Abstract:Inclusive entrepreneurship has been proven to be an elixir for the inclusive growth in the ‘Base of the Pyramid’ (BOP) regions. Consequently, governors are trying various ways to direct resources into local region to support inclusive entrepreneurship. Some of these policies worked, while others don’t. Why? We argue that, although more resources enhance the chances to start business, it also leads to fierce competition among entrepreneurs, and finally impair the benefits of resource supports. So where to direct the resources to and how to arrange these resources should be carefully thought. Analysis based on data collected from inclusive entrepreneurs in Zhejiang province in China shows that, when the resources are directed to sectors with highly specific assets, the competition will be intensified. On the other hand, if the resources are carefully allocated to different links of an intact supply chain, direct competition among entrepreneurs will be mitigated, so the entrepreneurs will benefit more from the resource supporting plans. This study extends literatures on inclusiveness by offering an operational measurement of inclusiveness, and identifying two boundary conditions that will affect the efficacy of resource supporting plans.

Abstract:The social network is playing a crucial factor in rural entrepreneurial activities,and one of the key factors that affect rural entrepreneurial performance.However,in the previous studies,the internal working mechanism between social network and rural entrepreneurial performance is not well explained.This paper takes some pioneering rural entrepreneurs in China as the research target,exploring the relationship between rural en-trepreneurs’network and their entrepreneurial performance and testing the effect and the result of resources ac-quisition by the rural entrepreneurs in the above-mentioned relationship as an intermediated variable.The re-search results indicate that the scale and intensity of the rural entrepreneurs’network are two crucial factors that affect the rural entrepreneurial performance.That apart,resources acquisition plays part of the intermediary role between rural entrepreneurs’network and entrepreneurial performances.

Abstract:Despite the widely shared belief that entrepreneurial opportunity recognition is a critical initial step of peasant entrepreneurship,the question of what situation can enable peasants more likely to identify entrepreneurial opportunities remains unclear. To address the gap,this paper investigated the effects of network size,tie strength,entrepreneurial models in rural area,previous sales experience,and entrepreneurial experience on peasants entrepreneurial opportunity recognition. The study found out that the effect of opportunity recognition is associated with peasants' network size and tie strength; the more successful entrepreneurs in the rural community,the more possibilities the peasants can recognize for their entrepreneurial opportunities; peasants' sales experience or entrepreneurial experience helps improve the possibility of their entrepreneurial opportunities recognition.

Abstract:Based on questionnaires surveyed in manufacturing clusters in Zhejiang province, this paper studied the influencing mechanism that network characteristics of firms in cluster and their entrepreneurial behaviors through the mediating role of entrepreneurial capability. The results of empirical analysis indicate that: First, relation content and betweenness centrality are positively related to the three dimensions of entrepreneurial capability which include entrepreneurial cognitive capability, opportunity access capability, and resource integration capability. Second, tie strength and network intensity are positively related to entrepreneurial cognitive capability and resource integration capability, but negatively related to opportunity access capability. Network scale only has positive relation to resource integration capability. Results showed that it is one of the key approaches to improve entrepreneurial behaviors through cultivate the entrepreneurial capability based on the network characteristics of firms in clusters.

Abstract:Rural entrepreneurship is an important means to solve the problem of "rural decline" and is also the focus of the "rural revitalization" strategy. The rural entrepreneurship ecosystem directly affects entrepreneurial performance. Based on the configurational perspective, using the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method, taking 85 typical rural innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration counties in China as research samples, this study explores the impact path of the rural entrepreneurship ecosystem composed of multiple factors on entrepreneurial performance and the complex causal mechanisms behind it. The results show that market size, human capital, financial capital, infrastructure (both hardware and software), and government scale cannot individually constitute the necessary conditions for high or non-high rural entrepreneurial performance; there exist two pathways driving high entrepreneurial performance in rural areas: a market-driven financing-and-intelligence integration pathway and a government-supported infrastructure-assisted pathway. Under certain conditions, there is a substitution relationship between rural entrepreneurial market allocation and government intervention; there are two paths driving non-high rural entrepreneurial performance, which are summarized into market–financing suppression and market–government suppression according to the core driving factors. By systematically analyzing the impact of the rural entrepreneurial ecosystem on entrepreneurial performance, and explaining the intrinsic logic and path of high and non-high entrepreneurial performance based on the configurational perspective, this paper provides a decision-making reference for further enhancing the entrepreneurial performance in rural China and realizing rural revitalization.

