Abstract:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become the main cause of end-stage liver disease. Probiotics have the potential effect of alleviating NAFLD. The aim of this study was to explore functional probiotics and their underlying mechanisms. The bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity in thirty-four strains was determined in vitro. Then, C57BL/6 mice were used to explore the effects of probiotics on NAFLD. Body weight and food intake were measured, and serum lipid concentrations, oxidative stress and proinflammatory cytokines levels were determined using commercial kits. The expressions of intestinal bile acid pathway genes were evaluated via real-time PCR. The results showed that Lactobacillus casei YRL577 and L. paracasei X11 had higher BSH activity. L. casei YRL577 significantly reduced liver weight and liver index and could regulate the levels of lipid metabolism, oxidative stress and proinflammatory cytokines as compared with L. paracasei X11. Furthermore, the results indicated that L. casei YRL577 up-regulated the mRNA levels of farnesoid X receptor and fibroblast growth factor 15, whereas down-regulated the mRNA level of apical Na-dependent bile acid transporter. These findings suggested that L. casei YRL577 modified genes in the intestinal bile acid pathway which might contribute to the alleviation of NAFLD.
Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 attenuates obesity in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

Abstract:Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 relieved high fat diet induced obesity. Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 decreased body weight, fat accumulation and hyperlipidemia by increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria (Allobaculum and L. Zeae) and decreased harmful bacteria (Turicibacter). Disruption of the microbial structure of intestinal bacteria due to a high‐fat diet (HFD) is closely associated with metabolic disorders, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Probiotics are known to modulate the gut microbiota; therefore, we demonstrated the capability of Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 (LC‐N1115) to attenuate obesity. Four‐week‐old male C57BL/6J mice were fed a HFD for 12 weeks to induce obesity and were then randomized to supplemented placebo or LC‐N1115 treatment group for another 12 weeks. LC‐N1115 treatment reduced weight gain and liver fat accumulation as well as triglyceride, total cholesterol, and low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. The administration of LC‐N1115 suppressed the expression of fatty acid synthase, interleukin‐1 β, and toll‐like receptor 4. Notably, the operational taxonomic units that negatively and positively correlated with the obesity phenotypes were enriched and reduced, respectively, in the LC‐N1115 treatment group. These results indicate that LC‐N1115 attenuates obesity by modulating the gut microbiota and the expression of lipid synthesis and proinflammatory cytokine genes.

Abstract:This study investigated the effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei K56 (L. paracasei K56) on body weight, body composition, and glycolipid metabolism in mice with high-fat diet-induced obesity and explored the underlying mechanisms. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks to induce obesity; then, the obese mice were gavaged with or without L. paracasei K56 for 10 weeks. The body weight, body composition, fat mass, blood lipid, blood glucose, and hormones of the mice were evaluated. Moreover, the fatty acid synthesis (FAS) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) expressions in the liver were detected via Western blotting. 16S rRNA gene sequencing was adopted to determine the gut microbiota alterations. The high-fat diet successfully induced obesity, as indicated by the abnormal increase in body weight, visceral fat, fat mass, blood lipids, fasting blood glucose, and insulin-resistance. Moreover, the FAS expression in the liver was significantly increased, whereas the PPAR-γ expression was significantly decreased. The relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria and Patescibacteria was also significantly increased, and that of Verrucomicrobia was significantly decreased. However, these indicators of mice supplemented with L. paracasei K56 were significantly opposite to those of obese mice. The Ruminococcuaceae_UCG-013, Akkermansia, Prevotellaceae_UCG-001, Muribaculum, and Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136 groups were significantly negatively correlated with body weight, blood lipids, and blood glucose-related indicators, whereas Coriobacteriaceae_UCG-002, Enterorhabdus, Raoultibacter, Acinetobacter, Romboutsia, Leuconostoc, and Erysipelatoclostridium were significantly positively correlated with these indicators. L. paracasei K56 might be a promising probiotic strain that could effectively slow down the body weight gain, reduce fat accumulation, alleviate insulin-resistance, and restore pancreatic β-cell function in obese mice by regulating the gut microbiota.

