Abstract:A successful outcome of haemodialysis in a pregnant patient with chronic glomerulonephritis is reported. After a stable period of 9 years, pregnancy resulted in a definite deterioration of renal function. The importance of establishing biological maturity in preference to gestational maturity is stressed.

Abstract:One-step and in-situ FeCl3-participated 3-participated molten urea thermal polymerization strategy is designed to prepare Fe-O co-doped carbon nitride photo-Fenton catalyst (Fe/OCN). Fe/OCN exhibits remarkable photo-Fenton catalytic oxidation capacity towards recalcitrant organic pollutants, in which 0.31 wt% Fe/OCN with optimal Fe-doping level exhibits significantly 60 and 6.3 times higher pseudo-first-order kinetic constant than single photocatalysis and Fenton system in the degradation of methyl orange. The enhancement of photo-Fenton catalytic performance is mainly ascribed to the realization of ideal Fe-O and Fe-N coordination structure in the framework of polymeric carbon nitride, which can not only serve as prime sites for the adsorption of target pollutants molecules and transfer channels for directed migration of photogenerated charges, but also well-modulate electronic structure and band structure of Fe/OCN. Accordingly, the resulting boosted charge carriers separation and transfer dynamics and increased electron density around Fe active centers facilitate -Fe(II) regeneration and H2O2 2 O 2 activation, leading to the significant production of plentiful reactive species responsible for degradation and mineralization of organic pollutants. The present work provides new insight into the optimized design and precise regulation of carbon nitride-based photo-Fenton system for advanced wastewater treatment.
Preparation of Fe3O4@NiSiO3 Nanocatalyst and Performance of Catalytic Fenton Oxidation to Degrade Dye Wastewater

Abstract:The Fe3 O4@NiSiO3 nanoparticle was synthesized by solvothermal method and sol-gel method .It was characterized by XRD, TEM, BET and VSM.It was used as heterogeneous Fenton catalyst to degrade rhodamine B.The optimal reaction conditions are 5.5 of pH, 1.00 g· L-1 of catalyst dosage and 2.5% of H2 O2 dosage,the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B reached over 95%.After reusing 5 times the degradation efficiency was still stable at 95%.Acid scarlet 3R, methyl orange, methylene blue, malachite green were also used as target pollu-tants to study on the Fenton catalytic performance of Fe 3 O4@NiSiO3, the degradation efficiency of all dyes except the azo-dye reached over 95%.The Fe3 O4@NiSiO3 have good magnetic separability and recycling ability .Further research showed that Ni has a promoting effect on Fenton oxidation .
Preparation of acidic Fe-SiO2 catalyst and its catalytic reactivity in photo-Fenton reaction

Abstract:The acid-activated Fe-SiO2 composites were synthesized using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica source, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the template and salts of Fe as the iron sources. After finishing the preparation, these samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy for the morphology of the catalysts, X-ray diffractometer for the dispersibility of Fe, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer for the surface groups. To investigate catalytic activities, various photo-Fenton reactions have been conducted to decontaminate the direct red 4BS simulated wastewater under visible light irradiation. The results indicated that the sample possessing its iron source from FeSO4 had better dispersibility, but lower activities and stability than that from Fe (NO3)3. At initial pH of 6.0, both FS/1 and FS/6 not only led to 100% decolorization of a solution containing 100 mg/L direct red, but also about 79% and 99% total organic carbon were removed in respective system after reaction for 120 min. The kinetics study showed that a model in combination of first order and second order reactions was suitable for this acid-catalyzed process. Analyses of solvent-leaching stability and iron leaching demonstrated these catalysts may have long-term stability.
Fe doping in In 2 S 3 hollow nanotubes for efficient photo-Fenton degradation of emerging organic pollutants

