Abstract:Objectives: To examine the relationship between loneliness and cognitive function and to explore the mediating role of physical health on the loneliness-cognition relationship in Chinese older adults (OAs).Method: Data came from a nationally representative sample of 14,199 Chinese OAs (aged 65+) from 2002, 2005, 2008, and 2011 waves of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. A latent variable cross-lagged panel model combined with mediation analysis was used to determine the relationship between loneliness and cognitive function and the mediating effect of increase in the number of chronic conditions (Delta NCCs) on the ascertained loneliness-cognition relationship.Results: Severe loneliness at prior assessment points was significantly associated with poorer cognitive function at subsequent assessments, and vice versa. The Delta NCCs partially mediated this prospective reciprocal relationships, accounting for 2.58% of the total effect of loneliness on cognition and 4.44% of the total effect of cognition on loneliness, respectively.Discussion: Loneliness may predict subsequent cognitive decline, and vice versa. This loneliness-cognition relationship is partially explained by their impact on physical health. Multidisciplinary interventions aimed at reducing loneliness and cognitive decline per se and their associated risk factors as well as improving chronic illness management would be beneficial for emotional well-being and cognitive health in OAs.
[Study on Social Determinants and Health-Related Quality of Life among the 'empty Nest' (lonely) Elderly Chinese People].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the social determinants and health-related quality of life among the Chinese 'empty nest' (lonely) elderly.METHODS:A total of 4995 elderly, aged 60 or over were recruited in rural and urban areas of Zhejiang province, under a cluster sampling method. Stepwise logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the social determinants on the 'empty nest' elderly. Health-related quality of life was assessed by SF-36 and compared between the 'empty nest' and 'non-empty nest' elderly, using multiple linear regression analysis after adjusting for confounding factors.RESULTS:Comparing with the 'non-empty nest' elderly, the characteristics of the empty nest population were as follows: age at 70 to 79 (P = 0.0417), having higher education level (P < 0.0001), living in rural area (P < 0.0001), lower income level (P = 0.0178, P = 0.0049), with higher level of satisfaction of life (P = 0.0070, P = 0.0035) and lower level of depressive mood (P = 0.0371). 'Empty nest' elderly people had lower scores of SF-36 in BP (P = 0.0032)dimension of physical function, and RE (P = 0.0033) dimension of psychological function as well as MCS (P = 0.0342) after adjusting for age, gender, marriage status, education level, residential areas, personal income, scores for satisfaction of life and depressive mood.CONCLUSION:The 'empty nest' elderly people with the characteristics such as higher education level, lower income level and living in the rural areas should be under greater concern, especially on those people with lower health-related quality of life or poorer psychological function.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the influential factors of loneliness in the elderly aged ≥60 years in China. Methods: Data used in this study were obtained from participants aged ≥60 years from the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey, with a sample size of 7 593. Loneliness was measured with loneliness scale, and the influence of subjective and objective factors on loneliness and their interaction were analyzed with stepwise linear regression model and simple slope test. SPSS 25.0 was used for statistical analysis. PROCESS 3.3 macro program was used for simple slope test. Results: A total of 8 926 participants were included. Among the objective factors, the elderly with poor family network have a higher level of loneliness (P<0.05), and community provision of elderly care services could reduce the loneliness of the elderly (P<0.05). Elderly people with subjective aging age ≤60 years old and poor social adaptation and emotional perception have higher levels of loneliness (all P<0.05). Subjective aging age plays a negative regulatory role in the impact of community elderly care services on loneliness (P<0.05), Social adaptation and emotional perception play a negative regulatory role in the impact of family network on loneliness (P<0.05). Conclusions: Elderly people aged ≥60 years of feeling of loneliness was affected by both subjective and objective factors and subjective factors play an important regulatory role in the influence of objective factors on elderly people's feeling of loneliness in China. Therefore, while creating a good aging environment to provide strong external support for the elderly, the subjective initiative of the elderly should also be fully mobilized, to alleviate the loneliness of the elderly from these two aspects.

