Abstract:Background: The epidemic of diabetes mellitus is one of the leading causes of mortality globally. Therefore, the goal of the registry is to create a database on individuals with diabetes mellitus that may be utilized to provide data on clinico epidemiological profile of Diabetes Mellitus in the real world. Methods: Data for this registry is captured at seven sites across India recognized by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). This is an observational multi-centric study, which registered around 25077 Diabetic patients over a period of 3 years (December 2023. Results: Out of 25077 patients, 12793 (51%) were male and 12284 (49%) females. There were 11443(46%) rural patients, and 13575(54%) urban patients. Most patients registered were over 50 years. Diabetes was seen as a burden for 46% of individuals and their families. Less than 40% of patients exercised. Over half of the patients had a family history of diabetes. This explains the exponential rise of diabetes mellitus over generations and the significance of preventing it. Conclusion: This registry revealed the impact of the clinic epidemiological aspects of Diabetes Mellitus on a larger number of samples. Future healthcare planners, researchers, and government officials will benefit from this diabetes registry in developing primary and secondary preventive initiatives that might minimize the rising healthcare burden of diabetes.

Abstract:This study aimed to compare the clinical and biochemical profiles as well as the complications in males and females with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) presenting to a private tertiary diabetes care centre in India. This is a retrospective study, conducted between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2019, and included 72,980 individuals with T2DM, aged ≥ 18 years (age and sex-matched—males—36,490; females—36,490). Anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), post-prandial plasma glucose (PPPG), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), lipids, urea, and creatinine were measured. Retinopathy was screened using retinal photography, neuropathy using biothesiometry, nephropathy measuring urinary albumin excretion, peripheral vascular disease (PVD) using Doppler, and coronary artery disease (CAD) based on the history of myocardial infarction and/or drug treatment for CAD and/or electrocardiographic changes. Obesity (73.6% vs. 59.0%) rates were significantly higher in females compared to males. FPG, PPPG, and HbA1c were higher among younger age groups among both sexes, with males having higher values compared to females. However, after the age of 44 years, control of diabetes was worse among females. In addition, only 18.8% of the females achieved glycemic control (HbA1c < 7%) compared to 19.9% in males (p < 0.001). Males had higher prevalence of neuropathy (42.9% vs. 36.9%), retinopathy (36.0% vs. 26.3%), and nephropathy (25.0% vs. 23.3%) compared to females. Males had 1.8- and 1.6-times higher risk of developing CAD and retinopathy compared to females. Hypothyroidism (12.5% vs. 3.5%) and cancers (1.3% vs. 0.6%) were significantly higher in females compared to males. In this large sample of T2DM seen at a chain of private tertiary diabetes centres, females had higher prevalence of metabolic risk factors and poorer diabetes control compared to males, emphasizing the need for better control of diabetes in females. However, males had higher prevalence of neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy, and CAD compared to females.

Abstract:High-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) therapy may cause acute myocarditis characterised by diffuse myocardial involvement and occasionally fulminant heart failure. Cardiac MRI (CMRI) provides a comprehensive assessment of myocardial function, inflammation and injury in a single examination and has shown value in the diagnosis of myocarditis. We report a case of a 54-year-old male with metastatic melanoma who developed acute severe myocarditis with fulminant heart failure after high-dose IL-2 therapy. CMRI using a combination of T(2) weighted imaging and T(1) weighted late post-gadolinium enhancement techniques played a key role in establishing the diagnosis. To our knowledge we present the first case report of the combined use of T(1) and T(2) weighted CMRI techniques to diagnose IL-2 induced myocarditis.