Abstract:The primary factor in the application of heterogeneous Fenton catalysts for practical wastewater treatment lies in the effective activation of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). Herein, a Fe-doped In 2 S 3 hollow nanotube catalyst (Fe-In 2 S 3 ) is developed and optimized to enable visible light-induced H 2 O 2 activation aimed at the efficient degradation of organic pollutants. Computational analysis indicates that Fe doping aids in the adsorption and catalytic decomposition of H 2 O 2 , facilitating homolytic cleavage and resulting in the generation of highly oxidative hydroxyl radicals (•OH). Moreover, Fe doping improves the light absorption capability of In 2 S 3 and fosters the separation of photogenerated charge carriers. The ongoing production of photoexcited electrons supports the valence cycling of Fe species, maintaining elevated catalytic activity. In experiments involving tetracycline (TC) degradation with Fe-In 2 S 3 , the observed pseudo-first-order kinetic constant ( k obs ) is 5.5 times greater than that of the single Fenton reaction after visible light exposure. Within the photo-Fenton system, the k obs of Fe-In 2 S 3 is 0.151 min −1 , which is 6.5 times greater than that of In 2 S 3 . Owing to the formation of multiple active species during the photo-Fenton catalytic processes, Fe-In 2 S 3 demonstrates remarkable degradation efficiencies against a range of organic contaminants typically found in wastewater.

Abstract:To achieve efficient degradation of dye in wastewater, the core-shell nickel cobalt spinel coated with iron phthalocyanine (NiCo2O4@FePc) catalyst was prepared via a facile template method and investigated as heterogenous catalyst for degradation of dye in Fenton process. The catalysts were systematically characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N-2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. The results indicated that the NiCo2O4@FePc catalyst exhibits core-shell structure with abundant oxygen vacancies and high specific surface area (261.9 m(2)/g). NiCo2O4@FePc showed much higher catalytic activity for the mineralization of (TOC removal rate > 90%) RhB than nickel cobalt spinel (NiCo2O4), iron phthalocyanine (FePc) and the physical mixture of NiCo2O4 and FePc (NiCo2O4-FePc-M). The radical scavenging experiments and reaction kinetics experiments revealed that the excellent catalytic perormance of NiCo2O4@FePc benefits from the efficient production of center dot O-2(-) and center dot OH radical. Moreover, the catalytic performance of NiCo2O4@FePc can be well maintained in the presence of inorganic anions (HCO3- and Cl-), natural organic matter or tap water. Besides, the liquid stability and resubility of NiCo2O4@FePc were demonstrated by filtration and recyling experiment. This work can provide new insight for construction of Fe-based heterogenous catalysts which are promising for the efficient elimination of organic pollutants. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:Electro-Fenton (EF) technology emerges as a promising approach to address the treatment of persistent organic pollutants. Nevertheless, its practical implementation often comes with certain drawbacks, like the low H 2 O 2 activation efficiency, poor pH adaptability, and difficult recycling of the catalysts. To this end, we introduced highly active Fe-N-C sites onto the surface of nitrogen-doped graphene, improved the chemical environment of its central Fe atoms with Fe/Fe 3 C nanoparticles, effectively regulated the multi-electron oxygen reduction process of the catalyst in the electrochemical reaction, and realized the efficient production and activation of H 2 O 2 in the electro-Fenton process. The synthesized Fe/Fe 3 C@FeNG-1000 achieved efficient removal of refractory organic pollutants in neutral conditions. The rate constant of degradation for tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) in the electro-Fenton reaction system at pH 7 was recorded as 0.1011 min −1 . Additionally, a removal rate of 67.4% for total organic carbon (TOC) was achieved in just 120 min. The treatment of actual wastewater also showed excellent performance, with an average specific energy consumption of 6.16 kWh kg −1 COD −1 . Fe/Fe 3 C@FeNG-1000 can still achieve more than 90% degradation efficiency after 5 consecutive cycles of the experiment, showing excellent stability, and the catalyst can be conveniently retrieved via magnetic methods following the reaction. The results show that the Fe/Fe 3 C@FeNG-1000-EF system has a wide range of pH applicability, long-term stability and good recyclability, has a good application value in practical wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Photocatalysis and Fenton process are two primary and promising advanced oxidation processes to degrade organic pollutants. However, the practical applications of single photocatalysis and Fenton process are still limited. Introducing one of them into another to form a combined photocatalytic Fenton-like system has shown great potential but still faces challenges in designing a well-tailored catalyst. Herein, a confined photocatalytic Fenton-like micro-reactor catalyst with a movable Fe3O4 core and a mesoporous TiO2 shell has been constructed via a successive Stöber coating strategy, followed by an ultrasound assisted etching method. The resulting micro-reactor possesses well-defined yolk-shell structures with uniform mesopores (∼4 nm), a large Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area (∼166.7 m2/g), a high pore volume (∼0.56 cm3/g) and a strong magnetization (∼51 emu/g), as well as tunable reactor sizes (20−90 nm). When evaluated for degrading bisphenol A under solar light in the presence of peroxymonosulfate, the micro-reactor exhibits a superior catalytic degradation performance with a high magnetic separation efficiency and an excellent recycle ability. The outstanding performance can be attributed to its unique textual structure, which leads to a great synergistic effect from the photocatalytic and Fenton-like process. This study gives an important insight into the design and synthesis of an advanced micro-reactor for a combined advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).

