Abstract:Objectives: To compare screw-retained and cemented all-ceramic implant-supported single crowns regarding biological and technical outcomes over a 5-year observation period. Materials and methods: In 44 patients, 44 two-piece dental implants were placed in single-tooth gaps in the esthetic zone. Patients randomly received a screw-retained (SR) or cemented (CR) all-ceramic single crown and were then re-examined annually up to 5 years. Outcome measures included: clinical, biological, technical, and radiographic parameters. Data were statistically analyzed with Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, and Fisher's exact tests. Results: During the observation period, three patients (6.8%) were loss to follow-up. Eight restorations (18.2%, CI (8.2%, 32.7%)) were lost due to technical (6 patients, 13.6% (CI (5.2%, 27.4%)), 2 CR and 4 SR group, intergroup p = .673; implants still present) or biological complications (2 patients, 4.5% (CI (0.6%, 16.5%)), only CR group, intergroup p = .201, both implants lost). This resulted in a survival rate of 81.2% (CI (65.9%, 90.1%)) on the restorative level (18 SR; 15 CR, 3 lost to follow-up). At the 5-year follow-up, the median marginal bone levels were located slightly apical relative to the implant shoulder with 0.4 mm (0.5; 0.3) (SR) and 0.4 mm (0.8; 0.3) (CR) (intergroup p = .582). Cemented restorations demonstrated a significantly higher biological complication rate (36.8%, SR: 0.0%; intergroup p = .0022), as well as a significantly higher overall complication rate (68.4%, SR: 22.7%, intergroup p = .0049). All other outcomes did not differ significantly between the two groups (p > .05). Conclusions: All-ceramic single-tooth restorations on two-piece dental implants resulted in a relatively low survival rate. Cemented restorations were associated with a higher biological and overall complication rate than screw-retained restorations.
Peri-implant Marginal Bone Changes with Implant-Supported Metal-Ceramic or Monolithic Zirconia Single Crowns: A Retrospective Clinical Study of 1 to 5 Years.

Abstract:Statement of problem. Monolithic zirconia has excellent mechanical and biologic properties. However, evidence of the clinical properties of implant-supported monolithic zirconia prostheses is limited.Purpose. The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to compare the peri-implant marginal bone changes of metal-ceramic and monolithic zirconia single crowns in the posterior region after prosthetic loading.Material and methods. A total of 224 participants treated with 327 implants restored with either metal-ceramic or monolithic zirconia single crowns in the posterior region between 2012 and 2016 were included in this study. Clinical outcomes, including the plaque index, peri-implant probing depth, and bleeding on probing, were recorded, and the marginal bone level was recorded by using the panoramic radiographs obtained at implant placement, second-stage surgery, and the most recent follow-up visit. The included parameters were analyzed with the nonparametric Mann-Whitney tests (a=.05).Results. The mean follow-up time was 30.4 months, and the cumulative survival rate of implants was 100% and that of the prostheses was 99.1%. The plaque index was 0.46 in the metal -ceramic group, which was significantly higher (P<.05) than 0.37 in the monolithic zirconia group. However, no significant differences (P>.05) were observed in peri-implant probing depth and bleeding on probing between the 2 groups. The marginal bone level at implant placement, second-stage surgery, and the most recent follow-up visit was above the implant platform in both the metal-ceramic and monolithic zirconia groups. The marginal bone changes of the metal-ceramic group was 0.31 mm in the healing period and 0.38 mm in the prosthetic loading period, while in the monolithic zirconia group, it was 0.25 mm in the healing period and 0.43 mm in the prosthetic loading period; no significant differences (P>.05) were observed between the 2 groups.Conclusions. The peri-implant marginal bone level change was comparable after prosthetic loading for metal-ceramic and monolithic zirconia single crowns, although monolithic zirconia was associated with reduced plaque. Abstract:Objectives To compare marginal bone levels, biological, and technical outcomes of screw‐retained versus cemented all‐ceramic implant‐supported zirconia‐based single crowns after an observation period of 7.5 years. Methods Forty‐four single implants in the esthetic zone in 44 patients (22 females, 22 males) were randomly assigned to two types of restorations: SR (screw‐retained); veneered one‐piece zirconia abutment and CR (cement‐retained); veneered lithium disilicate crown intraorally cemented on a one‐piece zirconia abutment. Patients were recalled annually up to 7.5 years and survival rates, biological, and technical parameters assessed. Results A total of 31 patients attended the 7.5‐year follow‐up visit (17 SR group, 14 CR group). The survival rate on the restorative level was 77.5% (74.0% CR, 81.0% SR, p = .6399). Median marginal bone loss (MBL) values yielded −0.073 mm (−0.305; 0.238) in the CR and −0.215 mm (−0.500; 0.555) in the SR group (intergroup p = .6194). Mean bleeding on probing (BoP) values were significantly in favor of group SR with 20 ± 17% compared to 40 ± 22% in group CR (p = .011). The overall biological complication rate amounted to 27.5% (42.1% CR, 14.3% SR, p = .0775), whereas the technical complication rate was 32.5% (42.1% CR, 23.8% SR, p = .314). In total, CR restorations showed significantly more complications (84.2% for CR, 38.1% for SR, p = .0041). Conclusion One‐piece zirconia‐based single crowns on two‐piece dental implants exhibited a high rate of technical and biological complications at 7.5 years of follow‐up. Cemented restorations revealed significant higher rates of bleeding on probing and total complications compared to screw‐retained restorations.

