Abstract:Mica and film capacitors dominate most of the high voltage applications. The combination of high voltage withstanding characteristics and their stability under most electrical and environmental stress conditions have favored these types of capacitors in many designs. Over the years, ceramic capacitors have been developed for high voltage applications that have been proven very reliable in these applications, but the early presentations of this product involved variations on the disk capacitor design. The traditional MLC (multilayer ceramic) capacitor has dominated low voltage applications (< 500 VDC) but continues to encroach into the high voltage applications beyond 500 V through 10 kV. Abstract:This review paper focuses on metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent–organic frameworks (COFs)‐based aerogels, which provide an extensive description of the synthetic strategies and structural features of MOF/COF‐based aerogels, along with their cutting‐edge applications in the realm of environmental remediation, gas storage and separation, sustainable energy‐water technology, energy storage and conversion. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent–organic frameworks (COFs)‐based aerogels are garnering significant attention owing to their unique chemical and structural properties. These materials harmoniously combine the advantages of MOFs and COFs—such as high surface area, customizable porosity, and varied chemical functionality—with the lightweight and structured porosity characteristic of aerogels. This combination opens up new avenues for advanced applications in fields where material efficiency and enhanced functionality are critical. This review provides a comparative overview of the synthetic strategies utilized to produce pristine MOF/COF aerogels as well as MOF/COF‐based hybrid aerogels, which are functionalized with molecular precursors and nanoscale materials. The versatility of these aerogels positions them as promising candidates for addressing complex challenges in environmental remediation, energy storage and conversion, sustainable water‐energy technologies, and chemical separations. Furthermore, this study discusses the current challenges and future prospects related to the synthesis techniques and applications of MOF/COF aerogels.

Abstract:Abstract Porous materials are widely studied for water purification and treatment as they can function as efficient adsorbents for harmful chemical wastes with their high specific surface areas. Among various types of porous materials, metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising adsorbents for organic pollutants although the general powder form of MOFs largely limits their recyclability in practical applications. Herein, highly crystalline MOF particles are incorporated into agarose (AG) to fabricate highly recyclable MOF aerogels. Along with greatly improved recyclability, these MOF aerogels also achieve eco‐friendliness and cost‐effectiveness because AG is highly abundant in nature and can be easily modified. Typically, MOF aerogels are synthesized by uniformly dispersing MOF particles into the AG solution. The resulting MOF aerogels show significantly improved efficiency for dye adsorption. It is believed that this fabrication method for the preparation of MOF aerogels is highly versatile and it can be extended to other types of MOFs for different applications including environmental remediation, energy storage and conversion, and sensing.

Abstract:Environmental pollution caused by organic effluents emitted by industry has become a worldwide issue and poses a serious threat to the public and the ecosystem. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), comprising metal-containing clusters and organic bridging ligands, are porous and crystalline materials, possessing fascinating shape and size-dependent properties such as high surface area, abundant active sites, well-defined crystal morphologies, and huge potential for surface functionalization. To date, numerous well designated MOFs have emerged as critical functional materials to solve the growing challenges associated with water environmental issues. Here we present the recent progress of MOF-based materials and their applications in the treatment of organic effluents. Firstly, several traditional and emerging synthesis strategies for MOF composites are introduced. Then, the structural and functional regulations of MOF composites are presented and analyzed. Finally, typical applications of MOF-based materials in treating organic effluents, including chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, and agricultural wastewaters are summarized. Overall, this review is anticipated to tailor design and regulation of MOF-based functional materials for boosting the performance of organic effluent remediation.

