonstrates that cocatalyst Bi modified ZF/BFT S-scheme can not only significantly improve its stability with good recyclability from the reaction system, but also inhibits the recombination of charge carriers, giving insight on the strategy of fabricating a promising photocatalyst for practical wastewater treatment.

Abstract:The construction of semiconductor heterojunctions is an effective strategy to improve the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of organic pollutants. Herein, ZnPc/BiVO4 Z-scheme heterojunction was synthesized via a physical mixing method and was used for the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light irradiation. Compared with BiVO4 and ZnPc, the 15ZnPc/BiVO4 sample exhibited improved light absorption capacity, and the electron-hole separation efficiency and redox capacity were enhanced due to the formation of the Z-scheme heterojunction. The 15ZnPc/BiVO4 composite exhibited an optimal TC degradation rate of 83.1% within 120 min. Additionally, 15ZnPc/BiVO4 exhibited excellent stability in cycling experiments, which maintained a high TC degradation rate of 79.5% after four cycles. Free radical trapping experiments indicated that superoxide radicals (O2−) were the main active substances in the photocatalytic degradation of TC.

Abstract:Antibiotics have been widely used in the past few decades, but they are difficult to be completely decomposed by organisms and nature. Semiconductor photocatalysis has been demonstrated to be one of the most promising and efficient ways to remove antibiotics from water. In this work, to address the aforementioned issues, two-dimensional (2D) n-type Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets fixed on one-dimensional (1D) p-type LaFeO 3 hollow nanofibers are designed and prepared by combining an electrospinning with a solvothermal method via semiconductor energy level matching engineering, thereby forming an effective direct Z-scheme p-n type 2D/1D heterojunction photocatalyst. The optimized Bi 2 MoO 6 /LaFeO 3 heterojunction photocatalyst displays the best-performing photocatalytic degradation rate of 92.31% for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) degradation under visible-light irradiation within 30 min. The excellent photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the broadening of spectral response range by the formation of direct Z-scheme p-n type heterojunctions, the large specific surface area of 2D/1D hollow nanofiber heterojunctions, the 2D/1D contact interface for fast carrier transfer channels and the internal electric field formed by direct Z-scheme p-n type heterojunctions. Importantly, this heterojunction photocatalyst exhibits broad-spectrum applicability, as it can degrade several organic pollutants such as ciprofloxacin (CIP), carbamazepine (CBZ), cefuroxime sodium (CRO), ibuprofen (IBU), bisphenol A (BPA) and methylene blue (MB) with degradation rates of 88.96%, 18.04%, 71.51%, 78.03%, 88.82% and 86.72%, respectively, in 120 min under visible-light irradiation. The preparative processes for the photocatalyst are optimized, the formation mechanism is advanced, and corresponding technology is established.

Abstract:The designation and fabrication of heterogeneous photocatalyst with superior redox capability is an important technique for emerging pollutants treatment. In this study, we designed the Z-scheme heterojunction of stable 3D-Bi 2 MoO 6 @MoO 3 /PU, which could not only accelerate the migration and separation in photogenerated carriers, but also stabilize the separation rate of photo-generation carriers. In the Bi 2 MoO 6 @MoO 3 /PU photocatalytic system, 88.89% of oxytetracycline (OTC, 10 mg L −1 ) and 78.25%–84.59% of multiple antibiotics (SDZ, NOR, AMX and CFX, 10 mg L −1 ) could be decomposed within 20 min under the optimized reaction condition, revealing the superior performance and potential application value. Specifically, the morphology, chemical structure and optical properties detection of Bi 2 MoO 6 @MoO 3 /PU greatly affected the direct Z-scheme electron transferring mode in the p-n type heterojunction. Besides, the ·OH, h + , ·O 2 − dominated the photoactivation process through ring-opening, dihydroxylation, deamination, decarbonization and demethylation in OTC decomposition. Expectantly, the stability and universality of Bi 2 MoO 6 @MoO 3 /PU composite photocatalyst would further broaden the practical application and demonstrated that the potential of photocatalytic technique in antibiotics pollutants for wastewater remediation.

