Abstract:Parvovirus B19 (B19V) as a human pathogenic virus, would cause a wide range of clinical manifestations. Besides the supportive and symptomatic treatments, the only FDA-approved antiviral drug for the treatment of B19V is intravenous immunoglobulins, which however, have limited efficacy and high cost. By far, there are still no virus-specific therapeutics clinically available to treat B19V infection. Therefore, exploiting the potential targets with a deep understanding of the life cycle of B19V, are pivotal to the development of B19V-tailored effective antiviral approaches. This review will introduce antiviral agents via blocking viral invasion, inhibiting the enzymes or regulatory proteins involved in DNA synthesis, and so on. Moreover, nanotechnology-enabled approaches against B19V will also be outlined and discussed through a multidisciplinary perspective involving virology, nanotechnology, medicine, pharmaceutics, chemistry, materials science, and other fields. Lastly, the prospects of the antiviral agents and nanosystems in terms of fabrication, clinical translation and potential breakthroughs will be briefly discussed.
Donor-Derived Human Parvovirus B19 Infection in Kidney Transplantation

Abstract:Background Donor-derived human parvovirus B19 (B19V) infections are rarely reported. Thus, its incidence in kidney transplantation is still unknown due to lack of surveillance studies. Similarly, whether the donor needs to be routinely screened for B19V and whether the kidneys from those with B19V DNAemia could be accepted also remain unknown.</p> Methods This retrospective study aims to evaluate the donor-derived B19V infections occurring in 823 living and 1,225 deceased donor kidney transplantations from January 2016 to December 2020. The serum viral load of living donors and their corresponding recipients was evaluated before and after transplantation. Meanwhile, for the deceased donor kidney transplantation, the serum viral load of recipients was only tested after transplantation; if recipients of a deceased donor subsequently developed B19V infection, the serum viral load of recipients and their corresponding donors before transplantation would then be further traced.</p> Results A total of 15 living donors were B19V DNAemia positive before the donation, of which B19V DNAemia occurred in three corresponding recipients. In deceased donor kidney transplantation, DNAemia occurred simultaneously in 18 recipients and their corresponding nine donors. A progressive decline in hemoglobin and reticulocyte count could be observed in one living donor recipient and other 11 deceased donor recipients, which were all well controlled by treatment eventually.</p> Conclusion The incidence of donor-derived B19V infection was 0.4% and 1.5% in living and deceased kidney transplantations, respectively. B19V was seemingly unnecessary to be routinely screened for the donor. Moreover, kidneys of the donors with B19V infection were acceptable.</p>

Abstract:Immunosuppressed patients can contract parvovirus B19, and some may experience hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Herein, we describe the first report of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in a heart-lung transplant patient with concomitant parvovirus B19 infection. The patient was treated with intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) and the features of HLH were remission. This instance emphasizes the significance of parvovirus B19 monitoring in transplant patients with anemia; if HLH complicates the situation, IVIG may be an adequate remedy. Finally, a summary of the development in diagnosing and managing parvovirus B19 infection complicated by HLH is provided.

Abstract:Parvovirus B19 (PB19) is a single-stranded DNA virus that belongs to the Erythrovirus genus within the Parvoviridae family. Clinical presentations associated with PB19 infection vary greatly, depending on the infected individual’s age and hematologic and immunologic status. The limited data available regarding consensus on screening algorithms and indications in donors and recipients prior to kidney transplantation makes diagnosis and management challenging. We presented 3 cases of pure red cell aplasia due to parvovirus B19 after kidney transplant. These patients were diagnosed with severe normocytic, normochromic anemia (hemoglobin below 60 g/L) in the 1st 6 months posttransplant. A complete anemia work-up revealed low reticulocyte count and was otherwise inconclusive. All patients were diagnosed with pure red cell aplasia due to parvovirus B19. Two patients improved after receiving intravenous immunoglobulin 2 gm/kg given over 4 doses. Unfortunately, they relapse after few weeks and required additional doses of intravenous immunoglobulin in conjugation with reduction of their immunosuppressive medication. The third patient improved after holding mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and did not require intravenous immunoglobulin. Whereas PB19 infection is typically self-limiting and associated with positive IgM serology in immunocompetent hosts, these cases highlight the importance of considering PB19 infection in the differential diagnosis of persistent anemia in immunocompromised patients and the challenges in confirming the diagnosis. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) can be an effective treatment in immunocompromised patients with primary or relapsed PB19 infection in conjunction with minimizing immunosuppressive medication. Further research and consideration are required to determine appropriate and targeted screening in donors and recipients in the peritransplantation period.

