Abstract:Breast cancer (BC) is a leading cause of global female cancer-related deaths, despite treatment advancements. A growing focus on investigating microRNA-based therapeutics and their role in BC progression. A computational analysis was performed to identify the potential miRNA–mRNA network involved in the BC pathogenesis and assist with the treatment strategy. Then, the expression levels of five circulatory miRNAs (miR-200a-3p, miR-124-3p, miR-205-5p, miR-15a-5p, and miR-155-5p) were assessed by using qRT-PCR in 75 BC patients (early-stage: n = 26 and late-stage: n = 49) and 20 healthy controls. The analysis included various (a) stages (early and late) and (b) receptor statuses (ER + ve & HER2 -ve), (HER + ve & ER -ve), and triple-negative (TNBC). In-silico analysis suggested that STAT3 serves as an efficacy biomarker suppressed by miR-124-3p. Additionally, the miR-155-5p showed the ability to activate CTNNB1 which acts as a biomarker for BC progression, to inhibit DNA repair genes ( ARID2 , and WEE1 ) , and the transcriptional factor gene ( TCF4 ). MiR-205-5p and miR-16 suppressed VEGFA expression, a survival factor for BC. MiR-200a-3p, miR-205-5p, and miR-124-3p showed downregulation in the serum of BC patients compared to controls. The ROC analysis of those miRNAs demonstrated their significant diagnostic accuracy for identifying BC patients. Additionally, miR-155-5p exhibited a significant upregulation in TNBC and can be used as an indicative marker for TNBC. This study holds significant promise for the development of noninvasive miRNA biomarkers with potential clinical applications.

Expression of serum miR-200a, miR-200b, and miR-200c as candidate biomarkers in epithelial ovarian cancer and their association with clinicopathological features

Abstract:BackgroundMicroRNAs (miRs) have been implicated in the etiology of various human cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the expression of three members—miR 200a, miR 200b, and miR 200c belonging to the miR-200 family with clinicopathological characteristics and their impact on the progression of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).Materials and methodsTotal RNA from serum was isolated by Trizol method, polyadenylated, and reverse transcribed into cDNA. Expression levels of miR-200a, miR-200b, and miR-200c were detected by using miRNA qRT-PCR. We measured miR expression in 70 serum samples of EOC patients with matched controls using U6 snRNA as a reference. Levels of miR expression was compared with distinct clinicopathological features.ResultsExpression of miR-200a was found to be greater than six-fold (p = 0.01), miR-200b and miR-200c greater than three-fold (p = 0.01) in comparison with matched normal controls. Association of miRNA expression with clinicopathological factors and progression was statistically evaluated. The expression levels of miR-200a and miR-200c were found to be significantly associated with disease progression (p = 0.04 and p < 0.001, respectively). miR-200a overexpression was found be associated with tumor histology and stage. Patients with lymph node metastasis showed significant elevation of miR-200c (p = 0.006). The AUC in ROC curve also indicated that serum levels of miR-200a and miR-200c might be worthwhile as a diagnostic tool in the near future.ConclusionOur findings suggest that miR-200a, miR-200b, and miR-200c overexpressions are associated with the aggressive tumor progression and be recognized as reliable markers to predict the prognosis and survival in EOC patients.

Abstract:Abstract Breast cancer, the most prevalent cancer among women, has posed a significant challenge in identifying biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis. This study aimed to elucidate the gene expression profile of Estrogen Receptor-1 (ESR-1), long non-coding RNA HOTAIR, and microRNA-130a in the serum of Egyptian breast cancer patients, evaluating the potential of HOTAIR and miR-130a as biomarkers for predicting pathological parameters in BC. The study involved 45 patients with primary BC, with serum samples collected preoperatively and postoperatively twice. The expression levels of ESR-1, HOTAIR, and miR-130a were quantified using real-time PCR and analyzed for correlations with each other and with the clinical and pathological parameters of the patients. Serum HOTAIR levels exhibited a strong positive association with metastasis and demonstrated a significant increase after 6 months in all patients with locally advanced and stage IV BC. Conversely, tumors with advanced stages and metastatic lesions showed significantly lower expression levels of miR-130a. Notably, a significant positive correlation was observed between preoperative ESR-1 expression and both HOTAIR and miR-130a levels. Serum HOTAIR and miR-130a levels have emerged as promising non-invasive biomarkers with the potential to predict the pathological features of BC patients. HOTAIR, an oncogenic long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and miR-130a, a tumor suppressor miRNA, play crucial roles in tumor progression. Further investigations are warranted to elucidate the intricate interplay between HOTAIR and miR-130a and to fully comprehend the contribution of HOTAIR to BC recurrence and its potential utility in early relapse prediction.

