Abstract:The irreversible loss of cardiomyocytes is mainly the result of ischemic/reperfusion (I/R) myocardial injury, leading to persistent heart dysfunction and heart failure. It has been reported that Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) has protective effects on cardiomyocytes, but the specific mechanism is still not completely understood. The present study examined the protective role of LBP in myocardial I/R injury. Rats were subjected to myocardial I/R injury and LBP treatment. Moreover, rat myocardial H9C2 cells exposed to hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) were used to simulate cardiac injury during myocardial I/R process and were exposed to LBP, rapamycin (an autophagy activator) or nuclear factor‑erythroid factor 2‑related factor 2 (Nrf2) transfection. Morphological examination, histopathological examination and echocardiography were used to determine the cardiac injury after I/R injury. Cell viability and apoptosis were determined via MTT and flow cytometry assays, respectively. The levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), cardiac troponin T (cTnT), IL‑1β, IL‑6, TNF‑α, malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxidase dismutase (SOD) in rat serum, hearts and/or cells were assessed using ELISAs. The expression levels of Beclin 1, LC3II/LC3I, P62 and Nrf2 were analyzed via reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR and western blotting. The results demonstrated that LBP improved heart function and repaired cardiomyocyte damage in I/R model rats, as well as reduced the production of cTnT, CK, LDH, IL‑1β, IL‑6 and TNF‑α. The in vitro study results indicated that LBP increased cell viability, the apoptosis rate, and the levels of SOD and P62, as well as reduced the levels of LDH, CK, IL‑1β, IL‑6, TNF‑α, MDA, Beclin 1 and LC3‑II/LC3‑I in H/R‑injured H9C2 cells. Moreover, LBP promoted Nrf2 nuclear translocation, but decreased Nrf2 expression in the cytoplasm. Rapamycin exacerbated the aforementioned effects in H/R injured H9C2 cells, and partially reversed LBP‑induced effects. Overexpressing Nrf2 counteracted I/R‑induced effects and partially resisted rapamycin‑induced effects. These findings demonstrated that LBP exhibited a cardiac protective effect on the ischemic myocardium of rats after reperfusion and attenuated myocardial I/R injury via autophagy inhibition‑induced Nrf2 activation.

Abstract:Lycopene (Ly), the most common type of anti-oxidant in the majority of diet types, provides tolerance to ischemia/reperfusion injury. However, the underlying mechanism of the protective effects observed following Ly administration remains poorly investigated. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether Ly prevents damage to hypoxia/reoxygenation (HR)-induced H9C2 myocardioblasts in an autophagy-dependent manner. The levels of autophagic markers were detected using western blotting, the level of apoptosis was detected using western blotting and flow cytometry. The activation of autophagy was impaired via knockdown of the expression of 'microtubule-associated -protein 1-light chain 313 (MAP1LC3B)' and 'Beclin F. After 16 h hypoxia, followed by 2 h reoxygenation, the expression levels of the microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain 3 (LC3) and Beclin 1 autophagic biomarkers, and cell viability were reduced, whereas the percentage of apoptotic cells, and the expression levels of the Bax/B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bc1-2) and active caspase-3 apoptotic biomarkers were increased. Pre-incubation of the cells with different Ly concentrations reversed the HR-induced inhibition of autophagy and cell viability, and the HR-induced elevation in apoptotic levels. The induction of autophagy was accompanied by reduced apoptosis, and decreased expression levels of Bax/Bc1-2 and active caspase-3. In addition, the impairment of autophagy by silencing the expression of MAP1LC3B and Beclin 1 accelerated HR-induced H9C2 cell apoptosis and the Ly-mediated protective effects disappeared. Furthermore, Bax/Bcl-2 and active caspase-3 expression levels were increased. Moreover, Ly-induced autophagy was associated with increased adenosine monophosphate kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation. Suppressed AMPK phosphorylation using compound C terminates Ly-mediated cytoprotective effects. Ly treatment improves cell viability and reduces apoptosis as a result of the activation of the adaptive autophagic response on HR-induced H9C2 myocardioblasts. AMPK phosphorylation may be involved in the progression.
Astragaloside IV Derivative (LS-102) Alleviated Myocardial Ischemia Reperfusion Injury by Inhibiting Drp1Ser616 Phosphorylation-Mediated Mitochondrial Fission