Abstract:Human parvovirus B19 is a small single-stranded DNA virus and a cytotoxicity to erythropoiesis.About 50% of women of childbearing age who do not possess protective IgG antibodies against B19V become susceptible persons.Infection with parvovirus B19 during pregnancy can cause several serious complications.such as miscarriage,fetal hydrops and fetal death.Parvovirus B19 diagnosis mainly rely on Testing maternal serum for antibodies.HPV-B19 DNA detection by PCR is very sensitive.Ultrasound investigation of the fetus and measurement of the peak systolic flow velocity of the middle cerebral artery are the effective means of non-invasive procedures to diagnose fetal anemia and hydrops.At present,there are no specific treatment protocol for acute parvovirus B19 infection.But early diagnosis and timely treatment of intrauterine parvovirus B19 infection is essential in preventing these fetal complications.Intrauterine transfusion is currently the only effective treatment to alleviate fetal anemia.Individual counseling of susceptible pregnant women will reduce probability of fetal deaths.if the fetus is (near) term,induction of delivery should be considered to reduce fetus risks.Development of a vaccine against B19 play a critical role in serum antibody-negative pregnant women.

Abstract:Ensuring the safety of blood and blood products is a vital aspect of healthcare. The potential for transmission of pathogens through blood and blood products makes transfusion safety a significant concern. Despite advancements in testing methodologies, donated blood products still pose a risk for infection transmission. Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) is a small, single-stranded, non-enveloped DNA virus transmissible parenterally by blood transfusion. B19V causes a wide range of clinical manifestations, which is generally harmless in healthy individuals. B19V infection may cause severe complications, such as aplastic crises, as it affects erythrocyte progenitor cells in individuals with increased erythrocyte turnover. Additionally, B19V can be transmitted from pregnant women to their foetus, potentially causing hydrops fetalis and foetal death. The potential for transmission through blood and blood products makes B19V a significant concern for transfusion safety. In response to the growing recognition of B19V's impact on transfusion safety, various international health organisations have introduced guidelines to minimise its transmission through blood and plasma products. However, the implementation of these guidelines varies globally, with some regions, such as India, still lacking formal protocols for B19V monitoring. This review article explores the existing methodologies for screening blood donors for B19V, assesses the associated transfusion risks, and considers the implications for public health and clinical practice. By emphasising advancements in diagnostic techniques and the challenges of their implementation, this article provides a comprehensive overview of efforts to reduce the transmission of B19V through blood transfusions, thereby ensuring safer blood supplies and improved patient outcomes.

Abstract:We report an adult liver transplant recipient with parvovirus B19 infection, presenting as chronic transfusion‐dependent anemia ensuing I month post‐transplantation. Both serum and bone marrow cells were positive for parvovirus B19 DNA detected by polymerase chain reaction. The bone marrow biopsy revealed erythroid hypoplasia with a selective decrease of nucleated red cell precursors, and giant pronormoblasts with prominent intranuclear inclusions, characteristic of parvovirus B19 infection. Anemia and viremia resolved shortly after administration of immunoglobulin, suggesting a therapeutic role. This case and several similar ones in the literature provide justification for a controlled clinical trial of immunoglobulin for parvovirus‐induced anemia in transplant recipients.