Abstract:Currently, the rural economy is developing better and better with the advantages of equality and low cost of Internet platforms. However, inevitably, the rural Internet economy also faces some challenges in its actual development. Entrepreneurship is the main driving force for promoting the development of the national economy and the main method for improving people's living standards and quality. China highly recognizes the positive role of entrepreneurship in regional and even national economic development, and has introduced a number of policies and measures to provide practical support such as financial subsidies for entrepreneurial activities. Mobile edge computing technology not only provides a new economic environment for the information age, but also plays a key role in developing innovation and entrepreneurship and improving business efficiency due to its cross platform and multi-level characteristics. Mobile edge computing technology can process the data generated by resource allocation and provide technical support for resource allocation at the network edge. This paper studies the calculation of big data resource allocation in mobile edge computing systems. Through an analysis of the operation of rural economy based on the Internet, we will deeply explore the advantages that the Internet platform brings to the operation of rural economy. Based on local conditions, the use of Internet resources has strengthened the entrepreneurial capacity of the region, achieved rapid development of the rural economy, strengthened the construction of rural infrastructure, improved the construction of assistance systems, established a business service platform, and introduced relevant incentive mechanisms to ensure the implementation of rural entrepreneurship assistance policies.

Abstract:Based on the AMO theory framework, this study employs structural equation modeling to empirically analyze 226 questionnaires collected from three villages in Guizhou Province: Zhaoxing Dong Village, Xijiang Miao Village, and Basha Miao Village. The study investigates the influence of digital penetration on villagers' entrepreneurial behavior tendencies in tourism and specifically discusses the mediating effects of digital literacy, entrepreneurial passion, and social network relationships. The results indicate that (1) digital penetration has a direct positive impact on villagers' entrepreneurial behavior tendencies in tourism, and (2) digital literacy, entrepreneurial passion, and social network relationships serve as positive mediators in the relationship between digital penetration and villagers' entrepreneurial behavior tendencies in tourism, functioning as capability, motivation, and opportunity factors, respectively. Based on these findings, this study proposes an implementation path to stimulate villagers' entrepreneurial vitality in the context of digital rural strategies. Suggestions include improving rural basic network infrastructure, actively conducting skills training, inspiring villagers' entrepreneurial enthusiasm, and guiding them to establish social network relationships. The aim is to promote rural economic development, facilitate rural revitalization, and create employment opportunities through entrepreneurship.

Abstract:Many Internet users have provided a favorable atmosphere for rural e-commerce to thrive, and the return of rural inhabitants starting their own companies has had a significant impact on rural economic development. Understanding the influencing elements for returning residents to carry out rural e-commerce operations can provide suggestions for the ongoing development of the economy in rural regions and the lack of talent faced in rural areas, especially in light of the trend of people returning to their hometowns. This work offers a research model based on the push–pull–mooring (PPM) theory to explain the factors that drive returning residents to engage in rural e-commerce entrepreneurship. The empirical results determined using the PLS-SEM method and SmartPLS 3.0 software to analyze the survey data of 151 returning residents revealed that urban employment obstacles, policy support, and infrastructure are positively connected with returning residents carrying out rural e-commerce entrepreneurship. Start-up costs are negatively correlated with rural e-commerce entrepreneurship by returning residents. Policy support plays an intermediary role in the price of starting a business and in the return of rural residents starting a rural e-commerce business. We recommend that the government strengthens policy support for returning entrepreneurs, improves rural e-commerce infrastructure, assists entrepreneurs in lowering their start-up costs, and initiates activities aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial intentions and sustaining entrepreneurial activities, based on the findings of this study.