Abstract:Our previous studies showed that Astragaloside IV derivative (LS-102) exhibited potent protective function against ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury, but little is known about the mechanisms. Mitochondrial fission regulated by dynamin-related protein1 (Drp1) is a newly recognized determinant of mitochondrial function. This study aimed to investigate the protection of LS-102 on mitochondrial structure and function by regulating the activity of Drp1 using models of H9c2 cardiomyocyte injury induced by hypoxia-reperfusion (H/R), and rat heart injury induced by I/R. The results showed that LS-102 significantly decreased apoptosis, levels of ROS, CK, LDH, and calcium, upregulating MMP, and the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio in cardiomyocytes during I/R injury. Furthermore, LS-102 prevented I/R-induced mitochondrial fission by decreasing Drp1's mitochondrial localization through decreasing the phosphorylation of Drp1 at Ser616 (Drp1Ser616) and increasing the phosphorylation of Drp1 at Ser637 (Drp1Ser637) in H9c2 cells. Importantly, we also robustly confirmed Drp1Ser616 as a novel GSK-3β phosphorylation site. GSK-3β-mediated phosphorylation at Drp1Ser616 may be associated with mitochondrial fission during I/R of cardiomyocytes. In conclusion, LS-102 exerts cardio protection against I/R-induced injury by inhibiting mitochondrial fission via blocking GSK-3β-mediated phosphorylation at Ser616 of Drp1.

Abstract:Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a heterogenous syndrome characterised by diffuse alveolar damage, with an increase in lung endothelial and epithelial permeability. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), the most biologically active fraction of wolfberry, possesses antiapoptotic and antioxidative effects in distinct situations. In the present study, the protective effects and potential molecular mechanisms of LBP against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ARDS were investigated in the mice and in the human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMECs). The data indicated that pretreatment with LBP significantly attenuated LPS-induced lung inflammation and pulmonary oedema in vivo. LBP significantly reversed LPS-induced decrease in cell viability, increase in apoptosis and oxidative stress via inhibiting caspase-3 activation and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in vitro. Moreover, the scratch assay verified that LBP restored the dysfunction of endothelial cells (ECs) migration induced by LPS stimulation. Furthermore, LBP also significantly suppressed LPS-induced NF-κB activation, and subsequently reversed the release of cytochrome c. These results showed the antiapoptosis and antioxidant LBP could partially protect against LPS-induced ARDS through promoting the ECs survival and scavenging ROS via inhibition of NF-κB signalling pathway. Thus, LBP could be potentially used for ARDS against pulmonary inflammation and pulmonary oedema.

Abstract:Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP), extracts from the wolfberries, are protective to retina after ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). The antioxidant response element (ARE)-mediated antioxidant pathway plays an important role in maintaining the redox status of the retina. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), combined with potent AREs in its promoter, is a highly effective therapeutic target for the protection against neurodegenerative diseases, including I/R-induced retinal damage. The aim of our present study was to investigate whether the protective effect of LBP after I/R damage was mediated via activation of the Nrf2/HO-1-antioxidant pathway in the retina. Retinal I/R was induced by an increase in intraocular pressure to 130 mm Hg for 60 minutes. Prior to the induction of ischemia, rats were orally treated with either vehicle (PBS) or LBP (1 mg/kg) once a day for 1 week. For specific experiments, zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP, 20 mg/kg), an HO-1 inhibitor, was intraperitoneally administered at 24 h prior to ischemia. The protective effects of LBP were evaluated by quantifying ganglion cell and amacrine cell survival, and by measuring cell apoptosis in the retinal layers. In addition, HO-1 expression was examined using Western blotting and immunofluorescence analyses. Cytosolic and nuclear Nrf2 was measured using immunofluorescent staining. LBP treatment significantly increased Nrf2 nuclear accumulation and HO-1 expression in the retina after I/R injury. Increased apoptosis and a decrease in the number of viable cells were observed in the ganglion cell layer (GCL) and inner nuclear layer (INL) in the I/R retina, which were reversed by LBP treatment. The HO-1 inhibitor, ZnPP, diminished the LBP treatment-induced protective effects in the retina after I/R. Taken together, these results suggested that LBP partially exerted its beneficial neuroprotective effects via the activation of Nrf2 and an increase in HO-1 protein expression.
Protective effect of luteolin on cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats with myocardial infarction through ERK/JNK signaling pathway

