Abstract:The research of new high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials is of great significance to the solution of electromagnetic radiation pollution and the development of military stealth technology. Herein, cage-like and hierarchically porous structured Ni/C @ Co/N-doped C (Ni/C@Co/NC) composites were rationally constructed through the pyrolysis of Ni-MOF@Co-MOF precursors. By tuning the addition of Ni-MOF, Ni/C@Co/NC composites with diverse Ni/Co constitutes and structures were acquired. Compared with the Ni/C and Co/NC, all the Ni/C@Co/NC composites exhibit stronger absorption ability and broader absorption bandwidth. Among these, Ni/C@Co/NC-2 composite shows a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -35.90 dB at 10.45 GHz and an effective absorption band (EAB) of 6.10 GHz (11.91-18 GHz) with the thickness of 2.19 mm, Ni/C@Co/NC-4 composite exhibits a RLmin of -66.30 dB at 5.96 GHz and an EAB of 5.87 GHz (11.98-17.85 GHz) with the thickness of 2.30 mm. The excellent EMW absorption performances are ascribed to the unique hierarchically porous and cage-like structure of the composites, which makes the composites show good impedance matching characteristics and strong EMW attenuation ability. This work offers a novel strategy for constructing bimetallic core-shell MOF/MOF derived composites as high-performance EMW absorbing materials.

Abstract:Resolving intergroup conflicts is one of humanity’s most important challenges. Social psychologists join this endeavor, not only to understand the psychological foundations of intergroup conflicts but also to suggest interventions that aim to resolve conflicts peacefully. The present article begins by describing a specific type of conflict, namely, an intractable conflict that has distinguishing characteristics. One characteristic that fuels its intractability is the presence of socio-psychological barriers. These barriers result in one-sided information processing that obstructs the penetration of new information to promote peace: Members of a society immersed in an intractable conflict are frozen in their conflict-supporting societal beliefs. The most challenging question is how to unfreeze these beliefs, to overcome these barriers. Various interventions have been designed to promote intergroup peace, within a new taxonomy specifying the nature and goals of the interventions. Peace-promoting interventions can be divided into three categories: (a) interventions that provide contradictory information, (b) interventions that provide information through experiences, and (c) interventions that teach a new skill. Finally, a number of conclusions and limitations stem from the reviewed interventions, suggesting a new line of intervention based on “paradoxical thinking.”
Ultrathin CoNi@Ti3C2TX Composites with Sandwich Structures for Efficient Microwave Absorption

Abstract:To obtain high-performance electromagnetic absorbing materials, we designed CoNi@Ti3C2TX composites by a simple solvent thermal reduction method. Herein, we report the successful decoration of 80 nm CoNi alloy particles on the surface and interlayer of Ti3C2TX. The calculated results show that the introduction of CoNi particles into the composites leads to dielectric loss and increases in Ms and Hc, significantly enhancing the soft magnetic properties of the CoNi@Ti3C2TX composites. After adjusting the electromagnetic parameters, the optimal RL value of-51.5 dB is obtained at the frequency of 13.9 GHz, and the corresponding thickness is only 1.1 mm. The expected impedance matching and electromagnetic attenuation properties of the CoNi@Ti3C2TX composites are attributed to synergic dual loss mechanisms - dielectric loss and magnetic loss - between the CoNi alloy particles and Ti3C2TX. These are mainly due to conduction loss, dipole polarization, and interface polari-zation, as well as natural resonance and eddy current losses generated by CoNi nanoparticles. The lightweight and highly reflective CoNi@Ti3C2TX composites are promising for applications as highly effective electromag-netic absorbers.
In-Situ Fabrication of Sustainable-N-Doped-Carbon-Nanotube-Encapsulated CoNi Heterogenous Nanocomposites for High-Efficiency Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