Abstract:Abstract Statement of problem Computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) zirconia post-cores is one of the options of post crown restoration materials due to their esthetic properties and superior mechanical strength. However, the clinical effect on aesthetics and strength properties is unclear due to the lack of results of their long-term follow-up. Purpose This retrospective clinical study aims to analyze the survival rate, clinical manifestations, and failure factors after CAD/CAM zirconia post-core restoration. Material and methods Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed on 342 patients with 400 teeth for 3–6 years postsurgical follow-up examination. The patients were all received CAD/CAM zirconia post-cores and all-ceramic crowns at the Department of Prosthodontics in the public hospital. The retrospective outcomes were conducted after zirconia post restoration, including survival rate by Kaplan–Meier analysis and findings of manifestations and failure factors. The effects of gender and dental position on survival rate were analyzed by Cox–Mantel Test. Results This study retrospectively evaluated 261 teeth from 229 patients with a 35% drop-out rate. The survival rate was 96.0%, and the success rate was 92.4%. According to the tooth position classification, the survival rate was 100% for 101 anterior teeth, 95.4% for 69 premolars, and 88.3% for 91 molars. According to gender, the survival rate of the male group was 92.3%, while that of the female group was 98.0%, with a significant difference (P < 0.01). The complications included crown fracture (1.9%) periapical inflammation (1.9%), crown debonding (1.1%), percussion abnormal (1.9%) and root fracture (0.8%). Conclusions Within the limitations of this retrospective study, it can be concluded that CAD/CAM zirconia post-cores are clinically promising. Compared with the posterior teeth, CAD/CAM zirconia post-cores are more suitable for anterior teeth.
Screw-retained monolithic zirconia vs. cemented porcelain-fused-to-metal implant crowns: a prospective randomized clinical trial in split-mouth design

