Abstract:To evaluate the prevalence of high-risk HPV types among female sex workers and the general population in Huzhou, China.Cervical samples from the general population (n=292) and female sex workers (n=288) in Huzhou, China, were collected between April, 2008, and October, 2009. Demographic, behavioral, and clinical data were obtained by interview. Genotyping of the HPV L1 gene was done via a PGMY09/PGMY11 PCR-based assay, and the cervical samples were subjected to cytology analysis.The prevalence of HPV was higher among female sex workers (66.7%) than among the general population (19.2%). Among female sex workers, HPV-16 (28.8%) was the most prevalent, followed by HPV-58 (24.0%) and HPV-52 (20.8%). The percentage of cervical abnormalities was higher among female sex workers (20.8%) than among the general population (4.8%). Multivariate analysis showed that education level and condom use during coitus were significantly associated with HPV infection (P<0.05). HPV-16, HPV-58 and HPV-52 were the dominant types, and were significantly associated with abnormal cervical cytology (P<0.05).Female sex workers in Huzhou, China, were found to have a greater probability of being infected with high-risk HPV, and novel vaccines against HPV-58 and HPV-52 should be developed. Using condoms could reduce the risk of infection.

Abstract:This cross-sectional epidemiological study aimed to investigate awareness regarding human papillomavirus (HPV) and willingness for vaccination among college students with or without medical background in Guizhou Province, China. A logistic regression model was used for univariate and multivariate analyses of cognition to determine factors influencing willingness for vaccination. In total, 2,540 questionnaires were collected, of which 2,360 were valid. The medical and nonmedical groups included 737 (31.2%) and 1,623 (68.8%) individuals, respectively. The medical group had heard of HPV and its vaccines more frequently than the nonmedical group, with the former also having greater awareness than the latter ( P < .001). Females (1,325, 56.1%) had heard of HPV and its vaccines more frequently than males (1,035, 43.9%), with the former also having greater awareness than the latter. The cost, safety, and efficacy of the HPV vaccine and lack of knowledge regarding HPV and its vaccines were the main barriers for vaccination. The overall level of knowledge regarding HPV and its vaccines was lower in the nonmedical group and males than in the medical group and females. To help promote willingness for vaccination among the nonmedical group and males, strategies that deepen their knowledge regarding the HPV vaccine are needed.

Abstract:Objectives: To assess knowledge of HPV and attitudes towards HPV vaccination among the general female population, government officials, and healthcare providers in China to assist the development of an effective national HPV vaccination program. Methods: A cross-sectional epidemiologic survey was conducted across 21 urban and rural sites in China using a short questionnaire. 763 government officials, 760 healthcare providers, and 11,681 women aged 15-59 years were included in the final analysis. Data were analyzed using standard descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Results: Knowledge of HPV among the general female population was low; only 24% had heard of HPV. Less than 20% of healthcare providers recognized sexually naive women as the most appropriate population for HPV vaccination. There was high acceptance of the HPV vaccine for all categories of respondents. Only 6% of women were willing to pay more than US$300 for the vaccine. Conclusions: Aggressive education is necessary to increase knowledge of HPV and its vaccine. Further proof of vaccine safety and efficacy and government subsidies combined with increased awareness could facilitate development and implementation of HPV vaccination in China.

Abstract:Background In mainland China, HPV vaccines have been available to the public. However, only a few related studies among health care providers, as the key information providers, were reported although public concerns on HPV vaccines still exist. In this study, we aim to assess the knowledge of HPV, its vaccines, and attitudes toward HPV vaccines among the three most important groups of health care providers in Western China. Method This was a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study. Health care providers including obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs), pediatricians, and immunization service providers in Western China were investigated regarding their knowledge of HPV and its vaccines and their attitudes toward HPV vaccines. Results Of 1079 health care providers completing the survey, 1015 (94.1%) knew HPV infection is the primary cause of cervical cancer. However, lower knowledge levels of other HPV-related diseases were also found (43.2%). About three-quarters (74.1%) of practitioners interviewed would be willing to recommend HPV vaccination, which was found to be lower among the OB-GYNs (69.6%) and the pediatricians (73.2%). "Lack of relevant knowledge," "concerns on safety and efficacy" and price were the three most important concerns surrounding HPV vaccination. Conclusion The interviewed practitioners did not have adequate knowledge of HPV and its vaccines in depth. Education interventions are highly recommended to the health care providers, especially for OB-GYNs and pediatricians, to increase the coverage of HPV vaccination among the population. For the currently high price of vaccines, a future co-sharing mechanism between the government, the providers, and the individuals might be a solution.