Abstract:The efficiency of photocatalysts has historically been constrained by the suboptimal utilization of solar energy and the swift recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. To address this challenge, in situ growth of Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets on CuBi 2 O 4 surfaces to create a heterostructure has shown promising results. Our research focused on evaluating the degradation efficiency of pollutants by varying the proportions of CuBi 2 O 4 and Bi 2 MoO 6 . The experiments determined that the 0.2CuBi 2 O 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 mixture exhibited the highest degradation efficiency. During the degradation of tetracycline and rhodamine B, the 0.2CuBi 2 O 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 composites achieved more than 90% effectiveness, significantly surpassing the efficiency of standalone CuBi 2 O 4 and Bi 2 MoO 6 . This enhanced performance is primarily attributed to the heterojunction composition, which improves the migration efficiency of photon-generated carriers. In the degradation process, the most active species was identified as · O 2 − , with h + playing a supporting role. The 0.2CuBi 2 O 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 composites also demonstrated effective degradation in mixed solutions of TC and RhB. The material maintained its excellent degradation capability even after five degradation cycles, indicating its high stability. To elucidate the underlying mechanism of the CuBi 2 O 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 pn heterojunction photocatalyst, we conducted a comprehensive analysis using an energy band structure, free radical trapping, and electron spin resonance experiments. In addition, the degradation pathways and intermediates of TC were studied by LC–MS.

Abstract:Photocatalysts for the degradation of pollutants, including semiconductors and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), are currently limited by poor visible-light response, high carrier recombination rate, and finite quantum efficiency. In this study, we fabricated a new heterojunction using NaBiO3 and the MOF, UiO-67, by a simple electrostatic self-assembly method to achieve enhanced photocatalytic performance. Under visible-light irradiation, the NaBiO3/UiO-67 heterojunction exhibited better photocatalytic activity for tetracycline degradation than neat UiO-67 and NaBiO3. Its high degradation efficiency (88.6%) can be attributed to the efficient separation of photoinduced carriers, as evidenced by the results from photocurrent result, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and surface photovoltage spectroscopy analyses. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy indicated that h+, ·O2–, and ·OH played dominant roles in the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline. Liquid chromatography confirmed that, rather than being adsorbed, tetracycline was successfully photodegraded. Finally, an electron transfer mechanism for the generation of intermediates during tetracycline degradation was also proposed based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and keto-enol tautomerism. These findings demonstrate the promising application of semiconductor/MOF heterojunctions as photocatalysts for pollutant degradation.

Abstract:Photocatalysis is proven as a desirable technology for elimination of the tetracyclines pollutant from wastewater. Herein, a novel core-shell Z-scheme heterojunction In2O3@BiFeO3 was, for the first time, fabricated via facile hydrothermal method to effectively eliminate tetracycline in wastewater. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis spectroscopy and so on. The photocatalytic performance of the prepared samples was evaluated by photo-degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light. TC degradation results demonstrated that the as-prepared In2O3@BiFeO3 obeyed the pseudo-first-order kinetics and exhibited a higher photocatalytic rate of 0.01173min−1 that was approximately 2.97 and 14.4 folds those of the raw BiFeO3 and In2O3, respectively. Additionally, In2O3@BiFeO3 possessed high stability during five consecutive cycles. The core-shell structure and the photosensitization of BiFeO3 significantly improved light-absorption in the entire visible region. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the improved light harvesting and the effective separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs due to the formation of core-shell Z-Scheme heterojunction. Due to the well-matched band position of In2O3 and BiFeO3, •OH, •O2− and h+ all act as primary reactive species in TC degradation. This research provides a new strategy to construct the promising visible-light-driven photocatalyst for environmental remediation.

