Abstract:Abstract The specific role of ON and OFF retinal information channels in the generation of the horizontal optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) of the frog was studied. Coil recordings of monocular eye and head OKN were obtained before and after intravitreal injection of two drugs that block either ON or OFF channels. The intravitreal injection of 2-amino-4-phosphonobutyrate (APB), a glutamate analog that selectively blocks the ON retinal channel, strongly reduced or even cancelled the monocular OKN of the head and of the eye. The intravitreal injection of another glutamate analog, the cis-2, 3-piperidine dicarboxylic acid (PDA) that especially blocks the OFF retinal channel, did not affect the gain velocity of the slow phase of both the horizontal monocular head and eye OKN, for low stimulus velocities. Our results suggest that the retinal ON information channel, but not the OFF channel, is involved in the generation of the slow phase of the OKN of the frog, at least at low drum velocities.
Citrobacter freundii causing Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) Rot in Tangshan, China

Abstract:Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is an important economic crop and its rhizome can be used as seasoning agent and traditional medicine in China. During July 2018 and 2019, decay symptoms occurred in the ginger planting area of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, with incidence rates of 15%～20%. The pathogen infected the rhizomes and leaves. The symptoms included leaves chlorosis and gradually wilting, even the whole plant wilted, the rhizome became soft and presented light brown maceration. In serious cases, the interior of rhizome was completely eroded, gray-white juice overflowing the epidermis, and with foul smell. The rhizome surfaces of ginger plants were disinfected with 1% NaOCl, and colonies were isolated and purified on nutrient agar (NA) solid medium by streaking. Eight isolates were obtained from 15 diseased tissue samples. Further morphological, physiological and biochemical identification of the pure cultured bacteria were carried out. Three strains of bacteria were picked for further analysis. All of the three strains were gram-negative, short rod-shaped，nonmotile bacillus. Colonies were round and milky yellow, smooth raised, and moist after incubation at 28°C for 24h on NA. Physiological and biochemical test results showed that strains were facultatively anaerobic, negative for indole, methyl red, the Voges-Prauskauer test (V-P) and urease; positive for glucose, sucrose, sorbitol, inositol, mannitol, citrate utilization and hydrogen sulfide production; gelatin liquefaction. A typical hypersensitive reaction was induced on 12-week-old tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana) leaves, which were inoculated by injecting suspensions of the isolated strain (108 CFU/mL) at 25 ℃ after 24h. These characteristics were consistent with Citrobacter freundii (Werkman and Gillen 1932). To further assess the identity of the strains, the genomic DNA was extracted from one bacterium（JXJ4）. The partial 16S rRNA region (Lane 1991) and specific rpoB and gyrB genes (Mollet et al. 1997, Brady et al. 2013) were amplified and sequenced with primers 27F/1492R, CM7/CM31b and UP1f/UP2r, respectively. The obtained 16S, rpoB and gyrB sequences (GenBank accession MN148645, MN158728 and MW199734) of the isolate showed 99.93%, 99.51% and 99.82% identity to the corresponding sequences of C. freundii in GenBank (CP024679.1, CP024677.1 and KM509081.1). Maximum likelihood analysis was performed, and the phylogenetic tree clustered with C. freundii (MEGAX, Bootstrap n=1000). The pathogenicity of the isolates was tested on ginger plants and rhizomes tissue. The bacterial suspensions (108 CFU/mL) of three isolates were injected into the basal stem and rhizomes center of 9 healthy ginger seedlings respectively, and Control groups were treated with sterile water. The inoculated plants were kept in a moist chamber (28°C, 16-h light and 8-h dark period) and ginger rhizomes were placed in the incubator (30°C, 16-h light and 8-h dark period). Seven days after inoculation, the ginger tubers showed symptoms of decay, and 20 to 25 days later, the ginger plant leaves browned and died. The pathogenicity test was repeated 4 times and all controls were healthy. Pathogens were reisolated from symptomatic plants and rhizomes and identified as C. freundii based on the morphological, biochemical and molecular methods described previously, fulfilling Koch's hypothesis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of ginger rot caused by C. freundii in China.
First Report of Wilt Disease of Ginger Caused by Achromobacter xylosoxidans in China