Abstract:ObjectivesThe objective of the present study was to compare the clinical performance of screw-retained, monolithic, zirconia, and cemented porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) implant crowns.Materials and methodsIn a prospective, randomized, clinical, split-mouth trial, 22 patients’ bilateral premolar or molar single-gap were restored with either screw-retained (test group) or cemented supraconstruction (control group). Clinical parameters, soft-tissue health, crestal bone-level changes, technical complications, and patient’s subjective feelings were recorded during a follow-up period of 12 months.ResultsNo implant was lost during the follow-up period. Of the crowns, 4.5% (test) and 9.1% (control) showed bleeding on probing (P = 1.000), and plaque was visible in 13.6% (test) and 27.3% (control) of the crowns (P = 0.240). Changes in bone crest level seemed to have no correlation with the restoration method (P = 0.77/0.79). Technical failures were observed in three restorations of the test and four of the control group. Evaluation of patients’ satisfaction revealed high acceptance regarding fit, esthetics, and chewing effectiveness in both groups.ConclusionOver a 12-month follow-up, screw-retained and cemented crowns could show comparable clinical and radiological results regarding soft tissue health, marginal bone level, and patient satisfaction. Duration of treatment alone was significantly shorter in screw-retained crowns.Clinical relevanceProsthetic retention methods are related with the occurrence of complications, such as peri-implantitis. However, scientific valuable data that proof superiority of a specific retention technique are rare. In single-gap implants, screw retention and cementation seemed to achieved comparable results.

Abstract:ObjectivesThe objective of this clinical study was to evaluate the clinical performance of implant-supported zirconia crowns with a sintered veneering cap. Furthermore, the influence of the type of retention (screw-retained vs cemented single crowns) was analysed.Materials and methodsFifty-eight patients were accommodated with 114 implants, inserted in the molar and premolar regions. Zirconia-based crowns with a sintered veneering cap were either screw-retained (n = 53) or cemented (n = 61) on the implant. Recalls were performed every 6 months. The state of soft tissue was documented by the modified plaque and gingiva index (mPI) and sulcus bleeding index (mSBI). The restorations were evaluated for technical failures like veneering porcelain fractures, surface qualities and marginal fitting.ResultsNeither implant loss nor crown fractures occurred. After a mean clinical service time of 36.9 months, fractures of the veneering porcelain were registered in 1.8 % of the cases. The Kaplan-Meier survival probability regarding eventless restorations was 98.2 %. Chipping of the veneering porcelain was registered in two cemented crowns without statistical influence of the type of retention. The indices showed healthy soft periimplant tissues in both groups.ConclusionsImplant-supported zirconia crowns with a sintered veneering cap demonstrated good clinical performance. The type of retention had no influence on technical complications.

Abstract:ObjectivesTo compare the incidence of biological and technical complications of cemented and screw-retained monolithic lithium disilicate implant-supported posterior single crowns. Material and MethodsForty-one subjects with a total of 56 implants received randomly allocated 28 cemented and 28 screw-retained crowns. In the screw-retained group monolithic lithium disilicate restorations were luted to titanium bases extraorally. In the cemented group, monolithic lithium disilicate crowns were cemented on individualized titanium abutments intraorally. All restorations were examined according to modified FDI criteria within two weeks of inserting the crowns (baseline) and after 12 (n=46) and 24 (n=43) months. Bone loss was evaluated by standardized radiographs at baseline and 12 months. ResultsAfter 12 months, the incidence of mucositis (positive bleeding on probing) was 14.2% (screw-retained) and 17.9% (cement-retained). The gingival and plaque index and a mean marginal bone loss between 0.03-0.15 mm showed no significant difference between the groups. In the cemented group, cement residues were detected at baseline at two restorations (6.9%) by radiographic examination. A complete digital workflow was realized in most cases (85.7%). At 24 months, no restoration had failed, and no chipping of the ceramic had occurred. In the screw-retained group, screw loosening occurred in one implant. In both groups, there was obvious deterioration in the quality of 32% of the occlusal and of 18% of the proximal contact points. ConclusionsThe type of retention mode of monolithic implant-retained lithium disilicate posterior crowns had no influence on the biological and technical complication rate.