Abstract:Recently, visible-light-driven photocatalysis is of great interest in the environmental pollutant remediation. In the present study, a novel heterostructured photocatalyst AgI/BiVO4 was synthesized by an in situ precipitation procedure. The AgI/BiVO4 heterojunctions exhibited excellent photoactivity for the refractory pollutant (tetracycline (TC), a typical antibiotic) decomposition under visible light illumination. The synthetic sample with 1:4 mass ratio of AgI:BiVO4 possessed the highest photocatalytic performance in all of the as-prepared catalysts. The TC molecules were substantially eliminated (94.91%) within 60 min, and degradation efficiency was considerably better than those of bare BiVO4 (62.68%) and AgI (75.43%) under identical conditions. Simultaneously, 90.46% of TOC removal was also achieved within 120 min, suggesting that the mineralization was superior and further confirmed by three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy (3D EEMs). The XRD, XPS, DRS, and PL measurements revealed that a small amount of Ag nanoparticles was produced at the early photodegradation process. The structure transformation from AgI/BiVO4 (double-type) to AgI/Ag/BiVO4 (sandwich-like) improved the corresponding visible-light absorption performance. The self-assembly Z-scheme heterojunction that consisted of AgI, Ag, and BiVO4 also efficiently accelerated photoinduced electron-hole pairs' separation and ultimately improved the efficiency of TC degradation. The responsible photocatalytic mechanism was discussed in detail on the basis of the reactive species capturing tests and ESR analysis, and the experimental results had been validated that superoxide radicals and holes played a vital role during the photocatalytic process. Furthermore, TC degradation efficiency was not of significant loss after four consecutive cycles, suggesting the excellent photostability of AgI/BiVO4 nanocomposite. These features demonstrate that the AgI/BiVO4 heterojunction has great application potential for refractory pollutants' removal from wastewater.

Abstract:The use of heterojunctions with Z-scheme photocatalysts holds great promise for enhancing the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of antibiotics. In this study, we report the construction of a novel heterostructure by in-situ growth of the ultrathin polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) on the electrospun Bi 2 WO 6 nanofibers for improved photocatalytic tetracycline (TC) degradation under visible light. Our gas-solid reaction strategy enables the formation of uniform and intimate junctions between the PCN nanosheets and the Bi 2 WO 6 nanofibers, resulting in a well-contacted interface that remarkably accelerates the separation and transfer of the photogenerated charge carriers. The optimized PCN/Bi 2 WO 6 photocatalyst exhibits a significant TC degradation rate of 89.5% under visible light, which is 1.4-fold and 2.0-fold of the pure PCN and Bi 2 WO 6 photocatalysts, respectively. Our innovative design philosophy opens up a new horizon for the development of efficient Z-scheme heterostructured photocatalysts for antibiotic degradation.

