Abstract:Trajectory tracking of uncertain time-delay linear systems by output feedback control is of theoretical importance and practical value. In this paper, concentrating on a class of linear plants whose relative degree equals to system dimension, we develop a Lyapunov-based control scheme to achieve trajectory tracking despite some classic difficulties including unmeasurable system state, unknown plant parameters and unknown input time-delay. A comprehensive approach combining adaptive backstepping output feedback with prediction-based boundary control is employed in the design. The stability analysis exhibits the global boundedness of all closed-loop system signals and the tracking performance is also guaranteed.

Abstract:An asymptotic tracking control law is proposed for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinearities. A Barrier Lyapunov function in combination with backstepping is proposed to guarantee that the output trajectory is contained in a predefined set. A single neural network (NN), whose weights are tuned online, is utilized in our design to approximate the unknown functions in the system dynamics, while the singularity problem of the control gain function is avoided. Meanwhile, in order to compensate for the NN residual reconstruction error and system uncertainties, a robust term is introduced and asymptotic tracking stability is achieved. All the signals in the closed-loop system are proved to be bounded via Lyapunov synthesis and the output converges to the desired trajectory asymptotically without transgressing a given bound. Finally, the merits of the proposed controller are verified in the simulation environment.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the cooperative tracking problem for a class of nonlinear uncertain networked systems subject to an active leader, whose state can merely be partially measured and input channel is disturbed as well. By virtue of neural network (NN) technique, the dynamics of followers are properly modeled on certain basis functions and their input channels are assumed to be disturbed as well. In this work, an observer-based adaptive control is proposed for the nonlinear networked systems which may have non-identical dynamics. It is shown via Lyapunov theory that the overall system is cooperatively uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) by appropriately choosing the parameters under some graph condition. In the end, several numerical simulations are elaborated for validation of the proposed adaptive controller.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel adaptive control strategy is presented for the tracking control of a class of multi-input-multioutput uncertain nonlinear systems with external disturbances to place user-defined time-varying constraints on the system state. Our contribution includes a step forward beyond the usual stabilization result to show that the states of the plant converge asymptotically, as well as remain within user-defined time-varying bounds. To achieve the new results, an error transformation technique is first established to generate an equivalent nonlinear system from the original one, whose asymptotic stability guarantees both the satisfaction of the time-varying restrictions and the asymptotic tracking performance of the original system. The uncertainties of the transformed system are overcome by an online neural network (NN) approximator, while the external disturbances and NN reconstruction error are compensated by the robust integral of the sign of the error signal. Via standard Lyapunov method, asymptotic tracking performance is theoretically guaranteed, and all the closed-loop signals are bounded. The requirement for a prior knowledge of bounds of uncertain terms is relaxed. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the merits of the proposed controller.

Abstract:The adaptive asymptotic tracking control problem for a class of stochastic non-strict-feedback switched nonlinear systems is addressed in this paper. For the unknown continuous functions, some neural networks are used to approximate them online, and the dynamic surface control (DSC) technique is employed to develop the novel adaptive neural control scheme with the nonlinear filter. The proposed controller ensures that all the closed-loop signals remain semiglobally bounded in probability, at the same time, the output signal asymptotically tracks the desired signal in probability. Finally, a simulation is made to examine the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:This paper investigates the H ∞ trajectory tracking control for a class of nonlinear systems with time-varying delays by virtue of Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory and the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. A unified model consisting of a linear delayed dynamic system and a bounded static nonlinear operator is introduced, which covers most of the nonlinear systems with bounded nonlinear terms, such as the one-link robotic manipulator, chaotic systems, complex networks, the continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR), and the standard genetic regulatory network (SGRN). First, the definition of the tracking control is given. Second, the H ∞ performance analysis of the closed-loop system including this unified model, reference model, and state feedback controller is presented. Then criteria on the tracking controller design are derived in terms of LMIs such that the output of the closed-loop system tracks the given reference signal in the H ∞ sense. The reference model adopted here is modified to be more flexible. A scaling factor is introduced to deal with the disturbance such that the control precision is improved. Finally, a CSTR system is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the established control laws.

Abstract:In this article, the tracking control problems of the nonlinear nonstrict-feedback systems are considered. By combining the backstepping technique and bound estimation method, a novel nonlinear adaptive asymptotical control law is proposed, which offsets the effect of the unknown virtual control parameters and the uncertain nonlinearities. Correspondingly, an improved Lyapunov function by introducing the lower bounds of control parameters has been devised in this article. Compared with the existing adaptive tracking control schemes, the controller designed in this article can guarantee that the tracking control error converges to zero asymptotically and all the signals which contain the state variables and the adaptive laws are bounded. Moreover, the asymptotic stability of the system is realized for the first time. Finally, simulation examples are applied to test and prove the availability of the presented methods and the performance of the controlled system.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic tracking control for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinear functions and output constraint. The nonlinear transformation function-based system transformation approach is employed to convert the initial constrained system into an unconstrained one. To achieve the objective of asymptotic tracking, the tracking error is scaled by an exponential proportional function. Furthermore, to address the challenge of repetitive derivation of virtual control laws that occurs in the traditional design process of high-order backstepping methods, a first-order filter is applied. The designed control scheme guarantees that the system output will asymptotically track a predefined reference tracking trajectory while ensuring that the output constraint is not violated. Moreover, it is shown that the filter error will converge asymptotically to the origin. The effectiveness of the developed control strategy is verified through simulation results.

