Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of a deep learning algorithm for the automated detection of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) on anteroposterior (AP) radiographs.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Of 2601 hip AP radiographs, 5076 cropped unilateral hip joint images were used to construct a dataset that was further divided into training (80%), validation (10%), or test sets (10%). Three radiologists were asked to label the hip images as normal or DDH. To investigate the diagnostic performance of the deep learning algorithm, we calculated the receiver operating characteristics (ROC), precision-recall curve (PRC) plots, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) and compared them with the performance of radiologists with different levels of experience.RESULTS: The area under the ROC plot generated by the deep learning algorithm and radiologists was 0.988 and 0.988-0.919, respectively. The area under the PRC plot generated by the deep learning algorithm and radiologists was 0.973 and 0.618-0.958, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of the proposed deep learning algorithm were 98.0, 98.1, 84.5, and 99.8%, respectively. There was no significant difference in the diagnosis of DDH by the algorithm and the radiologist with experience in pediatric radiology (p = 0.180). However, the proposed model showed higher sensitivity, specificity, and PPV, compared to the radiologist without experience in pediatric radiology (p < 0.001).CONCLUSION: The proposed deep learning algorithm provided an accurate diagnosis of DDH on hip radiographs, which was comparable to the diagnosis by an experienced radiologist.

Abstract:Background Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common orthopedic disease in children. In clinical surgery, it is essential to quickly and accurately locate the exact position of the lesion, and there are still some controversies relating to DDH status. We adopt artificial intelligence (AI) to solve the above problems. Methods In this paper, automatic DDH measurements and classifications were achieved using a three-stage pipeline. In the first stage, we used Mask-RCNN to detect the local features of the image and segment the bony pelvis, including the ilium, pubis, ischium, and femoral heads. For the second stage, local image patches focused on semantically related areas for DDH landmarks were extracted by high-resolution network (HRNet). In the third stage, some radiographic results are obtained. In the above process, we used 1,265 patient x-ray samples as the training set and 133 samples from two other medical institutions as the verification set. The results of AI were compared with three orthopedic surgeons for reliability and time consumption. Results AI-aided diagnostic system's Tönnis and International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) classification accuracies for both hips ranged from 0.86 to 0.95. The measurements of numerical indices showed that there was no statistically significant difference between surgeons and AI. Tönnis and IHDI indicators were similar across the AI system, intermediate surgeon, and junior surgeon. Among some objective interpretation indicators, such as acetabular index and CE angle, there were good stability and consistency among the four observers. Intraclass consistency of acetabular index and CE angle among surgeons was 0.79–0.98, while AI was 1.00. The measurement time required by AI was significantly less than that of the doctors. Conclusion The AI-aided diagnosis system can quickly and automatically measure important parameters and improve the quality of clinical diagnosis and screening referral process with a convenient and efficient way.

Abstract:As the first-line diagnostic imaging modality, radiography plays an essential role in the early detection of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Clinically, the diagnosis of DDH relies on manual measurements and subjective evaluation of different anatomical features from pelvic radiographs. This process is inefficient and error-prone and requires years of clinical experience. In this study, we propose a deep learning-based system that automatically detects 14 keypoints from a radiograph, measures three anatomical angles (center-edge, T\"onnis, and Sharp angles), and classifies DDH hips as grades I-IV based on the Crowe criteria. Moreover, a novel data-driven scoring system is proposed to quantitatively integrate the information from the three angles for DDH diagnosis. The proposed keypoint detection model achieved a mean (95% confidence interval [CI]) average precision of 0.807 (0.804-0.810). The mean (95% CI) intraclass correlation coefficients between the center-edge, Tonnis, and Sharp angles measured by the proposed model and the ground-truth were 0.957 (0.952-0.962), 0.947 (0.941-0.953), and 0.953 (0.947-0.960), respectively, which were significantly higher than those of experienced orthopedic surgeons (p<0.0001). In addition, the mean (95% CI) test diagnostic agreement (Cohen's kappa) obtained using the proposed scoring system was 0.84 (0.83-0.85), which was significantly higher than those obtained from diagnostic criteria for individual angle (0.76 [0.75-0.77]) and orthopedists (0.71 [0.63-0.79]). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study for objective DDH diagnosis by leveraging deep learning keypoint detection and integrating different anatomical measurements, which can provide reliable and explainable support for clinical decision-making.