Abstract:Due to the increased incidence of cardiovascular diseases, the incidence of cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is also on the rise. Luteolin has a certain protective effect on myocardium. Therefore, this study focuses on whether luteolin can protect IRI in rats with myocardial infarction. A myocardial infarction rat model was prepared and the isolated heart was treated to induce cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury. British biodegradable packaging company (BIOPAC) biological signal collector detects myocardial indicators; semi-automatic biochemical analyzer detects myocardial infarct size; hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining observes pathological changes along with analysis of the levels of ERK, JNK, and Caspase-3 and proliferation and apoptosis of myocardial cells. Luteolin can improve the myocardial index level of rats with myocardial infarction and increase survival rate; the rats in luteolin group have the smallest myocardial infarction area, and the myocardial tissue is tightly arranged, the myocardial collagen is significantly reduced, and the myocardial injury index is significantly reduced. Luteolin inhibited the proliferation, migration and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes. Caspase-3, ERK, and JNK expression in the ERK/JNK agonist group was the most obvious. Their levels were highest in the luteolin+ERK/JNK agonist group (vs. other groups, P <0.05), which was higher than ERK/JNK agonist group. Luteolin can inhibit Caspase-3 expression by activating ERK/JNK signaling pathway, thereby reducing myocardial injury.

Abstract:The article focuses on labour turnover as a potential threat to knowledge loss. Labour turnover results in an organizations inability to ensure knowledge continuity. In this study, induction was used to identify factors within organizations that determine employees' exit from organi- zations. The verifiability of these factors was tested by means of correlation and regression. Subsequently, the presented causes of employee turnover were specified as potential threat to knowledge loss. In the current knowledge economy, employees in an organization are consid- ered the key competitive advantage and the most important asset. If an employee leaves an organization, they take the knowledge they have acquired with them. The loss of knowledge is a potential threat to an organizations existence, especially if an employee with valuable knowl- edge leaves to join a competitor. Therefore, this paper deals with knowledge continuity as a probable means of eliminating this threat. Dependencies between selected qualitative variables were tested to determine their impact on organizations. The study concludes by indicating that, today's knowledge-based organizations must be aware of the main causes and consequences of employee fluctuation so as to maintain their competitiveness in times of economic crisis.
Protective effect of Ginkgo biloba leaves extract, EGb761, on myocardium injury in ischemia reperfusion rats via regulation of TLR-4/NF-κB signaling pathway