Methods: We conducted two cross-sectional surveys in Fujian Province. The study cohort included 248 medical staff and medical students and 1001 community members. Descriptive statistics were used to identify the general demographics of the participants, along with their knowledge and attitudes regarding HPV and vaccination. Analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with willingness to vaccinate and willingness to recommend vaccination. Results: The level of HPV knowledge in Fujian province was found to be low, but more than 80% of participants would like to accept HPV vaccine. Medical staff had a higher willingness to recommend HPV vaccine than students (OR= 4.696, CI: 2.698-8.175), which may be related to work experience and acceptance of vaccine price but not to knowledge level. Conclusion: Knowledge of HPV in our community population appears to be lower than that in other regions in China. We suggest that a lack of knowledge may not be the main factor affecting the willingness to vaccinate, but we still needed to raise the level of knowledge about HPV to prevent misunderstandings. When the level of knowledge is high, education and per capita household income are not important factors influencing the willingness to vaccinate; only acceptance of vaccine prices significantly affects the willingness to vaccinate. Inclusion of the HPV vaccine in the national immunization program could help to alleviate public concerns regarding the vaccine to change present situation. Abstract:This study assessed the knowledge of 12- to 15-year-old male junior high school students of HPV and HPV vaccines and their willingness to be vaccinated against it. From March to May 2023, students from six junior high schools in Zhejiang Province were randomly selected to complete an online, anonymous, self-administered questionnaire. Of the 1786 students, 618 (34.6%) reported knowledge of HPV vaccine. In general, junior high school boys have low general knowledge about HPV, the consequences of HPV infection, and the effects of HPV vaccination. Multivariate analysis showed that the subgroup scoring 6–7 on the measure of the consequences of HPV infection(7 questions with 1 score for each correct answer) compared to the subgroup scoring 0, the subgroups scoring 2 and 3 on the measure of the preventive effect of HPV vaccine(3 questions with 1 score for each correct answer) compared to the subgroup scoring 0 were were more likely to be willing to be vaccinated against HPV. Hearing that someone close to them had cancer, believing that men also need to be vaccinated against HPV, knowing that someone close to them had been vaccinated against HPV, and being concerned about cervical cancer in their female sexual partners were all more likely to generate positive responses. HPV vaccine education for this group of students should emphasize the possibility and consequences of HPV infection in males, along with the importance and benefits of HPV vaccination; actual cases of vaccination in students around them can be used to achieve this goal.

