Abstract:Triethylamine (TEA) significantly harms the human body, so it is important to develop a TEA gas sensor with excellent performance for TEA detection. In this work, a Pd/PdO-In2O3 TEA gas sensor is developed by a simple, low-cost method, which exhibits improved comprehensive performance to TEA, include high sensitivity, fast response/recovery time, good selectivity, long-term stability, and certain moisture resistance. The 0.8%Pd/PdO-In2O3 sensor exhibited a high response of 1380 and a fast res/rec time of 30 s/ 90 s for 10 ppm TEA, and with good selectivity and stability at an optimal operating temperature of 150°C, and a detection limit below 0.1 ppm. The PdO-In2O3 P-N heterojunction accelerates the electron transport speed and provides many electron transport channels, thus endowing the Pd/PdO-In2O3 with excellent TEA sensing performance. This work launches new insights into the development of new semiconductor heterojunctions for high-performance sensor devices.

Abstract:Selective noxious gas sensing at low temperature is very important in some industrial applications. Here, we demonstrate that the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) wrapped Au@ZnO core-shell composite can be fabricated in wafer-level and used as the key sensor materials for triethylamine sensing with a high response of 12.2% for 5 ppm of TEA gas at a low temperature (50 degrees C). The sensitivity of RGO/Au/ZnO sensor to TEA gas achieved almost 6 times higher than that of ethanol and acetone, 5 times that of methanol and isopropanol, and 3 times that of ammonia. The selective sensing properties are largely attributed to the synergistic effect of the core-shell structure and the ZnO/RGO heterojunctions. This work provides a significant strategy for TEA gas sensor selective sensing arrays application at low temperatures. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Triethylamine (TEA) is a significant compound, but it is toxic and flammable. Since the humidity in the environment is constantly changing, it is meaningful to develop a sensor that can detect TEA efficiently and is less disturbed by humidity. Here, Pd nanoparticles with a small particle size (about 4 nm) were prepared by reduction method and dispersed on Co-MOF (ZIF-67). Pd@ZIF-67-derived trace PdO and Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles were evenly decorated on SnO 2 nanofibers by electrospinning and calcination. The ratios of PdO to SnO 2 in PdO-Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 were 0.012 wt% and 0.048 wt%, respectively. The response of the sensor based on 0.012 wt% PdO-Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 to 20 ppm TEA was 14 at 240 °C. The response time was 3 s and the lowest concentration actually detected was 1 ppm. The synergistic effects of oxygen vacancy, p-n junction, electron sensitization of PdO and morphology of composite improved sensing performance. In addition, due to the inhibition of hydroxyl poisoning by PdO and the oxidation assisting effect of Co 3 O 4 , the composite had excellent humidity resistance.

Abstract:Given human health and environmental safety issues, it is particularly imperative to detect triethylamine (TEA) rapidly and effectively at low temperatures. In this work, ZnSnO 3 hollow rounded cubes (HZTO) with different PdO contents were prepared by liquid phase synthesis methods . The characterization results show that the side length of the hollow-rounded cubes is 500 – 700 nm, and the thickness is about 50 nm. Synthetic materials were applied to TEA gas sensors, and the sensing characteristics of the sensors were evaluated. The gas sensing results indicate that the modification of PdO can adjust the optimal operating temperature and the response of the gas sensor. The response value of the sensor with the best gas sensing performance can be as high as 532 to 100 ppm TEA at 175 °C, which is 17 times that of the unmodified material, and the working temperature is reduced by 125 °C. In addition, the sensor has good performance in selectivity, response time (1 s), low detection limit (500 ppb), and long-term stability. The improved TEA gas sensing performance is attributed to the structural characteristics of the hollow rounded cube of the material, p-n heterojunction, and the catalytic effect of PdO.

Abstract:In this work, Au decorated In-doped SnO2 (Au@In2O3-SnO2) porous nanotubes (PNTs) were fabricated via electrospinning and a subsequent calcination treatment. The In-doped SnO2 PNTs with various Au/Sn molar ratios possessed good ethanol sensing properties. As a result, the 3 % mol Au decorated In-doped SnO2 PNTs had high response to ethanol (Ra/Rg = 316.8-100 ppm) and can detect ethanol down to 50 ppb at a low working temperature of 150 degrees C. In addition, the gas sensor also had high selectivity, good reversibility and long-term stability. The enhanced sensing performance was mainly ascribed to the increase of oxygen vacancies, cata-lytic activity of Au nanocatalysts, and porous structures. The sensing results demonstrated that Au@In2O3-SnO2 PNTs had the great potential for ethanol detecting, and provide a facile method for rationally designing other types of gas sensors.
Construction of Pt/Ce-In2O3 hierarchical microspheres for superior triethylamine detection at low temperature