Abstract:Non-communicable chronic diseases, particularly Diabetes mellitus, a silent epidemic of this era, are rapidly on the rise in India. It is critical to devise strategies to ensure effective diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of the increasing disease burden. Given the lack of large-scale information on Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes mellitus, the pan-India diabetes registry is hugely pertinent to the Indian situation. The registry would be able to continuously provide data on real-world practices and standard of care for Diabetes mellitus in India. To ensure the correct blend in site selection, the centers have been chosen from different geographical regions across India with a combination of government and private sectors. All the sites will harmonize in terms of protocol, training, SOPs, and data management. This hospital-based observational cross-sectional registry will be carried out without any intervention. Patients who are known cases of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes mellitus visiting the outpatient departments (OPD) of all the seven Hospitals will be evaluated for eligibility and willingness to participate in future clinical trials after acquiring their informed consent or assent form (for minors). A common IT platform for entering and preserving registry data will be developed, which will enable us to establish a central database that could be utilized for future clinical trials. This will minimize the time and expense of setting up a Diabetes mellitus repository.

Prevalence and Awareness of Diabetic Retinopathy in Diabetic Patients Visiting Tertiary Care Hospitals in Central India

Abstract:Background Diabetes presents a significant and ever-growing burden worldwide, impacting populations across the globe. However, this burden is particularly pronounced in developing economies like India. The rise of diabetes in such regions can largely be attributed to two key factors: the increasing prevalence of overweight/obesity and the adoption of unhealthy lifestyles. Aim and objectives The study's objectives encompassed identifying patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through the oral glucose tolerance test and the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy (DR) among them, followed by classification based on the severity of the disease. Furthermore, the study aimed to evaluate the factors associated with DR among the patients, focusing on the duration of diabetes and age group, both of which were deemed highly significant. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted for two months in 2019 among 40 patients. The tests performed were an oral glucose tolerance test, ocular examination including slit lamp biomicroscopy, and fundus examination. The data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and Student T-test. Results About 42.5% of the patients were positive for diabetic retinopathy, of which 29.41% had mild NPDR, 41.18% had moderate non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR), and 29.41% had diabetic maculopathy. No cases of severe NPDR and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) were found. Conclusion Longer duration of diabetes corresponded to a higher prevalence of diabetic retinopathy. The frequency of diabetic retinopathy was higher in ages above 60 years. Diabetic retinopathy is a concern for patients with a long history of diabetes, high blood sugar levels, and unilateral or bilateral low vision. Thirty percent of the total were newly diagnosed diabetics. Timely screening of patients and intervention can go a long way in reducing morbidity or vision loss.

Abstract:BACKGROUND The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing quickly all over the world. In spite of effective treatment guidelines for type 2 diabetes, in majority of the people, the disease is poorly controlled with existing therapies. Glycaemic control is considered as the most important step for prevention of organ damage and other complications of diabetes. A study on the prevalence and determinants of poor glycaemic control can assist in understanding the expanse of this problems and the ways to address it. We wanted to study the prevalence and determinants of poor glycaemic control among adult patients with type II diabetes mellitus attending a primary health care setting. METHODS The cross-sectional study was conducted in the outpatient department of NCD clinic in a Primary health centre of Kerala for a period of six months. Two hundred and fifty individuals diagnosed with Type II DM for a year were recruited as study participants. The study participants were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire. Adherence to medication was assessed using The Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressures were recorded. HbA1c and RBS was measured using semi quantitative technique. Any patient with an HbA1c of more than 7 was defined as having poor glycaemic control. RESULTS 64.4 % of the participants had poor glycaemic control. Poor adherence to medication, fewer visits to doctor, lack of diet modification, frequent junk food consumption, higher body mass index and lack of exercise were found to be significantly associated with poor glycaemic control. CONCLUSIONS A focused approach targeting these modifiable risk factors, especially in primary care setting, has the potential to bring about better glycaemic control which can prevent and minimize the occurrence of diabetes complications. Abstract:Objective: Diabetes patients have a relative risk of cardiovascular disease development that is more than twice as high as non-diabetics. In individuals with type II diabetes, optimal blood pressure management & within-range lipid profiles (lower levels of LDL-C) offer cardiovascular benefits. Diabetes with coexisting hypertension, dyslipidemia, pro-inflammatory, & prothrombic states is an example of a metabolic syndrome that can lead to complicated pathological diseases involving several pathways. This EHR-based real-world study aimed to understand hypertension control in patients with diabetes and dyslipidemia in the Indian population. Design and method: The trial was open to patients with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) lasting at least 6 months who were presenting for regular treatment in 14 nationwide centers. Data on the patient's medical history, comorbidities, complications from diabetes, medicines, & laboratory results were gathered using an EMR (MEDEVA) integrated research format. The data extracted for analysis spanned from March to August 2022. Results: Of the total 821 elderly Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients, 45.3% had hypertension, and 16% patients had dyslipidemia. It is seen that dyslipidemia (81.7%) is higher in patients with hypertension when compared to the group without hypertension (18.3%). Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between hypertension control and dyslipidemia, & it was found that dyslipidemia is seen more among hypertensive patients than non-hypertensive patients.

