Abstract:Music emotion analytic is useful for many human-centric applications such as medical intervention. Existing studies have shown that music is a low risk, adjunctive and therapeutic medical intervention. However, there is little existing research about the types of music with identified emotions that have the most effect for different medical applications. We would like to discover various music emotions through machine learning analytic so as to identify modelsof how music conveys emotion features, and determine its effectiveness for medical intervention and treatment. We are developing a Human-centric Music Medical Therapy Exploration System which could recognize music emotion features from Chinese Folk Music Library, and recommend suitable music to playback for medical intervention and treatment. Our networked system is based on Support Vector Machine(SVM) algorithm to construct the models for music emotion recognition and information retrieval. Our main contributions are as follows: Firstly, we built up the Chinese folk music emotions and features library; secondly, we conducted evaluation and comparison with other algorithms such as Back Propagation(BP) and Linear Regression to set up the model construction for music emotion recognition and proved that SVM has the best performance; lastly, we integrated blood pressure and heartbeat data analytic into our system to visualize the emotion fluctuation in different music affection and make recommendation for suitable humancentric music medical therapy for hypertensive patients.

Abstract:Music is an indispensable part of our life and study and is one of the most important forms of multimedia applications. With the development of deep learning and neural network in recent years, how to use cutting-edge technology to study and apply music has become a research hotspot. Music waveform is not only the main form of music frequency but also the basis of music feature extraction. This paper first designs a method of note extraction based on the fast Fourier transform principle of the audio signal packet route under the self-organizing map (SOM neural network) which can accurately extract the musical features of the note, such as amplitude, loudness, period, and so on. Secondly, the audio segments are divided into summary by adding window moving matching method, and the music features such as amplitude, loudness, and period of each bar are obtained according to the performance of audio signal in each bar. Finally, according to the similarity of the audio music theory of the adjacent summary of each bar, the audio segments are divided, and the music features of each segment are obtained. The traditional recurrent neural network (RNN) is improved, and the SOM neural network is used to recognize the audio emotion features. The final experimental results show that the proposed method based on SOM neural network and big data can effectively extract and analyze music waveform features. Compared with previous studies, this paper creatively proposed a new algorithm, which can more accurately and quickly extract and analyze the data sound waveform, and used SOM neural network to analyze the emotion model contained in music for the first time.
Emotion-Driven Chinese Folk Music-Image Retrieval Based on De-Svm

Abstract:In this study, we attempt to explore cross-media retrieval between music and image data based on the emotional correlation. Emotion feature analytic could be the bridge of cross-media retrieval, since emotion represents the user׳s perspective and effectively meets the user׳s retrieval need. Currently, there is little research about the emotion correlation of different multimedia data (e.g. image or music). We propose a promising model based on Differential Evolutionary-Support Vector Machine (DE-SVM) to build up the emotion-driven cross-media retrieval system between Chinese folk image and Chinese folk music. In this work, we first build up the Chinese Folk Music Library and Chinese Folk Image Library.Second, we compare Back Propagation(BP), Linear Regression(LR) and Differential Evolutionary-Support Vector Machine (DE-SVM), and find that DE-SVM has the best performance. Then we conduct DE-SVM to build the optimal model for music/image emotion recognition. Finally, an Emotion-driven Chinese Folk Music-Image Exploring System based on DE-SVM is developed and experiment results show our method is effective in terms of retrieval performance.

Abstract:Music can trigger human emotion. This is a psychophysiological process. Therefore, using psychophysiological characteristics could be a way to understand individual music emotional experience. In this study, we explore a new method of personal music emotion recognition based on human physiological characteristics. First, we build up a database of features based on emotions related to music and a database based on physiological signals derived from music listening including EDA, PPG, SKT, RSP, and PD variation information. Then linear regression, ridge regression, support vector machines with three different kernels, decision trees, k-nearest neighbors, multi-layer perceptron, and Nu support vector regression (NuSVR) are used to recognize music emotions via a data synthesis of music features and human physiological features. NuSVR outperforms the other methods. The correlation coefficient values are 0.7347 for arousal and 0.7902 for valence, while the mean squared errors are 0.023 23 for arousal and 0.014 85 for valence. Finally, we compare the different data sets and find that the data set with all the features (music features and all physiological features) has the best performance in modeling. The correlation coefficient values are 0.6499 for arousal and 0.7735 for valence, while the mean squared errors are 0.029 32 for arousal and 0.015 76 for valence. We provide an effective way to recognize personal music emotional experience, and the study can be applied to personalized music recommendation.
Exploiting the emotional preference of music for music recommendation in daily activities

