Abstract:Iron-based sulfate cathode materials are promising for rechargeable batteries due to their elevated operating voltages and earth-abundant elemental composition. However, the inherently unstable SO42- units in these sulfate materials result in their low-temperature decomposition (<450 degrees C) and lead to SO2 gas evolution, which can hinder the sulfate electrodes from producing high voltage safely. Herein, a new alluaudite-type sulfate cathode Na2Fe(SO4)(2) for sodium-ion batteries is reported, which displayed a high operating voltage of similar to 3.6 V based on the Fe2+/Fe3+ redox couple as well as superior thermal stability (similar to 580 degrees C). In both air and inert ambient conditions, its SO42- units demonstrated high thermal stability, assuring good safety for battery applications. Furthermore, the Na2Fe(SO4) 2 cathode material showed superior stability towards moisture for easy handling. The cathode exhibited reversible capacity of 82 mA h g(-1) at 0.1C under a nonoptimal carbon coating and maintained over 60% capacity retention at 2C. The excellent sodium storage abilities at 0 degrees C and 55 degrees C further demonstrated the advantages of Na2Fe(SO4)(2) for future energy storage applications in a wide temperature range. The present exploration of Na2Fe(SO4)(2) for sodium-ion batteries can pave the way for developing low-cost sulfate cathodes that combine high voltage and good safety.

Abstract:In continuous wave noise radar, pseudo-pulse compression is typically accomplished through a simple cross-correlation of the received and reference signals. We consider the use of adaptive filtering algorithms in pseudo-pulse compression for air-to-ground noise radar. Through analysis and simulations, we compare the SNR performance of cross-correlation to channel estimation via the LMS algorithm. The LMS algorithm was found to provide improved performance, relative to cross-correlation, as the number of observed targets increases.

Abstract:: A safe and low-cost aqueous electrolyte, in which amount sodium (NaTFA) is dissolved (26 mol kg -1 ), showed high ionic conductivity of 23 mS cm -1 and provided wide electrochemical stability window of 3.1 V. These attractive features may originate from so-called “water-in-salt” effect of the highly concentrated electrolyte in addition to a robust fluoride layer formed on anode thereof. This novel electrolyte enabled reversible operation of NASICON-type Na 2 VTi(PO 4 ) 3 as symmetrical operation based on V 3+/4+ at cathode and Ti 3+/4+ and V 2+/3+ at anode, respectively. Graphical Abstract that 26 m NaTFA aqueous electrolyte is highly beneficial to exploit all available redox reactions (V 2+/3+/4+ and Ti 3+/4+ ) of NVTP to the symmetrical aqueous sodium-ion battery. This novel NaTFA aqueous concentrated electrolyte may be categorized to good ionic solution, and it provides a stable electrochemical window by virtue of highly robust fluoride layer. Our results should contribute to further development of highly durable aqueous sodium-ion batteries, particularly those using low-potential anode materials.

