Abstract:The present study aims to clarify how background factors influence consumers' intention of purchasing organic food from individual, social, and information perspectives (i.e., health consciousness, self-perceived vegetarian, as well as labeling). Another aim is to explore the moderating role of word-of-mouth (WOM) in relationship between purchase intention and purchase decision to fill in the intention-behavior gap in the field of behavior of purchasing organic food. The data were acquired through purposive sampling method by distributing questionnaires among organic food consumers. 280 out of 306 questionnaires were valid to proceed to statistical analysis. All proposed hypotheses were verified through structural equation modeling (SEM) and SPSS PROCESS regression analysis. As suggested from the study results, except for hedonistic motivation factor, the other background factors (i.e., individual, social, and information) significantly impacted consumers' purchase intention. Moreover, the relationship between purchase intention and purchase decision was significantly moderated by word-of-mouth (WOM). The present study sheds light on how to motivate consumers' purchase intention by stressing vital background factors from individual (i.e., purchase attitude and health consciousness), social (i.e., self-perceived vegetarian and environmental concern), and information perspectives (i.e., labeling and social media information). Besides, a novel insight is presented for marketers on how to deepen the relationship between consumers' purchase intention and purchase decision via the moderating effect of word-of-mouth (WOM).

Abstract:Globally, the demand for organic food rapidly rises and exceeds domestic supplies. Many are aware of the benefits of organic food, and it may guarantee a good lifestyle among the world's populations. However, in most developing countries, including Malaysia, the supply growth of organic food cannot keep up with demand growth due to the slow transition from conventional to organic farming. To date, consumers are more preferred to choose food products that are naturally grown, good for health and may not harm the environment. This study examines the level of buying behaviour towards organic food among Malay consumers. Two hundred respondents were selected in this study by using the purposive sampling technique. The data were then analysed using descriptive analysis and measured using the mean score. The results showed high mean scores for all dependent and independent variables: consumer buying behaviour, attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control. Hence, this study can be concluded that Malay consumers would also like to consume organic food, but their socio-economic background may not permit them to have it frequently. The price of organic food is also known as pricey compared to non-organic. Hence, this study is significant for all stakeholders, including the farmer, policymaker, retailer and supplier, to ensure a good and sound organic food chain in Malaysia.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study is to propose a research framework to examine the effects of consumer consciousness, food safety concern and healthy lifestyle on the attitudes toward eating “green” simultaneously in a single study. Besides, the mediating role of healthy lifestyle in forming a positive attitude toward eating “green” is also examined in this study. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based approach was applied in this study. The unit of analysis was individual consumer (aged 18 years and above) who lived in Klang Valley, Malaysia. PLS-SEM was used to test the structural relationship of the constructs in the model based on the 300 useable data collected. Findings The results indicated that health consciousness, food safety concern and healthy lifestyle have a significant effect on attitudes toward eating “green”, whereas environmental and price consciousness did not have such effect. A healthy lifestyle also mediates the relationship between health consciousness and attitude toward eating “green”. An individual’s healthy lifestyle that focused on physical health-related activities will increase the effect of consumer health consciousness on their attitudes toward eating “green”. Practical implications The outcome of this study provided deeper insights for firms to assess the feasibility of entering or expanding their operations in the green market with more enduring and effective sales and marketing strategies. Originality/value Consumers’ acceptance of or resistance toward organic food had become the centre of the research focus by the academician and the industrial practitioners over the years, despite the inconsistencies of the results obtained to predict such behavior. In this study, besides examining the direct effect of the proposed variables on the attitudes toward eating “green”, the mediating role of a healthy lifestyle in forming such attitudes was also examined.

Abstract:Before consequences of climate change continue to intensify and increasingly affect the entire planet, immediate action must be taken. For instance, adopt the pro-environmental behaviors such as purchase of organic food to minimize the harmful human-caused impacts to the environment. This paper aims to determine the factors that influence the purchase intention of organic food in Malaysia by applying the theory of planned behavior and the protection motivation theory. A total of 300 questionnaires were collected and PLS-SEM was employed to test the structural relationships. Consequences of climate change and health threats were not the primary concerns among Malaysians when deciding whether to purchase organic food. Results show that perceived vulnerability, response efficacy, self-efficacy, subjective norm, and attitude affect purchase intention towards organic food. Consumers were more likely to have positive attitude towards organic food when they have adequate information on vulnerability of a threat and its consequences. The findings provide insights on the antecedents and outcomes of purchase intention towards organic food particularly in Malaysia. Although predictive power of perceived factors such as perceived rewards and perceived efficacy have been extensively researched in the past, there are limited studies that integrate both theories that simultaneously investigate antecedents of consumers’ purchase intention towards organic food.

