Abstract:Photocatalytic antimicrobial technology is one of the most effective methods to treat multidrug resistance (MDR) bacteria-caused infections. Nevertheless, its practical application is hindered because of the low light utilization rate and the weak photocatalytic antimicrobial properties. In this work, a heterojunction photocatalyst consisting of an organic-conjugated polymer and a biological semiconductor is prepared to kill MDR bacteria under sunlight. The organic semiconductor poly[2,11′-thiopheneethylenethiophene-alt-2,5-(3-carboxyl)thiophene] (PThC) with carboxyl can via weak interactions such as hydrogen bonding combine with the surface hydroxyl group of TiO 2 to achieve a high stability. The PThC/TiO 2 photocatalyst possesses improved antibacterial activity because of the formation of heterostructure that achieves visible region spectrum absorption, and the reduction of the photocarrier recombination rate to produce more reactive oxygen species. The use of PThC/TiO 2 in the inactivation of Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) revealed that the antibacterial activity was greatest when the PThC/TiO 2 dose was 30% and the concentration was 0.2 mg/mL. Under LED white light irradiation, 7.31 log MRSA (100%) could be inactivated within 30 min, and the inactivation efficiency of E. coli reached 100% within 3 h. Under natural sunlight, it also has a significant antimicrobial action.

Synthesis of Novel Ternary Heterogeneous BiOCl/TiO2/sepiolite Composite with Enhanced Visible-Light-induced Photocatalytic Activity Towards Tetracycline.

Abstract:In this study, the novel ternary heterogeneous BiOCl/TiO2/sepiolite composite with enhanced visiblelight-induced photocatalytic activity was synthesized via the hydrolysis precipitation method followed by a calcination crystallization process. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-VIS diffused reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption-desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoluminescence (PL), respectively. Compared with bare BiOCl and TiO2, the ternary heterogeneous structure in BiOCl/TiO2/sepiolite significantly improved the visible-light-induced photocatalytic performance towards tetracycline (TC), and also contributed to the separation efficiency and recyclability of the photocatalyst. In addition, the influence of the mass ratio of BiOCl in the composites was also discussed, and the optimal mass ratio is identified as 50% (m(BiOCl)(m(Tio2) + m(BiOCl)). Furthermore, TC degradation by-products were further detected by HPLC-MS/MS, and a possible degradation pathway was proposed. Besides, ESR (Electron spin resonance) results indicated that the main active radical species were photo-induced holes (h(+)) and superoxide radical (center dot O-2(-)) in the TC degradation process. Hence, the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the prepared ternary composite was mainly attributed to the remarkable synergistic effect within the BiOCl/TiO2/sepiolite ternary heterogeneous system, resulting in the superior adsorption activity, the outstanding visible-light response performance and the efficient separation of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. It is speculated that the novel ternary heterogeneous BiOCl/TiO2/sepiolite composite would have a broad application prospect in the field of wastewater treatment. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:Enhancing interfacial charge transfer is a promising approach to improve the efficiency of photocatalysts. This research effectively exploited an Ag-modified Z-scheme TiO 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 heterojunction for photocatalytic degradation and disinfection under visible light. The catalyst was fabricated using simple hydrothermal and photo-deposition methods, and the characterization outcomes revealed that a built-in electric field (BIEF) was generated in the TiO 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 heterojunctions, which significantly promotes the separation of photogenerated carriers and increases light absorption efficiency. Besides, the theoretical calculation demonstrated that electron migration between TiO 2 and Ag resulted in a strong coupling on the surface, which serves as the foundation for driving photoelectric charge transfer. Furthermore, the TiO 2 /Bi 2 MoO 6 /Ag-45 displayed 459% and 512% higher degradation efficiency of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) after 100 min compared to pristine TiO 2 . Moreover, the complexes wholly inactivated gram-negative Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and significantly inhibited the growth of gram-positive Staphylococcus albus ( S. albus ) after 200 min. Additionally, we have deduced the potential degradation pathways of TC-HCl and CIP and photocatalytic mechanisms. The research results provide an idea to solve the problems of limited light absorption range and rapid carrier combination speed of traditional photocatalytic materials, which is expected to be applied in the field of actual wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Heavy metals and antibiotics are known for their difficulty of removal and enormous harmful intermediates released during degradation as well as the great threat to the health of human beings, which arouses urgent demand for highly efficient photocatalysts as solution. Thus, in this work, TiO2/BiOCl heterogeneous composite was synthesized via a facile and low-cost hydrolysis-precipitation method at room temperature without organic reagent. The characteristic results indicate anatase TiO2 nanoparticles with smaller grain size (around 15 nm) were uniformly dispersed on the surface of BiOCl nanosheets to form the heterogeneous structure. The hybrid catalyst exhibits higher photocatalytic performance for both Cr(VI) and tetracycline, and the synergistic degradation effect is demonstrated in the co-existent system. The superior photoactivity is mainly attributed to the excellent visible light capture capability and effective separation of photogenerated electron-holes pairs. Moreover, the main active radicals for Cr(VI) are photo-induced electrons (e(-)), and that for tetracycline are superoxide radical (center dot O-2(-)) and holes (h(+)). Furthermore, the effect of mass ratio of TiO2 and BiOCl on the photocatalytic performance was discussed and a speculated degradation mechanism was also proposed. In summary, this work would provide significant meaningful guidance for the development of Ti-based composites in the field of wastewater treatment.
Ce and Er Co-doped TiO2 for Rapid Bacteria- Killing Using Visible Light.