Abstract:Enhancing interfacial charge transfer is a promising approach to improve the efficiency of photocatalysts. This research effectively exploited an Ag-modified Z-scheme TiO 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 heterojunction for photocatalytic degradation and disinfection under visible light. The catalyst was fabricated using simple hydrothermal and photo-deposition methods, and the characterization outcomes revealed that a built-in electric field (BIEF) was generated in the TiO 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 heterojunctions, which significantly promotes the separation of photogenerated carriers and increases light absorption efficiency. Besides, the theoretical calculation demonstrated that electron migration between TiO 2 and Ag resulted in a strong coupling on the surface, which serves as the foundation for driving photoelectric charge transfer. Furthermore, the TiO 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 /Ag-45 displayed 459% and 512% higher degradation efficiency of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) after 100 min compared to pristine TiO 2 . Moreover, the complexes wholly inactivated gram-negative Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and significantly inhibited the growth of gram-positive Staphylococcus albus ( S. albus ) after 200 min. Additionally, we have deduced the potential degradation pathways of TC-HCl and CIP and photocatalytic mechanisms. The research results provide an idea to solve the problems of limited light absorption range and rapid carrier combination speed of traditional photocatalytic materials, which is expected to be applied in the field of actual wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Solar-driven photocatalytic degradation undoubtedly represents a hopeful, sustainable together with effective alternative wastewater decontamination technology, however, exploiting highly efficient visible-light-induced photocatalysts for sewage remediation still exists a great challenge. Herein, a fascinating and unique AgI/Zn3V2O8 Z-scheme photocatalyst was rationally constructed by immobilizing AgI nanoparticles on the surface of flower-like Zn3V2O8 nanosheets using a facile precipitation approach. Multiple techniques were employed to uncover the structure, morphology, composition, optical and electrochemical properties of as-generated samples. As expected, the resultant AgI/Zn3V2O8 photocatalyst manifested greatly boosted the photocatalytic activity towards tetracycline (TC) degradation under visible light irradiation. Noticeably, the optimized AgI(20 wt%)/Zn3V2O8 photocatalyst displayed the largest removal efficiency of TC, which was around 2.1 and 2.5 folds higher than that of pristine Zn3V2O8 and AgI, separately. This improvement was due to the generated Z-scheme heterojunction between Zn3V2O8 and AgI with the intimate interfacial contact, which significantly promoting the spatial separation and migration efficiency of photoexcited charge carriers and maintaining the high redox potential at the same time. Furthermore, superoxide and hydroxyl radicals were identified as the main active species for TC degradation, and a possible degradation pathway of TC was also deduced. These findings may open a new avenue for reasonable design of high-efficiency Zn3V2O8-based Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for the removal of antibiotics from wastewater.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a new type of crystal materials, are considered a kind of promising photocatalysts. In this work, a novel Bi2S3/MIL-53(Fe) heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully prepared via a facile two-step method (hydrothermal and water bath). The characterization means, including XRD, SEM-EDS, FT-IR, XPS, PL, and UV–Vis, were employed to analyze the structural and morphological properties of Bi2S3/MIL-53(Fe). The photocatalytic performance of Bi2S3, MIL-53(Fe), and Bi2S3/MIL-53(Fe) was evaluated by the removal efficiency of the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC, 10 mg/L) under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm). The results show that the photocatalyst BSM-10 (the mass ratio of Bi2S3 to MIL-53(Fe) is 10:90) exhibits improved photocatalytic performance compared to Bi2S3 and MIL-53(Fe), showing the optimum photocatalytic activity (the degradation efficiency of TC is 90.9% within 120 min), and the corresponding first-order reaction rate constant is about 3 and 2 times higher than that of MIL-53(Fe) and Bi2S3, respectively. The improvement in photocatalytic activity is attributable to the efficacious separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and significant acceleration of charge transfer rate. Based on the free radical trapping experiment and ESR test results, combined with the band structure of MIL-53 (Fe) and Bi2S3, we speculate that a heterojunction is formed between MIL-53 (Fe) and Bi2S3, and the proposed Z scheme mechanism can well explain the enhanced catalytic activity of BSM-10. The Bi2S3/MIL-53 (Fe) heterojunction photocatalyst synthesized in this work has potential application value for removing the typical pollutant tetracycline from water.

Abstract:Water pollution has reached alarming levels due to the overuse of antibiotics, and photocatalysis is considered to be a green and efficient degradation technology for the treatment of water pollution caused by antibiotics. In this paper, a series of p-n heterojunction Bi2MoO6/Cu2O composite photocatalysts were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, XPS, UV–Vis-DRS, PL, and EIS. The photocatalytic activities of the photocatalysts were analyzed based on the degradation of two antibiotics under visible light illumination. Results showed a removal rate of 88% and 94% for chlortetracycline (CTC) and tetracycline (TC), respectively. The corresponding first-order kinetic curves indicated that the reaction rates were 4.2 and 7.9 times higher than those of the Bi2MoO6 and Cu2O monomers. The enhanced removal efficiency of antibiotics is ascribed to the improved light absorption and electron-hole pair transport channels, facilitated by the formation of p-n heterojunction within the catalyst. Further, a possible degradation mechanism was proposed. Finally, the intermediate products were analyzed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and a possible photocatalytic degradation pathway of CTC was proposed. Based on the present study and experimental observations, Bi2MoO6/Cu2O as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst is suggested to be a promising candidate for the removal of antibiotics.