Abstract:Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a relatively common disorder in newborns, with a reported prevalence of 1–5 per 1000 births. It can lead to developmental abnormalities in terms of mechanical difficulties and a displacement of the joint (i.e., subluxation or dysplasia). An early diagnosis in the first few months from birth can drastically improve healing, render surgical intervention unnecessary and reduce bracing time. A pelvic X-ray inspection represents the gold standard for DDH diagnosis. Recent advances in deep learning artificial intelligence have enabled the use of many image-based medical decision-making applications. The present study employs deep transfer learning in detecting DDH in pelvic X-ray images without the need for explicit measurements.

Abstract:Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a cluster of hip development disorders and one of the most common hip diseases in infants. Hip radiography is a convenient diagnostic tool for DDH, but its diagnostic accuracy is dependent on the interpreter's level of experience. The aim of this study was to develop a deep learning model for detecting DDH. Patients younger than 12 months who underwent hip radiography between June 2009 and November 2021 were selected. Using their radiography images, transfer learning was performed to develop a deep learning model using the "You Only Look Once" v5 (YOLOv5) and single shot multi-box detector (SSD). A total of 305 anteroposterior hip radiography images (205 normal and 100 DDH hip images) were collected. Of these, 30 normal and 17 DDH hip images were used as the test dataset. The sensitivity and the specificity of our best YOLOv5 model (YOLOv5l) were 0.94 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.73–1.00) and 0.96 (95% CI 0.89–0.99), respectively. This model also outperformed the SSD model. This is the first study to establish a model for detecting DDH using YOLOv5. Our deep learning model provides good diagnostic performance for DDH. We believe our model is a useful diagnostic assistant tool.

Abstract:Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a condition in infants where the femoral head is incorrectly located in the hip joint. We propose a deep learning algorithm for segmenting key structures within ultrasound images, employing this to calculate Femoral Head Coverage (FHC) and provide a screening diagnosis for DDH. To our knowledge, this is the first study to automate FHC calculation for DDH screening. Our algorithm outperforms the international state of the art, agreeing with expert clinicians on 89.8% of our test images.

Abstract:Purpose: Since it is fast, inexpensive and increasingly portable, ultrasound can be used for early detection of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) in infants at point-of-care. However, accurate interpretation\is highly dependent on scan quality. Poor-quality images lead to misdiagnosis, but inexperienced users may not even recognize the deficiencies in the images. Currently, users assess scan quality subjectively, based on image landmarks which are prone to human errors. Instead, we propose using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automatically assess scan quality. Methods: We trained separate Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models to detect presence of each of four commonly used ultrasound landmarks in each hip image: straight horizontal iliac wing, labrum, os ischium and midportion of the femoral head. We used 100 3D ultrasound (3DUS) images for training and validated the technique on a set of 107 3DUS images also scored for landmarks by three non-expert readers and one expert radiologist. Results: We got AI ≥ 85% accuracy for all four landmarks (ilium = 0.89, labrum = 0.94, os ischium = 0.85, femoral head = 0.98) as a binary classifier between adequate and inadequate scan quality. Our technique also showed excellent agreement with manual assessment in terms of Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Cohen's kappa coefficient (K) for ilium (ICC = 0.81, K = 0.56), os ischium (ICC = 0.89, K = 0.63) and femoral head (ICC = 0.83, K = 0.66), and moderate to good agreement for labrum (ICC = 0.65, K = 0.33). Conclusion: This new technique could ensure high scan quality and facilitate more widespread use of ultrasound in population screening of DDH.
Radiographic Findings Associated With Mild Hip Dysplasia in 3869 Patients Using a Deep Learning Measurement Tool

