Abstract:With the development of smart agriculture, deep learning is playing an increasingly important role in crop disease recognition. The existing crop disease recognition models are mainly based on convolutional neural networks (CNN). Although traditional CNN models have excellent performance in modeling local relationships, it is difficult to extract global features. This study combines the advantages of CNN in extracting local disease information and vision transformer in obtaining global receptive fields to design a hybrid model called MSCVT. The model incorporates the multiscale self-attention module, which combines multiscale convolution and self-attention mechanisms and enables the fusion of local and global features at both the shallow and deep levels of the model. In addition, the model uses the inverted residual block to replace normal convolution to maintain a low number of parameters. To verify the validity and adaptability of MSCVT in the crop disease dataset, experiments were conducted in the PlantVillage dataset and the Apple Leaf Pathology dataset, and obtained results with recognition accuracies of 99.86% and 97.50%, respectively. In comparison with other CNN models, the proposed model achieved advanced performance in both cases. The experimental results show that MSCVT can obtain high recognition accuracy in crop disease recognition and shows excellent adaptability in multidisease recognition and small-scale disease recognition.

Abstract:The amino-terminal fragments of human PTH [hPTH-(1-34)] and PTH-related peptide [PTHrP-(1-34)] appear to be equipotent in several rodent models. However, continuous i.v. infusions of these peptides to young human volunteers suggested that a 10-fold higher molar dose of PTHrP was required to produce comparable circulating levels of the peptide and biochemical responses similar to PTH. As PTHrP has a wide variety of target tissues in mammalian species and may, therefore, play a paracrine, rather than an endocrine, hormonal role in vivo, we evaluated whether enhanced metabolic clearance of injected PTHrP might explain its apparently reduced potency as a PTH-like hormone. Ten healthy subjects [age, 25 +/- 9 (+/- SD) yr] received in random order either hPTH-(1-34) or hPTHrP-(1-34) given by bolus i.v. injections in a dose of 10.7 nmol. Measurements of plasma immunoreactive peptide indicated a comparable volume of distribution for each, but the apparent t1/2 (8.3 +/- 1.6 min) and plasma clearance (4.0 +/- 1.4 L/min) for hPTHrP were significantly (P < 0.05) accelerated compared to those of hPTH (t1/2, 10.2 +/- 0.5 min; clearance, 2.0 +/- 0.4 L/min). Peak plasma cAMP levels were 9-fold lower in response to hPTHrP (29.5 +/- 19 vs. 190 +/- 63 pmol/L; P < 0.01), and increases in urinary cAMP excretion were 5-fold lower (2.1 +/- 1.1 vs. 11.2 +/- 3.7 nmol/mmol creatinine; P < 0.01). No major differences were observed in the urinary excretion of phosphate, calcium, or sodium between the two peptides. Although hPTHrP-(1-34) has a 2-fold higher MCR than hPTH-(1-34), this may not explain the more than 5-fold lower plasma or urinary cAMP response to PTHrP in humans. The comparable effects of PTH and PTHrP on urinary phosphate, calcium, and sodium may indicate a non-cAMP-dependent pathway for these responses, although the intracellular pool of cAMP generated to either peptide, and thus the local target tissue response, could not be estimated in the present study.

Abstract:It is of great practical significance to quickly, accurately, and effectively identify the effects of rice diseases on rice yield. This paper proposes a rice disease identification method based on an improved DenseNet network (DenseNet). This method uses DenseNet as the benchmark model and uses the channel attention mechanism squeeze-and-excitation to strengthen the favorable features, while suppressing the unfavorable features. Then, depth wise separable convolutions are introduced to replace some standard convolutions in the dense network to improve the parameter utilization and training speed. Using the AdaBound algorithm, combined with the adaptive optimization method, the parameter adjustment time reduces. In the experiments on five kinds of rice disease datasets, the average classification accuracy of the method in this paper is 99.4%, which is 13.8 percentage points higher than the original model. At the same time, it is compared with other existing recognition methods, such as ResNet, VGG, and Vision Transformer. The recognition accuracy of this method is higher, realizes the effective classification of rice disease images, and provides a new method for the development of crop disease identification technology and smart agriculture.