Abstract:Developing carbon encapsulated magnetic composites with rational design of microstructure for achieving high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption in a facile, sustainable, and energy-efficiency approach is highly demanded yet remains challenging. Here, a type of N-doped carbon nanotube (CNT) encapsulated CoNi alloy nanocomposites with diverse heterostructures are synthesized via the facile, sustainable autocatalytic pyrolysis of porous CoNi-layered double hydroxide/melamine. Specifically, the formation mechanism of the encapsulated structure and the effects of heterogenous microstructure and composition on the EMW absorption performance are ascertained. With the presence of melamine, CoNi alloy emerges its autocatalysis effect to generate N-doped CNTs, leading to unique heterostructure and high oxidation stability. The abundant heterogeneous interfaces induce strong interfacial polarization to EMWs and optimize impedance matching characteristic. Combined with the inherent high conductive and magnetic loss capabilities, the nanocomposites accomplish a high-efficiency EMW absorption performance even at a low filling ratio. The minimum reflection loss of -84.0 dB at the thickness of 3.2 mm and a maximum effective bandwidth of 4.3 GHz are obtained, comparable to the best EMW absorbers. Integrated with the facile, controllable, and sustainable preparation approach of the heterogenous nanocomposites, the work shows a great promise of the nanocarbon encapsulation protocol for achieving lightweight, high-performance EMW absorption materials.

Abstract:The rational modulating of the microstructure in magnetic carbon-based composites is crucial to optimize the electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance. It is challenging for EMW absorbers to simultaneously achieve optimal minimum reflection loss (RLmin) and a broadband effective absorption bandwidth (EAB). In this paper, carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-modified NiCo/CNTs nanosheets were effectively prepared as a new EMW absorption material utilizing NiCo-containing metal-organic framework (MOF) as a sacrificial precursor. As expected, NiCo/CNTs-650 demonstrated both a broadband EAB of 7.04 GHz and the RLmin of − 58.14 dB at 15.9 GHz with a thickness of 2.0 mm. Furthermore, NiCo/CNTs-650 is capable of achieving 30.2 dB m 2 RSC (radar cross section) reduction under an incident angle of 7° via CST, while NiCo/CNTs-700 15 % achieved a reduction of 39.47 dB m 2 at 0 °. These performances outperformed that other CNTs-decorated MOF-derived hierarchical composites previously described. NiCo/CNTs-650 combines the synergistic effects of magnetic loss provided by zero-dimensional (0D) NiCo alloy, dielectric attenuation realized by one-dimensional (1D) CNTs, and optimized impedance matching through two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets with abundant hierarchical interfaces. These studies provide a specialized route for the manufacture of mixed-dimensional hierarchical EMW absorbents with high performance.

Abstract:In the practical application of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers, two important factors that simultaneously meet the lightweight characteristics and efficient absorption performance still face considerable challenges. In this work, the ultra-lightweight CoNi alloy nanoparticles uniformly distributed modified carbon nanofiber composites (CoNi@CNFs) was prepared by an ion-etching strategy. The carbon fibers create a three-dimensional conductive network that enhances the absorber's conduction loss capability. The polarization loss is enhanced by the defects in the carbon skeleton and the numerous heterogeneous interfaces formed between the carbon fibers and the surface of CoNi metal particles. The impedance matching property of CoNi@CNFs is optimized by the magnetic dielectric synergistic effect produced by the Ni 2+ etching process. At a frequency of 17.58 GHz, the minimum reflection loss (RL min ) can reach − 52.34 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth covers the complete Ku band at 7.0 GHz (11.0–18.0 GHz). In the range of − 60° to 60°, the radar cross-section values of the samples, calculated using CST simulation, are less than − 10 dBm 2 . This is critical for realizing the stealth capability of EMWs in high-frequency environments. This study provides an effective strategy for developing highly absorbent, lightweight EMW absorbers with practical potential applications.

Abstract:Magnetic metal/carbon matrix composites have gained significant attention as vital microwave absorption materials (MAMs) in recent years, owing to their multifarious microwave loss mechanisms, adjustable chemical composition, and microstructure. In this study, we describe the successful synthesis of nickel-cobalt bimetallic nanosheet arrays @ hydrophilic carbon cloth (NiCo-BNSAs @ HCC) composites with a distinctive core-sheath structure, low density, and high toughness using a solvothermal method followed by a high-temperature pyrolysis process. Despite their low density and high toughness, these composites exhibit outstanding MA properties at low matching thicknesses. Among them, S2 exhibited the minimum reflection loss ( RL min ) of −75.4 dB at 1.35 mm, with its optimal effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL <−10 dB) extending to 3.6 GHz at 1.10 mm. Our analysis indicates that the incorporation of NiCo-BNSAs nanosheets not only enhances the multiple scattering of EM waves but also improves interfacial polarization loss and dipole polarization loss. This study provides valuable insights into the rational construction of high-performance magnetic metal/ carbon matrix MAMs with a core-sheath structure.