Self-cycled Photocatalytic Fenton System and Rapid Degradation of Organic Pollutants over Magnetic 3D MnS Nanosheet/iron-Nickel Foam

Abstract:Photocatalytic self-Fenton systems by coupling photocatalysis and Fenton technology overcome the limitations of conventional Fenton reactions by in situ generation and activation of H2O2. However, a considerable amount of iron sludge is still produced. In this study, we developed a novel self-cycled photocatalytic Fenton process for the degradation of organic pollutants via an iron-nickel foam-supported MnS nanosheet (MnS/INF). Without the external addition of both H2O2 and ferrous ions, the MnS/INF 3D Z-scheme heterojunction exhibited an extremely high H2O2 production rate of 25.4 mM h-1 g-1 under visible light irradiation, which is 2-119 times higher than those of the reported photocatalytic self-Fenton systems in the literature. The photogenerated electrons of MnS/INF can participate in the Fe2+/Fe3+ cycle process to promote H2O2 activation, significantly enhancing the catalytic performance owing to the formation of a 3D Z-scheme heterojunction. DFT calculations indicate that MnS/INF can lower the energy barrier of *OOH formation and result in an enhanced photocatalytic activity of H2O2 production. Magnetic MnS/INF was easily recycled, remained very stable, and mitigated the extra undesirable Fe-containing sludge and only little iron sludge (0.43 mmol L-1) was produced after nine cycles of reuse. Furthermore, large (100 cm2) MnS/INF was used for an unassisted solar-driven in situ photocatalytic H2O2 production and rapid degradation of RhB with requirements of only water, oxygen and sunlight. In addition, MnS/INF also exhibited good performance in real wastewater containing fluoronitrobenzene from a factory (initial COD 2310 mg L-1) and wastewater from a sewage treatment station (initial COD 106 mg L-1). This work may provide leverage to minimize iron sludge from the Fenton reaction's source. The self-cycled photocatalytic Fenton system rapidly degrades organic pollutants containing real wastewater.
Study on the Enhancement of Fenton-like Degradation of Methylene Blue by Foam Glass-Supported Α-Fe2o3/s in a Wide Initial Ph Range

Abstract:Background: Methylene blue (MB) is a refractory organic dye that can pose a great threat to the aquatic environment. Fenton oxidation technique is considered as a primrose strategy to treat MB. However, the traditional Fenton reaction has the problems of a narrow pH application range, poor reusability, and lame stability. Methods: Herein, S -doped alpha-Fe 2 O 3 was supported on foam glass (FG) by one-step hydrothermal method, and a novel Fenton -like catalyst (FG@ alpha-Fe 2 O 3 /S) was successfully prepared for excellent degradation of MB. Significant findings: The removal efficiency of 30 mg/L MB by FG@ alpha-Fe 2 O 3 /S was 100 % within 15 min. The universality and reusability of the catalyst were also excellent. Notably, the degradation performance of the catalyst is almost unaffected by the change in pH values from 3 to 11. Furthermore, the application scope of FG@ alpha-Fe 2 O 3 /S was explored by an anti -interference experiment. The results of the quenching test indicate that & sdot; OH and 1 O 2 contributed to MB degradation. Comparative analysis shows that such excellent performances are primarily attributed to the stable acid oxide SiO 2 in FG. In summary, this study successfully prepared a novel Fenton -like catalyst to solve the problems faced by the traditional Fenton reaction from various aspects, which can provide scientific references for subsequent relevant studies.
Fe-based Fenton-like Catalysts for Water Treatment: Preparation, Characterization and Modification