Abstract:As endometrial cancer (EC) is a major threat to female health worldwide, the ability to provide an accurate diagnosis and prognosis of EC is promising to improve its treatment guidance. Since the discovery of miRNAs, it has been realized that miRNAs are associated with every cell function, including malignant transformation and metastasis. This study aimed to explore diagnostic and prognostic miRNA markers of EC. In this study, differential analysis and machine learning were performed, followed by correlation analysis of miRNA‐mRNA based on the miRNA and mRNA expression data. Nine miRNAs were identified as diagnostic markers, and a diagnostic classifier was established to distinguish between EC and normal endometrium tissue with overall correct rates >95%. Five specific prognostic miRNA markers were selected to construct a prognostic model, which was confirmed more effective in identifying EC patients at high risk of mortality compared with the FIGO staging system. This study demonstrates that the expression patterns of miRNAs may hold promise for becoming diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets for EC.

Identification of an eleven-miRNA signature to predict the prognosis of endometrial cancer

Abstract:Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological malignancy. Recent studies have uncovered miRNA acted a striking role in predicting the prognosis of multiple tumors. Over 500 EC samples were selected from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Univariate, LASSO and multivariate Cox regression analysis were employed to screen out the prognosis-involved miRNAs. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) and time-dependent receiver operation characteristic (ROC) curves were conducted to reveal survival analysis and assess the accuracy of the signature. The independence of the model was verified via univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Besides, qRT-PCR was conducted to testified the expression of 11 miRNAs in 16 paired tissues. A total of 514 specimens were randomly divided into the training set and the testing set, then an 11 miRNAs-based signature were determined which divided the patients into high-risk group and low-risk group. The survival was markedly different and the ROC curve exhibited a precise prediction. Meanwhile, the univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis verified the miRNAs-based model was an independent indicator of EC. Moreove, the prediction ability of this model with clinicopathological features was more efficient. Finally, functional enrichment analysis demonstrated these miRNAs were associated with the occurrence and progression of cancer. Additionally, hsa-mir-216b, hsa-mir-363, hsa-mir-940 and hsa-mir-1301 were highly expressed in EC tissues in contrast to normal tissues through qRT-PCR. Importantly, the eleven-miRNA signature was full of robust ability to predict the prognosis of EC.GRAPHICAL

Abstract:miRNAs, a group of short noncoding RNAs, are key regulators of fundamental cellular processes and signaling pathways. Dysregulation of miRNA expression with known oncogenic or tumor suppressor functions has been associated with neoplastic transformation. Numerous studies have reported dysregulation of miRNA-141, miR-181b1, and miR-23b in a wide range of malignancies, including breast cancer. To the best of our knowledge, no previous study had demonstrated the expression of miR-141-3p, miR-181b1-5p, and miR-23b-3p in different histological grades and molecular subtypes of breast cancer. Here, we identified differential expression of these three miRNAs in breast cancer tissues compared with benign breast fibroadenomas. In addition, high expression levels of miR-141-3p and miR-181b1-5p are strongly associated with aggressive breast carcinomas. We also confirmed the clinical potential of using the three miRNAs individually or combined as diagnostic and prognostic markers in breast cancer. Using bioinformatics analyses, we identified 23 hub genes of these three miRNAs which are involved in key signaling pathways in breast cancer. Furthermore, the KM plotter online database analysis demonstrates the association between elevated expression of miR-141 and miR-181b and shorter overall survival of breast cancer patients. Together, our data suggest an oncogenic role of the studied miRNAs and highlight their molecular roles and potential clinical applications in breast cancer.