Abstract:Triethylamine (TEA) is a typical pollution in chemical industry and Corrupt markers of aquatic products. TEA emissions have a serious impact on human health, industrial production and food safety. In this study, hierarchical flower-like Pt-loaded/Ce-doped In2O3 microspheres are synthesized via simple hydrothermal and in-situ reduction methods. The triethylamine (TEA) sensing measurements display the 0.5Pt-3CeIn gas sensor exhibits high sensitivity (Ra/Rg = 900–100 ppm triethylamine), ultra-low optimal working temperature (100 ℃), enhanced responding and recovering speed (158/45 s) and excellent selectivity towards different target gases (ethanol, acetone, xylene, methanol, nitrogen dioxide and methane) including amine (response towards 50 ppm NH3 is lower than 10). The TEA detection limit is as low as 5 ppb and the sensor exhibits a wide TEA detection range. The introduction of Pt and Ce components into In2O3 effectively reduces the operating temperature, promotes the chemisorbed oxygen content (18.14 %) and wildly decreases the band gap (2.97 eV). The gas sensing mechanism of Pt/Ce-In2O3, which is dominated by electronic and chemical sensitization of Pt, catalytic function of Ce dopants and the functional interface between Pt nanoparticles and Ce-doped In2O3 microspheres, is proposed. This work as well testifies the feasibility for multi-components cooperative optimization of MOS in gas sensing applications.

Abstract:Triethylamine (TEA) is a kind of flammable and pungent gas, which widely exists in our daily life. It is very important to monitor TEA gas rapidly and selectively at low temperatures. In this work, hierarchical structured WO3 nanomaterials assembled from two-dimensional rectangular nanoflakes were prepared by a simple solvothermal method. On this basis, TEA gas sensors were fabricated successfully by applying different amounts of noble metal Pt on WO3. The results showed that the sensing behavior of WO3 loaded with 1 at% Pt/PtO2 was remarkably improved (3323.5–50 ppm TEA, 137.5 °C) about 90 times than pure WO3 (37–50 ppm TEA, 225 °C), and the response time was shortened to 16 s (pure WO3 was 40 s). In addition, the selectivity of the sensor to TEA was excellent, as well as good repeatability and long-term stability. The improvement of gas sensing performance can be attributed to the catalytic spillover effect of Pt/PtO2, and the existence of heterojunction between PtO2 and WO3, etc. Moreover, density functional theory calculations were used to explain the excellent selectivity of WO3 for TEA. This work provides a new idea for real-time and accurate detection of TEA at low temperatures.

Abstract:In recent years, metal–organic framework (MOF) derivatives have gradually become ideal materials for gas sensors due to their controllable composition, diverse structures and open metal sites. In this research, a simplified hydrothermal method was applied to successfully prepare MOF-derived α-Fe 2 O 3 spindles, and an in situ reduction method was then utilized to deposit Pt, Pd and PtPd bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) on the α-Fe 2 O 3 spindles. The effects of noble metals Pt, Pd and PtPd on the gas-sensing properties of Fe 2 O 3 were systematically examined. The PtPd/α-Fe 2 O 3 sensor has enhanced gas-sensing performance for triethylamine (TEA), especially at PtPd content of 1.5 wt% and mass ratio of Pt : Pd = 90 : 10, where the response of the sensor to 100 ppm TEA at a lower temperature of 150 °C is 442, which is 34 times higher than that of the original α-Fe 2 O 3 (response of 13). Additionally, the sensor demonstrated improved response/recovery properties and very respectable selectivity, repeatability, long-term stability within 30 days and lower detection limit (500 ppb) at 150 °C. Combining the results of XPS and O 2 -TPD, the enhanced gas-sensing properties of PtPd bimetallic-modified α-Fe 2 O 3 over monometallic (Pt or Pd) modified α-Fe 2 O 3 were analyzed, which can be attributed to the chemical and electronic sensitization of noble metals and the synergistic effect of the PtPd bimetallic NPs, resulting in more surface defects and enhanced oxygen adsorption capacity of the sensing material. This work provided an effective gas-sensing material for the low-temperature detection and analysis of triethylamine gas.