Abstract:In this article, the adaptive tracking control issue is addressed for uncertain switched nonstrict‐feedback nonlinear systems with unknown time‐varying delay and backlash‐like hysteresis under neural networks (NNs) estimation framework. In contrast to most existing results of nonlinear systems with time‐delay, the time‐varying delay we consider depends entirely on the number of switching subsystems. Based on the inherent properties of radial basis function NNs, the nonstrict‐feedback structure is effectively compensated. Meanwhile, with the help of the combination of Razumikhin function method, adaptive backstepping scheme, and dynamic surface control approach, the quadratic common Lyapunov function is established for all subsystems, and then an adaptive common control strategy is developed. For arbitrary switching signals, it is shown that all the signals in the closed‐loop system can be remained bounded and the system output can follow a desired signal under the designed controller. Finally, the validity of the presented strategy is verified via two simulation examples.

Abstract:This article addresses the adaptive neural tracking control problem for a class of uncertain stochastic nonlinear systems with nonstrict-feedback form and prespecified tracking accuracy. Some radial basis function neural networks (RBF NNs) are used to approximate the unknown continuous functions online, and the desired controller is designed via the adaptive dynamic surface control (DSC) method and the gain suppressing inequality technique. Different from the reported works on uncertain stochastic systems, by combining some non-negative switching functions and dynamic surface method with the nonlinear filter, the design difficulty is overcome, and the control performance is analyzed by employing stochastic Barbalat's lemma. Under the constructed controller, the tracking error converges to the accuracy defined a priori in probability. The simulation results are shown to verify the availability of the presented control scheme.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of globally stable direct adaptive backstepping neural network (NN) tracking control design for a class of uncertain strict-feedback systems under the assumption that the accuracy of the ultimate tracking error is given a priori. In contrast to the classical adaptive backstepping NN control schemes, this paper analyzes the convergence of the tracking error using Barbalat's Lemma via some nonnegative functions rather than the positive-definite Lyapunov functions. Thus, the accuracy of the ultimate tracking error can be determined and adjusted accurately a priori, and the closed-loop system is guaranteed to be globally uniformly ultimately bounded. The main technical novelty is to construct three new n th-order continuously differentiable functions, which are used to design the control law, the virtual control variables, and the adaptive laws. Finally, two simulation examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed control method.

Abstract:<p>In this paper, the adaptive asymptotic tracking control issue is addressed for uncertain switched nonlinear systems with nonstrict-feedback form under the dynamic surface control (DSC) framework. In contrast to most traditional control schemes that can only achieve bounded error tracking performances, the proposed control method in this paper can make the switched systems with unknown nonlinear functions achieve an asymptotic tracking performance. It is completed by introducing nonlinear filters with a compensation term to remove the boundary layer error stemming from using linear filters in the DSC process. Meanwhile, the approximation error caused by the use of radial basis function (RBF) neural networks (NNs) is compensated by an online updated parameter. Furthermore, the nonstrict-feedback form is handled by adopting the inherent properties of RBF NNs. Then, in terms of the backstepping technique and the common Lyapunov function (CLF) approach, the desired control law with only two adaptive laws is set up. Finally, the validity of the developed strategy is verified via simulation results.</p>

Abstract:This article is devoted to the adaptive asymptotic tracking for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. The presence of unknown time-varying parameters and uncertain disturbances makes the systems in question essentially different from those in the related works. By skillfully combining adaptive technique and command filter-based backstepping, a novel command filter adaptive tracking controller is successfully designed to achieve asymptotic tracking. The typical feature of the proposed controller lies in the introduction of a smooth function with positive integrable time-varying function, which makes the controller powerful enough to compensate the unknown time-varying parameters and uncertain disturbances. Remarkably, a novel Lyapunov function by incorporating the lower bounds of control gains is used to prove the stability of the closed-loop system. Compared with some existing command filter-based backstepping, the conditions on the virtual control coefficients and disturbances are relaxed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by a simulation example.

Abstract:This paper investigates an adaptive asymptotic tracking controller for uncertain nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems(NFNSs) with full-state constraints and unknown actuator failures. By constructing a class of new switched high-order barrier Lyapunov functions(BLFs) candidates to the backstepping design, the asymptotic tracking performance can be guaranteed, all states do not violate constraints. The neural networks(NNs) is used to handle the difficulties caused by the unknown nonlinearities, the event-triggered control law based on relative threshold method for reducing the communication load between the controller and actuator. The control scheme guarantees that all closed-loop signals of the system are bounded and the tracking error asymptotically approaches a pre-defined bound, no matter whether the actuators operate in normal or faulty modes and the number of actuator failures can be infinite. Finally, simulation results including numerical simulation and practical application simulation verify the feasibility of the control scheme.