Abstract:Objectives: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common and fourth most deadly cancer worldwide despite its various screening method. Thus, the search for novel and better markers is continuous. This study aimed to assess the combined expression levels of miR-133a, miR-574-3p, and miR-27a in early diagnosis of colorectal cancer in comparison to traditional tumor markers (CEA and CA19.9). Methods: miR-133a, miR-574-3p, and miR-27a were assessed in sera of 120 participants categorized into healthy control group (n = 20), benign group (n = 30) and malignant group (n = 70) using real-time PCR. Results: miR-133a, miR-574-3p, and miR-27a expressions showed significant difference among different staging, grading and tumor size of CRC. The sensitivities of the three miRNAs whether combined or individually used were better than routinely used tumor markers (CEA and CA19.9) leading to more accurate and faster diagnosis of CRC. Conclusion: Synergetic detection of miRNA-133a, miRNA-574-3p, and miRNA-27a may serve as better noninvasive biomarkers with higher combined sensitivity for early diagnosis of CRC than individual detection of miRNAs.

Abstract:Serum microRNAs (miRNAs), with their remarkable stability and unique concentration profiles in patients with various diseases, are promising non-invasive biomarkers for tumor detection. The present study investigated the altered profiles of serum microRNAs in patients with endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC) in order to predict the malignancy of the disease at a relatively early stage. TaqMan® low-density arrays (TDLAs) were used to perform an analysis in the initial screening phase using serum samples pooled from seven EEC patients and 20 controls. The differential expression was validated using a hydrolysis probe-based stem-loop quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in samples taken from 26 EEC patients and 22 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. The data obtained from the TLDAs demonstrated that 22 serum miRNAs were markedly upregulated in the EEC patients compared with the controls. The qRT-PCR analysis further identified a profile of four serum miRNAs (miR-222, miR-223, miR-186 and miR-204) as a fingerprint for EEC detection. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of this four-serum miRNA signature was 0.927, which was markedly higher than that of carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA-125; 0.673). The four-miRNA signature identified by genome-wide serum miRNA expression profiling analysis provides a novel, non-invasive approach for EEC diagnosis.

Breast cancer is highly prevalent and considered the main challenge to public health among females in Egypt as in other countries. MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) and MEG-2 are noncoding RNA attributed to their aberrant expression in several diseases, including breast cancer. This study aimed to assess the reliability of serum expression levels of miR-21 and MEG-2 in discriminating stages of breast cancer and scrutinize their correlations with the targeted transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) expression. One hundred and 30 participants whose ages ranged from 28 to 62 years were included in this study, divided into one hundred breast cancer patients and 30 healthy participants. miR-21 and TGF-β expression levels showed upregulation in patients with BC and elevated miR-21/TGF-β levels consistent with the BC stage. In addition, LncRNA (MEG-2) showed down-regulation in patients with BC. MEG-2 expression levels revealed a gradual decrease consistent with the BC stage. In addition, a negative relationship between the MEG-2 and the miR-21 and TGF-β differential expression was also noticed. This study suggested that miR-21 and MEG-2 can be used as prospective diagnostic biomarkers and emphasized the crucible role of TGF-β as therapeutic targets for BC.

Abstract:Background and Objective: Identification of the predictive molecular markers for colorectal cancer is highly needed as most patients are diagnosed at the end stages with only a 5 year survival rate. The miRNAs play a dual role in colorectal carcinogenesis (CRC) both in tumor-suppressing and tumor-promoting actions. Deregulated miRNA genes in cancer tissues can act as early predictive molecular markers. The main objective of this study was to identify specific microRNAs associated with colorectal cancer in the Saudi population which can help to discover the novel biomarkers for the disease. Materials and Methods: In the present study, four miRNA genes were selected that are involved in regulating proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, migration and cancer stem cells. The expression levels of miR-21, miR-155, miR-222 and miR-23a in 20 paired samples of CRC were investigated and matched adjoining tissues through RT-PCR in the Saudi population. Results: The high expression levels of miR-222, miR-21 and miR-155 genes in cancer tissue as compared to adjuring normal tissue while expression levels of miR-23 levels were found in nearly the same in cancer tissues about normal adjoining tissues. Increased expression of all the genes in stages III and IV were noted whereas stages I and II showed lower levels of expression. The expression level of miR-155, miR-21 and miR-222 in the rectal was found higher as compared to the colon. Expression level miR-23 was almost the same in both sites. The expression level of miR-222 and miR-21 was significantly higher in males than in females. The miR-155 was expressed slightly higher in males while miR-23 was remarkably higher in females (4). Conclusion: The miRNA can be defined as molecular markers that could have crucial significance in CRC treatment in the Saudi population and also ascertain the complex alterations of gene expression underlie the development of malignant CRC.