Abstract:Bacterial infection and related diseases are threatening the health of human beings. Photocatalytic disinfection as a simple and low-cost disinfection strategy is attracting more and more attention. In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were modified by co-doping of Ce and Er using the sol–gel method, which endowed TiO2 NPs with enhanced visible light photocatalytic performance but not pure ultraviolet photocatalytic properties compared the untreated TiO2. Our results disclosed that as the doping content of Er increased, the photocatalytic activity of modified TiO2 NPs initially increased and subsequently decreased. The same trend occurred for Ce doping. When the doping dose of Er and Ce is 0.5 mol% and 0.2 mol%, the 0.5Ce0.2Ti–O calcined at 800 °C presented the best antibacterial properties, with the antibacterial efficiency of 91.23% and 92.8% for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively. The existence of Er ions is thought to successfully turn the near-infrared radiation into visible region, which is easier to be absorbed by TiO2 NPs. Meanwhile, the addition of Ce ions can effectively extend spectral response range and inhibit the recombination of electrons and holes, enhancing the photocatalytic disinfection activity of co-doped TiO2.
Low‐cost 0D and 2D carbon material co‐decorated titanium dioxide ternary heterojunction for rapid and efficient bacteria killing under visible light

Abstract:Abstract Recently, the issue of bacterial resistance has gotten worse because of the overuse of antibiotics. The newborn superbacteria, such as vancomycin‐resistant bacteria, were hard to kill, inspiring researchers to find new ways to kill the bacteria efficiently. TiO 2 was used as an efficient photocatalyst for water splitting and pollutant degradation. However, the weak efficiency limited the application to solve the drug‐resistance problem. Consequently, the incorporation of low‐cost 0D carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and 2D graphene oxide (GO) was pursued to amplify the visible light absorption capabilities of TiO 2 and thereby elevate its photocatalytic activity. After forming the heterogeneous interface of CQDs and TiO 2 , CQDs converted part of visible light into wavelength less than 400 nm using the up‐conversion property. The modification of CQDs enabled electrons to be easily transferred from the conduction band of CQDs to the conduction band of TiO 2 . Meanwhile, GO can act as an electron acceptor, reduce the recombination efficiency of holes and electrons, and transfer the photogenerated electrons in the redox reaction in the heterogeneous interface. Because of the excellent absorption of GO, TiO 2 /CQDs/GO reached 57.8°C after 20 min irradiation under 1.5 times sunlight, which provided a prerequisite for photodynamic antibacterial therapy/photothermal antibacterial therapy synergistic antibacterial potential. TiO 2 /CQDs/GO possessed an antibacterial efficiency as high as 99.3% toward Staphylococcus aureus which has a bright future in disinfection in vivo and medical devices as well as water sterilization.
The Enhanced Near-Infrared Photocatalytic and Photothermal Effects of MXene-based Heterojunction for Rapid Bacteria-Killing

