Abstract:Objectives: Recently, numerous studies have renewed attention to the hematologic profile in the early identification of diabetic inflammation and complications. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between hematologic indices abnormalities and oxidative stress among children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: This study included 70 children diagnosed with T1DM and 30 healthy control subjects. The children with T1DM were divided into 2 groups according to the duration of diabetes: children with newly diagnosed T1DM and children with established T1DM. Results: Erythrocyte count and platelet count were decreased significantly in children with established T1DM, whereas leukocyte count and neutrophil count were increased significantly in children with newly diagnosed T1DM compared with healthy control subjects. Moreover, hemoglobin and hematocrit values revealed a significant depletion in both T1DM groups; however, values of red blood cell distribution width, mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width were significantly elevated in both T1DM groups compared with healthy control subjects. Also, microalbuminuria levels showed a significant increase in children with established T1DM, whereas lipid peroxidation biomarker (malondialdehyde) and nitric oxide levels were elevated markedly in both T1DM groups compared with the healthy group. Conclusions: The data demonstrated that the hematologic profile showed noticeable alterations in children with T1DM, and the inflammation and oxidative stress markers were contributed to the hematologic abnormalities. The results revealed that some hematologic indices can be used in the early detection of children with T1DM at risk for diabetic complications.

Abstract:Background: 17% in the world with diabetes is from India. Chronic inflammation plays a central role in the development and progression of diabetes and in the pathogenesis of its complication. NLR should be used as a marker of diabetic control level ln addition to HbA1C ln type 2 diabetic subjects. RDW might be considered as an effective predictive index in the evaluation of diabetic nephropathy or diabetes associated complications. MPV is higher in those who have microvascular complications such as retinopathy or Microalbuminuria. Objective: To study the changes in various haematological parameters in type 2 diabetic mellitus patients. To assess Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, mean platelet volume (MPV), HbA1c cand RDW as a predictive inflammatory marker in type 2 diabetic mellitus. To correlate the haematologicalchanges in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients associated with diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy. Material and Method: It’s a case control study included 200 sample – 100 case (diabetic) and 100 control (non-diabetic). Results: 200 patients included in study 100 cases (diabetic) in which 57.8% (male) and 42.2% (female) has diabetes. Most of the age group between 55-65 yrs of age (38%) has diabetes NLR raised in diabetic group shows significant value (0.001). MPV raised in diabetic group and is significant (0.0001). PLR raise in diabetic group as compared to control group shows significance (0.0001) and HbA1c raised in patient with microvascular complication. RDW significantly raised in case than control group. Conclusion: In this study with non- diabetic group as control, haematological parameter in diabetic patients in outdoor patient department and during hospital stay analysed found that patient with microvascular complications and with raised HbA1C (>7.5%) has significantly raised NLR, PLR, MPV, RDW. Simple complete blood count can be used as an effective tool to monitor glycemic regulation in type 2 DM.

Abstract:Objective Leukocytosis is thought to be directly associated with the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and metabolic syndrome. Increased white blood cell (WBC) count is related to cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus; raised neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is associated with metabolic syndrome. There is little information, however, concerning a correlation between glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA 1c ) and NLR. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between NLR and blood glucose regulation. Methods This retrospective study was conducted in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, divided into two groups according to HbA 1c levels: group 1, HbA 1c levels ≤ 7%; group 2, HbA 1c levels > 7%. Venous WBC, neutrophil and lymphocyte counts were determined. Results Of 71 patients included, fasting serum glucose, neutrophil and WBC counts were significantly higher in group 2 compared with group 1. NLR had a positive correlation with HbA 1c . Conclusion There may be a significant relationship between NLR and blood glucose regulation. The authors propose that increased NLR may be associated with elevated HbA 1c in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract:Aims: This investigation examined the possibility of a relationship between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Methods: Adults with T2DM who were included in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2020 were the subjects of the current cross-sectional investigation. Low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (< 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ) or albuminuria (urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) ≥ 30 mg/g) in T2DM patients were the diagnostic criteria for DKD. Weighted multivariable logistic regression models and generalized additive models were used to investigate the independent relationships between NLR levels with DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR. Additionally, we examined the relationships between DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR with other inflammatory markers, such as the aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), system inflammation response index (SIRI), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR). Their diagnostic capabilities were evaluated and contrasted using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: 44.65% of the 7,153 participants who were recruited for this study were males. DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR were prevalent in 31.76%, 23.08%, and 14.55% of cases, respectively. Positive correlations were seen between the NLR with the prevalences of DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests revealed that the associations of NLR with DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR were not significantly different across populations. In addition, MLR, SII and SIRI showed positive associations with the prevalence of DKD. ROC analysis discovered that when compared to other inflammatory markers (MLR, PLR, SII, SIRI, and AISI), NLR may demonstrate more discriminatory power and accuracy in assessing the risk of DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR. Conclusion: Compared to other inflammatory markers (MLR, PLR, SII, SIRI, and AISI), NLR may serve as the more effective potential inflammatory marker for identifying the risk of DKD, albuminuria, and low-eGFR in US T2DM patients. T2DM patients with elevated levels of NLR, MLR, SII, and SIRI should be closely monitored for their potential risk to renal function.