Abstract:Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is an important commercial crop that has been widely cultivated in China for more than 2500 years. One variety, Tongling white ginger, has been grown in the Yi'an District of Tongling city, Anhui province (30°45 N, 117°43 E), China. In August 2022, symptoms of yellowing and wilting were observed on ginger plants, with a disease incidence rate exceeding 20% in the field. The stem base of the diseased plants became soft, brown and water-soaked. Additionally, the rhizomes displayed symptoms of browning and water-soaked rot, resembling those caused by Ralstonia solanacearum and Enterobacter cloacae (Yu et al. 2003; Nishijima et al. 2004; Liu et al. 2021). Consequently, ginger bacterial wilt disease may potentially emerge from a combination of infections by diverse pathogenic bacteria. To identify novel pathogens causing the wilt disease, stem tissues of the diseased plants from different locations were sterilized with 1% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for 10 min, followed by at least three time rinses with sterile water. The sterilized samples were then ground with 0.9% saline solution and left at room temperature for 30 min. A 20 μL aliquot of the suspension was serially diluted and cultured on Luria-Bertani (LB) medium at 28°C. A total of 217 isolates was picked and purified for taxonomic identification by 16S rRNA gene analyses with the primer 27F/1492R (Weisburg et al. 1991). Among these isolates, 23 single colony isolates were identified as A. xylosoxidans through NCBI BLASTn analyses. Furthermore, three single isolates from different locations were randomly selected for further experiments. The growing colonies appeared opaque white and round. Microscopic evaluation revealed that cells were rod-shaped with an average length of 1.95 µm and average width of 0.46 µm. The three isolates shared identical 16S rRNA sequences, displayed 99.72% identity with the sequence from A. xylosoxidans strain SeqID2 (GenBank accession NO. MH266081.1). The glutamate synthase (gltB), GTP-binding membrane protein (lepA), NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit L (nuoL), RNA polymerase beta-subunit (rpoB), and the enolase (eno) genes of the three isolates were amplified by PCR using primer pairs gltB-F/gltB-R, lepA-F/lepA-R, nuoL-F/nuoL-R, rpoB-F/rpoB-R and eno-F/eno-R, respectively (Spilker et al. 2012; Vandamme et al. 2016). The gene sequences of 16S rRNA (OQ711945, OQ740153 and OR230037), gltB (OR242732, OQ737692 and OR262112), lepA (OR233727, OQ737693 and OR262113), nuoL (OR233726, OQ737694 and OR262114), ropB (OR233725, OQ737695 and OR262115) and eno (OR242733, OQ737696 and OR262116) for the isolates ZOR02, ZOR05 and ZOR12 were deposited in GenBank database. The gltB, lepA, nuoL, rpoB and eno sequences of the isolates ZOR02, ZOR05 and ZOR12 showed 98.66-99.16%, 98.9-100%, 96.28%-97.34%, 98.47-99.44% and 99.27-99.82% similarity to A. xylosoxidans strain AX27, respectively. Phylogenetic trees were constructed based on the 16S rRNA and gltB-lepA-nuoL-rpoB-eno multilocus using the Neighbor-Joining (NJ) method with 1000 bootstrap replicates in MEGA11.0 software (Álvarez et al. 2018). For pathogenicity tests, bacterial suspensions were initially prepared in sterile water at a final concentration of 108 CFU mL-1. Subsequently, 10 μL of bacterial suspensions was injected into the stem base of two-month-old ginger plants, while sterile water was used as a control (Wang et al. 2022). These plants were then incubated at 28°C and 70% relative humidity. There were three replicates for each treatment, and each replicate contained five plants. After six days of inoculation, the ginger plants injected with bacterial suspensions alone exhibited severe wilting symptoms similar to those observed in the field. However, water-soaked symptoms were not observed on rhizome tissues from the pathogen-infected plants. Bacterial pathogens were re-isolated from the diseased plants and identified using the morphological and molecular methods to meet Koch's hypothetical tests. To our knowledge, this is the first report of A. xylosoxidans causing wilt disease of ginger in China. In 2022, the average yield loss due to wilt disease in the Yi'an District of Tongling exceeded 20%, posing a major threat to local ginger cultivation. Effective disease management strategies are needed to develop for the control and prevention of the disease.

In October 2018, leaf chlorosis symptoms were observed on ginger plants grown in the field in Guilin (24°36′N; 110°36′E), Guangxi Province. The rhizomes of the symptomatic plants were soft and rotted, which is different from dry rot caused by Fusarium (Li et al. 2014a). Eventually, whole plants wilted, but wilting occurred more slowly than is typical for Pythium infection (Li et al. 2014b; Stirling et al. 2009). To determine the causal agent of this disease, five infected root tissues from different individuals were sterilized in 2% sodium hypochlorite solution for 1 min and then thoroughly washed three times with sterile distilled water, followed by culturing on 10% V8 juice agar at 25°C. Three fungal isolates were obtained. All the fungal isolates on the plate had the same morphological phenotype and developed orange to reddish perithecia in culture after 10 days of growth. The perithecia were subglobose and measured 400 to 520 × 440 to 560 µm (average 425.5 × 481.8 µm) (n = 21). A large number of ascospores were released from the pressed perithecia. Ascospores were hyaline and falcate with septum and were 17.5 to 50.3 × 4.4 to 8.6 µm (average 33.6 × 6.2 µm) (n = 127). DNA was extracted from the fungal isolates; PCR amplicons of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA region (primer pair ITS1/ITS4), partial β-tubulin gene (TUB, T1/Bt2b) (Glass and Donaldson 1995; O'Donnell and Cigelnik 1997), and partial histone 3 gene (HIS, CYLH3F/CYLH3R) (Crous et al. 2004) were sequenced, and BLAST was used to identify the cultured fungi. The sequence of the ITS and TUB regions (GenBank accession nos. MK564748 and MK580968) exhibited 100% (498/498 and 599/599 bp) identity to sequences corresponding to Calonectria ilicicola accessions MF785081.1 and GU073284.1. In addition, the HIS sequence (GenBank MK580969) matched 100% (405/405 bp) with that of C. ilicicola accessions JQ973141.1, GQ267256.1, AY725693.1, and AY725676.1. These morphological and molecular characters allowed identification of the pathogen as C. ilicicola. To fulfill Koch's postulates, 3-month-old ginger plants were inoculated with a suspension of 10 ml of perithecia (100 perithecia/ml) by the root irrigation method (Fei et al. 2018). Control plants were treated with the same volume of sterile water. All ginger plants were incubated at 25°C. At 30 days postinoculation, the inoculated plants exhibited severe wilt and rhizome rot, whereas the control plants appeared healthy. The fungus was reisolated from infected plants. It has been reported that this fungus is able to infect Medicago sativa, blueberry, and peanut in China (Fei et al. 2018; Gai et al. 2012; Pei et al. 2015). Rhizopus oryzae causes the leaf rot disease of Epimedium sagittatum in Guizhou, China

