Abstract:Back pain is a worldwide health problem, adding a tremendous burden to modern societies. However, little information on back health is available in China, even though a quarter of the world's population is Chinese. To enhance knowledge in this area, we designed and initiated the Hangzhou Lumbar Spine Study, which is a cross-sectional study of a general sample of mainland Chinese with focusing on disc degeneration, Modic changes, endplate lesions, and back pain. The study consists of a structured questionnaire to measure back pain history and lifetime exposure to suspected risk factors, magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine, bone mineral density study of the spine and hip, and DNA sample analysis. Here we briefly introduce the study methodology, report the test-retest reliability of the questionnaire, and describe the cohort profile to date. Since May 2014, 301 randomly selected subjects (male/female, 122/179; mean age, 51.0 years; range, 20-87 years) have been recruited. Tests-retests of the questionnaire, completed by 40 participants, revealed good reliability. To our knowledge, the Hangzhou Lumbar Spine Study is the first population-based epidemiological study conducted to characterize lumbar spinal phenotypes and back pain, their interaction, and their associations with lifetime environmental exposure, in mainland Chinese. Epidemiological information obtained from a reliable questionnaire, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging data, dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) measurements, and DNA analysis may serve as a valuable reference for future studies on back health, particularly for mainland Chinese.

Abstract:Introduction: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is one of the most common conditions associated with functional disability, affecting patients' quality of life (QOL). Disability can be affected by cognitive factors, such as pain catastrophizing. Similarly, unfulfilled basic psychological needs (i.e., autonomy, competence, relatedness) are associated with biases in pain perception and QOL. Using the fear-avoidance model and the self-determination theory, this study investigates: (1) the separate contribution of pain-related variables and basic psychological needs satisfaction in predicting QOL in patients proposed for LDH surgery; (2) pre- and post-surgical differences in pain catastrophizing and basic psychological needs satisfaction. Methods: First, we used hierarchical regression on 193 patients (M age = 46.10, SD age = 11.40) to identify predictors of QOL. Second, we performed paired t -tests on 55 patients to investigate pre- and post-surgical differences in pain catastrophizing and basic psychological needs satisfaction. Results: Hierarchical regression showed that the model predicts 27% of the variance in QOL; medium pain level, age, pain catastrophizing, and basic psychological needs satisfaction were significant predictors. Also, pain catastrophizing significantly decreased after surgery [t (54) = 6.07, p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 0.81], but basic psychological needs satisfaction did not modify significantly. Discussion: This research confirms the importance of pain perception and pain catastrophizing for LDH patients' QOL and broadens the applicability of the self-determination theory for spinal patients.

Abstract:Objective:To explore anxiety and depression status of patients who were diagnosed with lumbar disc herniation and/or lumbar spinal stenosis and its influence on pain evaluation.Methods:Data were collected from 128 hospitalized patients who suffered chronic low back pain caused by lumbar disc herniation and/or lumbar spinal stenosis, and the implied consents were achieved. The assessment of anxiety and depression and the measurement of pain level were conducted by self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) respectively.Results: There were 40.60%of the patients experienced anxiety or depression, while both symptoms of depression and anxiety occurred in 22.70% of the patients . Correlation analysis showed a high correlation between the anxiety and the depression with correlation coefficient r = 0.60 (P< 0.01). The VAS score of the patients with the symptoms of depression and anxiety and that of the patients without these symptoms were 7.69±2.00 and 6.89±1.69 respectively, witht = -2.43 (P< 0.05).Conclusion:The anxiety and depression status may increase pain level of these patients. Psychological assessment and interventions toward anxiety and depression were important for the control and management of chronic pain.
Prevalence of lumbar disc herniation in populations with different symptoms based on magnetic resonance imaging study

