Abstract:Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic caused massive disruption to medical education in Nigeria, necessitating the call for online medical education in the country. This study assessed the readiness, barriers, and attitude of medical students of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, Nigeria, to online medical education. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was employed. All matriculated medical students of the university participated in the study. Information was obtained using a pre-tested, semi-structured questionnaire which was self-administered. Good attitude towards information and communication technology (ICT) based medical education was determined by the proportion of respondents correctly answering 60% of nine variables. Readiness for online classes was determined by the proportion of students who preferred either a combination of physical and online lectures or only online medical education amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Chi-square test and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression analysis were used in the study. A p-value of <0.05 determined the level of statistical significance. Results: Four hundred and forty-three students participated in the study (response rate; 73.3%). The mean age of the students was 23.0±3.2 years. The majority of the respondents, 52.4%, were males. The students' most preferred sources for studying before the COVID-19 pandemic included textbooks, 55.1% and lecture notes, 19.0%. The commonly visited websites included Google, 75.2%, WhatsApp, 70.0% and YouTube, 59.1%. Less than half, 41.1%, have a functional laptop. The majority, 96.4%, have a functioning email address, while 33.2% participated in a webinar during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though 59.2% had a good attitude towards online medical education, only 56.0% expressed readiness for online medical education. The major barriers to online medical education included poor internet connectivity, 27.1%, poor e-learning infrastructure, 12.9% and students not having laptops, 8.6%. Predictors of readiness for online medical education included previous participation in a webinar, AOR = 2.1, (95%CI: 1.3-3.2) and having a good attitude towards IT-based medical education, AOR = 3.5, (95%CI: 2.3-5.2). Conclusions: The majority of the students showed readiness for online medical education. Lessons from COVID-19 pandemic necessitate the initiation of online medical education. University authorities should ensure that every enrolled medical student owns or have access to a dedicated laptop through a university-mediated arrangement. Adequate attention should be given to the development of e-learning infrastructure, including steady internet services within the confines of the university.

Abstract:Background: The alarming outbreak of the COVID-19 virus significantly disrupted all aspects of human life, including education. As a result, e-learning has become a vital tool for education. This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of medical and anesthesia students toward e-learning in physiology during the pandemic of COVID-19. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted among 67 medical and anesthesiology students at Abadan University of Medical Sciences who studied physiology in the second semester of 2020-2021 in the form of e-learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A researcher-created questionnaire was used, rating items on a five-point Likert scale. Data were entered into SPSS 21 for statistical analysis and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 73.1% of the participants in this study were women. The favorable opinions of students by percentage were as follows: satisfactory access to the Internet, 71.0%; the possibility of downloading educational content from the educational system, 88.2%; effective communication between teacher and student through e-learning, 20.6%; e-learning by combining online and offline education, 69.1%; the suitability of offline educational content due to accessibility convenient to learn at any time and place where the student wants to learn, 75%; face-to-face education is more suitable than e-learning, 60.3%. Conclusion: Effective communication between teacher and student is weak in virtual/online education. Students were generally positive about a combination of online and offline virtual education together and liked offline educational content due to ease of access at any time and place. In general, students preferred face-to-face teaching to virtual education.

Abstract:In this paper, undergraduate student attitudes towards rapidly shifting to an entirely online learning environment were assessed due to COVID-19. In addition, surveys on perceptions about misinformation in media, overall anxiety towards distance learning, knowledge of disease outbreak, and level of preparedness during the onset of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) 2020 outbreak were analyzed. Students surveyed (N = 82) consisted of Wingate undergraduate students from across majors and academic years as part of an animal behavior course covering psychology and human behavior during the COVID-19 2020 crisis during the first two weeks when students returned to school entirely online from off-campus. The majority of students responded that online learning would not be the same as in-class learning (91.5%), indicating a significant difference in responses. Many students indicated they had witnessed some misinformation on COVID-19 in media (98.8%), and there was a significant difference for student perception on being well informed from standard news media (e.g., TV, newspapers) versus social media (t-test = 3.78, p <0.001). Many students (75.6%) responded they held some level of anxiety towards rapidly shifting to finishing a semester online, with 84.2% having discussed disease transmission actively and yet only 64.6% felt well prepared for emergency situations. The majority of students felt preventative measures (university requiring students to move off campus and remainder of semester moving to online distance learning) were based on good science and medical knowledge. Of the students that freely commented in the survey, overall students displayed a wide range of responses, with most expressing anxiety toward online learning, disappointment regarding graduation ceremony, and online learning being different than standard in-class learning. A follow up survey consisting of one question, revealed improvement in students that stated they felt less anxiety towards online learning after 3 weeks (51.4% Yes: 48.6% No), but still many students exhibiting anxiety towards distance education.

