Abstract:Clinical Rehabilitation, Ahead of Print. ObjectiveTo report the treatment effects of early use kinesiotaping on pain, range of motion, mobility, and edema outcomes following total knee arthroplasty.Data SourcesCochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMED, SPORTDiscus, Biosis Citation Index, and the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature were searched for potential randomized control trials from inception to 8 January 2024.Review MethodsRandomized control trials evaluating the effect of kinesiotaping published in English were included. Reference lists for relevant reviews were searched. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool. Certainty of evidence was determined using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach.ResultsSeven articles totaling 534 participants were included for meta-analysis. Kinesiotaping with standard rehabilitation when compared to standard rehabilitation alone had very low certainty of evidence in pain and knee flexion range of motion. Kinesiotaping was favored at post-operative days two to four for pain (P = 0.03, standard mean difference = −0.77 [−1.45, −0.09]) and range of motion (P = 0.002, standard mean difference = −0.24 [−0.44, −0.03]). Kinesiotaping was favored at post-operative days six to eight for pain (P = 0.02, standard mean difference = −0.76 [−1.41, −0.12]) and range of motion (P = 0.04, standard mean difference = −0.63 [−1.22, −0.04]). Edema and mobility could not be meta-analyzed.ConclusionThe use of kinesiotaping early in post-operative rehabilitation could be a useful modality for reducing pain and increasing the range of knee flexion, however, the certainty of evidence is very low.

Abstract:Introduction: To control edema, physical therapy employs several techniques, such as elastic bandages application - Kinesio tape (KT) - to block or drain subcutaneous body fluids, due to the secondary effects of its elastic properties. Objective: To evaluate the effect kinesio tape application on the lymphatic system during knee arthroscopy surgery. Methods: Controlled clinical trial, with 28 patients, alternately divided into two groups (intervention and control) referred to arthroscopic surgical treatment of anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injuries. Patients were evaluated in the preoperative and, on the 1st postoperative day, while the intervention group received KT application for the lymphatic system in the intraoperative period. Results: The intervention group showed statistically significant results in the non-formation of edema, according to perimetric (Point 2: p=0.010, Point 3: p≤0.001 and Point 4: p≤0.001) and ultrasound (p=0.007) analyses when compared to the control group. On the other hand, pain (p=0.056) did not present a significant difference, but in the intragroup comparison pre and postoperative, a considerable reduction (p=0.002) was observed. Conclusion: KT application for the lymphatic system in the intraoperative period of knee arthroscopy effectively minimized edema formation and reduced pain.

However, in terms of the development of methods, routing in a cross-country environment is more difficult, and hence research into it has been relatively scarce. This is particularly true in the context of complex routing problems involving visits to several locations. A typical example of a problem of this kind is field inventory, which is a data collection procedure used in many application areas, particularly those related to environmental research and the management of natural resources. This study presents a problem in which an efficient inventory route is determined for an areal object, such that the area visible from the route meets a prescribed threshold, while maintaining the shortest possible route. Although this problem, referred to here as the Areal Inventory Problem (AIP), is closely related to a multitude of routing and location allocation methods known in the context of GIS, none of them is very well-suited for solving the AIP. This study describes a general solution procedure for the AIP, and introduces an implementation of a heuristic algorithm that can be used to solve a real-world AIP within a reasonable time frame. The proposed approach is demonstrated with actual data related to field inventory practices carried out by the Finnish Forest Centre.
The effectiveness of Kinesio Taping in improving pain and edema during early rehabilitation after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Prospective, Randomized, Control Study