Abstract:Background: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is common in aged human beings. This study is to investigate the prevalence of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) in different symptomatic populations attending outpatient clinics based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, and to analyze the characteristics, distribution, and treatment strategies thereof. Methods: Patients who visited our outpatient clinics between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, with complaints of low back pain, either accompanied or unaccompanied by lower limb symptoms (radiating pain, numbness or muscle weakness), were included. All patients underwent comprehensive lumbar spine MRI examinations. The prevalence of LDH in different symptomatic populations, as well as the characteristics, distribution, and treatment strategies of disc herniation were analyzed. Results: Among 8,161 individuals (3,411 males and 4,750 females), 4,496 were diagnosed with LDH, resulting in a prevalence of 55.1 %. Of these, 683 (15.2 %) individuals underwent surgical treatment. Among all patients, 3,529 exhibited only low back pain symptoms, 1,820 (51.6 %) were diagnosed with LDH, and 201 (11.0 %) received surgical treatment. Additionally, 2,673 patients with low back pain accompanied by lower limb symptoms were identified, with 1,608 individuals (82.1 %) diagnosed with LDH; 319 (19.8 %) underwent surgical treatment. Furthermore, 1,959 patients presented with lower limb symptoms only, 1,068 (54.5 %) were diagnosed with LDH, and 163 received surgical treatment (P < 0.001). The prevalence rate for males was 58.8 %, compared to females with 52.4 % (P < 0.01). The prevalence of LDH exhibited an initially increasing trend, later decreasing with advancing age. L4/5 and L5/S1 were the most commonly affected segments. Conclusion: LDH prevalence varies among patients with different symptoms, with a higher rate in those presenting with low back pain accompanied by lower limb symptoms. These symptomatic patients also exhibit a higher rate of surgical intervention.

Abstract:Introduction: Lumbar disc herniation, a chronic degenerative disease, is one of the major contributors to chronic low back pain and disability. Although many studies have been conducted in the past on brain function in chronic low back pain, most of these studies did not classify chronic low back pain (cLBP) patients according to their etiology. The lack of etiologic classification may lead to inconsistencies between findings, and the correlation between differences in brain activation and clinical symptoms in patients with cLBP was less studied in the past. Methods: In this study, 36 lumbar disc herniation patients with chronic low back pain (LDHCP) and 36 healthy controls (HCs) were included to study brain activity abnormalities in LDHCP. Visual analogue scale (VAS), oswestry disability index (ODI), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS) were used to assess clinical symptoms. Results: The results showed that LDHCP patients exhibited abnormally increased and diminished activation of brain regions compared to HCs. Correlation analysis showed that the amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF) in the left middle frontal gyrus is negatively correlated with SAS and VAS, while the right superior temporal gyrus is positively correlated with SAS and VAS, the dorsolateral left superior frontal gyrus and the right middle frontal gyrus are negatively correlated with VAS and SAS, respectively. Conclusion: LDHCP patients have brain regions with abnormally increased and abnormally decreased activation compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, some of the abnormally activated brain regions were correlated with clinical pain or emotional symptoms.

Analysis of Anxiety, Depression and Related Factors in Patients with Chronic Lumbocrural Pain Before Minimally Invasive Surgery

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate anxiety and/or depression status of patients with chronic lumbocrural pain, and to further analyze related risk factors of anxiety and/or depression .METHODS:Retrospective analysis of the medical data of patients who suffered from chronic lumbocrural pain caused by lumbar disc herniation and/or lumbar spinal stenosis and received minimally invasive surgery from March 2018 to April 2018. General data (including age, gender, education levels, past history, sleep order and medical insurance), numeric rating scale(NRS), Japanese Orthopedic Association(JOA) back pain scale and hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS) were collected for analysis. The basic demographic data and clinic data were analyzed, possible related risk factors associated were analyzed by univariate analysis, and multivariate Logistic regression analysis was further used to find the relative independent risk factors and included all the predictive variables with P values less than 0.05 as covariates.RESULTS:A total of 91 patients met the inclusion criteria and finished this study, the mean HADS score for anxiety was 8.1±4.2, 48(52.7%) respondents were screened positive for anxiety, while the rest 43(47.3%) patients had negative anxiety state, the mean HDDS score for depression was 6.9±4.9, 38(41.8%) respondents were screened positive for depression, and the rest 53(58.2%) patients were not depressed, and 56(61.5%) patients experienced anxiety or depression. There were significant difference in sleep disorder, JOA score and leg NRS score between the patients with and without anxiety(P<0.05), and the significant differences were also found in age, sleep disorder and JOA score between the patients with and without depression(P<0.05), Logistic regression analysis further showed that the JOA score and sleep disorder were risk factors for anxiety, and the JOA score was risk factor for depression.CONCLUSION:Patients with chronic lumbocrural pain are often accompanied by anxiety and/or depression before minimally surgery, the low JOA score and sleep disturbance increased the risk of presenting anxiety, and the low JOA score increased the risk of developing depression. It is necessary to evaluate mental status and related risk factors before surgery.
Prevalence, distribution characteristic and risk factors of lumbar vertebral axial rotation in patients with lumbar disc herniation: a retrospective study