Abstract:While both probiotics and prebiotics have an important role in controlling obesity, the effectiveness of probiotic bacteria is strain dependent. Herein, we have examined the role of Lactobacillus paracasei strain K56 and prebiotic α-galactooligosaccharides in modulating metabolic consequences of obesity. To this end, we have employed high fat diet induced obesity in a mouse model. The results show that mice fed a high fat diet exhibited increased body weight, adiposity, and abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism. Treatment with L. paracasei K56 and/or α-galactooligosaccharides significantly decreased body and fat weights, particularly when α-galactooligosaccharide was combined with a high level of L. paracasei K56. In conclusion, the treatments with L. paracasei K56 and/or α-galactooligosaccharides significantly modulated against obesity and improved lipid metabolism.

Abstract:The consumption of a healthy diet is critical for maintaining and promoting human health. In the context of the rapid transformation from a high-fat diet (HFD) to a Mediterranean diet (MD) leading to major systemic changes, we explored the necessity of a transitional standard diet (TSD) between these two varied diets and the adjuvant effect of probiotics. HFD-fed mice were used for studying the changes and benefits of a dietary intervention and probiotic treatment. By measuring multiple systemic alterations such as weight (group B vs. group E, P < 0.05), liver function (AST, group C vs. group E, P < 0.001), and histopathology, we found that an MD, TSD and Bifidobacterium longum all contribute to alleviating lipid deposition and liver injury. The downregulation of IL-17 (group B vs. group E, P < 0.01) and MIP-1α (group B vs. group E, P < 0.001) also demonstrated the anti-inflammatory effects of the TSD. Moreover, we performed multi-omics analysis combined with the 16S sequencing, transcriptome and metabolome results and found that the TSD increased the abundance of the Lactobacillus genus (group C vs. group E, P < 0.01) and effectively lowered lipid accumulation and systemic inflammation. Furthermore, B. longum played an important role in the synergistic effect. The results showed that a TSD might be useful for HFD-induced obesity before drastic dietary changes, and probiotics were also beneficial.
Lactobacillus acidophilus CICC 6075 attenuates high-fat diet-induced obesity by improving gut microbiota composition and histidine biosynthesis

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the potential anti-obesity efficacy of Lactobacillus acidophilus CICC 6075. The study analyzed fecal metagenomic data from 120 obese and 100 non-obese individuals. C57BL/6 mice on normal diet or high-fat diet (HFD) were treated with L. acidophilus CICC 6075 by daily oral gavage for 12 weeks, followed by evaluations of the obesity phenotype. Metagenomic analysis revealed depletion of L. acidophilus in obese individuals. Administration of L. acidophilus CICC 6075 attenuated excessive weight gain and fat accumulation and maintained the intestinal barrier in HFD-induced obese mice. Sequencing results showed that HFD hindered α- and β-diversity while reducing the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and norank_f_Muribaculaceae and significantly increasing the relative abundance of Ileibacterium. L. acidophilus CICC 6075 reversed these results and reduced the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. Supplementation of L. acidophilus CICC 6075 enhanced histidine biosynthesis, inhibited the NF-κB pathway, and significantly reduced the expression levels of inflammatory factors in adipose tissue. These results indicate that L. acidophilus CICC 6075 alleviates HFD-induced obesity in mice by inhibiting the activation of the NF-κB pathway and enhancing gut microbiota functionality. This suggests that L. acidophilus CICC 6075 may be a good candidate probiotic for preventing obesity.