Abstract:Background and aim: The Kinesio Taping (KT) is being increasingly applied in physical therapy and rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of KT on an early rehabilitation program, in combination with the standard protocol after ACL reconstruction (ACLR). Methods: This study enrolled 52 male patients, aged 18 to 45 years, who underwent ACLR with doubled gracilis and semitendinosus tendon (DGST) autograft. The patients were randomized into 2 groups: Group A (the control group) which received a standard rehabilitation protocol, and Group B (the experimental group), which had the same rehabilitation protocol plus the KT application. Pain intensity, range of motion, edema, thigh circumference, Tegner-Lysholm Scale and KOOS scale were measured at the second and fourth week follow-ups. Results: Patients in the experimental group showed significant results during the second week for both pain and edema reduction compared to the control group (p< 0.05). After 4 weeks of rehabilitation, pain intensity in the two groups was similar (n.s.), while edema reduction in the experimental group showed a significant result compared to the control group (p< 0.05). Nevertheless, the other outcomes did not show significant differences. Conclusions: The application of KT after ACLR contributed to relieve pain and reduce edema in the early postoperative rehabilitation period. Other potential benefits of KT on muscle activation and strength should be investigated through a longer follow-up and a targeted test.
Effect of Kinesiology Tape on Muscle Activation of Lower Extremity and Ankle Kinesthesia in Individuals With Unilateral Chronic Ankle Instability

Abstract:Background: The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of kinesiology tape (KT) on lower limb muscle activation during computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) tasks and ankle kinesthesia in individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Methods: Thirty-five men with CAI participated in this study. The experimental procedure followed a repeated measures design. Muscle activation of lower extremity and ankle kinesthesia of participants were measured using four taping treatments, namely, KT, athletic tape (AT), sham tape (ST), and no tape (NT) in a randomized order. Muscle activation was assessed using surface electromyography (sEMG) synchronized with CDP tests from seven lower extremity muscles of the unstable limb. Ankle kinesthesia was measured by using a threshold to detect the passive motion direction of the unstable ankle. Parameters were analyzed by using a one-way repeated measures ANOVA and followed by pairwise comparisons with a Bonferroni correction. Results: No significant difference was observed among different taping treatments for the majority of parameters during CDP. Except for condition 4 with open eyes, sway-referenced surface, and fixed surround in the sensory organization test (SOT), gastrocnemius medialis root mean square (RMS) was 28.19% lower in AT compared with NT ( p = 0.021, 95% CI = 0.002–0.039), while gastrocnemius lateralis RMS was 20.25% lower in AT compared with KT ( p = 0.038, 95% CI = 0.000–0.021). In forward-small sudden translation from motor control test (MCT), for peroneal longus (PL), RMS was 24.04% lower in KT compared with ST ( p = 0.036, 95% CI = 0.000–0.018). In toes-down sudden rotation from adaption test (ADT), for PL, RMS was 23.41% lower in AT compared with ST ( p = 0.015, 95% CI = 0.002–0.027). In addition, no significant difference was observed for a threshold to the detection of passive motion direction among different taping treatments. Conclusion: This study indicated that KT had minimal effect on the muscle activation of the unstable lower limb during static stance, self-initiated, and externally triggered perturbation tasks from CDP and ankle kinesthesia among individuals with CAI, suggesting that the benefit of KT was too small to be clinically worthwhile during application for CAI.

Abstract:Purpose To determine the effects of Kinesio taping (KT) on the biomechanical characteristics of the lower limbs during the 90° cutting maneuver in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) athletes. Method Eighteen ACLR athletes were recruited and subjected randomly to three taping conditions, KT, placebo taping (PT), and no taping (NT), followed by a 90° cutting test. A nine-camera infrared high-speed motion capture system (Vicon, T40, 200 Hz) was used to record the kinematic parameters of the lower limbs during the cutting maneuver, and a three-dimensional dynamometer (Kistler, 1000 Hz) was used to record the kinetic parameters of the lower limbs. A one-way repeated measures analysis of variance was conducted to compare the differences in the lower limb kinematic and kinetic characteristics of ACLR athletes subjected to these interventions. Results During the landing phase, the knee valgus angle reduced significantly with KT than with NT (95% confidence interval = −1.399 to −0.154; P = 0.025), whereas no significant difference was observed between PT and NT (95% confidence interval = −1.251 to 0.217; P = 0.236). No significant differences were observed in the other kinematic variables among the three taping conditions ( P > 0.05). During the landing phase, no significant differences in the kinetic variables were observed among the three taping conditions ( P > 0.05). Conclusions Although KT does not improve the kinetic variables of athletes after ACLR during the 90° cutting maneuver, it reduces the knee valgus angle, which could reduce the risk of secondary ACL injury.