Abstract:Fenton reaction based on hydroxyl radicals (center dot OH) is effective for environment remediation. Nevertheless, the conventional Fenton reaction has several disadvantages, such as working at acidic pH, producing iron-containing sludge, and the difficulty in catalysts reuse. Fenton-like reaction using solid catalysts rather than Fe2+ has received increasing attention. To date, Fe-based catalysts have received increasing attention due to their earth abundance, good biocompatibility, comparatively low toxicity and ready availability, it is necessary to review the current status of Fenton-like catalysts. In this review, the recent advances in Fe-based Fenton-like catalysts were systematically analyzed and summarized. Firstly, the various preparation methods were introduced, including template-free methods (precipitation, sol gel, impregnation, hydrothermal, thermal, and others) and template-based methods (hard-templating method and soft-templating method); then, the characterization techniques for Fe-based catalysts were summarized, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET), SEM (scanning electron microscopy)/TEM (transmission electron microscopy)/HRTEM (high-resolution TEM), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy)/Raman, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy etc.; thirdly, some important conventional Fe-based catalysts were introduced, including iron oxides and oxyhydroxides, zero-valent iron (ZVI) and iron disulfide and oxychloride; fourthly, the modification strategies of Fe-based catalysts were discussed, such as microstructure controlling, introduction of support materials, construction of core-shell structure and incorporation of new metal-containing component; Finally, concluding remarks were given and the future perspectives for further study were discussed. Accelerating Fe(Iii)/Fe(Ii) Cycle Via Fe(Ii) Substitution For Enhancing Fenton-Like Performance Of Fe-Mofs

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), especially iron-based MOFs (Fe-MOFs), are deemed as promising Fenton-like catalysts due to their well-developed pores and accessible active sites. However, the Fenton-like performance of Fe-MOFs is limited by the relatively low redox rate of Fe(III)/Fe(II) couples and density of coordinatively unsaturated iron centers (CUICs), which depend on the intrinsic structure of iron-oxo nodes in Fe-MOFs. Herein, we manipulated the structure of iron-oxo nodes in MIL-53(Fe) via a Fe(II) substitution method, affording a mixed-valence (i.e., Fe(II)/Fe(III)) material (denoted as Fe-II-MIL-53(Fe)) with highly improved Fenton-like performance. The substituted Fe(II) centers could serve as stronger active sites, where Fe(II)-> Fe(III) half-reaction occurs, over original Fe(III) centers to rapidly activate H2O2 for efficient destruction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). Meanwhile, Fe(II) substitution induced the formation of a larger amount of Fe(III) CUICs, which was proven by the increased Lewis acidity of MIL-53(Fe). The increased density of Fe(III) CUICs promoted the interaction between Fe(III) centers and H2O2 and thus rendered another half-reaction, Fe(III)-> Fe(II), with a greater rate. Accordingly, the accelerated cycle of Fe(III)/Fe(II) couples favored (OH)-O-center dot generation for improving 4-NP degradation. As a result, the 4-NP degradation and rate on Fe-II-MIL-53(Fe) were 1.39 and 9.48 times higher than that on pristine MIL-53(Fe). Moreover, Fe-II-MIL-53(Fe) showed a good stability and reusability over multiple cycles. Our work provides insights into the rational design of Fe-MOFs as promising Fenton-like catalysts for advanced water/wastewater treatment.
Fe Single-Atom Catalyst for Efficient and Rapid Fenton-Like Degradation of Organics and Disinfection against Bacteria.

