Abstract:Background: Few studies have examined whether gestational exposure to organophosphate esters (OPEs), widely used chemicals with potential endocrine-disrupting potency and developmental toxicity, is associated with impaired infant growth. Methods: We analyzed data from 329 mother-infant pairs in the Health Outcomes and Measures of the Environment (HOME) Study (2003-2006, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA). We quantified concentrations of four OPE metabolites in maternal urine collected at 16 and 26 weeks of gestation, and at delivery. We calculated z-scores using 2006 World Health Organization (WHO) child growth standards for the 4-week anthropometric measures (weight, length, and head circumference), the ponderal index, and weekly growth rates. We used multiple informant models to examine window-specific associations between individual OPE metabolites and anthropometric outcomes. We further modeled OPEs as a mixture for window-specific associations with 4-week anthropometric outcomes using mean field variational Bayesian inference procedure for lagged kernel machine regression (MFVB-LKMR). We stratified the models by infant sex. Results: Diphenyl phosphate (DPHP) in mothers at 16 weeks, and bis(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (BCEP) and bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCIPP) at delivery were positively associated with z-scores of weight, length, and head circumference in all infants at 4 weeks of age. After stratifying by infant sex, positive associations were only observed in males for DPHP at 16 weeks and BCEP at delivery and in females for BDCIPP at delivery. Negative associations not present in all infants were observed in males for di-n-butyl phosphate (DNBP) at 26 weeks of gestation with weight z-score and DPHP at delivery with head circumference z-score. Results were generally similar using MFVB-LKMR models with more conservative 95 % credible intervals. We did not identify consistent associations of gestational OPE metabolite concentrations with the ponderal index and weekly growth rates. Conclusion: In this cohort, exposure to OPEs during gestation was associated with altered infant anthropometry at 4 weeks after birth.

Abstract:Injections of anti-lymphocyte serum markedly reduced skin histamine in mice ten weeks after treatment. This decrease is compared with the similar decrease found after treatment with glucocorticoids. Although the effect may simply reflect a rather general action on body processes, it is suggested that these immunosuppressive agents may in part act by their effects on histamine.

Abstract:Maternal exposure to organophosphate esters (OPEs) has been linked to an increased risk of adverse birth outcomes. However, the impact of OPEs on childhood growth remains uncertain. This study assessed the associations between prenatal concentrations of OPE metabolites and the growth trajectory in early childhood. 212 singleton pregnant women were included in this study, and they were recruited between August 2014 and August 2016 in Wuhan, China. We measured the urinary concentrations of OPE metabolites during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters. Standard deviation scores for weight and length were calculated for children at birth, 1, 6, 12, and 24 months. Trajectories of weight-for-age z-score (WAZ) and weight-for-length z-score (WLZ) were classified into four groups using group-based trajectory modeling. Trajectories of length-for-age z-score (LAZ) were classified into three groups with the same model. Then, we calculated odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence interval (95%CI) using multinomial logistic regression to estimate increases in odds of different growth trajectories per doubling in OPE concentrations compared with moderate-stable trajectory. For average concentrations of OPE metabolites and growth trajectory, our results indicated that higher bis(2-butoxyethyl) phosphate, total aromatic OPE metabolites, and total OPE metabolites during pregnancy were associated with a higher likelihood of children falling into the low-stable and low-rising WAZ trajectory. Furthermore, compared to the moderate-stable LAZ trajectory, increased concentrations of 1-hydroxy-2-propyl bis(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate were linked to an elevated risk of a low-stable LAZ trajectory. Additionally, the 1st and 2nd trimesters may represent critical windows of heightened vulnerability to the effects of OPE metabolites on childhood growth. In conclusion, our study proves that prenatal exposure to OPE metabolites is inversely related to childhood growth. It is essential to conduct further research involving larger populations and to consider other compounds with known developmental toxicity to obtain more reliable and comprehensive results.