Abstract:Introduction: Type 2 diabetes is a heterogeneous disease and its categorization into different clusters has revealed distinct subgroups from all over the world including India but no such study has been done till date in north India. Aims and Objectives: To identify clusters intype 2 diabetes mellitus by k means clustering and to describe different characteristics of patients in each of the identified clusters. Methods: Optimal number of clusters i.e., the K value was decided by two step clustering and the subtypes of the clusters were obtained by K means clustering using SPSS version 29 software. Variables which were used for clustering were age atdiagnosis, BMI, HbA1c, HOMA islet and HOMA insulin resistance (based on fasting C-peptide levels) along with waist circumference which has important role in type 2 diabetes mellitus physiology in south east Asians. Results: Total number of participants were 520, out of which 47.7% were males and females were 52.3%. The optimal number of clusters i.e., K = 4 was determined based on silhouette width. Using this K value K means clustering was done which resulted in formation of clusters differing in phenotypic characters. Cluster 1 severe insulin deficient diabetes (SIDD), Cluster 2 Mild age-related diabetes (MARD), Cluster 3 severe insulin resistant diabetes (SIRD), Cluster 4 mild obesity related diabetes (MOD). Phenotypically these clusters were same as defined by Ahlqvistet al in Scandinavian population. When compared with these Swedish clusters, MOD cluster was most common in our study population (37.1% vs 21.6%). SIDD cluster was more common than in Swedish study (21.3% vs 17.5%). In Swedish study MARD cluster was most common (39.1%) where as in our study it constituted 24.2% of patients. Conclusion: This study suggests that clusters in type 2 diabetes can be replicated in different ethnicities and highlights importance of including waist circumference in clustering in Asian Indians. Further studies are needed to look at differences in treatment response when treatment targeting the basic pathophysiological mechanism in different clusters is given to the respective clusters.

Abstract:Context: Diabetes has emerged as a major chronic public health problem throughout the world. Self-management by diabetes patients is very important for controlling blood sugar levels and preventing complications of diabetes. Aims: The present study was conducted to study self-management practices among diabetes patients and to analyse socio-demographic factors associated with them. Methods and materials: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 230 randomly selected diabetes patients in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The self-management practices were measured by the diabetes self-management questionnaire (DSMQ). Statistical analysis used: The association of the DSMQ score with socio-demographic factors and blood sugar level was analysed by statistical tests like the T-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, Tukey's honestly significant difference, and Chi-square test. Results: The mean DSMQ score of the diabetes patients was 29.55 ± 5.98. There was a significant difference between the mean DSMQ score and the educational level (P value = 0.009), residential status (P value = 0.037), and duration of diabetes (P value = 0.006). The subcomponent analysis of the DSMQ score revealed that the glucose management score of rural people (9.38 ± 3.36) was significantly higher (P value = 0.006) than that of urban people (8.32 ± 2.46), and the diet control score was significantly higher (P value = 0.02) in patients with normal post-prandial blood sugar (PPBS) (7.64 ± 2.18) than in patients with raised PPBS (6.96 ± 2.12). Conclusions: Higher educational level, rural background, and long duration of diabetes were associated with better self-management practices. The patients with normal blood sugar levels showed higher diet control scores than the patients with raised blood sugar levels.