Abstract:Background: Human parvovirus B19 (HPV B19) is a single-stranded DNA virus. The detection rate of HPV B19 in the blood of healthy blood donors using PCR technology was reported to be 6.323/100000. However, that among hospitalized patients suspected of being infected with a pathogenic microorganism is unknown. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 2,182 high-throughput NGS results for 1,484 inpatients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2020 to October 2021 who were suspected of being infected with a pathogenic microorganism, as well as on clinical data of some HPV B19-positive patients. Results: Human parvovirus B19 was detected in 39 samples from 33 patients. The positivity rate was 2.22% among patients and 1.78% among samples. HPV B19 was detected in 20 cerebrospinal fluid samples, 13 blood samples, 3 alveolar lavage fluid samples, 2 tissue samples, and 1 throat swab. Based on clinical symptoms and NGS results, 16 patients were diagnosed with HPV B19 infection. The number of HPV B19 sequences in these patients was greater than 6, and the patients showed common symptoms such as fever (14 cases), anemia (11 cases), and severe nervous system symptoms such as meningoencephalitis (9 cases) and Guillain–Barré syndrome with peripheral motor and sensory nerve axon damage (4 cases). All 16 patients had experienced events likely to lead to decreased immunity (11 had a history of trauma/surgery/major disease, 4 had a history of precursor infection, and 3 had used immunosuppressants) and 7 had a history of blood transfusion during hospitalization. After treatment with antiviral drugs (12 cases) and intravenous human immunoglobulin (3 cases), of the 16 patients, 14 patients improved. Conclusion: The HPV B19 infection rate in hospitalized patients suspected of microbial infection was 2.22%. Most patients with HPV B19 infection had a history of low immunity and blood transfusion. HPV B19 could be detected in various bodily fluids and tissues (especially cerebrospinal fluid) using NGS. Patients with severe HPV B19 infection may have nervous system damage such as Guillain–Barré syndrome and meningoencephalitis. Early diagnosis using NGS and treatment with antiviral drugs and immunoglobulin can improve prognosis.

Abstract:BackgroundThere should be a heightened index of suspicion for Parvovirus B19 (PVB19)-related anemia in organ transplant recipients. Thus far, there is no consensus or recommendation for clinical routine monitoring methods of PVB19 recipients to allow tailoring of immunosuppression.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the utility of the function (represented by the abilities to secrete IFN-γ) and numbers of lymphocyte subsets in monitoring PVB19 infections in renal recipients posttransplant. The enrolled 109 patients were split into 2 groups according to whether the recipients had an occurrence of PVB19 infection: 37 (33.94%) recipients developed PVB19 infection and 72 (66.06%) immune-stable recipients.ResultsThe PVB19 infected group had significantly lower absolute counts and functions of different lymphocyte subsets compared with immune-stable recipients. We showed that the frequencies of IFN-γ + CD4 + T cells, IFN-γ + CD8 + T cells, and IFN-γ + NK cells increased markedly after treatment when compared to the occurrence in patients with timepoint before therapy, especially the percentages of IFN-γ + CD4 + T cells were significantly higher. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that the optimal infection indicator was IFN-γ + NK cells frequency, with an auROC curve of 0.925. Concomitantly, Cox regression analysis indicated that the post-therapy increasing level of IFN-γ secreting function was significantly predictive of recurrent infections (P < 0.001).ConclusionsWe recommend prospective risk stratification for the high-risk population at risk of early-onset PVB19 infection and its recurrence involves screening strategies of immune-based surveillance with the sensitive IFN-γ + secreting monitoring for antiviral prophylaxis and preemptive therapy goal.Clinical Trial Notation: clinical trial registration number: chiCTR-ROC-17010756.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features,diagnosis and treatment of pure redcell aplasia cased by human parvovirus B19 infection after renal transplantation.Method The clinical data including clinical symptoms and physical signs,laboratory and pathological examinations and outcomes of treatment in 8 cases at our hospital from Aug.2011 to Mar.2012 were analyzed retrospective,and relative literatures were reviewd.Result Pure red-cell aplasia occurred in all 8 cases 1 to 3 months after kidney transplantation,and one case had recurremt pure red-cell aplasia.The manifestations including recurrent reduction of hemoglobin,and pure red-cell aplasia was definitely diagnosed by bone marrow morphology,pathology,and polymerase chain reaction assay PVB19 DNA.Treatment of intravenous immunoglobulin and conversion of tacrolimus into ciclosporin was effective.Conclusion PVB19 is a rare but clinically significant infection that manifests as pure red cell aplasia during the early post-transplantation.Treatment of intravenous immunoglobulin and conversion of tacrolimus into ciclosporin in most cases was effective.

