Abstract:Transition-metal catalysts that can efficiently activate peroxide bonds have been extensively pursued for various applications including environmental remediation, chemical synthesis, and sensing. Here, we present pyridine-coordinated Co single atoms embedded in a polyaromatic macrostructure as a highly efficient peroxide-activation catalyst. The efficient catalytic production of reactive radicals through peroxymonosulfate activation was demonstrated by the rapid removal of model aqueous pollutants of environmental and public health concerns such as bisphenol A, without pH limitation and Co2+ leaching. The turnover frequency of the newly synthesized Co single-atom catalyst bound to tetrapyridomacrocyclic ligands was found to be 2 to 4 orders of magnitude greater than that of benchmark homogeneous (Co2+) and nanoparticulate (Co3O4) catalysts. Experimental results and density functional theory simulation suggest that the abundant π-conjugation in the polyaromatic support and strong metal-support electronic interaction allow the catalysts to effectively adsorb and activate the peroxide precursor. We further loaded the catalysts onto a widely used poly(vinylidene fluoride) microfiltration membrane and demonstrated that the model pollutants were oxidatively removed as they simply passed through the filter, suggesting the promise of utilizing this novel catalyst for realistic applications.
Preparation, Characterization and Properties of Cobalt Phthalocyanine Covalent Bonded to MCM-41

Abstract:Cobalt phthalocyanine complex was covalently bonded to the silica surface of mesoporous MCM-41 molecular sieve via two different methods: (1) grafting an organic side chain with a primary amine on the silica surface of mesoporous MCM-41; (2) grafting an organic side chain with a secondary amine on the silica surface of mesoporous MCM-41. Cobalt phthalocynine containing sulfonyl chloride reacted with amine to form sulfonamide. The resulting host/guest compounds were characterized by various physical methods and catalytic reaction. The results suggest that Cobalt phthalocyanine complex is indeed located inside the mesopores walls of MCM-41 as a monomer form, after immobilization the Cobalt phthalocyanine exhibites high catalytic activity as well as good stability in reaction conditions, and is subjected to several reuses without obvious loss of activity.
Cobalt Oxide on a Nanoporous TUD-1 Catalyst for Methylene Blue Dye Interaction DFT Studies and Degradation

Abstract:Fenton and Fenton-like advanced oxidation processes (AOP) have been substantially utilized in wastewater treatment for the removal of organic contaminants. The present investigation explores the catalytic activity of cobalt dispersed over nanoporous silicate material (CoO/TUD-1), TUD-1, for the Fenton-type degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye present in wastewater, with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidant. The catalyst, which was prepared using the hydrothermal method, was characterized using analytical and spectroscopic techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, UV-visible diffuse reflectance (DR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The results indicated that the CoO/TUD-1 possessed three-dimensional structures with a high surface area and a pore diameter capable of the uniform dispersion of cobalt species. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations were performed to study the most stable tetra coordinate adsorption configuration of a single Co atom on amorphous SiO2. To understand the geometric and electronic structure of this configuration, electron density differences, Bader charge, and partial density of states were examined. The results obtained from the DFT calculations confirmed the occurrence of electron transfer from the Co atom to the amorphous SiO2. The calculated adsorption energy was found to be −1.58 eV, which indicated that the MB dye was strongly adsorbed by parallel configuration mode and degraded more easily. Further, the addition of a 0.1g/L dose of the prepared CoO /TUD degraded the MB dye effectively (~95%) within 240 min of contact. Thus, CoO/TUD-1 is a potential material for the removal of organic contaminants and the degradation of dyes in wastewater treatment.