Abstract:GENII-LIN is a new object-oriented interface for GENII, a well-known analysis tool for the health impact evaluation of accidental or chronic release of radionuclides to the environment. GENII-LIN has been developed under the Linux OS, chosen because it is a stable, reliable and open source. The suite codes that constitute the original GENII simulation kernel have been re-implemented and built, using the G77, the Fortran 77 module of the GCC collection. The code modules and the flow of data among them are at present fully controlled by a management interface written in C++, which is the core of the package. GENII-LIN comes with a new graphical user interface (GUI), built using the QT libraries by Trolltech. Through the wizard-like GUI, the user has full control over the code and can easily handle both the input and the output files.

Abstract:CONTEXT: Diabetes is a chronic illness that requires continuing medical care and patient self-management education to prevent and reduce the risk of long-term complications. It requires an array of investigations to provide an accurate picture of the condition and its management accordingly by a qualified doctor.AIMS: This study was conducted to understand the treatment received by type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients from various categories of health care professionals and awareness about diabetes reversal by lifestyle modification and prevention of complications.SETTINGS AND DESIGN: This was a community-based cross-sectional study.SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The link of the semi-structured questionnaire in Google form with e-consent was sent to all members in the selected groups of "World free of obesity and diabetes" campaign on their personal WhatsApp account.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: A total of 3082 participants were included, and the data obtained were analyzed using SPSS v26.RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 50.26 ± 9.78 years ranging from 18 to 81 years. A total of 35.8% of the study population was diabetic for 1-5 years. A total of 54.9% were started with antidiabetic medication on the same day of diagnosis. Only 1.5% of the patients had complete investigation profile for T2DM, 50.2% of the patients were briefed about hypoglycemia, and only 15.8% of the patients were checked for retinopathy.CONCLUSIONS: Most doctors, qualified as well as nonqualified, did not follow the standard guidelines for diagnosis, treatment, and patient education regarding T2DM; therefore, it is necessary to train all medical practitioners regarding these guidelines. Diabetes reversal by lifestyle modification must be prescribed as the first line of treatment in patients with T2DM.
Dietary Practices Among Type 2 Diabetes Patients Visiting a Non-communicable Disease (NCD) Clinic in a District of Western India: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Diabetes is becoming a major public health problem in the country. One of the most important lifestyle modifications necessary for diabetic patients is maintaining healthy dietary choices. These modifications in dietary practices are supposed to be followed lifelong, along with medication, for better glycemic control. Despite understanding the importance of dietary control and physical activity in the management of diabetes, adherence to these practices is poor. This study aimed to assess the dietary practices of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and various factors that determine adherence to these healthy dietary practices. The secondary objective was to find the perceptions of participants about the role of diet in controlling diabetes and to find the perception-practice gap among study participants.METHODOLOGY: It was a hospital-based cross-sectional study conducted among 450 T2DM patients visiting the non-communicable disease (NCD) clinics of tertiary care hospitals and community health centres (CHCs) of the study district. Dietary practice was assessed using a modified UK Diabetes and Diet Questionnaire (UKDDQ), considering the food patterns in the study area. Statistical tests like chi-square and ordinal logistic regression were applied using Jamovi software for univariate and multivariate analyses.RESULTS: The healthiest food choices were abstinence from alcohol consumption (100%), avoiding processed meat (92.21%), high-fibre breakfast (70.4%), and daily consumption of vegetables (68.2%). Improper dietary practices were regular sugary drinks (38%) and high-glycemic-index food items (22.4%). The mean (SD) of the composite score was 68.02 (8.7) and the median score (interquartile range (IQR)) was 69 (60-76). Tertile analysis of the composite score revealed that with the increase in age, patients were less likely to be in the intermediate or upper tertile score (β = -0.0219, p = 0.016). Being female (odds ratio (OR) =0.603, CI: 0.395-0.917, p = 0.019) and living in a three-generation family made the patients less likely to be in the upper tertile score.CONCLUSION: Nearly half of the participants had an overall healthy score. Dietary practices were healthy among the participants of lower ages, males, and those living in nuclear and joint families. The highest perception-practice gap was seen for fruit and rice consumption.