Awake craniotomy for gliomas in a high-field intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging suite: analysis of 42 cases.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES The object of this study was to describe the experience of combining awake craniotomy techniques with high-field (1.5 T) intraoperative MRI (iMRI) for tumors adjacent to eloquent cortex. METHODS From a prospective database the authors obtained and evaluated the records of all patients who had undergone awake craniotomy procedures with cortical and subcortical mapping in the iMRI suite. The integration of these two modalities was assessed with respect to safety, operative times, workflow, extent of resection (EOR), and neurological outcome. RESULTS Between February 2010 and December 2011, 42 awake craniotomy procedures using iMRI were performed in 41 patients for the removal of intraaxial tumors. There were 31 left-sided and 11 right-sided tumors. In half of the cases (21 [50%] of 42), the patient was kept awake for both motor and speech mapping. The mean duration of surgery overall was 7.3 hours (range 4.0-13.9 hours). The median EOR overall was 90%, and gross-total resection (EOR ≥ 95%) was achieved in 17 cases (40.5%). After viewing the first MR images after initial resection, further resection was performed in 17 cases (40.5%); the mean EOR in these cases increased from 56% to 67% after further resection. No deficits were observed preoperatively in 33 cases (78.5%), and worsening neurological deficits were noted immediately after surgery in 11 cases (26.2%). At 1 month after surgery, however, worsened neurological function was observed in only 1 case (2.3%). CONCLUSIONS There was a learning curve with regard to patient positioning and setup times, although it did not adversely affect patient outcomes. Awake craniotomy can be safely performed in a high-field (1.5 T) iMRI suite to maximize tumor resection in eloquent brain areas with an acceptable morbidity profile at 1 month.

Abstract:Abstract Aim The aim of this randomized, prospective, and clinical multicenter study was to compare the overall clinical performance of two restorative options over a 5‐year period: individualized CAD/CAM abutments veneered with a hand‐layered ceramic, and prefabricated zirconium dioxide abutments veneered with press ceramic and inserted into a single edentulous gap in the anterior maxilla. Materials and Methods Forty subjects were recruited from two universities: 20 from the University of XX and 20 from the University of XY. Each subject received an implant to restore a single edentulous gap in the maxillary anterior region (14–24 FDI). 20 patients were randomized into each Group. Group A received a one‐piece single crown produced from a prefabricated zirconia abutment with pressed ceramic and Group B received an individualized CAD/CAM zirconia abutment with a hand‐layered technique. After 5 years, the aesthetic and radiographic parameters were assessed. Results Group A had four dropouts and one failure, resulting in a 95% survival rate and 95% success rate. Group B had two dropouts and two failures which resulted in a 90% survival rate and 90% success rate. No crestal bone level changes were observed, with a mean DIB of 0.06 mm in Group A and 0.09 mm in Group B. No statistically significant differences were present at baseline, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, or 5 years for DIB values between time points and groups. Pink aesthetic score/white aesthetic score, Peri‐Implant and Crown Index, and Implant Crown Aesthetic Index values were stable over time at all five points for both groups. Conclusion Both implant‐supported restorative options represent a valuable treatment option for the restoration of implant crowns in the anterior maxilla. Clinical Significance In general, the use of ceramic abutments in the anterior zone represents a valuable treatment procedure with both standardized and CAD/CAM individualized abutments and following the recommendations from the respective manufacturer(s).

Abstract:19F nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been used to study a fully active E. coli fluorotyrosine alkaline phosphatase. The fluorotyrosine resonances provide sensitive probes of the conformational states of the protein. They were used to follow the addition of zinc or cobalt to the apoprotein, and the titration of the protein with inorganic phosphate or the inhibitor 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzylphosphonate. The results indicate that 2 molecules of inorganic phosphate per dimer of alkaline phosphatase are required to complete a general conformational change in the protein involving perturbations to the environment of several tyrosines. Spectra of the cobalt enzyme indicate that on specific tyrosine per subunit may be near the metal site. The 19F NMR results, combined with the 31P NMR results in the accompanying paper, lead directly to the conclusion that dissociation of noncovalently bound inorganic phosphate from the enzyme is the rate-limiting process in enzyme catalysis at high pH. The local environment of the individual fluorotyrosines is also discussed.