Abstract:To explore women’s knowledge of human papillomavirus (HPV) and attitudes toward the HPV vaccine in Zhejiang, China, women attending the checkup clinics were invited to participate. A questionnaire-guided interview was conducted with a representative sample of 1490 women, and 1432 effective questionnaires were obtained. The authors found 39.1% of women in urban areas and 27.1 % in rural areas had heard of HPV, whereas 23.7% and 15.1%, respectively, had heard of the HPV vaccine. The mean score of HPV knowledge was 3.75 in urban areas and 3.18 in rural areas, with a significant difference ( P = .016). Of the sample who had heard of the HPV vaccine, the supportive mean score was 2.59 and 2.11, with a significant difference ( P = .003). Women with more HPV knowledge were more likely to support the HPV vaccination ( r = 0.50 and r = 0.61). The authors conclude that inadequate knowledge and misconceptions about HPV are common. Attitudes toward HPV vaccine are unsatisfactory. Education campaigns targeting different populations are needed prior to the introduction of an HPV vaccine.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to determine human papillomavirus (HPV)-related awareness and willingness to receive HPV vaccination among college students, in Wenzhou, and its associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted among college students in Wenzhou to investigate their knowledge, attitude, and factors affecting their willingness to receive HPV vaccination. Results: A total of 1035 questionnaires were collected, of which 1002 were valid (males: 374, females: 628). In total, 904 (90.2%) college students had heard of HPV, with a lower rate among males than females (85.3% vs. 93.2%, p < 0.05) and 693 (69.2%) had heard of the HPV vaccine, with a significantly lower rate among males than females (53.7% vs. 78.3%, p < 0.05). Overall awareness of HPV and HPV vaccine among males and females was moderate, with lower awareness among males. A total of 55.9% of males and 80.4% of females indicated that they would be willing to receive the HPV vaccine, a significant difference (p < 0.001). The price, safety of HPV vaccine, and lack of knowledge about HPV and HPV vaccine were the major barriers to HPV vaccination for college students. Compared to females, inadequate knowledge of HPV was the main barrier factor for HPV vaccination among male college students. Conclusions: The overall knowledge level of males is lower than that of females. For male college students, providing more knowledge about HPV infection is helpful to promote their willingness to vaccinate. It is necessary to promote HPV-related knowledge for male and female college students, respectively.

Abstract:The objective of this study was to investigate the parent cognition of information regarding the human papillomavirus (HPV) and their willingness toward HPV vaccination of their middle-school-aged children in Zunyi, Guizhou Province, China.The results provide a basis for improving the awareness concerning HPV-related information as a key vaccination strategy for implementing the HPV vaccine in the local context. Methods include the random cluster sampling method and questionnaires to survey parents. General descriptive and single-factor analyses were used to assess cognition to determine factors influencing vaccine willingness. Of 1,074 parents, 28.2% (302) and 38.0% (408) had heard of HPV and its vaccine before the survey, and when given HPV-related information, 73.9% (794) parents were willing to vaccinate their children. Reasons why parents did or did not want the vaccination were surveyed, with lack of sufficient knowledge about HPV and its vaccine being the primary reason to refuse vaccination. Concerns about safety, effectiveness, and perceiving low risk are the biggest obstacle in promoting vaccination. When the price is <1000, most parents (56.1%) are willing to vaccinate their children; thus, cost is also one of the concerns. Therefore, strategies for improving public awareness regarding the risk of cervical cancer and confidence in vaccination must be considered by policymakers.If the national authority confirms that the vaccine is safe and effective, the vaccine should be included in the national immunization program to increase publicity, address safety concerns, and allow for price regulation.

Abstract:The acceptability of HPV vaccination among university students in China is not well understood. Our study was of cross-sectional study design. We collected a questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge of, attitude toward and acceptability of HPV vaccination. A total of 351 students were included in data analyses, among whom 47.6% were males and 70.0% aged 19-21. Only 10.3% had previously heard of HPV and 5.4% HPV vaccine. Male and female students were equally likely to accept HPV vaccine (71.8 vs 69.4%, p = 0.634) and recommend it to sexual partners (73.1 vs 76.7%, p = 0.441). The great majority of students could only afford RMB 300 (USD 50) or less for HPV vaccination. HPV vaccination acceptance was associated with being in year-one (Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 3.78, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.12-6.75), being from a key university (AOR = 1.88, 95% CI: 1.07-3.31), having heard of HPV-related morbidities (AOR = 1.88, 95% CI: 1.05-3.35), being concerned about HPV-related morbidities (AOR = 2.23, 95% CI: 1.16-4.27) and believing the vaccine should be given before first sexual contact (AOR = 2.44, 95% CI: 1.384.29). Female students were more likely to anticipate a late uptake of HPV vaccination (p = 0.002). The relatively lower levels of HPV knowledge but higher levels of vaccine acceptance among undergraduates highlighted the need for education on the roles of sexual behaviors in HPV transmission.