Abstract:A redox switchable photocatalyst consisting of mixed valent copper (Cu I/II ) sulfide (Cu x S) and cobalt (Co II/III ) oxide (Co y O z ) designated as Cu x S-Co y O z (x=1,2, y=1,3 and z=1,4) was synthesized to execute the Z-scheme photocatalysis process for photoreduction of chromium(VI), and photodegradation of Methyl Violet (MV) dye. The synthesized photocatalyst with a band gap of 3.3 eV was found to be highly effective to reduce 99.62% Cr(VI) and 99.32% of MV dye under UV-light irradiation. The possibility of switching the oxidation state in Cu and Co centre favored the band edge electron transfer on light irradiation and supported the Z-scheme electron transport chain. The photocatalytic reduction and degradation process was dependent on various reaction conditions like catalyst amount, pH of the reaction mixture, irradiation time. The reduction of Cr(VI) occurred with high efficacy at pH=2 while the MV dye degradation proceeded at high pH=10. The catalyst could reduce maximum concentration of Cr(VI) upto 250 ppm and MV dye upto 10 −3 M. The mechanism of the photocatalytic processes were well studied by different spectroscopic and electrochemical analysis. The photocatalytic activity of synthesized Cu x S-Co y O z catalyst was compared with five other transition metal sulfides M-S (MnS, FeS, Co a S b , NiS and ZnS, where a=3, 4; b=3, 4) combined with cobalt oxide and it was found that Cu x S-Co y O z exhibited the highest activity in both the photocatalytic process.

Abstract:Robust hybrid g-C3N4/ZnO-W/Cox heterojunction composites were synthesized using graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and ZnO-W nanoparticles (NPs) and different concentrations of Co dopant. The hybrid heterojunction composites were prepared by simple and low-cost coprecipitation methods. The fabricated catalyst was explored and investigated using various characterization techniques such as FTIR, XRD, FESEM and EDX. The surface morphology of the as-prepared hybrid nanocomposites with particle sizes in the range of 15–16 nm was validated by SEM analysis. The elemental composition of the synthesized composites was confirmed by EDS analysis. Photocatalysis using a photon as the sole energy source is considered a challenging approach for organic transformations under ambient conditions. The photocatalytic activity of the heterojunctions was tested by photodegrading methylene blue (MB) dye in the presence of sunlight. The reduced band gap of the heterojunction composite of 3.22–2.28 eV revealed that the incorporation of metal ions played an imperative role in modulating the light absorption range for photocatalytic applications. The as-synthesized g-C3N4/ZnO-W/Co0.010 composite suppressed the charge recombination ability during the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye. The ternary heterojunction C3N4/ZnO-W/Co0.010 composite showed an impressive photocatalytic performance with 90% degradation of MB under visible light within 90 min of irradiation, compared to the outcomes achieved with the other compositions. Lastly, the synthesized composites showed good recyclability and mechanical stability over five cycles, confirming them as promising photocatalyst options in the future.

Abstract:Abstract CuO (S1) Single pure component nanoparticles (SPCNPs), Ag/CuO (S2) binary component hybrid nanoparticles (BCHNPS), Co1/Ag/CuO (S3), and Co2/Ag/CuO (S4) ternary component hybrid nanoparticles (TCHNPS) were synthesized via co-precipitation method. Several spectroscopic methods investigated the characterization of the prepared catalysts. Based on Crystal properties, CuO exhibit a monoclinic phase (tenorite); the grain size of the prepared samples was 28.15 nm, 29.42 nm, 27.86 nm, and 26.67 nm for S1, S2, S3, and S4 respectively. The addition of different content from Co as a dopant to silver decorated CuO gives a clear change to a flake shape. The presence of the IR absorption peaks in the region 400–600 cm −1 matched to the distinctive stretching vibrations of Cu–O bonds in the monoclinic phase structure of CuO. Disappearance of the Raman peaks of CuO and appearing of the new characteristic peaks of cobalt oxide confirms the doping process. Using DRS analysis, arrange of the bandgap values were S1 > S2 > S3 > S4. For the synthetic methyl orange and raw industrial dye, the photodegradation parameters were measured. The results show the excellent activity of Co2/Ag/CuO NPS compared with other samples. Electrical studies of the catalysts show a higher value for the dielectric constant in the higher and lower frequency regions for the sample S4. The hopping process of the charge carrier’s improving as a result of the increase of applied field frequency which leads to an increase in the material conductivity.