Abstract:For enhancing the electromagnetic wave (EW) attenuation and adsorption, rational constructing and homogeneously distributing bimetallic electromagnetic coupling units in hollow structure is an effective way, but hard to achieve. Herein, a CoNi‐doped hybrid zeolite imidazole framework was synthesized as precursor, which was further converted into a hollow CoNi‐bimetallic doped molybdenum carbide sphere (H‐CoNi@MoC/NC) through a two‐step etching and calcination strategy. At the loading amount of 15 wt%, a strong absorption of minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of ‐60.05 dB at 7.2 GHz with the thickness of 3.1 mm and a wide effective adsorption bandwidth (EAB) of 3.52 GHz at the thickness of 2.5 mm were achieved, which far beyond the reported MoC‐based metallic hybrids. The crucial synergistic Co‐Ni electromagnetic coupling effect in the composite was characterized, not only enhancing the dipolar/interfacial polarization, but also promoting the impedance matching, displaying the optimized EW absorbing performance. Abstract:Structure design and assembly control are the two key factors in designing new microwave absorbing materials and improving their electromagnetic wave absorption (EMWA) performance; however, balancing the coordination between these factors remains a great challenge. In this manuscript, a coprecipitation method and an in-situ polymerization method were used to construct nitrogen-carbon-doped popcorn-like porous nanocomposites (NiCoFe/N-C). The metallic particles were encapsulated in approximately 10 layers of graphite carbon shells, and a NiCoFe/N-C core-shell structure was formed. The EMWA properties of the NiCoFe/N-C composites were adjusted by varying the divinylbenzene (DVB) to acrylonitrile (AN) content. The optimized NiCoFe/N-C composite showed a minimum reflection loss of -57.5 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 5.44 GHz. The excellent EMWA properties of the NiCoFe/N-C composites can be attributed to the synergistic effect among the core-shell structure, popcorn-like structure, magnetic metal, carbon and nitrogen. This effect leads to enhanced impedance matching, interface polarization, dipole polarization, multiple reflection and scattering in the composites. In this paper, an effective strategy for the preparation of high-performance magnetic/dielectric composites is provided by carefully designing a new microstructure.

Abstract:The performance and effective absorbing bandwidth (EAB) of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers depend largely on electromagnetic impedance matching. Herein an efficient strategy for tuning impedance matching is reported. Porous Ni/Co@C nanocomposites with adjustable pore sizes were synthesized by varying calcination temperature. The obtained Ni/Co@C have EMW absorption capacity, adjusted impedance matching, and multiple scattering. Impedance matching is optimized to achieve super reflection loss (RL) of Ni/Co@C-600, while broaden the EBA of Ni/Co@C-650. Ni/Co@C-650 nanocomposite has the optimum RL of −66.3 dB with a thickness of 2.0 mm, and the EAB reaches 6.0 GHz at 2.3 mm thickness. Ni/Co@C-600 has an optimum RL of −71.9 dB at 8.9 GHz. This work provided a facile strategy for the design of porous nanocomposite with improving impedance matching.

Abstract:Nanocomposites with heterogeneous structures and magneto-electric synergistic losses have broad prospects for improving electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance. In this study, we synthesized Co2NiO4@MnCo2O4.5 nanoparticles with abundant hetero-interfaces and multiple magneto-electric loss mechanisms by a facile hydrothermal method. The excess 0.5 oxygen atoms in MnCo2O4.5 produce more vacancies and contribute to the enhancement of electrical conductivity. Sequential nanoneedle clusters facilitate multiple reflections and absorption of EMW in the materials, which are accompanied by an abundance of heterogeneous interfaces to improve the dielectric loss. The Co2NiO4@MnCo2O4.5 composites showed a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of −30.01 dB and a superior effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 6.12 GHz (11.88 GHz–18 GHz) at a thickness of 2.00 mm. Computer Simulation Technology (CST) revealed that the obtained particles show very low radar cross-section (RCS) values and almost full coverage angles. The maximum reduction of RCS at vertical incidence reaches 19.98 dB m2. The Co2NiO4@MnCo2O4.5 nanoparticles exhibit outstanding radar attenuation properties, which can effectively inhibit the reflection and scattering of EMW. Therefore, the prepared Co2NiO4@MnCo2O4.5 absorbers have great application potential in the field of EMW absorption.