Abstract:This retrospective study aimed to investigate the impact of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) on vertebral axial rotation (VAR) in the lumbar spine, focusing on both close and distant neighboring vertebrae. A total of 516 patients with LDH and an equal number of healthy individuals were included in the study, matched for age and gender. The degree of axial rotation for each lumbar spine vertebra was assessed using the Nash–Moe index. The results revealed that the prevalence of VAR in the lumbar spine was significantly higher in the LDH group compared to the Control group (65.7% vs 46.7%, P < 0.001). Among the LDH group, the L2 vertebra had the highest frequency of VAR (49.5%), followed by L1 (45.1%), and then L3 to L5 (33.6%, 8.9%, 3.1%, respectively). A similar pattern was observed in the Control group (L2, 39.8%; L1, 34.6%; L3, 23.2%; L4, 3.1%; L5, 0.8%). Furthermore, the study found that disc herniation was associated with a higher incidence of VAR not only in close neighboring vertebrae but also in distant neighboring vertebrae. This indicates that the biomechanical influence of LDH extends beyond just the immediate adjacent vertebrae. To identify potential risk factors for VAR in LDH patients, multivariate analysis was performed. The results revealed that age was an independent risk factor for VAR (OR 1.022, 95% CI [1.011, 1.034], P < 0.001). However, the duration of symptoms and presence of back pain were not found to be significant risk factors for VAR.

Abstract:The major symptoms of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) are low back pain, radiative lower extremity pain, and lower limb movement disorder. Patients with LDH suffer from great distress in their daily life accompanied by severe economic hardship and difficulty in self-care, with an increasing tendency in the aging population. PubMed and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for relevant studies of spontaneous resorption or regression in LDH after conservative treatment and for other potential studies, which included those from inception to June 30, 2023. The objective of this narrative review is to summarize previous literatures about spontaneous resorption in LDH and to discuss the mechanisms and influencing factors in order to assess the probability of spontaneous resorption by conservative treatment. Spontaneous resorption without surgical treatment is influenced by the types and sizes of the LDH, inflammatory responses, and therapeutic factors. If the lumbar disc herniated tissue comprises a higher percentage of cartilage or modic changes have been shown on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), resorption in LDH is prevented. The bull' s eye sign on enhanced MRI, which is a ring enhancement around a protruding disc, is a vital indicator for easy reabsorption. In addition, the type of extrusion and sequestration in LDH could forecast the higher feasibility of natural reabsorption. Moreover, the higher the proportion of protrusion on the intervertebral disc tissue within the spinal canal, the greater the likelihood of reabsorption. Therefore, which illustrates the feasibility of conservative treatments for LDH. Nonsurgical management of LDH with clinical symptoms is recommended by the authors.
Altered spontaneous brain activity in lumbar disc herniation patients: insights from an ALE meta-analysis of neuroimaging data