Abstract:The two‐step synthesis of sodium (2,3,5,6‐tetrafluorophenoxy) diethane sulfonate (Na‐TFP) is reported, starting from 2,3,5,6‐tetrafluorohydroquinone as the precursor. Compared with conventional aqueous electrolytes such as 0.5 m NaClO4 and Na2SO4, the 0.5 m aqueous solution of Na‐TFP provides higher ionic conductivity over a wide range of temperature (e.g., >60 mS cm‐1 at 20 °C and >70 mS cm–1 at 30 °C) and a wider electrochemical stability window. Electrochemical cells with Na2VTi(PO4)3 as the positive electrode active material and a carbon‐based negative electrode provide a stable capacity for more than 450 cycles in 0.5 m Na‐TFP. Additionally, symmetric cells with Na2VTi(PO4)3 as the active material for the negative and positive electrode were studied. The cells employing 0.5 m Na‐TFP exhibit a good cycling stability at a high dis‐/charge rate of 5C for more than 50 cycles, which is superior to the performance of the cells employing 0.5 m aqueous solutions of NaClO4 and Na2SO4 as the electrolyte. Abstract:The Na‐ion battery is recognized as a possible alternative to the Li‐ion battery for applications where power and cost override energy density performance. However, the increasing instability of their electrolyte with temperature is still problematic. Thus, a central question remains how to design Na‐based electrolytes. Here, the discovery of a Na‐based electrolyte formulation is reported which enlists four additives (vinylene carbonate, succinonitrile, 1,3‐propane sultone, and sodium difluoro(oxalate)borate) in proper quantities that synergistically combine their positive attributes to enable a stable solid electrolyte interphase at both negative and positive electrodes surface at 55 °C. Moreover, the role of each additive that consists in producing specific NaF coatings, thin elastomers, sulfate‐based deposits, and so on via combined impedance and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy is rationalized. It is demonstrated that empirical electrolyte design rules previously established for Li‐ion technology together with theoretical guidance is vital in the quest for better Na‐based electrolytes that can be extended to other chemistries. Overall, this finding, which is implemented to 18 650 cells, widens the route to the rapid development of the Na‐ion technology based on Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C chemistry.

The preparation of esthetically appealing and anatomically correct implant-supported provisional restorations facilitates fabrication of the final implant-supported crown. The provisional restoration is used to mould and manipulate the soft tissue and acts as a blueprint or template for the final crown (Fig. 1).1,2,3 This type of restoration should be placed several weeks before the final impression is taken, to allow for maturation of the peri-implant tissue. My preferred method involves chairside fabrication of a fixed provisional restoration using an acrylic denture tooth affixed to a screw-retained temporary cylinder. The acrylic denture tooth is attached to the temporary cylinder with autopolymerizing acrylic, which is then retained to the implant fixture with a screw. The following technique provides an esthetic, functional and stable provisional restoration. Details of the Procedure 1) Remove the healing abutment and immediately replace it with a screwretained temporary cylinder (Fig. 2). Any delay may result in collapse of the gingival tissue over the fixture platform, which will make it difficult to seat the temporary cylinder. 2) Adjust the cylinder by reducing its length enough to allow the teeth to meet in centric occlusion. 3) Roughen the cylinder surface to enhance adhesion of the acrylic (Fig. 3), and then seal the lingual screw hole with boxing wax to protect the screw from the autopolymerizing acrylic that will be used (Fig. 4). 4) Select an appropriate acrylic denture tooth with matching shade, colour and form. A Na-rich Fluorinated Sulfate Anti-Perovskite with Dual Doping As Solid Electrolyte for Na Metal Solid State Batteries

Abstract:High-conductivity solid electrolytes are crucial components for the development of Na-based solid state batteries. However the electrolyte structure prototype and corresponding synthesis method are still lacking. The conventional oxide and sulfide electrolytes are precursor-expensive (e.g. Na2S) or energy-intensive in sintering synthesis (e.g. at 1000 degrees C). Here, we propose a novel anti-perovskite solid electrolyte of Na-rich fluorinated sulfate (Na3SO4F) benefiting from Mg and Cl co-doping by solid state reaction from low-cost precursors at moderate temperature (500 degrees C). The tailored dual doping enables an improvement of ionic conductivity by three orders of magnitude close to 10(-4) S cm(-1) at 60 degrees C. The creation of Na vacancies (by aliovalent Mg doping) and lattice expansion (by substituting F sites with larger-sized Cl ions) are responsible for the conductivity upgrade. A Na-Sn/Fe [Fe(CN)(6)](3) solid state battery based on Na2.98Mg0.01SO4F0.95Cl0.05 electrolyte can reversibly run with a first discharge capacity as high as 91.0 mAh g(-1) and a reversible capacity preserved at 77.0 mAh g(-1). This result paves a way to novel anti-perovskite family of fluorinated sulfates as potential alkali metal ion solid electrolytes beyond already reported A(3)OX (A = Li or Na, X = heavy halogen or hydrogenide anions) anti-perovskites.