Abstract:The toxicity of organophosphate esters (OPEs) on embryonic development is well noted in animal experiments, but epidemiological studies are still lacking. This study evaluated the prenatal exposure of OPEs and its trimester-specific and gender-specific effects on fetal growth. The correlations between OPE exposure and fetal growth were investigated by linear mixed-effect models and multivariable linear regression analyses. Prenatal exposure to tributyl phosphate (TBP) was negatively associated with a z-score of fetal abdominal circumference (AC), biparietal diameter (BPD), femur length (FL), and head circumference (HC). In the second trimester, the serum concentration of TBP was inversely related to the z-score of AC, BPD, and HC. In the third trimester, serum concentration of TBP was inversely related to AC, BPD, and FL z-scores. Prenatal exposure to tri-m-cresyl phosphate (TMCP) was inversely related to the z-score of AC, BPD, and HC. In the second trimester, TMCP was negatively correlated with AC, BPD, FL, and HC z-scores. After stratification by gender, male fetuses were more sensitive to OPE exposure. The above results remained robust after excluding pregnant women who gave preterm birth or those with low or high pre-pregnancy BMI. Our findings suggested that health effects of typical OPEs, particularly TBP and TMCP, should be taken into consideration in future works.

A study of motility in the transplanted small bowel may help increase the understanding of clinical problems, such as diarrhea, which are frequently seen after SBT. Abstract:Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are commonly used as plasticizers and flame retardants in consumer products, and exposure is relatively ubiquitous in most populations studied. This may be of concern as some OPEs may be neurotoxic, endocrine-disrupting, and interfere with behavioral development; however, observational evidence is limited. We used data from the Pregnancy, Infection, and Nutrition Study, a prospective birth cohort study, to investigate associations between maternal OPE metabolite concentrations during pregnancy and behavioral development in offspring. Women provided a urine sample during pregnancy that was analyzed for concentrations of OPE metabolites, including diphenyl phosphate (DPHP), bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl phosphate) (BDCIPP), isopropyl-phenyl phenyl phosphate (ip-PPP), and 1-hydroxyl-2-propyl bis(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BCIPHIPP). Offspring's behavioral development was assessed by the Behavioral Assessment System for Children (2nd Edition) (BASC-2) at approximately 36 months. Linear regression was used to estimate associations between tertiles in specific gravity-corrected OPE metabolite concentrations and children's scores on the BASC-2, adjusted for maternal age, maternal BMI, maternal race, maternal education, familial income, maternal depression, quality of the home environment, and sex. Higher BDCIPP concentrations were associated with higher scores on the Behavioral Symptoms Index (1st vs. 3rd tertile: β = 3.03; 95% CI = 0.40, 5.67) and Externalizing Problems (1st vs. 3rd tertile: β = 2.49; 95% CI: -0.12, 5.10) composites. Among BASC-2 scales, BDCIPP was most strongly associated with Withdrawal, Attention Problems, Depression, Hyperactivity, and Aggression. DPHP concentrations were also associated with higher scores on the Externalizing Problems and Behavioral Symptoms Index composites, but not as strongly as BDCIPP. Conversely, higher concentrations of ip-PPP were associated with fewer adverse behavioral symptoms, including an inverse association with the Internalizing Problems composite (1st vs. 3rd tertile: β = -3.74; 95% CI = -6.75, -0.74) and constituent scales. BCIPHIPP was not strongly associated with any measured behavioral outcomes. Our results suggest that greater maternal exposure to tris(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl phosphate) (TDCIPP, parent compound of BDCIPP) and, to a lesser degree, triphenyl phosphate (TPHP, parent compound of DPHP) during pregnancy is associated with adverse behavioral development in children. Our study contributes to the growing body of evidence pertaining to adverse developmental effects of prenatal OPE exposure and highlights the need for further research to characterize risks associated with this ubiquitous family of chemicals.
Comparison of Venous Air Embolism Monitoring Methods in Supine Dogs