Abstract:In recent years, heavy metals and organic pollutants have become two major obstacles to maintaining the ecological environment. Thus, choosing efficient and environmentally friendly methods and materials to remediate heavy metals and organic pollution has become a hot research topic. Porous metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and their composites or derivatives can be used as ideal adsorbents and catalytic materials because of their unique structures and functions. This work reviews the research progress on MOF-based materials in the remediation of the water environment in the past decade. The MOF-based materials discussed here mainly include MOF composites obtained by fabrication and MOF derivatives obtained by pyrolysis. Both MOF composites and MOF derivatives are optimized materials that exhibit adsorption or catalytic performance superior to the pristine MOFs. Additionally, the interactions and mechanisms between the MOF-based materials and different heavy metals or organic pollutants are discussed in detail. Finally, some problems or defects of the MOF-based materials are also proposed considering the materials’ economic efficiency, stability and safety. There is still a long way forward for the real application of MOF-based materials. Further efforts are also needed to explore and expand the environmental remediation scope of MOF-based materials.

Abstract:Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline nanoporous coordination polymers made of metal ions and organic linkers. Aerogels are highly nanoporous amorphous polymers that can be organic, inorganic, or hybrid. Both of these unique materials have been extensively investigated in many laboratories around the world for a wide range of applications ranging from separations to catalysis, resulting in thousands of published articles in a wide variety of journals. MOF/aerogel composites (MOFACs) are a new class of nanostructured materials that are attracting increasing attention because of their favorable properties. The combination of the micro- and mesoporosities of MOFs with the meso- and macroporosities of aerogels makes MOFACs hierarchically multimodal porous materials. With their high surface areas and combined morphological, mechanical, physicochemical, and functional properties of both MOFs and aerogels, MOFACs have demonstrated outstanding performances in various applications. Herein we provide an overview of the techniques used to synthesize MOFACs in various shapes such as monoliths or particles based on incorporation of MOFs into the porous networks of aerogels along with literature examples. The synthesis of aerogel-supported metals and metal oxides using MOFACs as precursors is also described. Several applications of these composites are reviewed, including adsorption, separation, catalysis, energy conversion, and storage devices such as batteries and supercapacitors. Future prospects in synthesis techniques and applications are provided to address opportunities and challenges in the field of MOFACs.

Abstract:This review focuses on the recent progress of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOF‐based materials and their exploit in environmental applications, mainly including water treatment and gas storage and separation. Abstract:Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have extensively emerged as promising templates/precursors to prepare functional derivatives for various purposes because of their ultrahigh porosity, large specific surface area, and excellent user-configuration flexibility. Among these derivatives, MOFs-derived metal/carbon composites surmount the shortcomings of the individual components and produce synergistic effects, showing great potential in environmental remediation and energy storage and conversion. Herein, this work systematically discusses the synthetic strategies of MOFs-derived metal/carbon composites from the perspective of different MOF precursors, including pristine MOFs, heteroatom-doped MOFs, and MOFs composited with substrates. The unique advantages of MOFs-derived metal/carbon composites with exceptional stability, conductivity, and catalytic activity are then particularly summarized. On the basis of these advantages, their recent progress in the environment and energy fields is elaborated, with special emphasis on the elucidation of their mechanisms. Finally, the challenges and opportunities for future research are presented, which is expected to provide references for the design of multipurpose MOFs-derived metal/carbon composites.

Abstract:The ineffective control of the release of pollutants into water has led to serious water pollution. Compared with conditions in the past, the polluting components in aquatic environments have become increasingly complex. Some emerging substances have led to a new threat to the safety of water. Therefore, developing cost-effective technologies for the remediation of water pollution is urgently needed. Adsorption has been considered the most effective operational unit in water treatment processes and thus adsorption materials have gained wide attention. Among them, metal organic frameworks (denoted as MOFs) have been rapidly developed in recent years due to their unique physicochemical performance. They are characterized by larger porosity and larger specific surface area, easier pore structure designing, and comfortable structural modification. In many fields such as adsorption, separation, storage, and transportation, MOFs show a better performance than conventional adsorption materials such as active carbon. Their performance is often dependent on their structural distribution. To optimize the use of MOFs, their fabrication should be given more attention, without being limited to conventional preparation methods. Alternative preparation methods are given in this review, such as diffusion, solvent thermal, microwave, and ion thermal synthesis. Furthermore, developing functionalized MOFs is an available option to improve the removal efficiencies of a specific contaminant through pre-synthetic modification and post-synthesis modification. Post-synthesis modification has become a recent research hotspot. The coupling of MOFs with other techniques would be another option to ameliorate the remediation of water pollution. On one hand, their intrinsic drawbacks may be reduced. On the other hand, their performance may be enhanced due to their interaction behaviors. Overall, such coupling technologies are able to enhance the performance of an individual material. Because the excellent performance of MOF materials has been widely recognized and their developments have received wide attention, especially in environmental fields, in the present work we provide a review of fabrication of MOFs so as to motivate readers to deepen their understanding of the use of MOFs.