Abstract:Objective: To explore the characteristics of spontaneous brain activity changes in patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH), and help reconcile the contradictory findings in the literature and enhance the understanding of LDH-related pain. Materials and methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), SinoMed, and Wanfang databases were searched for literature that studies the changes of brain basal activity in patients with LDH using regional homogeneity (ReHo) and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation/fraction amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF/fALFF) analysis methods. Activation likelihood estimation (ALE) was used to perform a meta-analysis of the brain regions with spontaneous brain activity changes in LDH patients compared with healthy controls (HCs). Results: A total of 11 studies were included, including 7ALFF, 2fALFF, and 2ReHo studies, with a total of 269 LDH patients and 277 HCs. Combined with the data from the ALFF/fALFF and ReHo studies, the meta-analysis results showed that compared with HCs, LDH patients had increased spontaneous brain activity in the right middle frontal gyrus (MFG), left anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and the right anterior lobe of the cerebellum, while they had decreased spontaneous brain activity in the left superior frontal gyrus (SFG). Meta-analysis using ALFF/fALFF data alone showed that compared with HCs, LDH patients had increased spontaneous brain activity in the right MFG and left ACC, but no decrease in spontaneous brain activity was found. Conclusion: In this paper, through the ALE Meta-analysis method, based on the data of reported rs-fMRI whole brain studies, we found that LDH patients had spontaneous brain activity changes in the right middle frontal gyrus, left anterior cingulate gyrus, right anterior cerebellar lobe and left superior frontal gyrus. However, it is still difficult to assess whether these results are specific and unique to patients with LDH. Further neuroimaging studies are needed to compare the effects of LDH and other chronic pain diseases on the spontaneous brain activity of patients. Furthermore, the lateralization results presented in our study also require further LDH-related pain side-specific grouping study to clarify this causation. Abstract:THERE are relatively few electroencephalographic studies on inflammatory and demyelinating diseases of the nervous system. Berger1observed normal tracings in cases of epidemic encephalitis; his findings were corroborated by Schwab and Cobb.2Gibbs and Gibbs,3however, studying cases of severe acute encephalomyelitis, reported continuous slow waves which may be generalized over the entire cortex or located predominantly over a particular zone, thereby suggesting a focus. Lindsley and Cutts4observed a case of encephalitis in a 10 year old boy with repeated electroencephalograms. During the acute phase the record showed continuous slow activity; this abnormality gradually decreased to normal when the symptoms disappeared. Ross5noted large slow waves, often bilaterally synchronous, in 4 children with acute encephalitis and meningoencephalitis. Abstract:Background: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety symptoms among patients with chronic low back pain and explore its related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on patients with chronic low back pain from two general hospitals in China. Anxiety symptoms were assessed by the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7. Binary logistic regression was used to examine the association between demographic characteristics, pain severity, pain self-efficacy, family functioning and anxiety symptoms. Results: This study involved 1,172 chronic low back pain patients, with an effective rate of 94.67%. The prevalence of anxiety symptoms among patients with chronic low back pain in China was 23.89%. In the binary logistic regression, patients with more severe pain (OR = 1.15, 95%CI: 1.11–1.18) and pain duration between 1~5 years (1~3 years: OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.38–4.36; 3~5 years: OR = 2.99, 95%CI: 1.49–6.00) had a higher risk to anxiety symptoms. In contrast, patients with higher monthly income (OR = 0.62, 95%CI: 0.39–0.98), better family functioning (highly functional family: OR = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.13–0.37; moderately dysfunctional family: OR = 0.44, 95% CI: 0.27–0.72) and higher pain self-efficacy (OR = 0.95, 95%CI: 0.94–0.96) had a lower risk to anxiety symptoms. Conclusion: The prevalence of anxiety symptoms among chronic low back pain patients was high in China. Targeted intervention measures should be taken to reduce anxiety symptoms levels of chronic low back pain patients.

Assessment of MIR3142HG genetic polymorphisms and the susceptibility of lumbar disc herniation in the Chinese population

Abstract:Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common degenerative disease of the lumbar spine, which is related to host genetic factors. Our study aimed to explore the association between MIR3142HG polymorphisms and LDH susceptibility. Six SNPs in MIR3142HG from 504 LDH patients and 500 healthy individuals were genotyped by the Agena MassARRAY platform. The relationship between SNPs and LDH susceptibility was evaluated with logistic regression analysis by calculating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The interactions between SNP and SNP were analyzed using the multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) method. Our study showed that rs7727115 was related to a decreased susceptibility to LDH. Rs2961920 and rs58747524 were significantly associated with an increased risk of LDH. Stratified analysis showed that rs7727115 reduced the risk of LDH in patients aged > 49 years. Rs17057846, rs2961920, and rs58747524 had a risk-increasing influence on patients aged > 49 years and women. Besides, rs7727115 decreased susceptibility in cases of disc prolapse, while rs2961920 and rs58747524 increased the risk. Rs2431689 increased susceptibility in patients with a single hernia, and rs58747524 correlated with an increased risk in cases of multiple hernias. Moreover, MDR analysis indicated that the combination of rs1582417, rs2431689, rs7727115, rs17057846, rs2961920, and rs58747524 was the best predictive model for LDH. Our study showed that MIR3142HG polymorphisms were significantly associated with LDH risk, which suggests that MIR3142HG polymorphisms play some potential roles in diagnosing LDH.