Abstract:In recent years, organic food intake has been seen as a crucial component of sustainable transformation that have large impacts on the environment as well as on people's health. Many customers' consumption habits have shifted toward organic items, owing to the belief that eating organic foods is safer and free of toxins. The goal of this study is to examine the marketing mix impact of product, price, place, and promotional strategies on customer purchase of organic products among Malaysia and China consumers. A questionnaire was designed, and data was collected using purposive sampling from a total of 484 respondents, whereby 150 were Malaysians and 334 were China consumers. The structural equation modelling (SEM) technique was employed to test the hypothesized relationships using AMOS software. The result of the present study revealed that only price, product, and promotional strategies significantly influenced the respondents' buying decisions towards organic products. Furthermore, nationalities moderated the relationship between product and promotion whereby the effect of these two marketing mix strategies were more pronounced among Malaysians compared to China consumers. The findings of this study contribute to the existing body of knowledge on consumer behaviour particularly towards organic food market and offers marketers, producers and practitioners' insights to develop more effective marketing strategies to stimulate customers' demand towards organic products.

Abstract:D ESPITE YEARS of debate by bioethicists about the concept of medical futility, until now no one has tried to assess the reactions of patients with serious illness to its application. One reason may be that this type of study is technically difficult to perform. Outcome variables are hard to define, consistent data difficult to gather, and interview questionnaires hard to validate. Another reason is difficulty with the definition of futility. Withholding futile treatments supports the ethical principles of both nonmaleficence (do no harm) and beneficence (relieve suffering). Some ethicists argue that invoking the principle of futility is in direct conflict with the principle of patient autonomy. During the past decade, patients and their families have become increasingly involved in end-of-life decisions, both in hospitals and in the courts. The courts have usually ruled in favor of the patient’s right to autonomy, especially in cases regarding withholding or withdrawing unwanted life support. However, there is no clear legal precedent about withholding futile care against a patient’s wishes.

Abstract:The increase of interest in organic meat throughout the world is in response to concerns about the intensive agricultural practices and their effects on consumers’ health and the environment. Several researches have demonstrated that consumers have become increasingly concerned by the health risks posed by food consumption and this is reflected in the growth of organic food market in recent years across all regions, including Malaysia. However, the organic meat sector in Malaysia is still at its “infancy stage”, whereby more supports are needed to create consumer awareness in order to enhance the acceptance and stimulate the organic meat purchase in the country. The purpose of the study was to analyze the Malaysian’s consumer behavior on their purchase intention towards organic meat from various economic and marketing aspects. The overall results of this study reveal the organic meat choice motives of consumers as well as the purchasing pattern of organic meat among consumers in Klang Valley, Malaysia. This study was carried out via a structured survey throughout Klang Valley areas involving 300 respondents. Future research should focus on a similar study with the extended scope to all states in Malaysia so that the findings could be compared and generalized to the entire population in Malaysia.

Abstract:This article aims to test whether organic food consumers’ perception of organisations’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) matters by examining the specific attributes that consumers prioritise in gauging the corporate CSR of organisations manufacturing organic food products in Malaysia. A structured Likert scale questionnaire was used to collect data from a total of 313 consumers utilising the survey method. Findings suggest that organisations should prioritise stakeholders’ interest through positive health benefits of organic food products, environmental commitment, product knowledge, trustworthy information and affordable prices rather than using CSR as a growth factor to promote quality and sustainability only. The study emphasises the role of the Malaysian government in enhancing the standards of organic food production and processing, which will motivate many companies to venture into organic farming and lead towards less reliance on imports of organic food. This will build up consumer trust and satisfaction towards organic produce. Lastly, there will be an increase in consumer trust and satisfaction towards organic produce as demand increases after the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study is suitable for organic food manufacturers who intend to improve social image, stakeholder experience and value creation, which will help brand their products. The implications of this study are generalisable not only in Malaysia but worldwide since the world is moving towards the new normal, and precautionary measures to combat health issues are prioritised.