Abstract:The sensitivities and durations of positive responses of routinely used methods for detecting venous air embolism and physiologic variables reflecting changes accompanying air embolism were compared in ten anesthetized dogs receiving incremental venous injections of 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 ml/kg air. These doses of air produced a spectrum of changes ranging from subtle alterations in Doppler frequency to dramatic, life-threatening cardiovascular depression. Precordial Doppler ultrasound monitoring was the most sensitive detection method, but failed to reflect embolus size. Mean pulmonary arterial pressure and end-tidal carbon dioxide concentration (FETCO2), while slightly less sensitive than the Doppler device, reliably detected 0.25-0.5 ml/kg of injected air and quantitatively reflected the size of the embolus. Changes in Doppler, and FETCO2 were predictably positive at air volumes one fourth of those producing decreases in arterial blood pressure and cardiac output. Other frequently monitored signs of air embolism, such as a millwheel murmur and cardiac arrhythmias, were late manifestations and were seen only with injection of 1.5–2.0 ml/kg air. and FETCO2 remained altered the longest after air injections (20–30 min at 2.0 ml/kg), while changes in Doppler-transmittcd signals at the same dose lasted 15 min. Positive responses with other methods of air embolus detection, although dose-related, were significantly shorter-lasting than and FETCO2 alterations. Cardiac murmurs and arrhythmias were transient after air injection, lasting less than a minute, even with emboli of 2.0 ml/kg. The data indicate that the combination of application of a Doppler device with cither end-tidal carbon dioxide measurement or a flowdirected pulmonary-artery catheter with display provides the desired combination of sustained, sensitive and reliable detection of air embolism and quantitative evaluation of embolus size.

Abstract:Background: Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are a class of alternative replacements for polybrominated diphenyl ethers. In vitro and in vivo studies suggested that OPEs may disrupt the homeostasis of sex steroid hormones. However, human evidence in children and adolescents is limited. Objectives: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the associations between OPE biomarkers and sex steroid hormones among children (6-11 years) and adolescents (12-19 years) in the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2013-2014. Methods: Participants aged 6-19 years who had available data on urinary OPE metabolites, serum sex hormones [total testosterone (TT), estradiol (E2)] and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) were included (n = 544). Free androgen index (FAI) calculated as TT divided by SHBG and a ratio of TT to E2 (TT/E2) were generated. Five urinary OPE metabolites were examined. A constructed puberty status was defined as either high steroid hormone levels (TT ≥ 50 ng/dL in males and E2 ≥ 20 pg/ml in females) or onset of menarche. Multiple linear regression and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression analyses stratified by sex-age and sex-puberty-status groups were conducted to examine the associations of OPE metabolites and its mixture with sex hormone levels. Results: After adjusting for covariates, dibutyl phosphate (DBUP) and dibutyl phosphate (DPHP) were significantly inversely associated with TT (or FAI) and E2; DBUP was negatively associated with SHBG; and DPHP was positively associated with SHBG and TT/E2 in female adolescents. In male adolescents, we observed monotonic negative associations of bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCPP), DBUP or DPHP with TT (or FAI) and E2, and positive associations of BDCPP and DPHP with SHBG. Among adolescents, the OPEs index was negatively associated with TT [WQS beta = -0.29 (95% confidence interval: -0.51, -0.07) in males and -0.15 (-0.28, -0.01) in females ], FAI [-0.46 (-0.71, -0.2) in males and -0.23 (-0.41, -0.05) in females] and E2 [-0.25 (-0.41, -0.1) in males and -0.33 (-0.59, -0.08) in females], with stronger associations with TT and FAI in males and a slightly stronger association with E2 in females. In addition, the OPEs index presented a comparable positive association with SHBG in both sexes of adolescents. In contrast, significant associations of individual OPE metabolites or OPEs index with sex hormones were sparse in children. Results by sex-puberty status in single pollutant and WQS regression analyses presented a similar pattern, where most of the significant associations were limited to the pubertal individuals. Of note, stronger inverse associations of the OPEs index with TT and FAI remained in pubertal boys. But the association between the OPEs index and E2 was non-significant in pubertal girls, and only in pubertal boys did the OPEs index show a significant and stronger inverse association with E2. Conclusions: Exposure to OPEs, either individually or as a mixture, was associated with decreased levels of certain sex steroid hormones (TT, FAI, and E2) and increased levels of SHBG in adolescents or pubertal individuals, with the associations presenting somewhat sex-dependent pattern. However, there is little evidence of the significant associations in children or prepubescent ones. Given the cross-sectional nature of the analysis, our findings need further confirmation.
Urinary organophosphate metabolite concentrations and birth sizes among women conceiving through in vitro fertilization in Shanghai, China

