Abstract:Background: Patient satisfaction survey is a valuable tool to measure the outcomes of care rendered by hospitals. Outpatient department (OPD) is a very crucial area of any hospital services as huge number of patient's visits this area for clinical services. Information about quality of services in OPD will serve two purposes, i.e., identifying areas of improvement in the services offered and highlighting the need for corrective actions. Patient satisfaction is the key determinant for assessing the quality of patient care and is the desired outcome of every hospital. The present study was conducted to measure the levels of patient satisfaction and to ascertain any service gaps in OPD of a tertiary care teaching hospital, Mysuru, India. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted among 600 patients using a structured questionnaire for assessing the levels of patient satisfaction. Results: The overall satisfaction rate in this study was 97.2%, with major satisfiers being clinical care provided by doctors and nursing staffs and few patients were not satisfied with cleanliness of toilets and medications' availability. Conclusion: Patient satisfaction survey may be a good audit tool and it should be used to improve the standard of services. According to the patient's opinion, the study showed good satisfaction with respect to reception and registration services, physical facilities, doctor's services, nursing services, laboratory services, and pharmacy services. Few deficient areas are identified in terms of service delivery and the same will be bridged as early as possible to achieve universal patient satisfaction.

Abstract:Data on patient visits to the emergency room from all visits to public hospitals in Indonesia are always increasing from year to year. In line with this fact, the Community Satisfaction Index survey data conducted by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (2017) reported that hospital services have not met patient expectations or in other words the level of patient satisfaction is still low. This study aims to determine the influence of service quality factors consisting of responsiveness, tangible, empathy, assurance, and reliability in influencing customer satisfaction and to analyze customer satisfaction as a mediating variable on revisit intention in the Emergency Room (ER) at XYZ Hospital. This study used quantitative research and data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The target population of this study were all patients undergoing treatment in the emergency room at XYZ Hospital. Based on data for August 2022 there were 2,564 outpatients. The number of samples was determined as many as 200 samples. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) was applied in this study. The results showed that revisit intention was positively influenced by patient satisfaction in the emergency room at XYZ Hospital, and service quality had a positive effect on patient satisfaction. The practical implications of this research show that to maintain revisit intention in the XYZ Hospital Emergency Room, one must always listen to the voice of consumers, and have the ability to respond to every wish, expectation and demand of service users of health care facilities.
Patient’s Satisfaction With Dental Treatment Provided By Undergraduate Students Of The College Of Dentistry

Abstract:Backgrounds: The patient’s satisfaction is considered as a direct measure to assess the performance of clinicians and the clinics.The present study was, therefore, conducted to evaluate the level of patients’ satisfaction with treatment services provided by undergraduate students at the College of Dentistry, King Saud University. The main purpose of this investigation was to explore opportunities for further improvement in the BDS program as well as undergraduate dental care training at the College. Methods: Patients’ feedback was sought through cross-sectional research wherein a specialized questionnaire was circulated among all undergraduate clinics located at male and female campuses of the college. A total of 3200 survey forms were distributed among patients who were treated in the undergraduate clinics. The supervisors were requested to clarify any questions or ambiguity encountered by their patients in filling in the survey forms. The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions addressing all aspects of the patients’ care. Five-point Likert scale varying from 'strongly agree' to 'strongly disagree' was used to evaluate the feedback. The data were subjected to statistical analysis using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software version 21 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL) Results: The 2558 patients participated in the present investigations representing 80% of the total population. The highest level of patient's satisfaction was observed for preparedness, knowledge, and helpfulness of the young doctors by 88.97% of patients (n=2048). Only 9.6% (n=221) and 1.31% (n=33) patients attributed moderate and low levels of satisfaction to this question, respectively. Likewise, 86.78% (n=1963) patients were found highly pleased with the young doctors who explained all procedures before and during their treatment. The percentage of patients with a moderate and minimal level of satisfaction to this attribute was 11.67% (n=264) and 1.55% (n=35), respectively. The lowest satisfaction was observed concerning waiting time, followed by the comfort of the waiting room and knowledge of young dentists about the accurate estimation of expenses incurred in case some material was required wherein 61.44% (n=1388), 63.75% (n=1486) and 77.91% (n=1552) patients associated high satisfaction level, respectively. In fact, these questions proved as areas for further improvement. Conclusions: Results of the present investigations provided benchmark data to map and compare patients’ satisfaction with their treatment in undergraduate dental clinics. Most patients in the present investigations were found satisfied with the quality and standard of care provided to them in the undergraduate clinics. The survey results further reported that most patients had trust in the knowledge, capabilities, and skills of the undergraduate dental students. However, they showed dissatisfaction over waiting time, comfort in the waiting rooms and students’ knowledge about the accurate estimation of correct expenses concerning the dental materials required for treatment procedures.