Abstract:Epimedium sagittatum is a collective term for herbaceous plants belonging to the family Berberidaceae. Their dried leaves and stems have significant therapeutic effects on tumor inhibition, hypertension control, and coronary heart disease (Ke et al. 2023; Zhao et al. 2019). In 2021 and 2022, plants with similar leaf rot symptoms ranging from 30% to 55% was observed on E. sagittatum in Congjiang County, Guizhou province. The initial symptoms of the disease manifest locally on the leaf, with yellowing on the surface edge of the affected tissue, browning in the middle part, and brown-white discoloration in the innermost part (Supplementary Figure S1B). As the disease progresses, the entire infected leaf gradually softens, while the veins remain intact (Supplementary Figure S1C). Ultimately, the leaf withers and dehisces. The nine samples with typical symptoms were collected from Congjiang County, Guizhou province (26.598°N, 106.707°E). Twenty-seven fungi were isolated, including ten isolates of Rhizopus and seventeen isolates of seven other genera. On isolate YYH-CJ-17 many sporangia were formed and turned to a brown-gray to black color on potato dextrose agar medium (PDA) after culturing 5 days under dark at 25 ℃ (Supplementary Figure S2A and S2B). The branches of mycelium were finger-shaped or root-shaped. The sporangium was spherical or nearly spherical, 60-250 µm in diameter, and sporangiospores were elliptical or spherical and 4-8 µm in diameter. The obtained 547 bp ITS fragment (accession OR225970) and 1231 bp EF-1α region (accession OR242258) from isolate YYH-CJ-17 were compared with NR database using the BLAST tool provided by NCBI, which revealed more than 99.5% identity (query cover more than 98%) with the sequences of ITS (accessions MF522822.1) and EF-1α (accession AB281541.1) of Rhizopus oryzae Went & H.C. Prinsen Geerlings (Gao et al. 2022; Zhang et al. 2022). The phylogenetic tree constructed with the ITS and EF-1α gene sequences demonstrates that strain YYH-CJ-17 clusters with R. oryzae in the same branch and the bootstrap value was greater than 99% (Supplementary Figure S3). Based on the morphological characteristics and ITS and EF-1a sequences, the isolate YYH-CJ-17 is identified as R. oryzae. Pathogenicity tests were performed on detached healthy leaves and living plants of E. sagittatum. Healthy leaves of E. sagittatum were subjected to inoculation with isolate YYH-CJ-17 with 5 × 105 CFU mL-1 concentration in sterile culture dishes. The progression of the disease was marked by the gradual softening of the infected leaves and the expansion of the lesions, which ultimately produced black-brown sporangium (Supplementary Figure S4A). Furthermore, the E. sagittatum living plants were sprayed with 5 × 105 CFU mL-1 conidial suspension of isolate YYH-CJ-17, with ddH2O as a negative control, and then were cultivated at 25℃ and 90% humidity for 21 days in the greenhouse. This assay found that the E. sagittatum leaves treated with isolate YYH-CJ-17 exhibited the same symptoms observed on plants in fields (Supplementary Figure S4B). The fungus re-isolated from the inoculated leaves were identified as R. oryzae by ITS sequencing and were blasted with NR database, which highest matched with the sequence of ITS (accessions MF522822.1) mentioned above, thus fulfilling Koch's postulates. R. oryzae has been identified as a causative agent of a diverse array of host diseases, including leaf mildew of tobacco, fruit rot of yellow oleander and pears, and soft rot of bananas (Farooq et al. 2017; Khokhar et al. 2019; Kwon et al. 2012; Pan et al. 2021). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of leaf rot on E. sagittatum caused by R. oryzae in China, which will provide clear prevention and management target for the leaf rot disease of E. sagittatum.
Pythium Myriotylum is Recovered Most Frequently from Pythium Soft-Rot Infected Ginger Rhizomes in China.

Abstract:Pythium soft rot is a major soilborne disease of crops such as ginger (Zingiber officinale). Our objective was to identify which Pythium species were associated with Pythium soft rot of ginger in China, where approximately 20% of global ginger production is located. Oomycetes infecting ginger rhizomes from seven provinces were investigated using two molecular markers, the internal transcribed spacer, and cytochrome c oxidase subunit II (CoxII). In total, 81 isolates were recovered; approximately 95% of the isolates were identified as Pythium myriotylum, and the other isolates were identified as either P. aphanidermatum or P. graminicola. Notably, the P. myriotylum isolates from China did not contain the single nucleotide polymorphism in the CoxII sequence found previously in the P. myriotylum isolates infecting ginger in Australia. A subset of 36 isolates was analyzed repeatedly by temperature-dependent growth, severity of disease on ginger plants, and aggressiveness of colonization on ginger rhizome sticks. In the pathogenicity assays, 32 of 36 isolates were able to significantly infect and cause severe disease symptoms on the ginger plants. A range of temperature-dependent growth, disease severity, and aggressiveness in colonization was found, with a significant moderate positive correlation between growth and aggressiveness of colonization of the ginger sticks. This study identified P. myriotylum as the major oomycete pathogen in China from infected ginger rhizomes and suggested that P. myriotylum should be a key target to control soft rot of ginger disease.

Abstract:A G-parity transformation is performed on the latest version of the Bonn N-N meson-exchange potential to derive the elastic part of the N-N-bar interaction. No additional modification of the intermediate- and short-range domain is introduced. A phenomenological complex potential of Gaussian form is added to account for N-N-bar annihilation. A good description of low- and intermediate-energy N-N-bar data is achieved. The relevance of isobar degrees of freedom in the elastic N-N-bar interaction is discussed.
First Report of Root Rot Caused by Pythium myriotylum on Sesame in China