Abstract:A new photocatalyst called Co3O4‐Bi2O3 was created utilizing a simple affordable co‐precipitation process with cobalt nitrate and bismuth nitrate as metal precursors. The structural and optical characteristics of the produced material were characterized using XRD, FTIR, TEM, SEM‐EDS, XPS, UV‐DRS, PL, BET, and TGA.The band gap energy of virgin Co3O4 and Bi2O3 was found to be 2.4 and 2.7 eV, respectively, whereas that of the heterojunction composite was lowered to 2.1 eV.The modified cobalt oxide composites perform better as photocatalysts than the pure ones due to their narrow band gap energy, increased surface area, excellent absorption in the visible range, and decreased charge carrier recombination.The photocatalytic activity of the composite was assessed by altering factors such as pH, dye concentration, catalyst dosage, temperature, and duration. Within 60 minutes, the heterojunction composite degraded MB and MG to 98 % (at pH=11) and 97 % (at pH=9), respectively.The photodegradation of both dyes follows a pseudo‐first order kinetic model, and the thermodynamic investigation revealed that the process is spontaneous and endothermic.To investigate the function of radicals in degradation mechanisms, a reactive species trapping analysis was performed, and the important participation of the hydroxyl radical was discovered.The modified catalyst demonstrated a modest decrease in degrading efficiency after the fifth cycle, making it suitable for practical application. In the photodegradation method, electrons in the Valence band of cobalt oxide and bismuth oxide were stimulated and hopped to the conduction band when exposed to sun radiation. The electrons from the CB of Bi2O3 transferred to the CB of Co3O4 resulting reduction in the charge carrier recombination. A cost‐effective and simple co‐precipitation approach was used to create an efficient photocatalyst Co3O4‐Bi2O3 with identical stoichiometry (1 : 1 of both Co3O4 and Bi2O3). XRD, FTIR, TEM, SEM‐EDS, XPS, UV‐DRS, PL, BET, and TGA were used to characterize the produced material's structural and optical properties. The presence of a single phase spinel structure with a distinctive plane (311) was verified by the XRD peak of 2 at 36.9° for Co3O4‐Bi2O3. The SEM pictures revealed clustered consolidated spheres, suggesting particle homogeneity and high interconnectedness. The HR‐TEM and SAED pictures revealed an average crystallite size of 28 nm for the Co3O4‐Bi2O3 heterojunction. The UV‐DRS spectral data demonstrated a 2.1 eV reduction in band gap energy for Co3O4‐Bi2O3 (whereas Co3O4 is 2.4 eV and Bi2O3 is 2.7 eV). Under solar light irradiation, pristine Co3O4, Bi2O3, and Co3O4‐Bi2O3 composites were investigated for photocatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) and Malachite green (MG) dyes. By adjusting factors such as pH, starting dye concentration, catalyst dosage, and agitation duration, the optimal efficiency was determined. The acquired results showed Co3O4‐Bi2O3 ′s superior activity over both precursors. The composite obtained maximal degradation of 98 % (at pH=11) and 97 % (at pH=9) for MB and MG, respectively. The enhanced photo degradation activity of Co3O4‐Bi2O3 can be due to larger visible light absorption, increased surface area, and decreased h+/e− recombination. The reactive species trapping study was performed to determine the importance of superoxide and hydroxyl radicals during photo degradation. Dye degradation was governed by a pseudo‐first‐order kinetic model. The reusability and stability of Co3O4‐Bi2O3 were confirmed by utilizing the same material for five consecutive runs with both MB and MG dyes. Mass spectra analysis provided insights into the successful degradation of dyes, elucidating intermediate products. The synthesized Co3O4‐Bi2O3 nanocomposite offers unrivalled advantages in terms of structural and optical properties, superior photocatalytic activity, and remarkable stability, making it a promising candidate for efficient dye degradation applications without the formation of toxic by‐products.

Abstract:A new Cu(II)-based coordination polymer [Cu2(HL)2(bib)2] (1) has been synthesized by reacting two flexible linkers viz. 5-(4ˊ-carboxylphenoxy)isophthalic acid (H3L) and 1,1′-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole) (bib) a N-donor auxiliary ligand with CuSO4 under solvothermal condition. The single crystal X-ray analysis indicates that 1 possess 2D layered network, which further extends into 3D supramolecular framework through hydrogen bonding interactions. The coordination polymer 1 has been used as photocatalyst for the sustainable degradation of model aromatic dyes viz. methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine B (Rh B) and methylene orange (MO). The experiments demonstrate that 1 exhibits recyclable and better photocatalytic activity for photodegradation of MB (62.96%) than Rhodamine B (Rh B) and methylene orange (MO) in time span of 100 min. Furthermore, trapping experiments using scavengers indicate that hydroxyl radicals are the main species responsible for photocatalytic degradation of MB. Apart from this computational investigation has been executed to propose the plausible mechanism of photocatalysis.