Abstract:Patient satisfaction is gaining an attention as an important quality indicator tracked closely by healthcare providers and emergency departments (EDs). Unfortunately, the primary factors driving patient satisfaction remain poorly studied in literature at developing countries. The aim of the study is to determine the association of latent construct with patient satisfaction in emergency department (ED) using structural equation modeling (SEM). A total of 219 ED patients from 9 different healthcare facilities were employed to measure the patient satisfaction via PSQ-18. An exploratory factor analysis was used to group items and SEM were applied to identify the factors. Time and access to care had a significant influence on general satisfaction. Interpersonal communication had positive and significant impact on general satisfaction. Financial aspects had negative and significant influence on general satisfaction. Technical quality was failed to influence general satisfaction of patients of emergency department. To enhance the level of patient satisfaction and to deliver better experience by improving the quality of healthcare services, the care provider shall increase their attention to the influencing factor such as time, access to care, and financial aspects.

Abstract:This study examines the factors affecting patient satisfaction and their relationships with respondent demographics for tertiary-level health-care services. Data were collected from in-patients of multispecialty hospitals located in northern India with the help of a structured questionnaire. Factor analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-test techniques have been employed to analyse the data. The study has revealed that factors which affect patient satisfaction are affordability and convenience, fulfilment of clinical requirements, nursing and staff care, general behaviour of doctors, registration and administrative procedures, infrastructure and amenities, professional behaviour of doctors and facilities at reception and out-patient department area. It has also been found that health insurance and various categories of respondent demographics, namely gender, residence, education and occupation are significantly different statistically (P < .05) with respect to the identified factors.

Abstract:Background: Patients search online for information about health and potential treatments, but the content and accuracy of some websites are questionable. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India developed a website ‘eDantSeva’ to promote oral health under the National Oral Health Programme.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the participants attending the Out Patient Department at a tertiary dental institute in New Delhi. The study duration was for a period of 4 months (September – December 2018). Participants with a basic understanding in English language and willing to participate were included in the study to give feedback for an oral health promoting website.Findings: The participants showed 73% of satisfaction with the website, 22% of the participants were partially satisfied and 5% were not satisfied with the website.Interpretation: Participants felt that the website on oral health promotion was well informative with comprehensive knowledge for dental up keeping and knowledge.Funding Statement: The study was funded by eHealth and eGovernance Division of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India.Declaration of Interests: There are no conflicts of interest. Abstract:Introduction: Effectiveness of the learning process can be measured by evaluation of interns’ confidence level in each of the competencies which will be helpful in their future dental practice. This study was conducted to assess self-confidence level of dental interns of a dental college in performing various dental procedures. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 65 dental interns selected by census method. Self-administered questionnaire was provided to the study participants for assessment of their confidence level in different dental procedures. Data were analyzed in the Statistical Package of Social Sciences version 20. Mean and standard deviation for quantitative data and frequency/percentage for qualitative data were calculated. Results: Majority of dental interns had good confidence in history taking (53, 83.1%), radiography (53, 81.5%), diagnosis (39, 60%), treatment planning (34, 52.3%), scaling (42, 64.6%), preventive resin restorations (39, 60%), anterior composite restorations (35, 53.8%), posterior composite restorations (55, 84.6%), anterior endodontics (29, 44.6%), premolar endodontics (23, 35.4%), treating pediatric patients (43, 66.2%), indirect pulp capping (41, 63.1%), acrylic partial denture design and construction (33, 50.8%) and simple extractions (33, 50.8%). They had poor/least confidence in metal partial dentures design and construction (58, 89.2), bridge preparation (44, 67.7%), molar endodontics (31, 47.7%), bleaching (57, 87.7%), veneering (61, 93.8%) and surgical extractions (38, 58.5%). Conclusions: The findings of the study concluded that the dental interns were confident in simple dental procedures and had least confidence in complex dental treatments. They need more exposure to the complex procedures during internship to enhance their confidence level.