By utilizing the auxiliary control signal and nonlinear state-dependent transformation (NSDT) to counteract the effect of input saturation and cope with full-state constraints, respectively, and then introducing lower and higher powers and Lyapunov–Krasovskii (L–K) functionals in control design together with the adaptive neural-networks (NNs) method, an adaptive neural tracking control design is provided without feasibility conditions. Abstract:This brief addresses the adaptive neural asymptotic tracking issue for uncertain non-strict feedback systems subject to full-state constraints. By introducing the significant nonlinear transformed function (NTF), the command filtered technology, and the boundary estimation method into control design, a novel command filtered backstepping adaptive controller is proposed. The proposed control scheme is able to not only deal with full-state constraints but also avoid the ``explosion of complexity'' issue. By means of a Lyapunov stability analysis, we prove that: 1) the tracking error asymptotically converges to zero; 2) all the variables in the controlled systems are bounded; and 3) all the states are constrained in the asymmetric predefined sets. Finally, a numerical simulation is used to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:This paper investigates the adaptive finite-time tracking control problem for a class of nonlinear full state constrained systems with time-varying delays and input saturation. Compared with the previously published work, the considered system involves unknown time-varying delays, asymmetric input saturation, and time-varying asymmetric full state constraints. To ensure the state constraint satisfaction, the appropriate time-varying asymmetric Barrier Lyapunov Functions and the backstepping technique are utilized. Meanwhile, the finite covering lemma and the radial basis function neural networks are employed to solve the unknown time-varying delays. The assumption that the time derivative of time-varying delay functions is required to be less than one in traditional Lyapunov–Krasovskii functionals is removed by the proposed method. Moreover, the asymmetric input saturation is handled by an auxiliary design system. Taking the norm of the neural network weight vector as an adaptive parameter, a novel adaptive finite-time tracking controller with minimal learning parameters is constructed. It is proved that the proposed controller can guarantee that all signals in the closed-loop system are bounded, all states are constrained within the predefined sets, and the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin in a finite time. Finally, a comparison study simulation is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed strategy. The simulation results show that our proposed strategy has good advantages of high tracking precision and disturbance rejection.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of adaptive constraint control for a class of uncertain nonlinear strict-feedback systems with full state constraints. Novel fuzzy logic-based adaptive adjustment techniques are adopted to help identify system uncertainties and unknown control coefficients. Then, a newly proposed nonlinear filter with adaptive parameter adjustment is employed to remove the complex calculation problem caused by repeated differentiation in the backstepping control design procedure. At the same time, the controller is constructed under the consideration that the state contains are not violated. Through the barrier Lyapunov theory analysis, the results that the system output signal tracks the desired trajectory and the tracking error converges to zero asymptotically are obtained. Finally, the numerical results of the comparative simulation verify the feasibility of the established control method.

Finite-Time Tracking Control for a Class of Uncertain Strict-Feedback Nonlinear Systems With State Constraints: A Smooth Control Approach

Abstract:This article is concerned with the finite-time tracking control problem for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems involving state constraints, unknown nonlinearities, and nonvanishing disturbances. Unlike the literature that mainly focuses on a C0 finite-time controller, in this article, a novel C1 smooth finite-time adaptive neural network (NN) controller is proposed by employing a smooth switch between the fractional and cubic form state feedback. The proposed controller not only avoids the singularity but also makes it possible to implement the dynamic surface control (DSC) technique. By applying the adaptive NN control technique, together with barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs) and a generalized first-order filter including both linear and fractional terms, the desired fast finite-time control performance of the closed-loop nonlinear systems can be guaranteed, and meanwhile, the state constraints are never violated. Under the proposed control scheme, the tracking control problems of nonlinear systems with output constraint and full-state constraints are, respectively, discussed. It is explicitly shown that all the internal error signals are driven to converge into small regions in a finite time. Finally, the effectiveness of the control scheme is also confirmed by the applications to the control of a second-order nonlinear system and an uncertain ship autopilot.

Abstract:This article discusses the adaptive fuzzy asymptotic tracking control for high-order nonlinear time-delay systems with full-state constraints. Fuzzy-logic systems and a separation principle are utilized to relax growth assumptions imposed on unknown nonlinearities. The adverse effect caused by unknown time delays is eliminated by choosing appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functionals. By integrating nonlinear-transformed functions with a key coordinate transformation into the control design and constructing a specific compact set on the initial values of system states, the desired trajectory and parameter estimates, it is rigorously proved that all closed-loop signals are semiglobally bounded, the fuzzy approximation is valid, the full-state constraints are not violated without feasibility conditions on virtual controllers, and asymptotic tracking is achieved. The effectiveness and advantages of this control scheme are confirmed by two examples including a single-link robotic system.