Age-friendly neighbourhood environment, functional abilities and life satisfaction: A longitudinal analysis of older adults in urban China

Abstract:The construction of age-friendly neighbourhoods is a priority for practice and policy to promote active ageing and increase life satisfaction for older adults. However, there has been a paucity of longitudinal evidence on the interaction effects of age-friendly neighbourhood environment and functional abilities on life satisfaction among older adults in urban China. This study makes the first attempt to examine the effect of person-environment fit on life satisfaction by the accumulative effects of age-friendliness of the baseline neighbourhood environment (measured within the WHO Age-Friendly City framework) on functional abilities and life satisfaction trajectories and the long-term effects of functioning changes on life satisfaction, drawing from four waves of longitudinal data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and latent growth curve modelling. Results indicated that the age-friendliness of transportation was positively associated with functional abilities, and housing was the primary factor that shaped life satisfaction at the baseline. Better maintenance of functional abilities could promote life satisfaction over time. For older adults living in recently built neighbourhoods, social environment factors such as associations and facilities for social participation were more important in functional abilities, and communication and information were more important in life satisfaction. For those living in neighbourhoods built before 2000, physical environment factors such as transportation were essential in functional abilities, and housing was more essential in life satisfaction; health-related facilities and services at baseline exerted a cumulative effect on maintaining functional abilities in the long run. Our findings inform policymakers about how to effectively allocate public resources to enhance older adults' life satisfaction in the Chinese urban context.

Abstract:Objectives This study investigated the association between internet use and loneliness among older Chinese adults, and the mediating effects of family support, friend support, and social participation. These associations were evaluated in the context of urban and non-urban geographic settings.Methods This study used data from the 2018 wave of the China Longitudinal Ageing Social Survey (N = 10,126), examining samples of urban (n = 3,917) and non-urban (n = 6,209) older adults separately. Linear regression and path analysis within a structural equation modeling framework were employed.Results Internet use was negatively associated with loneliness for both urban and non-urban residing older adults. Family support and social participation mediated the association between internet use and loneliness for both urban and non-urban residing older Chinese adults, but friend support mediated this association only for urban older residents.Discussion This study shed light on our understanding of the relationship between internet use and loneliness among older adults in the Chinese context. Also, these findings suggested that digital interventions for loneliness should pay special attention to the different characteristics of urban and non-urban dwelling older Chinese adults.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES:To investigate the longitudinal associations between loneliness, social isolation, depression and anxiety in the elderly.METHODS:A longitudinal cohort study was conducted among 634 older adults from three districts of Shanghai. Data were collected at baseline and 6-month follow-up. Loneliness and social isolation were measured using the De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale and the Lubben Social Network Scale respectively. Depressive and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the subscales of Depression Anxiety Stress Scales. Logistic regression and negative binomial regression models were used to examine the associations.RESULTS:We found that moderate to severe loneliness at baseline predicted higher depression scores 6 months later (incidence rate ratio (IRR)=1.99, 95% confidence interval (CI) [1.12, 3.53], p=0.019), while higher depression scores at baseline predicted social isolation at follow-up (odds ratio (OR)=1.14, 95% CI [1.03, 1.27], p=0.012). We also observed that higher anxiety scores predicted lower risk of social isolation (OR=0.87, 95% CI [0.77, 0.98], p=0.021). Additionally, persistent loneliness at both timepoints was significantly associated with higher depression scores at follow-up, and persistent social isolation was associated with a greater likelihood of having moderate to severe loneliness and higher depression scores at follow-up.CONCLUSIONS:Loneliness was found to be a robust predictor of changes in depressive symptoms. Both persistent loneliness and social isolation were closely associated with depression. We should develop effective and feasible interventions for older adults who have depressive symptoms or who are at risk of long-term social relationship problems to avoid the vicious circle among depression, social isolation and loneliness.

