Abstract:In this paper, we study Grover's search algorithm focusing on continuous-time quantum walk on graphs. We propose an alternative optimization approach to Grover's algorithm on graphs that can be summarized as follows: Instead of finding specific graph topologies convenient for the related quantum walk, we fix the graph topology and vary the underlying graph Laplacians. As a result, we search for the most appropriate analytical structure on graphs endowed with fixed topologies yielding better search outcomes. We discuss strategies to investigate the optimality of Grover's algorithm and provide an example with an easy tunable graph Laplacian to investigate our ideas.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about how to optimize the application of Grover's quantum search algorithm on graphs. Specifically, the author proposes an alternative optimization method, that is, instead of looking for a specific graph topology that is favorable for related quantum walks, fix the graph topology and change the underlying graph Laplacian matrix. Through this method, researchers hope to find the most suitable analytical structure on graphs with a fixed topology, thereby improving the effectiveness of Grover's search algorithm.
The main problems mentioned in the paper include:
1. **Optimization Strategy**: Traditional optimization methods usually focus on finding specific graph topologies suitable for quantum walks. However, this paper proposes a new method, that is, fix the graph topology and optimize the search effect by adjusting the graph Laplacian matrix.
2. **Theoretical Analysis**: The author proposes a theoretical framework for analyzing the influence of different graph Laplacian matrices on Grover's search algorithm. In particular, they study the relationship between the overlap probability and eigenvalues, and provide some sufficient conditions to approximate the relationship between these eigenvalues and the square root of the graph volume.
3. **Numerical Experiments**: In order to verify the proposed theory, the author conducts numerical experiments on hyper - cubic lattice graphs. By adjusting the homogeneity/non - homogeneity parameter \( p \) of the graph, they observe the influence of different \( p \) values on the search effect. For example, when \( p = 0.91 \), the result is very similar to that of a complete graph, while when \( p \) is small, the search effect will be different.
4. **Optimal Parameters**: The author also explores how to determine the optimal parameter \( \gamma_{\text{opt}} \) so that the search success probability reaches the maximum value. They find that in some cases, \( \gamma_{\text{opt}} \approx \gamma_E \), which is similar to the situation of a complete graph.
In conclusion, this paper aims to optimize the application effect of Grover's quantum search algorithm on graphs by fixing the graph topology and adjusting the graph Laplacian matrix.