Abstract:The digital divide between urban and rural communities has substantially narrowed as information and communication technology has evolved, enabling increasingly more interactions between urban and rural areas. Rural areas now have the foundation and conditions to take advantage of e-commerce opportunities, which is no longer exclusively a city-centric economic mode. Taking advantage of the Internet's vast resources, many villagers jumped at the opportunity to launch rural e-commerce businesses. Rural inhabitants, however, face several challenges when it comes to starting their own e-commerce enterprises. Meanwhile, local governments and rural e-commerce platform providers, find it difficult to provide accurate help to practitioners and entrepreneurs. To this end, a system of indicators based on a model of entrepreneurial events was developed to identify e-commerce entrepreneurs. And the main objective of this paper is to explore the factors influencing the abilities and expectations of rural residents to set up their own e-commerce businesses in order to provide them with tailored support. Survey data from 162 rural e-commerce practitioners were analyzed using a deep neural network in R . The results reveal that the index system developed in this paper has a good level of reliability and validity, and the prediction approach has a high degree of precision (over 90%), indicating that it can successfully identify rural e-commerce entrepreneurs. Based on the findings of this study, we recommend that local governments and e-commerce businesses work together to address the practical issues of perceived feasibility and desirability for rural e-commerce practitioners. Residents in rural areas who want to start their own businesses can take advantage of the development opportunities provided by the information and communication technology, while local governments should keep up with the speed of digitization and informatization to better manage rural economic growth.

Abstract:Over the past few years, rural revitalization has become a focal point of interest in the discourse of sustainable development. However, there exists a gap in understanding the factors that foster economic sustainability in rural settings. The current study seeks to investigate the influence of digital economic transformation on rural revitalization in the context of China by employing a serial mediation model encompassing green entrepreneurship and green innovation. Data were collected from rural entrepreneurs using a stratified sampling method, with strata identified based on geographical and socioeconomic factors, which allowed for a comprehensive examination of various business sizes and stages across sectors. The authors analyzed the structural paths using multivariate analytical techniques by utilizing SmartPLS-SEM. The empirical findings provide support to the hypothesized relationships that: (1) digital economic transformation significantly promotes green entrepreneurship, which in turn, cultivates green innovation; and (2) green entrepreneurship and green innovation serially mediate the association between digital economic transformation and rural revitalization. Our study provides a holistic model that can inform regulatory frameworks and governmental strategies to support sustainable rural development in China.

Abstract:This paper aims to realize the planning of resource utilization and development of rural industries endowed by digitalization under entrepreneurship. First, the global classic practical experience of digitizing rural industries is studied, and the development model of existing rural industries is captured from the perspective of entrepreneurship. Second, the influencing factors of rural industrial development are extracted, the structure of resource development is analyzed, and a Neural Network (NN) model of industrial development aiming at expected per capita annual income is established. In addition, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is introduced to learn the weights of influencing factors in the model. The structure of the NN is determined through extensive experiments. Finally, conclusions are drawn through the simulation and experiment of NN and GA. Tourism, infrastructure, and transportation planning have weights of 7.79, 5.6, and 6.4, respectively, and these three sectors should be vigorously developed. In the future, the weight values of these factors can be used for reference, and the development of various aspects can be refined. This paper clarifies the core of industrial development in rural revitalization based on the perspective of entrepreneurship. The problem of how to realize the optimal utilization of resources is solved scientifically and rationally through the mathematical model. The introduction of deep learning algorithm models provides data support for resource allocation and industrial planning in the process of digital empowerment of traditional rural industries, which is of great value and significance for exploring digital models for rural industry development.

Abstract:Scarce financial supply and low education level are important factors that inhibit the entrepreneurial behavior of rural residents in China. Based on the Static Career Choice Model, this paper matches the 2016 China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) micro-data with the Peking University Digital Financial Inclusive Index of the previous years to empirically test the impact of digital financial inclusion and academic education, tacit knowledge, and Internet learning on farmers. The direct influence and linkage effect of entrepreneurial behaviors revealed that digital financial inclusion and multidimensional education could significantly promote farmers’ entrepreneurial choices. Digital financial inclusion can relieve the constraints of insufficient academic education on farmers’ entrepreneurial choices, partially replace the tacit knowledge for rural residents, and improve the efficiency of Internet learning, which ultimately enhances the entrepreneurial behavior choices of the farmers. Our results are still significant and robust with respect to the sample data, explained variables, and estimation methods. We also consider the use of instrumental variables to overcome the potential endogeneity issues. Through comparative analysis of different regions, it is found that the performance is particularly obvious in the eastern region.