Abstract:Cassava is a crucial food and nutrition security crop cultivated by small-scale farmers and it can survive in a brutal environment. It is a significant source of carbohydrates in African countries. Sometimes, Cassava crops can be infected by leaf diseases, affecting the overall production and reducing farmers’ income. The existing Cassava disease research encounters several challenges, such as poor detection rate, higher processing time, and poor accuracy. This research provides a comprehensive learning strategy for real-time Cassava leaf disease identification based on enhanced CNN models (ECNN). The existing Standard CNN model utilizes extensive data processing features, increasing the computational overhead. A depth-wise separable convolution layer is utilized to resolve CNN issues in the proposed ECNN model. This feature minimizes the feature count and computational overhead. The proposed ECNN model utilizes a distinct block processing feature to process the imbalanced images. To resolve the color segregation issue, the proposed ECNN model uses a Gamma correction feature. To decrease the variable selection process and increase the computational efficiency, the proposed ECNN model uses global average election polling with batch normalization. An experimental analysis is performed over an online Cassava image dataset containing 6256 images of Cassava leaves with five disease classes. The dataset classes are as follows: class 0: “Cassava Bacterial Blight (CBB)”; class 1: “Cassava Brown Streak Disease (CBSD)”; class 2: “Cassava Green Mottle (CGM)”; class 3: “Cassava Mosaic Disease (CMD)”; and class 4: “Healthy”. Various performance measuring parameters, i.e., precision, recall, measure, and accuracy, are calculated for existing Standard CNN and the proposed ECNN model. The proposed ECNN classifier significantly outperforms and achieves 99.3% accuracy for the balanced dataset. The test findings prove that applying a balanced database of images improves classification performance.

Abstract:Introduction: Corn is one of the world's essential crops, and the presence of corn diseases significantly affects both the yield and quality of corn. Accurate identification of corn diseases in real time is crucial to increasing crop yield and improving farmers' income. However, in real-world environments, the complexity of the background, irregularity of the disease region, large intraclass variation, and small interclass variation make it difficult for most convolutional neural network models to achieve disease recognition under such conditions. Additionally, the low accuracy of existing lightweight models forces farmers to compromise between accuracy and real-time. Methods: To address these challenges, we propose FCA-EfficientNet. Building upon EfficientNet, the fully-convolution-based coordinate attention module allows the network to acquire spatial information through convolutional structures. This enhances the network's ability to focus on disease regions while mitigating interference from complex backgrounds. Furthermore, the adaptive fusion module is employed to fuse image information from different scales, reducing interference from the background in disease recognition. Finally, through multiple experiments, we have determined the network structure that achieves optimal performance. Results: Compared to other widely used deep learning models, this proposed model exhibits outstanding performance in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. Furthermore, the model has a parameter count of 3.44M and Flops of 339.74M, which is lower than most lightweight network models. We designed and implemented a corn disease recognition application and deployed the model on an Android device with an average recognition speed of 92.88ms, which meets the user's needs. Discussion: Overall, our model can accurately identify corn diseases in realistic environments, contributing to timely and effective disease prevention and control.

Crop Disease Recognition Based on Modified Light-Weight CNN With Attention Mechanism

Abstract:The agricultural production is greatly affected by various plant diseases. Classifying the severity of crop diseases is the requirement for formulating disease prevention and control strategies. However, the differences between different severity of the same crop disease are very tiny. It increases the difficulty of correct crop disease recognition. For example, at the early stage of the disease, the lesions on the leaves are not obvious. And it is very difficult to extract the features of the lesions. However, these very small color and texture differences of the lesions are the key patterns to distinguish different kinds of diseases of the same species. In order to achieve better performance in the fine-grained classification of the crop diseases, a modified light-weight convolution neural network was proposed. Multi-scale convolution kernel and coordinate attention mechanism are introduced in SqueezeNext to extract the features of the lesions accurately. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated using the AI challenger 2018 plant disease recognition dataset, and the recognition accuracy can reach 91.94%, which is 3.02% point higher than the original SqueezeNext model. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model, comparative experiments were carried out using ReseNet50, Xception and mobilenetv2. The experimental results showed that the accuracy of the proposed method was slightly better than Xception, while the model size is only 2.83 MB, which is only 3.45% of Xception. The proposed method balances the performance and efficiency very well. Thus, it is suitable for deployment on mobile terminals and other embedded resource-constrained devices, which help to promote the popularization of smart agriculture application.