Abstract:Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is a very important oilseed crop and cultivated on 11.7 million hectares, producing 6.02 million tons of seeds with an average seed yield of 512 kg ha-1 in the world (Yadav et al. 2022). In June of 2021, diseased roots were observed on sesame in the villages of Mada and Hanba, Xiangcheng city (114.88°N, 33.13°E), Henan province, China. The diseased plants appeared stunted and wilted at the seedling stage. Approximately 7.1% to 17.7% of plants were affected in two fields, 0.6 ha in total, and disease severity in each affected plant ranged from 50% to 80%. Twenty-four disease plants were collected to confirm the pathogen. The diseased roots were cut into small fragments (2 to 5 mm long), surface sterilized with 75% ethanol (for 1 min), and 10% sodium hypochlorite (for 1 min) and then rinsed in sterilized water three times (1 min each rinse). The fragments were blotted dry and transferred to a potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium (potato 200 g/L, glucose 20 g/L, agar 18 g/L) amended with streptomycin (50 μg/mL). After incubation at 28°C for 24 h, white mycelium grew out from plant fragments. Then, a total of seven morphologically similar strains were transferred onto fresh V8 agar by hyphal tip transfer (Rollins 2003). By light microscope observations, the sporangia were filamentous or digitated, and undifferentiated or inflated lobulate. The oospores were mostly aplerotic, globose or subglobose in shape, and 20.4 to 42.6 μm in diameter (n = 90, n: Total number of oospores measured). Furthermore, antheridia were bulbous-like or clavate-like and were observed attached to the surface of the oospores. The zoospores were abundant and ranged from 8.5 to 14.2 μm in diameter. The morphology characteristics of all strains were consistent with those of Pythium myriotylum (Watanabe et al. 2007). Genomic DNA was extracted from the representative strain 20210628 using the CTAB method (Wangsomboondee et al. 2002). The complete internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene (COI, COX1) can be valid and useful barcodes for accurate identification of many oomycetes (Robideau et al. 2011). The ITS and COI were amplified with the primers ITS1/ITS4 (Riit et al. 2016) and primers OomCox-Levup/OomCox-Levlo (Robideau et al. 2011), respectively. The nucleotide sequences obtained were deposited in the GenBank database under the accession numbers OM230138.2 (ITS) and ON500503.1 (COI). GenBank BLAST search identified the sequences as P. myriotylum ITS and COI sequences (e.g., HQ237488.1 and MK510848.1, respectively) with 100% coverage and 100% identity. To evaluate the pathogenicity, sesame seeds (cultivar: Jinzhi No.3) were planted in 12-cm-diameter plastic pots containing a mixture of sterilized soil, vermiculite and peat mossat a ratio of 3:1:1. Oospores were collected following the procedure of Raftoyannis et al. (2006) with minor modifications. Three-leaf stage sesame roots were soaked with 5 mL of oospore suspension at 1 × 106/mL of the 20210628 strain, and the control plants were inoculated with sterilized water. All plants were maintained in a greenhouse (28±2°C, > 80% R. H.). The experiment was repeated twice with three replications. The plants inoculated with P. myriotylum showed the water soak symptom on the stem base 7 days after inoculation, while control plants were symptomless. Three weeks after inoculation, the plants showed root tissue necrosis, root rot, and dwarfing symptoms that were similar to those observed on sesame plants in the field, while control plants remained healthy. P. myriotylum was re-isolated from the inoculated plants and the morphology was the same as the original strain 20210628. These results suggest that P. myriotylum is the causal agent of sesame root rot. Previous studies have revealed that P. myriotylum can cause root rot in peanuts (Yu et al. 2019), chili pepper (Hyder et al. 2018), green bean (Serrano et al. 2008) and aerial blight of tomato (Roberts et al. 1999). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of P. myriotylum causing root rot on sesame. This pathogen can infect plant roots and develop rapidly if no effective control measures are implemented. Once the disease breaks out in a large area, the yield of sesame will be seriously threatened. The results provide important implications for the prevention and management of this disease.
First report of Botryosphaeria dothidea as the causal agent of a new fruit rot disease of pepper in China

Abstract:Pepper is an important and widely cultivated economic vegetable in the world (Yin et al., 2021). In June 2021, approximately 25% to 33.3% of the pepper plants had rot disease symptoms in Zhuanghang Comprehensive Experimental Base (30.894829 °N, 121.391374 °E), Fengxian district, Shanghai city, China. Water-soaked spots appeared on fruits that increased in size and leading to smelly fruit decay. To isolate the pathogen, three pepper samples with severe symptoms were collected. The samples were surface disinfected with 70% ethanol for 30 sec, 10% chlorine bleach for 10 min, rinsing with sterile water for three times and the rot tissues were cut and dried on sterile filter paper. The dried paper was later placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium and incubated at 28°C (Tang et al., 2021). After 2-3 days, four types of colonies with different colony appearances were observed, in which only one can induce fruit rot phenotype (data not shown). Four isolates were cultured for molecular identification in each type. ITS1/ITS4, T1/βt-2b and EF1-526F/EF1-1567R primers were used to amplify the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), the beta-tubulin (TUB2) and the translation elongation factor I alpha (EF1-α) genes, respectively (Chen et al., 2018) and corresponding sequences from the isolates were analyzed with BLAST. Sequences of the isolate which can induce pepper decay were submitted to GenBank under the accession numbers of OM663701 (ITS), OM720127 (TUB2) and OM720128 (EF1-α). The results showed that the pathogen had 99% sequence homology to most strains of Botryosphaeria dothidea (B. dothidea) and displayed the highest sequence similarity to strain LBSX-1 (ITS: KF55123), strain JGT01 (TUB2: MW202404) and isolate CZA (EF1-α: MN025271). Based on molecular characterization, the isolate was identified as B. dothidea isolate SH01. A phylogenetic tree was constructed using Maximum Parsimony (MP) methods by MEGA7, and showed that SH01 was closely related to isolate CMW9075. To confirm the pathogenicity, five healthy pepper fruits were surface sterilized, 500μl of conidial suspension (1×103 conidia/ml) were injected into pepper (sterilized distilled water as control). Six days post inoculation (dpi), fruit rot symptoms appeared and the pepper decayed at 12 dpi. Four days post inoculation with mycelium plugs (from a 4-day-old culture on PDA, PDA plugs as control), hyphae were observed in the inoculation site and B. dothidea was re-isolated from the symptomatic areas, thus fulfilling Koch's postulates (Back et al., 2021, Chen et al., 2020). The pepper rotted severely at 7 dpi. The colonies of SH01 were pale to white and gradually turned into gray in 4-6 days. Conidia of the pathogen were unicellular, aseptate, hyaline and fusiform to fusoid, with dimensions of 19.7-23.5 μm × 3.8-5.2 μm (average = 21.9 μm × 4.8 μm, n = 50). Hyphae were transparent, branched and composed of multiple cells. The characteristic was consistent with the descriptions of B. dothidea (Vasic et al., 2013). B. dothidea belongs to Botryosphaeriaceae, causing widespread diseases in many plant species, commonly associated with cankers and dieback of woody plants and economic crops, such as plumcot trees (Back et al., 2021), eucalyptus (Yu et al., 2009) and soybeans (Chen et al., 2020) in China and Korea. Our findings reported for the first time that B. dothidea (SH01) can induce the pepper rot disease and future work on its pathogenesis may provide strategies for disease control against this fungus.
First Report of Root Rot Caused by Fusarium incarnatum on Mongolian Snake gourd in China