Abstract:Triethylamine, a crucial industrial raw material, poses significant threats to both the ecosystem and human health. However, detecting lower concentrations of TEA remains an arduous task. In this study, we report the facile hydrothermal and ultrasonic treatment synthesis of 2D SnSe2 micro-flower modified with 0D In2O3 nanoparticles to form SnSe2/In2O3 heterojunctions for the first time. The SnSe2/In2O3 sensor has a response value of 4.86 for 10 ppm TEA gas at 120 °C, with response and recovery times of 18 s and 79 s respectively, and detection limits as low as 100 ppb. In addition, the SnSe2/In2O3 sensor is essentially unaffected by humidity in the 30% RH to 60% RH range, and the SnSe2/In2O3 sensor response value decreases slightly in the 70% RH to 97% RH range, demonstrating excellent humidity tolerance. More importantly, the sensor maintained excellent cyclic-stability performance during a four-month cyclic stability test. The improved gas-sensitive performance can be attributed to the large number of n-n heterojunctions in the SnSe2/In2O3 material, which enhances the interfacial charge transfer, as well as the active-sites on the material surface. This work serves as a valuable complement to the TEA gas sensor and holds significant potential for detecting low concentrations of TEA at low temperatures in environmental sensing applications.

Abstract:Sensitive and stable triethylamine (TEA) gas sensors are desirable for environmental and human safety. However, the high operating temperature of the metal-oxide-based gas sensors poses a limitation on their wide applications. Herein, we fabricate an exceptional TEA gas sensor based on the core–shell heterostructure comprising crystalline CuO and amorphous In2O3/ZnO (CuInZnO) via a facile electrodeposition method. Remarkably, the optimum gas sensor (CuInZnO-3) exhibits an outstanding gas response (∼25) toward a 10 ppm TEA at room temperature. Moreover, CuInZnO-3 shows excellent selectivity, linear response, and stability. The superior sensing performance can be mainly ascribed to the unique core–shell nanorod heterostructure with a high specific surface area, allowing the formation of p–n junctions. The amorphous nature of the In2O3/ZnO shell also enriches the active oxygen on the surface and enhances gas adsorption.

Highly Selective Triethylamine Gas Sensor Based on ZnO/Ti3C2Tx MXene Self-Assembly Heterostructure

Abstract:MXenes, as new two-dimensional transition metal compounds, has become promising sensing materials due to the excellent metal conductivity, abundant adsorption sites and the terminal groups of -O, -OH and -F. In this study, we report the well-etched accordion-like Ti3C2Tx by removing Al layer in Ti3AlC2, where T-x represents a wealth of terminal functional groups (-OH, -F, -O, etc.). In addition, unique hierarchical self-assembly ZnO/Ti3C2Tx nanocomposites are synthesized by hydrothermal method. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller Method investigation also shows that the ZnO/Ti3C2Tx nanocomposites has a specific surface area of about 22.08 m(2)/g, and the pore size is mainly located at 11.1 nm. The innovative nanostructure is conducive to the adsorption and response of gas molecules. By investigating the gas sensitive properties of the sensors, it is found that the response of the ZnO/Ti3C2Tx sensor to triethylamine (TEA) is improved by 66 times and 1.58 times over that of pure Ti3C2Tx and ZnO, and the optimal operating temperature is 60degree celsius lower than that of pure ZnO. In addition, the LOD (Low Of Detection) of about 32.7 ppb indicates that the ZnO/Ti3C2Tx sensor is suitable for the detection of low concentrations TEA. The sensing performances of the ZnO/Ti3C2Tx sensor at a high humidity of 75 % RH verifies the strong sensing performance in high humidity environment. Furthermore, the composite sensor stabilize in 6 repetitive tests and present slight decrease in response value over 30 days. The excellent TEA sensitive properties indicate that the ZnO/Ti3C2Tx nanocomposite sensor may have promising applications in the gas sensitive field.

Abstract:Triethylamine (TEA) sensors are an effective and powerful tool for real-time monitoring of TEA, and play an important role in early warning of production processes, environmental atmospheric monitoring and human health protection. In this paper, SnO 2 /ZnO complex oxide was prepared by calcining bimetallic organic frameworks (BMOFs) to improve both the selectivity, sensitivity and accuracy of TEA-sensing materials and devices. The results show that the obtained 5Sn5Zn complex oxide prepared by mol (Sn):mol (Zn) = 1:1 has excellent selective responsiveness, repeatability and longtime reliability stability to TEA gas at 270 °C Besides, the 5Sn5Zn complex oxide exhibits a rapid response/recovery performance to TEA at 100 ppm concentration ( T res / T rec = 4 s/60 s separately), especially at the high humidity of 40–90% relative humidity (RH), and the response degree of the 5Sn5Zn complex oxide to TEA only decreases by 17%. This may be the best TEA selective response stability achieved by SnO 2 /ZnO complex oxide material under high humidity conditions.