Abstract:The emotional use of music plays an important role in influencing people's music-searching behaviour. Many users listen to music for multiple mood regulation purposes. Therefore, emotional preference should be taken into consideration especially when building context-aware music recommendation systems which aim to satisfy users' short-term music needs. In addition, cultural differences will affect the way people experience and value emotion from music. Based on these aspects, we investigate the emotional preference of music in daily activities through a cross-cultural survey in China and the UK, and build emotional maps between activity and music for the two countries. Furthermore, we introduce EmoMusic, a novel emotion-based music recommendation service for daily activities which supports visualisation and control of music emotion through an interactive interface. A user study is presented to evaluate the application. Results reveal good usability of the service and show that visualization and interaction in a music emotion space can improve acceptance of music recommendations. Our work helps to understand the emotional preference of music for various activities and how to exploit emotional cues of music in a music recommendation service, paving the way for more user-centered music recommendation systems.
Music Sentiment Analysis and its Application in Music Therapy Based on AI Technology

Abstract:Music therapy, enriched by the integration of AI technology, represents a cutting-edge approach to harnessing the therapeutic power of music for mental and emotional well-being. AI algorithms are employed to analyze individual preferences, emotional states, and physiological responses, enabling the creation of personalized music interventions. These interventions can range from mood-enhancing playlists to dynamically generated compositions tailored to the specific needs of the listener. This paper introduces an Optimized Sentimental n-gram Classifier (OSC) model tailored for application in the context of music therapy. Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology and sentiment analysis techniques, the OSC model aims to enhance the understanding and classification of sentiments expressed during music therapy sessions. The OSC model uses the n-gram classifier for the estimation of the feature vector in the music speech signal. The classifier model comprises of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the evaluation of the music therapy for the sentimental analysis. Through extensive experimentation and evaluation, the OSC model demonstrates high accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores across multiple iterations, indicating its effectiveness in accurately predicting sentiments and classifying sessions. The model's robust performance suggests its potential to assist therapists in better understanding participants' emotional states and tailoring interventions accordingly. By providing a valuable tool for sentiment analysis in music therapy, the OSC model contributes to advancing the integration of AI technology into healthcare practices, with implications for improving patient outcomes and well-being.

Abstract:Music therapy is increasingly being used to promote physical health. Emotion semantic recognition is more objective and provides direct awareness of the real emotional state based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Therefore, we proposed a music therapy method to carry out emotion semantic matching between the EEG signal and music audio signal, which can improve the reliability of emotional judgments, and, furthermore, deeply mine the potential influence correlations between music and emotions. Our proposed EER model (EEG-based Emotion Recognition Model) could identify 20 types of emotions based on 32 EEG channels, and the average recognition accuracy was above 90% and 80%, respectively. Our proposed music-based emotion classification model (MEC model) could classify eight typical emotion types of music based on nine music feature combinations, and the average classification accuracy was above 90%. In addition, the semantic mapping was analyzed according to the influence of different music types on emotional changes from different perspectives based on the two models, and the results showed that the joy type of music video could improve fear, disgust, mania, and trust emotions into surprise or intimacy emotions, while the sad type of music video could reduce intimacy to the fear emotion.