Abstract:Mongolian snake gourd (Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim) is a precious traditional Chinese herbal medicine and perennial liana plant in the family Cucurbitaceae, and the root, fruit, seed and peel all possess the medicinal value (Zhang et al. 2016). During 2021-2022, the root rot was observed in a 20-ha commercial farm and became a major disease limiting Mongolian snake gourd production in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, China (119°27'E, 32°12'N). Field investigations showed that disease incidence was estimated at approximately 70% and resulted in up to a 50% decrease in total production. Symptoms on snake gourd initially appeared as yellow mottling produced on the surface of the infected new leaves and systemic wilting on the upper leaves. With the development of the infection, the base of the stem began to brown and die, and has lots of filamentous hyphae attached to it. As the lesions coalesced, the whole plant gradually wilted and died. In order to explore the cause of the disease, six infected plants were randomly collected from the commercial farm. The roots of the plants were rinsed in sterile water to remove soil debris, and symptomatic roots were surface sterilized using 75% ethanol for 60s, rinsed three times in sterile water, then plated onto the potato dextrose agar (PDA), and incubated at 25°C for 3 days in the dark. White fungal colonies grew from the tissue pieces, then hyphal tips were transferred to PDA to obtain pure cultures. A total of six isolates with similar morphological characteristics were obtained from six of the infected plants. One representative isolate GL21091501 was chosen for further analysis. At 5 days after inoculation, the colonies on PDA began to grow as white, and with the incubated time was extended, the hyphae turned yellowish-brown with a yellowish-brown center on the reverse side. Observations under a light microscope showed conidia that were falculate, slender and slightly curved, and the cells at both ends were sharp. Macroconidia had four to five septa, measuring 22.4 ~ 33.5 μm. Microconidia without septa, elliptical, measuring 4.36 ~ 9.88 μm. On the tip of aerial hyphae can form conidiophore, and produce macroconidia (Wonglom et al. 2020; Lin et al 2018). The pathogen was typical Fusarium spp. by morphological characteristics. To identify the species level, the mycelia of the representative isolate GL21091501 was used for genomic DNA extraction (Tiangen, China). The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and partial translational elongation factor subunit 1-α (TEF-1α) of the cultures were amplified and sequenced using the primer pairs EF1/EF2 and ITS1/ITS4 respectively (White et al. 1990; O'Donnell et al. 1998). The obtained sequences were deposited in GenBank under the accesion numbers OP311409 and OP311410. BLAST searches of the deposited sequences showed 100% identity with the existing TEF sequences (MT563420.1) and ITS sequences (MN539094.1) of Fusarium incarnatum isolates in GenBank. In addition, BLASTn analysis of these in FUSARIUM-ID database showed 99.62% and 100% similarity with F. incarnatum-equiseti species complex (FIESC) NRRL13379 [ITS] and NRRL34004 [TEF-1α]), respectively. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted with the neighbor-joining (NJ) method using MEGA6.0 (Tamura et al. 2007). Combined phylogenetic analysis revealed that the isolate shared a common clade with the reference sequence of F. incarnatum in the F. incarnatum-equiseti species complex. Therefore, according to morphological and molecular characteristics confirming the identity of the isolated pathogen as F. incarnatum. In order to fulfill Koch's postulates, fresh isolate GL21091501 hyphae were cut into 3 × 3 mm agar plugs from a 7 cm PDA plate and inoculated in 200 mL the Potato Dextrose (PD) liquid medium on a shaker at 170 rpm, 25°C for 5 days. Spores were filtered through four layers of gauze, adjusted to 1 × 106 spores/ml with sterilized water. Then Mongolian snake gourd seedlings at the two true leaves stage were transplanted in (15-cm-diameter) pots (1 plants/pot) filled with mixture of sterilized soil: vermiculite: pearlite (2:1:1, v/v). The pathogenicity test was conducted on seedlings plants by root irrigation method (50 ml/plant, 1×106 conidia/mL), control plants were irrigation with sterilized water (50 ml/plant). Each treatment was repeated three times. After 15 days, all inoculated plants showed the same symptoms observed on the original diseased plants in the field, whereas, the control plants remained symptomless. The same pathogen was successfully re-isolated from the inoculated plants, and identical to those of the originals based on morphological and sequence data. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. incarnatum causing root rot on Mongolian snake gourd in China. F. incarnatum has been reported to cause root and stem rot in many plants worldwide, including muskmelon (Wonglom et al. 2020), Cucurbita pepo (Thomas et al. 2019) and Bambusa multiplex (Lin et al. 2018). This discovery is of great importance for Mongolian snake gourd planters because the fungus is accurately identified in a certain geographic area and effective field management strategies are necessary to control this disease.
First Report of Burkholderia Glumae Isolated from Symptomless Rice Seeds in China.

Abstract:Burkholderia glumae causes grain rot and seedling rot of rice (Oryza sativa L.). It is seedborne and has caused severe damage in Japan (1). Since 1997, efforts have been made to detect the pathogen in rice seeds in China (2), where no typical symptoms have been observed in the rice paddy fields. Isolation from 623 symptomless rice seed samples yielded two samples, originally produced in Hainan province, with possible B. glumae (0.32%). Six bacterial strains isolated from these two samples showed characteristics similar to those of the standard reference strain of B. glumae, LMG 1837T from Belgium, in phenotypic tests including the Biolog identification system (version 4.2; Hayward, CA), pathogenicity tests, and gas chromatographic analysis of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) using the Microbial identification System (MIDI Company, Newark, DE) with aerobic bacterial library (TABA50). All strains were gram-negative aerobic rods, 1.5 to 2.5 μm × 0.5 to 0.7μm, and had 1 to 7 polar flagella. No green fluorescent diffusible pigment was produced on King's medium B. Colonies were gray-white, slightly raised with smooth margins, and appeared within 3 days on nutrient agar. A hypersensitive reaction was observed on tobacco cv. Benshi 24 h after inoculation. All isolates were identified as B. glumae with Biolog similarity of 0.68 to 0.87 and FAMEs similarity of 0.65 to 0.91. Identification as B. glumae was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (3) primers BG1: 5'-ACACGGAACACCTGGGTA-3'; and BG2: 5'-TCGCTCTCCCGAAGAGAT-3'. Inoculation of intact plants of cv. Jiayue with cell suspensions containing 108 CFU/ml of the six strains individually produced seedling rot and grain rot symptoms. The bacterium was reisolated from symptomatic rice plants. B. glumae was first reported from Japan as the cause of grain rot of rice in 1967 (1) and was isolated from symptomatic rice seeds in 1987 in Taiwan, China. To our knowledge, this is the first report of B. glumae being isolated from healthy-looking rice seeds in China. This indicates that the pathogen is already in the mainland of China and there is a risk of a seedling rot outbreak if rice seedlings are raised indoors on a large scale for transplantation as it is in Japan. First Report on Bacterial Heart Rot of Garlic Caused by Pseudomonas Fluorescens in China