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined the adverse birth sizes of preconception exposure to organophosphate pesticides (OPs) in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).OBJECTIVES: We investigated the relationship of preconception OP exposure with birth sizes among Chinese women undergoing IVF.METHODS: This study included 302 couples seeking infertility treatment in the China National Birth Cohort Study, from Shanghai, China, who gave birth to singleton infants between 2018 and 2021. Clinical data were collected from medical records. We measured the concentrations of six nonspecific dialkyl phosphates (DAP) metabolites of OPs [diethylthiophosphate (DETP), diethylphosphate (DEP), diethyldithiophosphate (DEDTP), dimethyldithiophosphate (DMTP), dimethylphosphate (DMP), and dimethyldithiophosphate (DMDTP)] in maternal urine. DMDTP and DEDTP were precluded from further analyses due to the low detection rates. Generalized linear models (GLMs) and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression analyses were performed to examine the individual and joint effects of OP exposures on gestational age, birth weight, body length, and ponderal index. Odder ratio (OR) of preterm birth were estimated using logistic regression models.RESULTS: Women in the highest as compared with lowest quartile of DEP had shorter gestational age (β = - 0.68; 95% CI = -1.24, -0.11). The association was modified by sex, with boys showing larger decreases in gestational age (β = - 0.86; 95% CI = -1.60, -0.13). No associations were found between other DAP metabolites and birth sizes. Results from linear models with individual DAP metabolites were corroborated by the WQS regression where DEP had the largest contribution to the overall mixture effect on gestational age (weight = 0.70). Moreover, DEP concentration was associated with an elevated risk of preterm birth (OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.11, 2.25).CONCLUSION: Preconception DEP concentration was associated with shortened gestational age and increased risk of preterm birth, and the association was more pronounced among boys than girls.

Abstract:In expectation of the elevated formation of an antineoplastic metabolite from 5-fluorouracil (5FU), we examined the additive effect of 2-deoxy-alpha-D-ribose 1-phosphate (dRib1P) and/or 2'-deoxyuridine (dUrd) upon the formation of 5-fluoro-2'-deoxyuridine (5FdUrd) or proximately more antineoplastic 5-fluoro-2'-deoxyuridine 5'-monophosphate (5FdUMP) from 5FU using a crude extract and the whole cells of Ehrlich tumor cells. The amounts of 5FdUrd formed from 5FU by a crude extract were increased in the presence of dRib1P and dUrd, although it was stimulated much more by dRib1P than by dUrd. In the intact cells, the conversion of 5FU to 5FdUMP was also increased by dRib1P, while the presence both of dRib1P and dUrd enhanced the formation of 5FdUrd rather than that of 5FdUMP. These results suggest that the coadministration of 5FU with dRib1P may increase the chemotherapeutic effect of 5FU.

Abstract:Abstract Background Organophosphate esters (OPEs)—used as flame retardants and plasticizers—are associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes such as reduced fecundity and live births and increased preterm delivery. OPEs may interfere with growth and metabolism via endocrine-disruption, but few studies have investigated endocrine-related outcomes. The objective of this pilot study ( n = 56 mother-infant pairs) was to evaluate associations of OPEs with gestational weight gain (GWG), gestational age at delivery, infant anthropometry, and infant feeding behaviors. Methods We quantified OPE metabolites (bis-2-chloroethyl phosphate [BCEP], bis (1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate [BDCPP], diphenyl phosphate [DPHP]) in pooled maternal spot urine collected throughout pregnancy (~ 12, 28, and 35 weeks’ gestation). We obtained maternal sociodemographic characteristics from questionnaires administered at enrollment and perinatal characteristics from medical record abstraction. Trained research assistants measured infant weight, length, head and abdominal circumferences, and skinfold thicknesses at birth and 6 weeks postpartum. Mothers reported infant feeding behavior via the Baby Eating Behavior Questionnaire (BEBQ). Using multiple linear regression, we assessed associations of log 2 -transformed maternal urinary OPE metabolites with GWG, gestational age at delivery, infant anthropometry at birth, weekly growth rate, and BEBQ scores at 6 weeks postpartum. We used linear mixed effects (LME) models to analyze overall infant anthropometry during the first 6 weeks of life. Additionally, we considered effect modification by infant sex. Results We observed weak positive associations between all OPE metabolites and GWG. In LME models, BDCPP was associated with increased infant length (β = 0.44 cm, 95%CI = 0.01, 0.87) and weight in males (β = 0.14 kg, 95%CI = 0.03, 0.24). BDCPP was also associated with increased food responsiveness (β = 0.23, 95%CI = 0.06, 0.40). DPHP was inversely associated with infant abdominal circumference (β = − 0.50 cm, 95%CI = − 0.86, − 0.14) and female weight (β = − 0.19 kg, 95%CI = − 0.36, − 0.02), but positively associated with weekly growth in iliac skinfold thickness (β = 0.10 mm/wk., 95%CI = 0.02, 0.19). Further, DPHP was weakly associated with increased feeding speed. BCEP was associated with greater infant thigh skinfold thickness (β = 0.34 mm, 95%CI = 0.16, 0.52) and subscapular skinfold thickness in males (β = 0.14 mm, 95%CI = 0.002, 0.28). Conclusions Collectively, these findings suggest that select OPEs may affect infant anthropometry and feeding behavior, with the most compelling evidence for BDCPP and DPHP.