Abstract:With an ageing world population, preservation of older adults’ health and quality of life (QoL) is paramount. Due to lower levels of physical functionality, older adults are particularly susceptible to local environment influences, especially those living alone and lacking family support. Using generalised additive mixed models, we examined associations and confounder-adjusted associations between objectively-measured neighbourhood attributes and QoL domains in 909 Hong Kong Chinese elderly community dwellers. Most examined neighbourhood attributes were not associated with QoL in the whole sample. Neighbourhood residential and entertainment density was curvilinearly and/or linearly related to specific QoL domains. Number of parks was negatively associated with social QoL and having well-treed parks with higher levels of social QoL. Older adults living alone in neighbourhoods with poor access to destinations and few activities in parks showed lower environmental and/or social QoL than their counterparts. Neighbourhood built environment characteristics do not seem to impact Hong Kong older adults’ physical and psychological QoL. Medium-to-high density, well-ordered neighbourhoods with optimal mixes of well-treed public open spaces and services meeting their daily needs may significantly contribute to social and environmental QoL in this population and appear particularly important to those living alone.

Abstract:The present study explored the moderating effects of household income on the relationship between cognitive social capital and subjective well-being in rural community-dwelling older adults in China. The data were derived from a rural community survey conducted in Liaoyuan City in China’s Jilin Province in 2019. The analytic model featured 458 respondents who completed the survey. We used multiple group analyses to test the hypotheses. A latent construct of cognitive social capital was built using social trust and reciprocity indicators. The results showed that household income had a significant moderating effect on the association between cognitive social capital and life satisfaction, but not on the relationship between cognitive social capital and depressive symptoms. Thus, household income and cognitive social capital should be used to assess subjective well-being in older populations. Older adults with low household income deserve particular attention in the design of future social capital policies and programs.

Abstract:Background There have been few consistencies in the effects and pathways of neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) on functional limitations. This study aimed to investigate whether neighborhood socioeconomic status influences ADL/IADL in older residents in China through the neighborhood built environment and social environment. Methods Activities of daily living/IADL were assessed in a sample of 5,887 Chinese individuals aged 60 or older, utilizing data obtained from the 2011 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS 2011). Neighborhood SES was measured by the neighborhood per-capita net income. Neighborhood built environment was measured by the security resources, motion resources, living resources, service resources for older adults, and medical resources of neighborhood. Neighborhood social environment was measured by the organizations, unemployment subsidies, minimum living allowance, subsidies to persons older than 65, and pensions to persons older than 80 of the neighborhood. The two-level logistical regression model and multilevel structural equation model (MSEM) were used. Results The rate of ADL/IADL loss among Chinese older adults aged 60 and above in 2011 were 32.17 and 36.87%, respectively. Neighborhood SES was significantly associated with ADL/IADL in older adults. Compared with the respondents living in communities with lower SES, those living in communities with higher SES possessed better ADL ( β = −0.33, p < 0.05) and IADL ( β = −0.36, p < 0.05) status. The path of neighborhood socioeconomic status on ADL was completely mediated by the neighborhood built environment ( β = −0.110, p < 0.05) and neighborhood social environment ( β = −0.091, p < 0.05). Additionally, the effect of neighborhood socioeconomic status on IADL was fully mediated by the neighborhood built environment ( β = −0.082, p < 0.05) and neighborhood social environment ( β = −0.077, p < 0.05). Conclusion Neighborhood SES was significantly correlated with ADL/IADL through the neighborhood environment. Improving the ADL/IADL status of older adults residing in low socioeconomic neighborhoods requires enhancing the built and social environment by provisioning additional neighborhood resources.

Abstract:China has a large and rapidly growing older population. Loneliness is associated with a range of negative health outcomes in older adults. However, to date, there is still a lack of comprehensive and systematic evidence on the factors influencing loneliness among older adults in China. Nine Chinese and English databases were searched by computer from inception to March 2022: China Knowledge Network, WanFang Data, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, SinoMed, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library. Studies on factors influencing loneliness among older adults in China were included. Two reviewers independently completed the literature screening, quality evaluation, and data extraction, and statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.4 software. A total of 15 studies were included in the review, with 47 066 participants in total. Fifty‐nine influencing factors of loneliness in older Chinese were involved. Twenty factors with a total of 30 subfactors that were involved in two or more studies and with extractable data were included in the data synthesis. Eleven subfactors were not statistically significantly associated with loneliness, namely, male, female, lower age, higher education level, health status—fair, health status—poor, social support—none/low, no health insurance, smoking, alcohol consumption, and body mass index—overweight and above (all P > 0.05), while the remaining 19 subfactors (concerning 15 factors) were significantly associated with loneliness in older adults in China (all P