Abstract:Bacterial resistance threatens the health of human beings when they combat pathogenic diseases with antibiotics. Herein, an ecofriendly and antibiotics-free 0D/2D Schottky heterojunction (Ag2S/Ti3C2) was synthesized for the first time to treat bacterial infection with a high efficacy of 99.99% within 20 min under 808 nm NIR light irradiation, which was ascribed to the synergy of enhanced photocatalytic and photothermal effects. The density functional theory calculations show that when a redistribution of charge occurs at the interface between Ag2S and Ti3C2 due to the difference in their Fermi energy levels (EF), it results in an upward bend of the Ag2S energy band. Additionally, in the case of Ag2S/Ti3C2, the higher conduction band energy of Ag2S compared to the EF of Ti3C2 and the excellent electrical conductivity of the latter made the photoexcited electrons in Ag2S, including those hot electrons produced by surface plasma resonance (SPR), rapidly flow to Ti3C2, thus greatly increasing both photocatalytic and photothermal performance of Ti3C2. In vitro and in vivo tests showed that this photoresponsive system possessed not only highly effective antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus infection but also excellent biocompatibility simultaneously. Therefore, this hybrid is expected to be a promising ecofriendly platform for the rapid treatment of bacterial infections using NIR light.
Enhanced photocatalytic antibacterial performance by hierarchical TiO2/W18O49 Z-scheme heterojunction with Ti3C2Tx-MXene cocatalyst

Abstract:Construction of multiple electronic transmission channels in a photocatalytic system is in favor of boosting the charge separation to realize a high photocatalytic antibacterial property. Herein, a novel hierarchical ternary photocatalyst consisting of TiO2/W18O49 Z-scheme heterojunction and Ti3C2Tx-MXene cocatalyst was synthesized via a simple two-step solvothermal method. Dual charge transfer routes were realized in this TiO2/W18O49/Ti3C2Tx-MXene composite. The electrons on TiO2 can transfer either through the Z-scheme mode to combine with the holes of W18O49, or through the Schottky-junction to Ti3C2Tx-MXene cocatalyst. The TiO2/W18O49/Ti3C2Tx-MXene composite maintained high photooxidation-reduction capacity and possessed fast charge separation behavior. As a result, the TiO2/W18O49/Ti3C2Tx-MXene heterojunction had a high photocatalytic bactericidal rate of 93.7% for Escherichia coli (E. coil) under light (λ ≥ 365 nm, 6 h), which was 3.3, 5.5, 3.1 and 2.9 times that of MXene (28.6%), TiO2 (17.0%), W18O49 (30.0%) and TiO2/MXene (32.8%), respectively. In addition, the ternary heterojunction illustrated good biocompatibility. This work provides a simple method of constructing multiple electronic transmission channels for high bactericidal performance and proves the effectiveness of photocatalytic materials in the biological field.

Abstract:Photocatalytic antimicrobial is a promising advanced oxidation antibacterial technology that can utilize solar energy to achieve antibacterial function. However, due to the influence of diurnal variation, photocatalytic antimicrobials cannot maintain a continuous antibacterial effect in practical applications. Herein, a TiO 2 fiber with CuO particle (TiO 2 /CuO) pn -type heterojunction with dual inactivation of Escherichia coli has been designed and prepared for water treatment. The formation of pn heterojunction and its high efficiency of charge separation and transfer were confirmed through HRTEM, FESEM, UV–Vis and photoelectrochemical tests, while the charge separation process of the heterojunction under visible-light irradiation was systematically investigated. The results showed that the antimicrobial rate of TiO 2 /CuO composites was 64.7% at 10 min under dark conditions. In contrast, under light exposure, the antibacterial rate could reach 96.2% for 10 min and 100% for 20 min. This research holds promise for advancing the construction of pn heterojunctions and provides a novel insight into reducing the dependence of photocatalytic antimicrobials on light.