Abstract:Background Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) is a common contaminant found in plasma pools and plasma derivatives. Previous studies were mainly focused on limited aspects, further assessment of prevalence of B19V DNA and antibodies in plasma donors, the contamination of B19V in pooled plasma and plasma derivatives should be performed in China. Study Design and Methods Individual plasma donors’ samples from four provinces and pooled plasma from four Chinese blood product manufacturers were collected and screened using B19V DNA diagnostic kits between October 2018 and May 2020. The positive samples were investigated for the seroprevalence of B19V antibodies and subjected to sequence analysis and alignment for phylogenetic studies. Moreover, 11 plasma donors who were B19V DNA-positive at their first testing were also followed during the later donation period. Additionally, 400 plasma pools and 20 batches of plasma derivatives produced by pooled plasma with a viral load of B19V DNA exceeding 10 4 IU/mL were also collected and tested for B19V DNA and antibodies. Objectives To comprehensively and systematically determine the frequency and viral load of B19V DNA in plasma donors, pooled plasma, and plasma derivatives from four Chinese blood product manufacturers. Results A total of 17,187 plasma donors were analyzed and 44 (0.26%) specimens were found positive for B19V DNA. The quantitative DNA levels ranged from 1.01 × 10 1 to 5.09 × 10 12 IU/mL. Forty-four DNA-positive specimens were also investigated for the seroprevalence of B19V antibodies, 75.0% and 2.3% of which were seropositive for B19V IgG and IgM antibodies, respectively. The phylogenic analyses showed that the prevalent genotypes in the four provinces’ plasma donors belonged to B19V Genotype 1. Eleven individual plasma donors who were B19V DNA-positive at the first donation were then followed for a period, and in general, the DNA levels of B19V gradually decreased. Moreover, 64.8% (259/400) of the pooled plasma was contaminated by B19V, with concentrations of 1.05 × 10 0 –3.36 × 10 9 IU/mL. Approximately 72.6% of the DNA-positive plasma pools were only moderately contaminated (<10 4 IU/mL), while 27.4% contained >10 4 IU/mL. Twenty batches of plasma derivatives produced by pooled plasma with a viral load of B19V DNA exceeding 10 4 IU/mL were also tested. B19V was detected in 5/5 PCC samples and 5/5 factor VIII samples but was not found in the intravenous immune globulin and albumin samples. Conclusion The contamination of B19V in pooled plasma and plasma-derived clotting factor concentrates is serious. Whether B19V nucleic acid testing (NAT) screening of plasma and plasma derivatives is launched in China, blood product manufacturers should spontaneously perform B19V NAT screening in plasma donors and mini-pool plasma. These measures can ensure that samples with high titer B19V DNA are discarded in order to prevent and control this transfusion transmitted virus.

Abstract:Rationale: Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) is a non-enveloped single-stranded DNA virus associated with a variety of human diseases. Reports of B19V infection after cardiac transplantation are relatively rare. Patient concerns: We report a case of a 48-year-old women who underwent orthotopic heart transplant for dilated cardiomyopathy. She developed an anemia after cardiac transplantation. Anemia was most severe 2 months after surgery, with a decrease in reticulocyte count. Serological DNA test for parvovirus B19V was performed and the result was positive. Diagnoses: B19V infection. Interventions and outcomes: Intravenous immunoglobulin administration resulted in a resolution of the anemia. The patient's blood test results showed a normal hemoglobin and reticulocyte count 1 year after surgery. Lessons: Patients with parvovirus B19V infection may develop severe anemia after heart transplantation. The diagnosis mainly relies on viral DNA detection. Intravenous immunoglobulin is an effective treatment for viral infection.
Novel Nucleic Acid Detection for Human Parvovirus B19 Based on Pyrococcus furiosus Argonaute Protein