Abstract:Obesity is one of the most severe public health problems and may result in many other related diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Living habits, particularly excessive caloric intake, are a vital contributor to increasing obesity incidence worldwide. Recent studies have revealed an intimate cross-talk between living habits and the gut microbiome. The gut microbiome has also been identified as a critical player in the cause of obesity. Here we used 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing to investigate changes in the gut microbiome composition of mice fed with a high-fat diet (HFD). The total number of OTUs, Chao index, and Shannon index of the gut microbiome showed an increase in the abundance of specific gut microbiome species. Alternatively, Simpson index indicated a decrease in gut microbiome diversity after HFD feeding. We also found that HFD leads to augments in Firmicutes:Bacteroidetes ratio mainly caused by increased Firmicutes. The total abundance of Bacteroidetes was not changed at the phylum level, while at the family level, both Rikenellaceae and Bacteroidaceae showed a significant increase after the HFD. Additionally, after HFD, we found an increase in the abundance of Proteobacteria related to inflammation and a significant decrease in the proportion of Verrucomicrobia. Our results show that HFD induces a broad gut microbiome change in mice.

Abstract:Obesity, which is always accompanied by disorders of lipid metabolism and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, has become a global epidemic recognised by the World Health Organisation, necessitating innovative strategies and a globally accepted agreement on treating obesity and its related complications. Probiotics, as major active ingredients in many foods, offer potential as biological treatments for obesity prevention and management. Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) possesses a wide range of biological activities and is widely used to alleviate and ameliorate various diseases. This research demonstrated that Lactobacillus plantarum reduces the weight increase and fat build-up caused by a high-fat diet (HFD) in mice, while also improving glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in obese mice. Results indicated that L. plantarum effectively controlled the intestinal microbial community's structure, counteracted disruptions in gut flora caused by HFD, normalized the Firmicutes to Bacteroidota ratio (F/B), and decreased the prevalence of detrimental bacteria Desulfovibrio and Clostridia. Serum metabolomics findings indicate notable alterations in serum metabolites across various groups, notably the increased levels of Isoprothiolane and Inosine, key regulators of lipid metabolism disorders and enhancers of fat burning. These differential metabolites were mainly enriched in unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis, sulfur metabolism, fatty acid biosynthesis, and purine metabolism. Consequently, we propose that L. plantarum has the potential to alter the gut microbial community's composition, positioning it as a promising option for obesity therapy.

Abstract:Metabolic disorders and intestinal flora imbalance usually accompany obesity. Due to its diverse biological activities, Lactobacillus plantarum is widely used to alleviate various diseases as a probiotic. Here, we show that L. plantarum can reduce the body weight of mice fed high-fat diets, reduce fat accumulation, and enhance mice glucose tolerance. Our results show that L. plantarum can significantly reduce the expression of DGAT1 and DGAT2, increase the expression of Cpt1a, and promote the process of lipid metabolism. Further data show that L. plantarum can increase the SCFA content in the colon and reverse the intestinal flora disorder caused by HFD, increase the abundance of Bacteroides , and Bifidobacteriales , and reduce the abundance of Firmicutes and Clostridiales . Finally, through Pearson correlation analysis, we found that Bacteroides and SCFAs are positively correlated, while Clostridiales are negatively correlated with SCFAs. Therefore, we believe that L. plantarum can regulate the structure of the intestinal microbial community, increase the production of SCFAs and thus regulate lipid metabolism.

First European Experience Using Excimer Laser for the Extraction of Permanent Pacemaker Leads