Abstract:Background: Traditional Chinese exercises (TCEs) have played a significant role in treating various diseases. However, there is limited research assessing the efficacy of TCEs in treating Lumbar disc herniation (LDH). This study aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of four commonly used TCEs (Baduanjin, Yijinjing, Taichi, and Wuqinxi) on pain and disability in elderly patients with LDH. Objectives: To assess the quality of relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to provide evidence support for the treatment of LDH. Methods: RCTs were identified through eight databases. Meta-analysis and trial sequence analysis (TSA) were conducted using RevMan 5.4, Stata 17.0, and TSA 0.9. Results: A total of 22 RCTs, involving 1931 patients, were included in the analysis. TCEs exhibited a superior effectiveness in treating LDH compared to the control group. However, the TSA analysis suggested the possibility of false positives, indicating the need for more high-quality RCT evidence. Nevertheless, TCEs showed reliable results in significantly improving the VAS score and JOA score of LDH patients. Conclusion: Current evidence indicates that the four TCEs have advantages in treating LDH in middle-aged and elderly individuals. However, considering the limitations of this study, we need to exercise caution in drawing conclusions, and further research is required to validate these findings. Abstract:Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is now a widespread and common disease with a large number of patients. Chronic pain caused by LDH has now become an important problem affecting the broad masses of the people, causing a serious impact on the peoples daily life and economy, and even the production and economy of the society. In the treatment of chronic pain for LDH has a long history, in recent years also has many new treatment methods, but because of its complex pathogenesis, there is still few treatments, can achieve better effect in LDH chronic pain, makes it has become a worldwide problem. This paper will conduct the latest review of modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of LDH chronic pain, in-depth research and explore the treatment of LDH chronic pain, in order to provide scientific research ideas and scientific basis for clinical treatment and research of this disease.

Abstract:ABSTRACT In English, gains in decoding skill do not map directly onto increases in word reading. However, beyond the Self-Teaching Hypothesis, little is known about the transfer of decoding skills to word reading. In this study, we offer a new approach to testing specific decoding elements on transfer to word reading. To illustrate, we modeled word-reading gains among children with reading disability enrolled in Phonological and Strategy Training (PHAST) or Phonics for Reading (PFR). Conditions differed in sublexical training with PHAST stressing multilevel connections and PFR emphasizing simple grapheme-phoneme correspondences. Thirty-seven children with reading disability, 3rd to 6th grade, were randomly assigned 60 lessons of PHAST or PFR. Crossed random-effects models allowed us to identify specific intervention elements that differentially impacted word-reading performance at posttest, with children in PHAST better able to read words with variant vowel pronunciations. Results suggest that sublexical emphasis influences transfer gains to word reading.

T o identify and characterize any differences in specific patient factors, MRI findings, features of spontaneous disc resorption, and outcomes between patients with single- and multi-level LDH. Background. Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is one of the most common spinal pathologies worldwide. Though many cases of LDH resolve by spontaneous resorption, the mechanism underlying this “self-healing” phenomenon remains poorly understood, particularly in the context of multi-level herniations. Methods. A one-year prospective study was conducted of patients presenting with acute symptomatic LDH between 2017 and 2019. Baseline demographics, herniation characteristics, and MRI phenotypes were recorded prior to treatment, which consisted of gabapentin, acupuncture, and avoidance of inflammatory-modulating medications. MRIs were performed approximately every 3 months after initial evaluation to determine any differences between patients with single- and multi-level LDH. Results. Ninety patients were included, 17 demonstrated multi-level LDH. Body mass index was higher amongst patients with multi-level LDH ( P <0.001). Patients with multi-level LDH were more like to exhibit L3/L4 inferior endplate defects ( P =0.001), L4/L5 superior endplate defects ( P =0.012), and L4/L5 inferior endplate defects ( P =0.020) on MRI. No other differences in MRI phenotypes (e.g., Modic changes, osteophytes, etc.) existed between groups. Resorption rate and time to resolution did not differ between those with single- and multi-level LDH. Conclusions. Resorption rates were similar between single- and multi-level LDH at various time points throughout one prospective assessment, providing insights that disc healing may have unique programmed signatures. Compared to those with single-level LDH, patients with multi-level herniations were more likely to have a higher BMI, lesser initial axial and sagittal disc measurements, and endplate defects at specific lumbar levels. In addition, our findings support the use of conservative management in patients with LDH regardless of the number of levels affected.