Abstract:Background: Assessing patients' satisfaction is an easy and cost-effective method of evaluating the outpatient services provided by health-care institutions. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine patient satisfaction among patients attending various outpatient departments (OPDs) at a tertiary care hospital and the factors affecting their satisfaction. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients attending various OPDs at a tertiary care hospital in Faridabad. Exit face-to-face interviews were conducted for 334 patients above 18 years of age who availed OPD services followed by pharmacy services. Information regarding sociodemography, rating of satisfaction with various attributes of OPD services on a 5-point Likert scale, and reasons for dissatisfaction was collected. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. Root cause analysis for the lowest-scoring attribute was done using fishbone diagram. Results: About 64% of the patients were satisfied with the OPD services. "Attitude and communication of doctors" was the prime contributor to patient satisfaction. "Promptness at medicine distribution counter" was the attribute that scored lowest followed by "waiting time at the registration counter." The mean waiting time for registration was 38.2 min, for consultation with doctor 41.3 min, for collection of samples 49.6 min, and for drug dispensing 61 min. Conclusion: The issues related to pharmacy services need to be promptly acknowledged and addressed.

Abstract:Background: Oral health care services are often sparse and inconsistent in India therefore it is often difficult for poor people to get access to the oral health care services. The approach by dental institutions with the help of community outreach programs is a step ahead in overcoming this situation. Objectives: The study was conducted to evaluate the number of patients, disease pattern and the services provided in the outreach programmes and also effectiveness of patient referral. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted and the data were obtained from records of outreach programs conducted, in last 2 years by Pacific Dental College and Hospital. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics for the computation of percentages Chi-square test was applied to know the association of effectiveness of referral with age and gender. Confidence level and level of significance was fixed at 95% and 5% respectively. Results: A total of 22982 individuals in the age group of 4-80 years attended the outreach program. Dental caries (42.3%), periodontal diseases (63.2-69.0%) and dental fluorosis (33.7-35.0%) were commonly observed diseases. Effectiveness of referral was significantly high among the middle age adults and females (P<0.05). The effectiveness of referral was highly improved in 2013 after establishment of certain guidelines and strategies. Conclusion: The approaches by dental institutions with the help of community outreach programs can spread awareness and disseminate treatment and thereby enhancing access to care and eliminating access to care within the rural communities.

Abstract:Introduction: Dental trauma has emerged as a significant aspect of dental public health. Traumatized teeth require early and appropriate treatment, which frequently relies on the competence of the dentists, doctors, and nurses who provide the primary care. Aim: To assess the knowledge and attitude of paramedical students about the emergency management of avulsed tooth. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey consisting of 17 questions was designed and circulated among 365 paramedical students (nursing, pharmacy and physiotherapy) of Sankalchand Patel University, Visnagar, Gujarat, India, to assess their knowledge and attitude about the emergency management of avulsed tooth. Descriptive statistics were applied by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 20.0. Results: Total 260 (71.23%, mean age of 23 years) students responded, with 71 students from Physiotherapy, 106 from Nursing and 83 from Pharmacy. A total of. 178 (68.46%) students comprehend the meaning of avulsion. While 193 (74.23%) students had knowledge that tooth re-implantation is possible. Of all the respondents, 192 students (73.84%) were familiar about the benefit of mouth guards for prevention of sports injury and 125 students (48.07%) opined that it is very important to be acquainted with emergency management of dental trauma. Conclusion: Though the paramedical students had good understanding about tooth avulsion, they were unaware about the emergency management of the situation. This warrants the need of incorporating training programmes dedicated to the subject in their curriculum.