Abstract:An unreported disease of garlic was observed in commercial fields in Jiangsu province, China. The symptoms started as water soaked lesions at the base of the leaves. Later, water-soaked areas developed on stems and spread to the internal tissues, followed by yellowing and necrosis along leaf edges and soft rot of the stems. The causal organism isolated from symptomatic plants was identified as Pseudomonas fluorescens based on its biochemical and physiological characteristics and confirmed by the cellular fatty acid composition and Biolog data as well as 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The bacterial isolates caused similar symptoms when inoculated onto garlic plants. In addition, leek and shallot were susceptible to the P fluorescens pathogen. However, the P fluorescens pathogen failed to cause any symptoms when it was inoculated onto 15 other plants. This is the first report of a bacterial disease of garlic caused by P. fluorescens in China.
First Report of Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum Causing Bacterial Wilt in Ginger in Peru

Abstract:Around 90% of Peru's ginger (Zingiber officinale) production is concentrated in the Junín region, due to the optimal agroecological conditions for its cultivation. In March 2024, fields with ginger plants (cultivar Criollo) in Junín region, provinces Chanchamayo and Satipo, specifically in the cities of Pichanaqui and Satipo respectively, exhibited approximately 40% of plants with severe symptoms of a disease characterized initially by plant yellowing and rapid progressing to necrosis. Affected rhizomes showed dark vascular bundles with milky white exudates upon cutting, while stems displayed vascular necrosis hindering water and nutrient transport, often resulting in plant death. Fifteen plants were sampled and diseased vascular tissues from rhizomes and stems were cultured on nutrient agar (NA) and incubated at 28°C. After 72 h, all isolations resulted in colonies with typical characteristics of Ralstonia solanacearum species complex (RSSC) were produced, with appearing fluid, irregularly round, and creamy white. Three isolates were selected for the identification steps (UNALM-RP01 to 03) were identified by PCR using primers 759/760 (Opina et al. 1997) confirming as RSSC with a 282 bp amplification product. Additionally, isolates were assigned to biovar 3 based on their ability to metabolize three acid-producing disaccharides (maltose, lactose, cellobiose) and three hexose alcohols (mannitol, sorbitol, dulcitol) (Hayward, 1964). Phylotype I was identified by multiplex PCR (primers Nmult) with a 114 bp amplification product (Fegan and Prior 2005). For the identification of the sequevars of the three isolates, DNA was extracted and PCR with primers ENDO-F/R (Ji et al. 2007) were performed to amplify and sequence the partial gene sequence of egl gene with 681 bp in length. The phylogeny by Neighbor joining with 10,000 bootstraps clustered the UNALM isolates along other sequevar 30 of R. pseudosolanacearum. The sequences were deposited in Genbank under accessions PQ213016, PQ213017 and PQ213018. For pathogenicity tests, bacterial colonies of isolate UNALM-RP01 were scraped from the culture media with a sterile needle and introduced into the stems of three 2-month-old ginger plants (cultivar Gigante). The plants subsequently exhibited yellowing seven days post-inoculation. Additionally, the rhizomes showed internal discoloration and bacterial exudation. Three plants were used as a control, which were pierced with a sterilized needle and showed no symptoms. All tested plants were kept in a greenhouse with controlled temperature (20-40 °C) The pathogen was successfully re-isolated from infected plants on NA medium, presenting typical colonies of RSSC and identified via PCR with primers 759/760, fulfilling Koch's postulates. This represents the first case in Peru of ginger plants infected with a Ralstonia species, specifically R. solanacearum phylotype I, corresponding to R. pseudosolanacearum. This species of RSSC and sequevar is known for causing disease in ginger. Its presence in Peru, however, may be the result of the pathogen's introduction, as its geographical origin is associated with Asia (Fegan and Prior 2005). To our knowledge, this is the first report of R. pseudosolanacearum causing ginger wilt disease in Peru. In 2024, an estimated average yield loss of 30% has been attributed to wilt disease in the Junín region, posing a significant threat to cultivation. Urgent and effective disease management strategies are essential to control and mitigate further losses.
Fusarium as potential pathogenic fungus of Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) wilt disease

Abstract:The wilt disease of ginger, caused by various Fusarium species, imperils the cultivation of this valuable crop. However, the pathogenic mechanisms and epidemiology of ginger wilt remain elusive. Here, we investigate the association between ginger rhizome health and the prevalence of Fusarium conidia, as well as examine fungal community composition in symptomatic and asymptomatic ginger tissues. Our findings show that diseased rhizomes have reduced tissue firmness, correlating negatively with Fusarium conidia counts. Pathogenicity assays confirmed that both Fusarium oxysporum and Fusarium solani are capable of inducing wilt symptoms in rhizomes and sterile seedlings. Furthermore, Fungal community profiling revealed Fusarium to be the dominant taxon across all samples, yet its relative abundance was significantly different between symptomatic and asymptomatic tissues. Specifically, there is a higher incidence of Fusarium amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) in symptomatic above-ground parts. Our results unequivocally implicate F. oxysporum or F. solani as the etiological agents responsible for ginger wilt and demonstrate that Fusarium is the principal fungal pathogen associated with this disease. These findings provide critical insights for efficacious disease management practices within the ginger industry.
First Report of Penicillium subrubescens Causing Root Rot of Knoxia roxburghii in China