Abstract:Objective: Few studies have concentrated on the sagittal alignment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH), especially the parameters of the pelvis, and controversy exists about whether pelvic morphology is involved in the pathogenesis of LDH. The present study analyzed the characteristics of the sagittal alignment in young Chinese LDH patients and explored the impact of pelvic morphology on the pathogenesis of LDH. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 100 young patients with LDH (69 men and 31 women, aged 18-35 years), and the clinical and imaging findings met the criteria for the diagnosis of LDH. The control group included 100 asymptomatic volunteers with matching age and gender. Coronal and sagittal parameters were measured on the anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of the whole spine, including lumbar lordosis (LL), pelvic incidence (PI), sacral slope (SS), pelvic tilt (PT), thoracic kyphosis (TK), and sagittal balance (SVA). The cases were classified into four types by the apex position of lumbar lordosis (type I, L-5 or the L4-5 intervertebral space; type II, bottom or middle of L-4; type III, upper part of L-4 or the intervertebral space between L-3 and L-4; type IV, L-3 or more high level), and divided into three groups by PI; namely, a low PI group (PI < 40 degrees), a medium PI group (40 degrees = PI < 50 degrees), and a high PI group (PI = 50 degrees). The sagittal parameters, especially PI, were compared between the LDH group and the control group. Correlations between the parameters in the LDH group were analyzed. Results: The PI value of the LDH group was not different from that of the control group (46.1 degrees +/- 10.0 degrees vs 47.2 degrees +/- 8.8 degrees, P > 0.05). The LDH group showed lower average LL, SS, and TK (P < 0.01), as well as higher PT and SVA compared with the control group (P < 0.01). The LL (34.4 degrees +/- 15.3 degrees vs 50.8 degrees +/- 10.2 degrees) and SVA (21.6 +/- 53.6 mm vs - 18.4 +/- 32.8 mm) showed a significant difference (P < 0.01); LL was correlated with PI, SS, PT, TK and SVA (P < 0.01); and SVA was also correlated with the parameters above (P < 0.01) except PI (P > 0.05), and the lordosis apex tended to be higher. The distributions of PI groups between the LDH group and the control group were not different. Pairwise correlations were found among LL, PI, SS, and PT. In addition, TK and SVA were correlated with LL, SS, and PT. Conclusions: There is no difference in PI between young Chinese patients with lumbar disc herniation and the normal population. Young LDH patients may present flat lumbar and thoracic curves, as well as lower sacral slope. The anteversion sagittal imbalance is regulated by both the spine and the pelvis.

Abstract:[Objective] The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemic status and relevant factors of lumbar disc herniation(LDH) and to provide objective evidence for its treatment and prevention.[Methods] Epidemiology method was used to investigate the incidence rate and relevant factors of LDH such as age,occupation,and the statistic and logical analysis was done to the incidence rate and relevant factors.[Results] The incidence rate of LDH of people in the investigation area was higher(7.62%),which was relevant to the age and occupation.People aged 25-55 was with the highest incidence rate,which was related to more labor activities,increasing working load and injury opportunities,and long-term labor under forced positions such as sitting and standing for a long time.Occupations such as driving,heavy physical labor,teaching were high risk ones of LDH epidemiology.[Conclusion] LDH is advancing widely,with increasing danger.Medical supervision shall be intensified to reduce the incidence rate of LDH.