Abstract:Two new nine-dimensional potential energy surfaces (PESs) have been generated using high-level ab initio theory for the two main isotopologues of methyl chloride, CH3 (35)Cl and CH3 (37)Cl. The respective PESs, CBS-35( HL), and CBS-37( HL), are based on explicitly correlated coupled cluster calculations with extrapolation to the complete basis set (CBS) limit, and incorporate a range of higher-level (HL) additive energy corrections to account for core-valence electron correlation, higher-order coupled cluster terms, scalar relativistic effects, and diagonal Born-Oppenheimer corrections. Variational calculations of the vibrational energy levels were performed using the computer program TROVE, whose functionality has been extended to handle molecules of the form XY 3Z. Fully converged energies were obtained by means of a complete vibrational basis set extrapolation. The CBS-35( HL) and CBS-37( HL) PESs reproduce the fundamental term values with root-mean-square errors of 0.75 and 1.00 cm(-1), respectively. An analysis of the combined effect of the HL corrections and CBS extrapolation on the vibrational wavenumbers indicates that both are needed to compute accurate theoretical results for methyl chloride. We believe that it would be extremely challenging to go beyond the accuracy currently achieved for CH3Cl without empirical refinement of the respective PESs.
Peri-implant and esthetic outcomes of cemented and screw-retained crowns using zirconia abutments in single implant-supported restorations-A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Objectives: To evaluate the peri-implant tissue changes and esthetic outcomes of cemented and screw-retained crowns of single-tooth implants in the esthetic zone using zirconia abutments. Material and methods: An electronic search was performed on nine databases. The risk-of-bias was assessed by the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized (RoB 2) and non-randomized (ROBINS-I) clinical trials. Marginal bone level change, soft tissue thickness, bleeding on probing, probing depth, survival rates of implants and crowns, complications, plaque and papilla indexes, and pink esthetic score data were extracted and analyzed. The certainty of evidence was accessed through the GRADE approach. Results: Nine records were included and 7 were used in the meta-analyses. Screw-retained crowns presented greater marginal bone level change (MD -0.04 [-0.08, -0.00] p = 0.04, I2 = 0%) compared to cemented crowns up to 1-year. At 3 and 4 years no significant differences (p > 0.05) were observed. Soft tissue thickness did not differ between groups (p > 0.05). The bleeding on probing was higher in cemented group than in screw-retained crowns at 1-year (MD 0.17 [0.08, 0.27] p = 0.0005, I2 = 0%), at medium-term periods (3 and 4 years) no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) were observed for this outcome. Probing depth, survival rates of implants and crowns, complications, and plaque index, as well as esthetic analysis using the papilla index and pink esthetic score did not differ statistically (p > 0.05) between both retention systems at short and medium-term periods. Conclusion: The connection system considering zirconia abutments presented no influence on peri-implant parameters and esthetics evaluation for medium-term periods (3 and 4 years).
Clinical performance of implant crowns with customized zirconia abutments: A prospective cohort study with a 4.5- to 8.8-year follow-up