Abstract:Knoxia roxburghii (syn. Knoxia valerianoides), locally known as 'Zi Daji', is a perennial herb that belongs to the Rubiaceae family, cultivated in different areas of China and recognized for its medicinal properties in traditional Chinese medicine (Chen et al. 2022). In 2021, root rot was observed during summer on K. roxburghii in Xiangyun and Dali, Yunnan Province (25°25'N, 100°40'E), China. Root rots were characterized by dark brown tissue from stem base to root, loss of vitality in tender leaves and wither. Three symptomatic root samples of K. roxburghii collected from different fields were rinsed with running water, and 0.5-1 cm2 fragments of diseased tissues were cut and surface-disinfested with 75% ethanol for 30 s, and 1% NaClO for 180 s. The fragments were then washed with sterile water, transferred to potato dextrose agar (PDA, 4.6%) and incubated at 28℃ in the dark for 3 days. A total of 13 isolates with consistent appearances were obtained by single spore isolation. These colonies on PDA showed gray and light brown obverse, and light green reverse after 10 days. The average growth rate was 3 mm per day. Conidia were nearly spherical or broadly elliptic, greyish-green, and 1.4-2.4×1.3-2.2 μm in size (n=50). The conidiophore has symmetrical or asymmetrical broom branches from the tip, with 2-4 small stems. The conidiophore branching patterns were predominantly biverticillate; stipes coarsely roughened, 80-210×2.6-3.0 μm; metulae were usually appressed verticils of 3-6, 6.4-12.5×1.6-3.0 μm; phialides were short and wide neck, 3.8-4.8×1.1-1.8 μm (n=30). The morphological characteristics of the fungus were identical to Penicillium (Mansouri et al. 2013). To further identify the isolate, one isolate (ByF10) was randomly selected for identification. DNA was extracted from mycelia using a simplified CTAB method. Primer pairs, ITS1/ITS4 and Bt2a/Bt2b were used to amplify the partial regions of rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and β-tubulin (TUB), respectively (White et al. 1990; Glass and Donaldson 1999). Blast searches showed that the sequences of ITS (OQ954757) and TUB (OQ970059) of isolate ByF10 were 99% (MH865456) and 100% (KC797611) identical with P. subrubescens CBS 130205 and CBS 129617, respectively. A concatenated phylogenetic tree (ITS+TUB) constructed using the maximum likelihood method showed that ByF10 was closely grouped next to isolates of P. subrubescens. Pathogenicity test was carried out using 1-year-old healthy seedlings of K. roxburghii cv. Yunji-1 growing on autoclaved soil (n=10). Ten plants were inoculated with mycelial blocks (5 mm2), which were taken from the colony margins of a 10-day-old culture (PDA) colony, and placed on the roots near the soil. Five control plants were inoculated with non-colonized PDA plugs. The pathogenicity test was repeated three times. All plants were kept at 25℃, 70% relative air humidity, and 12 h light/12 h regime dark for 35 days. After that period 95% of inoculated plants showed typical symptoms of root browning. P. subrubescens was only re-isolated from the inoculated plants, and identified based on morphological and molecular characteristics. No symptoms were observed in the controls. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of P. subrubescens causing root rot on K. roxburghii in China and the world.
First Report of Globisporangium ultimum Causing Pythium Damping-off and Root Rot on Pepper in Guizhou, China

Abstract:Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is a popular vegetable and condiment consumed around the world. In the Guizhou Province of China, peppers are the most commonly grown crop on 300,000 planted hectares. A variety of diseases routinely occur on peppers in this province, resulting in yield losses (Liu et al., 2022). Root rot is one of the most common symptoms and produces poor root growth and wilting of pepper. In April 2023, symptomatic pepper plants displaying stunting, dwarfism, wilting, and root browning were collected from five fields in Guizhou, with disease incidence ranging from 10% to 20%. The collected rotten roots were cleaned with sterilize distilled water and placed in selective V8 juice agar (V8A) medium (15% clarified V8 juice with 2.5 g/L CaCO3 and 2% agar) containing nystatin, ampicillin, rifampicin, and miconazole, and incubated at 25℃ for 1 to 2 days (Morita and Tojo, 2007). Eight isolates with similar colony morphology were transferred to V8A medium via hyphal tipping, and incubated at 25℃ in the dark. Colony and sexual structures were observed using a microscope. Mycelium was aseptate and formed white cottony colonies. Globose, intercalary, or terminal hyphal swellings were observed with a diameter of 20.5 to 25 µm (average: 22 µm), and aplerotic oospores had a diameter of 15 to 20 µm (average: 17.5 µm) with a wall thickness of approximately 2 µm. Three representative isolates HSLJ-3, LJG-1, and LJY-2 were chosen for further molecular identification. Sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) genes were identified using primer sets ITS4/ITS5 (White et al., 1990) and OomCoxI-Levup/OomCoxI-Levlo (Robideau et al., 2011), respectively. All sequences were deposited in GenBank (accession nos. OR554005, PP083310, and PP083420 for ITS, and OR529247, PP093821 and PP093822 for cox1). BLAST analysis revealed all ITS and cox1 sequences exhibited 100% identity with Globisporangium ultimum (Pythium ultimum) isolate BR850 (GenBank accession nos. HQ643892.1 and HQ708933.1 for ITS and cox1, respectively). Phylogenetic analysis was performed by the maximum-likelihood method on the CIPRES web portal (https://www.phylo.org/portal2/login!input.action, accessed on 9 January 2024). For pathogenicity tests, each isolate was cultured in V8A medium containing 50 autoclaved wheat seeds at 25℃ for 7 days. Budding pepper seedling (cv. Huaxi) was transplanted into a 0.4 L pot containing sterilized commercial potting mix (Seedling Cultivation Substrate, Hunan Xianghui Agricultural E-commerce Co., Ltd.) which was saturated with deionized water. Eight infected and non-infected wheat seeds were placed near the roots of five pepper seedlings, respectively. Plants were placed in an artificial climate chamber, with a 14 h photoperiod and approximately 75% relative humidity at 25℃. After 14 days, inoculated seedlings showed symptoms of stunting, wilting, and rotting roots similar to those observed in the field. No disease was observed on the non-inoculated control plants. The pathogen was isolated from infected pepper roots and confirmed as G. ultimum by morphological and molecular analyses as previously described. This is the first report of G. ultimum causing root rot on pepper in Guizhou, China. This finding is critical to the discover of treatment options for this pathogen, thereby improving management practices to reduce yield losses in pepper.
First report of root rot of Polygonatum odoratum caused by Fusarium acuminatum in China