Abstract:Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are a group of chemicals used as flame retardants and plasticizers that replaced polybrominated diphenyl ethers in consumer products such as furniture and electronics. To characterize exposure to OPEs during fetal development, we measured urinary OPE metabolite concentrations in women twice during pregnancy (16 and 26 weeks' gestation) and at delivery (n = 357). We also previously quantified house dust OPE parent compound concentrations at 20 weeks' gestation (n = 317). Diphenyl phosphate (DPHP) had the highest geometric mean urinary concentrations (1.5-2.3 μg/g creatinine), followed by bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCIPP; 0.75-0.99 μg/g creatinine), and bis(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (BCEP; 0.72-0.97 μg/g creatinine), while dibutyl phosphate (DNBP) had the lowest concentrations (0.25-0.28 μg/g creatinine). Urinary OPE metabolites were moderately correlated with each other at 26 weeks (rs: 0.23-0.38, p < 0.001) while the correlations at 16 weeks and delivery were slightly weaker. Intra-class correlations for urinary metabolites measured at three time points were poor (0.16-0.34), indicating high variability within individuals. Dust concentrations of OPE parent compounds were associated with BCEP, BDCIPP, and DPHP concentrations in urine at some but not all time points. In linear mixed models of urinary OPE metabolite concentrations, household size was inversely associated with BCEP concentrations, and being non-white was associated with lower BDCIPP and DPHP concentrations. Urine samples collected in the summer had the highest OPE metabolite concentrations. This study highlights the need to collect multiple urine samples during pregnancy to define exposure patterns and investigate potential periods of susceptibility.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel four order adaptive (FOA) PDE method for denoising of magnetic resonance (MR) images. FOA method can adjust the diffusion speed according to the local structure of the image and preserve more details in MRI data. Denoising results on T-1 and T-2 weight MR images are given. We have also compared our method with related PDE models.

Abstract:Background Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) are widely used as flame retardants and plasticizers . Laboratory evidence has suggested that maternal OPFR exposure may adversely affect fetal growth, but the epidemiological data are limited. Objectives To investigate the association of maternal OPFR exposure with neonatal anthropometric measures. Methods This study included 354 mother-newborn pairs from the Laizhou Wan Birth Cohort (LWBC), China. Ten OPFR metabolites were measured in maternal urine samples collected before delivery. Neonatal anthropometric data was collected from medical records and standardized into z-scores using the WHO standards (2007), including the weight-for-age (WAZ), length-for-age (LAZ), body mass index-for-age (BMIZ), weight-for-length (WLZ), and head circumference-for-age z-score (HCZ). Multiple linear regression and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression were used to estimate the associations of individual OPFR metabolites and their mixtures with neonatal anthropometrics, respectively. Stratified analysis by sex was performed. Results The detection rates of BCEP, DPHP, BCIPP, BDCIPP, BBOEP, DnBP and DiBP were above 60%, with median concentrations ranging from 0.14 to 3.60 μg/g creatinine. Most OPFR metabolites (i.e., BCIPP, BDCIPP, DiBP, DnBP, or BBOEP) were associated with decreased offspring WAZ and HCZ. When using WQS analysis, the OPFR metabolite mixture was inversely associated with the WAZ, BMIZ and HCZ, whereas DnBP had the highest weights. After stratified by gender, the negative associations were more pronounced among males. Conclusions Maternal OPFR exposure was negatively associated with offspring WAZ, BMIZ, and HCZ, and males seemed to be more vulnerable to the developmental toxicity of certain OPFRs.