Abstract:Objective: To assess the clinical and esthetic outcomes and patient satisfaction of screw-retained one-piece implant crowns fabricated with zirconia abutments after a 4.5- to 8.8-year follow-up. Material and methods: Thirty-two patients (12 women and 20 men), who received 40 implant single crowns in anterior and premolar sites, were included in this prospective study. All restorations were based on ceramic hand-veneered customized CAD/CAM zirconia abutments. The follow-up consisted of clinical and radiological examinations. The pink esthetic score-white esthetic score (PES-WES) was used to evaluate the esthetic outcome. Patients' satisfaction was assessed via visual analog scale (VAS). Results: Implant and prosthetic survival rates were 100% and 97.5%, respectively. Mean marginal bone loss was -0.17 mm (SD 1.16 mm). Probing depth was ≤4 mm in 98.7% and 5 mm in 1.3% of the sites; 8.3% of them were bleeding on probing positive. No technical or biological complications were observed except for one abutment fracture. The mean PES-WES scores were 7.0 and 7.1, respectively. VAS scores (10-point) of 9.41 for function and 9.26 for esthetics showed high patient satisfaction. Conclusion: After a mean observation period of 6 years and 7 months, screw-retained implant crowns based on veneered customized CAD/CAM zirconia abutments with conical connection showed very good clinical performance and may be recommended for the replacement of missing anterior and premolar teeth. Clinical Evaluation and Quantitative Occlusal Change Analysis of Posterior Implant-Supported All-Ceramic Crowns: A 3-Year Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES:To compare the survival and complication rates of posterior screw-retained monolithic lithium disilicate (LS2 )/veneered zirconia (ZrO2 ) single implant crowns (SICs), as well as analyze the occlusal changes observed during a 3-year follow-up period.MATERIALS AND METHODS:Thirty-three patients were included and randomly divided into two groups. The test group consisted of 17 patients who received monolithic-LS2 -SIC, while the control group consisted of 16 patients who received veneered-ZrO2 -SIC. Implant/prosthesis survival rates, technical complications, peri-implant soft tissue conditions, and quantitative occlusal changes of SIC (obtained by the intra-oral scanner and analyzed in reverse software Geomagic Control 2015) were assessed at 1- and 3-year follow-ups. Bone loss and Functional Implant Prosthodontic Score (FIPS) were evaluated at a 3-year follow-up.RESULTS:After a 3-year follow-up period, one patient dropped out of the follow-up. No implant loss was observed. One crown was fractured, resulting in prosthesis survival rates of 93.75% for the monolithic group and 100% for the veneered group. A technical complication rate of 25% (4/16) was observed in the veneered group (p = .333). No significant differences in the marginal bone loss were observed at the 3-year follow-up (0.00 (-0.22, 0.17) mm versus 0.00 (-0.12, 0.12) mm, p = .956). The total FIPS scores for the test group were 9.0 (9.0, 9.0), while the control group received scores of 9.0 (8.0, 10.0) (p = .953). The changes in mean occlusal clearance were 0.022 ± 0.083 mm for the test and 0.034 ± 0.077 mm for the control group (at 3 years, p = .497). The changes in occlusal contact area were 1.075 ± 2.575 mm2 for the test and 1.676 ± 2.551 mm2 for the control group (at 3 years, p = .873).CONCLUSION:After a 3-year follow-up, screw-retained monolithic LS2 and veneered ZrO2 SIC demonstrated similar survival rates. The occlusal performance of implant prostheses needs to be closely examined during follow-up, and appropriate occlusal adjustments need to be considered.

Abstract:This study evaluated the clinical performance of implant supported, extra-orally cemented, monolithic zirconia crowns after a follow-up to 18 months. Thirty-one patients with 50 posterior dental implants were consecutively selected for this study. A total of 50 crowns were cemented onto titanium abutments extra-orally and then screwed to the implants with the required torque intra-orally. The patients were followed at 12 months and 18 months after placement of restorations. During the follow-up period, all restorations were evaluated according to following technical parameters: implant failure, crown fracture, screw loosening, loss of retention due to decementation, fracture of antagonist tooth or restoration. Data were analyzed using Kaplan Meier method. One implant and its corresponding crown was lost during the follow-up period, yielding a 18 months survival rate of 98%. During the study, 2 complication events were observed, including one screw loosening and one veneering porcelain chipping in an antagonist bilayered zirconia restoration. The overall success rate of the observed prosthesis was 96%. According to the results of this study, the extra-orally cemented, monolithic zirconia crowns resulted in a favorable short-term outcome for posterior implant supported restorations within this short observation time.
31P NMR spin-lattice relaxation: Structural glass dynamics in Rb1-x(ND4)xD2PO4.