A lightweight dual-attention network for tomato leaf disease identification

Abstract:Tomato disease image recognition plays a crucial role in agricultural production. Today, while machine vision methods based on deep learning have achieved some success in disease recognition, they still face several challenges. These include issues such as imbalanced datasets, unclear disease features, small inter-class differences, and large intra-class variations. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a method for classifying and recognizing tomato leaf diseases based on machine vision. First, to enhance the disease feature details in images, a piecewise linear transformation method is used for image enhancement, and oversampling is employed to expand the dataset, compensating for the imbalanced dataset. Next, this paper introduces a convolutional block with a dual attention mechanism called DAC Block, which is used to construct a lightweight model named LDAMNet. The DAC Block innovatively uses Hybrid Channel Attention (HCA) and Coordinate Attention (CSA) to process channel information and spatial information of input images respectively, enhancing the model's feature extraction capabilities. Additionally, this paper proposes a Robust Cross-Entropy (RCE) loss function that is robust to noisy labels, aimed at reducing the impact of noisy labels on the LDAMNet model during training. Experimental results show that this method achieves an average recognition accuracy of 98.71% on the tomato disease dataset, effectively retaining disease information in images and capturing disease areas. Furthermore, the method also demonstrates strong recognition capabilities on rice crop disease datasets, indicating good generalization performance and the ability to function effectively in disease recognition across different crops. The research findings of this paper provide new ideas and methods for the field of crop disease recognition. However, future research needs to further optimize the model's structure and computational efficiency, and validate its application effects in more practical scenarios.

Abstract:In recent years, deep learning-based plant disease classification has been widely developed. However, it is challenging to collect sufficient annotated image data to effectively train deep learning models for plant disease recognition. The attention mechanism in deep learning assists the model to focus on the informative data segments and extract the discriminative features of inputs to enhance training performance. This paper investigates the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to improve classification with CNNs, which is a lightweight attention module that can be plugged into any CNN architecture with negligible overhead. Specifically, CBAM is applied to the output feature map of CNNs to highlight important local regions and extract more discriminative features. Well-known CNN models (i.e. EfficientNetB0, MobileNetV2, ResNet50, InceptionV3, and VGG19) were applied to do transfer learning for plant disease classification and then fine-tuned by a publicly available plant disease dataset of foliar diseases in pear trees called DiaMOS Plant. Amongst others, this dataset contains 3006 images of leaves affected by different stress symptoms. Among the tested CNNs, EfficientNetB0 has shown the best performance. EfficientNetB0+CBAM has outperformed EfficientNetB0 and obtained 86.89% classification accuracy. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the attention mechanism to improve the recognition accuracy of pre-trained CNNs when there are few training data.

Abstract:Since plant diseases occurring during the growth process are a significant factor leading to the decline in both yield and quality, the classification and detection of plant leaf diseases, followed by timely prevention and control measures, are crucial for safeguarding plant productivity and quality. As the traditional convolutional neural network structure cannot effectively recognize similar plant leaf diseases, in order to more accurately identify the diseases on plant leaves, this paper proposes an effective plant disease image recognition method aECA-ResNet34. This method is based on ResNet34, and in the first and the last layers of this network, respectively, we add this paper's improved aECAnet with the symmetric structure. aECA-ResNet34 is compared with different plant disease classification models on the peanut dataset constructed in this paper and the open-source PlantVillage dataset. The experimental results show that the aECA-ResNet34 model proposed in this paper has higher accuracy, better performance, and better robustness. The results show that the aECA-ResNet34 model proposed in this paper is able to recognize diseases of multiple plant leaves very accurately.

Abstract:Crop disease has been a severe issue for agriculture, causing economic loss for growers. Thus, disease identification urgently needs to be addressed, especially for precision agriculture. As of today, deep learning has been widely used for crop disease identification combined with optical imaging sensors. In this study, a lightweight convolutional neural network model is designed and validated on two publicly available imaging datasets and one self-built dataset with 28 types of leaf and leaf disease images of 6 crops as the research object. This model is an improvement of the existing convolutional neural network, reducing the floating-point operations by 65%. In addition, dilated depth-wise convolutions were used to increase the network receptive field and improve the model recognition accuracy without affecting the network computational speed. Meanwhile, two attention mechanisms are optimized to reduce attention module computation, improving the capability of the model to select the correct regions of interest. After training, this model achieved an average accuracy of 99.86%, and the image calculation speed was 0.173 s. Comparing with 11 backbone models and 5 latest crop leaf disease identification studies, the proposed model achieved the highest accuracy. Therefore, this model with an advantage of balancing between the calculation speed and recognition accuracy. Furthermore, the proposed model provides a theoretical basis and technical support for the practical application and mobile terminal applications of crop disease recognition in precision agriculture.