Abstract:Background: Hip dysplasia is considered one of the leading etiologies contributing to hip degeneration and the eventual need for total hip arthroplasty (THA). We validated a deep learning (DL) algorithm to measure angles relevant to hip dysplasia and applied this algorithm to determine the prevalence of dysplasia in a large population based on incremental radiographic cutoffs. Methods: Patients from the Osteoarthritis Initiative with anteroposterior pelvis radiographs and without previous THAs were included. A DL algorithm automated 3 angles associated with hip dysplasia: modified lateral center-edge angle (LCEA), Tönnis angle, and modified Sharp angle. The algorithm was validated against manual measurements, and all angles were measured in a cohort of 3869 patients (61.2 ± 9.2 years, 57.1% female). The percentile distributions and prevalence of dysplastic hips were analyzed using each angle. Results: The algorithm had no significant difference (P > .05) in measurements (paired difference: 0.3°-0.7°) against readers and had excellent agreement for dysplasia classification (kappa = 0.78-0.88). In 140 minutes, 23,214 measurements were automated for 3869 patients. LCEA and Sharp angles were higher and the Tönnis angle was lower (P < .01) in females. The dysplastic hip prevalence varied from 2.5% to 20% utilizing the following cutoffs: 17.3°-25.5° (LCEA), 9.4°-15.6° (Tönnis), and 41.3°-45.9° (Sharp). Conclusions: A DL algorithm was developed to measure and classify hips with mild hip dysplasia. The reported prevalence of dysplasia in a large patient cohort was dependent on both the measurement and threshold, with 12.4% of patients having dysplasia radiographic indices indicative of higher THA risk.
Development of a Fully Automated Graf Standard Plane and Angle Evaluation Method for Infant Hip Ultrasound Scans

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Graf's method is currently the most commonly used ultrasound-based technique for the diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). However, the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis are highly affected by the sonographers' qualification and the time and effort expended, which has a significant intra- and inter-observer variability.METHODS:Aiming to minimize the manual intervention in the diagnosis process, we developed a deep learning-based computer-aided framework for the DDH diagnosis, which can perform fully automated standard plane detection and angle measurement for Graf type I and type II hips. The proposed framework is composed of three modules: an anatomical structure detection module, a standard plane scoring module, and an angle measurement module. This framework can be applied to two common clinical scenarios. The first is the static mode, measurement and classification are performed directly based on the given standard plane. The second is the dynamic mode, where a standard plane from ultrasound video is first determined, and measurement and classification are then completed. To the best of our knowledge, our proposed framework is the first CAD method that can automatically perform the entire measurement process of Graf's method.RESULTS:In our experiments, 1051 US images and 289 US videos of Graf type I and type II hips were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed framework. In static mode, the mean absolute error of α, β angles are 1.71° and 2.40°, and the classification accuracy is 94.71%. In dynamic mode, the mean absolute error of α, β angles are 1.97° and 2.53°, the classification accuracy is 89.51%, and the running speed is 31 fps.CONCLUSIONS:Experimental results demonstrate that our fully automated framework can accurately perform standard plane detection and angle measurement of an infant's hip at a fast speed, showing great potential for clinical application.
Enhancing YOLO5 for the Assessment of Irregular Pelvic Radiographs with Multimodal Information

Abstract:Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is one of the most common orthopedic disorders in infants and young children. Accurate identification and localization of anatomical landmarks are prerequisites for the diagnosis of DDH. In recent years, various works have employed deep learning algorithms on radiography images for DDH diagnosis. However, none of these works have considered the incorporation of multimodal information. The pelvis exhibits distinct structures at different developmental stages, and there are also gender-based differences. In light of this, this study proposes a method to enhance the performance of deep learning models in diagnosing DDH by incorporating age and gender information into the channels. The study utilizes YOLO5 to construct a deep learning network for detecting hip joint landmarks. Moreover, a comprehensive dataset of 7750 pelvic X-ray images is established, covering ages from 4 months to 16 years and encompassing various conditions, such as deformities and post-operative cases, which authentically capture the temporal diversity and pathological complexities of DDH. Experimental results show that the YOLO5 model with integrated multimodal information achieves a mAP0.5-0.95 of 83.1% and a diagnostic accuracy of 86.7% in test dataset. The F1 scores for diagnosing cases of normal (NM), suspected dislocation (SD), mild dislocation (MD), and heavily dislocation (HD) are 90.9%, 79.8%, 63.5%, and 97.4%, respectively. Furthermore, experiments conducted on datasets of different sizes and networks of different sizes demonstrate the beneficial impact of multimodal information in improving the effectiveness of deep learning in diagnosing DDH.
A Semi-automatic Diagnosis of Hip Dysplasia on X-Ray Films