Abstract:The refractory and hard-to-dispose tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) poses an enormous threat to human health and the water environment. Herein, a novel Z-scheme ZnTi-LDHs/Ce 2 S 3 heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully developed for TC degradation under visible light conditions. This sophisticated material demonstrated a remarkable degradation rate of 0.0124 min −1 , marking a noteworthy advancement compared to ZnTi-LDHs, Ce 2 S 3 , and the commonly reported LDHs/LDHs-based composites, with an approximate one-order-of-magnitude improvement. The inherent synergy between Ce 2 S 3 and LDHs manifested as a Z-scheme charge transfer channel, augmenting visible-light absorption, and fostering carrier separation. Both O 2 ·- and h + played critical roles in the TC degradation process, mediating reductive and oxidative pathways, respectively. ZnTi-LDHs/Ce 2 S 3 demonstrated robust reusability and broad applicability for degrading diverse dyes and antibiotics. This work demonstrated a promising protocol for crafting efficient Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts based on LDHs and expanded our understanding and potential applications of photocatalytic degradation mechanisms for antibiotics.

Interfacial Regulation of BiOI@Bi 2 S 3 /MXene Heterostructures for Enhanced Photothermal and Photodynamic Therapy in Antibacterial Applications

Abstract:Developing environmentally friendly, broad-spectrum, and long-lasting antibacterial materials remains challenging. Our ternary BiOI@Bi 2 S 3 /MXene composites, which exhibit both photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) antibacterial properties, were synthesized through in-situ vulcanization of hollow flower-shaped BiOI on the surface of two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 MXene. The unique hollow flower-shaped BiOI structure with a high exposure of the (001) crystal plane amplifies light reflection and scattering, offering more active sites to improve light utilization. Under 808 nm irradiation, these composites achieved a photothermal conversion efficiency of 57.8%, boosting the PTT antibacterial effect. The heterojunction between Bi 2 S 3 and BiOI creates a built-in electric field at the interface, promoting hole and electron transfer. Significantly, the close-contact heterogeneous interface enhances charge transfer and suppresses electron-hole recombination, thereby boosting PDT bacteriostatic performance. EPR experiments confirmed that ∙O 2 − and •OH radicals play major roles in photocatalytic bacteriostatic reactions. The combined antibacterial action of PTT and PDT led to efficiencies of 99.7% and 99.8% against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus, respectively, under 808 nm laser irradiation. This innovative strategy and thoughtful design open new avenues for heterojunction materials in PTT and PDT sterilization. Statement of Significance : In this work, we prepared three-dimensional heterogeneous BiOI@Bi 2 S 3 /MXene nanocomposites through in-situ vulcanization of hollow flower-shaped BiOI with a high exposure of the (001) crystal plane onto the surface of two-dimensional MXene material. This preparation aims to enhance antibacterial efficiency. The resulting ternary material forms a close-contact heterogeneous interface, which improves charge transfer channels, reduces electron-hole pair recombination, and amplifies photodynamic bacteriostatic performance. These nanocomposites exhibit photothermal conversion efficiency of 57.8%, enhancing their photothermal bactericidal effects. They demonstrated antibacterial efficiencies of 99.7% against P. aeruginosa and 99.8% against S. aureus . Heterojunction materials with photothermal and photodynamic synergistic bactericidal effect are a potential environmental protection marine antifouling agent.

Polymer Photocatalysts Containing Segregated Π‐conjugation Units with Electron‐Trap Activity for Efficient Natural‐light‐driven Bacterial Inactivation

Abstract:Development of highly efficient and metal-free photocatalysts for bacterial inactivation under natural light is a major challenge in photocatalytic antibiosis. Herein, we developed an acidizing solvent-thermal approach for inserting a non-conjugated ethylenediamine segment into the conjugated planes of 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic anhydride to generate a photocatalyst containing segregated pi-conjugation units (EDA-PTCDA). Under natural light, EDA-PTCDA achieved 99.9 % inactivation of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus (60 and 45 min), which is the highest efficiency among all the natural light antibacterial reports. The difference in the surface potential and excited charge density corroborated the possibility of a built-in electron-trap effect of the non-conjugated segments of EDA-PTCDA, thus forming a highly active EDA-PTDA/bacteria interface. In addition, EDA-PTCDA exhibited negligible toxicity and damage to normal tissue cells. This catalyst provides a new opportunity for photocatalytic antibiosis under natural light conditions.
Enhanced visible light promoted antibacterial efficiency of conjugated microporous polymer nanoparticles via molecular doping