Abstract:Abstract Background Anterior cruciate ligament trauma is one of the most common knee injuries in professional athletes. This study aimed to investigate the effects of kinesio taping on kinesiophobia, balance, and functional performance in athletes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Methods This randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial was performed on 20 athletes with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (mean age 32.3 ± 6.2 years) at the time of return to sport. The subjects were randomly assigned to the kinesio tape (KT) group ( n = 10) or placebo KT group ( n = 10). While subjects under taped, the following outcomes were measured at baseline, 10 minutes after the intervention, and 2 days later. Kinesiophobia, balance, strength, and functional / agility performance were assessed by the Tampa Scale, Y balance test (YBT), single-leg hops, and 10-yard extremity functional test, respectively. Results The results did not show a significant difference between-group post-intervention differences in kinesiophobia (Mean between-group difference = − 6.30, 95% CI = − 4.35 to 1.42, P -value = 0.17). Likewise, no significant statistical difference was observed between two study groups in terms of YBT scores (Mean between-group difference ranged over = − 6.30, 95% CI = − 1.1 to 4.7, the effect sizes ranged over = 0.01 to 0.31), P -value > 0.05), Single Leg Hop (Mean between-group difference = − 0.48, 95% CI for difference ranged over = − 10.3 to 9.3, effect size = 0.001, P -value = 0.918), and 10 Yard test scores (Mean between-group difference = − 0.30, 95% CI = (− 1.3 to 0.75), effect size = 0.02, P -value = 0.55) at 2 days after the KT. In the KT and placebo KT groups, RMANOVA indicated that the differences in all variables scores were significant over time with large effect sizes (effect size ranged over = 0.94–0.99; all P -value < 0.001). Conclusion This study gives no support for any beneficial effect of kinesio taping on the reduction of kinesiophobi or improvement of balance score and functional performance in athletes with post anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Trial registration This study was registered in the Iranian Clinical Trial Center with the code IRCT20190130042556N1 , registered 12 February 2019.

Abstract:Purpose The aim of the study was to analyze the effects of functional or biomechanical bandages, whether elastic or inelastic, in Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI). Methods This review used PubMed, WoS, SCOPUS, and CINAHL following PRISMA and registering in Prospero. Main PICOS: (1) CAI; (2) intervention, functional/biomechanical bandages; (3) comparison, taping effect versus placebo/no taping, or another functional taping; (4) outcomes, improvement of CAI functionality (dynamic/static balance, ankle kinematic, perception, agility and motor control, endurance and strength; (5) experimental and preexperimental studies. The meta-analyses considered mean and s.d. of the results per variable; effect size (ES) of each study and for each type of intervention. Homogeneity (Q), heterogeneity (H 2 and I 2), and 95% CI were calculated. Results In total, 28 studies were selected. Significant differences were found for dynamic balance (66.66%) and static balance (87.5%), ankle kinematics (75.00%), perceptions (88.88%), plantar flexor strength (100%), muscle activity (66.6%), endurance (100%), functional performance (100%), and gait (66.6%). The main results of meta-analyses (eight studies) are as follows – h/M ratio soleus, ES: 0.080, 95% CI: −5.219–5.379; h/M ratio peroneus, ES: 0.070, 95% CI: −6.151–6.291; posteromedial KT, ES: 0.042 95% CI: −0.514–0.598; posteromedial—overall, ES: −0.006 95% CI: −1.071–0.819; mSEBT-KT, ES: 0.057 95% CI: −0.281–0.395; mSEBT—overall, ES: −0.035 95% CI: −0.190–0.590. Conclusions All biomechanical or functional bandages, whether elastic or inelastic, applied in CAI were favorable, highlighting patient perception, dynamic and static balance, kinematics and agility and motor control, for its effectiveness and evidence. Thus, bandages increase ankle functionality. The meta-analyses found no statistical significance. Clinically, soleus muscle activity, h-reflex/M-responses using fibular reposition with rigid tape, and dynamic balance with combined kinesiotaping during the modified star excursion balance test and with the posteromedial direction found improvements. Abstract:Controlling early symptoms following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is critical for long-term outcomes.The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and Kinesio Taping®(KT) applications in terms of reducing lower extremity edema, pain, and improving function in the early postoperative period of TKA.Forty-five female patients with unilateral TKA were allocated to an additional postoperative MLD treatment (n = 15) with exercises, additional Kinesio Taping® (n = 15) with exercises, or exercise-only (n = 15). Lower limb circumference, range of motion (ROM), pain level, and knee osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) were compared.Both MLD (p < .001; effect size range = 0.65–0.87) and the KT group (p = .001; effect size range = 0.74–0.78) had lower edema and pain levels (MLD group: p < .001; effect size = 0.84; KT group: p < .001; effect size = 0.78) compared to the control group on postoperative day 4. These beneficial effects continued only two weeks postoperatively, and no group differences were found by six weeks.Additional MLD or KT applications to standard exercises were both effective on early-stage lower extremity edema and pain levels. Clinicians might implement one of these applications to the standard rehabilitation programs to control pain and edema following TKA.