Abstract:An Excimer Laser system for the extraction of permanent pacemaker leads has been developed by Spectranetics Inc. and Dr. Charles L. Byrd. The laser energy is emitted at the tip of a flexible, fiberoptic 12F sheath that permits the removal of leads with a max outer diameter of 7.1F. The CVX‐300 Excimer Laser source is a xenon chloride laser with an output of 308 nm not visible to the human eye. This cool cutting laser has an absorption depth of 0.06 mm, the energy being absorbed by proteins and lipids. In clinical practice this means that the fibrotic sheaths usually surrotinding the leads can be cut without damaging the endothelial wall or the insulation of leads, due to these characteristics the sheath can, however, not pass over tines. For the freeing of lead tips, locking stylets and outer sheaths are combined to perform counter traction. Results: From 8/96 to 5/97 50 leads (38 atrial, 12 ventricular) from 45 patients (22 females, 23 males, mean age 65.1 years, range 32–94) were extracted using the Excimer Laser at our institution. Mean lead implantation time was 47.7 months (range 10.5–351.7). Indication for extraction was suspected J‐wire fracture in 16 leads, prophylactic in 8 leads, infection in 12 leads, exit block in 4 leads and other reasons in 10 leads. Mean extraction time, excluding reimplantation, was 10 minutes (range 1–50). The objective of the procedure (normally complete lead removal) was accomplished in all cases but three. All intended lead replacements were successful. No complications occurred. All patients left the hospital in good condition, one patient died, within 30 days due to progressive heart failure. Conclusions: Lead extraction with Excimer Laser seems to be a safe and efficacious procedure. However, due to the inherent risks appropriate training and experience are essential. If the initial promising results can be maintained, indications for the removal of permanent pacing leads may widen considerably.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Excessive consumption of dietary fat is closely related to obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Recently, probiotics have been highly proposed as biotherapeutic to treat and prevent diseases. Previously, there are studies that demonstrated the beneficial effects of probiotics against metabolic disorders, including obesity and diabetes.OBJECTIVE: We investigated the anti-obesity effect and mechanism of action of four human-derived lactic acid bacterial (LAB) strains (Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus MG4502, Lactobacillus gasseri MG4524, Limosilactobacillus reuteri MG5149, and Weissella cibaria MG5285) in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice.DESIGN: Obesity was induced in mice over 8 weeks, with a 60% HFD. The four human-derived LAB strains (2 × 108 CFU/mouse) were orally administered to male C57BL/6J mice once daily for 8 weeks. Body weight, liver and adipose tissue (AT) weights, glucose tolerance, and serum biochemistry profiles were determined. After collecting the tissues, histopathological and Western blot analyses were conducted.RESULTS: Administration of these LAB strains resulted in decreased body weight, liver and AT weights, and glucose tolerance. Serum biochemistry profiles, including triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and leptin, pro-inflammatory cytokines, improved. Hepatic steatosis and TG levels in liver tissue were significantly reduced. In addition, the size of adipocytes in epididymal tissue was significantly reduced. In epididymal tissues, Limosilactobacillus reuteri MG5149 and Weissella cibaria MG5285 groups showed a significantly reduced expression of lipogenic proteins, including peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α, fatty acid synthase (FAS), and adipocyte-protein 2. In addition, sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1-c and its downstream protein FAS in the liver tissue were significantly decreased. These strains attenuated fat accumulation in the liver and AT by upregulating the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase in HFD-fed mice.CONCLUSION: We suggest that L. reuteri MG5149 and W. cibaria MG5285 could be used as potential probiotic candidates to prevent obesity.

Abstract:Obesity and the related liver diseases are prevalent around the world. Although probiotics have been shown to prevent obesity through multiple ways, only few researches investigated the lipid-lowering effects of probiotic Bacillus. Moreover, the limited results consistently suggested that Bacillus regulated genes related to lipogenesis and oxidation, but no further exploration was made. Our previous study revealed that Bacillus amyloliquefaciens SC06 has a potent antioxidant capacity in vitro. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of SC06 on obesity and the associated liver injury of high-fat diet (HFD)-fed-mice and its underlying mechanism. By feeding normal chow (NC), NC+SC06, HFD, and HFD+SC06 to mice, we found that SC06 improved body weight gain, hepatic steatosis, and glucose metabolism of HFD-mice. Furthermore, SC06 also increased the antioxidant capacity of mice through Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. High-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA gene showed that HFD changed the gut microbiota dramatically, while HFD+SC06 decreased the ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes and increased TM7 abundance. More differences were also found in lower taxa. Altogether, SC06 is a potential probiotic that decreases HFD-related lipid accumulation and liver injury via regulating the antioxidant capacity and host gut microbiota.