Abstract:Background: Diagnosis of hip joint plays an important role in early screening of hip diseases such as coxarthritis, heterotopic ossification, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, etc. Early detection of hip dysplasia on X-ray films may probably conduce to early treatment of patients, which can help to cure patients or relieve their pain as much as possible. There has been no method or tool for automatic diagnosis of hip dysplasia till now. Results: A semi-automatic method for diagnosis of hip dysplasia is proposed. Considering the complexity of medical imaging, the contour of acetabulum, femoral head, and the upper side of thigh-bone are manually marked. Feature points are extracted according to marked contours. Traditional knowledge-driven diagnostic criteria is abandoned. Instead, a data-driven diagnostic model for hip dysplasia is presented. Angles including CE, sharp, and Tonnis angle which are commonly measured in clinical diagnosis, are automatically obtained. Samples, each of which consists of these three angle values, are used for clustering according to their densities in a descending order. A three-dimensional normal distribution derived from the cluster is built and regarded as the parametric model for diagnosis of hip dysplasia. Experiments on 143 X-ray films including 286 samples (i.e., 143 left and 143 right hip joints) demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. According to the method, a computer-aided diagnosis tool is developed for the convenience of clinicians, which can be downloaded at http://www.bio-nefu.com/HIPindex/ . The data used to support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding authors upon request. Conclusions: This data-driven method provides a more objective measurement of the angles. Besides, it provides a new criterion for diagnosis of hip dysplasia other than doctors' experience deriving from knowledge-driven clinical manual, which actually corresponds to very different way for clinical diagnosis of hip dysplasia.

The Feasibility of Ultrasound Graf Method in Screening Infants and Young Children with Congenital Hip Dysplasia and Follow-Up of Treatment Effect

Abstract:Background: Congenital hip dysplasia is a common limb deformity in infants and young children. This study aimed to clarify the feasibility of ultrasound Graf method in screening congenital hip dysplasia of infants and young children, and its application value in follow-up treatment. Methods: A total of 1,313 infants and young children with clinically suspected congenital hip dysplasia in our hospital from December 2016 to January 2018 were selected as the participants and were examined by ultrasound Graf method. The acetabulum shape and the measured values of a and 3 angles of the participants were observed. The development of the hip joint and distribution of congenital hip dysplasia were analyzed, and the treatment effect was followed up. Results: Among 1,313 infants and young children with suspected congenital hip dysplasia, the positive rate of congenital hip dysplasia was 6.02% (79/1,313). The lesions were located on both sides in 14 cases, on the left side in 67 cases, and on the right side in 26 cases. The a angle of cases with congenital hip dysplasia was significantly lower than that of normal cases, and the 13 angle was significantly higher than that of normal cases (P<0.05). Ultrasound follow-up results showed that out of 24 cases who underwent hip abduction exercises, 22 (91.67%) returned to normal, and the remaining 2 returned to normal after Pavlik sling treatment. Among 46 cases treated with Pavlik sling, 42 (91.30%) returned to normal, and the remaining 4 cases returned to normal after closed reduction and plaster fixation. A total of 9 participants underwent plaster fixation after dosed reduction, all of which returned to normal. Conclusions: Ultrasound Graf method can be used as the first choice for screening infants and young children with congenital hip dysplasia. It can be followed up to observe the clinical treatment effect, and it has high clinical application value.
Semi-supervised learning in diagnosis of infant hip dysplasia towards multisource ultrasound images