Abstract:The increase in the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is one of the main concerns of public health and holds a great demand in the development of new disinfection methods. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been considered as a promising alternative approach towards the eradication of bacteria and great attention has been dedicated to the use of non-toxic and pure organic PDT agents. Herein we report the structural design method of a series of conjugated microporous polymer nanoparticles (CMP NPs) as a new class of highly effective photoactive materials for the inactivation of bacteria in water upon visible light exposure. Through molecular doping of electron-withdrawing moieties into electron-donating polymer backbones, enhanced antibacterial properties are demonstrated upon the inactivation of Escherichia coli K-12 and Bacillus subtilis mainly by means of photogeneration of singlet oxygen as the main photogenerated active species. Additionally, the high stability, reusability and disinfection mechanism of the CMP NPs are also described.
Characterization of a genomic clone for rat seminal vesicle secretory protein IV.

Abstract:The entire coding region for rat seminal vesicle secretory protein IV was obtained on a 3.5 kb Eco RI fragment isolated from a genomic library in lambda Charon 4A. The coding sequence for SVS IV message is interrupted twice by introns. The first lies just downstream from the juncture of the 21 amino acid secretory signal peptide with the start of the mature protein, and the second lies in the 3'-nontranslated region. The major transcriptional start site was mapped by primer extention and is 22 nucleotides upstream from the translational initiation codon. S1 protection experiments indicated additional minor transcriptional starts about 27 and 50 nucleotides further upstream from the major cap site. The entire transcriptional unit comprises about 1740 nucleotides. The SVS IV gene does not belong to an obvious gene family, and it is conserved in mice and guinea pigs.

Abstract:Although TiO 2 nanomaterials have been widely used for the photocatalytic degradation of antibiotic pollutants in aqueous environments under ultraviolet (UV)-light irradiation, their photocatalytic performances are still unsatisfactory under visible light because of the large band gap. Herein, the bronze TiO 2 -MXene (TiO 2 (B)-MXene) heterostructures are successfully prepared and serve as photocatalysts to degrade the tetracycline (TC) pollutants under visible light for the first time. As a result, the heterostructure photocatalysts (20 mg) realize almost ∼ 92 % degradation efficiency of TC (20 mg L -1 , 100 mL) in 40 min under the irradiation of Xe lamp (300 W), attributing to the synergistic effect of MXene nanosheets and TiO 2 (B) nano-flowers.

Abstract:As a photocatalyst, titanium dioxide (TiO2) suffers from the wide band gap and the quick carrier recombination process, thus leading to the inefficient use of solar energy and poor catalytic performance. Herein, in this work, TiO2/Ti3C2 heterojunctions are designed to overcome these shortcomings via growing TiO2 in situ on the titanium element of Ti3C2 MXene. The TiO2/Ti3C2 heterojunctions not only broaden the range of light absorption, but also hugely extend the lifetime of photogenerated carriers. Besides, the anatase TiO2 with exposed (001) facets further enhances the catalytic properties. After optimizing the amount of TiO2/Ti3C2 heterojunctions by controlling reaction time, 20 mg catalysts can degrade 97.6% of 30 mL tetracycline solution (15 mg/L) in 90 min under visible light. Even after five cycles, the degradation ability of TiO2/Ti3C2 only changes from 97.6% to 94.3%. This paper offers another perspective on the synthesis of efficient and stable photocatalysts.