Abstract:The rising global concerns about health and the environment have led to a substantial increase in demand for organic farm products compared to conventional ones. However, there is limited research on consumers' behavioural intentions regarding organic product consumption during pandemics such as Covid-19, especially in regions like Sarawak, Malaysia. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence consumers' intentions to purchase organic products amidst the pandemic. The study expands on the attitude component of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), incorporating environmental concern, health consciousness, trust, product quality, and affordability. A questionnaire was used to collect data from consumers of organic farm products in Sarawak, Malaysia, and the collected data was analysed using partial least squares - structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique. The findings indicate a significant positive impact of both environmental concern and affordability on purchase intention. However, health consciousness exhibited a negative influence, while product quality and trust did not significantly impact consumers' intention to purchase organic products during the pandemic. This study aims to raise consumers' awareness about the demand for organic products during the pandemic and assist the government and industry players in predicting future demand and developing strategies to strengthen the organic food industry.

Abstract:Purpose: This research work attempts to review the effect of determinants like perceived uniqueness and perceived healthiness as well as attitude amongst the consumers towards their purchase intention of organic food, which subsequently results in the actual purchase. Design/Method/Approach: Quantitative approaches and explanatory research are used in this study. This research data was collected by means of a questionnaire distributed across a sample of consumers living in Indonesia. An online survey was used and conducted in November 2022 in Indonesia to measure this research. The sample, which was collected through the online survey using Google Form, consisted of 780 participants and was representative of gender, age, and region. Actually 800 participants were contacted to participate in the survey, but only 780 participants responded to the online survey. Findings: The first objective of this study was to test the ability of the extended Value Attitude Behaviour (VAB) model to explain the consumption of organic food products by Indonesian consumers. The results show a good fit of the data. The third hypothesis was confirmed because attitudes are closely related to organic food consumption. Organic food products were considered and perceived as something unique and natural; therefore, they provided a favorable attitude among the part of the respondents. Theoretical Implications: The study contributes to existing literature on organic food products especially about variables used in this study. In addition, in this study, consumers' perception of organic food products as unique, natural, healthy and sustainable was positively related to their overall attitudes. Practical Implications: Given the high production costs and limited quantities of organic food products, marketers should present and promote (through packaging and stores) organic food products as the ones of unique quality and should emphasize their natural character. Originality/Value: This paper provides a comprehensive overview and links the literature on organic food consumption to Value Theory and the Theory of Planned Behaviour, including the role of perceived uniqueness and healthiness. The proposed integration of perceived uniqueness and healthiness in an organic food consumption model leads to interesting hypotheses and recommendations for policy makers, researchers and stakeholders involved in the organic food market. Research Limitations/Future Research: This study provides a good indication regarding consumers’ attitudes, perceived naturalness, and perceived uniqueness of organic food products. However, as only 55% of the respondents had consumed organic food products, the attitude and beliefs of 45% of the respondents were not based on actual experience, but on expectations and beliefs. We believe consumers’ attitudes and beliefs may differ after trying organic food. Abstract:Dietary choices, as the types and amounts of foods that individuals consume, are a major determinant of human health and environmental sustainability. From a marketing perspective, it becomes imperative to identify and understand the factors that motivate consumers to adopt a sustainable diet and purchase healthy food. This research is an attempt to contribute to the literature by revealing the major driving forces leading to healthy food consumption and identifying its underlying mechanism. Based on a survey of the diets and lifestyles of 307 Chinese consumers in several cities of the Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces, our empirical results indicate that consumer health consciousness is a major predictor of the intention to purchase healthy products. Such a relationship is explained by the psychological benefits associated with the consumption experience and the perceived naturalness of the product. Moreover, a high perceived nutritional value will enhance the mediation influences of the psychological benefit and the perceived naturalness on purchase intention while a low perceived nutritional value tends to negate such an impact.