Abstract:Introduction: Recent research has identified social capital as an essential element of social context that influences the healthy aging experience. Since social capital is a resource that is context and culture relative, this study builds on and extends the existing literature on social capital among older adults by investigating different dimensions of social capital in later life and related individual and environmental characteristics in the Chinese context. Materials & Methods: Using the China Family Panel Study (CFPS) 2016 wave, 8097 individuals aged 60 years and older were included in the sample. Factor analysis was used to explore the dimensions that comprise the social capital of Chinese older adults. Multiple indicators, multiple cause (MIMIC) structural equation models were used to identify influential individual and environmental characteristics. Results: The findings of this study showed that as an interaction between the actor and the multiple levels of the social environment, the social capital of Chinese older adults derived from three levels of social environment—family, community, and macro society. Rural older adults had higher levels of social capital across all three levels. While demographic factors and functioning, including female, age, marital status, education, and functional limitations, had a significant relationship with family‐based social capital, having higher income and better self‐rated health were related to higher level of community‐ and society‐based social capital. Additionally, the physical community environment was a key determinant across all three levels of social capital. Discussion and Conclusion: Findings from this study demonstrate the important roles of neighborhood environment in shaping older adults' all levels of social capital. The findings also identified the unique role of family social capital and the need for policies and practices to reduce the vulnerability associated with a limited ability to adapt to the broader environment.

Predictors of Loneliness Incidence in Chinese Older Adults from a Life Course Perspective: a National Longitudinal Study

Abstract:Objectives: We aim to examine what factors are predictive of loneliness incidence from a life course perspective and whether predictors differ between women and men based on a nationally representative longitudinal dataset in China. Method: A total of 5,043 older adults aged 65 or above from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey who were not lonely in the 2008 wave were included in the analysis. Logistic regression models were applied to examine what factors in the 2008 wave predicted loneliness incidence in the 2011 wave. Analyses were also stratified by gender to examine gender differences.Results: Older ages and self-rated poor health increased the odds, whereas receiving one or more years of schooling, rural-urban migration, living with family members, having a white-collar job, having a good family economic status, being currently married, having a higher resilience and social support decreased the odds of loneliness incidence. We also found gender differences: socioeconomic factors were significant only for older men, whereas self-rated health, resilience, and social support were significant only for older women.Conclusion: This study offers insights into disentangling the complexity of factors associated with loneliness incidence in Chinese older adults from a life course perspective and from a gendered perspective.

Abstract:Abstract Background Although numerous studies focused on the relationship between area socioeconomic status (SES) and health, only a few of them investigated how community-level SES was linked to late-life cognitive function as well as the potential pathways underlying this association, and very few of them focused on the context of China. This study examined how community-level SES was linked to cognitive function and the potential pathways underlying this association among middle-aged and older adults in China. Methods Data was drawn from the waves 1–4 of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. We measured cognitive function with the components of the Telephone Interview of Cognitive Status battery. Community-level SES was derived from a sum of z scores of the percentage of the illiterate and the per-capita net income status within communities. We adopted two-level hierarchical linear regression models to explore the associations between community-level SES and cognitive function. A multilevel mediation analysis with structural equation modeling was undertaken to disaggregate the direct and indirect pathways of the associations. Results Higher community-level SES was associated with better cognitive function (β = 0.562, 95% CI = 0.390, 0.734), and this significant association was only present in rural participants, not in urban participants. Furthermore, we discovered the mediating effects of outdoor exercise facilities within communities (β = 0.023, 95% CI = 0.000, 0.056) and individual-level SES (β = 0.108, 95% CI = 0.057, 0.156) to explain the relationship between community SES and cognitive function. Conclusions These findings highlight the importance of community environmental interventions in maintaining individuals’ cognitive health in China, especially for older adults. Our results provided solid empirical evidence for reducing mental health inequalities in China, and suggested that developing an aging-friendly environment and properly distributing community resources are important to improve cognitive function of older adults.