Is Kinesio Taping Effective for Sport Performance and Ankle Function of Athletes with Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI)? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Background and Objectives: Ankle injuries are the most common type of injury in healthy active individuals. If not treated properly, recurrent sprains can lead to a condition of chronic ankle instability (CAI). The aim of the present review is to evaluate the effects of Kinesio Taping (or KT) on sports performances and ankle functions in athletes with CAI. Materials and Methods: This systematic review with meta-analysis was carried out following the criteria of the Prisma Statement system (registered on Open Science Framework, number: 10.17605/OSF.IO/D8QN5). For the selection of the studies, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science were used as databases in which the following string was used: (“kinesiology tape” OR “tape” OR “taping” OR “elastic taping” OR “kinesio taping” OR “neuro taping”) AND (unstable OR instability) AND (ankle OR (ankle OR “ankle sprain” OR “injured ankle” OR “ankle injury”)). The Downs and Black Scale was used for the quality analysis. The outcomes considered were gait functions, ROM, muscle activation, postural sway, dynamic balance, lateral landing from a monopodalic drop and agility. Effect sizes (ESs) were synthesised as standardized mean differences between the control and intervention groups. Calculation of the 95% confidence interval (CI) for each ES was conducted according to Hedges and Olkin. Results: In total, 1448 articles were identified and 8 studies were included, with a total of 270 athletes. The application of the tape had a significant effect size on gait functions, ROM, muscle activation and postural sway. Conclusions: The meta-analysis showed a significant improvement in gait functions (step velocity, step and stride length and reduction in the base of support in dynamics), reduction in the joint ROM in inversion and eversion, decrease in the muscle activation of the long peroneus and decrease in the postural sway in movement in the mid-lateral direction. It is possible to conclude that KT provides a moderate stabilising effect on the ankles of the athletes of most popular contact sports with CAI.
Immediate Effect of Lower-Leg Kinesio Taping on Ankle Dorsiflexion and Gait Parameters in Chronic Stroke with Foot Drop

Abstract:Objective: Kinesio taping (KT) and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) are interventions mainly used in clinical settings to improve gait after stroke. Lower-leg KT using the concept of PNF (PNF-KT) has been shown to enhance the recovery of gait speed in patients with stroke. But, the effect of PNF-KT on the ankle movement and gait parameters in stroke patients is unclear. We aimed to investigate the immediate effects of PNF-KT on ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (DF-ROM) and gait parameters in patients with stroke with foot drop. Materials and methods: For the A-KT condition, tape was attached to the gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscles, and tape for eversion was attached. In the PNF-KT condition, tape was attached to the tibialis anterior, extensor hallucis and digitorum muscles. Ankle movement was measured as the ankle DF-ROM using an iSEN system. Gait ability was assessed using the GAITRite system. The measured gait variables were gait velocity, cadence, and step length (both sides). Results: A-KT and PNF-KT significantly improved the ankle DF-ROM, gait velocity, cadence, and the affected- and unaffected-side step length compared to that with no taping. Moreover, PNF-KT significantly increased the ankle DF-ROM, gait velocity, cadence, and the affected- and unaffected-side step length compared to that with A-KT. Conclusions: PNF-KT applied to the affect side improved ankle DF-ROM and gait parameters in hemiplegic stroke patients than no taping, A-KT. Lower-leg PNF-KT may be a useful intervention in a rehabilitation program to improve ankle DF-ROM and gait parameters in chronic stroke patients with foot drop in clinical settings.