Abstract:NiMZn/C@melamine sponge-derived carbon (MSDC) composites (M = Co, Fe, and Mn) were prepared by a vacuum pumping solution method followed by carbonization. A large number of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) homogeneously attached to the surfaces of the three-dimensional cross-linked of the sponge-derived carbon in the NiCoZn/C@MSDC composite, and CNTs were detected in the NiFeZn/C@MSDC and NiMnZn/C@MSDC composites. Ni 3 ZnC 0.7 , Ni 3 Fe, and MnO in-situ formed in the NiFeZn/C@MSDC and NiMnZn/C@MSDC composites. The CNTs in the NiCoZn/C@MSDC composite efficiently modulated its complex permittivity. Thus, the composite exhibited the best performance among the composites, with the minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −33.1 dB at 18 GHz and thickness of 1.4 mm. The bandwidth for RL of ≤−10 dB was up to 5.04 GHz at the thickness of 1.7 mm and loading of 25wt%. The optimized impedance matching, enhanced interfacial and dipole polarization, remarkable conduction loss, and multiple reflections and scattering of the incident microwaves improved the microwave absorption performance. The effects of Co, Ni, and Fe on the phase and morphology provided an alternative way for developing highly efficient and broadband microwave absorbers.

Abstract:The absorbers with strong absorption capacity, wide effective absorption bandwidth (EAB), low filling, lightweight and thin thickness are the future development direction of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption field. NiCo2O4/CF composites were synthesized by simple hydrothermal method and calcination method in this study. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and vector network analyzer (VNA) were used to study the crystal structure, microstructure, surface chemical states and microwave absorption properties of the composites, respectively. Carbon fiber (CF) was used as nucleation carrier, and NiCo2O4 formed a dense conductive network on its surface in the shape of nanoneedles. In addition, there are abundant oxygen vacancies and heterogeneous interfaces on the surface of composite materials, which can cause dipole polarization and interface polarization and lead to more dissipation of electromagnetic wave energy. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of the NiCo2O4/CF composite is − 59.75 dB at the thickness of 2.01 mm. The maximum effective absorption bandwidth (RL < −10 dB) of the composite is 4.12 GHz (8.84–12.96 GHz) at the thickness of 2.18 mm. In the thickness range of 1.2–5 mm, the effective absorption frequency range of the composite material accounted for 80.78% of the measurement range (3.46–18 GHz), which covered the whole C-band, X-band and Ku-band, as well as a portion of the S-band. NiCo2O4/CF composites have the characteristics of strong absorption and wide absorption bandwidth due to the synergistic effect of dielectric loss and magnetic loss, good impedance matching characteristics and more Debye relaxation processes, which provide new inspiration for the structure and component design of lightweight microwave absorbing materials (MAMs).

Abstract:<p>The perfect control over the constituent and architecture of porous nanomaterials is still a significant challenge in developing high performance electromagnetic wave absorption materials. We found that by introducing additional metal Nickle into the porous Co/C composites, the CoNi/C-800-PVDF nanocomposite could yield an excellent reflection loss of −61.02 dB at 13.68 GHz and simultaneously possess effective absorbing bandwidth of 5.2 GHz with lower filler loading as 10 wt%, which corresponding to a less absorber thickness of 2 mm. These results demonstrate that the synergistic effects between the bimetallic components and hollow structure of novel CoNi/C composite optimize impedance matching, and thus improve the absorption performance greatly. The properties of specific surface area, interface polarization, dipole polarization, ferromagnetic resonance, eddy current loss and multiple scattering are investigated to further explain the high performance of materials.</p>

Abstract:With the coming era of artificial intelligence (AI) dominated by high-tech electronics, developing high-performance microwave absorption materials (MAMs) is imperative to solve the problem of increasing electromagnetic inference and pollution. Herein, a metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived CoNi bimetallic alloy (CoNi/C) with an irregular rod-like structure is prepared by a thermal reduction method. Introducing the CoNi alloy facilitates the balance between conduction loss and polarization loss and forms good impedance matching, leading to excellent microwave absorption performance. Interestingly, the optimization of absorption performance can be further achieved by controllably modulating the molar ratio of Co and Ni (Co 2+ /Ni 2+ ). As expected, the obtained CoNi/C delivers excellent microwave absorption performance with a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −50.80 dB at 10.40 GHz and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 3.28 GHz (8.91–12.19 GHz) with a filler loading of 50 wt% at 2.0 mm. In addition, the CoNi/C can reach a maximum EAB of 4.77 GHz (12.99–17.76 GHz) at a low thickness of 1.5 mm, spanning nearly the entire Ku band. The CoNi 3 /C also exhibits an impressive RL min of −44.84 dB at 3.28 GHz in the S band. This work offers a novel strategy to modulate the magnetic/electric properties of MOF-derived MAMs.