Abstract:Background MiRNA-21 (miR-21) promotes the initiation and progression of tumor by initiating cell cycle differentiation, while miR-34a induces apoptosis through activating the tumor-suppressor gene p53, and by repressing the anti-apoptotic protein, B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl2). Aim To investigate if the expression folds change of circulating miR-21 and miR-34a could be a potential marker to evaluate the response of female breast cancer (BC) patients to the chemo-radiotherapy treatment. Subjects and Methods: The study included 159 BC patients and 58 healthy females. Among patients’ 56 were Luminal A, 41 Luminal B, 15 Her-2/neu and 47 Basal like. Regarding stages, 118 BC patient were stage II, 12 stage I, and 29 stage III. Data of miR-21 and miR-34a were correlated with Bcl2, the breast cancer susceptibility genes BRCA1, and BRCA2, and p53. Results The expression of miR-21 is upregulated (p < 0.001) in BC patients while miR-34a, is downregulated (p < 0.001), compared to control. The application of chemo-radiotherapy treatment decreased (p < 0.001) miR-21 and increased (p < 0.001) miR-34a. MiR-21 directly correlates with Bcl2 (p < 0.001) while miR-34a directly correlates with BRAC1, BRAC2 and p53 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: miR-34a and miR-21 may be considered as promising non-invasive biomarkers in evaluating the response of BC female patients to chemo-radiotherapy.

Four differentially expressed exosomal miRNAs as prognostic biomarkers and therapy targets in endometrial cancer: Bioinformatic analysis

Abstract:Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common gynecological malignancies worldwide. Accumulated evidence has demonstrated exosomes of cancer cells carry microRNAs (miRNAs) to nonmalignant cells to induce metastasis. Our study aimed to find possible biomarkers of EC. Data for miRNA expression related with exosome from EC patients were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, and the miRNA expression profiles associated with exosomes of EC were downloaded from the National Center for Biotechnology Information. We used different algorithms to analyze the differential miRNA expression, infer the relative proportion of immune infiltrating cells, predict chemotherapy sensitivity, and comprehensively score each gene set to evaluate the potential biological function changes of different samples. The gene ontology analysis and Kyoto encyclopedia of genome genomics pathway analysis were performed for specific genes. A total of 13 differential miRNAs were identified, of which 4 were up-regulated. The 4 miRNAs, that is hsa-miR-17-3p, hsa-miR-99b-3p, hsa-miR-193a-5p, and hsa-miR-320d, were the hub exosomal miRNAs that were all closely related to the clinic phenotypes and prognosis of patients. This study preliminarily indicates that the 4 hub exosomal miRNAs (hsa-miR-17-3p, hsa-miR-99b-3p, hsa-miR-193a-5p, and hsa-miR-320d) could be used as prognostic biomarkers or therapy targets in EC. Further studies are required to make sure of their real feasibility and values in the EC clinic and the relative research.
Comparative Assessment of miR-185-5p and miR-191-5p Expression: From Normal Endometrium to High-Grade Endometrial Cancer