Abstract:Background: The systemic immuno-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are widely used and have been shown to be predictive indicators of various diseases. Diabetic nephropathy (DN), retinopathy (DR), and peripheral neuropathy (DPN) are the most prominent and common microvascular complications, which have seriously negative impacts on patients, families, and society. Exploring the associations with these three indicators and diabetic microvascular complications are the main purpose. Methods: There were 1058 individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in this retrospective cross-sectional study. SII, NLR, and PLR were calculated. The diseases were diagnosed by endocrinologists. Logistic regression and subgroup analysis were applied to evaluate the association between SII, NLP, and PLR and diabetic microvascular complications. Results: SII, NLR, and PLR were significantly associated with the risk of DN [odds ratios (ORs): 1.52, 1.71, and 1.60, respectively] and DR [ORs: 1.57, 1.79, and 1.55, respectively] by multivariate logistic regression. When NLR ≥2.66, the OR was significantly higher for the risk of DPN (OR: 1.985, 95% confidence interval: 1.29–3.05). Subgroup analysis showed no significant positive associations across different demographics and comorbidities, including sex, age, hypertension, HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), and dyslipidemia. Conclusion: This study found a positive relationship between NLR and DN, DR, and DPN. In contrast, SII and PLR were found to be only associated with DN and DR. Therefore, for the diagnosis of diabetic microvascular complications, SII, NLR and PLR are highly valuable.

Abstract:Introduction: As a severe and specific neurovascular complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains the leading cause of vision loss and preventable blindness in adults aged 20 to 74. The pathogenesis of DR is not completely understood, however, studies indicate that chronic inflammation plays a significant role. Emerging evidence suggests that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) are novel potential inflammatory response markers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the NLR, PLR, MLR, and DR. Patients and Methods: 290 patients who had been diagnosed with T2DM participated in the study. Patients were categorized into three groups: 142 control subjects with T2DM, 124 subjects with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR), and 24 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Characteristics, laboratory data, as well as NLR, PLR and MLR levels of the study groups were compared. Results: In patients with DR, the median NLR, PLR, and MLR were significantly higher than in patients without DR (p = 0.012, p < 0.001, and p = 0.043, respectively). In the post hoc analysis, there was no correlation between the severity of retinopathy and the increase in NLR or PLR. Multiple logistic regression revealed that the PLR was an independent risk factor for DR (odds ratio [OR]: 1.020, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.010-1.029 p = 0.026). Based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, the cutoff value of PLR as an indicator for diagnosing DR was estimated to be 129.65, with a sensitivity and specificity of 53.4% and 76.1%, respectively, and an area under the curve of 0.668 (95% CI: 0.605-0.730, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that PLR may be an independent risk factor for evaluating DR in type 2 diabetes patients.