Abstract:The correct diagnosis and recognition of crop diseases play an important role in ensuring crop yields and preventing food safety. The existing methods for crop disease recognition mainly focus on accuracy while ignoring the algorithm’s robustness. In practice, the acquired images are often accompanied by various noises. These noises lead to a huge challenge for improving the robustness and accuracy of the recognition algorithm. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a residual self-calibration and self-attention aggregation network (RCAA-Net) for crop disease recognition in actual scenarios. The proposed RCAA-Net is composed of three main modules: (1) multi-scale residual module, (2) feedback self-calibration module, and (3) self-attention aggregation module. Specifically, the multi-scale residual module is designed to learn multi-scale features and provide both global and local information for the appearance of the disease to improve the performance of the model. The feedback self-calibration is proposed to improve the robustness of the model by suppressing the background noise in the original deep features. The self-attention aggregation module is introduced to further improve the robustness and accuracy of the model by capturing multi-scale information in different semantic spaces. The experimental results on the challenging 2018ai_challenger crop disease recognition dataset show that the proposed RCAA-Net achieves state-of-the-art performance on robustness and accuracy for crop disease recognition in actual scenarios.

The Function of Crop pest and disease identification based on the improved ConvNeXt Network model

Abstract:A ConvNeXt-ECA network model based on the improved ConvNeXt network is designed for the problem that the pest identification method based on traditional machine learning and simple neural network is not ideal for crop pest identification with unbalanced data, unclear features and multiple categories. The model is based on the ConvNeXt network model as the backbone network, using migration learning to achieve the sharing of pre-trained weight parameters and combining with the attention mechanism to enhance the feature fusion capability. Finally, 16 plant species with a total of 27 types of diseases were studied with a total of 34,200 images, and the training set, validation set and test set were divided in the ratio of 6:2:2. The model converged significantly faster during the experimental training compared with VGG19, GoogLeNet, ResNet50 and ConvNeXt networks. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the improved ConvNeXt network-based crop pest and disease intelligent recognition model reaches 96.73%, while the ablation experiments demonstrate the improvement of the model performance by the optimization method proposed in this paper.

Identification of plant leaf diseases by deep learning based on channel attention and channel pruning

Abstract:Plant diseases cause significant economic losses and food security in agriculture each year, with the critical path to reducing losses being accurate identification and timely diagnosis of plant diseases. Currently, deep neural networks have been extensively applied in plant disease identification, but such approaches still suffer from low identification accuracy and numerous parameters. Hence, this paper proposes a model combining channel attention and channel pruning called CACPNET, suitable for disease identification of common species. The channel attention mechanism adopts a local cross-channel strategy without dimensionality reduction, which is inserted into a ResNet-18-based model that combines global average pooling with global max pooling to effectively improve the features' extracting ability of plant leaf diseases. Based on the model's optimum feature extraction condition, unimportant channels are removed to reduce the model's parameters and complexity via the L1-norm channel weight and local compression ratio. The accuracy of CACPNET on the public dataset PlantVillage reaches 99.7% and achieves 97.7% on the local peanut leaf disease dataset. Compared with the base ResNet-18 model, the floating point operations (FLOPs) decreased by 30.35%, the parameters by 57.97%, the model size by 57.85%, and the GPU RAM requirements by 8.3%. Additionally, CACPNET outperforms current models considering inference time and throughput, reaching 22.8 ms/frame and 75.5 frames/s, respectively. The results outline that CACPNET is appealing for deployment on edge devices to improve the efficiency of precision agriculture in plant disease detection.
Image recognition technology of crop diseases based on neural network model fusion

Abstract:The neural network is an important model of machine learning that utilizes a hierarchical structure composed of multiple neurons to fit complex nonlinear classification surfaces. Deep learning is a new direction in the field of machine learning. Learning the inherent laws and representation levels of sample data, the information obtained during the learning process plays a great role in interpreting data such as images and speech. The crop disease image recognition technology based on the neural network model is studied to develop a system with an improved accuracy. First, we analyze the background and significance of image recognition technology applied to crops; then, on the basis of understanding the general background, the pattern recognition method based on the image is deeply studied; and, finally, the experimental design of crop disease image recognition based on convolutional neural network (CNN) is tested. The experimental results show that, in the problem of disease identification, compared with a single CNN model, the proposed model further improves the highest verification accuracy. The integration of DenseNet and the visual geometry group model has the best effect on cucumber and rice disease identification, and the verification accuracy can reach 96.24%.