Abstract:Due to the rich structures and ingredients, diverse heteroatom doping, regular network hole structure, adjustable unique morphology and pore structure, large specific surface area, Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted widespread attention. However, most MOFs have poor stability and are prone to self-decompose in the water phase, which limits their use to remove environmental pollutants. Some recent studies have shown that the porous carbon materials derived from MOFs not only maintain the original structure and morphology, but also get excellent stability in water. Considering these advantages, the carbon materials derived from MOFs represent great potential and high performance as adsorbents and catalysts. So far, MOF-derived carbon-based nanomaterials have been used in the field of environmental adsorption and degradation. In this review, we summarize the classification and morphology control of MOF-derived carbon-based nanomaterials, and then focusing on their application of adsorption, electrocatalytic, photocatalytic and advanced oxidative degradation in the environment field for the first time. Finally, we give our own views on the future development of carbon materials derived from MOFs in the environmental field.

Abstract:Presence of emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) in water is one of the major threats to water safety. In recent decades, an increasing number of studies have investigated new approaches for their effective removal. Among them, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted increasing attention since their first development thanks to their tunable metal nodes and versatile, functional linkers. However, whether or not MOFs have a promising future for practical application in emerging contaminants-containing wastewater is debatable. This review summarizes recent studies about the removal of EOCs using MOFs-related material. The synthesis strategies of both MOF particles and composites, including thin-film nanocomposite and mixed matrix membranes, are critically reviewed, as well as various characterization technologies. The application of the MOF-based composite membranes in adsorption, separation (nanofiltration and ultrafiltration), and catalytic degradation are discussed. Overall, literature survey shows that MOFs-based composite could play a crucial role in eliminating EOCs in the future. In particular, modified membranes that realize separation and degradation might be the most promising materials for such application.

Abstract:Environmental pollution, a major public health issue, has gained widespread attention worldwide. Developing efficient technologies for capturing harmful substances is imperative for a cleaner, healthier environment. As typical porous materials with high crystallinity and functional flexibility, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) promise, among others, applications in the elimination of environmental contaminants. However, most MOFs materials have low decontamination efficiency, impeding the practical and advanced application of MOFs. Therefore, researchers have attempted to modify MOFs to introduce new functionalities to parent frameworks for obtaining composites suitable for specific functional tasks for the adsorption or catalytic removal of harmful pollutants. These modified MOFs represent remarkable progress in MOFs research and warrant a comprehensive review. In the current review, we highlight the current progress related to the representative functional modification of MOFs materials for air and water pollutant treatment. The first section provides a brief overview of MOFs classification. Next, the modification approaches of MOFs materials are summarized. In the subsequent sections, the applications of some representative functional modifications of MOFs for air and water decontamination, along with the related data and underlying mechanism, are discussed. Moreover, the stability, reusability, and reproducibility of modification MOFs materials are presented. Along the way, the limitations, subsisting challenges, and possible future trends are discussed. This review may not only inspire the rational design of MOF-modified materials but also encourage further relevant research.