Abstract:A model for music affective computing based on Hevner affective ring-a famous psychology model for emotion representation was proposed. A 8-dimensional vector of linguistic labels is used to represent the emotion embodied in underlying music. And a new method is introduced to measure the emotion similarity between any two pieces of music. And then, the emotional space based on a set of basic linguistic labels is established via an experiment. Considering the requirements of emotional music retrieval and multi-expert decision, a linguistic information fusion method for music emotions based was presented on the arithmetic and logic operations on the emotional space, and the examples show that our model agrees with psychological pattern of the music recognition well and truly.

Abstract:In recent years, with the further breakthrough of artificial intelligence theory and technology, as well as the further expansion of the Internet scale, the recognition of human emotions and the necessity for satisfying human psychological needs in future artificial intelligence technology development tendencies have been highlighted, in addition to physical task accomplishment. Musical emotion classification is an important research topic in artificial intelligence. The key premise of realizing music emotion classification is to construct a musical emotion model that conforms to the characteristics of music emotion recognition. Currently, three types of music emotion classification models are available: discrete category, continuous dimensional, and music emotion-specific models. The pleasure-arousal music emotion fuzzy model, which includes a wide range of emotions compared with other models, is selected as the emotional classification system in this study to investigate the influencing factor for musical emotion classification. Two representative emotional attributes, i.e., speed and strength, are used as variables. Based on test experiments involving music and non-music majors combined with questionnaire results, the relationship between music properties and emotional changes under the pleasure-arousal model is revealed quantitatively.

Abstract:With the advancement of modern medical concepts, the beneficial effects of music on human health have gradually become accepted, and the corresponding music therapy has gradually become a new research direction that has received much attention in recent years. However, folk music has certain peculiarities that lead to the fact that there is no efficient way of selecting repertoire that can be carried out directly throughout the repertoire selection. This paper combines deep learning theory with ethnomusic therapy based on previous research and proposes a deep learning-based approach to ethnomusic therapy song selection. Since the feature extraction process in the traditional sense has insufficient information on each frame, excessive redundancy, inability to process multiple frames of continuous music signals containing relevant music features and weak noise immunity, it increases the computational effort and reduces the efficiency of the system. To address the above shortcomings, this paper introduces deep learning methods into the feature extraction process, combining the feature extraction process of the Deep Auto-encoder (DAE) with the music classification process of Gaussian mixture model, which forms a new DAE-GMM music classification model. Finally, in terms of music therapy selection, this paper compares the music selection method based on co-matrix and physiological signal with the one in this paper. From the theoretical and simulation plots, it can be seen that the method proposed in this paper can achieve both good music classifications from a large number of music and further optimize the process of music therapy song selection from both subjective and objective aspects by considering the therapeutic effect of music on patients. Through this article research results found that the depth of optimization feature vector to construct double the accuracy of the classifier is higher, in addition, compared with the characteristics of the original optimization classification model, using the gaussian mixture model can more accurately classify music, the original landscape "hometown" score of 0.9487, is preferred, insomnia patients mainly ceramic flute style soft tone, without excitant, low depression, have composed of nourishing the heart function.
Research and Implementation of Emotional Classification of Traditional Folk Songs Based on Joint Time-Frequency Analysis

Abstract:Traditional folk music is built on traditional folk songs. The five types of emotions of patriotism, homesickness, affection, friendship, and love are all depicted in modern Chinese folk songs, which show the rich and colorful emotions of people of all ethnic groups in China. Modern Chinese folk songs that express these emotions have a variety of artistic features in terms of melody, rhythm, mode, and mood and provide the audience with unique aesthetic experiences. This paper focuses on JTFA- (Joint Time-Frequency Analysis-) based emotional classification of traditional folk songs, as well as PCA (principal component analysis) and KPCA (Kernel-Based Principle Component Analysis) methods for nonstationary signal feature dimension reduction. The simulation results show that the number of features in KPCA is less than in PCA for the same accuracy. When the number of features is equal to the number of principal components, the accuracy is higher than PCA, indicating that KPCA has a better effect in dimension reduction and feature extraction. Furthermore, in all categories, the double-layer classification model maintains a relatively high recall rate and accuracy rate, demonstrating the effectiveness of the double-layer multimusic emotion classification model.