Abstract:Na-I 2 batteries have emerged as an appealing energy storage technology owing to high energy density and costeffectiveness. However, the practical application of Na-I 2 batteries faces the dissolution of iodide/polyiodide in the electrolyte during the charge/discharge process. Herein, we immobilize I 2 by utilization of NaSbF 4 (NSF)based solid-state electrolyte (SSE). Impressively, the Na + transport in NSF nanoparticles (NPs) is via the conversion reaction of NaSbF 4 + NaF <-> Na 2 SbF 5 , which is different from the acknowledged Na + diffusion mechanism via vacancies in inorganic SSEs. To improve the interfacial compatibility, a composite polymer electrolyte (CPE) is fabricated based on NSF, poly (vinylidene fluoride - hexafuoro -propylene) (PVDF-HFP) and NaClO 4 , giving rise to stable Na stripping/plating in Na|Na symmetric cell. Especially, the quasi -solid-state Na|NSF CPE | I 2 full cell shows an outstanding electrochemical behavior, which is associated with the partial reduction of ClO 4 - -> Cl - and the stabilization of I + by F - or Cl - in the charge/discharge process. The resultant I + -F - or I + -Cl - intermediate can promote the multi -electron transfer of 2I - -> I 2 -> 2I + , leading to enhanced capacity and mitigated shuttle effect of iodide. Meanwhile, the formation of I + -F - in turn weakens the interaction of Na & ctdot; F in NSF, which is beneficial for Na + transport.
A Molecular-Sieving Interphase Towards Low-Concentrated Aqueous Sodium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Aqueous sodium-ion batteries are known for poor rechargeability because of the competitive water decomposition reactions and the high electrode solubility. Improvements have been reported by salt-concentrated and organic-hybridized electrolyte designs, however, at the expense of cost and safety. Here, we report the prolonged cycling of ASIBs in routine dilute electrolytes by employing artificial electrode coatings consisting of NaX zeolite and NaOH-neutralized perfluorinated sulfonic polymer. The as-formed composite interphase exhibits a molecular-sieving effect jointly played by zeolite channels and size-shrunken ionic domains in the polymer matrix, which enables high rejection of hydrated Na+ ions while allowing fast dehydrated Na+ permeance. Applying this coating to electrode surfaces expands the electrochemical window of a practically feasible 2 mol kg-1 sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate aqueous electrolyte to 2.70 V and affords Na2MnFe(CN)6//NaTi2(PO4)3 full cells with an unprecedented cycling stability of 94.9% capacity retention after 200 cycles at 1 C. Combined with emerging electrolyte modifications, this molecular-sieving interphase brings amplified benefits in long-term operation of ASIBs.