Abstract:Parvovirus B19 (B19V) is pathogenic to humans and causes various human diseases. However, no antiviral agents or vaccines currently exist for the treatment or prevention of B19V infection. Therefore, developing sensitive and specific methods for B19V infection diagnosis is essential for accurate diagnoses. Previously, a Clustered Regularly Interspaced Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas12a (cpf1)-based electrochemical biosensor (E-CRISPR) with a picomole sensitivity for B19V detection was established. Herein, we set up a novel nucleic acid detection system based on Pyrococcus furiosus Argonaute (PfAgo)-mediated nucleic acid detection, targeting the nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) region of the B19V viral genome (abbreviated B19-NS1 PAND). Benefiting from independent protospacer adjacent motif (PAM) sequences, PfAgo can recognize their target with guide DNA (gDNA) that is easy to design and synthesize at a low cost. In contrast to E-CRISPR, without preamplification with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), the Minimum Detectable Concentration (MDC) of three guide- or single guide-mediated B19-NS1 PAND was about 4 nM, approximately 6-fold more than E-CRISPR. However, when introducing an amplification step, the MDC can be dramatically decreased to the aM level (54 aM). In addition, the diagnostic results from clinical samples with B19-NS1 PAND revealed 100% consistency with PCR assays and subsequent Sanger sequencing tests, which may assist in molecular testing for clinical diagnosis and epidemiological investigations of B19V.

Abstract:Human parvovirus B19 (HPVB19) belongs to Parvoviridae, a genus of erythrovirus, and has been associated with various human diseases, and HPVB19 infection is one of the most important causes of refractory anemia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). This study retrospectively analyzed 24 patients with HSCT combined with HPVB19 infection to collate and summarize the clinical presentation, treatment, and regression of patients with combined HPVB19 infection after allo-HSCT and provide experience in the management of HPVB19 infection after allo-HSCT. The median age of the patients with HPVB19 infection was 25 years, and the median time of infection occurrence was +107 days after transplantation, and 22 (91.7% ) had anemia with a median hemoglobin (HGB) level of 77.5 (46-149) g/L, and 13 (54.2% ) had new-onset anemia or persistent decline in HGB. The median length of hospital stay was 19 days. Among patients with new-onset anemia or persistent decline in HGB, the mean increase in HGB after treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin and/or antiviral therapy was 15.69 g/L, and treatment was effective in 10 (76.92% ) patients. HPVB19 infection should be alerted to the development of refractory anemia after HSCT; despite the lack of specific treatment, the overall prognosis of HPVB19-infected patients is good.

Abstract:Background: With the improvement of immunosuppressive regimens, the success rate and availability of ABO-incompatible (ABO-i) kidney transplantation (KT) have gradually increased. However, the management of immunosuppression protocols and complications associated with ABO-i KT is complex. Here, we report a clinical case of ABO-i living donor KT with allograft dysfunction caused by acute blood group antibody-dependent rejection triggered by human parvovirus B19 (B19V). Case report: The ABO blood group of the recipient was O, and that of the donor was B. The recipient had high baseline anti-B antibody titers (IgM, 1:1024; IgG, 1:64). Before transplantation, he completed a desensitization protocol comprising plasma exchange, double-filtration plasmapheresis, and rituximab, which maintained a low blood group antibody level and resulted in successful transplantation. Two weeks after surgery, the recipient developed a B19V infection combined with acute T-cell-mediated rejection. After the anti-rejection regimen, acute rejection (AR) was successfully reversed, but B19V persisted. One week after AR stabilization, the patient experienced acute antibody-mediated rejection that was more severe and refractory, resulting in the loss of the transplanted kidney. Conclusion: Desensitization combined with immunosuppressants can lead to overimmunosuppression and cause various infections. Infections could break the accommodation state of the patient, thereby inducing AR and resulting in the loss of the transplanted kidney.