Abstract:The photocatalytic activity of sulphonated cobalt phthalocyanine immobilized onto MCM-41 was investigated for decomposition of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) in aqueous solutions. Immobilization of anion sulpho-cobalt phthalocyanine to the walls of MCM-41 was performed by pre-anchorage of 3-(aminopropyl)-triethoxysilane (APTES) onto MCM-41 via post-synthesis method. X-ray diffraction, nitrogen physisorption, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray and FT-IR methods were used to characterize the product. Photocatalytic efficiency of the prepared catalyst for degradation of 2,4-DCP was tested under illumination of UV-A and visible light. The results obtained reveal that the photocatalyst is very active in degradation of 2,4-DCP. The photodegradation process is completed within 3h using a dose of 0.6g/L of the catalyst under UV irradiation. The reactions follow a pseudo-first-order kinetics and the observed rate constant values change with 2,4-DCP concentrations. The reproducibility of the catalyst was tested. The reaction intermediates were identified by gas chromatoghraphy-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique.
Preparation, structure and photocatalytic degradation property of a copper-based complex and its derivative material

Abstract:In order to design a new type of photocatalyst for dye degradation, a novel Cu-based coordination polymer (CP) was prepared by hydrothermal method with a novel bis-pyridine-bis-amide ligand and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, namely [Cu(3-bbpa)(1,3-BDC)(H2O)]n (Cu-CP, where 3-bbpa = N 1,N 4-di(pyridin-3-yl)fumaramide and 1,3-H2BDC = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid). The Cu-CP shown a two-dimensional (2D) layered structure with 10.39 Å × 16.31 Å cavities, containing one-dimensional (1D) meso-helical [Cu(3-bbpa)]n chain and 1D zigzag [Cu(1,3-BDC)]n chain. The influence of bis-pyridine-bis-amide ligands on the structure of Cu-1,3-BDC-based CPs was discussed. Furthermore, by using the pyrolysis process, the Cu-CP was employed as a catalyst precursor to manufacture a carbon matrix composites (Cu/CuO@C) and was thoroughly described. The results show that both carbon matrix composites have photocatalytic degradability of dyes,the photocatalytic degradation rates of Cu-CP for methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB), gentian violet (GV), methyl orange (MO) and Congo red (CR) were 35.64%, 82.09%, 87.94%, 70.26%, and 66.71%, respectively. After the characterization of the Cu/CuO@C materials by XPS and solid ultraviolet, it can be seen that they contain metal and its oxide active sites, and the narrow bandgap promotes the rapid transport of photogenerated carriers and increases the photocatalytic degradation rate of five dyes. Therefore, the photocatalytic degradation rate of MB increased to 61.32%, 98.11% for RhB, 93.22% for GV, 72.12% for MO, and 88.36% for CR. According to the quenching studies and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra characterization, the main species involved in the photocatalytic reaction were the radicals •OH. Cu/CuO@C composites derived from Cu-CP as precursors have been shown to be an efficient photocatalyst material compared to other photocatalysts.

Abstract:We have developed an innovative mesoporous nanocatalyst by carefully attaching a 2-aminothiophenol-Cu complex onto functionalized MCM-41. This straightforward synthesis process has yielded a versatile nanocatalyst known for its outstanding efficiency, recyclability, and enhanced stability. The structural integrity of the nanocatalyst was comprehensively analyzed using an array of techniques, including BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) for surface area measurement, ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) for metal content determination, EDS (Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) for elemental mapping, XRD (X-ray Diffraction) for crystalline structure elucidation, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), EMA (Elemental Mapping Analysis), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis), FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy), and CV (cyclic voltammetry). Subsequently, the catalytic properties of the newly developed MCM-41-CPTEO-2-aminothiophenol-Cu catalyst was evaluated in the synthesis of biphenyls, demonstrating outstanding yields through a Suzuki coupling reaction between phenylboronic acid and aryl halides. Importantly, this reaction was conducted in an environmentally friendly medium. Note the remarkable recyclability of the catalyst, proving its sustainability over six cycles with minimal loss in activity additionally hot filtration test was prepared to examine the stability of this nanocatalyst. This outstanding feature emphasizes the catalyst's potential for long-term, environmentally conscious catalytic applications.