Abstract:An all‐solid‐state Na‐O2 battery based on a well‐designed NASICON‐type electrolyte Na3.2Hf2Si2.2P0.8O11.85F0.3, which has high ionic conductivity (2.39 × 10−3 S cm−1) and excellent chemical stability, is developed. Collaborating with the reasonable humidity of the atmosphere, the battery shows good cycle stability. The research demonstrates that NASICON‐type electrolyte Na3.2Hf2Si2.2P0.8O11.85F0.3 has good application potential for all‐solid‐state Na‐O2 batteries. Sodium‐air battery has great development potential due to its high energy density and high safety. However, most previous works are based on liquid electrolyte or polymer electrolyte, which will inevitably result in safety hazards such as electrolyte leakage and sodium dendrite growth. Herein, an all‐solid‐state Na‐O2 battery based on a well‐designed NASICON‐type electrolyte Na3.2Hf2Si2.2P0.8O11.85F0.3, which has high ionic conductivity (2.39 × 10−3 S cm−1) and excellent chemical stability, is developed. Abstract:A [DEME]PF6] ionic liquid is synthesized using a fluorohydrogenate ionic liquid precursor with both good yield and purity. It is then used to improve the oxidation stability of the solid electrolyte and enhance interfacial contact, achieving superior electrochemical performance in a high voltage Na secondary battery. Sodium secondary batteries have gained accolades as future energy storage devices due to their low costs and environmental benignity, but are heavily impeded by the poor anodic stabilities of most electrolytes, including solid‐state electrolytes (SSE), that render them incompatible with high‐voltage positive materials. This study reports, for the first time, a new synthesis technique using a fluorohydrogenate ionic liquid (IL)precursor to prepare a [DEME][PF6] ([DEME]+: N,N‐diethyl‐N‐methyl‐N‐(2‐methoxyethyl) ammonium) with high yield and high purity. Herein, a Na[PF6]‐[DEME][PF6] IL is formulated and subjected to a series of electrochemical tests to validate its performance in battery applications. The present IL harbors a strong oxidative stability (up to 5.2 V on Pt and >4.5 V on conductive carbon electrodes) that aids in the suppression of oxidative decompositions of one typical SSE, for example, beta alumina solid electrolyte (BASE), thereby extending their electrochemical window in hybrid SSE systems. A hybrid solid‐state Na secondary battery employing a high voltage positive electrode, Na3V2(PO4)2F3, is assembled using the BASE/IL configuration, and features energy density and superior cycling performance. This work demonstrates that sandwiching an SSE between the oxidatively stable [PF6]− IL can be an effective design for high voltage operation Na secondary batteries.

Abstract:Hybrid water-acetonitrile (AN) electrolytes with concentrated bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (LiTFSI) and Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl) imide (LiFSI) (LiTFSI-LiFSI=3:1, molar ratio) supporting salts are studied for high potential and large capacity rechargeable dual-ion battery. Hybrid water-acetonitrile electrolyte (WA) shows a wide electrochemical stability window from 3.1 V in 20m W electrolyte to 3.6 V in 20m W1A3 (water: AN=1:3, molar ratio) electrolyte, particularly, high oxidation potential, which can be assigned to the strong ionic solvated cluster formed between AN, water and LiTFSI-LiFSI supporting salts. The dual-ion battery is assembled using graphitic carbon (KS6) and activated carbon (AC) as cathode and anode, respectively, and 20m LiTFSI-LiFSI in hybrid AN-water as electrolyte. It was found that reasonably large capacity, coulombic efficiency, and cycle stability were achieved. The KS6/AC cell shows 86 mAh g-1 at the initial cycle and 50 mAh g-1 at 100th cycle within a voltage range of 0-3.25 V, and average coulombic efficiency of 85% was sustained over 200 cycles. The solvated structure of water to Li+ is strengthened by addition of AN from ATR-IR and NMR spectrums analysis and this change in solvated structure is the main reason for increased dual-ion battery performance.