An exploratory study on material deprivation and loneliness among older adults in Hong Kong

Abstract:Background: Poverty, as a risk factor for loneliness, has been understudied, and there is a need to gain a better understanding of the relationship between poverty examined by material deprivation and loneliness among older adults in Hong Kong. It also aimed to explore the possible mediation and moderation effects of social support, social networks, neighborhood collective efficacy, and social engagement in the link between material deprivation and loneliness. Methods: 1696 Chinese older adults aged 60 years and above (Mage = 74.61; SD = 8.71) participated in a two-wave study. Older adults reported their loneliness level, material deprivation, perceived level of social support, social network, neighborhood collective efficacy, social engagement, and sociodemographic information. Logistic regression was conducted to examine the effect of material deprivation on loneliness, as well as the mediation and moderation models. Results: The results indicated that material deprived older adults reported a significantly higher level of loneliness 2 years later when controlling for demographic variables, health-related factors, and loneliness at baseline. We also found that engagement in cultural activities partially mediated the effect of material deprivation and loneliness. Furthermore, neighborhood collective efficacy and engagement in cultural activities were significant moderators that buffer the relationship between material deprivation and loneliness. Conclusions: Our results suggested the need to alleviate the negative impact of material deprivation on loneliness by developing interventions focused on promoting neighborhood collective efficacy and social engagement, which could be aimed at building meaningful bonds among Chinese older adults in Hong Kong.

Abstract:Background. China will inevitably enter a medium, severe, or deep aging society in the future, and the number of elderly people living alone is also increasing. Mental health is a major issue for older people living alone. With the deepening of aging, social participation has become an important way to promote mental health and improve the quality of life of the elderly. Methods. This study uses data from Chinese Longitudinal Health Longevity Survey (CLHLS). Based on the CLHLS data of 2018, this paper uses multiple ordered logistic models to measure the mental health level of elderly people living alone through two dimensions of depression and anxiety and carries out a heterogeneity analysis on the mental health level of elderly people living alone. Results. The analysis of 2477 elderly people living alone shows that the increase of social participation in simple communication can reduce the degree of depression and anxiety of elderly people living alone, and the decrease of social participation in self-recreation can reduce the degree of depression and anxiety of elderly people living alone. In addition, the heterogeneity analysis found that the heterogeneity of social participation was more significant among the elderly living alone with different genders, ages, places of residence, and self-care abilities. Limitations. This study has some limitations, and CES-D-10 is a screening tool and cannot fully determine the presence of depression in high-rise older adults living alone. Conclusions. In the future, primary healthcare-targeted interventions can be provided according to the different degrees of depression and anxiety of elderly people living alone.

Abstract:Background: There were a few studies that examined the longitudinal association between living alone and depressive symptoms, and the vast majority of them were conducted in patients with certain diseases, such as heart failure, cancer, and glaucoma. This study aimed to examine the association between living alone and depressive symptoms in a large representative older Chinese population. Methods: The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) data from 2015 to 2018 were used. Living alone was defined as participants who did not live with others ever or more than 11 months in the past year at baseline. Depressive symptoms were measured using the 10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D10). The multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate the relationship between living alone and depressive symptoms. Results: There were 5,311 and 2,696 participants ≥ 60 years old included in the cross-sectional and cohort analysis, respectively. The risk of depressive symptoms in participants who lived alone was significantly higher than those who lived with others in both cross-sectional (OR:1.33; 95%CI:1.14,1.54) and cohort analysis (OR:1.23; 95%CI:0.97,1.55). There was a significant interaction between financial support and living alone (Pinteraction = 0.008) on the risk of depressive symptoms. Stratified analyses showed that, compared to those who lived with others, the risk of depressive symptoms in participants who lived alone increased by 83% (OR:1.83; 95%CI:1.26,2.65) in participants receiving lower financial support. However, we did not find statistically significant associations in participants with medium (OR:1.10; 95%CI: 0.74,1.63) and higher financial support (OR: 0.87; 95%CI: 0.53,1.41). Conclusion: Living alone was associated with a higher risk of depressive symptoms in the Chinese older population, and this association was moderated by the receipt of financial support. Living alone may be an effective and easy predictor for early identification of high-risk populations of depression in the older population.
Living arrangement modifies the associations of loneliness with adverse health outcomes in older adults: evidence from the CLHLS