Abstract:We performed $^{31}\mathrm{P}$ NMR measurements of the temperature-dependent spin-lattice relaxation time in several mixed single crystals of ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$(${\mathrm{ND}}_{4}$${)}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{D}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [DRADP] having different ammonium concentration (x=0.22, 0.44, 0.78) as well as in three pure single crystals (${\mathrm{ND}}_{4}$)${\mathrm{D}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [DADP], (${\mathrm{NH}}_{4}$)${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [ADP], and ${\mathrm{RbH}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [RDP]. The $^{31}\mathrm{P}$ NMR spin-lattice relaxation-time measurements in mixed crystals show that the phosphorus nuclei are strongly influenced by the gradual slowing down of the motions of protons in the nearby O-D...O acid bonds in the structural spin-glass states. In addition to a common ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum observed in all ammonium-containing systems, a second ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum is observed in the temperature region of the glass transition in mixed spin-glass systems but not in pure ADP, DADP, or RDP. We attribute this lower temperature ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum to the extreme slowing down of the O-D...O intrabond motion, which is unique to the glass system. In addition, the correlation times and activation energies for the ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minima in all samples were determined. A comparison between the pure and mixed systems reveals that the mixed system ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum must be fit to a distribution of correlation functions but that each pure system requires only a single correlation function. Furthermore, measurements on systems having x=0.78 and 0.22 show that $^{31}\mathrm{P}$ NMR can be used to determine the threshold concentrations that characterize the glass phase.

Abstract:The purpose of this randomized controlled study is to investigate the clinical results obtained over four years and incidence of complications associated with one - versus two -piece custom made zirconia anchorages, in single tooth implant-supported restorations of the maxillary anterior region. Sixty-five patients, with a total of 74 missing maxillary teeth, were selected in the period from February 2007 to July 2010. Two different ways of custom made zirconia abutment and final prosthetic restoration were evaluated: a standard zirconia abutment associated with a pressed layer of lithium disilicate with an all-ceramic cemented restoration versus one-piece restoration with the facing porcelain fired and pressed straight to the custom made zirconia abutment. In 29 cases, the restoration consisted of an all-ceramic restoration for cementation (two pieces); in 45 cases the restoration was a screw-retained restoration (one piece). Three all-ceramic restorations broke during the observation time. Two one-piece restorations fractured after 26 months. At follow-up examination there were no significant differences between one-piece and two-piece groups regarding the PI, BI, and MBL. Awaiting studies with longer follow-up times, a careful conclusion is that zirconia anchorages for single-implant restorations seem to demonstrate good short-term technical and biological results.

Abstract:Objectives Clinical evaluation of chairside‐fabricated lithia‐zirconia glass–ceramic (LZGC) partial crowns (CCPCs) in a multicenter practice‐based study. Materials and Methods Seventy‐one patients were restored with 92 adhesively luted CCPCs (Cerec SW 4.2/Cerec MC XL/Celtra Duo) in three private dental clinics (C1–C3). Time‐dependent (Kaplan–Meier) survival rates (SVR) and success rates (SCR) were calculated. The following possible covariates of SVRs and SCRs were evaluated in a Cox regression model: Restoration position (premolar/molar), luting material (Variolink/Calibra), and operator (C1–C3). Results Seventy‐three CCPCs were placed in 59 patients and were included in the study (mean observational period: 58.0 ± 15 months). Four complete failures (two tooth fractures, one restoration fracture, and one endodontic failure) were recorded. All failures and interventions occurred in one of the three centers (5‐year SCR: C1 + C2: 100%; C3: 71%; 95% confidence interval: [0.55; 0.87]). Additionally, three biological, and two technical complications required clinical intervention to maintain function, and all occurred in C3. Restorations placed in C1 and C2 showed a significantly reduced risk for failure/intervention (hazard ratio = 0.103, p = 0.026) compared with restorations placed in C3. Conclusions LZGC CCPCs showed good five‐year clinical performance. However, SVRs and SCRs were significantly influenced by the operator. Additional clinical data are required for a more detailed investigation of this effect.