Abstract:Purpose: To assess the awareness of diabetic retinopathy among Type 2 diabetes mellitus from central India. Method: A cross-sectional study involving 350 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was conducted between August 2022 and January 2023. Participants completed a 21-point questionnaire on diabetic retinopathy awareness and knowledge. Results were expressed in frequencies and percentages. Results: 54.3% (190 participants) had awareness about diabetic retinopathy. Education significantly influenced awareness, with 72% of educated participants showing higher awareness. 66% of urban residents were more aware than 47.1% of rural residents. No significant gender difference was observed. Younger participants demonstrated better awareness (63.9%) than older individuals (17.3%). Conclusion: About 54.2% of the participants were aware of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). Younger patients, patients from urban areas and the group with a higher level of education were found to be more aware of DR. Effective health education and regular eye screenings are essential to improve awareness about DR, aiding in its prevention and better disease management among individuals with type 2 diabetes.
Mechanism of relaxant effects of nicorandil on the dog coronary artery.

Abstract:In order to search into the mechanism of the relaxant effects of nicorandil, a new coronary vasodilator, on the dog coronary artery, the effects of this substance on the potassium contracture were studied, and compared with those of nitroglycerin and nifedipine. All the three substances induced a dose-related relaxation (nifedipine greater than nitroglycerin greater than nicorandil). However, the increase in La3+-resistant 45Ca uptake was inhibited only by nifedipine. In a calcium-free EGTA containing medium caffeine induced a phasic contraction in the fully-depolarized preparation. Nicorandil produced an inhibition of this contraction, while nitroglycerin and nifedipine did not. It was concluded that nicorandil differs from the so-called calcium antagonists in the mechanism of relaxant action on the coronary artery. It also differs from nitroglycerin in that it produced an inhibition of caffeine-induced contraction.
Assessment of factors associated with poor glycemic control among patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract:Background: Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM) is a metabolic syndrome with multiple complications. All of those complications are directly related to glycemic control status.. Adequate glycemic control leads to less complications, morbidity and mortality. Aims and objective: The aim of this study is to access the factors associated with poor glycemic control in DM subjects. Materials and methods: This is a OPD based cross-sectional descriptive study conducted in Nobel Medical College and Teaching Hospital among adult DM subjects over the period of one year. A total of 105 cases with DM aged ≥18 years were included and clinical profile, laboratory reports were documented. Results: We found that out of 103 population 60 people (58.2%) had poor glycemic control i.e Hba1c >7% and only 43 (41.8) had good glycemic control i.e. Hba1c <7%. FBS and PP glucose was found to be higher in poor control group compared to good control and was statistically significant (p<0.001). Smilarly duration of DM was also found to be associated with poor glycemic control. Conclusion: FBS, PP and duration of DM was associated with higher Hba1c leading to higher prevalence of poor glycemic control. Age, sex, dyslipidemia, BMI, WHR were not found to be associated with poor glycemic control.

Abstract:Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. Epidemiological data in India shows an upward trend in the prevalence, with 32 million people suffering from DM in the year 2000 to 79 million in the year 2010 thus making India (1,2) the 'Diabetic Capital of the World.' DM is classied on the basis of pathogenic process into two broad categories- Type 1 and type 2 DM. Autoimmunity against insulin-producing beta cells causes type 1 DM results in total or near-total insulin insufciency, while type 2 DM is a diverse collection of diseases marked by varying degrees of insulin resistance, impaired insulin secretion, and increased hepatic glucose production. Over time, if poorly controlled, DM can affect multiple organ systems and is responsible for the morbidity and mortality associated with the disease. Diabetes related complications affect generalized macrovasculature and microvasculature of various vital systems leading to retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy.
Analysis of Prescription Pattern of Anti-diabetic Medications in a Teaching Hospital in North India