Abstract:We describe a fast and very efficient method of purification which yields highly purified integration host factor-like proteins in one chromatographic step. IHF-like proteins from Acinetobacter junii or Proteus vulgaris are each an alpha beta heterodimer (subunits of 10 and 11 kDa) similar to the IHF of Escherichia coli when analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The purified IHF are able to bind to the same ihf sites as IHF of E. coli. The results presented confirm that IHF is conserved during evolution in gram-negative bacteria.
Bifidobacterium adolescentis Isolated from Different Hosts Modifies the Intestinal Microbiota and Displays Differential Metabolic and Immunomodulatory Properties in Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet

Abstract:The incidence of obesity, which is closely associated with the gut microbiota and chronic inflammation, has rapidly increased in the past 40 years. Therefore, the probiotic-based modification of the intestinal microbiota composition has been developed as a strategy for the treatment of obesity. In this study, we selected four Bifidobacterium adolescentis strains isolated from the feces of newborn and elderly humans to investigate whether supplementation with B. adolescentis of various origins could alleviate obesity in mice. Male C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD, 60% energy as fat) received one of the following 14-week interventions: (i) B. adolescentis N4_N3, (ii) B. adolescentis Z25, (iii) B. adolescentis 17_3, (iv) B. adolescentis 2016_7_2, and (v) phosphate-buffered saline. The metabolic parameters, thermogenesis, and immunity of all treated mice were measured. Cecal and colonic microbial profiles were determined by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Intestinal concentrations of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The B. adolescentis strains isolated from the feces of elderly humans (B. adolescentis Z25, 17_3, and 2016_7_2) decreased the body weight or weight gain of mice, whilst the strain isolated from the newborn (B. adolescentis N4_N3) increased the body weight of mice. The B. adolescentis strains isolated from the elderly also increased serum leptin concentrations and induced the expression of thermogenesis- and lipid metabolism-related genes in brown adipose tissue. All the B. adolescentis strains alleviated inflammations in the spleen and brain and modified the cecal and colonic microbiota. Particularly, all strains reversed the HFD-induced depletion of Bifidobacterium and reduced the development of beta-lactam resistance. In addition, the B. adolescentis strains isolated from the elderly increased the relative abundances of potentially beneficial genera, such as Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, and Faecalibaculum. We speculate that such increased abundance of commensal bacteria may have mediated the alleviation of obesity, as B. adolescentis supplementation decreased the intestinal production of SCFAs, thereby reducing energy delivery to the host mice. Our results revealed that certain strains of B. adolescentis can alleviate obesity and modify the gut microbiota of mice. The tested strains of B. adolescentis showed different effects on lipid metabolism and immunity regulation, with these effects related to whether they had been isolated from the feces of newborn or elderly humans. This indicates that B. adolescentis from different sources may have disparate effects on host health possibly due to the transmission of origin-specific functions to the host.

Enterococcus faecium R0026 Combined with Bacillus subtilis R0179 Prevent Obesity-Associated Hyperlipidemia and Modulate Gut Microbiota in C57BL/6 Mice

Abstract:Bacillus subtilis and Enterococcus faecium are commonly used probiotics. This study aimed to identify the effect of live combined Bacillus subtilis R0179 and Enterococcus faecium R0026 (LCBE) on obesityassociated hyperlipidemia and gut microbiota in C57BL/6 mice. Forty male C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups: normal group (N group), model group (M group), low-dose group (L group), and high-dose group (H group). Mice were gavaged with LCBE at 0.023 g/mice/day (L group) or 0.23 g/mice/day (H group) and fed with a high-fat diet for 8 weeks. In vitro E. faecium R0026 showed an ability to lower the low-concentration of cholesterol by 46%, and the ability to lower the highconcentration of cholesterol by 58%. LCBE significantly reduced the body weight gain, Lee index, brown fat index and body mass index of mice on a high-fat diet. Moreover, LCBE markedly improved serum lipids (including serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein and highdensity lipoprotein) while also significantly reducing liver total cholesterol. Serum lipopolysaccharide and total bile acid in L and H groups decreased significantly compared with M group. PCR-DGGE analysis showed that the composition of gut microbiota in the treatment groups was improved. Akkermansia muciniphila was found in H group. The PCA result indicated a similar gut microbiota structure between LCBE treatment groups and normal group while the number of bands and Shannon diversity index increased significantly in the LCBE treatment groups. Finally, qPCR showed Bifidobacterium spp. increased significantly in H group compared with M group, LCBE alleviated liver steatosis and improved brown adipose tissue index.