Abstract:Beneficial actions of EGb 761 against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in lung, brain and renal ischemia have been described. However, the relationship between EGb 761 and signal molecules in myocardial ischemia reperfusion has not been well elucidated. In this study, we investigated the effects and mechanism of EGb 761 preconditioning on anti-myocardial I/R injuries in vivo. Meanwhile, their potential anti-oxidative stress and anti-inflammation effect were assessed. Hemodynamic parameters were monitored as left ventricular systolic pressure, LV end-diastolic pressure and maximal rate of increase and decrease of left ventricular pressure (dP/dtmax). The oxidative stress indicators and inflammatory factors were also evaluated. Western blot method was used for analysis of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), p-TLR4, nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), p-NF-κB p65, Bax and Bcl-2 protein expressions. EGb 761 significantly improved cardiac function, decreased levels of creatine kinase, aspartate aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase. EGb 761 also restrained the oxidative stress related to myocardial ischemia injury as evidenced by decreased malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione-peroxidase, glutathione reductase activity. Meanwhile, the inflammatory cascade was inhibited as evidenced by decreased cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and interleukin-1β. Our results still showed that EGb 761 pretreatment significantly decrease the level of cleaved Bax, and increase the level of Bcl-2 in rats subjected to I/R injury. Simultaneously, the expressions of myocardial TLR4 and NF-κB were significantly decreased. It can be concluded that EGb 761 pretreatment was protected against myocardium I/R injury by decreasing oxidative stress, repressing inflammatory cascade in vivo and inhibiting TLR4/NF-κB pathway.
Ginsenoside Rd Attenuates Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Inhibiting Inflammation and Apoptosis through PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathway

Abstract:The American Journal of Chinese Medicine, Ahead of Print. Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is the leading cause of death worldwide. Ginsenoside Rd (GRd) has cardioprotective properties but its efficacy and mechanism of action in myocardial I/R injury have not been clarified. This study investigated GRd as a potent therapeutic agent for myocardial I/R injury. Oxygen-glucose deprivation and reperfusion (OGD/R) and left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation were used to establish a myocardial I/R injury model in vitro and in vivo. In vivo, GRd significantly reduced the myocardial infarct size and markers of myocardial injury and improved the cardiac function in myocardial I/R injury mice. In vitro, GRd enhanced cell viability and protected the H9c2 rat cardiomyoblast cell line from OGD-induced injury GRd. The network pharmacology analysis predicted 48 potential targets of GRd for the treatment of myocardial I/R injury. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that the cardioprotective effects of GRd were closely related to inflammation and apoptosis mediated by the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Furthermore, GRd alleviated inflammation and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in vivo and inhibited OGD/R-induced apoptosis and inflammation in cardiomyocytes. GRd also increased PI3K and Akt phosphorylation, suggesting activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway, whereas LY294002, a PI3K inhibitor, blocked the GRd-induced inhibition of OGD/R-induced apoptosis and inflammation in H9c2 cells. The therapeutic effect of GRd in vivo and in vitro against myocardial I/R injury was primarily dependent on PI3K/Akt pathway activation to inhibit inflammation and cardiomyocyte apoptosis. This study provides new evidence for the use of GRd as a cardiovascular drug.

Berberine plays a cardioprotective role by inhibiting macrophage Wnt5a/β‐catenin pathway in the myocardium of mice after myocardial infarction

Abstract:Myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the diseases with high fatality rate. Berberine (BBR) is a monomer compound with various biological functions. And some studies have confirmed that BBR plays an important role in alleviating cardiomyocyte injury after MI. However, the specific mechanism is unclear. In this study, we induced a model of MI by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery and we surprisingly found that BBR significantly improved ventricular remodeling, with a minor inflammatory and oxidative stress injury, and stronger angiogenesis. Moreover, BBR inhibited the secretion of Wnt5a/β‐catenin pathway in macrophages after MI, thus promoting the differentiation of macrophages into M2 type. In summary, BBR effectively improved cardiac function of mice after MI, and the potential protective mechanism was associated with the regulation of inflammatory responses and the inhibition of macrophage Wnt5a/β‐catenin pathway in the infarcted heart tissues. Importantly, these findings supported BBR as an effective cardioprotective drug after MI.