Abstract:Abstract Background Although it has been suggested that loneliness is a risk factor for adverse health outcomes, living arrangement may confound the association. This study aimed to investigate whether the associations of loneliness with adverse health outcomes differ in community-dwelling older adults according to different living arrangements. Methods In the 2008/2009 wave of Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, 13,738 community-dwelling older adults (≥65 years) were included for analyses. Living arrangements and loneliness were assessed. Health outcomes including cognitive and physical functions were assessed using MMSE, ADL/IADL scales and Frailty Index in the 2008/2009 and 2011/2012 waves; mortality was assessed in the 3-year follow-up from 2008/2009 to 2011/2012. The effect modificaitons of loneliness on adverse health outcomes by living arrangements were estimated using logistic regression or Cox proportional hazards regression models. Results Living alone older adults were significantly more likely to be lonely at baseline (52% vs 29.5%, OR = 1.90, 95% CI = 1.67–2.16, P < 0.001), compared with those living with others. Loneliness in older adults was a significant risk factor for prevalent cognitive impairment and frailty, and 3-year mortality, especially among those who lived with others (OR = 1.32, 95% CI = 1.15–1.52, P < 0.001; OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.24–1.57, P < 0.001; HR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.05–1.24, P = 0.002, respectively). In contrast, among the living alone older adults, loneliness was only significantly associated with higher prevalence of frailty (OR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.07–1.90, P = 0.017). Living arrangement significantly modified the associations of loneliness with prevalent cognitive impairment and 3-year mortality ( P values for interaction = 0.005 and 0.026, respectively). Conclusions Living arrangement modifies the associations of loneliness with adverse health outcomes in community-dwelling older adults, and those who lived with others but felt lonely had worse cognitive and physical functions as well as higher mortality. Special attention should be paid to this population and more social services should be developed to reduce adverse health outcomes, in order to improve their quality of life and promote successful aging.

What Matters Most for Community Social Capital among Older Adults Living in Urban China: The Role of Health and Family Social Capital

Abstract:The present study investigated individual-level determinants of community social capital among older adults in urban China, with a particular emphasis on health and family social capital. A quota sampling method was used to select 456 adults aged 60 or older from 16 local communities in the city of Suzhou in 2015. Multiple indicators and multiple courses in structural equation modeling were used to examine the proposed model. Latent constructs of community social capital (i.e., cognitive social capital and structural social capital) were established. The results showed that family social capital and instrumental activities of daily living were the most influential determinants of cognitive social capital, whereas activities of daily living and socioeconomic status were the most important determinants of structural social capital. We demonstrate the application of social capital theory in an urban Chinese context. Future policy development and social work interventions should use a more comprehensive social capital latent constructs and health indicators as screening instruments. The promotion of family social capital could play an important role in enhancing cognitive social capital among older adults.

Abstract:Purpose: There is a growing population of older people living alone within the context of dramatic population ageing and changing living arrangements. However, little is known about the quality of life (QoL) of older people living alone in Mainland China. This study aimed to investigate QoL and its related factors among Chinese older people who live alone. Methods: A stratified random cluster sample of 521 community-dwelling older people living alone in Shanghai completed a structured questionnaire through face-to-face interviews. QoL was measured using the Older People's Quality of Life Questionnaire. Other data collected included self-rated health, physical health, cognitive function, depression, functional ability, loneliness, social support, physical activity, health services satisfaction, satisfaction with overall dwelling conditions and socio-demographic variables. Results: Older people living alone in Mainland China rated social relationships and financial circumstances as sources of low satisfaction within their QoL. Multiway analysis of variance showed that satisfaction with overall dwelling conditions, self-rated health, functional ability, depression, economic level, social support, loneliness, previous occupation and health services satisfaction were independently related to QoL, accounting for 68.8% of the variance. Depression and previous occupation had an interaction effect upon QoL. Conclusions: This study identified nine factors influencing the QoL of older people living alone in Mainland China. Interventions to increase satisfaction with dwelling conditions, improve economic level, social support and functional ability, decrease loneliness and depression and improve health services satisfaction appear to be important for enhancing their QoL.