Abstract:Each of the articles in this month’s journal touches in one way or another on important issues facing academic medicine. The five by Korshum, Souba, Longnecker, Bunton, Mitsch, and colleagues should be of particular interest to academic medicine’s leaders, since they discuss the administration and management of the mission-related activities of academic health centers (AHCs). Two additional articles— one by Klasko and Ekarius, the other by Calvin—are also noteworthy, since the authors recount what happened when their institutions dealt with crisis situations. These case studies provide important lessons about the kinds of challenges that academic medicine’s leaders will continue to face.
Human parvovirus B19 in solid organ transplantation: Guidelines from the American society of transplantation infectious diseases community of practice

Abstract:Clinical manifestations of human parvovirus B19 infection can vary widely and may be atypical in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. However, disease is apparent when there is destruction of erythrocyte progenitor cells leading to severe acute or chronic anemia with lack of an appropriate reticulocyte response in the setting of active parvovirus B19 infection. Serology may not reliably establish the diagnosis. High‐level viremia is more likely to be associated with symptomatic disease. Conversely, ongoing DNAemia after infection may not be clinically significant, if detected at low levels. Despite lack of robust data, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is frequently used for the treatment of SOT recipients with symptomatic parvovirus B19 infection. Although the optimal dosage and duration of IVIG is not known, most patients receive a total of 2 g/kg over a period of 2‐5 days. A daily dose of 1 g/kg or more seems to be associated with higher incidence of toxicity. Application of standard and droplet isolation precautions remains the cornerstone for preventing human parvovirus B19 transmission. Additional research is needed to assess the efficacy of current and novel therapies and to develop a safe and effective parvovirus B19 vaccine.

Incidence, Distribution and Clinical Relevance of Microbial Contamination of Preservation Solution in Deceased Kidney Transplant Recipients: a Retrospective Cohort Study from China.

Abstract:Objectives: To determine whether microbial contamination of preservation solution (PS) in kidney transplantation is associated with donor-derived infections (DDIs). Methods: We retrospectively analysed data from 1077 deceased kidney transplant recipients of 560 donors. In all, 1002 PS samples were collected for microbiological assessment to establish the incidence and distribution of contamination. Comparisons between patients with contaminated PS and those with sterile PS were performed to assess the impact of microbial contaminations in perfusate on probable donor-derived infections (p-DDIs), and potential risk factors for p-DDIs were examined. Results: The contamination rate of PS was 77.8% (402/517). Bacterial species accounted for 85.6% (887/1036) of the total 1036 isolated microorganisms and 26.5% (275/1002) of the recipients' PS were contaminated by ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp.). Enterococcus predominated the microbiological pattern. The incidence of infection was significantly higher in patients with microbial contamination than in patients with sterile PS (13.8% (107/776) versus 7.1% (16/226), p 0.006). The prevalence of p-DDIs was significantly higher in patients with ESKAPE contamination than in patients with other bacterial contamination in PS (7.2% (18/251) versus 1.0% (4/405), p 0.000). Univariate analysis indicated that ESKAPE contamination increased the risk of p-DDIs (p 0.001, OR 3.610, 95% CI 1.678-7.764). Multivariate analysis determined ESKAPE contamination as the only independent risk factor associated with p-DDIs (OR 3.418, 95% CI 1.580-7.393). Conclusions: The high rate of microbial contaminations in PS is unusual and probably due to poor surgical procedures. Patients whose PS are contaminated by ESKAPE pathogens could have a significantly increased risk of p-DDIs at early post-transplantation. Abstract:A core component of every blood program is the supply of safe blood and blood products. The elevated risk of transmission through these products is due to parvovirus B19 (B19V) resistance to the virus inactivation procedures. Our study aimed to screen asymptomatic blood donors for B19V at a tertiary care hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, between September 2020 and June 2021. Sera from 106 healthy blood donors who tested negative for Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), syphilis, and malaria were tested for anti-B19V IgM and IgG using a qualitative indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In the study population, 23.5% (n = 25) of donors tested IgM positive, 38.6% (n = 41) tested IgG positive, and 7.5% (n = 8) tested positive for both IgM and IgG. A proportion of 61.3% (n = 65) of the blood donors tested IgG negative, suggesting they had no past B19V infection. B19V DNA was not detected in any of the subjects. The high seroprevalence of IgM indicates that blood donors may have been recently exposed to B19V, potentially posing a risk to immunocompromised individuals and those with hematological stress. Further longitudinal studies with a larger sample size are recommended to better understand the risk of B19V transfusion transmission.