Abstract:Introduction: The Emergency Department (ED) is the point of rst contact for any critically ill patient, needing immediate medical attention. The ability of the nurses to handle emergencies with care and condence can make a big difference in a patient's comfort level. Aim: To study the knowledge, attitude, and skills of nurses posted to the Emergency Department towards patient care at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Material And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted for one month at the Emergency Department of Himalayan Hospital, Dehradun. All 53 nurses, posted to the emergency department were requested to participate in this study. Data was collected with the help of a pre-tested structured questionnaire. The skill set of nurses was assessed with the help of an observational checklist. Statistical analysis was performed using the data analysis tool in Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0. Pearson coefcient of correlation (r-value) and p-value were calculated. The level of statistical signicance was set at 5% (P < 0.05). Results: 33 (68.75%) nurses were females as compared to 15 (31.25%) in the male category. A maximum number of nurses 25 (52%) were in the experience range of < 5 years. Age and experience showed a high positive r-value of 0.94 and a statistically signicant P-value of (< 0.001). Correlation between years of experience and knowledge revealed a positive correlation, with an r-value of 0.35 and a statistically signicant p-value = 0.02 (< 0.05). It was observed that 66.5% of participants displayed a positive attitude, 10.8% were neutral and 22.7% displayed a negative attitude. Overall 70.3% of participants had good nursing skills, and 60% of nurses displayed good behavioural and communication skills. Conclusion: The study provides valuable insight into the Knowledge, attitude, and skills of nursing staff posted to the emergency department. Abstract:OBJECTIVES: To study the perception regarding common oral diseases and health seeking behaviour related to those diseases among rural population of central India.METHODS: A cross sectional study was conducted in the rural areas of Wardha, Maharashtra on a population between the age group of 18 and above. Data was recorded by a self administered, structured questionnaire in this study. Questionnaire was based on oral health literacy and health seeking behaviour of participants.RESULTS: Study included 700 participants, 343 males and 347 females. Dental problem was reported by 68% of participants. Toothache was the most common dental problem reported. Government hospitals were chosen by 19% of participants as treatment centre. Fear 24.3% was found to be the major reason for not visiting the dentist.CONCLUSION: Healthcare seeking behaviour among rural population towards oral diseases was poor. So efforts must be made to bring a change in this scenario.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Periodic evaluation of health services delivered to the community is a part of total quality management of health care delivery system in developing countries.OBJECTIVE: To assess the level of satisfaction among outdoor patients toward health care services available at teaching hospital, Port Blair.METHODOLOGY: The study included exit interview of 500 patients, sampled from 8 service delivery points of the health facility. Predesigned and pretested questionnaire based on PSQ-18 scale developed by Marshall and Hays was used as a study tool. Data entry was done in Microsoft excel sheet and analysis was done using IBM SPSS software version 21.RESULTS: It has been observed that the majority of patients (62%) were from urban area. The highest number (32.40%) of respondents was in the age group of 30-39 years category. Mean satisfaction was the highest for communication (3.94 out of 5), followed by general satisfaction (3.69), technical quality (3.46), time spent with doctor (3.41), interpersonal manner (3.35), and least in accessibility and convenience (2.96).CONCLUSION: Our study showed a good level of satisfaction of patients with services obtained from the referral center. Among the different domains of measurements of patient satisfaction, only accessibility and convenience score was low. Findings of this study would serve as a baseline data for improving the quality of services and making them more clients centered.

Abstract:Introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine the level of oral health knowledge, attitude, and practise among engineering, paramedical, and nursing staffs, as well as the factors that influence them. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted using voluntarily filled questionnaires which was circulated among 342 study participants.The recorded data were analyzed using the SPSS version 26. The descriptive statistics included computation of percentages, means and standard deviation. The statistical tests applied for the analysis were, Chi-square test and One Way ANOVA. The Confidence Level and the Level of Significance were set at 95% and 5%, respectively. Results: The response rate was 95.4%. More than half (69.1%) of the professionals and other staff members participating in the study were females. While comparing the scores of the three groups among education levels attitude section and practice section was found to be statistically significant (p=0.05). The difference in scores in the practice domain when compared with gender was found to be statistically significant (p=0.004). Conclusion: It is concluded that paramedical personnel, engineering, and nursing professionals had significantly less understanding of oral health and endodontic operations. However, all of the groups practised appropriate dental hygiene.

Abstract:Background: Radiology services are vital part of health care service and as a service provider one needs to understand the quality of service being delivered, from the patients’ perspective. This study objectively evaluates the expectation and perception of patients towards the quality of service offered by the department using SERVQUAL questionnaire. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study from September to November, 2018 with 219 patients subjected to different services of the department and participated in the self-administered SERVQUAL questionnaire survey in terms of the dimensions of tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. The mean gap score between perception and expectation for each of the dimension were determined, and the obtained overall scores were compared. Data MP Version 14 software was used for data processing and analysis. Results: The overall average score was negative (-0.03). Particularly, the modern look of equipment, the displayed information at the department (tangibles) and promptness of the services provided were perceived to be less than expected (score -0.33). With regard to reliability (+0.27), responsiveness (-0.0004), assurance (+0.19) and empathy (-0.30), the positive behavior of the staff instilled confidence in the patients in undergoing the procedures and they kept the patients’ best interest in mind during the services provided. Conclusions: There exists a service quality gap in the patients’ expectations and the actual perception of services in the department. The institute is now better able to recognize the gap, and hence can design and implement strategies that can improve the quality of services for increasing the patients’ satisfaction and propensity.