Abstract:Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a progressive disorder leading to the development of microangiopathies and macroangiopathies. Numerous cytokines and chemokines are involved in the pathogenesis of T1D complications. The study aimed to assess the presence of complications in patients with long-standing T1D and its relationship with serum biomarker concentrations. We examined 52 T1D subjects, with a disease duration ≥4 years and 39 healthy controls. The group of T1D patients was further divided into subgroups based on the duration of the disease (<7 years and ≥7 years) and the metabolic control assessed by the HbAlc level (<8% and ≥8%). We used Luminex Technology to assess a wide range of biomarker concentrations. A 24 h urine test was done to evaluate the rate of albuminuria. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was conducted to detect early retinopathic changes. Subclinical atherosclerosis was assessed by measuring the carotid intima–media thickness (IMT). T1D patients showed remarkably higher concentrations of EGF, eotaxin/CCL11, MDC/CCL22, sCD40L, TGF-α, and TNF-α. Moreover, we reported statistically significant correlations between cytokines and IMT. Biomarker concentrations depend on numerous factors such as disease duration, metabolic control, and the presence of complications. Although the majority of pediatric T1D patients do not present signs of overt complications, it is indispensable to conduct the screening for angiopathies already in childhood, as its early recognition may attenuate the further progression of complications.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a leading risk factor for the development and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, an accurate and convenient marker for early detection and appropriate management of CKD in individuals with T2DM is limited. Recent studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and CKD. Nonetheless, the predictive value of NLR for renal damage in type 2 diabetic patients remains understudied. AIM To investigate the relationship between NLR and renal function in T2DM patients. METHODS This study included 1040 adults aged 65 or older with T2DM from Shanghai's Community Health Service Center. The total number of neutrophils and lymphocytes was detected, and NLR levels were calculated. CKD was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate ≤ 60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Participants were divided into four groups based on NLR levels. The clinical data and biochemical characteristics were compared among groups. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between NLR levels and CKD. RESULTS Significant differences were found in terms of sex, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol among patients with T2DM in different NLR groups (P < 0.0007). T2DM patients in the highest NLR quartile had a higher prevalence of CKD (P for trend = 0.0011). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that a high NLR was an independent risk factor for CKD in T2DM patients even after adjustment for important clinical and pathological parameters (P = 0.0001, odds ratio = 1.41, 95% confidence intervals: 1.18-1.68). CONCLUSION An elevated NLR in patients with T2DM is associated with higher prevalence of CKD, suggesting that it could be a marker for the detection and evaluation of diabetic kidney disease.

Abstract:AimsOur study is aimed to investigate the relationship between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients.MethodsWe retrospect the consecutive medical files of 160 T2DM patients and recorded their clinical information and laboratory findings. Patients were divided into CMD group (n=87) and non-CMD group (n=73). We compared the NLR values of the two groups. Meanwhile we also observed the prevalence of CMD at different NLR levels. Then, logistic regression and ROC analysis were performed.ResultsNLR value of CMD group was significantly lower than non-CMD group (2.01±0.74 vs 2.53±0.69, P<0.001). Prevalence of CMD in low (NLR≤1.53, n=30), medium (1.532.20, n=77) group were 90%, 61.1%, and 39.2% respectively. The prevalence of CMD significantly increased as NLR level decreased. After adjusting potential related factors, NLR was still significantly correlated with CMD (OR=0.295, 95%CI:0.162-0.539, P<0.001). The area under ROC curve (AUC) was 0.707 (95%CI:0.627-0.786, P<0.001).ConclusionsOur results showed that NLR is associated with CMD in T2DM patients, and the prevalence of CMD may increase as NLR level decrease.

Abstract:AIM: To investigate systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes at different stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS: This retrospective study included 141 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM): 45 without diabetic retinopathy (NDR), 47 with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR), and 49 with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Complete blood counts were obtained, and NLR, PLR, and SII were calculated. The study analysed the ability of inflammatory markers to predict DR using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The relationships between DR stages and SII, PLR, and NLP were assessed using multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: The average NLR, PLR, and SII were higher in the PDR group than in the NPDR group (P=0.011, 0.043, 0.009, respectively); higher in the NPDR group than in the NDR group (P<0.001 for all); and higher in the PDR group than in the NDR group (P<0.001 for all). In the ROC curve analysis, the NLR, PLR, and SII were significant predictors of DR (P<0.001 for all). The highest area under the curve (AUC) was for the PLR (0.929 for PLR, 0.925 for SII, and 0.821 for NLR). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that NLR, PLR, and SII were statistically significantly positive and independent predictors for the DR stages in patients with DM [odds ratio (OR)=1.122, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.200–2.043, P<0.05; OR=0.038, 95%CI: 0.018–0.058, P<0.05; OR=0.007, 95%CI: 0.001–0.01, P<0.05, respectively). CONCLUSION: The NLR, PLR, and SII may be used as predictors of DR.