Abstract:Endometrial cancer (EC) is a significant cause of cancer-related deaths in women. MicroRNAs (miRs) play a role in cancer development, acting as oncogenes or tumor suppressors. This study evaluated the diagnostic potential of hsa-miR-185-5p and hsa-miR-191-5p in EC and their correlation with clinical and histopathological features. A cross-sectional study analyzed formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples from 59 patients: 18 with EC, 21 with endometrial hyperplasia (EH), 17 with normal endometrium (NE), and 3 with endometrial polyps (EPs). Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and TaqMan probes were used for miR expression analysis. The Shapiro–Wilk test was used to analyze the normal distribution of the data. Subsequently, parametric or non-parametric tests were used to evaluate the associations between the expression levels of each miR and clinical parameters. Both miRs were underexpressed in some precursor and malignant lesions compared to certain NE subtypes and benign lesions. Specifically, hsa-miR-185-5p showed underexpression in grade 3 EC compared to some NE and EH subtypes (FC: −57.9 to −8.5, p < 0.05), and hsa-miR-191-5p was underexpressed in EH and EC compared to secretory endometrium and EPs (FC: −4.2 to −32.8, p < 0.05). SETD1B, TJP1, and MSI1 were common predicted target genes. In conclusion, hsa-miR-185-5p and hsa-miR-191-5p are underexpressed in EC tissues, correlating with histopathological grades, highlighting their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and their role as tumor suppressors in EC.

Abstract:In order to acquire current scientific information on sexual and contraceptive behavior of college women 10% (180) of the unmarried women at 1 college was randomly selected to answer a questionnaire. 90% participated. The data indicate that the percentage of women having sexual intercourse has increased substantially in the last few years. 65% of the total sample had had sexual intercourse at least once. 87% of the senior class women had had intercourse. Both the number of partners and the frequency of intercourse are low. Only 39% of the women used contraceptives all the time and 7% never used contraceptives. 9% of the sexually active women had been pregnant. The unexpectedness of intercourse was the reason most often given for not using contraceptives. The pill was by far the most popular method for the women followed by rhythm and foam or jelly. Of the 47% of the male partners who used contraception the condom was the preferred method followed by withdrawal.
Expression profile and functional analysis of miR-301b in patients with breast cancer: A bioinformatics, biochemical, and histopathological study

Abstract:Background: microRNAs (miRNAs) are crucial regulators of various biological processes and molecular functions. Aberrant miRNA expression has been linked in many studies to neoplastic transformation. Among these miRNAs, dysregulation of miR-301b-5p was associated with different types of cancer including breast cancer. Although many research works have investigated the function of miR-301b in carcinogenesis, few have examined its expression, biological, and clinical implications in breast cancer. Methods: we examined the expression levels of miR-301b-5p in human cancerous breast tissue compared to normal breast controls using different bioinformatic tools and RT-qPCR analyses. Results: we detected that miR-301b-5p was differentially expressed in cancerous breast tissue when compared to normal controls. MiR-301b-5p was detected to be upregulated in high-grade (Grade 3) and triple-negative breast cancers. A significant strong positive correlation was detected between miR-301b and Ki-67, the commonly used proliferative marker in breast cancer. Bioinformatics analyses using the KM plotter revealed that miR-301b has significant prognostic power in assessing the OS of patients with breast cancer. The study also identified many fundamental biological processes and regulatory pathways associated with the investigated miR-301b-related hub genes. Interestingly, the expression pattern and prognostic significance of PTEN, the top hub gene regulated by miR-301b, highlighted the prognostic significance of PTEN in breast cancer. Conclusion: The current study findings suggest the potential use of miR-301b-5p as a possible diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in breast cancer. Moreover, this study emphasized the clinical and biological relevance of miR-301b-5p in breast cancer.
Circulating microRNAs as a Fingerprint for Endometrial Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Endometrial cancer is the most common malignancy of the female genital tract worldwide, and endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EEC) is the major histological type of endometrial cancer. There is a great need for better markers with high sensitivity and specificity to permit early diagnosis and proper management of EEC. The aim of our study is to identify a miRNA classifier within plasma as a noninvasive biomarker for EEC diagnosis.METHODS: This study was a retrospective case-control analysis which contained two independent cohorts including 93 participants. First, we screened 375 miRNAs in 29 plasma samples. 9 of the miRNAs were selected to be evaluated their expression by quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. A stepwise logistic regression model was then used to establish a new classifier in the validation cohort. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy. Co-expression analysis was used to verify the independence of results.RESULTS: miR-15b, -27a, and -223 were found to be differentially expressed in the EEC plasma between the two cohorts and had few connections with other miRNAs. The areas under the curve (AUC) were 0.768, 0.813, and 0.768 for miR-15b, -27a, and 223, respectively. miR-27a and CA125 can be combined as a potential non-invasive biomarker for detecting EEC, with the AUC of 0.894.CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated three miRNAs, including miR-15b, -27a, and -233 have a good clinical value in EEC diagnosis. The classifier, including miR-27a and CA125, demonstrated a high accuracy in the diagnosis of EEC and might serve as a novel non-invasive biomarker in the future.