DFCANet: A Novel Lightweight Convolutional Neural Network Model for Corn Disease Identification

Abstract:The identification of corn leaf diseases in a real field environment faces several difficulties, such as complex background disturbances, variations and irregularities in the lesion areas, and large intra-class and small inter-class disparities. Traditional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models have a low recognition accuracy and a large number of parameters. In this study, a lightweight corn disease identification model called DFCANet (Double Fusion block with Coordinate Attention Network) is proposed. The DFCANet consists mainly of two components: The dual feature fusion with coordinate attention and the Down-Sampling (DS) modules. The DFCA block contains dual feature fusion and Coordinate Attention (CA) modules. In order to completely fuse the shallow and deep features, these features were fused twice. The CA module suppresses the background noise and focuses on the diseased area. In addition, the DS module is used for down-sampling. It reduces the loss of information by expanding the feature channel dimension and the Depthwise convolution. The results show that DFCANet has an average recognition accuracy of 98.47%. It is more efficient at identifying corn leaf diseases in real scene images, compared with VGG16 (96.63%), ResNet50 (93.27%), EffcientNet-B0 (97.24%), ConvNeXt-B (94.18%), DenseNet121 (95.71%), MobileNet-V2 (95.41%), MobileNetv3-Large (96.33%), and ShuffleNetV2-1.0× (94.80%) methods. Moreover, the model’s Params and Flops are 1.91M and 309.1M, respectively, which are lower than heavyweight network models and most lightweight network models. In general, this study provides a novel, lightweight, and efficient convolutional neural network model for corn disease identification.
Fine-Grained Image Classification for Crop Disease Based on Attention Mechanism

Abstract:Fine-grained image classification is a challenging task because of the difficulty in identifying discriminant features, it is not easy to find the subtle features that fully represent the object. In the fine-grained classification of crop disease, visual disturbances such as light, fog, overlap, and jitter are frequently encountered. To explore the influence of the features of crop leaf images on the classification results, a classification model should focus on the more discriminative regions of the image while improving the classification accuracy of the model in complex scenes. This paper proposes a novel attention mechanism that effectively utilizes the informative regions of an image, and describes the use of transfer learning to quickly construct several fine-grained image classification models of crop disease based on this attention mechanism. This study uses 58,200 crop leaf images as a dataset, including 14 different crops and 37 different categories of healthy/diseased crops. Among them, different diseases of the same crop have strong similarities. The NASNetLarge fine-grained classification model based on the proposed attention mechanism achieves the best classification effect, with an F 1 score of up to 93.05%. The results show that the proposed attention mechanism effectively improves the fine-grained classification of crop disease images.

Improved MobileNetV2 crop disease identification model for intelligent agriculture

Abstract:Using intelligent agriculture is an important way for the industry to achieve high-quality development. To improve the accuracy of the identification of crop diseases under conditions of limited computing resources, such as in mobile and edge computing, we propose an improved lightweight MobileNetV2 crop disease identification model. In this study, MobileNetV2 is used as the backbone network for the application of an improved Bottleneck structure. First, the number of operation channels is reduced using point-by-point convolution, the number of parameters of the model is reduced, and the re-parameterized multilayer perceptron (RepMLP) module is introduced; the latter can capture long-distance dependencies between features and obtain local a priori information to enhance the global perception of the model. Second, the efficient channel-attention mechanism is added to adjust the image-feature channel weights so as to improve the recognition accuracy of the model, and the Hardswish activation function is introduced instead of the ReLU6 activation function to further improve performance. The final experimental results show that the improved MobilNetV2 model achieves 99.53% accuracy in the PlantVillage crop disease dataset, which is 0.3% higher than the original model, and the number of covariates is only 0.9M, which is 59% less than the original model. Also, the inference speed is improved by 8.5% over the original model. The crop disease identification method proposed in this article provides a reference for deployment and application on edge and mobile devices.