Abstract:The limited access to vaccination and vaccine hesitancy are prevalent even among health care providers in less developed countries. This study assessed the relationships between (i) health care providers' knowledge on human papillomavirus (HPV) and vaccination for HPV and (ii) their perceptions, demographic characteristics, and the use of information sources. In this large-scale online survey, participants (n = 1394) were recruited from hospitals of three big cities in China (Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen). Descriptive analysis, the chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis were used to answer different research questions. Health care providers' overall knowledge scores are consistent with their perceptions about HPV and HPV vaccine. Occupation, specialty, the type of hospitals, and the frequency of participants' search for information using professional informational sources are the most significant characteristics that are closely associated with their knowledge of HPV and its vaccine. Targeted educational interventions are needed to improve health care providers' engagement in the promotion of the HPV vaccine. Such interventions, besides increasing knowledge, should also emphasize the importance of appropriate information sources to acquire information.
Prevalence of HPV Infection and Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Attitudes Towards HPV Vaccination among Chinese Women Aged 18–25 in Jiangsu Province

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:Few data are available on the epidemiology of HPV and cervical cancer among Chinese women younger than 25 years old. This study aimed to estimate the HPV infection rate and the prevalence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in women aged 18-25, as well as their knowledge of and attitudes towards HPV vaccination.METHODS:A population-based cervical cancer screening study was conducted on women aged 18-25 in Jiangsu province in 2008. Participants provided socio-demographic, reproductive and behavioral information and completed a survey about their knowledge of and attitudes towards HPV vaccination. Women then underwent a gynecologic exam to provide two cervical exfoliated cell samples for high risk HPV DNA testing and liquid-based cytology (LBC) as well as visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA). Women testing positive for any test were referred to colposcopy and biopsy. The gold standard for diagnosis of cervical lesions was directed or random biopsies.RESULTS:Within the sample of 316 women, 3.4% of them were diagnosed with CIN grade 2 or worse lesions and 17.1% were found to be positive for HPV DNA. Among these young women, extra-marital sexual behavior of them (OR=2.0, 95%CI: 1.1-3.8) or their husbands (OR=2.6, 95%: 1.4-4.7) were associated with an increased risk of HPV positivity. Although overall HPV awareness was low, after a brief educational intervention, 98.4% reported they would electively receive HPV vaccination and would also recommend that their daughters be vaccinated. However, most urban and rural women reported their ideal maximum out-of-pocket contribution for HPV vaccination to be less than 500 RMB and 50-100 RMB, respectively.CONCLUSION:Our study indicates cervical disease burden is relatively high among sampled Chinese women aged 18-25. Appropriate educational interventions for female adolescents and strategies to subsidize vaccine costs are definitely needed to ensure the effectiveness of vaccination campaigns in China.

Abstract:Infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections and causes virtually all cervical cancer globally. The recent development of two safe and clinically effective vaccines against HPV is a promising step towards lowering cervical cancer rates in the future. What Chinese women think about HPV and the vaccines remains unknown. We undertook a population-based survey, which was embedded in a cervical cancer screening project and was designed to assess women's knowledge about HPV and their acceptability to the vaccines. We found that only 15.0% of women in our study reported to have ever heard of HPV, and this knowledge differs by rural (9.3%) and metropolitan areas (21.6%) and also by education. Most (84.6%) participants were willing to be vaccinated if HPV vaccine became available to them. The present study documents ways in which women learn about HPV and indicates the potential barriers and success of introducing HPV vaccine to China.