Abstract:Sodium metal is a propitious anode for the development of next generation metal batteries owing to its low reduction potential (-2.71 V) and high theoretical capacity (1165 mAh g -1 ) 1 . Among various electrolytes, carbonate solvents can be useful to develop high voltage metal batteries with wide temperature range 2 . However, the aggressive reactivity of sodium metal in carbonate electrolytes lead to the formation of unstable solid electrolyte interface on the metal anode which renders poor long cycling performance to the battery 3 . In this work, we have fabricated thin and inorganic components (F and B rich) rich solid electrolyte interface (SEI) on Na metal anode and cathode electrolyte interface (CEI) on oxide-based cathode to improve long cycling stability of sodium metal battery. Here, fluorine (F) and boron (B) containing anion is compared with conventional hexafluorophosphate anion (PF6 - ) in binary carbonate solvent system (EC:EMC). The stable stripping/plating behaviour of both symmetric (Na/Na) and asymmetric cell (Al/Na) in case of F and B containing anion is found compared to the PF 6 - anion. The excellent long-term cycling stability of full cell (Na/Na 0.67 Fe 0.5 Mn 0.5 O 2 ) is further attributed to the improved electrochemical stability window and better aluminium passivation on employing F and B containing anion in the electrolyte system as compared to PF 6 - anion. The dual role of F and B containing anion to form stable interfaces on both the anode and cathode side provides a pathway in the development of fluorinated electrolytes for high voltage sodium metal batteries. Abstract:Due to the intrinsic flame-retardant, eutectic electrolytes are considered a promising candidate for sodium-metal batteries (SMBs). However, the high viscosity and ruinous side reaction with Na metal anode greatly hinder their further development. Herein, based on the Lewis acid-base theory, a new eutectic electrolyte (EE) composed of sodium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (NaTFSI), succinonitrile (SN), and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) is reported. As a strong Lewis base, the ─C≡N group of SN can effectively weaken the interaction between Na+ and TFSI-, achieving the dynamic equilibrium and reducing the viscosity of EE. Moreover, the FEC additive shows a low energy level to construct thicker and denser solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on the Na metal surface, which can effectively eliminate the side reaction between EE and Na metal anode. Therefore, EE-1:6 + 5% FEC shows high ionic conductivity (2.62 mS cm-1) and ultra-high transference number of Na+ (0.96). The Na||Na symmetric cell achieves stable Na plating/stripping for 1100 h and Na||Na3V2(PO4)3/C cell shows superior long-term cycling stability over 2000 cycles (99.1% retention) at 5 C. More importantly, the Na||NVP/C pouch cell demonstrates good cycling performance of 102.1 mAh g-1 after 135 cycles at 0.5 C with an average coulombic efficiency of 99.63%.

All‐Fluorinated Low‐Solvation Electrolytes for High‐Voltage Sodium Metal Batteries with Appealing Stability

Abstract:The all‐fluorinated low‐solvation system is constructed by low polarity solvent FEMC and LiDFOB additive, realizing the regulation of electrochemical window, solvation structure, and electrode‐electrolyte interphase. High oxidation resistance is guaranteed and the dissolution of SEI is suppressed, contributing to the ultra‐stable cycling of sodium‐metal batteries at high‐voltages. High‐voltage sodium‐metal batteries (SMBs) are considered a promising battery system due to their abundant sodium source and high energy density. However, the instability of electrolytes, notorious reactivity of Na metal, and severe dissolution of solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film impede their long lifespan and high safety. Herein, a low‐solvation modulating strategy is proposed to design an all‐fluorinated electrolyte consisting of 1 m NaPF6 in fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC), methyl 2, 2, 2‐trifluoroethyl carbonate (FEMC), and lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate (LiDFOB), realizing high working voltage and excellent cycling stability of SMBs. Theoretical calculations and experimental characterizations confirm that the presence of FEMC significantly improves the antioxidant property of the electrolyte and contributes to the formation of high‐quality interfacial phases on both anode and cathode. While LiDFOB benefits to optimize the energy bandgap and the solvated structure and stabilizing the FEMC. Consequently, excellent oxidative stability up to 5 V and ultra‐stable cycling of Na||Na3(VOPO4)2F battery (with a capacity retention of 82.9% after 1800 cycles at 4.4 V) are obtained, exhibiting superior stability to its counterparts. The proposed strategy provides a new insight to design SMBs operated at high voltages.