Abstract:The main target of the current research is designing and synthesizing novel Co(II) complexes derived from 2-hydroxy-5,3-(phenylallylidene)aminobenzoic acid ligand and to enhance comprehension as potential photocatalyst, antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidants alternatives by means of using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and molecular docking investigation. Thus, 2-hydroxy-5,3-(phenylallylidene)aminobenzoic acid (L1), was prepared by thermal condensation of cinnamaldehyde with 5-aminosalicylic acid in methanol. A series of cobalt(II) complexes with newly synthesized Schiff base ligand and para substituted phenylphenol (L2) corresponding to complex 1, [Co II (L1) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ], and mixed-ligand complexes, 2 and 3, [Co II (L2) 1/2 (L1)(H 2 O) 4/3 ], have been prepared and analysed by FTIR, 1 H NMR, HRMS, PXRD, electrochemical and fluorescence spectral techniques. DFT calculations were utilized to verify the molecular structure, analysis of Frontier Molecular orbitals (FMOs), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) and reactivity descriptor for complexes 1–3. In vitro experiments were conducted to evaluate the biological properties of the complexes. These findings revealed that the synthesized metal complexes have heightened biological efficacy as related to the unbound ligand. Complex 2 has been observed to show effective antibacterial MIC value against P. aeruginosa (3.81 μg/mL) which is superior to the efficacy of standard drug chloramphenicol used (7.81 μg/mL) while the antifungal activity of complexes was found to be moderate to that of standard nystatin. Complex 2 has also demonstrated strong antioxidant activity (67.7%), which was on par with ascorbic acid used as a reference. Furthermore, in silico antibacterial activities (molecular docking) of the complexes have indicated these to exhibit excellent efficacy with docking score of − 11.1, − 9.8 and − 9.4 KCalmol −1 against target proteins E. coli (PDB ID: 4OPQ), P. aeruginosa, (PDB ID: 6NE0) and S. aureus, (PDB ID: 3Q89), respectively. The photocatalytic behaviour of the Co(II) based complexes has been studied by Buchwald-Hartwig C–N (BHC) and Suzuki Miyura C–C (SMC) cross coupling reactions. Lastly, a correlation between in vitro efficacies with molecular docking data and photocatalytic activity with DFT data was done and analysed.

Abstract:Copper(II) Schiff-base Complexes (Salen-Cu(II)) intercalated zinc-chromium layered double hydroxides (ZnSBCuCr-LDHs) were successfully prepared via coprecipitation. Then, a novel photocatalytic material Zn-Cu-Cr composite oxides (ZnSBCuCr-MO) was prepared after calcination at 500 °C with ZnSBCuCr-LDHs as precursor. The structure and properties of the materials were thoroughly characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), ultraviolet visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic activities of the materials were investigated by photodegradation of a cationic dye Rhodamin B (RhB), which was hard to adsorb by LDHs. The effects of the photocatalyst dosage, the initial pH and temperature of RhB solution on the photocatalytic efficiency were discussed. The results showed that ZnSBCuCr-MO displayed higher photocatalytic activity for RhB than calcined ZnCr-LDHs (ZnCr-MO) and calcined ZnCuCr-LDHs (ZnCuCr-MO). Meanwhile, ZnSBCuCr-MO exhibited better stability and reusability. In addition, the possible photocatalytic mechanism and degradation pathway for RhB were studied through density functional theory (DFT) calculation of the RhB molecule, UV-vis absorption variation and LC-MS analyses of the RhB solution.

Abstract:Although it has been suggested that physical illness may compromise the results of epidemiological and social surveys that are based on psychiatric symptom checklists, the problem has rarely been investigated. This study presents a methodfor identifying physiogenic bias in psychiatric symptomatology scales and analyzes the consequences of such bias. Using an adaptation of recently developed clinical psychiatric screening procedures, occurrences of symptoms common to Langnerand Macmillan-type scales of psychological distress are classified as either physiogenic or psychogenic. Removing reported symptoms due to organic or physiological causes is shown to halve serious implications for both (I) estimates of prevalence of psychological disorder in community populations and (2) estimates of relations between psychiatric symptomatology and traditional sociocultural correlates of symptom level.
Development of 2D/2D h-MoO 3 /Ag/g-C 3 N 4 heterojunction photocatalyst with enhanced photocatalytic performance for the detoxification of methylene blue and tetracycline under solar light illumination