Abstract:Increased cardiovascular risk has been associated with certain platelet morphological parameters, and several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been reported to be linked. Still, little is known about their role among children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). So, we aimed to investigate platelet parameters and lipid profile changes in relation to rs7961894 SNP in children with T1DM. Eighty children with T1DM and eighty apparently healthy controls participated in this cross-sectional study. Platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), plateletcrit (PCT), HbA1c, triglycerides, total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured, and atherogenic indices were calculated. Using a real-time polymerase chain allelic discrimination technique, rs7961894 SNP was genotyped. Children with T1DM had significantly higher MPV, PDW, TC, and LDL-C compared to controls. 25% of patients had rs7961894 CT genotype with significantly higher MPV, PDW, PCT, LDL-C, triglycerides, Castelli's risk index II (CRI II), and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) compared to CC genotyped patients. MPV correlated significantly with CRI II and AIP, PDW with CRI II, while PCT correlated substantially with HbA1c, LDL-C, CRI II, and AIP. rs7961894 CT genotype was a significant dependent predictor of the changes in MPV, PDW, and PCT in multivariate regression analysis.Conclusion: In children with T1DM, rs7961894 CT genotype is significantly linked to MPV, PDW, and PCT changes, which showed a substantial relationship to CRI II and AIP, highlighting the importance of monitoring these patients to identify potential cardiovascular risks early. Abstract:Background. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a commonly used clinical marker to monitor the control of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients (T2DM). However, it is unable to identify the ongoing inflammatory changes in the body. These factors could be easily identified and monitored by the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Therefore, this study is aimed at investigating the relationship between NLR and glycemic control in T2DM. Method. A comprehensive search of eligible studies was performed in various databases published until July 2021. A random effect model was used to estimate the standardized mean difference (SMD). A metaregression, subgroup, and sensitivity analysis were conducted to search for potential sources of heterogeneity. Result. A total of 13 studies were included in this study. Accordingly, the SMD of the NLR values between the poor and good glycemic control groups was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.46-1.12). Our study also showed that high NLR was significantly associated with poor glycemic control in T2DM patients ( OR = 1.50 , 95% CI: 1.30-1.93). Conclusion. The results of this study suggest an association between high NLR values and an elevated HbA1C in T2DM patients. Therefore, NLR should be considered a marker of glycemic control in addition to HbA1c in T2DM patients.

Abstract:<h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background</h3><p>Inflammation is implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetes and its complications in adults. Little is known about the relative contribution of inflammation in common types of diabetes in youth: Type 1 diabetes (T1D), Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cystic fibrosis‐related diabetes (CFRD). This study investigates inflammatory markers by diabetes type and complication status, and assesses indicators of inflammation and complications.</p><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>A cross‐sectional study of 134 T1D, 32 T2D, 32 CFRD and 48 subjects without diabetes (including 11 with CF and normal glucose tolerance) was undertaken. Inflammation was assessed by sE‐selectin by ELISA, hsCRP by turbidometry, WCC and ESR. Nephropathy was defined by albuminuria, autonomic neuropathy by heart rate variability, and peripheral neuropathy by vibration and thermal threshold testing and retinopathy by seven‐field stereoscopic fundus photography. Descriptive statistics, parametric and non‐parametric ANOVA and regression analyses were performed, with significance at p<0.05.</p><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>Of 198 diabetic participants; 49% female, mean (SD) age, median diabetes duration and median HbA1c were 16(2.5) and 6(3–9) years and 8.1(6.9–9.3)%, respectively. All inflammatory markers were lower in T1D than in other diabetes groups (p<0.05) but higher than in non‐diabetic controls. T2D (n=32) and CFRD (n=32) subjects had comparable elevated levels of inflammation. BMI was a strong independent explanatory variable of inflammation. In multivariate analysis, hsCRP and ESR were associated with complications in addition to HbA1c, BMI and diastolic BP.</p><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>Circulating inflammatory markers are elevated in adolescents with diabetes, being higher and comparable in T2D and CFRD than in T1D. Inflammation is independently associated with diabetes complications, consistent with inflammation driving vascular pathology in diabetes.</p><p>This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Abstract Background and Aims Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is widely linked to chronic inflammation, with a higher incidence in the advanced stages of the disease. Recognition of systemic inflammation may be useful for prompt diagnosis and management of various CKD related disorders and may open the door towards the development and application of anti-inflammatory strategy treatments. This case-control and cross-sectional study investigates the association of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), total iron binding capacity (TIBC) and serum albumin with high serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Method NLR and PLR were measured in 53 patients (median age: 12.9 years) and 25 healthy controls, stratified by age and sex. Lipid and iron profile, glucose tolerance parameters, serum albumin, uric acid and IL-6 were measured in the patient group. Results Compared to controls, NLR and PLR were higher in patients (p = 0.004 and p = 0.032 respectively), and particularly in those with CKD on dialysis (CKD 5D) (17 patients) (p<0.001 and p = 0.001). LnIL-6 was correlated to NLR (rs = 0.344, p = 0.014), albumin (rs = -0.350, p = 0.011) and TIBC (rs = -0.345, p = 0.012) after adjustment for CKD stage, while the correlation between lnIL-6 and PLR was not significant (rs = 0.206, p = 0.151). Patients with NLR ≥1.7, TIBC ≤300 μg/dl and albumin ≤3.8 g/dl presented a higher risk for increased IL-6 (15 patients) regardless CKD stage (OR 5.499, 95% CI 1.272-22.017, p = 0.016, OR 9.818, 95% CI 2.311-41.706, p = 0.002 and OR 7.543, 95% CI 1.891-30.083, p = 0.004). NLR ≥1.7 and TIBC≤ 300 μg/dl predicted high IL-6 with the highest sensitivity (73.3%), while NLR ≥1.7, TIBC≤ 300 μg/dl and serum albumin ≤ 3.8 g/dl with the highest specificity (97.4%). Conclusion Both NLR and PLR increase in pediatric CKD, especially in CKD 5D. NLR rather than PLR may serve as diagnostic marker of systemic inflammation in pediatric CKD, along with TIBC and serum albumin.