Digital Rural Construction and Rural Household Entrepreneurship: Evidence from China

Abstract:Promoting rural entrepreneurship is an important approach to achieving rural revitalization, accelerating the construction of a new development pattern, and enhancing the well-being of farmers. Based on the County Digital Rural Index (CDRI) and the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS), we empirically examine the impact and role of digital rural construction (DRC) on rural household entrepreneurship. Our findings are as follows: (1) DRC plays a vital role in facilitating entrepreneurial behaviors (EB) and entrepreneurial performance (EP) among rural households. (2) DRC indirectly fosters rural household entrepreneurship by facilitating resource acquisition and opportunity identification. (3) Our heterogeneity analysis reveals that DRC's promotion effect is stronger among local entrepreneurs and individuals with risk-averse tendencies. Additionally, DRC has a more pronounced effect in stimulating EB within lower-income families, while its impact on EP shows the opposite trend. Furthermore, DRC's influence on rural household entrepreneurship is particularly significant in regions with more advanced digital rural development. (4) Additionally, we observe a significant positive impact of the four dimensions of DRC on rural household entrepreneurship, further affirming the role of DRC in driving rural household entrepreneurship. In the digital economy era, this study provides empirical evidence to promote the integration of digital technology and rural entrepreneurship, offering valuable insights for advancement in this domain.

Entrepreneurial effect of rural return migrants: Evidence from China

Abstract:Entrepreneurship is an important means of economic development. Rural migrant workers returning home to start their own businesses can promote employment, alleviate poverty, and achieve rural development structural transformation of rural development. The entrepreneurial effect of rural return migrants is important for rural economic development. Using the data of the China Labor Force Dynamics Survey (CLDS thereafter) 2018 and China Household Finance Survey (CHFS thereafter) 2019, we analyze the entrepreneurial effects of return migrants upon their return to their hometowns. We construct a career choice model and build a mathematical model based on it to formulate the hypothesis. Then, we use the Probit regression model to test the hypothesis empirically. Results find that the rural return migrants can promote entrepreneurship among residents. Land circulation, human capital, and physical capital are stimulating factors in promoting the rural entrepreneurial activities of return migrants. We recommend that the government actively guide the rural return migrants to start businesses and provide security for entrepreneurial activities by upgrading various entrepreneurial elements.
A Study on the Impact Mechanism of Internet Embedding on Rural E-commerce Entrepreneurship

Abstract:In the context of the rapid development of global Internet and e-commerce, rural e-commerce entrepreneurship has become an important driving force for rural e-commerce development. Using micro-survey data from five national e-commerce demonstration counties in China, this paper empirically examines the impact of Internet embedding on rural e-commerce entrepreneurship and the mediation effect of social capital. The results show that farmers are more likely to choose an independent entrepreneurship channel than a cooperative entrepreneurship channel when the Internet is embedded in rural areas. Then, social capital plays a suppressing effect between Internet embedding and farmers' e-commerce entrepreneurial choices. In addition, under the condition of Internet embedding, farmers with more social capital are more likely to choose cooperative e-commerce entrepreneurship channels.

Abstract:Whether Internet use can inspire returning migrant workers’ home entrepreneurship is of great practical significance for promoting rural revitalization. Based on the data of China Labor Dynamic Survey (CLDS) in 2016, this paper empirically studies the impact of Internet use on returning migrant workers’ home entrepreneurship. The results show that, firstly, Internet use can significantly improve the entrepreneurial probability of migrant workers returning home by 8%. The results remain significant after using the instrumental variables method for endogenous problem solving and propensity score matching, changing the sample size for robustness testing. Secondly, Internet use promotes migrant workers returning home to make entrepreneurial choices mainly through expanding informal finance and obtaining formal finance. However, the mechanism of expanding informal finance has only been effective for returning migrant workers with higher level of social trust. Thirdly, Internet use has heterogeneous impact on returning migrant workers’ home entrepreneurship, which is reflected in the fact that Internet use will more significantly promote the entrepreneurial probability of migrant workers returning home with necessity entrepreneurship motivation, close to banks, eastern and central regions and developed areas, and internet use will also significantly promote the probability of opportunity entrepreneurship among migrant workers returning home who are satisfied with their household economic situation. Therefore, it is necessary to further improve the construction of broadband infrastructure in rural areas, especially western and developing areas, set up training platforms for returning migrant workers’ home entrepreneurship, promote employment through entrepreneurship and stimulate regional economic vitality, so as to accelerate rural revitalization.