Abstract:Background: Dietary strategies, including the use of probiotics as preventive agents that modulate the gut microbiota and regulate the function of adipose tissue, are suitable tools for the prevention or amelioration of obesity and its comorbidities. We aimed to evaluate the effect of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with different adipo- and immuno-modulatory capacities on metabolic and immunological parameters and intestinal composition microbiota in high-fat-diet-induced in mice fed a high-fat diet Methods: Balb/c weaning male mice were fed a standard (SD) or high-fat diet (HFD) with or without supplementation with Limosilactobacillus fermentum CRL1446 (CRL1446) , Lactococcus lactis CRL1434 (CRL1434), or Lacticaseibacillus casei CRL431 (CRL431) for 45 days. Biochemical and immunological parameters, white-adipose tissue histology, gut microbiota composition, and ex vivo cellular functionality (adipocytes and macrophages) were evaluated in SD and HFD mice. Results: CRL1446 and CRL1434 administration, unlike CRL431, induced significant changes in the body and adipose tissue weights and the size of adipocytes. Also, these strains caused a decrease in plasmatic glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, leptin, TNF-α, IL-6 levels, and an increase of IL-10. The CRL1446 and CRL1434 obese adipocyte in ex vivo functionality assays showed, after LPS stimulus, a reduction in leptin secretion compared to obese control, while with CRL431, no change was observed. In macrophages from obese mice fed with CRL1446 and CRL1434, after LPS stimulus, lower levels of MCP-1, TNF-α, IL-6 compared to obese control were observed. In contrast, CRL431 did not induce modification of cytokine values. Regarding gut microbiota, all strain administration caused a decrease in Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes index and diversity. As well as, related to genus results, all strains increased, mainly the genera Alistipes, Dorea, Barnesiella , and Clostridium XIVa. CRL1446 induced a higher increase in the Lactobacillus genus during the study period. Conclusions: The tested probiotic strains differentially modulated the intestinal microbiota and metabolic/immunological parameters in high-fat-diet-induced obese mice. These results suggest that CRL1446 and CRL1434 strains could be used as adjuvant probiotics strains for nutritional treatment to obesity and overweight. At the same time, the CRL431 strain could be more beneficial in pathologies that require regulation of the immune system.

Abstract:The major characteristics of obesity are abnormal lipid metabolism, chronic inflammation, and imbalanced gut microbiota. It has been reported that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) possess potential for alleviating obesity, considering which the strain-specific functions and diverse mechanisms and the roles and mechanisms of various LAB are worthy of investigation. This study aimed to validate and investigate the alleviating effects and underlying mechanisms of three LAB strains, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum NCUH001046 (LP), Limosilactobacillus reuteri NCUH064003, and Limosilactobacillus fermentum NCUH003068 (LF), in high-fat-diet-induced obese mice. The findings demonstrated that the three strains, particularly LP, suppressed body weight gain and fat deposition; ameliorated lipid disorders, liver and adipocyte morphology, and chronic low-grade inflammation; and reduced lipid synthesis via activating the adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway. In addition, LP and LF decreased the enrichment of bacteria positively correlated with obesity, like Mucispirillum, Olsenella, and Streptococcus, but facilitated the growth of beneficial bacteria negatively correlated with obesity, like Roseburia, Coprococcus, and Bacteroides, along with increasing the short-chain fatty acid levels. It is deduced that the underlying alleviating mechanism of LP was to modulate the hepatic AMPK signaling pathway and gut microbiota by the microbiome-fat-liver axis to alleviate obesity development. In conclusion, as a diet supplement, LP has promising potential in obesity prevention and treatment.