Abstract:Stroke patients often have muscles spasticity, difficulty with posture control, and tend to fall. This study investigated the use of kinesiology tape for patients with spasticity of ankle muscles after stroke. This study had a randomized, repeated measures design, and evaluated the immediate effect of kinesiology tape on the center of pressure (COP) excursion when applied to the calf and tibialis anterior muscles in stroke survivors. We determined that the taping attachment direction affects the COP movement. Twenty subjects were randomly assigned to the tibialis anterior taping condition, calf taping condition, or nontaping condition. Condition excursion was assessed. The measured variables included the paretic side area, nonparetic side area, forward area, and backward area of COP. All evaluations were conducted immediately after taping. COP excursion for chronic stroke survivors improved after tibialis anterior and calf taping (p < 0.05). Calf taping conditions increased significantly in the forward area (p < 0.05), and tibialis anterior taping conditions increased significantly in the backward area (p < 0.05). Kinesiology tape immediately increased the forward and backward COP excursion for patients with stroke.

The following were used as inclusion criteria: (1) skeletally mature adult patients 18 years of age or older, (2) displaced fractures of tibial diaphysis (OTA type 42) treated with operative intervention, and (3) radiographs, including injury, operative, and completion of follow-up. Sixty-eight patients with 70 tibial shaft fractures completed follow-up.INTERVENTION: All patients were treated with locked IM nailing. Patients were randomized to 1 of 2 groups: immediate weight-bearing-as-tolerated (WBAT) or non-weight-bearing for the first 6 postoperative weeks (NWB).MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Fracture union or treatment failure/revision surgery.RESULTS: There was no statistical difference in the observed time to union between groups (WBAT = 22.1 ± 11.7 weeks vs. NWB = 21.3 ± 9.9 weeks; P = 0.76). Rates of complications did not statistically differ between groups. No fracture loss of reduction leading to malunion was encountered. Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment scores for all domains did not statistically differ between groups.CONCLUSIONS: Immediate weight-bearing after IM nailing of tibial shaft fractures is safe and is not associated with an increase in adverse events or complications. Patients should be allowed to bear weight as tolerated after IM nailing of OTA subtype 42-A and 42-B tibial shaft fractures.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic Level I. Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the Kinesio tape in the treatment of patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) by meta-analysis. Methods: Two investigators independently conducted an electronic literature search to assess the outcomes of intramuscular patches for PFPS. Electronic databases included PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Wanfang Database, Chinese Journal Full Text Database (CNKI), and Wipo Database from November 2023. Extracted inclusion indicators included pain score VAS or NRS, knee function assessment knee pain syndrome (Kujala) score, and knee symptom score Lysholm knee score scale. Data were extracted and then meta-analyzed using Review Manager 5.3 software and Stata 17.0 software. Result: Fourteen studies were included, all of which were randomized controlled studies. The results showed that short-term pain relief was superior in the Kinesio tape (KT) group compared with the control group, with a statistically significant difference in the results (MD = −1.54, 95% CI [−2.32, −0.76], P = .0001); medium-term pain relief was superior in the KT group compared with the control group, with a statistically significant difference in the results (MD = −0.84, 95% CI [−1.50, −0.18], P = .01); long-term pain relief in the KT group was better than the control group, with statistically different results (MD = −0.56, 95% CI [−0.98, −0.13], P < .00001). In contrast, there was no significant difference between the KT group and the control group in the assessment of knee function (MD = −0.98, 95% CI [−4.03, 2.06], P = .03), and there was no significant difference between the KT group and the control group in the Lysholm knee score scale score of knee symptoms (MD = 4.18, 95% CI [−6.70, 15.05], P = .45). Conclusion: Kinesio taping can effectively relieve the pain of PFPS, but has no significant effect on the improvement of knee joint function and symptoms.