Self-Template Synthesis of Mesoporous Au-SnO2 Nanospheres for Low-Temperature Detection of Triethylamine Vapor

Abstract:The development of metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor for low-temperature detection of hazardous gases (e. g., triethylamine, TEA) is highly desirable, but still challenging. Herein, a self-template synthesis strategy for mesoporous Au-SnO2 nanospheres was developed using nontoxic, renewable and low-cost plant polyphenol as a main chelating agent, tin ions and chloroauric acid as a metal source. Because of the strong chelate ability of polyphenol, a stable Au/tin-polyphenol-formaldehyde sphere is obtained and used as a precursor. After direct calcination process, Au-SnO2 materials with mesoporous crystalline framework, uniform diameter (-120 nm) and high specific surface area (105.2 m2/g) are successfully prepared. The mesoporous Au-SnO2 nanospheres are further used for TEA sensing. They show high response (5.16) at a low temperature (50 celcius) toward TEA. The detection limit was 0.11 ppm. The decoration of Au species can effectively decrease the activation energy and lower the working temperature. After integration with Bluetooth, the gas sensor can be used for wireless monitoring TEA with a low concentration (10-50 ppm) and fast response (- 30 s). This proposed strategy can be used for mesoporous noble metal-metal oxides and further boost the sensing performance of gas sensor.
Triethylamine gas sensor based on Pt-functionalized hierarchical ZnO microspheres

Abstract:<p>Monitoring and detection of triethylamine (TEA) gas are indispensable to environmental and human safety. However, TEA gas sensor suffers from low response. Herein, unique nanosized-Pt-decorated hierarchical ZnO microspheres were prepared. Compared with pristine ZnO microspheres and Pt-c-ZnO (Pt nanoparticles deposited on commercial ZnO), the obtained Pt-ZnO exhibited the best TEA gas sensing behaviors, in terms of lower working temperature (200 °C), better selectivity and long-term stability. Notably, the response value of Pt-ZnO sensor towards 100 ppm TEA was up to 242, which was 50 and 16-fold higher than those of pristine ZnO and Pt-c-ZnO sensor, respectively. The superior properties were attributed to structural advantages as well as the synergistic effect between Pt and ZnO. The sensing mechanism was thoroughly clarified by the electron-sinker effect of Pt. It was further corroborated by Kelvin probe and density function theory (DFT) simulation. Moreover, higher surface adsorption oxygen activity and lower TEA adsorption energy of this optimal sample were demonstrated by temperature programmed desorption (O<sub>2</sub>-TPD) and DFT simulation. Based on the aforementioned advantages, Pt-ZnO becomes a satisfactory candidate for TEA gas sensors. Significantly, this work opens a new avenue for the understanding the mechanism for performance enhancement under.</p>

Abstract:The development of low-temperature SnS 2 -based sensitive elements with unique surface adsorption and transport regulation for triethylamine (TEA) has always been an intractable challenge. In the present work, ultrathin SnS 2 /MnS microflowers with enhanced metallicity have been prepared by a facile one-step hydrothermal method, which is especially beneficial for achieving superior TEA-sensing performance under room temperature (RT) condition. Compared with pure SnS 2 , the SnS 2 /MnS-3 % can obviously exhibit higher responses of 17.85 and 23.67, faster response/recovery times of 165/506 and 156/344 s, and the enhanced gas selectivity and stability to 100 ppm TEA at 30 and 40 °C, respectively. Taking account of density functional theory (DFT) calculation, the transformation of SnS 2 -based sensors from semiconductive to metallic nature plays a critical role of the enhanced gas-sensing behavior with the increased gas molecules absorption and electron transport efficiency, which can provide a new strategy for constructing novel and effective sulfide RT gas-sensing composites.