Abstract:Industrial cluster reflects a course of China economic development from the reform and opening of the economics, and it is especially observed in the rural area, which offers an explanation why since the 1980s some Chinese industries are so competitive in the world, as well as suggests successful model for inclusive development in China that allows people to highly participate in, and meanwhile to benefit from. This paper mainly focuses on the case of a freshwater pearl industrial cluster in Shanxiahu town of Zhejiang, which clearly demonstrates the evolution course of this industrial cluster, characteristics of its inclusive development and the agents of the industrial cluster formation. It is proved that the synergy of farmer entrepreneurs and government entrepreneurs promote the inclusive development of the rural economy, and facilitate the formation of industrial clusters. And the ability of local government to promote and sustain entrepreneurship and incentives to reconfigure resources to adapt to changing circumstances yields long-term economic growth. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:With the promotion of China’s Rural Revitalization Strategic Planning, the number of rural people returning to the countryside to start their own businesses continues to grow. Accompanied by the return of entrepreneurs, there are also a large number of new farmers, such as cross-industry entrepreneurs, university students, migrant workers returning to their hometowns to start businesses and other new types of agricultural business operators. Entrepreneurship of new farmers is an important field for them to participate in rural practice, which helps to activate rural resource factors, foster new growth drivers, increase rural employment and income, and better implement the rural revitalization strategy. Social capital is an important resource that affects the heterogeneous information acquisition and entrepreneurial performance of new farmers, while opportunity identification is the starting point of entrepreneurial activities and runs through the whole entrepreneurial process. This paper tries to explore the theoretical influencing mechanism of social capital on the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities of new farmers, which is of positive significance to promote the innovation and entrepreneurship of new farmers, improve their entrepreneurial performance and even promote economic transformation.

Abstract:Urbanization aims to promote citizenization, in which people’s social and spiritual needs must be satisfied. However, vulnerable land-lost farmers face many difficulties during the urbanization process. This is partly caused by the GDP-oriented policies that specifically target land-lost farmers. The government must change its governance from GDP (land) oriented to people oriented to improve its management performance. Central government is encouraging urbanization. However, only a few studies have investigated the entrepreneurial activities of land-lost farmers at the micro-level in China, which engenders ineffective policies for promoting such activities during urbanization. Based on grounded theory, this study develops a consciousness-situation-behavior model to explain the entrepreneurship mechanism of land-lost farmers. The authors discovered that entrepreneurial awareness motivates entrepreneurial behavior through the perceptions of desirability and feasibility. Land acquisition plays a mediating role in the relationship between entrepreneurial consciousness and behavior. For various situation factors, land location and entrepreneurship policy significantly mediate the relationship between entrepreneurial consciousness and behavior, whereas the settlement of land-lost farmers produces an insignificant effect on such relationship. A higher compensation can also lower the possibility of entrepreneurship. Based on these findings, practical policies are proposed.

Abstract:Purpose Social network and being a part of an established business network helps in the acquisition of resources. The purpose of this study specifically looked at the mechanisms through which network reliance (NR) influences the entrepreneurial performance (PERF) among rural farmer entrepreneurs in China. Design/methodology/approach The paper looks at the economic sociology perspective of social networks. A total of 450 rural farmer entrepreneurs were interviewed for the study. The study introduces emotional intelligence (EI) and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) into the relationship between NR, knowledge acquisition (KA) and entrepreneurial PERF. Findings The result shows that KA partially and positively mediates the relationship between NR and entrepreneurial PERF. EO is shown to moderate the relationship between KA and entrepreneurial PERF apart from its direct effect on entrepreneurial PERF. The EI of rural farmer entrepreneurs has a direct and significant effect on KA but does not moderate the relationship between NR and KA. Originality/value This study provides a new direction for extension education to rural farmer entrepreneurs. Knowledge building capacity programmes for rural farmer entrepreneurs should be an area of priority for extension education. Building the social capital and entrepreneurial capacities of rural farmer should be a new area of focus for policymakers. These measures will go a long to improving the capabilities of rural farmer entrepreneurs, which will, in turn, impact positively on their PERF.