Abstract:In this study, direct thermal polycondensation, hydrothermal, and ultrasonic techniques were used to fabricate photocatalysts consisting of bare g-C 3 N 4 (GCN), h-MoO 3 (MoO 3 ), MoO 3 /g-C 3 N 4 (MGCN), and MoO 3 /Ag/g-C 3 N 4 (MAGCN) composites. These methods were used to improve the photocatalytic effect, especially for environmental applications. The surface and chemical properties of the fabricated samples were investigated by XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, UV-DRS, XPS, and PL analysis. Bare and composite photocatalysts were tested for photodegradation of the methylene blue (MB) dye and tetracycline (TC) antibiotic under solar irradiation. The MAGCN composite material exhibits remarkable efficiency in degrading 99 % of MB dye and 90 % of TC antibiotic within a time frame of 60 min when exposed to sunlight irradiation. The degradation rate constants (k) of MB and TC in the most active MAGCN photocatalyst were 11.02 and 7.03 times higher than those of pristine GCN, respectively. The scavenger reaction shows that the most important reactive species in the photocatalytic process are superoxide and photogenerated holes. The outstanding photocatalytic efficiency of the MAGCN catalyst was demonstrated by the fact that Ag nanoparticles act as mediators of fast charge transfer, resulting in higher absorption of sunlight, enhanced charge separation/transfer, and regeneration by MoO 3 and GCN. The MAGCN photocatalyst exhibits remarkable activity, maintains its performance over six consecutive reaction cycles, and exhibits excellent stability and reusability. Intermediates were analyzed by GC-MS, and suitable degradation pathways were proposed. These results enable the development of an effective Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst and facilitate its wide application in the degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater.

Abstract:This study utilized an eco-friendly, simple, and cost-effective co-precipitation method to synthesize pure MnS and a series of Co/MnS nanoparticles (NPs) with varying cobalt contents (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%). Thiourea was calcined at 552 °C to prepare S-g-C 3 N 4 (SCN) nanosheets. The optimal doped NPs were combined with S-g-C 3 N 4 to create a series of nanocomposites (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%). The materials band gap (Eg) values were determined using Tauc plots. Photodegradation of MB dye was conducted with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. According to the best of our knowledge, Sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride (S-g-C3N4) has been used for the first time in combination with cobalt and manganese sulfide nanoparticles to synergistically enhance visible-light photocatalytic activity, enabling efficient degradation of a toxic organic dye methylene blue. Besides photocatalytic treatment, the antibacterial results reveal that (Co /MnS/ S-g-C3N4) effectively destroyed bacteria with a synergy effect among cobalt elements, MnS and S-g-C3N4. Results indicated that doping 6% cobalt into the MnS lattice enhanced photocatalytic oxidation/reduction. The highest photodegradation performance was observed in 6% Co/MnS@10% SCN nanocomposites, attributed to improved charge separation and reduced charge recombination. The synthesized nano-catalysts maintained significant degradation percentages even after three cycles. The structural morphologies of pure MnS, 6% Co/MnS, S-g-C 3 N 4 , and 6% Co/MnS@ 10% SCN nanocomposites were analyzed using XRD and FTIR. Kinetic studies of the prepared nanomaterials were conducted to determine their rate constants. The antibacterial performance of the best photocatalysts was tested against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. The results suggest that composite synthesis and doping enhanced the antibacterial activity of MnS, with the trend for antimicrobial activity being MnS < 6% Co/MnS < 6% Co/MnS@10% SCN.

Abstract:Photocatalytic degradation technology, as one of the most important advanced oxidation technologies for environmental remediation, has attracted great attention in recent years, but designing photocatalysts with excellent photocatalytic activity and good reusability remains a challenge. Herein, three CoS/CoO microspheres (CoS/CoO-M-1 (1), CoS/CoO-M-2 (2), and CoS/CoO-M-3 (3)) were prepared via a hydrothermal method using cobalt chloride hexahydrate, thiourea, deionized water and polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different polymerization degrees as raw materials, which have a uniform size distribution in the range of 5-24 μm and specific surface areas of 6.1924 m2 g-1 (1), 6.2870 m2 g-1 (2) and 6.6663 m2 g-1 (3). It is worth noting that all the three CoS/CoO microspheres showed a wide optical absorption range from the ultraviolet to the near-infrared (NIR) region and a high photocatalytic activity for degrading methyl blue under visible light (500 W metal halide lamp) irradiation. In order to improve the portability and recyclability of 3, a mixed matrix membrane (MMM) of 3 (3-MMM) was manufactured by coating a mixture dispersion of 3 and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) on a glass substrate, which not only displayed excellent photocatalytic degradation performance, but also showed good portability and reusability (cycles > 12 times). Furthermore, adsorption and photocatalytic kinetics and possible mechanisms were studied.
In-situ constructing visible light CdS/Cd-MOF photocatalyst with enhanced photodegradation of methylene blue