Abstract:During the COVID-19 pandemic, educational institutions confronted the possibility of complete closure and took countermeasures by adapting e-learning platforms. The present cross-sectional study quantified the impact of the pandemic on medical education using a validated and reliable tool. The tool was used to explore the perceptions of 270 healthcare students about e-learning in comparison to traditional learning systems. Inferential statistics were employed using Pearson's chi-squared test. It was found that e-learning was advantageous because of its location flexibility (46.1%) and the ease of access to study materials (46.5%). However, in-person learning was found to lead to an increase in knowledge (44.9%), clinical skills (52.7%), and social competencies (52.7%). The study concluded that while e-learning offers flexibility, traditional face-to-face teaching is deemed more effective for skill development and social interaction. Hence, e-learning should complement rather than replace traditional methods due to limitations in replicating clinical environments.

Abstract:Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare human transmissible spongiform subacute encephalopathy. The most common clinical manifestations of CJD include rapidly progressive dementia, behavioural changes, cerebellar dysfunction and myoclonus. Other seizure types are rare and nonconvulsive status epilepticus (SE) is exceptional. We report a case of a 44-year-old man who presented a psychotic episode followed by akinetic mutism and refractory nonconvulsive SE. The final diagnosis was CJD. Continuous video-EEG monitoring revealed the ictal pattern of nonconvulsive SE to be periodic sharp wave complexes characteristic of CJD.

Abstract:The study in this article addresses three research questions: a) how do college students view the effectiveness of technology-mediated virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic; b) how does virtual learning impact their perceived mental health; and c) what is the mode of learning they most prefer? It follows an explanatory research design and survey method. Data are collected using a questionnaire with a purposive sample of 102 students and interviews with 20 students and 40 faculty members in India. The conceptual framework of this study is quite similar to the modified version of the Technology Acceptance Model (Venkatesh and Davis, 2000). The study reveals that 86% of the students find virtual learning to be ineffective. Such learning not only fails to provide adequate opportunities for experiential learning for developing knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities but also creates several perceived mental health problems. This study may help higher education institutions while designing and implementing virtual teaching-learning systems in order to prevent their negative impact on student’s perceived mental health in future crises. Abstract:<span>COVID-19 is a global concern affecting Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). This pandemic led to a strong reaction among students who experiences anxiety. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine students' knowledge, attitudes, anxiety, and coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results showed that students possessed sufficient knowledge and high-risk perceptions. Non-medical prevention measures were perceived as highly effective. Students were satisfied with the government's actions to mitigate problems. However, an unwillingness with the online-blended learning approach was observed. Students utilized various ways to cope up with mental health challenges. It is necessary to address students' mental health during this COVID-19 pandemic among HEIs.</span>

Abstract:Background: The Covid-19 has made a huge impact on higher education. Online teaching and learning became essential to deliver educational activities in all areas including medical education. In this study, we aimed to investigate medical students' perceptions on the role of online teaching and learning in facilitating medical education. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study using a self-administered online questionnaire was conducted. Students eligible were medical students across all years at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. Perceptions analysis was conducted using SPSS software. Results: A total of 563 students participated in the study (prominent category female 64%, n = 361). There was a significant increase in the number of hours devoted to online learning during the pandemic. Live lectures/tutorials platform via zoom showed the highest rate of interaction compared to pre-recorded lectures and learning materials uploaded on blackboard. 50% of the students disagreed that online teaching is as effective as face-to-face teaching. The greatest perceived enjoyable aspect included the online accessibility of materials. Whereas the most frequent perceived barrier to online learning included internet connection. 17% of students reflected a poor understanding of scientific materials through online PBL. More than 50% of students revealed that online theoretical lectures are as good as classroom or better. Whereas the majority (70%) were unable to learn clinical skills online. The results indicated high impact on students' physical activities (80%). Impacts were higher on pre-clinical students' health and social life than on clinical students. Conclusion: Our findings reported that during emergency situations due to the pandemic, online teaching enables the continuity of medical education and provides adequate efficiency. The use of live online platforms showed high level of interaction. However, some barriers need to be addressed especially at the clinical skills development level to maximize the benefit of online teaching and learning.