Abstract:<span>The growth of the organic food market attracts more and more attention from researchers and agribusiness entrepreneurs. This paper identifies the role of personal, social, cultural and psychological factors as driving forces for the intention to purchase organic food by middle income class consumers. Data was collected from 527 respondents. A Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach was used in the analysis. The results show that social, cultural, personal and psychological factors significantly influence consumer's attitude toward organic food. Moreover, the intention of middle class consumers to purchase organic food is positively affected by attitudes. The results of this study provide an important contribution to marketing scholars and practitioners as well as policy makers, particularly to improve organic food consumption in the context of middle class consumer in emerging market.</span>

Abstract:Research findings on buying behaviour towards organic food product are still inconsistent. Therefore, this study aims to examine a significant relationship between environmental consciousness, health consciousness and social influence and young consumers’ purchase intention towards organic food product. The total of 150 questionnaires was designed and distributed at the public area of Kerteh, Terengganu. In return only 140 questionnaires were returned and usable. The result of the analysis showed that environmental consciousness is the most significant factor to influence young consumer purchase intention towards organic food product. Health consciousness and social influence on the other hand, showed a result as have no significant relationship in determined a factor that influencing young consumer purchased intention towards organic food product. In these relations, marketer and future researchers should see the important factor to explore the opportunities to cater for this market segment in future.

Abstract:Purpose This research aims to assess the consumers' intention to purchase organic foods for balanced physical and mental growth. It examines the decision-making process in buying organic products built on the extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). This study designed a model to show how Bangladeshi consumers wish to purchase organic food. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected by means of a formal questionnaire from shoppers in different markets who buy organic and non-organic foods. Statistical analysis is done by applying partial least square-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings Findings refer that among the four antecedents called social norms (SN), personal attitude (ATT), perceived behaviour control (PBC) and health consciousness (HC), three (ATT, PBC and HC) have a significant influence on the intention to consume organic food in Bangladesh. The only cognitive variable called social norm (SN) has no statistically significant impact though it positively relates to the behavioural intention to purchase organic food. Research limitations/implications The fitted model did not consider any moderating or mediating variable though there might be such effects regarding organic food purchase and consumption. The study includes a major portion of the respondents from less than Tk. 20,000 monthly income group, which is a price-sensitive group from Bangladesh perspective. Hence, this price sensitivity might have a slight influence on the results of the study. Practical implications This study includes four variables as the predictors to describe consumers' intention to purchase organic food products in Bangladesh. Among the predictors, health consciousness or awareness is found to be most powerful. Though consciousness is the key, the awareness of Bangladeshi citizen regarding organic food is lower than in other parts of the world. Hence, the research model directs the policymakers to increase awareness through different social campaigns. Social implications Under Vision 2040 of promoting sustainable development, the government of Bangladesh is trying to increase organic food consumption. Production and consumption of organic food will positively impact society since organic fertilizers are environmentally friendly and do not harm society. This research promotes a strategy formulation to ensure the consumption of organic foods for a positive social impact. Originality/value This study is a unique research to concentrate on the importance and factors influencing the consumption of organic foods in Bangladesh, a recently graduated developing country. Furthermore, it extended the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and proposed a new conceptual framework.

Abstract:This study aims to investigate whether attitude (ATT), subjective norm (SN), perceived behavioral control (PBC), brand, awareness (AWS), and trust and would influence the purchase intentions toward healthy drinks among urban consumers in Malaysia. Furthermore, the authors examine the influence of AWS and trust on consumers' ATT toward healthy drinks. This study adopted the extended model of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) of Ajzen, which included brand, AWS, and trust with ATTs, SN, and PBC to investigate consumers' purchase intention toward healthy drinks. A total of 323 usable surveys were received from consumers in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Data obtained from the survey were then analyzed using SPSS and Smart PLS. The results indicated that ATT, SN and PBC in the standard TPB model were supported. Trust as the additional determinant also proved to influence consumers' purchase intention toward healthy drinks. Trust and AWS also have a positive and significant relationship with consumers' ATT toward healthy drinks. Surprisingly, brand and AWS were found insignificant in influencing consumers' purchase intention toward healthy drinks.

Abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic seriously threatened human survival and development. It has also highlighted the significant correlation between ecological and public health. After three years of the COVID pandemic, Chinese consumers have become more aware of the importance of health. Especially in the Internet era, consumers' purchasing methods and health awareness have been changed. Consumers can buy nutritious and organic foods. To understand the impact of consumer psychology and health beliefs on the willingness to purchase organic food in the post-pandemic period, this study uses organic beef as an example and extracts key variables from three basic theories. The three basic theories include the Health Belief Model (HBM), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and the Norm Activation Model (NAM), respectively. Specifically, perceived susceptibility and severity are combined to form a health belief variable that can drive organic food purchasing. In contrast, perceived benefit, moral norms, self-efficiency, and controllability are introduced as mediating variables to construct the health driving factors of organic beef purchasing. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and mediation effect tests are used to analyse 539 samples. Meanwhile, paths and mechanisms between health concern and other variables are explored. The results show that health concern is an important driving factor. Health concern can significantly promote the formation of willingness to purchase organic beef. Mediation effect tests suggest that health concern can indirectly affect the willingness to purchase organic beef through perceived benefit, moral norms, and controllability, but the mediation effect of self-efficiency is not significant. This study provides important references for government regulation and certification of organic foods as well as for enterprises'organic food marketing strategies.

Abstract:Purpose Consumer food behavior has received considerable attention from marketers, researchers and regulators. With the rising obesity epidemic worldwide, the existing literature and previous reviews provide a limited understanding of consumers' unhealthy food choices. To address this gap, this study aims to investigate consumer psychology for food choices in terms of mental processes and behavior. Design/methodology/approach This systematic literature review analyzed 84 research papers accessed from the Web of Science database and selected high-quality marketing journals. A detailed analysis identified themes arranged in an organizing framework. Gaps, limitations, convergence and ambivalent findings were noted to derive future research directions. Findings Major themes in the literature include food marketers' actions (food stimuli and context), environmental influence (micro and macro) and consumer psychology and personal factors, leading to food choice related decisions. The antecedents and consequences of food choice healthiness are summarized. Several studies converged on the benefits of health motivations and goals, food literacy and customizing meals bottom-up on food choice healthiness. Research limitations/implications This review helps researchers gain state-of-the-art understanding on consumer psychology for food choices. It presents ambivalent and converging findings, gaps and limitations of extant research to inform researchers about issues that need to be addressed in the literature. This review presents future research questions to guide research on critical issues. This literature review contributes to marketing domain literature on consumer's food well-being and overall well-being. Practical implications This review offers actionable insights for food marketers, policymakers and nongovernmental organizations to drive consumer demand for healthier foods, focusing on food labeling, food environment, message framing and raising consumer awareness. Originality/value This review offers current understanding of consumer psychology for food choices focusing on healthiness, an aspect lacking in previous literature reviews.

Abstract:This research is focusing on the influence of greenwash on Malaysian consumers' trust towards organic food products. Malaysian consumers are becoming more aware and understand the importance of organic food products. Although Malaysia's organic market is still niche, many organic food products and organic retail/shops are available to purchase it. However, Malaysian consumers are concerned with the validity and credibility of organic food products, as many organic food products are from the local and importing country. Organic food products can relate to the greenwash that will impact consumers' trust towards organic food products. Therefore, the conceptual framework is developed by proposing four constructs - organic greenwashing, organic perceived risk, organic confusion and organic trust. The research will also focus on Malaysian consumers who have organic purchasing experience or intend to purchase organic food products. This conceptual paper will give insightful ideas for future research and give benefits to organic food retailing.

Abstract:This study aims to research healthy foods utilizing the theory of reasoned action and including factors such as social and emotional value. The idea of research study is to determine whether there is a positive relationship between social values attitude and subjective norms, emotional values toward subjective norms and attitude, attitude toward buy intention, and subjective norms toward purchase intention. This research used the quantitative approach and the program used in data processing to find findings from the data, AMOS SEM. The population consists of people in Yogyakarta and Pekanbaru, with a non-probability sampling sample and a number of samplings of 303 respondents. The method employed for collecting data entails utilizing a questionnaire that has undergone rigorous testing to establish its validity and reliability. Finding shows that all hypothesis was accepted. It means there was a positive relationship for each variable toward healthy foods. The findings indicated that all the relationships between the hypotheses were positive, which could be evaluated based on the minimum score. If the value of C was larger than R and the accompanying P-value was less than 0.05 but more significant than 1.96, the association was declared positive.