Abstract:Based on high specific surface area, high porosity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and excellent visible light response of CdS, the CdS/Cd-MOF nanocomposites were constructed by in-situ sulfurization to form CdS using Cd-MOF as precursor and the CdS loading was controlled by the dose of thioacetamide. Under the irradiation of simulated sunlight, the degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) by 10 mg MOF/CdS-6 (mass ratio of MOF to thioacetamide is 6:1) was 91.9% in 100 min, which was higher than that of pure Cd-MOF (62.3%) and pure CdS (67.5%). This is attributed to the larger specific surface area of the composite catalysts, which provides more active sites. Meanwhile, the loading of CdS obviously broadens the light response range of Cd-MOF and improves the utilization of visible light. The Mott-Schottky model experiment shows that the formed type-II heterojunction between Cd-MOF and CdS can effectively inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Meanwhile, the photocurrent intensity of MOF/CdS-6 is 8 times and 2.5 times of that of pure Cd-MOF and CdS. In addition, MOF/CdS-6 showed good photocatalytic performance after five cycles, showing excellent stability and reusability.

Abstract:A synthesis method was developed to produce uniform micro-size spheres of silica coated with MCM-41 mesoporous shell for preparation of SiO2@MCM-41 core-shell. Lanthanum ion and selenium dioxide, were introduced separately and together into this core-shell structure. The SiO2@MCM-41, SiO2@SeO2-MCM-41, La–SiO2@MCM-41 and La–SiO2@SeO2-MCM-41core-shells were prepared. A range of reliable instruments and methods including X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH), DLS (dynamic light scattering) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were employed for characterization of the fabricated core-shells. It was found that presence of La in the core and SeO2 in the mesoporous shell, generate very efficient photocatalytic activity of the materials. The prepared photocatalysts were used for degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) as a model compound. The obtained results showed the photocatalytic efficiency was increased in the order of SiO2@MCM-41 (5%) < SiO2@SeO2-MCM-41 (37%) < La–SiO2@MCM-41 (57%) < La–SiO2@SeO2-MCM-41 (87%). The optimized photocatalyst was applied in some real aquatic media including river water and well water sources, and some operational parameters including the effect of catalyst loading, initial concentration of DCP, nominal power of light source etc. on final yield of photodegradation were also investigated. On the other hand antibacterial properties of the prepared substrates were investigated and the results showed effective antibacterial activity of La–SiO2@SeO2-MCM-41 against streptococcus iniae and aeromonas hydrophila.

Abstract:A three dimensional (3D) rare cubane-like tetrameric Cu(II)-based MOF 1 having formula [Cu 4 (O)(OH) 3 (bb) 4 (NO 3 ) 3 0.3 H 2 O·3CH 3 CN] n (bb = 4,4'-bis (imidazolyl) biphenyl) has been synthesized and characterized. The MOF 1 possess 4-fold dia topology and effectively catalyzes the photodegradation of basic green (BG), rhodamine B (RhB), methyl blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) dyes under UV light irradiation. The effects of initial solution pH, concentration of dyes, and photocatalyst dose have been monitored on the photocatalytic performance of 1 . The photocatalytic results suggest that MOF 1 exhibits best photocatalytic activity for BG amongst all the four dyes investigated. Under the optimal reaction condition, ∼96.8 % photodegradation of BG has been observed at pH 5, at 40 ppm concentration of BG and 30 mg photocatalyst concentration in 120 min time span. The radical trapping experiments suggest that O 2 ·− and·OH are the main active species that catalyzes the photodecomposition of dyes. The possible mechanism for the BG degradation of 1 is proposed using density of states (DOS) calculations and Hirshfeld surface analysis.