Abstract:Background. After COVID-19 emergence, medical education witnessed a shift from face-to-face education to digital education, which inevitably affected medical students. Globally, due to the closure of schools and universities, medical education was shifted to electronic learning (E-learning). This paper aimed to assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on medical education and determine medical students’ knowledge, attitude, and practices towards E-learning in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Materials and Methods. An online cross-sectional study was conducted among 500 undergraduate students of seven medical colleges in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, in November 2021, to assess their state during the COVID-19 pandemic and how this affected their education. Results. There were 50.6% of males and 49.4% of females. The mean age was 20.6 (± 1.5 SD) years. Approximately 17% of participants mentioned having financial issues, while 19.2% of students experienced health-related problems. As many as 67% of participants reported that the Internet quality was good or very good, whereas 46.8% of students disagreed that E-learning was a possible substitute for traditional learning. About two-thirds of participants agreed or were neutral that downloadable content was better than live content; however, only 19.2% of students agreed that E-learning could be used in the clinical aspect. A total of 52.2% of participants disagreed that E-testing could replace traditional learning methods. Surprisingly, 86.4% of students stated that they regularly used the Internet in their study. Conclusions. E-learning was the main adjustment made in the educational system, including medical education. The study concluded with insights into how different circumstances could have different consequences on the efficacy of medical education. E-learning showed effective results in continuing learning until the educational system switched to a blended system. Training programs for medical education personnel are vital in effective E-learning opportunities.

Abstract:Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has affected most industries, including health education. In this study, we surveyed students studying healthcare-related courses at our university on how their lifestyles and behaviours, mental health and education had been affected by the pandemic. Methods Mixed methods cross-sectional study. Results Two hundred thirty-three students responded to the questionnaire. Lifestyle and behaviours: 51.5% of the participants changed their diet ( n =120); 45.5% ( n =106) exercised less; 66.5% ( n =155) experienced a change in sleep; 51.1% ( n =119) reported a change in appetite. Mental health: 84.2% ( n =196) reported worrying too much about different things; 61.9% ( n =144) could not stop or control worrying; 71.2% experienced trouble relaxing on several days or more ( n =166). At least sometimes, 72.1% ( n =168) felt unable to cope with things they had to do; 8.5% ( n =20) never, or almost never, felt confident about handling personal problems. Education: 65.7% ( n =153) struggled to complete learning outcomes with online delivery; 82% ( n =191) worried about practical skills being affected; 60.5% ( n =141) worried about the impact of COVID-19 on their future career. Almost half (48.9%, n =114) believed that online teaching should be part of the standard curriculum. Conclusion In general, there was a negative impact on behaviours, lifestyle and mental health and virtual education was perceived as necessary in making up for the loss of face to face experiences. Students’ mental health and educational needs have been affected by the current pandemic and healthcare educational facilities must respond to these needs to ensure students continue to receive the support they need.