Investors use measures of risk. Abstract:Disturbed structure and dysfunction of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) lead to degenerative diseases of the retina. Excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the RPE is thought to play an important role in RPE dysfunction and degeneration. Autophagy is a generally low-activity degradation process of cellular components that increases significantly when high levels of oxidative stress are present. Agents with antioxidant properties may decrease autophagy and provide protection against RPE dysfunction and damage caused by ROS. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) has been widely studied as an antioxidant and cell-protective agent. Therefore, we designed this study to investigate the effects of LBP, which inhibits miR-181, on autophagy in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) with oxidative stress in vitro and in vivo. In the current study, we found that the highly expressed miR-181 downregulated the expression of Bcl-2 in hydrogen peroxide- (H2O2-) induced ARPE-19 cells, resulting in an increase in ROS, apoptosis, and autophagy flux. LBP inhibited the expression of miR-181, decreased the levels of ROS, apoptosis, and autophagy flux, and increased cell viability in H2O2-induced ARPE-19 cells, suggesting that LBP provides protection against oxidative damage in ARPE-19 cells. We also found that LBP decreased RPE atrophy and autophagy flux in rd10 mice. Taken together, the results showed that LBP has a protective effect for RPE under oxidative stress by inhibiting miR-181 and affecting the Bcl-2/Beclin1 autophagy signaling pathway.

Abstract:Introduction: Myocardial infarction (MI), the most prevalent ischemic heart disease, constitutes a primary cause of global cardiovascular disease with incidence and mortality. The pathogenesis of MI is exceedingly intricate, with PANoptosis playing a pivotal role in its pathological process. Xian Ling Gu Bao capsule (XLGB) contains various active components, including flavonoids, terpenes, and phenylpropanoids, and exhibits a wide range of pharmacological activities. However, it remains unclear whether XLGB can protect the myocardium from damage after MI. This study aimed to investigate the impact of XLGB on isoprenaline (ISO)-induced MI in mice and its potential mechanisms. Methods: This study assessed the protective effects of XLGB against ISO-induced MI through techniques such as echocardiography, HE staining, Masson staining, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Furthermore, the potential mechanisms of XLGB's protective effects on MI were explored using bioinformatics, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations. These mechanisms were further validated through immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting. Results: The results demonstrated that various doses of XLGB exhibited a significant reduction in myocardial injury induced by myocardial infarction. Intriguingly, higher dosages of XLGB displayed superior therapeutic efficacy compared to the positive control metoprolol. This protective effect is primarily achieved through the inhibition of oxidative stress and the inflammatory processes. Furthermore, we have elucidated that XLGB protected the myocardium from MI-induced damage by suppressing PANoptosis, with a critical role played by the NLRP3/Caspase3/RIP1 signaling pathway. Of particular note, the primary compounds of XLGB were found to directly interact with NLRP3/Caspase3/RIP1, a discovery further validated through molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. This suggests that NLRP3/Caspase3/RIP1 may be a therapeutic target for XLGB-induced myocardial protection. Conclusion: In summary, our findings reveal a novel property of XLGB: reverses myocardial damage following MI by inhibiting the NLRP3/Caspase3/RIP1-mediated PANoptosis pathway.

Abstract:Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), is a major active ingredient Lycium barbarum (LB), which exhibits several beneficial effects through NF-κB, PI3K-Akt-mTOR, p38-MAPK, Wnt-β-catenin, PI3K-Akt-GSK-3β, and MyD88 signal pathway, including anti-oxidation, and anti-aging, hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic, radiation, anti-tumor, and neuroprotection. Today, many researching papers are published on the LBP in physiology and pathology; however, the review of the LBP taking part in the signal transduction pathway in physiology and pathology is rear searched. Therefore, this research topic is a collection of reviews and original research articles that focus on the methods of the LBP extraction and its effects on the signal transduction pathway. The aim of this study is to provide theoretical evidence for in-depth analysis of the mechanisms of LBP in clinical clinical research studies.
ERK/PP1a/PLB/SERCA2a and JNK Pathways Are Involved in Luteolin-Mediated Protection of Rat Hearts and Cardiomyocytes following Ischemia/Reperfusion