Abstract:Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are synthetic chemicals used in various commercial products. Accumulating evidence has shown that they may act as metabolic disruptors. However, no study has investigated the long-term effects of gestational OPEs exposure on childhood adiposity. Breast milk represents the optimal nutritional form of feeding for infants and may protect against the adverse effects of gestational OPEs exposure on offspring development. Using data from the Shanghai-Minhang birth cohort study, we investigated the associations of gestational OPEs exposure with adiposity measures in children up to 6 years of age, and whether breastfeeding could modify these associations. A total of 733 mother-child pairs with available data on OPE concentrations and child anthropometry were included. Eight OPE metabolites were assessed in maternal urine samples collected at 12-16 weeks of pregnancy. Information on children's weight, height, arm circumference, and waist circumference was collected at birth and 0.5, 1, 4, and 6 years of age. Weight-for-age and body mass index-for-age z scores were calculated. The duration of children's breastfeeding was categorized as ≤4 months or >4 months. The generalized estimate equation and Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression models were used to examine the associations of OPEs exposure with children's adiposity measures. Selected OPEs exposure was associated with higher children's adiposity measures. Particularly, we found stronger associations of bis(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BCIPP), bis(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (BCEP), bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCPP), and di-o-cresyl phosphate and di-p-cresyl phosphate (DCP) with higher adiposity measures in children breastfed for ≤4 months, while little evidence of associations was found among those breastfed for >4 months. Our study suggested that gestational OPEs exposure could alter children's adiposity measures, but the potential effects were attenuated if children were breastfed for >4 months.

Abstract:Background: Evidence suggests organophosphate esters (OPEs) are neurotoxic; however, the epidemiological literature remains scarce. We investigated whether prenatal exposures to OPEs were associated with child neurobehavior in the MADRES cohort. Methods: We measured nine OPE metabolites in 204 maternal urine samples (gestational age at collection: 31.4 ± 1.8 weeks). Neurobehavior problems were assessed among 36-month-old children using the Child Behavior Checklist's (CBCL) three composite scales [internalizing, externalizing, and total problems]. We examined associations between tertiles of prenatal OPE metabolites (> 50% detection) and detect/non-detect categories (< 50% detection) and CBCL composite scales using linear regression and generalized additive models. We also examined mixtures for widely detected OPEs (n = 5) using Bayesian kernel machine regression. Results: Maternal participants with detectable versus non-detectable levels of bis(2-methylphenyl) phosphate (BMPP) had children with 42% (95% CI: 4%, 96%) higher externalizing, 45% (-2%, 114%) higher internalizing, and 35% (3%, 78%) higher total problems. Participants in the second versus first tertile of bis(butoxethyl) phosphate (BBOEP) had children with 43% (-1%, 109%) higher externalizing scores. Bis(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BCIPP) and child sex had a statistically significant interaction in internalizing (p = 0.02) and total problems (p = 0.03) models, with 120% (23%, 295%) and 57% (6%, 134%) higher scores in the third versus first BCIPP tertile among males. Among females, detectable vs non-detectable levels of prenatal BMPP were associated with 69% higher externalizing scores (5%, 170%) while the third versus first tertile of prenatal BBOEP was associated with 45% lower total problems (-68%, -6%). Although the metabolite mixture and each CBCL outcome had null associations, we observed marginal associations between di-n-butyl phosphate and di-isobutyl phosphate (DNBP + DIBP) and higher internalizing scores (0.15; 95% CrI: -0.02, 0.32), holding other metabolites at their median. Conclusions: Our results generally suggest adverse and sex-specific effects of prenatal exposure to previously understudied OPEs on neurobehavioral outcomes in 36-month children, providing evidence of potential OPE neurotoxicity.