Abstract:The Fenton-like reaction has great potential in water treatment. Herein, an efficient and reusable catalytic system is developed based on atomically dispersed Fe catalyst by anchoring Fe atoms on nitrogen-doped porous carbon (Fe SA/NPCs). The catalyst of Fe SA/NPCs exhibits enhanced performance in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for organic pollutant degradation and bacterial inactivation. The Fe SA/NPCs + PMS system demonstrates a high turnover frequency of 39.31 min-1 in Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation as well as a strong bactericidal activity that can completely sterilize an Escherichia coli culture within 5 min. Meanwhile, the degradation activity of RhB by Fe SA/NPCs is improved up to 28 to 371-fold in comparison with the controls. Complete degradation of RhB can be achieved in 30 s by the Fe SA/NPCs + PMS system, demonstrating an efficiency much higher than most traditional Fenton-like processes. Experiments with different radical scavengers and density functional theory calculations have revealed that singlet oxygen (1 O2 ) generated on the N-coordinated single Fe atom (Fe-N4 ) sites is the key reactive species for the effective and rapid pollutant degradation and bacterial inactivation. This work innovatively affords a promising single-Fe-atom catalyst/PMS system for applying Fenton-like reactions in water treatment.

Fe3O4@C Nanoparticles As High-Performance Fenton-like Catalyst for Dye Decoloration

Abstract:Water pollution has become serious environmental problem nowadays. Advanced oxidation processes (AOP) have been widely applied in water treatment. However, traditional Fenton reaction based on Fe2+-H2O2 system has obvious drawbacks, which limit its applications. In this study, magnetic Fe3O4 core-C shell nanoparticles (Fe3O4@C NPs) were prepared for the decoloration of methylene blue (MB) via the co-precipitation followed by the hydrothermal dehydrogenation of glucose. Fe3O4@C NPs showed high catalytic activity of the decoloration of MB through the decomposition of H2O2 in Fenton-like reactions. Fe3O4@C NPs had much higher activity than bare Fe3O4 cores, suggesting the coating of carbon enhanced the catalytic activity. The performance of Fe3O4@C NPs was better at lower pH and higher temperature, but was significantly inhibited in the presence of radical scavenger tertiary butanol. Fe3O4@C NPs could be magnetic separated and regenerated, and maintained with very good catalytic activity. The implication for the applications of Fe3O4@C NP-catalyzed Fenton-like reactions in water treatment was discussed.

Abstract:With the gradual increase in industrialization, more and more pollutant emissions has caused severe pollution of surface water. The scientific community has confirmed that advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are an effective measure to solve serious water pollution problems. Among the many AOPs, the photo-Fenton process has become an attractive alternative method for removing pollutants from water bodies due to its environmental friendliness, suitable price and wide range of applications. Iron-based materials widely using in the field of photo-Fenton catalysis due to their abundant reserves and low prices. On this basis, this paper focuses on reviewing the main advances in the catalytic oxidation of α-Fe2O3-based photo-Fenton materials for the treatment of refractory wastewater in recent years. We compared and analyzed the contemporary literature on the strategies to enhance the degradation efficiency of α-Fe2O3-based photo-Fenton catalysts by introducing oxygen vacancies, doping, and constructing multiphase catalysts. Effective Heterogeneous Fenton-Like Degradation of Antibiotics by Ferroferric Oxide Nanoparticle Coated Reduced Iron Powder with Accelerated Fe(II)/Fe(III) Redox Cycling