Abstract:Luteolin has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of various diseases. Recent studies have suggested that administration of luteolin yields cardioprotective effects during ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in rats. However, the precise mechanisms of this action remain unclear. The aim of this study is to confirm that luteolin-mediated extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK1/2) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathways are responsible for their cardioprotective effects during I/R. Wistar rats were divided into the following groups: (i) DMSO group (DMSO); (ii) I/R group (I/R); (iii) luteolin+I/R group (Lut+I/R); (iv) ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059+I/R group (PD+I/R); (v) PD98059+luteolin+I/R group (PD+Lut+I/R); and (vi) JNK inhibitor SP600125+I/R group (SP+I/R). The following properties were measured: contractile function of isolated heart and cardiomyocytes; infarct size; the release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH); the percentage of apoptotic cells; the expression levels of Bcl-2 and Bax; and phosphorylation status of ERK1/2, JNK, type 1 protein phosphatase (PP1a), phospholamban (PLB) and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+)-ATPase (SERCA2a). Our data showed that pretreatment with luteolin or SP600125 significantly improved the contraction of the isolated heart and cardiomyocytes, reduced infarct size and LDH activity, decreased the rate of apoptosis and increased the Bcl-2/Bax ratio. However, pretreatment with PD98059 alone before I/R had no effect on the above indexes. Further, these consequences of luteolin pretreatment were abrogated by co-administration of PD98059. We also found that pretreatment with PD98059 caused a significant increase in JNK expression, and SP600125 could cause ERK1/2 activation during I/R. In addition, we are the first to demonstrate that luteolin affects PP1a expression, which results in the up-regulation of the PLB, thereby relieving its inhibition of SERCA2a. These results showed that luteolin improves cardiomyocyte contractile function after I/R injury by an ERK1/2-PP1a-PLB-SERCA2a-mediated mechanism independent of JNK signaling pathway.

Abstract:Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) is an alkaloid extracted from lycium barbarum. LBP is the active component of lycium barbarum used to treat hypertension, atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases in Chinese traditional medicine. However, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of LBP- mediated activity in vascular disease remain poorly understood. In the present study, we showed the protective effect of LBP in vascular smooth muscle cells. Our results indicate that LBP significantly reduces the proliferation of VSMCs caused by Homocysteine (Hcy) and inhibits the phenotypic transformation of VSMCs caused by Hcy, from contractile to synthetic. LBP inhibited the protein expression of PI3K and Akt caused by Hcy, and increased the expression of miR-145. The results indicate that LBP exhibits substantial therapeutic potential for the treatment of Hcy-induced VSMCs proliferation and phenotypic transformation through inhibition of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

Abstract:Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Undesirable myocardial damage may occur during reperfusion of the ischemic myocardium, and this is known as "ischemic reperfusion injury" (IRI). Currently, there are few effective drugs to alleviate IRI. Dl-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) is recommended for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke in China. This study investigated the effects of NBP on IRI and its underlying mechanisms. Methods: The left anterior descending (LAD) coronary arteries of rats were occluded for 30 minutes and reperfused for 6 hours to establish the ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) model. NBP was administered intraperitoneally 2 hours before modeling and immediately after reperfusion. At 6 hours after reperfusion, 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), oxidative stress index, myocardial injury index, hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), immunofluorescence staining, and Western blot analyses were performed to investigate the protective effects of NBP against IRI. Results: In the rat I/R model, NBP remarkably reduced the myocardial infarct size, alleviated myocardial injury and oxidative stress, improved the pathological alteration of cardiomyocytes and mitochondria, and upregulated mitophagy. In addition, the study demonstrated that the protective effects of NBP against IRI involved mitophagy mediated by the PTEN-induced putative kinase protein-1 (PINK1)/Parkin signaling pathway. Conclusions: NBP was able to protect the myocardium from IRI in rats through inhibiting oxidative stress and activating mitophagy, mediated by the PINK1/Parkin pathway.