Abstract:Objectives To investigate perceptions of medical students on the role of online teaching in facilitating medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design Cross-sectional, online national survey. Setting Responses collected online from 4 th May 2020 to 11 th May 2020 across 40 UK medical schools. Participants Medical students across all years from UK-registered medical schools. Main outcome measures The uses, experiences, perceived benefits and barriers of online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results 2721 medical students across 39 medical schools responded. Medical schools adapted to the pandemic in different ways. The changes included the development of new distance-learning platforms on which content was released, remote delivery of lectures using platforms and the use of question banks and other online active recall resources. A significant difference was found between time spent on online platforms before and during COVID-19, with 7.35% students before versus 23.56% students during the pandemic spending >15 hours per week (p<0.05). The greatest perceived benefits of online teaching platforms included their flexibility. Whereas the commonly perceived barriers to using online teaching platforms included family distraction (26.76%) and poor internet connection (21.53%). Conclusions Online teaching has enabled the continuation of medical education during these unprecedented times. Moving forward from this pandemic, in order to maximise the benefits of both face-to-face and online teaching and to improve the efficacy of medical education in the future, we suggest medical schools resort to teaching formats such as team-based/problem-based learning. This uses online teaching platforms allowing students to digest information in their own time but also allows students to then constructively discuss this material with peers. It has also been shown to be effective in terms of achieving learning outcomes. Beyond COVID-19, we anticipate further incorporation of online teaching methods within traditional medical education. This may accompany the observed shift in medical practice towards virtual consultations.

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on online medical education - An online survey of students' perspective

Abstract:Introduction: The year 2020 brings in a paradigm shift in medical education with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the government of India initiated the first countrywide lockdown, educational institutions, including medical colleges, have adopted online mode for undergraduate teaching. Medical education is virtually incomplete without appropriate practical exposure. This study was conducted to understand the opinion of the medical students towards online classes as an impact of this pandemic on medical education. Materials and methods: A descriptive online survey was conducted using a google form among medical undergraduate students from across India. Snowball sampling was used to recruit study participants. The responses were analyzed using numbers and percentages. Continuous variables were expressed as the mean and standard deviation of the mean. Results: The mean age of the 1426 respondents was 20.46 years. The majority of the responses were from Karnataka (412), followed by Odisha (167). While fairly a good number of respondents agreed that online classes provided a conducive environment and independence in learning, a large proportion disagreed or remained neutral in terms of its usefulness. This could be attributed to several reasons, which may be categorized into three important groups: the technical competence of the students, the provision of an enabling environment and the ability of the teachers. Conclusion: Students had varying opinions on online classes, but most emphasized the need for redoing the lessons taught online.
Analysis of Students Satisfaction with Virtual Education in Medical Science University during the Pandemic Outbreak of COVID-19

Abstract:Nowadays, owning to the failure of the Traditional Educational System, the only option left is the Virtual Educational, which will change the educational system at 180 degrees. The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the relationship between different factors associated with the level of satisfaction amongst students of Medical Science University during the pandemic outbreak of COVID-19. This cross-sectional study was performed among students of Birjand University of Medical Sciences in 2020. They completed the questionnaire was created using a Google platform and their answers was collected online. Satisfaction towards virtual educational learning plus total evaluation scores for various dimension of questionnaire was analyzed. A total of 320 out of 2700 students participated in the study voluntarily. Students’ satisfaction with blended method in teaching style was higher and significant than two separate styles (p<0.05), but there was no significant relationship between satisfaction level and some demographic characteristics. Also, the majority of participants (41.7%) have a medium level of Satisfaction. There was significant relationship between the amount of computer skills, Semester and sex with overall satisfaction (p<0.05). Students demonstrated a moderate satisfaction and positive attitude towards VR educational system which comprises of a “Virtual Learning Room” at home for both the teacher and student. To be able to implement education in medical universities in the coronavirus crisis, electronic and internet infrastructures need to be completed quickly, and officials should take steps to empower students and teachers to take advantage of this opportunity.
COVID-19 and digitized education: Analysis of online learning in Nigerian higher education