Abstract:Background: Low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of lost productivity, absenteeism, disability, and early retirement worldwide. LBP treatment should be comprehensive, including prevention, education, diagnosis, and various treatment methods. Management can be divided into pharmacological and non-pharmacological. The role of physiotherapy in the comprehensive treatment of LBP is very important. Elastic therapeutic tape, also called kinesiology tape or therapeutic kinesiology tape, has been used for about 50 years. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Kinesio taping in patients suffering from (LBP), and its possible effect on the swing of the center of pressure (COP), balance, gait, improvement of coordination, and pain reduction. Methods: A total of 60 patients aged 20 to 83 years (54% women) were examined, all of whom fulfilled the requirements for admission and rejection. The L1–L5 spine of the experimental group underwent Kinesio taping in addition to thorough rehabilitation. The control group underwent balance control training based on visual feedback (VFB). The research tools used included the Bohannon single-leg standing test, the FAC (Functional Ambulatory Category) scale, the Podsiadlo and Richardson Standing and Walking Test called "Timed Up and Go" (TUG), evaluation of lumbar spine movement, Lasegue's test and examination of neurological deficit symptoms, and self-assessment of pain using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results: The effects of Kinesio taping on pain, gait, coordination, postural control, and balance are statistically significant. The main parameter influencing the effects of Kinesio taping was age (below 55 years); this relationship was also observed in the control group. Conclusions: Kinesio taping is an effective method in the treatment of LBP. It improves postural control, balance, gait, coordination, and pain.

[Relationship between degree of white matter damage and EEG changes in premature infants early after birth].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To study the relationship between the degree of white matter damage and changes in brain function in premature infants early after birth according to amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) and raw EEG (with burst-suppression patterns). METHODS Thirty-eight premature infants of less than 32 weeks' gestational age and with white matter damage, including 20 cases of mild white matter damage and 18 cases of severe white matter damage, were included in the study. Forty-two premature infants without white matter damage were selected as a control group. After birth, they were examined using aEEG and brain ultrasound once a week until four weeks after birth or a corrected gestational age of 32 weeks. The white matter damage and control groups were compared in terms of aEEG patterns and amplitudes and burst suppression ratio (BSR) on EEG. RESULTS The white matter damage and control groups had highly discontinuous patterns and had no complete sleep cycles. The lower amplitude was significantly smaller in the severe white matter damage subgroup than in the mild white matter damage subgroup and control group. There was alternating burst-suppression activity on the raw EEG in the white matter damage and control groups; and the severe white matter damage subgroup had a significantly longer suppression time and a significantly higher BSR on EEG compared with the mild white matter damage subgroup and control group. CONCLUSIONS Brain function monitoring should be performed in premature infants with white matter damage early after birth so as to detect cases of severe white matter damage in time.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Rowing-related low back disorders may occur from inconsistent technique, high trunk flexion and training volumes, overactivation of paraspinal muscles, and fatigue. OBJECTIVE: To examine if kinesiology tape (KT) affixed to the trunk dorsum affects muscular co-activation and neuromuscular control to limit dangerous rowing movements and associated injuries. METHODS: Participants (n= 18) completed two 2000 m rowing trials under BASELINE and KT conditions. KT was applied to the skin superficial to the paraspinals bilaterally with 60% pre-strain. Participants were instructed to minimize any sensation of tension. Whole body kinematics were obtained using inertial measurement units (IMUs), and surface electromyograms (EMGs) were recorded from trunk and lower extremity. Changes in joint range-of-motion (ROM) and co-activation indices (CAIs) were analyzed for shoulder, lumbar, hip, and knee. RESULTS: Responding participants (n= 5) were identified by reduced maximum lumbar flexion during the KT condition. As expected, significant differences occurred in maximum and minimum lumbar flexion/extension between responders and non-responders to KT. Additionally, there was significant reduction in mean trunk muscle co-activation in both those who did and did not respond to KT through reductions in maximum lumbar flexion. CONCLUSION: KT can be an effective at reducing mean trunk co-activation during a rowing trial in the flexed catch position. Variable responses suggest that further work is necessary to optimize the efficacy of sensory cues derived from KT during rowing movements.
