Abstract:Let $(R,\mathfrak{m},k)$ be a Noetherian local ring and let $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. The main focus of this paper is to give positive answers for some long-standing homological conjectures over the idealization ring $R\ltimes M$. First, if $N$ is a $R\ltimes k$-module, we show that the vanishing of $\operatorname{Ext}_{R\ltimes k}^{i}(N,N\oplus (R\ltimes k))$ for $i=1,2,3$ gives that $N$ is free, and this provides a sharpened version of the Auslander-Reiten conjecture over $R\ltimes k$. Also, we give a characterization of the Betti numbers of an $R$-module over the idealization ring $R\ltimes M$ and, as a biproduct, we derive that the Jorgensen-Leuschke conjecture holds true for $R\ltimes M$. Further, we show that the true of Buchsbaum-Eisenbud-Horrocks and Total Rank conjectures over $R$ implies the true over $R\ltimes M$. This establishes particular answers for both conjectures for modules with infinite projective dimension, especially when $R$ is regular or a complete intersection ring. As applications of the idealization ring theory, we show that the Zariski-Lipman conjecture holds for any ring $R$ provided the Betti numbers of the $R$-derivation module $\operatorname{Der}_k(R)$, seen as $R\ltimes k$-module, satisfy the inequality $\beta_{n}^{R\ltimes k}(\operatorname{Der}_k(R))\leq\beta_{n-1}^{R\ltimes k}(\operatorname{Der}_k(R))$ for some $n>0$. Some implications regarding the Herzog-Vasconcelos conjecture are also provided.

Abstract:The notion of Burch ideals and Burch submodules were introduced (and studied) by Dao-Kobayashi-Takahashi in 2020 and Dey-Kobayashi in 2022 respectively. The aim of this article is to characterize various local rings in terms of homological invariants of Burch ideals, Burch submodules, or that of the corresponding quotients. Specific applications of our results include the following: Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a commutative Noetherian local ring. Let $M=I$ be an integrally closed ideal of $R$ such that ${\rm depth}(R/I)=0$, or $M = \mathfrak{m} N \neq 0$ for some submodule $N$ of a finitely generated $R$-module $L$ such that either ${\rm depth}(N)\ge 1$ or $L$ is free. It is shown that: (1) $I$ has maximal projective $($resp., injective$)$ complexity and curvature. (2) $R$ is Gorenstein if and only if ${\rm Ext}_R^n(M,R)=0$ for any three consecutive values of $n \ge \max\{{\rm depth}(R)-1,0\}$. (3) $R$ is CM (Cohen-Macaulay) if and only if CM-$\dim_R(M)$ is finite.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and $I$ an ideal of $R$. Assume that for all integers $i$ the local cohomology module $H_I^i(R)$ is $I$-cofinite. Suppose that $R_\mathfrak{p}$ is a regular local ring for all prime ideals $\mathfrak{p}$ that do not contain $I$. In this paper, we prove that if the $I$-cofinite modules forms an abelian category, then for all finitely generated $R$-modules $M$ and all integers $i$, the local cohomology module $H_I^i(M)$ is $I$-cofinite.

Abstract:Our purpose in this work is multifold. First, we provide general criteria for the finiteness of the projective and injective dimensions of a finite module $M$ over a (commutative) Noetherian ring $R$. Second, in the other direction, we investigate the impact of the finiteness of certain homological dimensions of $M$ if $R$ is local, mainly when $R$ is Cohen-Macaulay and with a partial focus on duals. Along the way, we produce various freeness criteria for modules. Finally, we give applications, including characterizations of when $R$ is Gorenstein (and other ring-theoretic properties as well, sometimes in the prime characteristic setting), particularly by means of its anticanonical module, and in addition we address special cases of some long-standing conjectures; for instance, we confirm the 1985 conjecture of Vasconcelos on normal modules in case the module of differentials is almost Cohen-Macaulay.

Abstract:Let $(R,\fm)$ be a local ring and $\fa$ be an ideal of $R$. The inequalities $$\begin{array}{ll} \ \Ht(\fa) \leq \cd(\fa,R) \leq \ara(\fa) \leq l(\fa) \leq \mu(\fa) \end{array}$$ are known. It is an interesting and long-standing problem to find out the cases giving equality. Thanks to the formal grade we give conditions in which the above inequalities become equalities.

Abstract:In this paper, we continue the study of cominimaxness modules with respect to an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring (cf. \cite{ANV}), and Bass numbers of local cohomology modules. Let $R$ denote a commutative Noetherian local ring and $I$ an ideal of $R$. We first show that the Bass numbers $\mu^0(\frak p, H^2_I(R))$ and $\mu^1(\frak p, H^2_I(R))$ are finite for all $\frak p\in \Spec R$, whenever $R$ is regular. As a consequence, it follows that the Goldie dimension of $H^2_I(R)$ is finite. Also, for a finitely generated $R$-module $M$ of dimension $d$, it is shown that the Bass numbers of $H^{d-1}_{I}(M)$ are finite if and only if $\Ext^i_R(R/I, H^{d-1}_{I}(M))$ be minimax for all $i\geq0$. Finally, we prove that if $\dim R/I=2$, then the Bass numbers of $H^{n}_{I}(M)$ are finite if and only if $\Ext^i_R(R/I, H^{n}_{I}(M))$ be minimax, for all $i\geq0$, where $n$ is a non-negative integer.