Abstract:To examine the variables associated with heterosexual transmission of human immuno‐deficiency virus (HIV), we studied 32 couples in our hemophilia center who had steady sexual relationships for periods more than 1 year. Of the 32 sexual partners of the hemophiliacs, five (15.6%) were HIV seropositive. All five hemophiliacs with HIV transmission to their sexual partners had measurable immunologic deficiencies, as shown by their lower median T‐helper (CD‐4 +) lymphocyte count of 172 cells/mm3. The hemophiliacs without transmission had a slightly higher median CD‐4 + count of 297 cells/mm3 (P = 26). To determine if factors other than the degree of immunologic deficiency in the hemophiliac might contribute to HIV transmission, 18 of the 32 couples were studied more intensively by confidential, coded questionnaires. Regular condom use was reported by nine couples (50%). Two of nine women (22%) without condom usage acquired HIV. One of nine women (11%) using condoms was seropositive; she also reported eight needlestick injuries while assisting her spouse with clotting factor treatments. Intravenous drug abuse was reported in two of the five couples with HIV transmission. Thus, hemophiliacs are at risk for transmitting HIV parenterally as well as venereally. Despite various risk behaviors associated with HIV transmission, the prevalence of infection in our cohort of hemophiliacs' sexual partners is low and within the range (6.8–22%) reported by others. This study underscores the need for comprehensive education and counseling in what previously appeared to be a homogeneous clinic population at risk for transmitting HIV to others.
Ultrastable MOF-based foams for versatile applications

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are attractive for promising applications but plagued by difficult recovery and deployment due to their intrinsic nano/micro powder nature. Although significant efforts have been made to develop separable solid matrixes for MOF supporting, the poor loading stability and durability of MOFs still challenge their engineering applications. Here, we present a facile and effective approach to fabricate MOF-based melamine foams (MFs) (denoted as MOFiths) with ultrahigh loading stability and operation stability, easy separation, and high-efficient performance for versatile robust applications. By adopting our approach, numbers of typical fragile MOFs characterized with wide ranges of particle size (from ∼ nm to ∼ µm) can be precisely incorporated into MFs with controllable loading ratios (up to ∼ 1,600%). Particularly, the produced MOFiths show excellent capacities for the highly effective and durable water purifications and acetalization reactions. 100% of organic pollutants can be rapidly destructed within 10 min by MOFiths initiated Fenton or catalytic ozonation processes under five successive cycles while the maximum adsorption capacity of MOFiths toward Pb(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II) reaches to 422, 222, and 105 mg·g−1, respectively. This study provides a critical solution to substantially facilitate the engineering applications of MOFs for long-term use in practice.

Multifunctional flexible composite aerogels constructed through in-situ growth of metal-organic framework nanoparticles on bacterial cellulose

Abstract:Flexible metal-organic framework (MOF) aerogels with practical macroscopic shapeability and hierarchical porosity were prepared through in-site growth of MOF nanoparticles, i.e. zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and University of Oslo-66 (UiO-66), on bacteria cellulose (BC). The yielded composite aerogels inherit high porosities from feedstock MOFs and mechanical flexibility from BC template. BC template offers high porosity, mechanical flexibility to the composite aerogels, which significantly suppresses the aggregation of individual MOF nanoparticles. Owing to the structural characteristics of MOF and BC, BC@ZIF-8 composite aerogel sponges exhibit a low density below 0.03 g cm−3, hierarchical porosity, large surface area, high mass transfer efficiency and superior adsorption performance of heavy metal ions. After 24 h adsorption in simulated industrial waterwastes, removal efficiency of the composite aerogels reaches up to 81% with respect to Pb2+ ion pollutants, which is 1.2 times higher than that of original ZIF-8 nanoparticle counterparts. BC@UiO-66 composite aerogel film, as a flexible lithium-sulfur battery interlayer, demonstrates a high reversible capacity of 631 mAh g−1 at 0.5C over 100 cycles, which is attributed to its selectivity for Li+ ions and efficient inhibition to the soluble polysulfide ions. In addition, the presence of polydopamine (PDA) coating on BC@UiO-66 nanofibers in BC@UiO-66@PDA composite aerogel films increases reversible capacity up to 739 mAh g−1 at 0.5 C over 100 cycles. This work provides a feasible solution to process MOF powders into a flexible and tailorable form, and holds a new promise to rational design and manufacturing of MOF monoliths with a great structural diversity as advanced multifunctional materials.