Abstract:Purpose: This retrospective observational study aimed to comprehensively analyse the clinical profile and treatment modalities of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who were treated at a tertiary care centre. Methods: The study included a cohort of 300 individuals who sought medical care at the hospital from January 2023 to January 2024. The analysis primarily examined parameters such as the mean number of anti-diabetic medications per prescription, the proportion of various categories of anti-diabetic medications prescribed, the predominant class and type of anti-diabetic medications prescribed, and the proportion of anti-diabetic medications prescribed from the essential drug lists. Results: The age distribution demonstrated that 52.0% of participants were above 60 years old, showcasing a substantial elderly representation. Gender distribution emphasized a male predominance at 65.0%, highlighting potential gender-specific implications in type II diabetes. The blood profile analysis of patients with T2DM revealed a range of values for key parameters. Fasting blood glucose levels ranged from a minimum of 101 mg/dL to a maximum of 359 mg/dL, with a mean of 180.01 mg/dl. The comprehensive analysis of anti-diabetic drug utilization, based on the total number of units prescribed, sheds light on the diverse treatment approaches employed for managing diabetes mellitus (DM). Insulin, comprising 31.3% of the total units, plays a pivotal role in glycemic control, with both regular and biphasic formulations contributing significantly at 26.3% and 9.3%, respectively. Among the 300 patients, the overall utilization of anti-diabetic drugs reveals that 38.7% of individuals are using a combination of insulin with oral anti-diabetic drugs, while 61.3% are relying on oral anti-diabetic drugs alone. The most frequently prescribed drug combinations for diabetes management include sulphonylurea with biguanides, emerging as the most prevalent combination with 22 occurrences. Conclusion: The study's findings contribute valuable insights into the socio-demographic profiles and anti-diabetic drug utilization patterns among diabetes patients.

Abstract:AIM: To assess the adherence to self-care practices, glycemic status and influencing factors in diabetes patients.METHODS: This was a cross-sectional observational analysis of baseline data from a quasi-experimental study conducted among 375 diabetic patients aged between 18 to 65 years at a major public tertiary care centre in New Delhi, India during February-September' 2016. The Summary of Diabetes Self-care activities measure was used to assess medical adherence in diabetic patients. Open ended questions were used to identify facilitators and inhibitors of medical adherence.RESULTS: Mean age of the study subjects was 49.7 ± 10.2 years. A total of 201 men and 174 women were enrolled in the study. Three hundred nine (82.4%) subjects were adherent to their intake of anti-diabetic medication. On binary logistic regression, education level below primary school completion and absence of hypertension comorbidity were found to be independent predictors of medication non-adherence. Sociocultural resistance was an important factor impeding outdoor exercise among younger women. Knowledge of diabetes in the study subjects was low with mean score of 3.1 ± 2 (maximum score = 10). Suboptimal glycemic control was found in 259 (69%) subjects which was significantly more likely in patients on Insulin therapy compared to those on Oral Hypoglycemic agents alone (<i>P</i> < 0.006).DISCUSSIONOur study found a large gap existed between self-reported medication adherence and glycemic control. This suggests the need for enhanced physician focus for diabetic patient management.

Abstract:Purpose: Weak care cascade of diabetes from the time of screening, diagnosis, treatment initiation and attainment of optimal glycemic control is a public health challenge particularly in resource limited settings. We aimed to assess the diabetes care cascade in India and its determinants in the 15-49 age group. Methods: We conducted a secondary data analysis of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5, 2019-2021), a nationally representative cross-sectional survey, including a total of 724,115 women and 101,839 men with mean (SD) age 30.6 (9.9) years. Results: The prevalence of self-reported Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in the sample was 2.14% (n = 14,116, 95% CI: 2.06, 2.21) of which 55.13% (n = 6990, 95% CI: 53.37, 56.88) were currently undergoing anti-diabetes therapy. The net prevalence of DM including both old and new cases detected on screening was 2.9%. Poor glycemic control was observed in 52.43% (n = 3506, 95% CI: 50.69, 54.16) of patients with DM on anti-diabetes therapy. Patients from the richest wealth quintile (aOR = 5.17, 95% CI: 1.93, 13.84) had significantly higher odds of accessing private health facilities, while female patients with DM were less likely to be on anti-diabetes therapy. Conclusion: The prevalence of self-reported DM in India has increased from 1.7% (NFHS-4, 2015-16) to 2.1% (NFHS-5, 2019-21) while more than half of existing patients continue to remain undiagnosed. Consequently, diabetes care cascade have major lacunae at every stage from screening to diagnosis, initiation of effective treatment, and achievement of safe blood glucose levels.