Abstract:Photocatalysis has been regarded as a promising technology for degrading organic pollutants in wastewater and producing hydrogen. In this paper, TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized to improve the visible light absorption of TiO2, which were further combined with Bi2O3 nanosheets to synthesize a series of 0D/2D TiO2 NPs/Bi2O3 nanosheet heterojunctions. The visible light induced photocatalytic activities of the as-synthesized TiO2/Bi2O3 heterojunctions were studied. The optimized catalyst TB-3 with 15 wt% of Bi2O3/TiO2 exhibited the best photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). The degradation rate constant k of TC over TB-3 was approximately eight times and 39 times greater than that of P25 and Bi2O3, respectively. Additionally, TB-3 showed the highest amount of hydrogen evolution, while that of Bi2O3 was almost zero. The enhancement of photocatalytic performances was ascribed to the improved visible light absorption and the Z-scheme charge transfer path of the TiO2/Bi2O3 heterojunctions, which enhanced the separation efficiency and reduced recombination of photogenerated charge carries, as evidenced by UV–Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), and electrochemistry measurements. The active species trapping experiments and the electron spin resonance (ESR) results revealed that ·O2− was the main active substance in the photocatalytic degradation. The possible degradation pathway and intermediate products of TC have been proposed. This work provides experimental evidence supporting the construction of Z-scheme heterojunctions to achieve excellent visible light induced photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:Developing a highly efficient visible-light-driven TiO 2 -based photocatalyst for the degradation of tetracycline remains challenging due to the high photogenerated electron/hole recombination rate and narrow visible light response range of TiO 2 . To address these problems, novel heterojunctions are fabricated by coupling TiO 2 nanosheets with Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S nanoparticles as visible-light photocatalysts. The as-synthesized photocatalysts exhibit high photogenerated electron/hole separation efficiency and enhanced visible-light absorption due to the well-matched energy levels, leading to the highly efficient degradation of tetracycline under visible light irradiation and excellent recyclability. The degradation efficiency of the optimum MCS/TiO 2 -II photocatalyst could reach 90% within 120 min, which was about 2.5 times and 6.9 times higher than those of MCS and TiO 2 , respectively. Furthermore, the degradation mechanism of tetracycline was revealed in depth based on the trapping experiments, XPS, photoelectrochemical characterizations, and DFT calculations. Therefore, this work provides an effective approach to explore excellent photocatalysts to realize the highly efficient removal of refractory tetracycline under visible light.

Abstract:Porous carbon nitride/titanium dioxide nanosheets (pCN/TNs) were synthesized by annealing the mixtures of urea, oxalic acid, and prepared titanium dioxide nanosheets, and it was then modified by carbon quantum dots (CQDs) to produce CQD-pCN/TNs. The novel CQD-pCN/TNs composites possessed excellent photocatalytic performance for the degradation of tetracycline (TC) with 86.2% under 120 min visible light irradiation, which was improved by 54%, 32.2%, and 20.7% compared to the systems with CNs, TNs, or pCN/TNs, respectively. The study on the catalytic mechanism revealed that the enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to the expanded absorption wavelength range by CQDs and the inhibited electron-hole recombination by heterojunction structure. The redshift effect could be compensated by increasing the absorption of visible light for the constructed 1% CQD-pCN/TNs. However, excessive redshift of absorption wavelength band could reduce the photocatalytic activity. The •O2-, h+, •OH, and 1O2 could be generated, and the former two played major roles, while the latter two played supporting roles in the degradation of TC. Furthermore, the CQDs could promote the production of more reactive species. TC molecule was broken down into small molecules via ring-opening reactions or/and the cleavage of the main carbon bond. The antibacterial activities of treaded solutions and eco-toxicities were detected and predicted by bacteriostatic test and ECOSAR model. This work offered a new sight for the design of excellent photo-catalysts for organic pollutants degradation.

Abstract:The abuse of tetracycline and other drugs makes the water system accumulate with antibiotics and its metabolites, which generate threat to human life. Photocatalytic degradation was regarded as a crucial technology for the removal of antibiotic drug pollutants from water efficiently under visible light. In this study, a novel Z-scheme heterojunction was developed for tetracycline degradation and the mechanism was studied through preparing efficient photocatalyst Bi12O17Br2/(001)-TiO2. Unlike the traditional Z-scheme heterojunction, (001)-TiO2 acts as an electron syringe in this nanocomposite, promoting the special charge transfer and making the separation and transfer of electron hole pairs more efficient. At the same time, the stacking of layered structure increases the specific surface area than other bismush-based materials, which benefits the adsorption of pollutants and increases reactive active site. Results show that the degradation efficiency of BT5 catalyst for tetracycline solution could attain 99.76 % of TC in 50 min. Meanwhile, the BT5 catalyst still maintained a high degradation rate of 93.50 % after four cycles. This study suggested new design ideas for novel Z-scheme in antibiotic pollutant removal.