Abstract:To study the urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and beta-2-microglobulin (β2M) levels as markers of tubular damage in children with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). Forty T1DM children and 40 age-matched controls were enrolled. Subjects with coexisting kidney disorder, intake of oral glucose lowering drugs and syndromic diabetes mellitus were excluded. Fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA 1c ), kidney function, urinary albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR), NGAL and β2M were measured and compared in cases and controls. The median (IQR) age of cases and controls was 10.6 (8, 14.2) and 10.7 (8.4, 13.7) years, respectively. Cases had disease duration of 4 (3, 6.8) years and HbA 1c 10.9 (9, 13.1) %. Microalbuminuria was seen in 14 (35 %). Median (IQR) levels of UACR were higher in cases than controls [19.38 (10.27, 35.26) and 6.49 (3.10, 11.65) μg/mg; p<0.001], similarly NGAL/creatinine [352.21 (191.49, 572.45) and 190.54 (125.91, 322.83) ng/mg; p=0.006], unlike β2M/creatinine [1.7 (0.43, 6.02) and 2.12 (1.05, 4.47) μg/mg; p=0.637]. Children with higher HbA 1c (≥10 %) had higher urinary ACR and tubular biomarkers than HbA 1c 0.05). Urinary ACR showed positive correlation with NGAL/creatinine ( r =0.38, p=0.019) and β2M/creatinine ( r =0.42, p=0.009). Urinary biomarkers NGAL and β2M were elevated in the presence of normal urinary microalbumin levels suggestive of early tubular damage in T1DM.

Abstract:Objectives: Microangiopathy is implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic vascular complications. Nail fold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) is an easy non-invasive tool of microvasculature assessment. This study compares the NVC changes in adolescents with Type1 diabetes (T1D) to healthy controls and correlates them to diabetic vascular complications. Methods: Hundred thirty-five adolescents with T1D (disease duration 5 years) were compared to 135 matched controls. Diabetes duration, insulin therapy, fundus, and Toronto clinical scoring system (TCSS) were assessed. Fasting lipids, fraction-C of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), urinary albumin creatinine ratio (UACR), nerve conduction velocity, and NVC were performed. Results: NVC changes were found in 120 adolescents with T1D (88.8%). These changes were significantly higher in adolescents with T1D than controls (p < .001). Significant positive relation was found between NVC changes and TCSS (p = .006), diabetes duration (p = .001), HbA1C (0.008), cholesterol (p = .011), LDL (0.016), UACR (p < .001), and nerve conduction velocity (p < .001). Multivariate logistic regression study revealed that diabetic nephropathy and neuropathy were independently associated with NVC changes (p < .001 and p = .007, respectively). Conclusion: Adolescents with T1D have significantly higher NVC changes than controls. These changes were more evident in those having vascular complications than those without. Thus, NVC can be a potential non-invasive tool for early assessment and follow-up of the microvasculature among adolescents with T1D.