Abstract:This study aims at investigating student perception of Nigerian institutions of higher learning using the new digital culture induced by the COVID-19 pandemic, namely, online learning (i.e. e-learning), that has become commonplace globally and specifically in Nigeria. The study used quantitative survey methods and a sample size of 1134 Nigerian students of the three types of higher institutions in Nigeria: universities, polytechnics, and colleges of higher education based on student state residential location. The respondents completed a questionnaire via Google Forms in June and July 2020. The study found that students are not satisfied with virtual learning embarked upon by many higher institutions throughout the country during the COVID-19 lockdown and would not want the online learning to continue after the pandemic due to poor internet infrastructure and lack of electricity. The study concluded that students of higher education in Nigeria have a low acceptance of online learning technology, preferring instead the traditional classroom setting, and thus putting them in the “Laggards adopter categorization” of the diffusion innovation theory, i.e., the group that is highly conservative and extremely slow to accept new technological innovations. The study recommends that universities should engage students more interactively not only through texts but also video (e.g. camera demonstrations), increase their online learning during the pandemic so as not to lag academically, and spend more time on online learning to get the best possible level of instruction until traditional learning resumes. Also, it is recommended that administrators of Nigerian higher institutions should return to a traditional learning format as soon as the pandemic is over as well as an overhaul and restructuring of the internet and power grid nationwide.
Perspectives of educators and students on the efficacy of online teaching and learning strategies employed during COVID-19 in a health sciences institution

Abstract:Background: Healthcare education encountered unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the necessary responses have also provided learning opportunities for the future. Aims: We aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on teaching and learning strategies and the perceptions of clinical educators and health sciences students on novel methods to improve online student engagement in Ireland's largest medical school. Methods: Two separate online surveys designed to gain insights into the perceived efficacy of online teaching strategies were distributed to clinical educators and health sciences students (medical and pharmacy) over 7 months via email. Results: A total of 86.4% of educators responded that rapport was more difficult to build online, and 90.5% reported less engagement from students online. The most popular methods that improved student engagement included using polls, a chat box function for questions, small group discussions and having student cameras turned on. Amongst educators surveyed, 81.8% felt a training course focused on teaching strategies at the start of every academic year would be beneficial. From the students' perspective, no difference was noted between the medicine and the pharmacy students. Seventy-five percent reported using quizzes/polls, and 63% reported using game-based platforms as techniques to improve online learning. Sixty-two percent of students described it as a positive outcome of learning during the pandemic. Conclusion: Any pandemic poses unique challenges to the delivery of healthcare education. These surveys report educators' and students' views on online teaching and learning strategies, highlighting novel mechanisms to improve student engagement and ultimately impact on graduate outcomes.

Methods: An online, cross-sectional survey was conducted among 397 medical students using Google forms circulated on social networking sites, like WhatsApp. Data were collected on self-reported anxiety and preventive health behaviors, challenges faced in daily activities, perception of e-learning, and changes in social and personal relationships. Results: As compared to before the advent of the pandemic, 83% of the students were more nervous and anxious, 38% washed their hands more often, and 43% bought more cleaning and hygiene supplies during the pandemic. Forty-two percent of the respondents went out less often, and 73% had lesser in-person social contact with their friends. The majority of students practiced a sedentary lifestyle; 47% snacked more often, and 58% had lesser physical activity. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the role of the provision of emotional support and strategies to enhance the well-being of medical students.

Abstract:With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown approach that was adopted all over the world, conducting assessments while maintaining integrity became a big challenge. This article aims at sharing the experience of conducting an online assessment with the academic community and to assess its effectiveness from both examiners' and students' perspectives. An online assessment was carried out for the final year medical students of Hawler Medical University/Iraq during the lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic, June 2020. Then, an online questionnaire was sent to a sample of 61 examiners and 108 students who have been involved in evaluating the mentioned assessment process. Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to compare the mean ranks of the overall satisfaction scores between categories of the students and examiners. Categorical data were summarized and presented as frequencies and percentages. The response rates among examiners and students were 69.4% and 88.5% respectively. The majority of the examiners were generally satisfied with the online examination process compared to only around a third of the students. However, both examiners and students agreed that online examination was not suitable for assessing the physical examination skills. The online assessment can be considered a good alternative and acceptable method for medical students' assessment in unpredicted emergencies, yet it was not applicable in testing physical examination skills.