Abstract:Few would argue that the information technology department ITD is not an essential part of an organization. It is hard to envision a project that does not need the support of the ITD. Despite this importance, the ITD is not always involved in the management of projects. Often, the ITD is brought into the project late in the planning and development process. In many cases, the inclusion of the ITD in an advanced project stage can result in project failure where early involvement could have prevented it. Why is it that ITDs, while clearly a vital part of project implementation, are not always incorporated in the early stages of organizational projects? Is the ITD's role not understood, or are there misconceptions regarding the ITD's value? This paper seeks to provide a clearer understanding of the role of ITDs in organizations through a conceptual model of ITD organizational integration. The model provides actionable recommendations, demonstrates the organizational value of ITDs, and highlights the importance of including ITDs early in organizational project lifecycles.

Abstract:Aerogel, known as one of the remarkable materials in the 21st century, possesses exceptional characteristics such as high specific surface area, porosity, and elasticity, making it suitable for a diverse range of applications. In recent years, MXene-based aerogels and MXene composite aerogels as functional materials have solved some limitations of traditional aerogels, such as improving the electrical conductivity of biomass and silicon aerogels, further improving the energy storage capacity of carbon aerogels, enhancing polymer-based aerogels, etc. Consequently, extensive research efforts have been dedicated to investigating MXene-based aerogels, positioning them at the forefront of material science studies. This paper provides a comprehensive review of recent advancements in the preparation, properties, and applications of MXene-based composite aerogels. The primary construction strategies employed (including direct synthesis from MXene dispersions and incorporation of MXene within existing substrates) for fabricating MXene-based aerogels are summarized. Furthermore, the desirable properties (including their applications in electrochemistry, electromagnetic shielding, sensing, and adsorption) of MXene composite aerogels are highlighted. Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are nanostructured polycrystalline materials where metal particles or groups are connected by an organic substituent, known as a 'strut' or 'crosslinks' having large surface area, high permeability, adjustable porosity, and flexible performance. Understanding the interactions and arrangement of MOFs is crucial for efficiently and precisely developing high-performance materials for sustainable applications. In recent years, there has been significant research interest in MOFs as a highly adaptable material for developing renewable and alternative energy conservation and transformation technologies, addressing global pollution and the impending fuel issue. This article provides an overview of the synthesis methods, parameters and characteristics of materials related to MOFs. It also assesses the relationship between the structure and functionality, examining factors that can be manipulated to improve their photocatalytic activity. Various examples were used to classify and examine the practical uses of MOFs, providing researchers with a new viewpoint on the compositional interaction in materials using MOFs. Finally, this study comprehensively analyzes the emerging trends and unresolved challenges in MOFs research across various functionalities.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are novel crystalline porous materials assembled from metal ions and organic ligands. The adaptability of their design and the fine-tuning of the pore structures make them stand out in porous materials. Furthermore, by integrating MOF guest functional materials with other hosts, the novel composites have synergistic benefits in numerous fields such as batteries, supercapacitors, catalysis, gas storage and separation, sensors, and drug delivery. This article starts by examining the structural relationship between the host and guest materials, providing a comprehensive overview of the research advancements in various types of MOF-functionalized composites reported to date. The review focuses specifically on four types of spatial structures, including MOFs being (1) embedded in nanopores, (2) immobilized on surface, (3) coated as shells and (4) assembled into hybrids. In addition, specific design ideas for these four MOF-based composites are presented. Some of them involve in situ synthesis method, solvothermal method, etc. The specific properties and applications of these materials are also mentioned. Finally, a brief summary of the advantages of these four types of MOF composites is given. Hopefully, this article will help researchers in the design of MOF composite structures.