Abstract:Background: Automated diagnosis of infant hip dysplasia is heavily affected by the individual differences among infants and ultrasound machines. Methods: Hip sonographic images of 493 infants from various ultrasound machines were collected in the Department of Orthopedics in Yangzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Service Centre. Herein, we propose a semi-supervised learning method based on a feature pyramid network (FPN) and a contrastive learning scheme based on a Siamese architecture. A large amount of unlabeled data of ultrasound images was used via the Siamese network in the pre-training step, and then a small amount of annotated data for anatomical structures was adopted to train the model for landmark identification and standard plane recognition. The method was evaluated on our collected dataset. Results: The method achieved a mean Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 0.7873 and a mean Hausdorff distance (HD) of 5.0102 in landmark identification, compared to the model without contrastive learning, which had a mean DSC of 0.7734 and a mean HD of 6.1586. The accuracy, precision, and recall of standard plane recognition were 95.4%, 91.64%, and 94.86%, respectively. The corresponding area under the curve (AUC) was 0.982. Conclusions: This study proposes a semi-supervised deep learning method following Graf's principle, which can better utilize a large volume of ultrasound images from various devices and infants. This method can identify the landmarks of infant hips more accurately than manual operators, thereby improving the efficiency of diagnosis of infant hip dysplasia.

Abstract:Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is one of the most common diseases in children. Due to the experience-requiring medical image analysis work, online automatic diagnosis of DDH has intrigued the researchers. Traditional implementation of online diagnosis faces challenges with reliability and interpretability. In this paper, we establish an online diagnosis tool based on a multi-task hourglass network, which can accurately extract landmarks to detect the extent of hip dislocation and predict the age of the femoral head. Our method utilizes a multi-task hourglass network, which trains an encoder-decoder network to regress the landmarks and predict the developmental age for online DDH diagnosis. With the support of precise image analysis and fast GPU computing, our method can help overcome the shortage of medical resources and enable telehealth for DDH diagnosis. Applying this approach to a dataset of DDH X-ray images, we demonstrate 4.64 mean pixel error of landmark detection compared to the results of human experts. Moreover, we can improve the accuracy of the age prediction of femoral heads to 89 % . Our online automatic diagnosis system has provided service to 112 patients, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
Joint Landmark and Structure Learning for Automatic Evaluation of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

Abstract:The ultrasound (US) screening of the infant hip is vital for the early diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The US diagnosis of DDH refers to measuring alpha and beta angles that quantify hip joint development. These two angles are calculated from key anatomical landmarks and structures of the hip. However, this measurement process is not trivial for sonographers and usually requires a thorough understanding of complex anatomical structures. In this study, we propose a multi-task framework to learn the relationships among landmarks and structures jointly and automatically evaluate DDH. Our multi-task networks are equipped with three novel modules. Firstly, we adopt Mask R-CNN as the basic framework to detect and segment key anatomical structures and add one landmark detection branch to form a new multi-task framework. Secondly, we propose a novel shape similarity loss to refine the incomplete anatomical structure prediction robustly and accurately. Thirdly, we further incorporate the landmark-structure consistent prior to ensure the consistency of the bony rim estimated from the segmented structure and the detected landmark. In our experiments, 1231 US images of the infant hip from 632 patients are collected, of which 247 images from 126 patients are tested. The average errors in alpha and beta angles are 2.221 ° and 2.899 °. About 93% and 85% estimates of alpha and beta angles have errors less than 5 degrees, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately and robustly realize the automatic evaluation of DDH, showing great potential for clinical application.
An automated framework for pediatric hip surveillance and severity assessment using radiographs