Abstract:Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce is used in traditional Chinese medicine and also consumed as a vegetable. In July of 2020, a root rot was observed on P. odoratum in a commercial field located in Benxi city (41º23'32" N, 124º04'27" E), Liaoning province of China. About 35% diseased plants in the field exhibited poor vigor, were stunted, and had yellow or brown leaves. Affected plants wilted and died. Roots of the plants were poorly developed, had brown lesions, and later rotted. To determine the causal agent, symptomatic roots with typical lesions were cut into small pieces, surface sterilized in 2% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for 3 min, rinsed three times in sterile water, and plated onto PDA medium. After 5 days of incubation at 26°C, whitish-pink to red colonies growing from the root samples were observed and transferred to carnation leaf agar (CLA). Ten single conidia isolates obtained from the colonies on CLA were incubated at 26°C for 10 days. Abundant macroconidia were formed in sporodochia on CLA. Macroconidia were falcate, slender, distinctively curved in the bottom half of the apical cell, had 3 to 5 septa, and 33.1 - 46.3 × 5.0 - 7.2 μm (n=50). Chlamydospores formed in chains or single, measuring 13.8 to 14.5 μm in diameter. Microconidia were not observed on CLA. Morphologically, the isolates were identified as Fusarium acuminatum (Leslie and Summerell, 2006). To confirm the species identity, the partial translation elongation factor 1 alpha (TEF1-α) gene and rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of isolate YZ5-2 were amplified and sequenced (O'Donnell et al. 2015; White et al.1990). BLASTn analysis of both TEF sequence (MW423623) and ITS sequence (MW423626), revealed 100% (696/692 bp) and 99.64% (563/602 bp) sequence identity with F. acuminatum LC546967 and MF509746, respectively. Pathogenicity tests were carried out in the greenhouse. A conidial suspension (2 × 106 conidia per ml) of the isolate YZ5-2 was prepared from 7-day-old cultures grown in potato dextrose broth (PDB) o n a shaker (140 rpm) at 26±1°C. Five 12-liter pots were filled with sterilized field soil and each pot was drenched with 300ml of conidial suspension. Five control pots with sterilized field soil and 300 ml PDB were also included. Roots of 20 healthy P. odoratum plants were surface disinfected in 2% NaOCl for 3 min, and rinsed with sterilized water. Prior to planting, 2-3 pinholes (1.5× 1.0 mm) were made using a toothpick on the root surface of each plant, and they were then planted in each pot (2 plants per pot). All ten pots were maintained in a greenhouse at 22-26°C for 40 days. Plants grown in the pots inoculated with the conidial suspension were stunted, had yellowed leaves and were wilted. The roots of the affected plants were rotted. Disease symptoms were similar to those observed in field. Non-inoculated control plants had no symptoms. F. acuminatum was reisolated from inoculated plants and was identical to the original isolate. The experiment was repeated twice with similar results. To our knowledge, this is the first report of root rot of P. odoratum caused by F. acuminatum in China. The disease has since been observed on P. odoratum in fields in Liaoyang and Qingyuan city in Liaoning Province of China, and it has become an important threat to P. odoratum production in China.
First report of root rot in Trichosanthes kirilowii (Chinese cucumber) caused by Fusarium sulawesiense in China

Abstract:Trichosanthes kirilowii (Chinese cucumber) is one of the important perennial herbaceous vines in China, with putative pharmacological activities including anti-tumor and lowering blood lipids. In July 2022, T. kirilowii plants with brownish roots and chlorotic leaves were observed in several orchards in Qianshan, Anhui province, China (30°34'N, 116° 30'E). The disease incidence reached approximately 10% within an area spanning 20 ha, and was higher in poorly drained orchards. To investigate this root rot disease, five symptomatic plants were collected from the diseased orchards in Qianshan. Subsequently, small sections of the diseased roots were surface sterilized using 1% sodium hypochlorite and 75% ethanol for 45 seconds each. Then, sterilized roots were placed onto PDA (20% diced potato, 2% glucose, and 1.5% agar, and distilled water) and incubated at 28℃ in the dark for 6 days. A total of eight isolates with similar morphology were obtained and purified by single spore culturing. Two representative isolates (QSJ4 and QSJ5) were chosen for further analysis. When grown on PDA, the surface of each colony was white with dense aerial mycelium and pale orange color in the center with a white edge on the reverse side. Macroconidia produced on carnation leaf agar plates were falcate, slightly curved, and 3 to 5 septate, with papillate apical cells and indistinct basal cells. Macroconidia were 17.4-42.3 × 2.4-5.8 μm (n = 100). Microconidia were ellipsoidal in shape, slightly curved or not curved, and most were 1-septate, 9.6-16.7 × 1.5-3.8 μm (n = 40). The identity was determined by sequencing four loci (i. e., ITS, CAL, EF1-α and RPB2) from two representative isolates (Liu et al. 1999; O'Donnell et al. 1998, 2000; Reeb et al. 2004; White et al. 1990). Sequences were deposited in GenBank [ITS (OR267397, OR267398), CAL (OR296634, OR296635), EF1-α (OR296637, OR296638) and RPB2 (OR296640, OR296641)]. A phylogenetic analysis was performed with three loci (CAL, EF1-α, RPB2) comprising a concatenated dataset of 68 strains in the Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex (Han et al., 2023). The results showed that isolates QSJ4 and QSJ5 clustered closely together with reference strains of F. sulawesiense. Pathogenicity tests were conducted by inoculating three-week-old healthy T. kirilowii seedings (cv. Wanlou No. 9) cultivated in substrate soil in pots with a diameter of 17 cm and a height of 10.5 cm. A 20 mL aliquot of spore suspension (106 conidia/mL) of F. sulawesiense was inoculated to the roots of potted seedlings by irrigation. Each strain was inoculated onto three seedlings. The potted seedlings were inoculated with sterile water as the negative control. Inoculated seedlings were incubated in a growth chamber at 25℃ and 75% relative humidity. After one week, typical symptoms of root necrosis and leaf chlorosis were observed on the inoculated seedlings. Disease symptoms were not observed on the control seedlings. All seedlings showing root necrosis and leaf chlorosis caused by the inoculations were subjected to fungal isolation, and the results showed that the reisolated colonies matched the inoculated ones for morphologies and ITS sequences. Fusarium sulawesiense has been previously reported to cause disease on Cucumis melo L. in Brazil (Medeiros Araujo et al. 2021), Musa acuminata Colla in south Sulawesi (Maryani et al. 2019), Luffa aegyptiaca Miller and Musa nana Lour. in China (Wang et al. 2019). To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. sulawesiense causing Fusarium root rot of T. kirilowii in China.