Abstract:Background: Protective measures like social distancing and staying home when possible were imposed by the public health authorities to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Educational institutions which had previously experienced only face-to-face traditional methods of service delivery suffered from huge difficulties in maintaining an effective teaching process. This cross-sectional study investigates the experiences of students of Hawler Medical University (Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan), exploring their e-learning experience and satisfaction when conventional classroom learning was suspended due to lockdown. Methods: A self-administered online questionnaire designed on Google Forms was administered from 14 to 31 March 2020. The main section of the questionnaire asked participants to rate their agreement with statements concerning e-learning satisfaction using a five-point Likert scale, with answers ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Results: From an initial 1550 participants, 808 ultimately completed the processual stage. The majority of respondents were female, from the College of Medicine, of urban residence, and of an average economic situation. Three-quarters of the respondents had not participated in any online course before, 27.7% did not have the required electronic devices, 43.3% did not have the sufficient computer skills for the e-learning, and 38% thought that the University did not support the use of the e-learning system. During the processual stage, only 24.4% thought that the internet connection was good and helpful, 14.6% easily attended the online sessions, 35.6% thought that teachers have enough time to answer students' questions and concerns, and 18% that the teaching materials contributed to the course objectives and overall learning outcome. Conclusions: Hawler Medical students were not well prepared to engage in the e-learning process. The majority experienced internet access and other technical problems in accessing the online sessions. They did not feel that the e-learning process has contributed to the achievement of course objectives and overall learning outcomes.

Abstract:The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused an unprecedented disruption in medical education and healthcare systems worldwide. The disease can cause life-threatening conditions and it presents challenges for medical education, as instructors must deliver lectures safely, while ensuring the integrity and continuity of the medical education process. It is therefore important to assess the usability of online learning methods, and to determine their feasibility and adequacy for medical students. We aimed to provide an overview of the situation experienced by medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of medical students regarding electronic medical education. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with medical students from more than 13 medical schools in Libya. A paper-based and online survey was conducted using email and social media. The survey requested demographic and socioeconomic information, as well as information related to medical online learning and electronic devices; medical education status during the COVID-19 pandemic; mental health assessments; and e-learning knowledge, attitudes, and practices. A total of 3,348 valid questionnaires were retrieved. Most respondents (64.7%) disagreed that e-learning could be implemented easily in Libya. While 54.1% of the respondents agreed that interactive discussion is achievable by means of e-learning. However, only 21.1% agreed that e-learning could be used for clinical aspects, as compared with 54.8% who disagreed with this statement and 24% who were neutral. Only 27.7% of the respondents had participated in online medical educational programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, while 65% reported using the internet for participating in study groups and discussions. There is no vaccine for COVID-19 yet. As such, the pandemic will undeniably continue to disrupt medical education and training. As we face the prospect of a second wave of virus transmission, we must take certain measures and make changes to minimize the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on medical education and on the progression of training. The time for change is now, and there should be support and enthusiasm for providing valid solutions to reduce this disruption, such as online training and virtual clinical experience. These measures could then be followed by hands-on experience that is provided in a safe environment.

Abstract:Background In 2020 WHO declared the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak as a global pandemic. To flatten the curve of infection, a nationwide lockdown was declared by the Indian government. All the schools and colleges were shut for an indefinite period. Like all other streams, medical education also got severely hampered. Adapting themselves to the changing environment, teachers started using different teaching-learning methods and media to get across to the students. The objective of the research was to study the perception of medical students towards online teaching during the COVID pandemic. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by the distribution of a pre-validated online questionnaire to medical students of West Bengal. From the collected data, relevant statistical averages and census domains were calculated. The chi-square test was done and assessed with a p≤0.05 significance level. Results A significant increase was noted in the time spent by students on various online teaching activities (p<0.05). Video tutorials, e.g., YouTube, were ranked as the most effective mode (17.2%), followed by live tutorials via Microsoft Teams, etc. (8.9%). A significant number (30.2%) of students strongly favoured online teaching over face-to-face teaching. Major challenges of online learning cited by students were internet connectivity issues (79.8%) followed by family distraction (37.9 %) and inconvenient timing of the classes (20.1%). Conclusion Our study highlighted the benefits, disadvantages and barriers to online learning from the perspective of undergraduate medical education in India. Even though the online mode of teaching was found to be beneficial in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it cannot be used as an absolute substitution for face-to-face teaching in the given context.