Abstract:In order to effectively utilize the magnetic-dielectric synergy and interfacial engineering, in this paper, yolk—shell structured magnetic multicomponent nanocomposites (MCNCs) including CoNi@void@C and CoNi@void@C@MoS 2 were produced in large scale by in-situ pyrolysis of cubic CoNi Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) followed by the hydrothermal process, respectively. Because of their unique structures, excellent synergistic effect between dielectric and magnetic loss, the as-prepared CoNi@void@C and CoNi@void@C@MoS 2 MCNCs displayed very outstanding electromagnetic wave absorption performances (EMWAPs) including strong absorption capabilities, broad absorption bandwidth and thin matching thicknesses. Furthermore, the as-prepared CoNi@void@C and CoNi@void@C@MoS 2 MCNCs well maintained the cubic configuration of CoNi PBAs even after the thermal treatment and hydrothermal processes. The unique structure and formed carbon layers effectively prevented the corrosion of internal CoNi alloy during the formation of MoS 2 , and CoNi@void@C@MoS 2 MCNCs with different MoS 2 contents could be synthesized by controlling the hydrothermal temperature. The obtained results revealed that the EM parameters, dielectric and magnetic loss capabilities of CoNi@void@C@MoS 2 MCNCs could be tuned by controlling hydrothermal temperature and filler loading, which made their outstanding EMWAPs could be achieved in different frequency regions. Taking account of simple process, low density and high chemical stability, our findings provided a new and effective pathway to develop the strong wideband microwave absorbers.

Abstract:Developing high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbing materials (EWAMs) with tunable nano-microstructures is of great significance for solving increased electromagnetic radiation pollution. Three-dimensional hierarchical networks within magnetic metal nanoparticles are promising candidates with the great balance of enhanced electromagnetic wave attenuation and impedance matching, but hard to construct. Herein, a two-step electrospinning/in-situ self-assembly strategy was employed, successfully synthesizing a 3D hierarchical core-shell /NC nanofiber network (/NC-900). The N-doped Carbon (NC) core fibers (diameter of ∼250 nm) built a 3D-conductive network, while the nanoparticles (diameter of ∼20 nm) embedded into N-doped Carbon (Co/NC) shell (thickness of ∼50 nm) enhanced the polarization loss and magnetic loss. More importantly, the controlled transformation of nanoparticles in the shell was realized by modulating the calcination temperature at 900 °C, showing an optimal homogeneously dispersion in a narrow particle size distribution in the range of 15–25 nm. Uniformly multiple reflection in core-shell /NC-900 fiber network enhanced the electromagnetic wave attenuation with the optimal impedance matching, displaying excellent RLmin of −55.82 dB at 11.60 GHz and wide EAB of 7.44 GHz in a low filler loading of 15 wt %. The whole X and Ku bands could be fully covered in different thickness of 4.0 and 3.0 mm. This work presents a superior nano-micro structural design strategy on 3D hierarchical networks with multiple reflections.

Abstract:Light-weight and low-cost electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption materials are in urgent need, as EM and radiation interference pollution is increasingly serious. Carbon materials as EM absorbers have attracted ever increasing attention, because of their high electrical conductivity, large specific surface area and low density. However, their absorption property is still limited. Herein, we propose a very simple strategy to prepare hierarchical carbon fiber coated with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and NiCo/C flower-like particles (NiCo@NPC@CF), using cotton and metal-organic framework (MOF) as precursors. The minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of hierarchical NiCo@NPC@CF is dramatically enhanced to −46.5 dB with a wide effectively absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 15.3 GHz. The excellent EM wave absorption performance is attributed to the micro-to-nano hierarchical hollow fibrous structure, as well as the synergetic effect of dielectric loss and magnetic loss. Therefore, this work provides a green, low-cost and sustainable strategy to prepare excellent microwave absorbers utilizing biomass and MOF precursor.