Abstract:The freshness of seafood can be judged by detecting the concentration of triethylamine (TEA). In this work, 2D CuO porous nanosheets (CuO PNs) were prepared by a graphene oxide template method and their particle sizes were regulated by changing the calcination temperature. Their structure, morphology and gas sensing performances were investigated by various characterization methods. The response (Rg/Ra) of the gas sensor based on CuO PNs calcined at 700 oC was as high as 440 toward 100 ppm TEA at the operating temperature of 40 °C. The detection limit was as low as 0.25 ppm. In addition, the gas sensor has good selectivity and stability. The excellent TEA sensitivity is mainly resulted from the appropriate particle size and loose porous framework. This work not only paves the way to explore the novel low temperature TEA gas sensors, but also provides deep insight on improving the structure and properties of gas sensitive materials by controlling the calcination temperature.

The electronic structure and grain size tuning of Sn/Ce co-modified ZnO for efficient triethylamine sensing at room temperature

Abstract:Metal elements doping and the construction of heterojunction are commonly effective strategies to achieve the excellent gas sensing performance at room temperature (RT). This work realizes the detection of triethylamine (TEA) at RT under UV light by co-modifying ZnO with Sn and Ce, and the sensor based on ZSC-3 (2 at% Sn/0.7 at% Ce) exhibits optimal sensing properties to TEA with the responses of 11.5, fast response/recovery time of 18 s/137 s to 10 ppm TEA, and a low theoretical detection limit of 46 ppb. In the meantime, the sensor also possesses good selectivity, repeatability, and stability. Furthermore, the mechanism of sensor to TEA is discussed in the work, and the boosting properties are contributed to the synergistic effect of Sn and Ce by the adjustment of grain sizes, oxygen vacancies content, electron concentration, and even the separation of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs.

Abstract:Monitoring of explosive and toxic triethylamine (TEA) is essential for environmental safety and human health. However, high sensitivity detection of TEA remains a huge challenge at low temperature or even room temperature. Here, we developed a CuO porous foam-based gas sensor for TEA detection at room temperature by defect engineering of oxygen vacancies. The CuO porous foam with rich surface oxygen vacancies have been synthesized through a sol-gel autocombustion method, and the formation mechanism of porous foam structure and rich oxygen vacancies of CuO have been investigated by various characterization methods. Moreover, the fabricated CuO foam gas sensor reveals the high response of 140.0 for 50 ppm TEA, a low detection limit of 0.5 ppm, excellent selectivity, good stability and repeatability at room temperature, which are ascribed to porous structure and rich surface oxygen vacancies of CuO foam. Importantly, the surface redox reaction model and density function theoretical calculation have been applied to deeply explore the sensing mechanism. This work can not only realize the ultra-sensitive sensing of TEA at room temperature, but also provide a novel strategy for the design of other ideal performance sensors at low operating temperatures.

Abstract:This study explores the development of a gas sensor based on SnO 2 /NiO heterostructures for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs), notably triethylamine (TEA). The sensor's operational principles, including TEA molecule interaction with adsorbed oxygen and electron transfer mechanisms affecting sensor resistance, are thoroughly analyzed. SnO 2 /NiO core–shell heterojunction nanowires were synthesized via a vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) and hydrothermal process. Characterization techniques such as field-emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and nitrogen gas adsorption (BET method) were employed. Experimental results demonstrate exceptional sensor performance at 300 °C, showing rapid response and recovery to TEA with high stability over extended use. This research highlights the promise of SnO 2 /NiO heterostructures for advanced gas-sensing applications, surpassing conventional sensor technologies.

PdPt Nanoparticle-Functionalized α-Fe 2 O 3 Hollow Nanorods for Triethylamine Sensing

Abstract:Noble metals (Pd, Pt, and PdPt) nanocrystals with uniform size and good dispersity were synthesized by the oleylamine (OAm) and borane tributylamine complex (BTB) system in a nitrogen atmosphere and employed to functionalize α-Fe2O3 hollow nanorods. The obtained PdPt/α-Fe2O3 composite has high specific surface area (73.5 m2 g–1) and mesoporous structure (∼10.1 nm). The XPS characterization indicated a direct electronic interaction between PdPt and α-Fe2O3 and the strong dissociation effect of PdPt on oxygen. Compared with α-Fe2O3, Pd/α-Fe2O3, and Pt/α-Fe2O3, the PdPt/α-Fe2O3 sensor exhibits higher response (∼98), faster response, and recovery times (7 s/4 s) to 50 ppm of TEA at 190 °C, and the actual detection limit is as low as 100 ppb. The improved sensing performance of the PdPt/α-Fe2O3 sensor was mainly attributed to the high catalytic activity of PdPt to TEA oxidation. In addition, the electronic senstization of Pd and the synergistic effect of PdPt also played an assistant role.