Abstract:We show that Iacob-Iyengar's answer to a question of Avromov-Foxby extends from Noetherian to coherent rings. In particular, a coherent ring R is regular if and only if the injective (resp. projective) dimension of each complex X of R-modules agrees with its graded-injective (resp. graded-projective) dimension. The same is shown for the analogous dimensions based on FP-injective R-modules, and on flat R-modules.

Abstract:We study ideals of Borel type, including $k$-Borel ideals and $t$-spread Veronese ideals. We determine their free resolutions and their homological shift ideals. The multiplicity and the analytic spread of equigenerated squarefree principal Borel ideals are computed. For the multiplicity, the result is given under an additional assumption which is always satisfied for squarefree principal Borel ideals. These results are used to analyze the behaviour of height, multiplicity and analytic spread of the homological shift ideals $HS_j(I)$ as functions of $j$, when $I$ is an equigenerated squarefree Borel ideal.

Abstract:Let I and J be two ideals of a commutative ring R. We introduce the concepts of the Cˇech complex and Cˇech cocomplex with respect to (I,J) and investigate their homological properties. In addition, we show that local cohomology and local homology with respect to (I,J) are expressed by the above complexes. Moreover, we provide a proof for the Matlis–Greenless–May equivalence with respect to (I,J), which is an equivalence between the category of derived (I,J)-torsion complexes and the category of derived (I,J)-completion complexes. As an application, we use local cohomology and the Cˇech complex with respect to (I,J) to prove Grothendieck's local duality theorem for unbounded complexes.

Abstract:The study of rings and modules with homological criteria is a cornerstone of commutative algebra. Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with identity (not necessarily local) and $\frak a$ a proper ideal of $R$. In this paper, a relative analogue of the theory of homological rings and modules is developed. We introduce the notions of $\frak a$-relative regular, $\frak a$-relative complete intersection, and $\frak a$-relative Gorenstein rings and modules. We extend some classical results by demonstrating some interactions between these types of rings and modules.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, and let $\mathfrak a$ be a proper ideal of $R$. Let $M$ be a non-zero finitely generated $R$-module with the finite projective dimension $p$. Also, let $N$ be a non-zero finitely generated $R$-module with $N\neq\mathfrak{a} N$, and assume that $c$ is the greatest non-negative integer with the property that $\operatorname{H}^i_{\mathfrak a}(N)$, the $i$-th local cohomology module of $N$ with respect to $\mathfrak a$, is non-zero. It is known that $\operatorname{H}^i_{\mathfrak a}(M, N)$, the $i$-th generalized local cohomology module of $M$ and $N$ with respect to $\mathfrak a$, is zero for all $i>p+c$. In this paper, we obtain the coassociated prime ideals of $\operatorname{H}^{p+c}_{\mathfrak a}(M, N)$. Using this, in the case when $R$ is a local ring and $c$ is equal to the dimension of $N$, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the vanishing of $\operatorname{H}^{p+c}_{\mathfrak a}(M, N)$ which extends the Lichtenbaum-Hartshorne vanishing theorem for generalized local cohomology modules.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a regular ring of dimension $d$ containing a field $K$ of characteristic zero. If $E$ is an $R$-module let $Ass^i E = \{ Q \in \ Ass E \mid \ height Q = i \}$. Let $P$ be a prime ideal in $R$ of height $g$. We show that if $R/P$ satisfies Serre's condition $R_i$ then $Ass^{g+i+1}H^{g+1}_P(R)$ is a finite set. As an application of our techniques we prove that if $P$ is a prime ideal in $R$ such that $(R/P)_\mathfrak{q}$ is regular for any non-maximal prime ideal $\mathfrak{q}$ then $H^i_P(R)$ has finitely many associate primes for all $i$.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring of dimension $d$. In this paper, we first show that some power of the cohomology annihilator annihilates the $(d+1)$-th Ext modules for all finitely generated modules when either $R$ admits a dualizing complex or $R$ is local. Next, we study the Jacobian ideal of affine algebras over a field and equicharacteristic complete local rings, and characterize the equidimensionality of the ring in terms of the singular locus and the closed subsets defined by the cohomology annihilator and the Jacobian ideal.

Abstract:Let a be an ideal of a given commutative Noetherian ring R which satisfies the condition of the first problem of R. Hartshorne in [ Affine duality and cofiniteness , Invent. Math. 9 (1970), 145–164]. In this paper, we prove that a also satisfies the condition of his second problem in the same article. We also provide an example to show that the converse statement does not hold in general.

Abstract:Let \fa be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring R and M a finitely generated R-module. We explore the behavior of the two notions f_{\fa}(M), the finiteness dimension of M with respect to \fa, and, its dual notion q_{\fa}(M), the Artinianess dimension of M with respect to \fa. When (R,\fm) is local and r:=f_{\fa}(M) is less than f_{\fa}^{\fm}(M), the \fm-finiteness dimension of M relative to \fa, we prove that H^r_{\fa}(M) is not Artinian, and so the filter depth of \fa on M doesn't exceeds f_{\fa}(M). Also, we show that if M has finite dimension and H^i_{\fa}(M) is Artinian for all i>t, where t is a given positive integer, then H^t_{\fa}(M)/\fa H^t_{\fa}(M) is Artinian. It immediately implies that if q:=q_{\fa}(M)>0, then H^q_{\fa}(M) is not finitely generated, and so f_{\fa}(M)\leq q_{\fa}(M).