Low Concentration DMF/H 2 O Hybrid Electrolyte: A New Opportunity for Anode Materials in Aqueous Potassium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Superconcentrated "water-in-salt" electrolytes have greatly widened the electrochemical stable window (ESW) of aqueous electrolytes, but they also generate new problems, including high costs, high viscosity, and low conductivity. Here we report a 2 m low concentration electrolyte using an N,N-dimethylformamide/water (DMF/H2O) hybrid solvent, which provides a wider ESW (2.89 V) than an aqueous electrolyte (2.66 V) and presents nonflammability, high conductivity, and low viscosity characteristics. In 2 m DMF/H2O hybrid electrolyte, the LUMO energy of the DMF solvent (−0.00931 a.u.) is lower than that of H2O (−0.00735 a.u.), which could effectively promote the degradation of FSI– and lead to stable solid electrolyte interphase formation. As a result, the electrochemical reversibility and cyclability of the KTi2(PO4)3@C () anode in the aqueous electrolyte have been significantly enhanced with the help of DMF addition. Moreover, the K2Zn3(Fe(CN)6)2 (KZnHCF)// full potassium-ion battery exhibits highly efficient stability and rate capability with a long cycle performance over 10 000 cycles and delivers a specific discharge capacity of 33 mAh g–1 at a high current density of 20 A g–1. Low concentrations of DMF/H2O hybrid electrolytes can inhibit the hydrogen evolution reaction of aqueous electrolytes, providing more opportunities for the practical application of electrode materials. Abstract:The world is at the cusp of a new era where pivotal importance is being attached to the development of sustainable and high-performance energy storage systems. Potassium-ion batteries are deemed not only as cheap battery candidates, but also as the penultimate high-voltage energy storage systems within the monovalent-cation chemistries. However, their performance and sustainability are undermined by the lack of suitable electrolytes for high-voltage operation particularly due to the limited availability of cathode materials. Here, the potential of ionic liquids based on potassium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide (KTFSA) as high-voltage electrolytes is presented by assessing their physicochemical properties, along with the electrochemical properties upon coupling with new high-voltage layered cathode materials. These ionic liquids demonstrate a lower redox potential for potassium dissolution / deposition (with a wide voltage tolerance of around $6.0$ $\rm V$), placing them as feasible and safe electrolytes for high-voltage potassium-ion battery configuration. This is proven by matching this electrolyte with new high-voltage layered cathode compositions, demonstrating stable electrochemical performance. The present findings of electrochemically stable ionic liquids based on potassium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide will bolster further advancement of high-performance cathode materials, whose performance at high-voltage regimes were apparently restricted by the paucity of suitable and compatible electrolytes.
Fluorinated and safety-reinforced copolymer solid electrolytes for high-voltage all-solid-state sodium metal batteries

Abstract:Poly (ethylene oxide)-based all-solid-state electrolytes are extensively regarded as highly promising contenders for the upcoming era of sodium metal batteries. Nevertheless, the intrinsic elevated highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the strong sodium-ion adsorption energy lead to a narrow electrochemical stability window (ESW) and a sluggish ion transport kinetics, thus retarding its widespread application in high-voltage batteries. About these shortcomings, we propose a strategy of fluorine substitution through a ready UV-initiated free-radical copolymerization to regulate the orbital level sodium-ion adsorption energy of poly (ethylene oxide) electrolytes. The characterization confirmed the success in the introduction of fluorine into the polymer (referred to as P-co-F). DFT calculations demonstrated a lower HOMO (-7.061 eV) in fluorine-substituted polymer electrolyte, which enabled to expand the ESW up to 5.55 V. Besides, the sodium-ion adsorption energy on P-co-F was decreased from −2.78 eV to −3.43 eV, facilitating the rapid transport of sodium ion. In addition, Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) was adopted as a support frame, which would reinforce the mechanical properties of polymer electrolytes. The electrochemical tests suggested P-co-F exhibited a profound interfacial stability in the Na//Na symmetrical system throughout an operational duration of 4690 h at 0.1 mA cm −2 . The assembled all-solid-state battery manifested remarkable stability during continuous cycling at room temperature for 200 cycles, retaining an impressive 96.59 % of its initial capacity at 0.1C. The intriguing fluorine-induced effect, coupled with a cost-effective safety substrate, will provide valuable insights for the rational molecular design of innovative electrolytes and easy production scalability for all-solid-state Na metal batteries.