Abstract:Introduction: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has proven to play a major role in preventing sexually transmitted diseases and related cancers among both men and women. However, the coverage of the HPV vaccination is still limited. Objective: The study aims to evaluate the awareness of HPV and HPV vaccine, as well as the willingness to take HPV vaccine, especially factors influencing vaccination willingness among male college students. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional investigation among male college students from six colleges in Jiangsu, China. A structured questionnaire was used to investigate the subjects' basic information, behavior habits, cognition of the HPV vaccine, and intention for HPV vaccination. Multivariate analysis modes were used to analyze the influencing factors of vaccine awareness and willingness. Results: We found that among 912 participants, only 24.34% of the participants had a "good knowledge" of HPV and HPV vaccine, and 34.54% showed a "positive attitude" toward the HPV vaccine after obtaining knowledge of HPV and its vaccine. Factors such as immune persistence, side effects, pricing strategy, and participants' self-assessment of HPV infection were the main factors influencing the HPV vaccination. Conclusion: Strengthening health education on the HPV vaccination and finding appropriate ways to solve the problem of "vaccine hesitancy" will be effective in improving the coverage of the HPV vaccine and preventing related diseases. In addition, the lifting of restrictions on HPV vaccination for men in China may also prove useful.

[Methods] Cross sectional study was conducted to investigate the women aged 15~54 living in Zhanlanlu Community,Beijing by epidemiological questionnaires. Cervical or vaginal samples were collected for HPV DNA test. [Results] One thousand and thirteen women underwent interviews,832 samples were tested for HPV DNA. The overall HPV positive rate was 15.38%. HR-HPV and LR-HPV prevalence rates were 13.29% and 3.25%,respectively. Infection rate for both HR-HPV and LR-HPV was 1.20%. Among the 1 013 subjects,30.7% of them had heard of HPV,51.78% knew that HPV infection is related to cervical cancer; HPV cognition rate is associated with age and educational level (P0.05). After educational instruction,75.91% of them showed their willingness to accept vaccination. [Conclusion] The HPV prevalence rate in women in Beijing community is comparatively high and so is the HPV cognition rate. Public health education is necessary to increase the awareness of the population and is essential to the introduction of HPV vaccine.
Attitudes toward an HPV vaccine for condyloma acuminata and willingness to undergo vaccination among STD clinic attendees in China: Focus on STI prevention with HPV vaccine

Abstract:Background: Condyloma acuminata (CA) is a common, and recurrent sexually transmitted disease (STD) that greatly contributes to direct health care costs and has a substantial psychosocial impact. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination (containing L1 protein for HPV types 6 and 11) effectively controls CA. Objectives: We investigated attitudes toward the HPV vaccine for CA and willingness to undergo vaccination among STD clinic attendees in China. Methods: Attendees at STD clinics at two selected hospitals in Guangdong and Jiangsu Provinces from May to September 2017 were requested to complete a self-administered questionnaire for this cross-sectional study. Results: The participants' median age was 28 years (IQR: 24.0-34.0), and the sex ratio was balanced; 63.5% were from Guangdong, 36.5% were from Jiangsu, and 44.5% had a history of CA. The vaccine acceptance rate was high among the participants (85.8%,235/274) to whom the HPV vaccine for CA was available, especially among those who had heard of CA (89.0%, AOR = 3.14, 95% CI: 1.29-7.63, p = 0.0114). 95 (34.7%) of 274 participants had a positive attitude toward the HPV vaccine for CA. STD clinic attendees who had heard of the connection between HPV and CA (AOR = 2.56, 95% CI: 1.31-5.00, p = 0.0060), had heard of the HPV vaccines or cervical cancer vaccines (AOR = 1.90, 95% CI: 1.02-3.54, p = 0.0444) and had ever proactively discussed CA or the vaccine with others (AOR = 1.95, 95% CI:1.00-3.79, p = 0.0488) had better attitudes toward the HPV vaccine for CA. Over half of the participants (52.5%) expected the price of the HPV vaccine for CA to be under $90. Conclusion: The acceptance of the HPV vaccine for CA was high among STD clinic attendees in China, and the participants' self-perceived knowledge of CA and HPV was associated with better attitudes toward the HPV vaccine for CA. Education to improve knowledge is vital for reducing vaccine hesitancy.