Abstract:Os autores fazem a revisao de 57 casos de polimiosite e dermatomiosite, 28 dos quais ja publicados noutras series. A analise dos dados recolhidos incide sobre a sintomatologia clinica, electromiogramas, doseamentos enzimaticos no soro, biopsias musculares, terapeutica e evolucao da doenca. Dos resultados desta analise os autores concluem: 1 — A dermatomiosite e uma entidade clinica facil de identificar, a polimiosite uma sindrome, aparecendo raramente isolada, mais frequentemente associada a sintomas de outros orgaos ou sistemas. 2 — A PM e DM sao muito mais frequentes no sexo feminino mas a associacao com neoplasias e percentualmente mais elevada no sexo masculino. 3 — O electromiograma e o exame de primeira linha para confirmar ou infirmar o diagnostico de polimiosite. 4 — O enzima que mais constantemente aparece aumentado nesta serie e a DHL seguido de perto pela CK. 5 — As biopsias musculares com exame histoquimico aumentam as possibilidades de diagnostico. 6 — E importante a precocidade do diagnostico de PM e DM tanto para a eficiencia terapeutica como para a probabilidade de detectar uma neoplasia numa fase tratavel. 7 — Os tumores malignos aparecem associados sobretudo a DM e o mais frequentemente encontrado e o carcinoma da mama. 8 — Nesta serie observa-se uma alta mortalidade de PM e DM infantil, sobretudo quando o componente cutâneo e exuberante.
Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture in Dental Hospitals in the Twin cities, Pakistan

Abstract:Objective: The purpose of our research is to evaluate the patient safety culture at Islamabad and Rawalpindi teaching hospitals. Materials and methods: A validated and slightly modified questionnaire was sent as a google forms link via WhatsApp and email to different teaching dental hospitals in the twin cities. The returned questionnaires were examined with IBM's statistical package for social sciences (version 22).). Results: 139 complete questionnaires were analyzed and results were calculated as average positive and average negative responses. Conclusion: This pilot study demonstrated that degree of patient safety in general in the Hospitals of Pakistan was acceptable. The number of incident reports were very low. Many participants also stated that the hospital is only concerned about patient safety after an unfavorable incident occurs., but they also reported that mistakes always lead to positive outcomes and the departments coordinate well with each other. Efficient Monte Carlo Estimation of the Expected Value of Sample Information Using Moment Matching

Abstract:Background. The Expected Value of Sample Information (EVSI) is used to calculate the economic value of a new research strategy. Although this value would be important to both researchers and funders, there are very few practical applications of the EVSI. This is due to computational difficulties associated with calculating the EVSI in practical health economic models using nested simulations. Methods. We present an approximation method for the EVSI that is framed in a Bayesian setting and is based on estimating the distribution of the posterior mean of the incremental net benefit across all possible future samples, known as the distribution of the preposterior mean. Specifically, this distribution is estimated using moment matching coupled with simulations that are available for probabilistic sensitivity analysis, which is typically mandatory in health economic evaluations. Results. This novel approximation method is applied to a health economic model that has previously been used to assess the performance of other EVSI estimators and accurately estimates the EVSI. The computational time for this method is competitive with other methods. Conclusion. We have developed a new calculation method for the EVSI which is computationally efficient and accurate. Limitations. This novel method relies on some additional simulation so can be expensive in models with a large computational cost.

Abstract:This research addresses a gap in the literature by conducting a comprehensive analysis of patients' level of satisfaction with dental care. Methods: By combining quantitative and qualitative survey methods with a PSQ, this study aims to augment ongoing initiatives to enhance dental patients' experiences by painting a more comprehensive depiction of patients' level of satisfaction. Results: When asked about their overall level of satisfaction 77.1% of the patients said that they received excellent services from office personnel and 72.2% said they trust their doctors. Conclusions: Assessing patient satisfaction in the realm of dental service quality is crucial for enhancing service quality and accuracy, which would benefit both patients and dentists and, ultimately, improve public health.