Corn Plant Disease Recognition Based on Migration Learning and Convolutional Neural Network

Abstract:Corn is one of the most important food crops in China, and the occurrence of disease will result in serious yield reduction. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of corn disease is an important link in corn production. Under the background of big data, massive image data are generated. The traditional image recognition method has a low accuracy in identifying corn plant diseases, which is far from meeting the needs. With the development of artificial intelligence and deep learning, convolutional neural network, as a common algorithm in deep learning, is widely used to deal with machine vision problems. It can automatically identify and extract image features. However, in image classification, CNN still has problems such as small sample size, high sample similarity and long training convergence time. CNN has the limitations of expression ability and lack of feedback mechanism, and data enhancement and transfer learning can solve the corresponding problems. Therefore, this research proposed an optimization algorithm for corn plant disease recognition based on the convolution neural network recognition model combining data enhancement and transfer learning. Firstly, the algorithm preprocessed the data through the data enhancement method to expand the data set, so as to improve the generalization and accuracy of the model. Then, the CNN model based on transfer learning was constructed. The Inception V3 model was adopted through transfer learning to extract the image characteristics of the disease while keeping the parameters unchanged. In this way, the training process of the convolutional neural network was accelerated and the over-fitting degree of the network was reduced. The extracted image features were used as input of the CNN to train the network, and finally the recognition results were obtained. Finally, the model was applied to the pictures of corn diseases collected from the farmland to accurately identify five kinds of corn diseases. Identification test results showed that using data to enhance the CNN optimization algorithm and the migration study on the average recognition accuracy main diseases of com (spot, southern leaf blight, gray leaf spot, smut, gall smut) reached 96.6%, which compared with single CNN, has greatly improved the precision and identification precision by 25.6% on average. The average processing time of each image was 0.28 s, shortens nearly 10 times than a single convolution neural network. The experimental results show that the algorithm is more accurate and faster than the traditional CNN, which provides a new method for identification of corn plant diseases.

Abstract:Plant diseases have a significant impact on global food security and the world's agricultural economy. Their early detection and classification increase the chances of setting up effective control measures, which is why the search for automatic systems that allow this is of major interest to our society. Several recent studies have reported promising results in the classification of plant diseases from RGB images on the basis of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). These studies have been successfully experimented on a large number of crops and symptoms, and they have shown significant advantages in the support of human expertise. However, the CNN models still have limitations. In particular, CNN models do not necessarily focus on the visible parts affected by a plant disease to allow their classification, and they can sometimes take into account irrelevant backgrounds or healthy plant parts. In this paper, we therefore develop a new technique based on a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to automatically locate infected regions and extract relevant features for disease classification. We show experimentally that our RNN-based approach is more robust and has a greater ability to generalize to unseen infected crop species as well as to different plant disease domain images compared to classical CNN approaches. We also analyze the focus of attention as learned by our RNN and show that our approach is capable of accurately locating infectious diseases in plants. Our approach, which has been tested on a large number of plant species, should thus contribute to the development of more effective means of detecting and classifying crop pathogens in the near future.

Abstract:Maize small leaf spot (Bipolaris maydis) is one of the most important diseases of maize. The severity of the disease cannot be accurately identified, the cost of pesticide application increases every year, and the agricultural ecological environment is polluted. Therefore, in order to solve this problem, this study proposes a novel deep learning network DISE-Net. We designed a dilated-inception module instead of the traditional inception module for strengthening the performance of multi-scale feature extraction, then embedded the attention module to learn the importance of interchannel relationships for input features. In addition, a dense connection strategy is used in model building to strengthen channel feature propagation. In this paper, we constructed a data set of maize small leaf spot, including 1268 images of four disease grades and healthy leaves. Comparative experiments show that DISE-Net with a test accuracy of 97.12% outperforms the classical VGG16 (91.11%), ResNet50 (89.77%), InceptionV3 (90.97%), MobileNetv1 (92.51%), MobileNetv2 (92.17%) and DenseNet121 (94.25%). In addition, Grad-Cam network visualization also shows that DISE-Net is able to pay more attention to the key areas in making the decision. The results showed that the DISE-Net was suitable for the classification of maize small leaf spot in the field.