Abstract:Heterogeneous Fenton-like process based on Fe-based catalysts is an effective technology to degrade the emerging organic pollutants in the water and wastewater such as tetracycline (TC). However, the kinetically limited redox cycling between Fe2+ and Fe3+ is still a persistent challenge for its widespread application. To address this issue, we designed a novel Fe-based catalyst by coating reduced iron powder (RIP) with ferroferric oxide nanoparticles (FONP@RIP) using a simple chemical co-precipitation method. The reduced iron could rapidly reduce Fe(III) to Fe(II) and accelerate the cycle of Fe(II)/Fe(III) in the heterogenous Fenton-like system. Benefiting from the accelerated cycle of Fe(II)/Fe(III), TC could be efficiently degraded in the FONP@RIP/H2O2 system over a wide pH range 3-6, with a removal efficiency of 94.5% within 60 min. The predominant reactive oxygen species were identified as •OH and HO2•. Based on the identified intermediates, the possible pathway of TC degradation was deduced and the toxicity of pollutants could also be significantly reduced during the degradation process. Moreover, FONP@RIP exhibited stable catalytic performance during the multiple cyclic tests with only a marginal loss of catalytic components. This study presents a new design strategy of catalyst for heterogeneous Fenton-like processes, which provides a promising way for the degradation of residual antibiotics in water and wastewater.

Abstract:Fenton reaction is based on the hydroxyl radicals produced by ferrous iron (Fe2+) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which has been extensively studied for the degradation of emerging contaminants in water. To overcome the drawbacks of conventional Fenton reaction, such as working at acidic pH range, yielding iron-containing sludge, Fenton-like reaction has been developed, in which solid catalysts rather than dissolved Fe2+ are used. In this review, the current status of various Fe-based Fenton-like catalysts were systematically summarized, including (1) zero-valent iron (ZVI) and nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI); (2) Iron oxides and oxyhydroxides, such as Fe3O4 (magnetite), γ-Fe2O3 (maghemite), α-Fe2O3 (hematite) and α-FeOOH (goethite); (3) Iron disulfide (FeS2), Iron oxychloride (FeOCl). This review mainly focused on the catalytic mechanisms and applications for degradation of emerging contaminants. Firstly, the principle and chemistry of Fenton-like reaction was briefly introduced; then the catalytic mechanisms of the Fe-based catalysts were discussed in detail, including carbon-supported Fe-based catalysts and bimetallic reactive center; thirdly, their applications for the degradation of emerging contaminants in water were summarized, including dyes, phenols, pharmaceutical active compounds, pesticides and other contaminants; finally, the concluding remarks and future perspectives were given. Fenton-like reaction is a promising technology for the removal of toxic organic pollutants from water and wastewater.
Investigation of structural, optical, and magnetic properties of NiFe2O4 for efficient photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants through photo fenton reactions

Abstract:Nowadays, water pollution generated from textile effluents is one of the major problems for the human race and ecology. Hence, development of sustainable strategies to lower the water pollution level has become a burning need. In this regard, the present study focuses on the preparation of nano catalyst NiFe2O4 to catalyze the chemical reactions on industrial organic dyes for their fast cleansing from water. By sol-gel auto-combustion technique, NiFe2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized and exposed to thermal process at temperatures of 400, 600, and 800 °C. Highly crystalline phase with spinel cubic structured NiFe2O4 was formed with a crystal size of 18.71 nm, which was confirmed by XRD analysis. The FTIR spectra showed two fundamental absorption bands in the range 597.80-412.59 cm-1, which are the characteristics of tetrahedral M - O and octahedral M - O bond in NiFe2O4. The surface morphology of calcined NiFe2O4 was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The nanoparticle size analyzer exhibited that the synthesized NiFe2O4 nanoparticles had an average particle size of ∼ 291.3 nm. Three stage decomposition patterns were observed for NiFe2O4, which was analyzed by a temperature programmed STA. Zeta potential analyzer showed that the synthesized sample S1 and S2 were stable in the dispersion medium. Also, NiFe2O4 exhibited optical band gap energies for direct band transitions within the visible spectrum measured to be 1.43-1.45 eV, rendering them effective as photocatalysts under sunlight. The samples showed magnetic measurements by VSM with saturation magnetization, coercivity, remnant magnetization value of 66.81 emu/g, 4.13 Oe and 12.94 emu/g, respectively. The synthesized photocatalyst, NiFe2O4, at 400 °C, significantly degraded three toxic organic pollutants-Methylene blue, Rhodamine B, and Congo Red-under visible light through 'Photo-Fenton' reaction mechanisms. Among the three dyes, Methylene Blue exhibited the highest degradation percentage with a rate constant of 0.0149 min-1 and followed pseudo-first-order kinetic model.