Abstract:Purpose: Hip dysplasia is the second most common orthopedic condition in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and may result in disability and pain. The migration percentage (MP) is a widely used metric in hip surveillance, calculated based on an anterior-posterior pelvis radiograph. However, manual quantification of MP values using hip X-ray scans in current standard practice has challenges including being time-intensive, requiring expert knowledge, and not considering human bias. The purpose of this study is to develop a machine learning algorithm to automatically quantify MP values using a hip X-ray scan, and hence provide an assessment for severity, which then can be used for surveillance, treatment planning, and management. Methods: X-ray scans from 210 patients were curated, pre-processed, and manually annotated at our clinical center. Several machine learning models were trained using pre-trained weights from Inception ResNet-V2, VGG-16, and VGG-19, with different strategies (pre-processing, with and without region of interest (ROI) detection, with and without data augmentation) to find an optimal model for automatic hip landmarking. The predicted landmarks were then used by our geometric algorithm to quantify the MP value for the input hip X-ray scan. Results: The pre-trained VGG-19 model, fine-tuned with additional custom layers, outputted the lowest mean squared error values for both train and test data, when ROI cropped images were used along with data augmentation for model training. The MP value calculated by the algorithm was compared to manual ground truth labels from our orthopedic fellows using the hip screen application for benchmarking. Conclusion: The results showed the feasibility of the machine learning model in automatic hip landmark detection for reliably quantifying MP value from hip X-ray scans. The algorithm could be used as an accurate and reliable tool in orthopedic care for diagnosing, severity assessment, and hence treatment and surgical planning for hip displacement.

Abstract:The B-mode ultrasound (BUS) based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) has shown its effectiveness for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in infants. In this work, a two-stage meta-learning based deep exclusivity regularized machine (TML-DERM) is proposed for the BUS-based CAD of DDH. TML-DERM integrates deep neural network (DNN) and exclusivity regularized machine into a unified framework to simultaneously improve the feature representation and classification performance. Moreover, the first-stage meta-learning is mainly conducted on the DNN module to alleviate the overfitting issue caused by the significantly increased parameters in DNN, and a random sampling strategy is adopted to self-generate the meta-tasks; while the second-stage meta-learning mainly learns the combination of multiple weak classifiers by a weight vector to improve the classification performance, and also optimizes the unified framework again. The experimental results on a DDH ultrasound dataset show the proposed TML-DERM algorithm achieves the superior classification performance with the mean accuracy of 85.89%, sensitivity of 86.54%, and specificity of 85.23%.

Abstract:Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common pediatric orthopedic condition characterized by varying degrees of acetabular dysplasia and hip dislocation. Current 2D imaging methods often fail to provide sufficient anatomical detail for effective treatment planning, leading to higher rates of misdiagnosis and missed diagnoses. MRI, with its advantages of being radiation-free, multi-planar, and containing more anatomical information, can provide the crucial morphological and volumetric data needed to evaluate DDH. However, manual techniques for measuring parameters like the center–edge angle (CEA) and acetabular index (AI) are time-consuming. Automating these processes is essential for accurate clinical assessments and personalized treatment strategies.

Abstract:Background/Objectives: The prevalence of developmental hip dysplasia is estimated to be 0.1–2 per 1000 infants. Hip imaging by ultrasonography is considered to be the gold standard method for screening and detecting developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), as per the Graf categorization. The classification of hip differentiation into type 1 and type 2 is determined by the alpha angle, as assessed by the Graf classification. Type 1 hips are defined as those with an alpha angle exceeding 60 degrees, whilst type 2 hips are defined as those with measurements falling within the range of 50 to 59 degrees. Methods: The computerized patient card in our institution had a compilation of 208 hip photographs taken from 110 patients, with 98 of them being bilateral. The acquisition of these photos occurred from January 2020 to December 2020. A retrospective review was conducted on the ultrasound (US) scans, with a specific emphasis on the outcomes related to type 1 and type 2 hips. Results: There were 108 high-resolution US photos in the type 1 hip group and 100 high-resolution US images in the type 2 hip group. In terms of unilateral or bilateral cases, gender, or age, no statistically significant differences were seen between the two groups (p > 0.05). The FMD model exhibited a sensitivity of 86% and specificity of 70% in effectively predicting the presence of type 1 mature hips when the values surpassed 2.9 mm. The AUC (area under the curve) value achieved was 0.628. Conclusions: The process of diagnostic categorization may occasionally encounter challenges in accurately differentiating between type 1 and type 2 hip separation subsequent to a hip ultrasound examination. The findings of our analysis indicate that the assessment of the FMD is a highly successful method, demonstrating both high specificity and sensitivity in differentiating between various scenarios.