Analysis of Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy Techniques Based on Instrumental Music Chinese Tonal Language Spectrogram Analysis

Abstract:This paper provides an in-depth analysis of timbre-speech spectrograms in instrumental music, designs a model analysis of rehabilitation occupational therapy techniques based on the analysis of timbre-speech spectrograms in instrumental music, and tests the models for comparison. Starting from the mechanism of human articulation, this paper models the process of human expression as a time-varying linear system consisting of excitation, vocal tract, and radiation models. The system’s overall architecture is designed according to the characteristics of Chinese speech and everyday speech rehabilitation theory (HSL theory). The dual judgment of temporal threshold and short-time average energy realized the phonetic length training. Tone and clear tone training were achieved by linear predictive coding technique (LPC) and autocorrelation function. Using the DTW technique, isolated word speech recognition was achieved by extracting Mel-scale Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) parameters of speech signals. The system designs corresponding training scenes for each training module according to the extracted speech parameters, combines the multimedia speech spectrogram motion situation with the speech parameters, and finally presents the training content as a speech spectrogram, and evaluates the training results through human-machine interaction to stimulate the interest of rehabilitation therapy and realize the speech rehabilitation training of patients. After analyzing the pre- and post-test data, it was found that the p -values of all three groups were <0.05, which was judged to be significantly different. Also, all subjects changed their behavioral data during the treatment. Therefore, it was concluded that the music therapy technique could improve the patients’ active gaze communication ability, verbal command ability, and active question-answering ability after summarizing the data, i.e., the hypothesis of this experiment is valid. Therefore, it is believed that the technique of timbre-speech spectrogram analysis in instrumental music can achieve the effect of rehabilitation therapy to a certain extent.

Research on Emotional Semantic Retrieval of Attention Mechanism Oriented to Audio-visual Synesthesia

Abstract:Digital video is widely used to record people's daily lives and share people's moods, but few researchers have conducted research on the consistency of emotional expression between short videos and music. In order to be able to match the appropriate background music to the short video image autonomously and efficiently, the paper analyzed the emotional connection between the two from the audio-visual synesthesia. First, emotional semantics was used as a bridge to connect video data and music data, and a video-music synesthesia data set based on semantic words was constructed. Then, an attention mechanism was incorporated to better extract key features in video images. In the extraction of music features, an improved lenet5 network was used, and the optimal network parameters were determined through experiments. Finally, the two types of features were fused and the mutual retrieval between video and music was performed. In order to compare the performance of different models, different CNN models were calculated in the processing of video images, including VGG16, VGG19, AlexNet and GoogleNet, and the attention mechanism was added to each network for calculation to compare its retrieval accuracy. In the processing of music data, different CNN algorithms were also used for comparative experiments, and networks with different layers were used to determine the optimal results. The experimental results show that the audiovisual synesthesia retrieval model based on emotion can effectively measure the emotional similarity between video images and music, and the method of the paper can produce a good match between them. The research method of the paper is the exploration of computer synesthetic intelligence, which can stimulate the creative inspiration of image and music creative designers. While enhancing the emotional experience of digital products, it also improves the efficiency and quality of development.

Abstract:Music emotion describes the inherent emotional connotation of a music clip. This paper aims to apply fuzzy strategies to studying emotional recognition of digital chime bell music, and a three-layer hierarchical framework is presented to automate the task of music emotion recognition from chime bell music data, by consulting some music experts as well as music literature. Firstly, this paper constructs an emotional loop as the emotional model for chime bell music. Secondly, a fuzzy multi-decision-making model for multi-object system and membership function are established. At last, by means of fuzzy math, the emotion of chime bell music is recognized. Experimental evaluations indicate that the proposed system can produce satisfactory results.