Abstract:We propose an optimal algorithm for the real-time scheduling of parallel tasks on multiprocessors, where the tasks have the properties of flexible preemption, linear speedup, bounded parallelism, and arbitrary deadline. The proposed algorithm is optimal in the sense that it always finds out a feasible schedule if one exists. Furthermore, the algorithm delivers the best schedule consuming the fewest processors among feasible schedules. In this letter, we prove the optimality of the proposed algorithm. Also, we show that the time complexity of the algorithm is O(M2 · N2) in the worst case, where M and N are the number of tasks and the number of processors, respectively.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Uptake and the Willingness to Receive the HPV Vaccination among Female College Students in China: A Multicenter Study

Abstract:Background: This study aimed to determine human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine uptake and willingness to receive HPV vaccination among female college students, in China, and its associated factors. Methods: An online cross-sectional survey of female college students across the eastern, central, and western regions of China was undertaken between April and September 2019. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to examine factors associated with the HPV vaccine uptake and willingness to receive the HPV vaccine. Results: Among the total 4220 students who participated in this study, 11.0% reported having been vaccinated against HPV. There are direct effects of indicators of higher socioeconomic status, older age (β = 0.084 and p = 0.006), and geographical region (residing in Eastern China, β = 0.033, and p = 0.024) on HPV vaccine uptake. Higher knowledge (β = 0.062 and p < 0.000) and perceived susceptibility (β = 0.043 and p = 0.002) were also predictors of HPV vaccine uptake. Of those who had not received the HPV vaccine, 53.5% expressed a willingness to do so. Likewise, social economic status indicators were associated with the willingness to receive the HPV vaccine. Total knowledge score (β = 0.138 and p < 0.001), both perceived susceptibility (β = 0.092 and p < 0.001) and perceived benefit (β = 0.088 and p < 0.001), and sexual experience (β = 0.041 and p = 0.007) had a positive and significant direct effect on the willingness to receive the HPV vaccine, while perceived barriers (β = −0.071 and p < 0.001) had a negative effect on the willingness to receive the HPV vaccine. Conclusions: Geographical region and socioeconomic disparities in the HPV vaccination uptake rate and willingness to receive the HPV vaccine provide valuable information for public health planning that aims to improve vaccination rates in underserved areas in China. The influence of knowledge and perceptions of HPV vaccination suggests the importance of communication for HPV immunization.

Abstract:Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the main etiological factor for cervical cancer and premalignant lesions of the cervix. The purposes of the present study were to determine the prevalence of type-specific HPV infections and the association of different HPV types with cervical dysplasia among women in Zhejiang province, Southeast China. Methods A total of 15,267 women presenting to a gynaecological outpatient clinic were enrolled in this study. Women were screened for HPV in addition to routine cervical cytology testing. Microarray hybridization and liquid-based cytology tests were used to detect HPV genotypes and cervical cytology, respectively. Results Based on the population attending a gynaecological outpatient clinic, overall prevalence of any 23 HPV type was 22.8% and multiple HPV infection was found in 4.0% of all the outpatients. HPV prevalence showed bimodal age distribution, with a peak (55.7%) at the ≤20 age group and a second one (35.5%) at >60 age group. In total samples, the five most frequent types were HPV 16 (4.4%), 58 (2.9%), 52 (2.7%), 33 (2.2%) and 11 (1.9%). Overall HPV prevalence increased with the severity of the cytologic result. Analysis through crude odds ratios (ORs) revealed that the cervical lesion risk of HPV-infected women increased to about 26-fold of uninfected women (OR 26.1, 95% CI 22.4 to 30.3). The five most risky HPV types associated with abnormal cytology were HPV 73, 16, 82, 45 and 51. Conclusions This study provided baseline data on HPV prevalence in women attending a gynecological outpatient clinic in Zhejiang province. Our data will supply guidance for the primary screening and vaccination program for cervical cancer in this area.