The expression level and prognostic value of microRNA-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown that the microRNA-15a-5p (miR-15a-5p) plays varying roles in different malignancies. However, to date, the role and prognostic value of miR-15a-5p in patients with endometrial cancer has not been explored. This study investigated the expression level of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma and its prognostic value.METHODS: A total of 108 patients with endometrial cancer treated in our hospital from January 2015 to January 2016 were enrolled in this study. The patients were followed up for 5 years. Patients who experienced recurrence or metastasis after surgery were assigned into the recurrence and metastasis group (n=45) and the remaining patients were assigned into the control group (n=63). The expression level of microRNA-15a-5p in endometrial cancer was analyzed. Furthermore, the correlation between the expression of miR-15a-5p and the pathological features and prognosis was examined.RESULTS: The expression of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma was significantly lower than that in adjacent healthy tissues (2.22±0.75 <i>vs.</i> 2.59±0.91, P=0.000). Furthermore, the expression of miR-15a-5p in the endometrial cancer tissues of patients in the recurrence and metastasis group was significantly lower than that observed in patients in the control group (1.91±0.62 <i>vs</i>. 2.45±0.75, P=0.000). The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to analyze the predictive value of miR-15a-5p in endometrial cancer tissue for postoperative recurrence or metastasis in endometrial cancer patients. The area under the curve was 0.690 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.601 to 0.798, P=0.000], the best cut-off value of diagnosis was 2.325, the sensitivity was 0.619, and the specificity was 0.733. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that miR-15a-5p expression <2.325 was a risk factor for postoperative recurrence or metastasis of endometrial cancer [odds ratio (OR) =3.544 (95% CI: 1.489 to 8.436), P=0.004]. Furthermore, the expression of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma was correlated with lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and patient mortality.CONCLUSIONS: The expression of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma is related to lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and mortality. Furthermore, the expression of miR-15a-5p was significantly decreased in endometrial cancer patients with recurrence or metastasis and thus, miR-15a-5p may have certain value in predicting postoperative recurrence or metastasis in such patients.

Abstract:Background Endometrial tumor represents the sixth most common tumor in women all over the world. HER2/neu protein overexpression was related to tumor cell proliferation and survival pathways in some malignancies. Uterine carcinomas are comparatively rare tumors that overexpress HER2/neu. Studies of the percentages of endometrial adenocarcinomas that overexpress HER2/neu have ranged from 13 to 50% with almost half of that fraction accompanied by gene amplifications. Patients and methods This is a retrospective case series study involving 38 cases diagnosed as endometrial carcinoma from January 2014 to December 2018 with full medical records in Ain Shams University Oncology Hospital and in the Early Cancer Detection Unit at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The study includes pathologically proven high-grade endometrial cancers. Immunohistochemical expression for HER2/neu was scored and analyzed. Results HER2/neu expression was positive in 36.8% of patients. HER2/neu score was negative in 57.9%, score 1 in 5.3%, score 2 in 18.4%, and score 3 in 18.4% of cases. A statistically significant association was found among HER2/neu expression and lymphovascular invasion ( P <0.05), lymph node metastasis ( P <0.05), distant metastasis ( P <0.02), and a highly significant association with FIGO surgical tumor stage ( P <0.003). Conclusions Although our results did not reach a significant association among HER2/neu-expressions and total survival, further studies on a larger sample size are recommended to validate its value as a potential predictive marker noted from the positive correlation between its expression and other prognostic factors including lymphovascular invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and FIGO surgical tumor stage.