Abstract:Music Emotion Recognition involves the automatic identification of emotional elements within music tracks, and it has garnered significant attention due to its broad applicability in the field of Music Information Retrieval. It can also be used as the upstream task of many other human-related tasks such as emotional music generation and music recommendation. Due to existing psychology research, music emotion is determined by multiple factors such as the Timbre, Velocity, and Structure of the music. Incorporating multiple factors in MER helps achieve more interpretable and finer-grained methods. However, most prior works were uni-domain and showed weak consistency between arousal modeling performance and valence modeling performance. Based on this background, we designed a multi-domain emotion modeling method for instrumental music that combines symbolic analysis and acoustic analysis. At the same time, because of the rarity of music data and the difficulty of labeling, our multi-domain approach can make full use of limited data. Our approach was implemented and assessed using the publicly available piano dataset EMOPIA, resulting in a notable improvement over our baseline model with a 2.4% increase in overall accuracy, establishing its state-of-the-art performance.

Emotion Embedding Spaces for Matching Music to Stories

Abstract:Content creators often use music to enhance their stories, as it can be a powerful tool to convey emotion. In this paper, our goal is to help creators find music to match the emotion of their story. We focus on text-based stories that can be auralized (e.g., books), use multiple sentences as input queries, and automatically retrieve matching music. We formalize this task as a cross-modal text-to-music retrieval problem. Both the music and text domains have existing datasets with emotion labels, but mismatched emotion vocabularies prevent us from using mood or emotion annotations directly for matching. To address this challenge, we propose and investigate several emotion embedding spaces, both manually defined (e.g., valence/arousal) and data-driven (e.g., Word2Vec and metric learning) to bridge this gap. Our experiments show that by leveraging these embedding spaces, we are able to successfully bridge the gap between modalities to facilitate cross modal retrieval. We show that our method can leverage the well established valence-arousal space, but that it can also achieve our goal via data-driven embedding spaces. By leveraging data-driven embeddings, our approach has the potential of being generalized to other retrieval tasks that require broader or completely different vocabularies.

Emotional representation of music in multi-source data by the Internet of Things and deep learning

Abstract:The increasing number of users on the internet and the massive digital music require efficient music retrieval means and a satisfactory retrieval experience for users. The objectives are to enable users to have a common emotional interaction with the emotional representation of the music itself in the process of experiencing music. Firstly, starting from the principle of multi-modal technology, Internet of Things sensors are used to recognize the emotional representation of music. Secondly, the Naive Bayes Classifier based on deep learning is used to classify the emotion of music works, as well as the emotion classification of users' feelings of music. Finally, the analysis of the emotional representation of music and emotional experience analysis of the user is carried out, and the accuracy of music emotion classification is also studied from different classification methods. The results show that under the Naive Bayes classification, the highest recognition rate of music in the emotionally exciting category is 0.53, the healing category is 0.32, the relaxation category is 0.16, the romance category is 0.30, the nostalgic category is 0.35, the loneliness category is 0.28, and the quiet category is 0.21. The highest recognition rate of loneliness in the user's emotions is 0.63, followed by nostalgia, excitement and romance, which are 0.55, 0.45 and 0.31, respectively. According to the analysis of user experience and the use of listening to songs, music representations such as loneliness are in line with user experience. Naive Bayes has the highest accuracy in music emotion classification in multi-source data, which is 86.64%. It has important reference significance for multimodal music emotional analysis and emotional resonance analysis between music and listeners.

Abstract:Sentiment analysis is a continuously explored area of text processing that deals with the computational analysis of opinions, sentiments, and subjectivity of text. However, this idea is not limited to text and speech, in fact, it could be applied to other modalities. In reality, humans do not express themselves in text as deeply as they do in music. The ability of a computational model to interpret musical emotions is largely unexplored and could have implications and uses in therapy and musical queuing. In this paper, two individual tasks are addressed. This study seeks to (1) predict the emotion of a musical clip over time and (2) determine the next emotion value after the music in a time series to ensure seamless transitions. Utilizing data from the Emotions in Music Database, which contains clips of songs selected from the Free Music Archive annotated with levels of valence and arousal as reported on Russel's circumplex model of affect by multiple volunteers, models are trained for both tasks. Overall, the performance of these models reflected that they were able to perform the tasks they were designed for effectively and accurately.