Abstract:With industrialization, the need for the degradation of wastewater in the ecological environment is urgent and indisputable to ensure the sustainable development of natural organisms and human beings. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are unique because of their effectiveness in removing persistent organic contaminants and their eco-friendly treatment processes. Among many AOPs, the photo-Fenton system can promote the Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox cycle through photocatalysis. It uses the energy provided by light to improve the catalytic activity and degradation efficiency, which largely solves the bottleneck of Fenton reaction development. FeOOH, a high-performance iron-based material, exhibits excellent optical properties and intrinsically possesses rich surface functional groups, enabling its mediation of photo-Fenton wastewater treatment. This paper reviews the progress of research on FeOOH-based catalysts for treating organic wastewater in the photo-Fenton process. It also explores the various crystalline phases of FeOOH and their properties. Additionally, we systematically analyze the modification strategies for FeOOH-mediated photo-Fenton from various perspectives, addressing the fundamental challenges they encounter. Lastly, we discuss existing issues in FeOOH-mediated photo-Fenton for organic wastewater treatment and outline future research directions. This paper will help to inspire more pioneering research on FeOOH-based catalysts and further facilitate the application of FeOOH-mediated photo-Fenton.

Abstract:Degradation of organic pollutants in industrial wastewater has become one of the biggest problems that are threatening the environment, and correspondingly it is a priority for scientists to find a solution. In this work, we study the effect of the iron content in Fe-based amorphous ribbon catalysts (Fe 78+x Si 9 B 13-x , x = 0, 1 and 2) in degradation of Direct Blue 6 (DB 6) azo dye by Fenton-like process. We evaluated the catalytic efficiency by changing experimental conditions with the aim to optimize the degradation performance. The amorphous Fe 80 Si 9 B 11 ribbon showed the highest catalytic activity with its ability to degrade DB 6 by 94.65% within 15 min Fe 80 Si 9 B 11 ribbon provides more reactive sites than what generates the most hydroxyl radicals ( OH) and thus increases the degradation reaction. Degradation efficiency can be improved by increasing the reaction temperature and ribbons dosage, a correct amount of H 2 O 2 but decreases with increasing initial pH value and concentration of DB 6. Fe 80 Si 9 B 11 amorphous ribbons can be reused up to 12 times in optimal conditions, which confirms a good reusability. The excellent performance in catalytic activity and reusability of Fe-based amorphous alloy catalysts will contribute to wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Fe-based amorphous materials with the superiorities of high efficiency and low Fe sludge secondary pollution can be seen as a potential alternative to Fenton catalysts. However, catalyst deactivation on the catalyst surface hinders the sustainability of high degradation activity. In this study, the degradation capabilities of FeBCCr amorphous alloys in methylene blue (MB) solution by Fenton-like method were explored. The optimum (Fe 81 B 10 C 9 ) 99 Cr 1 ribbon with a more uniform Fe 3 B-like amorphous structure, which exhibits a thin and easily-peeled oxide layer, provides unique dynamic self-renewing to obtain excellent efficiency and recyclability. The degradation rate with 0.05 g/L (Fe 81 B 10 C 9 ) 99 Cr 1 ribbon reached 0.248 min −1 and the recyclability reached a charming record of over 90 times with a dosage of 0.1 g ribbon. The activation energy of (Fe 81 B 10 C 9 ) 99 Cr 1 ribbon (12.97 kJ mol −1 ) was found to be superior to that of most metallic catalysts. More importantly, the boron-rich film in the interfacial region can both retard further oxidation of iron and provides a channel for electron transmission, which can contribute to the persistence of a highly active microenvironment with more Fe(II) sites and highly utilization of H 2 O 2 . The limit segmentation method has verified the good performance in both heterogeneous and homogeneous reactions. This study introduces a strategy for designing high-performance non-noble metallic catalysts through cluster structure regulation, which provides a novel Fenton-like amorphous material with long recyclability of high degradation activity for water remediation.
